Axe has essentially 100% weakness uptime. I’d call that defensive capability. It also has chill for kiting and allows you to stay at range while still dpsing somewhat after swapping.

As for your build, it’s essentially useless in any team fight, as the bleed stacks will probably never exceed 6-7 if you are vs a competent team with shout warriors/eles who know how to cleanse. This build will also never beat a half competent D/D ele who doesn’t blow their cleanses too early in a 1v1. It really only has enough damage to kill thief/mesmer.

If a team is focusing a sword/dagger, sb ranger first in team fights, they probably have no idea what they are doing anyway, or they are just assuming its a longbow ranger with no defense.

Overall it’s just another half baked condi/bunker/duelist build with too much defense and too little team support. It won’t even win 1v1s fast enough to be worth it vs good players. The only really effective thing your build brings in Entangle + Krait runes.

Sigil of Accuracy also makes no sense at all on Shortbow, and Sylvari Hound has bad healing since the regen it gives scales with its healing power, so it ticks for like 130. Krytran Drakehound would be better for skirmishes, and either owl or spider would be better for duels.

As for the video, it looks like the typical “look at these noobs with no condi clear I stomped on my condi bunker” fare.

Cele Rifle role of “Duelist, Team Fighter, *Support, Bunker, Home Node Defender”*

Cele Engi is too strong in conquest, much more so than Condi Mesmer, but that’s your response to why Scepter Auto Attack Torment should not be increased in attack speed or ‘finesse’?

Also, you don’t really get the Rifle Engi’s role. Haha. You’re pretty far off. Healing Turret =/= support role. The Cleansing Burst doesn’t scale with healing, you’re basically saying every PvP Engineer in the game is support. Bunkering. The Engineer can’t hold nodes because they lack condition removal and simply accumulate burning and won’t win the fight. You have to stand outside the red circles on Engi. Shoutbow and D/D Ele have 5 times the Condition Removal per minute. 30 v. 6, when Engineer uses the Healing Turret to knock enemies, as they should. The point holders are who you want to keep the nodes, not the roamers. It’s not a blurred line.

It’s a roaming duelist and teamfighter.. it can’t do Support, Bunkering, or keep home node capped 1v1 even half as good as dedicated roles.

More of a CC based assassin than a bunker, when ran with Slick Shoes. Cele Engi is OP, but not because it’s good at half the things you think it is.

It’s because it kicks kitten and has ridiculous CC. Puts on Sunglasses.

Engineer is great at stalling people, and it is by no means a bad node holder. It has extremely high healing per second, a pretty much uninterruptable heal, and good block uptime. It also gets more dangerous the closer proximity you are to it in general.

The fact that you think of Cele Rifle as an ‘assassin’ spec when its pretty tanky just goes to highlight how out of whack the balance on it is. Yeah, it’s a tanky build with assassin -esque damage. I agree.

I would say that along with Healing turret, the Crate can also be almost a full heal for a teammate. It’s definitely more support than what something like a Condi Mesmer or duelist Ranger would bring. Healing turret has a huge radius and removed condis. It’s like having two warrior shouts for your team in a fight, when all you actually need to take is your normal heal.

Leaving a snarky response to someone asking for a buff to a spec NEVER seen in competitive PvP is what my response intended to address. Especially the fact that an Engineer main calling Mesmer Scepter auto ‘spam’ when you guys have defended Incendiary Powder for ages. Although I do realize that all Engineer mains hate and call any condi-based build that can beat them in a 1v1 “brainless spam”.

Maybe we should give Mesmer an undodgeable auto proc that puts 5 stacks of torment on their opponent every 10 seconds instead of buffing the scepter auto.

This was quite important for me to see. There are quite a few skills in the game that just aren’t particularly fun due to various penalties and lack of rewards for landing as a part of a combo. So I’m glad to see some concerns over this from the balance team.

In particular, I really would love for the Mesmer scepter auto-attack to be revised. It is so painfully slow that even with the new torment it’s still not fun to use. The after-cast from Ether Clone is really quite crippling for chaining attacks. It kind of feels wrong that Mesmer, a class that thematically exudes such finesse, has such a clunky auto-attack chain.

I would prefer people to not spam torment with finesse, thanks.

Lol wat. A fair bit more balanced than Engineers? You mean dodge three times to get clones up and then camp in stealth and wait for them to apply condis? How can you even say torment on AA and balanced in the same sentence. It’s crap, that’s why no one uses it. But that build is far far far from being balanced.

Let me know when you see a Condi mesmer used in 5v5 conquest pvp in a high level tournament, thanks.

Burning speed, Arcing Arrow, Fire Grab, Final Thrust, I don’t see Pry Bar or Jump Shot as much better. Intelligence Sigil over doom is an investment people think is free. Pry Bar & Jump Shot with 10 might and no fury is pretty comparable to other Cele build spike attacks. 25 might vs. 10 might, fury vs. no fury is the big difference.

Engies do more power damage because they have multiple power attacks simultaneously landing. Individually I think none are noteably OP.

Denshee blasting 55hp’s Mesmer for 4.5k burning speed on stream today, etc.

