It’s true. The class feels very incomplete. Very limited selection of weapons. No choice on abilities, and the legends are extremely limited as well in usefulness, which is why you see 99% of Revenant’s using the exact same set up.
For those of you defending the class, you’re not doing yourself any favors. You’re not making the game better, you’re limiting what could be, in some odd attempt to placate developers.
It’s fun. I’m having fun playing it. That doesn’t change the fact that it is too limited and down the line, it will be left behind if not improved upon. Every single Rev I see is using 1h sword, hammer, assassin, and dwarf. If they are post 50, same thing but assassin and dragon.
This is bad and they should feel bad.
I think the problem that people have with warriors is the fact that they seem unchecked by Anet.
Example: The ride the lightning nerf that was applied to Ele’s could easily be applied to GS #5 and Sword #2 in order to stop what people have been complaining about for months, yet they refuse to do so.
That said, I don’t really have an issue with warriors in WvW, ever. Win most, lose some, or they just run away and you can’t catch them, which…I don’t really care about, even if its a bit annoying.
*Hope to see:
-New weapons for professions, and or, new ability’s for current weapons.
-Extending of the actual storyline (Elder Dragons)
-The opening of new zones with an actual reason to go there.
*Expect to see:
-1 new skill added to each profession.
-Some living story involving the end of Scarlet.
-The transforming of an old zone or two in an effort to attract players back to it.
-Announcement of WvW season 2, which will feature more rewards players can achieve in under 2 hours outside of WvW.
Having played ESO in the last beta, I can say that it was a lot of fun from my point of view. Will it be successful? Who knows at this point.
GW2 devs unfortunately don’t appear to be able design content without grind/crafting/zerging. Even adding new weapons and such most likely won’t save this game in the long run.
New legendaries? Most of the player base don’t care about them, they’ll need a lot more than that to compete with wild star/ESO.
So, by the information offered in your post, you played most aspects of the game. So, Your actual question is.. Did the core design of all game aspects change to suit your needs.
No, no it did not. Obviously.
GW2 isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, most of the people I played MMOs with, won’t play it anymore.
This post made my night. 26 times!! :P
Ps: The counter to this are your directional keys.
Thief = Mesmer plaything. This is a huge L2P issue. Nero had it on the dot. Learn to use your skills, and if you can’t manage to do that, don’t run a glass build.
I agree with the OP. Would it kill Anet to put in a little effort and make a fun quest or storyline for these skills to unlock?
This just in Anet, not everything needs to be either freely given, farmed, or crafted. Pro tip for making MMOs for you.
As the title says, this elite is a meditate, as backed by our friend Jon Peters own words. So, why is it not benefiting from our meditate trait lines?
This is absolutely working as intended. The game wide rule (minus a bug or two that we are working on) is that once a skill has given you any of the benefits, canceling or interrupting that skill puts it on full cooldown. The alternative, in this case especially, is to be able to make yourself invulnerable for 2 seconds, cancel and then recast 4 seconds later which would be very broken.
Jon
Then wouldn’t it be more beneficial to players to just get the virtues at the start of Renewed Focus instead and ride out the invulnerability duration.
It might, however that is not the only consideration when creating a skill. In this particular instance the idea of refreshing virtues is powerful and we want you as a player to commit to this instead of casting and canceling right away. It is also flavorful in that you meditate for a few seconds to renew your focus not he other way around.
Jon
Funny you mention that, I was just wondering why this elite isn’t listed as a meditate, since that’s indeed what it is, and thus it should benefit from our meditate trait lines, no?
maybe they should add more stat item’s that are easily obtainable anyway to the gem store. Maybe a generic set of exotics for 800gems. That can be gotten for new alts or toon’s would be far more appropriate then the current trend of cosmetic items in this game.
Logic is not your friend. What you just described would indeed make the game P2W.
There is no content in any section of the game, that requires you to look cosmetically pleasing. Therefore, you can not pay to win via the gem store.
Please never post on the forums again.
I’m curious when things cross over into the realm of false advertisement. I’ve been playing MMO’s a long time. This is probably the most grind filled game in the lot, except of course old style mmo’s like EQ1 and FFXI, where grinding was life.
This game is decent, but it’s nothing it advertises to be. New content every 2 weeks? you mean the crap everyone is sick of and thus demanding an expansion for real content? Or the fact that 99% of new skins are via cash shop?
Nice ad.
