Hmmmm only advice I can give here is to try out arora glade server or any other if you have heard of other. I do not see anything that one can do to “force” players to talk to each other unless you have a bunch of players that loves talking in which aurora glade will talk your ear off. Sometimes the nederlanders and afrikaans will have a fat conversation but mostly it is english in map/say chat.
Whisper chat makes a sound when you got a whisper – my chat bar is also always out and I make a note of watching it. This is depended of each players and ur playstyle should match what you want.
It’s not so much about forcing, its about giving an incentive to actually interact with other players, since the need to do so in basic gameplay has been diminished by the current system.
I’ve played on several servers and others have posted similar experiences from their server, it’s not a server problem, its just an unfortunate side effect of a system that was meant to bring players closer together.
Actually, there are two issues here, one is the fact that no one needs to, or does group, however the larger issue resides in the UI and Gameplay mechanics.(snip)
TLDR: The fast paced nature of the game, combined with the lack of a need to actually look at the UI leads to decreased person to person interaction.
This is the same conclusion I came to… The problem isn’t that there is no incentive to party. The problem is that it’s too difficult to play and communicate at the same time. Being in a party together doesn’t mean you’re socializing or playing as a group.
I think that more guild functionality, some sort of hot-keyable emotes/canned sentences, and voice chat would go much further toward making folks more sociable than forced/incentivized grouping.
I’d disagree, since people aren’t grouping up to even attempt to communicate as is, so they need a reason to begin with. However, I do agree that easier communication would help the situation.
An easy fix would be a solution that is already being used in EQ2, and has been for years. You join a group, you auto enter a voice channel. The vent/ts is built into the game.
Since this feature would obviously only be available in a party, it would be a great incentive to group up instead of ignoring each other.
Also to note, I don’t want the need to group to be mandatory, I’m talking about small incentives to encourage group gameplay outside of WvW/dungeons.
The bonus exp that someone mentioned that is currently being rewarded for fighting a monster with someone should simply be available only if you’re grouped with that person.
The stat option I proposed is already being used in another game….that I can’t really mention. When you enter the group, you see that you’re receiving the 2 man party bonus, say just… power and vit, add another and you get magic find, etc etc.
Anyhow if they could give some MF bonus that scales up according to the number of people in the team, or some kind of “boost” that stacks on the number of enemies killed in a combo with team mates would probably give a good incentive to team up and actually play together!
Great idea!
The very fact that you keep saying you prefer to stay on your own, pretty much makes anything you say on the topic moot. Long ago, people played these MMO’s mainly for that second M, multiplayer. Chatting while standing around waiting for jormag to pop isn’t a community, nor is it remotely the type of the communication I’m speaking about, since we all know that once it spawns, it’s back to silence, back to solo playing.
I play on blackgate, one of the most populated servers, and no, not even in the higher levels do people talk to each other. I have 3 Lvl 80’s that I’ve cleared all the Orr zones with, all without ever joining a group.
Getting bonus XP for fighting a monster alongside someone is the exact problem I’m talking about here. Those players will never say a word to each other, yet they benefited from the presence of another player. Why buy the cow if you get the milk for free?
Instead of promoting communication and community, as I’m sure was intended, the system is making those 2 things obsolete.

It is kind of sad that I am surprised when a stranger initiates conversation during the game. It is really rare.
Exactly my point. Glad someone else notices how rare this really is.
It would perhaps get less rare if someone replied, when a stranger starts a conversation. I happened to do it, to just receive “cricket sound” as an answer.
The reason nobody responds is that players are so detached from each other, they don’t even look at their chat window.
The detachment is a side effect of the core problem, you don’t need to interact with other players in any way, to progress through PvE.
However, this isn’t only a PvE problem, because it affects the community as a whole.
There is already “challenging” content in the game, it hasn’t made people communicate. Fact is, once people learn an encounter, there isn’t a whole lot of need to communicate who does what. Besides, that isn’t real communication, it’s instructions.
What I’m proposing is an incentive to group during regular PvE, events, heart quests, the “relaxed” gameplay that players would normally use in other MMOs to get to know other players.