Celestial Engineer attacks do more damage than they should. Pretty much everyone seems to admit this except you. Slick shoesing someone and then hitting them for 10k damage from 2 attacks (not including the condis like automatic burning and confusion stacks) is not a very complicated combo. And given all your other CC its pretty easy to force their dodges/stunbreaks. Also, unlike Ele, Engineer has much better CC to land all their power based skills, and they are also generally less telegraphed.

Comparing your power based attacks to celestial warrior and saying they aren’t much better is an absolute joke. The only CC a Celestial Warrior has access to is Pin Down (easily dodged), Sword Burst skill and Fear Me on a long cooldown. AND, their only real nuke is Arcing arrow into Sword 3 which only actually significant damage if the target is below 50%.

D/D Ele has Updraft and Earth 3 as its main CCs and all its power based nukes require melee range. So again, the comparison is pointless. D/Ds main 1v1 potential comes from outsustaining and wearing down people from the frequency of burns and overall building up enough might that everything starts to hurt.

You can see CM stack double cele Engineers and beat far more organized, skilled power based competition (just watch CM vs TCG from yesterday). Because, aside from Necro, the spec really doesn’t have a counter and it hard counters power based comps.

I’d have to agree, I’d also nerf Necro since other than Mes/Thief, Necro/Thief is perhaps the only thing that can burst a Celetank hard enough 2v1 to prevent it from stalling indefinitely and waiting for another Celetank to arrive and spam it back to full health.

Let’s face it, these poor Cele Engineers are already so squishy that having to deal with things like Mes/Thief and Necro is just unfair. Also, please nerf Fire/Air because its passive damage, but 25 might stacks is clearly active and extremely hard to stack.

I don’t play necromancer, but I’d say necromancer is much higher risk in team settings than engineer is to play. You actually have to know how to position properly and spike people rather than running around spamming ur incendiary powder on people and then going through ur shield block/elixir s/stealth/uninterruptable heal rotation whenever you get focused.

In fact, if you think that Engineer is harder to be effective on than Necromancer, I can only really laugh.

And that’s why there is one active necromancer in top tier while there are probably about 10+ engineers.

Yes, I definitely have seen TCG losing to a variety of Engi/Ele celetank ‘teams’ who run around spamming AoE on all 3 nodes and then heal to full with their waterfields and blast finishers.

We can only hope that they will be able to sufficiently outplay the Abjured with actual coordination and good use of actual conquest roles (other than the “being good at everything” role which you are so fond of). But I expect at this point to see them succumb to the highly balanced kittenstorm of AoE spam and blast finishers you will through at them.

In reality, Engineer is developing a reputation as probably one of the most poorly designed professions as the game moves along. It has a list of specs that are or have been absolutely broken in the solo queue game mode: Automated Response Bomb Nade, Decap, Skyhammer Knockback and now Turrets are all incredibly stupid and poorly designed.

“Top players” continue to defend Incendiary Powder, which constitutes Rabid Engineer’s main source of damage. A completely undodgeable random proc which can do over 4,000 damage and can be procced by any attack an Engineer does. Obvious skillful gameplay right there.

Then there is Engineer’s healing turret, the strongest heal per second in the game. Also one of the shortest cast times. Again, great design.

In addition to that, a number of other things that keep Engineer as a top profession are almost entirely passive such as protection on CC, increased health regeneration (on top of their best heal in game) while using a kit, Transmute, and last but not least, permanent swiftness just for spamming kit swaps.

Then there is crate, possibly the strongest Elite in the game, with even more passive burn and now added passive immobilize.

Overall, Engineer is a mess. It has high healing, high mobility, high AoE damage, high 1v1 potential, low counterplay and definitely fits in really well with its buddy, the Elementalist. Hence why you see teams like Abjured running 2x double classes, with their players claiming this meta is great and everything is viable and balanced! LMAO

The matchmaking will adjust for the loss of SoloQ. I mean, how many people solo join to teamQ? This will even that out so they play where the belong and more premise teams play other premades.

I like soloQ too but if this is implemented well it won’t matter.

But will it work well? Seems like a very complicated thing to acchieve.

At least duo queue can be a thing again.

In reality, what should have happened was the removal of hotjoin entirely, and the addition of an Unranked queue, leaving Solo Queue and Team Queue as they stand.

Still, I think this change might be a slight improvement with the new map selection and other changes.

Abjured vs TCG will end 1 of 2 ways, either:

1. TCG severely outrotates Abjured with Mesmer/Thief and Ostrich Eggs/Nosoc get put in downstate frequently due to their relative squishiness in team fights.

2. The extra conditions and damage that Abjured brings due to the lack of a Guardian and addition of Necro overwhelms TCG in multiple fights, resulting in a win regardless of the Mesmer/Thief rotational advantage.

While I was waiting for my chance at a precursor in the ToG stream today, I learned that Guild Wars 2 has an official best player. I’d just like to say Congrats and Well Done Backpack (Mike.4830). Even though your team got roflstomped, it must feel good knowing that you are the best player.

This thread is not about who is is most OP. It’s about the kitten-poor mechanics that engineer revolves around.