1. Smooth combat, despite it’s other weaknesses.
2. Sylvari
3. Heart quests > quest lines
4. WvW (concept, if not execution)
5. First 20 levels of personal story
Woo! awesome. Glad this is finally being looked at, I’ve been /bug reporting it since around launch.
Tons of great ideas have been expressed, can we get an update from the devs on what they’re currently thinking now after the feedback?
The only thing worth buying in the cash shop are the stones. I buy 25 every month or two. I consider it my contribution to the game since there’s no subscription.
Is everyone that plays this game unemployed?
PS: To the guy that keeps saying the poor can’t compete, we’re talking about looks, so unless there’s a fashion contest going on, your point is moot.
If anybody thinks GW2 is anywhere near being shut down, you haven’t been in the mmo world very long. You gotta fail to an extent that your very name becomes a term of failure. Say it with me, “Warhammer online”
PS: If EQN even comes through on half of what has been shown/promised, it would be a superior game in every way to GW2. Why? Because strip away all its dynamic movement system and destructible world, and you still have a simply improved version of GW2.
Then again, “superior game” is kinda like “most beautiful person”, isn’kitten Eye of the beholder.
Too easily abused by select classes. Poorly thought out design. If a rune can change your entire class to the point shown in multiple videos, its obviously not working as intended.
I think it would be neat if sentries fired a warning flare when they spotted enemies (line of sight within a certain generous range). It would place a temporary mark on the map to show that there’d been activity there, perhaps color coded or with an approximate number of players spotted, such as 5/10/25, etc. The sentries could randomly “patrol” an area very near their sentry point to ensure they covered all the directions at intervals.
This would give sentries more value. Perhaps they could also be capable of stopping dolyaks with some efficiency, increasing the importance of keeping the routes friendly.
Other ideas for sentries
- Add the ability to upgrade sentries with an additional ranged guard, or perhaps add an additional guard if the point is held for a certain amount of time
- Sentries could lay down random traps near their location
- Have sentries provide a lasting buff to dolyaks passing near them
- The ability for sentries to call a few temporary NPC reinforcements if a larger group approaches
- Make sentries more varied; sometimes they have high health and crowd control, and other times less control and more damage
- Have sentries grant swiftness or a morale boost of some kind to friendly players passing by them. Perhaps if you fight near them, you gain a buff of some kind
Right now they don’t contribute much to making the map feel like a battle zone.
These are really great suggestions and I hope a dev takes interest in your thread.
read the December 10 patch notes, much of the thief perma stealth ability if getting nerfed through nerfing there initiative regain
Actually, as pointed out by a dev in their forum, due to the overall initiative regain being upped, the slight nerf to the trait will have little to no effect.
I think stealth is actually pretty balanced. Like others have noted, it’s only true value is shown when escaping. I have no issue predicting and killing a thief on multiple classes when stealth is used offensively.
The one thing I would alter, is that when a stealth player is hit by a melee attack, their cloaked form (the invisible man) is shown for a brief instant. The same form you see when grouped with them/pve.
This would make sense, seeing as when you connect with a melee attack, you would feel the impact/resistance on the person.
My 2 copper~
Considering its the only other blade we have.. I’d really like to see Zealous Blade affect Sword as well as GS.
Lol, Not stating that T1 only has great players, but the “regulars” in T1 tend to be better geared, and have better knowledge of their class and other classes, than the lower tiers.
This isn’t supported by any statistical data obviously, just a feeling I get from the few times we’ve gone up against lower tier servers. Example: At the moment we’re fighting Maguuma and the players I’ve come across are hilariously bad.
Edit: I’m not talking about large scale battles here. Small group and solo/duo encounters.
All. Anything can roam solo
Have you ever roamed solo as a guardian?
I was actually roaming solo as a guardian earlier. 1v1 I’d say I’m near invincible. 2v1 I’m usually fine. More than that and it gets tricky unless they’re playing glass cannon.
I seen your post earlier and meant to respond but I forgot. I’d recommend looking up some specs because you’re obviously not playing an effective build/set up.
Hell, you can use healway and take 3-4 on relatively easily but I find the build boring and use more offense.
My main is guardian, yes, roaming solo is more than viable.