During dungeons you are grouped, correct, but people are merely focused on the content at hand, it’s similar to a raid atmosphere in other games, you give instructions/orders, and move through the content.
In older MMOs, you got to know players while you ran quests together or sat in an exp group. Not in raids or extremely active content. It’s the same in real life, you get to know someone while you relax, not while you’re in the middle of working on a project or running a marathon.
The reason most people play these types of games is because they want to play with people. If I can to 95 percent of the game content solo besides dungeons (and the dungeons are more a pain then fun) whats the point of a group?
Indeed. I’m thinking of making a video montage of just how bad it is. Been saying hello, thanks, good fight, etc after events and such, just to see if there’s a response. I would say 1 out of 20 people actually respond.
I have gotten messages from people way later in a whisper, saying that they just seen that I had typed.
Which means this… People are so detached from other players during regular PvE, they don’t even bother reading chat. They go from one heart or event to next, without ever interacting actively with another player.
That is a bad community.
This’d be a problem with MMOs in general. I’m just happy that this game incentivizes them stopping by to help me with my stuff in the first place and gives them some silver to show for it.
And I’d really disagree with the notion that grouping will help. They don’t have to talk to each other in the group.
When people have a shared objective, they group, when they group, they talk. Unfortunately for you, you appear to be a gamer of this anti community generation. Rest assured, as someone that has played many many MMO’s, when people group, they talk, they get to know good players, they contact each other after the group because they know they play well, this is how a community is built.
The community disappeared when the need to group disappeared, it’s not a coincidence.
It is kind of sad that I am surprised when a stranger initiates conversation during the game. It is really rare.
Exactly my point. Glad someone else notices how rare this really is.
Two handed weapons do more damage. Perhaps the single sigil is seen as a way to balance the lower damage from one-handed ones?
Would need the data on that for sure. Since I believe people have stated that numbers wise, the highest dps for Guardian at least is the 1h sword. Warriors are also switching to Axe/Mace and saying they’re seeing higher damage outputs.
If the damage is relatively the same, it would make sense for 2handers to have 2 sigil slots.
/Signed.
Great idea OP. I’m actually not sure why this hasn’t been implemented, seeing as there’s no loot in the game, this would serve to provide that progression feeling at end game.
GW2 purports itself to be a game with a great community due to the everybody wins program it uses. However, what few people seem to notice, or perhaps just don’t know because they never experienced it, is that GW2 actually happens to have one of the worst PvE community’s I’ve ever seen, imo.
— There is no incentive to group with anyone when running about the world. We’ve all fought through countless battles no doubt with strangers, and yet most likely never said a word. The only chat you see between players takes place in shout or guild.
Which brings me to my suggestion:
— I’d like to see a feature implemented that gives small stat or XP bonus’s when grouping with other players. Have the feature scale so that the more people in the group, the greater the bonus. Put a radius meter on it so that they must be around each other for the effect to be active.
Edit: Additionally, there is apparently a bonus for defeating a monster alongside another player. This is exactly the kind of bonus that should be given when actually in a party with another player. You already reap the rewards of killing the enemy, give a bonus for doing so while actively teaming up with other players.
Edit: It has been stated that a main component to the problem of communication is the lack of means.
— So I am also adding the suggestion of an in-game voice communication option within a party, similar to that of EQ2. Join a party, auto-join a chat channel and begin communicating (assuming you set it to auto in options.)
Doing this will hopefully bring the community closer together. It’ll make people actually have to speak to the players they’re doing the heart quests and events with. Most developers have now come to realize and have stated that the largest factor that keeps people in a game are the people they meet while playing. This feature would serve to help facilitate that need in GW2.
Thanks~

A reason to group and speak with other players outside of shouting. GW2 says a whole lot about its community, but the reality is, nobody even really speaks to each other, since there is no longer a reason to group outside of dungeons and maybe WvW.
