This is something that existed prior to ascended gear, and was something that we saw happen all the time in GW1, even without any sort of gear progression. Some players, typically people who play the game a lot, tend to only want to play with other players that play like them. They require some sort of proof to get into their party, whether it be displaying your Lightbringer Title, equipping or linking some type of gear, or using some other method of showing that you have already done and are experienced with the content. While ascended gear might be the new excuse, this behavior happens regardless.
While this is not really something that we want to encourage, players do have the choice to play the game in the way they want. We can’t force those players to be all-inclusive in who they invite to the parties they create, and to be honest, doing so would probably make people even more unhappy than they are now, and lead to a lot of undesirable behavior.
Yes, but deliberately adding a gear check to the game isn’t the same as me deciding not to party with something because I’ve decided they’re not experienced. It has to do with why and how a player is included or excluded from playing with others.
If I do it, it’s one thing. If the developer does it, that’s something else entirely.
And if players want the gear check so that they have a reason to keep going as far as they can in a specific game mode? Screw them right?
I would call it “returning the favor to the locusts”.

Positives
*New dungeon that is fun and rewarding (but there is a con as well)
*New continent
*New gear and weapon looks
*Events would have been good without the lag
Cons
*New dungeon is being used to get armor that is stronger than Exotics (which was supposed to be the top tier stats gear). This constitutes what you said you didn’t make. Gear treadmill
*The events had high latency and bugs. In Phase 1, most of the enemies were invisible and, when seen, the attacks took quite a while to go off. Phase 2 skipped the treb building on my server and the ship just suddenly appeared. Phase 3, I went through 5 overflows after disconnecting. I was one of the lucky ones to actually do the event and not be disconnected.
*Not only am I against the new gear “progression”, but, also, the new gear has also produced a new mindset in players. The gating is not very severe right now, but what about those who wish to by this great game later? Some players want “gear checks”, and this is a horrible mindset. Why should players be reduced to just numbers instead of having skill? Skill should matter more than the armor you wear.
*Did I mention the part where it seems that this patch has made many players think that you are going back on your word and implementing the gear treadmill that you promised would not be in the predecessor of the game that didn’t have such a thing? That the only gear grind was for looks and not stats.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
Agreed. Skill should be the determining factor instead of the awful term of “gear score”.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
I am going to have to agree with this as well. I have only been able to do the Dredge and the one with the robots before people leave, though.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
First it starts with special dungeon gear, then it turns into DPS meters, then view others gear. Soon after, Guild Wars 2 becomes this.
…oh…Grenth…no! T_T Don’t do that to our game! I could barely stand 2mins of that!

Please be right! This guy is worrying me! Wanting the gear treadmill, gear checks, calling it “progression”, and saying this…

Wait…so…OP goes from praising the dark side of the new content, asking for a “gear check or Gear Score” mechanic, to this? I believe there is meme about a movie called “Tropic Thunder” for this situation…
Hey man I can’t wait to fully experience the new progression content.
I just don’t want to do it with a broken class.
Still not seeing any “progression”. I just see another tier that had better be the last. Expanding your character and their skills is the progression we want. We don’t want this gear treadmill. Too many MMO’s are already like that, and GW2 is supposed to be different.
My warrior friend seems to find warrior doing much better than Necro, Ele, or Ranger. Try one of those 3 classes! I am sure you will do just fine with your Warrior.
Just for emphasis, no gear treadmills, no gear check, and someone please help the devs trying to balance this game. -_-
Another tier = more stats = more power = progression.
Ranger so easy just stick pet on target and auto attack. Warrior needs to time and combo skills to do anything worthwhile.
Another tier = more stats = more power = Another tier = more stats = more power =Another tier = more stats = more power =… and it just keeps going.
My hamster lived in a similar manner. I, and others, plan to not live like my hamster.
That is just what I heard from the rangers. I can speak from experience on the Necro.

So we are going to need some form of gear score, publicly viewable agony resistance or inspect. What is your plan to address this ANet?
Also, what kind of player number cap are you putting on these dungeons? I mean 5 players is all well and good but it doesn’t feel anything like as epic as killing a mighty dragon with say, 25 or 40 people.
Why not just call it WOW as well. Put in your changes and people like you can stand yelling “LFG. Come to Lion Arch for inspection” and “LFG, Gear Score 2000 required”
When will you people realise that the vast majority don’t want that type of crap anymore and we found it here. Until now!
Thanks for reading, and thankyou arenanet for finally listening to the community ^^
They did the opposite.
Majority of people don’t want this kind of content?
How many people play WoW?
How many people play guild wars?
People standing in the middle of LA asking for inspection is just a natural part of any progression based game, no sense in fighting it.
How many people play WoW? The ones that like the grind and gates.
How many people play Guild Wars? The ones that don’t like the grind and gates.
I have never seen people in the middle of LA asking for inspection. It is not progress. How is it progress?
Advancing in skill should be progress!