Edit- PS: I play T1, so no, they’re not just terribad players lol
(edited by Araris.7839)
Actually, buying a Twilight would cost $638. So it’s somewhere between “twenty” and “thousands.” (Even Eternity, two legendaries fused together, is only $1023.5, and most weapons are substantially cheaper than that. Obviously the cost goes up if you’re buying more than one. I just thought real numbers would be useful here. /aside)
As for competing cosmetically, I’m…less than sold on the idea. I’ve seen so many terrible dye jobs, mixed pieces, and outfits/weapons that visually scream “Look at me! Look at me!” that I think a sense of taste is going to go farther than any amount of gold.
Really? Well, I stand corrected. Just based on the conversion rate I had assumed it would be quite a bit more. Either way, it’s still an absurd amount of money to spend on a small stat upgrade that’s “flashy”, unless of course… You’re in the fashion competition.
The change to sword damage from 5% to 10%. I’ve seen a lot of talk that maybe it is not really needed. The fact was this was a lackluster trait and this is a lackluster change to it. I would love to do the right thing here and have a change that MH sword wants rather than just 5% more damage.
Thoughts?
Jon
How about a basic cooldown reduction for sword skills added to the trait?
PS:
Considering our problems with mobility, It’s odd to me that torment hasn’t been added to the conditions a guardian can apply. This might be an option to look at for new conditions.as some have pointed out torment doesn’t really fit with Anet’s idea of a guardian being defenders, torment is more of an aggressive, predatory condition. I wouldn’t mind confusion being added to our conditions though, along with retaliation it would turn our enemies attacks against them and help us do damage through defense which I think might fit a bit better. EDITED FOR TYPOS
We’re Zealous psycho’s that set ourselves and others on fire, but we draw the line at tormenting people for movement..hmm.
After you’re done with alts and leveling, players focus on end game in an mmo. GW2 has no end game. Players finish leveling, and then quit. Plain and simple.
All. Anything can roam solo, What they can offer to a zerg…
Mesmer – Time/bubble
Guardian- Boon/stability/blast
Warrior- Everything
Ranger- Water field/dps
Ele- Water field/dps/seige killer
Thief- On command blast finsher
Engineer- Multiple fields
Necro- Aoe dps/lag?
bump. Just to make sure it was seen. It’s a small bug, but annoying..

His question is actually valid. There’s no way anybody with any grasp of how the game actually functions, should believe you can pay for power. For the handful of people that care to spend hundreds of dollars to buy their legendary, sure, they just bought a tiny boost for 1 weapon, grats.
(edited by Moderator)
The problem isn’t the skills themselves, or even the number available. It’s the ridiculous recasts on many of them, which in some cases like the guardian shelter, makes them completely unusable.
I’d take the female stance any day of the week. Samurai style? Yes please. Hate the male version.
I have 6 level 80’s and haven’t crafted a single item in the game (despise crafting). So it’s safe to say I love leveling in this game. Just can’t bring myself to level engineer and necro past 45, hate them.
System is much better than quest lines for sure.
The metal pieces, located on the character shoulders, on the Whispers breastplate are bugged. As indicated in the picture. They are supposed to be dyed the same color as the arm plates, with the daggers being a completely different color.
As you can see on the arms, the dye is correctly applied. Arm Band and daggers are separate colors.
On the shoulder bands, the dagger dye is being applied to both daggers and shoulder band.
Thank you~
Hi All,
I wanted to comment about the incident that happened recently in-game, surrounding some negative community interaction from a member of the ArenaNet staff.
Simply put a big mistake was made by one of our employees, for which he is both very upset and sorry. He allowed his personal feelings to affect his interactions in-game whilst representing ArenaNet, and this is absolutely unacceptable.
Like all players, we are human, and all have our opinions on the game. However these opinions should never disrupt other player’s enjoyment of the things they love. On top of this we have worked very hard to create a community that is respectful to one another, and for this behavior to have occurred while a developer is representing ArenaNet is doubly saddening.
We all cherish the opportunity to play with the community, and we absolutely rely on you all for in game feedback, and personally I hope that this incident does not hamper what has so far been an amazing relationship and opportunity for us all.
I would therefore like to sincerely apologize for this behavior on behalf of our staff member. We are taking steps to address the incident and for his part, he is very sorry for behaving in the manner in which he did.
Regarding Guild game play, please understand it is extremely important to us, and an area we are paying a great deal of attention to, so please do be patient with the developers who work tirelessly on making WvW the very best it can be, they have a great deal of respect for you all, and value your collaboration in pushing this pioneering mode forward. Also please note this member of staff is not on the WvW team.