Kill 30 ambient creatures -> PvE
Collect 20 resources -> PvE
Underwater kills -> good luck finding someone underwater to kill
Cure X conditions -> probably something you’ll get without trying for it
Do X interrupts -> depends on your build
Res X allies -> probably something you’ll get without trying for it
Get 50 kills -> probably something you’ll get without trying for it
Kill 13 types of creatures -> PvE
…and so on
Sorry..but what you’re saying just stinks of laziness. It’s PvE to gather resources? its terribly difficult to hit that bunny as you run by..?
It must just be a coincidence that everyone here is saying they complete their daily easily and without any real effort in WvW. All except you that is.
You’re asking for special treatment in achieving gear because you’re too lazy to stop for 10 seconds and harvest a plant or kill some defenseless creature.
Ridiculous
I just don’t like being forced to cross off a laundry list of things before I can actually start defending a tower that’s being attacked by a large zerg. By the time I finish my tasks, the tower will surely have fallen.
In WvW, there are critical things that must be attended to first. It makes no sense to force the player to go like okay I need to kill 3 cats, 5 dogs, and 7 wolves before I can do anything else. Nevermind we just lost all our towers, that’s okay cuz I got my laurel!
Everything on the list of the daily in regards to WvW are things that you should be doing in WvW. Killing yaks, killing enemies, capturing towers. This isn’t a difficult concept to grasp but I’ll spell it out.
Just do what you normally do in WvW, and you’ll complete your daily.
its that simple.
WvW players don’t have any laurels at all.
By making it require laurels, you are requiring the WvW player to do extensive PvE just to get any ascended equipment.
Please reconsider.
By extensive PvE, do you mean the 20 minutes it takes to complete your daily? lol. You can complete most of your daily (and monthly) in WvW as it is, not to mention the fact thakittens getting even easier.
Extensive PvE lol…
Ah dueling..yes please..would add a lot of fun to the game.
Example of armor not fitting properly on the sylvari frame. Notice the shoulders are enormous and the hips of the armor flair outward for some reason.
Armor shown: Kodan
Edit Note: This armor is even more out of place on my character, possibly due to having a larger frame model.

The topic has received developer attention in the bug forum. If you can get screen shots of the eye bug where sylvari eyes darken to black during the day, post them please.

Noblemen, Koda, and Dredge are big examples of the armor bugs where the armor is huge in comparison to the model. The shoulders in particular.
Good to know, yeah, hopefully this thread can bring these issues to light.
Anybody want to add pics or info to this bug?
I’ve created a topic for this bug in the bug forum, please post your pics showing the issue there.
I’ve created a topic for this bug in the bug forum, please post your pics showing the issue there.
The sylvari race is currently suffering from 2 rather large bugs.
1. Many if not all sylvari eye colors are darkening to black or nearly black during the day time. Tested with multiple eye colors for the same result.
2. Not all, but many armor sets are not fitting the sylvari frame correctly. Usually resulting in a sylvari wearing norn size armor. An obvious and easy example of this would be the kodan armor. The sylvari is buried under the shoulders and gains 50 pounds at the hips.
There are 2 separate posts in the sylvari forums regarding these issues, since they are indeed bugs, I decided to post the issue here. Hopefully sylvari will come forward to post pics of themselves as examples of the issue here.
Hope it’s fixed soon or that the devs are even aware of it.
~ Thanks.
Unfortunately it’s not just pink. I reported this bug the first week after launch and its not been changed yet. My sylvari had blue bell eyes which I love but they went pitch black. I changed them to white, which still dims to barely visible but at least it’s there.
my silvari looks fine tbh…
Perhaps you were attempting to be funny. Just incase though, I’ll spell it out for you.
You’re wearing sylvari racial, it’s built for the sylvari.
Many armors that are not racial, do not fit the sylvari correctly, especially heavy armors.
Understand?
It was a good idea in concept but yeah… In reality you just have a portion of your armor that looks out of place at best, discolored at worse.
Hopefully it’s changed.
Actually, it appears as if you would have more vigor and thus more endurance, but that’s not really the case. If you were applying the build correctly, you most likely had a good stack of vigor on you, constantly.
This is a pure nerf, through and through. I Did they mean to do it..? its a massive oversight if they didn’t, however, they did make the same change to the mesmer version of the ability, so…slim..chance its an oversight..? I doubt it.