But all MMO need progression. New tier will give that progression.
Yer there has never been a successful MMO released without progression content, we need new tiers but patience, we need for the majority of people to have at least experienced ascended first.

daoc.
Realm ranks were linear progression.
What happened to DAoC when they put in the gear treadmill called artifacts? Thats right! The game died.
The game is still alive and well I don’t know what you are talking about.
But stay on topic please everyone
We want to brainstorm ideas on how to even further improve the excellent direction this game is taking.
Yes because of the 5000 people that play it today really compares to the 300,000 that played it in its prime, also known as the time before ToA. This so called idea might be excellent to you, but to me its pure crap. This idea needs to be flushed down the toilet along with the moron who came up with it.
Maybe not as harshly, but I agree that this is not the direction the game should be headed. Gating people from the things you create is not what you want to do.
I am fine with it getting harder to do the more you do it, just so you can test your skills and get better drop chances. I am not fine with putting a required stat on it.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
and after that we can add the pandas!
it’s brilliant.
I actually would like some more animalistic races that are cute. I mean we have charr and asura which kind of resemble dogs and monkeys respectively, but what about cute cat people and such?
Charr look more like dogs than cats??? Have you even LOOKED at the female Charrs? They’re definitely the ‘cat people’ of Guild Wars. They’re just not scrawny like Khajiits.
That being said, I’d love more animalistic races too…well, any type of additional race would please me so long as it wasn’t too similar to any existing race (or a Panda). GW2 has all other fantasy MMORPGs beat in the race department as far as I’m concerned. Sure, some people think Slyvari and Asura are the respective equivalent of Elves and Gnomes because of their cultures, but at least Anet DID make an effort to do something different.
Personally, I’d love to see Centaurs be added to the playable races. Although if they allowed customization of the horse part of the body as well, I’m guessing some people would attempt to make it like My Little Pony.
Please no pink or purple color options, Anet. XD
No! Bronys as far as the eye can see! O-o
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
Well, isn’t infusion is part of the story too in GW2? So, what’s the different?
No, this infusion is for a dungeon. (As far as we know anyways) It was extremely easy to get in GW1 and it was only for one part of the story.

The agony system is really going to require a level of resistance which its mandatory for group leaders to know what kind of gear their members have in order to form successful groups or raids.
So we are going to need some form of gear score, publicly viewable agony resistance or inspect. What is your plan to address this ANet?
Feel free to give input as well people.
Gear score is what I would like to avoid.
I don’t like telling people that they can’t join me or that I can’t join others because they/I don’t have a certain type of gear, or some other requirement, so we can just try and enjoy the content of the game. I am pretty sure you wouldn’t like that either.
No gearscore, ever s’il vous plait, and let this be the last tier.
Well, I would like to enjoy the content with everyone as well. But if there is someone without agony resistance then I will need to filter them out so I can enjoy the content.
It’s a downside really but it is a necessary evil in order to enjoy this wonderful content ANet has made for us.
There we go: “What? U dont have FOTM equip? Go away Noob!”
Yeah, I know that I for one, don’t like doing this to people. I also have 2 lower level friends who just started playing. They will be “side kicked” up to 80 for this weekend, but after that I am not going to tell them that they can’t join me because they don’t have fully slotted Ascended gear.
We would all like to do the dungeons for a challenge, but this Agony is just gating people from enjoying content. There shouldn’t be this “necessary evil”.
“How are you to know capabilities of everyone without GS/inspect or something else?” <- This a horrible mindset. Gear shouldn’t determine capability.

haha. No, I was actually serious.
I have a necro, and love it, and feel OP when I can kill two vets and various lesser mobs solo. I love necro. There are issues sure but it is very much viable and one of the strongest ‘take down everything in sight’ classes there is, IMHO of course.
Yes thief, warrior, etc can kill 1 or 2 things before I can, but I can kill 5-6+ at the same time before any other class.
Lol, yeah. I know what you mean. I have 2 lvl80 Necros (hated Sylvari, so I just started Human). I just can’t help but to love the class like my GW1 Necro. When they balance things, I can see us as being very good classes to have.

Even if they don’t introduce more progression this is a kick in the nuts. Most players have been spending their time & gold on gearing up characters with exotics. I have 3 lvl 80s with full exotics. If I had known they were going to pull this, I would have never spent my time & gold on it.
The promise was that max gear would stay max gear, just like in GW1. Feel a bit betrayed. Especially because of the timing. Three months after launch is a terrible time to introduce a new tier of gear. “surprise, butt secks” pretty much sums it up.
It’s ok. They are going to throw confetti and yell “Surprise!”.
Back to topic again, just going to say, “LF1M must be lvl80 with full Ai. Link armor in pst.”. This is gating. No matter that you can do the dungeon in exotics first. Sooner or later you must have the Ai to survive. This should have been more of a test for skill, not “Let’s add this system and make everyone have to wear this armor so they can be back on a level playing field again”. Where is the challenge!? It isn’t a challenge, it is just grinding to get more gear. Gear is not character progression.