Finally, World vs. World is a free-for-all battle. Our expectation of staff is that they should be playing, and enjoying the game like everyone else, and not being disruptive or disrespectful to others.
And in this spirit I hope we can move forward, and continue, what has up to this point, been a great community/developer relationship. One that I know our team massively values and loves.
Thank you all for your time and i hope you have a lovely weekend,
ChrisW
Thank you. That should be good enough for anyone. Even calls GvG pioneers.
Done here.
I urge you to use logic, it’s your friend.
Do you honestly believe that a company, is going to decide that a type of activity that hundreds, if not thousands of players actively play or watch, is suddenly against the rules, without telling anybody? No announcement? Just some guy on an ego trip threatening a single group?
Think. Use your mind.
Suddenly? It have technically always been against the rules (if you decide to read the rules a certain way) so it wouldn’t really be something that “just popped up”.
ArenaNet have decided to not act against it because it has not been a problem.
But due to more and more spam about it everywhere it is fully possible that it is starting to become a problem, and they are within their full right to start enforcing the rule.
Alright, you either can’t, or simply won’t think.
So I’ll do it for you. Even if they decided GvG and dueling violates the terms, there are far too many players that participate in it for them to not directly make a public statement, as they have for every important bit of info. They would tell the hundred/thousands of players that the conduct violates their terms.
This is common sense. If you don’t possess that, well.. You’ll look every bit as foolish as you do.
Done with you now,
Good day
Lordkrall, do you honesty believe that Anet is somehow unaware of GvG and dueling? There were no bans that were going to take place here because of the activity.
Get a grip.
Of course they are not unaware.
They have even stated that they will not be supported in WvW, and maybe their way of solving the spam about GvG in every single thread/stream/interview is to start threatening with bans?

This is… Really unprofessional and just disheartening honestly. Has anybody posted about this in the general forums? This really isn’t just a WvW issue, it’s an issue with Anet staff and how they think they can treat customers.
This needs to be addressed by a dev.
Are the servers with only 15-20 people in WvW also pretty empty in PvE? Maybe its time for Anet to merge some of the lower tier servers if that’s the case. It’s absurd.
There is nothing for organised groups of 15-20 people to do in this game AT ALL. The dragons are just zergs and really you just tag it then akitten a corner to wait for your loot.
They might as well ditch dragons and just give me my rare and loot for just turning up when they spawn lol
Any chance of bigger dungeons where you have to manage more people, or any chance of challenging pve content?
I quit pve ages ago. Any indication raids are coming or…?
No, there is no chance of bigger dungeons, they have stated this multiple times. The main issue comes from their no trinity system. There’s simply no way to organize the raids that people are used to.
Araris. You are wrong about sparing the 2-5 players.
Consider this. kaineng is not even down with the lowest servers. On each BL at any random time we might have 1 group of 5 people. If we gather up all three borderlands, we may have a zerg of 13-15.
That is 15 players to take and defend… sorry sparing 5 for bloodlust when they will get rolled on by 15 is a waste.
YOU may be able to spare those players… but most of the silver league will not be able to spare those numbers.
This is where I look at my cheeseburger in wonder, realizing that most third world populations survive on whatever they can find in the gutter that day.
I personally love the bloodlust, on blackgate, it seems it’s usually myself and maybe small groups of 2-3 actually doing the points and holding them. Which I believe was the intention?
Working great over here.
Your server already has the numbers to do everything else, and could afford to split up. Whereas other servers, especially lower tiered servers fighting undermanned will have to defend structures and couldn’t spend what little man power the have to cap nodes at that expense.
The problem of course, here, is if you’re on the weaker server, you’re pretty much doomed.
Gone where the days where it’s common for 10 or 15 to beat 25-30.
I get that populations may be a factor on other servers, but again, after doing more WvW for around..oh, 4 hours today, I can really say that I seen 1 group of 4-5 players. The rest were in little duo’s and mostly solo’s holding the points.
Needing the majority of players to zerg in order to capture a tower is a given, but sacrificing 2-5 players, 1 solid group, to hold points on a map that give an advantage is something any server can do if they choose to.
Bottom line is, people are complaining that this is a balance issue in favor of a server with larger numbers. How? This isn’t content for a mass of people to do, it would put a drain on manpower if a server used large groups for it. That’s simply not the case. The reality is, I see most points going white because not 1 single person cares to go and sit on it.
