Brilliant idea! I fully support this. NPC killing is not what WVW should be about.
Thanks for your support!
This thread will be locked in a few moments but… We wish.
Would be nice... But I think the system they’ve set up wouldn’t work like they intend.
Man that would save me some head ache though.
The game plays well with combat mode, if that system could be adopted to a game pad, it should work remarkably well, heck, I’d try it even know I’m a k/m guy.
Ps: combat mode game pad would also solve the ground targeting issue.
I think someone, probably myself if nobody else does it, will have to compile several pics of human vs sylvari in various armors to show the bugged out weirdness. Maybe that will at least get a dev response acknowledging that certain armors do not fit properly or scale down in size properly, and that they’re working on it.
Which is really all we’d need to hear to be happy.
Signed, I want to see my opponents name and I want them to see mine. It encourages rivalry and excitment to make the game much more fun.
I can’t see anything bad coming out of besides trolling which can be easily stopped with a mute/ignore.
This game needs rivalry. Lets see those names in WvWvW!!
Exactly I don’t know why everyone forgets about the block/ignore feature.
Alright, I give up. I honestly had no idea the people in this game were so terrified of being identified. Are you people really so fragile that the thought of receiving a single rude whisper before you can block someone frightens you so? Knowing that would be an absolute rarity and the person is now stranded for 7 days?
How.. Sad. Forget the suggestion, people are content to hide.
Typical rude and abrasive response when such suggestions are not going in OP’s favor. If you bothered to search, you would have seen many suggestions like this, with the OP making similar comments to you when a number of posters are against them.
It was neither rude nor abrasive, it was the simple truth. Are they not terrified of people knowing their names and possibly seeking them out to deliver a few harsh words before they’re blocked? Let me guess, your response is… No! It’s… Just their choice! They don’t want to chance being harassed!
If so then nobody should have an issue with the opt in feature. Showing your name only if you choose to. Ah but you and they most likely they wont like that either, why? Because then comes the fear of looking like a coward because you’re not revealing your name.
I don’t care if people disagree with my post, at all. As long as the reason for their disagreement is valid. Only 1 single person posed an actual response having to do with pvp, which is people avoid some while running from others based on reputation.
The rest? Citing baseless fears in incoherent sentences or “lore” and “because in real life…” Scenarios. It’s ridiculous. This is a video game. When I make a suggestion about a feature within a video game, I expect gamers to reply with the knowledge that it is indeed a game.
And again, in regards to the fears of trolling and abuse, we have already been shown that with the new time limit on switching servers, people really aren’t bothering with that kind of behavior because its inconvenient to be stuck on a server for 7 days after you’re blocked in the first minute of trolling.
I prefer not knowing the names of my opponents. If I did, I’d be liable to look to start identifying players by how effective they are and go 1:1 on the bad ones and run from the good ones. (sPvP is a better venue for those good players who want to run towards good opponents.)
…
That said, I might support a modified suggestion: make the system opt-in only. Allow every player the option of displaying their name to opponents in WvW.The 1st paragraph is the best argument I heard so far.
The last paragraph gives also a good solution. Plus it was never intended to be a one-way interaction, where you can get flammed by one (or more) opponents.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the ideas was: you get a whispered invite from an enemy, you accept or decline, then you can chat. If he’s flaming you, put him instandly on ignore and he/she/it will not bother you any longer. Simple.
Precisely. That’s the system suggested.
I would be fine with the suggestion of it being an opt-in option. If you want to pvp anonymously, you could.
I am 100% positive the most skilled PvP players would opt in and that’s really the point after all.
You, myself, and many many others crave raid content in this game but unfortunately, doesn’t seem like it’s in the mix. Most of the game is made up of casuals that don’t want raid content.

Names were available in all varieties of pvp in gw1. General chat was nothing more than a flame fest, with a few gg’s at the end of a match. Really dont need that crap in every game again. If you like that kind of stuff good for you, but most people dont.
Are you unable to read in some way, or are you just unfamiliar with how guild wars 2 works? I’ll use small words.