Except that only certain Engi builds revolve around toxic mechanics, same with every other profession. And having played a turret Engi, I find them incredibly easy to beat since I know what I’m doing. Not to mention, once again, cheesy AI builds are not Engineer specific.

So this topic is just one huge attack about how much you hate being pwned by Engineers because you don’t feel they deserve to be able to pwn you.

These mechanics you complain of are in no way Engi specific, which is what everyone is trying to point out. However, your rage against the Engineer as a profession has you turning a deaf ear to anyone who doesn’t sympathize with you.

But I get it, you feel the need to rage, so rage. But do so in knowing that your rants are so ridiculous that it has literally zero impact towards the balance of the game and will eventually be buried and filed away among the many other pointless qq threads, completely disregarded and never to be read again.

Every thing I listed in my original post is 100% specific to Engineer. This is not a rage thread. Its funny that I’m make a logical argument against the majority of a profession’s 1v1 pressure coming from passive unavoidable procs and AI and people are complaining about me raging.

Let’s play the “How do we know its broken game” All logical reasons aside (because I could make an obscenely large list of reasons), you can simply enter a yoloqueue and see 3+ engi’s per team, and you have your answer.

On that note, I bring to you a screenshot from one of my solo queues. We ended up winning 500-374.

Ele is the new broken tanky DPS, which has taken over warrior’s spot from last meta.

Running 2 eles is about as NOT-risky as you can get, given that they are essentially all-purpose boon-spamming sustain tanks which can 1v1, team fight, and even decap quickly.

The only good news is that unlike hambow, being a good ele takes a lot more skill than hammer chaining and spamming combustive shot.

Ele 2 in fire- u can dodge but you still get hit by the beginning or the end of the channel =5s burn every time , tbh eles have 10x more burn than cele engis, and while vs condi engi it might be similar, cele ele has way more sustain than condi engis, and can deal with condis (engis cant)

If you can’t differentiate between instant cast skills and entirely random procs, is that really my problem?

If I predict and dodge steal, it goes on full cooldown.
If I predict and dodge doom, it goes on full cooldown.
If I predict and dodge IP… Oh kittening wait, I can’t predict and dodge IP because I’ll be hit with it as soon as I’m done dodging.

And comparing Incendiary Powder to the highly telegraphed Fire attunement skills of Ele is even more ridiculous.

Ele might be just as, or more powerful than engineer, but at least it has counterplay and doesn’t rely on completely passive damage like IP, Incendiary powder, Shrapnel, etc for its damage.

Engineer is a great profession, but it dies in about ~5 seconds to a Thief/Necro, Mesmer/Thief, or Necro/Engi coordinated burst.

Oh yeah, because mesmer thief and thief necro takes AGES to kill other professions.

Why do people play engineer? Let’s see:

-Massive amounts of self healing and regeneration
-Tons of damage from a single passive proc (Incendiary powder), so people can’t outplay most of your damage since you’ll hit them with it whether they dodge or not
-Never runs out of skills to spam
-1st/2nd best skyhammer troll class
-Multiple “Oh kitten!” buttons like Elixir S, Toolkit block, on demand stealth, etc
-Strongest elite skill in the game (Crate) also provides even MORE healing and more passive burning
-If someone calls you OP, you immediately start crying about how condi necros destroy you
-If someone says your class is easy, you start shouting about how grenades are the Uberskill (soooooooo hard to land)

That’s why, in a nutshell.

Oh, and because Engineers are overpowered.

Right. The incentives patch came after, and it tripled the playerbase compared to a year before. The Dhuumfire patch itself barely did anything to the population. (If anything, it slightly increased the population by unlocking a few more easy builds.)

As I said, competitive players tend to overestimate their importance and the importance of balance to a game’s population.

Definitely agree with this ^ Also, necro got hotfixed pretty soon after dhuumfire and wasn’t THAT op after the fix

1 condi clear = out of entangle as long as you dont run back into it. gg

don’t forget shadow step, blink, phase retreat, lightning flash, dark path, judge’s intervention

Lordrosicky complains too much. :L

Let’s not forget how the Ranger jumps up into the air wildly right before the skill hits either. It’s a pretty easy dodge.

I still die faster then any other class in pvp, insta death all the time, dont even have time to press one button most of the time. Why did we get a damage boost when we need a major survability buff? In wvw we where fine and now almost op, in pve sure we needed the buff, but still survability is crap there too.

We cant hide around like theifs, atacking the disseapearing, if we could we would be fine now with theif like damage. But with the total lack of defense we are just screwed most of the time.

The problem you are having is called “being bad”. Signet of stone gives 6 second damage immunity. You also have stealth, as well as either greatsword block or evades from s/d. Not to mention your pet can have fear or immobilize to help with kiting. Learn to play.

The Adrenaline changes killed this profession. Was fighting a thief he blinked away. Lost all adrenaline, then got rekt.

ANET you just killed your own game. Whoever Okayed these changes should be fired. And your whole balance testing team should be as well.

“I missed my all my skills and they went on cooldown and I died” Sounds like what’s supposed to happen when you miss all your skills, bro
