Uh considering Karl is on the balance team and probably made a lot of the changes he’s talking about himself, he knows what he’s talking about.
You on the other hand sound like you don’t know what you are talking about.
The fact that this game still does not have the obvious solution to 4v5 in solo queue is probably one of the most absurd things I’ve seen in any game ever.
Literally, here’s how to fix it in 1 day:
When the queue pops, everyone who is not afk selects Ready Up. If someone doesn’t click the ‘ready up’ button, all those who were ready go back to the front of the queue until another person is added.
This system is in so many games from the WoW dungeon finder to LoL solo queue. It absolutely blows my mind that Arenanet is still allowing games to start with one team a member down due to an unintentional AFK.
While TCG looked very strong in the ToL, their comp was much more up to date and effective than 55 HP monks. Niah’s build brought barely anything to team fights and poor support even in smaller skirmishes. If Niah had run a stronger spirit build, or maybe if Y Iisey Y had been playing ele, I’d imagine some of the fights would have gone differently, and we would have at the very least seen a few extra rounds.
With that said, Good Fights vs TCG would be interesting. We saw GFs go virtually even with 55 HP Monks in the Good Fights Invitational (although GFs threw the third game and eventually lost)
Given that TCG has no necromancer, I’d imagine that Chaith would be a nightmare for Sizer (who doesn’t have as much burst with 2/0/0/6/6) and Helseth (bad condi clear in general) to deal with. The results would probably depend on how well Rar and Genyen could hold up against ROM/Denshee.
With the current state of the meta, it’s unclear how effective spirit Rangers will be compared with celestial d/d ele or staff ele. Technically Genyen should seem to have an advantage for team fighting against TCG with the ability to focus helseth and sizer out of the fight.
TCG was interesting in the ToL because they were the only team I saw playing to win on 3 points, not on 2. Many of the other EU teams tried to play it safe by having a warrior or ranger defend home with the other 4 members duking it out on the mid point.
this trait is a no brainer.
47.5% uptime of burning with that trait alone without any modification is to strong. even a monkey would pick that in every build that want apply dmg. any argumentation against that fact comes only from ppl missing any sense of balance.
This seems poorly thought out. With a P/P HgH build you have 100% AoE up time on an OH pistol skill. Why would someone waste 20 trait points for a trait that will generally develop zero damage out of the build at all?
Your response seems poorly thought out.
It is impossible to dodge IP, or know when it is coming. Why would you spec into HGH when you can get a 7 second unblockable/undodgeable burn from IP?
Pistol 4 is strong, not as astrong as IP.
It’s also hilarious to note how high ranked engies like Ostricheggs think that IP takes skill while Dhuumfire didn’t.
This is a bad change overall. So what will High Rankers aim for now that they will hit level cap? Even me, I’m just a Tiger ranked nobody but I’ll be boosted to Bear/Shark level after this patch. It feels like cheating.
Whatever happened to playing a game because you enjoy it? Oh I forgot you need your shiny pixels and bragging rights to make you feel special and the endless carrot on a stick or you will get paralyzed from the neck down.
What’s there to keep players after they remove this?
1 tournament a year that rewards basically the same 5 players as the previous year?
I’ll keep playing because I like the game and don’t really care whether or not I have some random pixels upon stomping an enemy… I dunno who was actually aiming to get dragon or used that as their only motivation to play… but they must be one crazy motherkittener…
Who said dragon was some people’s only motivation to play?
I asked a specific question, not one catered to you. What’s to keep players after they remove this? A less efficient way of farming pve loot?
We’re all still here because we love various features the game offers. Do you honestly not see why people would hate these changes?
The sign of a great debater is the ability to take on both sides of the issue at a moments notice. I can argue the opposite side all day long. If you truly understand this issue from both perspectives I’d love to hear you give me the strongest and most convincing counter-arguments to your claims. I’d love it if you’d indulge me.
You asked, and I quote: “What’s there to keep players after they remove this?”
My answer, in a nutshell: The gameplay.
You want to play quotes?
Q: What’s to keep players after they remove this (high rank caps)?