The Ah/vigor build was popular, it was known, and it was allowing traditional tanking in a game where they don’t want it like that.
Personally, I felt it was balanced, since it countered our lack of mobility and lack of Dps in comparison to our warrior counterparts. So if they were going to fix this and rethink Guardian, they should have at least offered more ways for us to spec.
Solution:
Get rid of some of our useless traits, combine others (ex. Symbols), and give us options to spec into that give more ways for us to manipulate the boons that you say are supposed to be the core mechanic of the guardian class.
Meat and such = energy
Photosynthesis = red bull
interesting…
I tried to get the quaggan for my GF as well, only to find its all acct bound. I doubt this will change though, as I guess they didn’t look kindly on people making coin off the halloween weapon skins.
Really..? people are complaining about class balance in the dumb little pvp event? you people really will cry foul about anything lol.
Jeez, just enjoy the event.
You’ll have enough to make any two you’d like if you play all five days.
So hypothetically, once he is in lions arch could we play the dungeon ever day after and have enough materials to make all of the minis?
Unfortunately not, unless accessing the dungeon via Lions Arch resets your account, which I highly doubt. Subsequent runs are only resulting in Winter Box’s, not the required materials needed to craft the mini’s.
So, at the end of the event, you’ll have to choose 2 of the 5 mini’s you want.
At least, with current info, that’s what it looks like.
I’m all for everyone having fun in the game, but the mindset of people who play MMOs these days that theyre entitled to have EVERYTHING is cancer. Its all fluff, it is time for some people to accept that something is too hard for them and move on.
This attitude is everything that’s wrong in this world.
Additionally, ANet wants to retain customers. And if a large portion of the playerbase is unhappy with something they’ll move on. I’m assuming that jumping puzzles as a concept are probably the hardest thing to accomplish in this game. And I absolutely don’t understand, why it wouldn’t be better to have varying difficulty levels for them. And I must say that I have absolutely no respect for people like you that seem to want to exclude others from having fun in a part of a video game.
I don’t care for rewards, so I would have no problem if I would get nothing for finishing it. But I must say that I also think that it’s a very stupid design decision to create a thing that doesn’t get used by most of the players because it’s too difficult for them.
I would actually say your post may be “everything that’s wrong with the world.”
It’s becoming a trend in gaming that everyone feels entitled to everything. Whether they have the skill, time, patience, etc, doesn’t matter, they want it so it should be handed to them.
If you can’t do something, then you try harder at it, if you’re not willing to try harder, walk away. Don’t demand something is brought down to your level, don’t ridicule others because they actually try to achieve something while you sit with your hand out, saying “give me, because its fair.”
The training wheels are supposed to come off at some point. Fly, or fall.
The racials are extremely underpowered, I would not advise picking a race because of them, or a race/class combo because of them. The recast timers are usually much higher than skills of the same type. Thus, you’d be better off using an engineers own turrets.
Hmm..Well, It’s a huge nerf, that’s true. No, it didn’t really help us at all in terms of vigor because if you were running the build correctly, you had vigor coming out of your ears as is.
Was the build OP..? hmm..I don’t know, maybe. I thought it was fair that I was more defensive if the warrior put out so much dps, but meh.
Anyhow, my only real issue with this is, if you’re going to directly nerf how a build works, put in some interesting alternatives. Fix the bugs, combine some of our traits (ex. symbols) and put in some alternatives.
Did this jumping puzzle on the first try, my gf and several other friends completed it within the first 5 tries. Much too easy, the mad kings clock tower was incredible, we were really looking forward to something like that
ah well, thanks for trying anet.
ArenaNet, did you learn nothing at all from the fiasco that was the Mad King’s Clocktower?
The Winter Wonderland is even worse than the Clocktower. I didn’t think it could be done, but somehow you did it. You made a jumping puzzle that is even more impossible (yes, I know that it’s impossible to be more than impossible, but this is indeed even more impossible). Those of us who have trouble with the existing jumping puzzles (whether because of the movement engine’s fiddly hitboxes, the myopic field of view and lack of depth cues, poor reflexes or disabilities, or any other reason) are completely screwed for this one; there is no hope whatsoever of getting its achievement.