I personally love the bloodlust, on blackgate, it seems it’s usually myself and maybe small groups of 2-3 actually doing the points and holding them. Which I believe was the intention?
Working great over here.
It seems when people post things that are wrong I just lump them in a blob.
Wait a minute. You suggested that I am out of my depth originally, not this poster. I, of course, demonstrated that you were out of your depth, which wasn’t that difficult. But, who, exactly, are you suggesting is out of their depth?
Now that you ask, both of you.
And how am I out of my depth? Show me.
Anyway, since we don’t have a parser, and since you’re convinced you’re correct, it’s really a moot point. I agree, it’s a lot damage, but I think there are factors you’re not considering
Make a thread in the dungeon forum asking whether conjured elementalist or warrior DPS is better if you don’t believe me. If you don’t, then just concede to being wrong.
Sigh… You’re the type of person that’s so convinced they’re right, they can’t even read correctly. I never said that Ele did not do more damage than the warrior. Where as I have said multiple times, that I’m talking about the specific abilitys in question.
You need to work on your communication skills bud. While you’re incredibly invested in this, I really don’t care lol. You want to be right? Sure, go ahead, you have no parser, no proof, a lot of speculation based on burst damage, when damage per second is all that matters.
Again, because I know you miss things, I am not agreeing or disagreeing with you, I’m merely pointing out that your argument is based on an equation that doesn’t factor in all details.
And since I’m off work now and have better things to do, I bid you good night! Argue with yourself for all I care lol, at least you’ll be able to tell yourself that you’re right.
You literally just described the positioning it requires when you listed the teleport skill, which is on a 40 second recast. Weapon swapping is relevant because it contributes to the overall dps the warrior is putting out, since they’re not just waiting on HB.
After casting fiery rush, the ele could probably fall asleep and by the end of the fight they’d have out-DPS’d everyone else in the party. Of course they don’t, they keep hitting. I don’t think it’s quite sunk in to your head how much 300k damage is. That’s practically five hundred blades on a fully buffed warrior and fully debuffed boss.
180 seconds isn’t that long? You’re also talking about a very specific set up to be able to do the lightning hammer damage your listing.
How does the recast even matter when the boss dies before it expires? And no, it pretty much takes running traits with every single DPS modifier possible, Nike’s got a youtube video on the elementalist builds DnT uses.
If you’re just comparing warrior to Ele damage in general, then sure, eles might put out more, I’m merely talking about the specific abilitys to compared. Rush vs HB.
Not “might”, they do.
Like I said, you’re out of your depth. You think warriors are kings of DPS and that experienced groups still run anchor guardian and that war/guard/mes is the dungeon meta.
You never told me I was out of my depth that was some other guy. Pay attention! :P I know warriors aren’t the king of dps, I personally prefer my Mesmer.
Anyway, since we don’t have a parser, and since you’re convinced you’re correct, it’s really a moot point. I agree, it’s a lot damage, but I think there are factors you’re not considering.
@Colesy, could it possibly be because hundred blades comes back in a few seconds and can be repeated over and over, also coupled with swapping weapons during its down time to increase the overall damage from a player?
300k HP is like 20% of Lupicus’ HP. Most bosses don’t have 1.5 million HP, so warriors aren’t going to be able to repeatedly get their rotation off. You’re ignoring the fact that fiery rush has a low cooldown and can be repeated too. Lightning hammer deals about 6k/6k/10k in its auto chain too (plus a damage boost at below 33% HP so your damage will spike up about 2k more), which destroys warrior DPS again.
Not to mention that the kind of damage you’re listing from fiery rush comes from an enemy positioning.
Cast fiery rush, teleport to your current position and then you stay where you are. Positioning doesn’t matter, you still deal a ton of damage. Check out rT’s Lupicus kill, he isn’t pushed against a wall but fiery rush takes him down in to his second phase fast.
You can’t simply say one is better than the other because you’re choosing to leave out all associated facts. The fact that one has a lengthy recast, requires positioning that’s not always available, and you’re unable to swap weapons to increase your dps via any other means.
Doesn’t require positioning, weapon swappng is irrelevant and its cooldown isn’t that long.
You literally just described the positioning it requires when you listed the teleport skill, which is on a 40 second recast. Weapon swapping is relevant because it contributes to the overall dps the warrior is putting out, since they’re not just waiting on HB.