A: I will keep playing because I like the gameSo your answer to what will keep players interested in the game is that you like the gameplay?
You either didn’t answer the question or tried to use inductive reasoning and apply it to everyone in a general fashion. I realize that you clarified it now but initially you took my question out of context because I don’t care what any particular individual wanted but rather what would keep the most active players in the PvP community.
Seriously though, I’d love to see you provide the biggest counter argument to your own claims. Or do you really not understand the other side? I realize you’d rather not put forth the time/effort but it would be interesting to see.
It’s obvious that these changes aren’t exactly fair to high rank players. Especially the fact that chests do not roll over multiple times upon hitting 80+.
However, to say that the only thing keeping these high ranked players playing the game is Dragon Rank isn’t really true. In reality, I think these changes will have newer players playing more PvP in order to max their rank.
Arenanet is not purposefully trying to shaft older players with this change, or convince everyone to buy gemstore finishers. These changes are about making PvP more accessible and rewarding for players from every part of the game.

I’m not rooting for ANet, I’ve learned better than that. But, it’s simple logic. The fewer choices, the easier balance becomes. No more jewels+ perma 6x set bonuses, that cuts out a lot of variation, for better or for worse, in the long run, it makes balancing that much easier. And honestly, I don’t see it as that big of a deal. Like I said, jewels weren’t THAT big anyways. They should have been something like 25% of the stats rather than 14, but whateva.
Yeah LoL went esports cause they only have 3 champions so it’s super easy to balance.
Aren’t interrupt skills already rewarding enough with a kittenload of confusion stacks? Reconsider adding these runes.
The dev team did a great job getting in the decap and pw thief nerfs, now don’t ruin it by letting this rune in in its current state!
Magic Toker… isn’t that the guy who lost his own tournament by dying to Svanir against EU and losing the game by 3 points?
LMAO get good at the game and learn when to dodge correctly and not just spam it like every other theif does and NO thief does NOT need anymore evades look at shortbow 4 and pistol whip spammer.. LOL your kidding me this is NOT going too happen you have the MOST mobility out of ANY class in the game and stop comaplaining cause you play full glass and die almost instantly…
HA even if mesmer or ele go full glass they still have invulnerability ; cloudform and distortion
if thief is to keep up with invulns like this we need more evade skills on all weaponsets. the solution is clear.
Are you really trying to say that an ele has it easier than a thief?! HA!
HA!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH……………….. breathe…….. AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA……………Can I have some of what he’s having please it must be some good drugs!
Ha nice sig bunker mesmer. GG
senseless post…
“yes gogo remove evades from thief an let him die oneshot to every other dps class…”besides dodge and stealth, the evade on shortbow, sword and heal is the only thing making thief viable in pvp.
I agree, my suggestions adds evade to heartseeker so now dagger thief can be viable and not just sword thiefs
Nice to see someone with a brain who agree with my suggestions

Agreed. And what the hell with all the thief nerfs anet? Why do you hate thief so much? That time you lowered EVERY thief cooldown by 33% was just not enough. I demand you buff thief because we are hated. fml
i personaly agree, this 33% buff still isnt good enough because thieves have no surviability
Add evade to autoattack.
Even better: add evade to movement.
maybe this work with pistol auto i do not know
when I’m playing my thief, I try and to play a dif spec than pistol whip. But all the other specs are bad because they dont have enough evades. So my suggestions is this:
1. Add evade to clusterbomb while it is in air
2. Add evade to heartseeker
3. Add evade to cloak and dagger
4. Add evade to unload
in this way these specs are now viable like pistolwhip and so everyone can play them. Now all thieve builds hav a way to burst withot getting damage too much
I’d like to change my GW2 account name “Arachnid.4062” to be similar to my other account name. Is this possible? Does it cost gems?
21. Allie Murdock is awesome
9. Sometimes those balance patches dont make everyone quit.
7. Decap engi is a tactical build which requires superior positioning skills.
Currently the plan is for the next feature build to be released on June 24th.