I thought you were going to be inclusive to all players with your content, but apparently there is in fact some content that’s locked away from a section of the playerbase by design.
Do not repeat this performance in subsequent events.
Impossible…? I did this one on the first try, it was incredibly easy, my GF did it on her 4th try, my friend did it on his 2nd.
I’m really disappointed in it, we all had a ton of fun on the mad kings clock tower. It’s too bad..
I agree!
I want to see my enemy names and you know what I want my name to be seen also. It would bring about more excitement into the world of WvWvW. You could build up a rivalry and maybe Anet could add in a kill list or something like a rivalry page or a Battle stats page or something where you can see who kills you a lot and the same can be said for who you kill a lot.I do not see any bad coming from this because of the mute/ignore option.
Lets hope that this gets done!!!
Thanks for the support, maybe one day it could evolve into a rivalry page ^^ baby steps though, baby steps.
Sorry but RPG was for me all about having fun with friends, from the time of books RPGs to these modern MMORPGs. And that is something that every company advertise about their game, not we put some high numbers for you to count.
Objective of this forum is for people to express an idea and get feedback from the player community and the hope that a dev will read the idea and like it.
It is not for someone to continue coming back to a single thread/idea that they don’t care for and bash it because its not to their liking.
You said your part already, let it go.
1. Won’t work because of server load issues. We still have issues with large groups loading on time as it is.
2. Possibly, but probably not for a while.
3. I agree with the 2nd part about giving prize’s to 1st and 2nd place.
4. Definitely needs to happen.
Good stuff.
I don´t see nothing wrong in a tool to people maximize their DPS so they can show how his build is the best to everyone, and people will start to copy this build and forget that can be other builds that work better for different situations and well it will even bring party builds where they need a,b,c,x,y classes with their perfected builds just to do one dungeon, and will need to change to d,b,a,x,z class with other perfected builds for other dungeon…
No nothing wrong…
You are either nothing but a troll or must be the worst player to ever play this game. Everything you post is nothing but drivel that has nothing to do with factual information and everything to do with a very insecure person trying to impose their insecurity’s on other gamers.
In my thread you admitted to being fragile and terrified of people knowing who are you while you pvp. Now you’re in this thread complaining and crying because you’re scared people will see how much damage you’re putting out.
Simply put, stop assuming everyone in the game is as bad as you and is scared other people will see how inept you are in the game.
People knowing how much damage they put out makes them better players, makes them think and imagine new builds to produce better results, not the other way around.
You’re ridiculous.
Only if used sparingly for specific areas. If all normal nighttime areas were super dark I think it would get annoying and just force folks to workaround it by upping the gamma.
Right. I meant for swamps, forests. Anything that’s covered and without star light or some other source would be good.
Oh on another note, in addition to an improved combat log, I’d also like the ability to see the healing information.
Boons and DOT effects are not showing in the combat text.
For example Virtue of Justice does burning damage over 5 seconds apparently but I can’t see this.
Well it says Burning (active effect) (5s): 283 so I am assuming this means 283 damage over 5 seconds? (I’m only level 12)
It makes it hard to fully analyse how to maximise my dps. Please fix this. The idea is to prevent people from trying to “fully maximize their dps” and the like. The last thing we need is something akin to Recount where people start caring more about numbers and less about how well you play your character.
Because you can’t play your character well.. While putting out the best dps possible? Huh.. I would imagine those two would go hand in hand.
Some people are able to play well, while also utilizing their skills to bring the best their class has to the table, they merely want the information to do so.
I don’t know if you’ve done the ice fractal but man… There’s a section in there with a really dark forest. Freaking awesome stuff. I wish certain areas got dark like that during night time.
I think all racial skills should be reviewed honestly. There’s no point in a bunch of useless skills. Only a handful of races have one or two skills they use, the rest are ignored. Would be nice if they could be made into something tactical. Should also be displayed at character creation to get an idea of what each race offers.