You can not talk to the enemy.
Nobody is asking to talk to the enemy.
I hope those were simple enough statements to understand. The only way you would be able to talk, would be to swap to the enemies server, send a whisper, and get blocked, which would leave you stuck away from friends for a week.
As proven by the change in people swapping servers to give misleading info, this will not happen due to the 7 day limit, it’s just too large an inconvenience.
I understand not reading replies to a post, but at the very least, try and read the OP before you respond, that way you don’t appear illiterate.
Since there is no death penalty worth mentioning, I think this is the one barrier they keep to add some meager level of threat and danger to exploration. As carebear as these games have gotten, I’m thankful for at least that much.
Yes please. Would love this as a sylvari.
In a game where you can not switch servers except every 7 days… How exactly would this promote trolling? Someone switches over to call someone a name and they get blocked by said person. Done. Now that person is stuck on a server away from their friends for a week, because they wanted to say 1 sentence before being blocked? I doubt many would be willing to so that.
This would be rare for the same reason that giving misleading info in WvW by swapping servers quickly died, it’s inconvenient when there is a 7 day timer on switching servers.
There is no down side unless you’re like goat and believe less information is better for no reason what so ever.
Very well done, Grats on l33t skills.
I like some of the T2 heavy, but I’m not a fan of T1 or T3. Either way, I don’t think we’ll see a change here since its all in the eye of the beholder.
Ham – No, there are not many NPC’s in WvW and no…nobody confuses them for real people, ever…yikes.
Goat – We’re talking about PvP in a video game, not warefare in real life. In this video game, there are people that stand out for one reason or another. Usually in an MMO, these people are known and its fun to fight them, or with them, etc. In that way, it would be more akin to movies than actual warfare…and the enemy knows rambo..james bond..etc.
PS: It’s fine if you disagree with the suggestion, but at least have experience with the content and/or a basic functioning rationale when responding to a post.
Hopefully more people decide to comment on this and bring attention to the issue.
Yeah, I’m surprised so few people have brought this up. I wear heavy armor as a sylvari, but I look incredible. However, there are a ton of armor pieces, particularly Shoulder pieces, that do NOT fit sylvari. They are huge, Norn size. The armor that shows this off the most is the Koda, but its not the only armor style that’s been improperly fitted to the race.
Hopefully its fixed…soonish…
Sorry but.. The plain and simple true seems to be that the OP is very bad at playing Guardian. I feel near invincible in WvW. I’ve taken people on and won 3v1. Not saying this to troll but perhaps another class, maybe one that attacks from range or doesn’t need to think so quickly, would better suit you.
Good luck

To clarify and make it more simple for Devs to implement. It would only be necessary to be friends on both ends to speak in whispers if the person is trying to speak cross server. Whispers and friend invites would continue to behave normally within the same server.
They will never allow talking because of the verbal abuse that just leads to drama they have to deal with when one side or the other decides to report the person.
However, they Do need to add names to WvW so it feels like you’re actually fighting humans. Make it mandatory to be friends on both ends to be able to whisper cross server, Add a request box for friend-adds. Everyone wins. Those that want to talk crap to each other can do so, those that don’t wont have to, but can at least see who they’re fighting.
It improves community without grief for the players or Anet.
Not sure if this has been discussed already and apologies if that’s the case. My suggestion and request is simple really.
Allow players to see the names of those we’re fighting in WvW.
Remove cross server speech if you must but it takes a lot of the thrill of pvp out when it feels like I’m killing NPCs that are no different from one another.
If cross server speech is important for friends, make it so you must approve someone for them to add you to their friends list, and make it a must that both players be friends before speech is allowed, thus eliminating abuse, etc. If enemies would like to chat friendly wise, make a request box.
Request box is simple.
1. Player A would like to send you a message, accept or decline.
2. Player B accepts message.
3. Player A has a small box to type their message and friend request.
4. Player B accepts the friends request.
This would improve the community of WvW and add that extra thrill that comes with fighting someone you know or at least you can identify as a person, all without any grief added to the system.