I hate this map. We all know the reasons why it sucks. It’s completely imbalanced and the only reason why I barely ever solo queue anymore.
First of all, necromancer is apparently intended to be the best condition class in the game. The standard 30/20/0/0/20 condition necromancer has two condition transfers (Deathly Swarm and Putrid Mark) and Consume Conditions heal which removes all conditions. In any condition spec on engi, necros will generally have a natural advantage.
Second of all, many necros are still using signet of spite which applies almost every condition in the game for anywhere from 7-14 seconds. Except for burning/confusion I believe.
Here are the things you can do against a condi necro which will improve your chances of winning by a lot:
1. Dodge Deathly Swarm, which is the dagger offhand condition transfer. It’s slow and has a unique animation.
2. Note whether or not the necro is running Signet of Spite, and make sure to dodge this because if you get spited as an engineer, you will lose.
3. Predict when the necromancer is going to use Putrid Mark transfer. Generally if a necro is loaded up with condis and is wielding staff, the first thing he’s going to try and do is use Putrid Mark on you.
4. Interrupt his heal. I can’t stress this enough. Most necros run around feeling invincible to conditions because of their heal and their transfers. Its totally possible to completely wreck a necro if you interrupt Consume Conditions. Consume Conditions is another very slow (1 1/4 secs) cast time.
Perhaps a dodge or two might have been in order
I didn’t realize hotjoin teams were organized enough to have ‘secondary objective cappers’. Timez be a changin’.
This thread annoys me.
First of all, how many power necros do you see running scepter? No one good, that’s for sure.
Second, condition damage is easier to avoid than power damage. Why? Because even if you get hit with a condition nuke you can cleanse it. If you get hit with an eviscerate or backstab, you aren’t getting that health back.
I don’t really think hammer is the cause of warriors being amazing right now.
I think the real culprit is that the longbow field is a guaranteed 3 condition removal/giant burning field.
Instead of nerfing hammer, I think that making the longbow burst skill a Single target skill which will create the field on a successful hit would make this weapon a lot more balanced and make the hammer/longbow build require more skill to play.
I actually find fighting against a hammer warrior quite fun, trying to kite/dodge well telegraphed attacks is engaging, but having to stand in a pulsing damaging burning field that I can’t do anything about isn’t.
This skills is the only field that warriors have access, and you want to make necessary hit atarget to get this field?
I think this is horrible and trolling idea
Ok, take those big nerfs to hammer instead of learning how to pick a target and hit them.
Warrior isnt OP in PVE and the f1 skill on long bow is fine. Even if they decide to change it to what you suggested they can seperate the skill from the PVE version.
If it needs a fix the best way would be to add some cast time to it like killshot but not to that extreme.
It would have literally no effect on PvE… read my original post…
Warrior is OP in PvE anyway, what is more it is hard to get your attack missed or blocked in PvE, after this change it require attention when you use skill and allow counterplay, this is nice idea to balance skill without nerfing it
^This
Yay, let’s kill longbow for PvE and half of it purpose for WvW! Nice idea!
Please tell me how having longbow be single target but have the exact same effect on successful hit would hurt at all in PvE. Also, who the hell uses longbow in PvE? LOL. All this would do is make it so that a warrior couldn’t just spam it in PvP and would have to search for a target that he could hit.
And for WvW, who cares? Just because you run around in a big blob and can’t be bothered to actually find a target doesn’t mean the game should be balanced around that.
Having one of the most powerful attacks in the game on a 10 second cooldown isn’t smart.

Hi guys, Arachnid here (you probably have never heard of me, but trust me, I’m a pro).
I’m looking for 4 trustworthy compadres to join me on a journey to greatness through oceans of AoE, armies of AI minions, and overwhelming confusion.
If you want to join my elite team, here are the requirements:
-Be over rank 5, and know what a ‘node’ is. This is kind of essential, but if you don’t know what a node is I can explain in game before we start.
- Play a spirit ranger, hambow warrior, bunker guardian, condi engineer, or condi necro. If you are worried that you couldn’t play one of these builds, just don’t worry. You are much, much better than you think you are.
-Have a great attitude, but be able to take harsh, completely unnecessary criticism from teammates who might actually be worse than you are. This is a must.
-My ideal comp would be something like triple spirit ranger, triple hambow, double guardian but since tournaments are 5v5 we can’t have that. If you are an ele, mesmer, or thief, please leave this thread and never return.
-Have a sexy voice. If your voice sounds like a mosquito fart or a meth addict, it’s kind of a game breaker. I WILL make fun of you if your voice sounds funny.
-Be ready to quit at a moment’s notice should the meta change and destroy our comp (or if GW2 launches in Asia and there is an influx of skilled players).
——————————————
Once we have established our reputation as ‘top tier’ players, we can use this to sync queue our way to the top of solo queue and then shamelessly trash talk anyone in the game.
but most of your explanations were biased, offensive and insubstantial.
the best guy who intelligently answered my question was jcbroe. he was unbiased, respectful and straight to the facts. i hope more players are like him in gw2.
Actually most people on this thread were straightforward and honest.
Also, it’s funny that you call me arrogant when you admit to not actually playing tournaments (in other words, you don’t structured pvp). Why do you consider yourself qualified to comment on the efficacy of builds for tournament play if you don’t even participate?
In addition, I understand you need people like jcbroe to sugarcoat the truth so you can preserve your fragile dueling ego, but most people aren’t going to care about that when responding to your post.
Even Symbolic comes on here (who is a skilled player and probably was one of the best, if not the best rangers) and tells you straight up that ranger is easy to play and you ignore him and carry on willfully ignoring any post that actually factually points out why spirit ranger is easy to play.
Why is spirit ranger easier to play than other specs? That’s simple.
Because the majority of people can play it and do just as well or better than on other specs that they have played hundreds of games with already.
Obviously, if spirit ranger required the acquisition of skill, this would not be the case.
It isn’t rocket science.
(edited by Arachnid.4062)
a spirit ranger doesn’t have burst damage aside from the storm spirit active and now anet is nerfing it hugely.
now i understand, a skilled player is someone who rolls a handicapped build. it’s pretty easy. people will always call other players unskilled if they are using a strong build.
A skilled player can use a handicapped build or a strong build. Obviously that has nothing to do with the ‘skill’ of the player.
The fact is that spirit ranger doesn’t take skill, as much as you’d like to believe it does.
You can be highly effective with a spirits build from day one if you’ve spent any time at all playing PvP.
“Skill” is knowledge as well as reflexes acquired over time used to facilitate certain actions (example: musician, or doctor). You would never be able to play a piano concerto at your first piano lesson. But builds like spirit ranger and hambow warrior are like Guitar Hero, where you press buttons and pretend to be a rockstar when in reality the game is doing most of the work for you.
Sure, some spirit rangers are good players and make the best of the tools they bring, but comparatively there are many other specs which are viable, yet take much more skill to maximize their effectiveness.
I personally find that the problem resides not with the hammer but with the addition of the longbow burning field.
I think that making the longbow burst skill hit a single target and then create the burning field would be a much better solution. This would make warrior unable to always proc cleansing ire/have almost 100% burning uptime on the node area.
Ashamed of my fellow thieves’ behavior. Belittling someones’ English skills should warrent a suspension.
Warrant*
Did I say anything about nerfing?
I think that guardian’s support is ok, I just also think that other classes should be able to give out the same type of support, and right now the only one that comes close is spirit ranger lol
Make spvp free to play is the biggest thing they could do. Right?
No.
A good game that has a one off cost > bad game that’s free.
I agree. I think the game right now is a great deal for $40.
1. Change the way glory is awarded:
Encourage people to win by changing hotjoin gameplay to award 300 glory to the winning team and 150 to the losing team as a set amount. This will immediately prevent farming and make the game center around actually playing to win. Change tournaments to award 400 glory to winning team and 150 glory to losing team. Instead of tournaments giving chests at the end, have them give a token. 100 tokens + 40k glory can be used to purchase an ascended weapon with a unique skin. Again, this would work as a status symbol for winning tournaments and a great incentive for both PvP and PvE to participate.
2. Add unique Pvp skins:
Add unique armor sets (light, heavy, medium) to each 10th tier of rank, so every time you get to a new finisher, you also have access to 3 new armor set skins which are unlocked and you are able to use them both in PvP and PvE. This would add a huge amount of incentive for PvE players who collect sets and also another way to display the amount of PvP you have participated in.
3. Change the leaderboards:
Instead of using a percentile ranking system, change it to an ELO rating system similar to the chess competitive ranking system. This way, people could see their actual ranking compared to other people instead of just a percentile. This would be a way of showing the actual difference between a high ranked and lower ranked player. This is kind of hard to explain, but as an example, currently the top chess player in the world is ranked around 2800, little kids who have just started playing are ranked around 600. Rather than seeing a number like 10%, or 90%, people will be encouraged to just try and bump up their rating slowly. Add faster decay but smaller rating swings as well.
4. Add team/guild leaderboards:
Make it so that people in a guild can form an official team roster and have that team work its way up a group leaderboard…as a team. This would give Pvpers a reason to be in a guild. It would also give non-pvp guilds a chance to show off their top PvPers.
5. Add build templates:
This would be a great quality of life change for PvP and would promote idea sharing/theory crafting.
Even though this would take quite a bit of work from Anet’s design team, I’d love to see unlockable armor sets at every 10th rank you achieve in pvp that could be used both in PvP and PvE. Kind of like the HoM skins, where you can use them on anything once unlocked. I’d also like to see glory able to be used to purchase unique weapon skins.
Although I guess some people might disagree, I’d also like to see ascended weapons be purchasable for glory haha
I think before we say whether or not this is true, a link between PvE and PvP rewards must be added. This would bring in a lot more PvE players to PvP and even if many of them weren’t good, at least a few would excel and realize they enjoy PvP.
Guardians like StunningStyles and the Guard on [PRO] last night weren’t running the standard bunker guard build. I liked their experimentation with different classes in different roles, especially Olrun’s bunker warrior and it was refreshing to see the guardian class in a sort of damage dealing/support capacity.
Oh, it’s true that there were guardians with different builds. However it’s also true that every single team had a guardian contesting mid for the majority of each game.
Basically, I’d like to see guardians offensive capabilities buffed slightly, but lots more group support traits and utilities added to other classes. I think that would give us more variety in team composition. It becomes pretty clear that when every single team is running one class, that class has gone beyond ‘a strong option’ to kind of a necessity for high level play.
Also, although we did see different builds, I would guess that every guardian was running shouts and the ‘shouts remove one condition for you and your teammates’ trait as well.
So, recently I hear loads and loads of QQ about necro and warrior, which is somewhat deserved. But, watching MLG… every single team has a guardian. I think it has been like this for a while, but doesn’t this point to the fact that guardian is a necessity?
I like the guardian class and I don’t think it needs to be nerfed, but it seems like it would be nice if people were able to create a good team comp without one. It gets rather boring always seeing two guardians fighting at mid and basically acting as boon and condition removal bots.
You don’t know what happened, so don’t pretend that you do. That said, we’ll see what happens in the future.
Nice paradox. You tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about but somehow you know you’re right. GG!
I never said I knew what happened, nor do I pretend to now. But, I am sure, neither do you.
The difference is that I made no condescending statements about their worthlessness.Do you even English? “You don’t know what happened, so don’t pretend that you do”. That statement of yours is stating that you are sure I am wrong.. Do the math, or rather English..
No, actually, that statements means you don’t know what happened. He doesn’t say he knows either. So, please, you learn English.
As a guy who runs dire in WvW and plays tourneys I am begging you to let the OP kitten stay where it belongs.
For the love of god, if dire was in PvP the game would literally be dire engis/necros/rangers/anything else with condis running around.
It’s broken, plain and simple. No dire gear in pvp!!!
This is probably the worst testament to match making I’ve ever been a part of in this game.
How on earth does anet allow a match to start 0v5??