While it’d be nice to be on the OP side of things for the sake of simply not being bad.
I don’t want to be OP. I just want to be FUN. Thief and Mesmer were my first 2 classes starting from Beta, it’s just too easy.
I just want to see how builds/skill/playstyles fleshed out and have the various options other classes have, and things to make people jealous of us.
Agreed. The only thing that we have for others to be envious of is Epidemic and a bit more survivability. I played in the beta weekends as a Necro, and couldn’t get away from it, due to it fitting me, like my GW1 did. I don’t want us to be OP again, just balanced with everyone else, and, like you said, fun.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
Okay okay okay, we got some confirmation about how the system is going to work. It’s a gap closer between exotic and legendary not a treadmill starter. The gate mechanic is still there and that sucks BUT if it stays in that dungeon then it’s not really a big deal is it?
Can we let this beast die now? I’m ashamed I started this thread to begin with..
Eh, if it wasn’t you, then it would have been someone else. :/ At least you will be known!
I am just really against the gate. Everyone should be able to play the new dungeons without having to get the Ai to survive it. This content should have been more about skill and not about more gear (no matter how few there will be at the beginning) to get to enjoy the new content.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
About time. New gear and something new to work towards.
Suck it up, casuals.
I am not a casual, and I don’t like that the gear is required to do the new dungeons. New gear? Great, but it should stick to the promises they made.

Personally, I hope GW2 is a stepping stone to MMORPG/beat-em-up hybrids (not of the button mashing variety obviously). If you know Dragon´s Dogma, imagine that on a MMORPG scale.
No idea what you are talking about here. Last time I played Dragon’s Dogma, all I needed was 2 buttons to win. High Bolide and High Maelstrom.
Great game, but I wouldn’t want to see its current combat system in GW2. It had some flaws. :/ I am sure (or at least I hope) they will improve the combat system of GW2 later down the road, though. I tire of the “rotations” that MMORPG’s have.
Edit: I agree that classes need to be more complex. The combo fields are nice, but also pretty simple. There needs to be more complexity with the rest of the skills too.

We already got a swing of that bat. Necro was OP in BWE1 (or was it 2?) and we got hit pretty hard for that.
We had it made in BW1 (wait…maybe it was 2)! I miss that necro, but my GW1 necro even more. -_-
Back to the topic. I don’t think they want the BW1 Necro back. It was very hard to be taken down then. I am pretty sure that is why we are what we are now.

I am seriously wondering if there is even a dev that plays Necro because they like it.
I am definitely not believing the “Necros need alot of love” at this point. They can say what they want, but actions will determine whether or not they were just saying it or plan on actually fixing us. Here’s to hope for the 15th….

I wouldn’t mind it changing to having your char swing the staff and launch the little scythe blade with he animation the Focus bounce attack has.
Bonus points if they change the pierce attack to a bounce attack. =p
I definitely second this. I love the focus animation, but I don’t use it. >.> The bounce would be much better. I don’t exactly see the enemy coming at me like a line of ducks.
(“Big Hat”)Praise the Sun!
I am going to have to disagree. I like Death Shroud. It would be nice to have some kind of passive from it, but overall, I really like it.
I am going to have to quote Morvian in that it does need to have a benefit for conditionmancers beyond it being a damage absorption.
However, I still really like DS and don’t want to see it go.

if u think necro skills are slow then u shod try meany other MMO’S, my point is that i have seen much slower spell cast’s in MMO’S then necro has & that’s why i ton’t complain about it

I know what you mean with the other MMO’s having slow cast times, but if you compare our skills to other classes, you will see that ours are quite slow.
Btw: Hope you enjoy Necro!

I like this guys solution.
(That exploit also works for Rangers by the way. And I suspect any other class.)
Hahah – that is so brilliant – and the fact that large parts of the community knows but ANet apparent don’t, only make the irony so much better.
I can confirm your suspicions with Necro using this exploit as well. (Idk how to play thief at all and just randomly placed traits too, as suggested in video.)

No idea what OP means here. I main staff. I see no reason why I shouldn’t. It is great for any situation.
If I were to have a weapon set, mine would be Staff and DS. I don’t find any of the other weapons to do as much for my build. The daggers are too close for my liking, the axe is…the axe, and the scepter is a weapon for complete condition damage. I am in staff 90% of the time. The 10% is just to switch for a warhorn swiftness.

-_- Yep. Didn’t expect it to go very far. Still didn’t answer my question about how his life bar functions, either.
I think its working as intended. Its a separate life bar that in the same way going below 0 health in normal wouldn’t put you at negative health or take the remaining damage of your downed health, falling below 0 death shroud health wont take it off your normal health like;
You fall below 0 downed health, you die.
You fall below 0 health, your downed.
You fall below 0 death shroud health, it dies.
Exactly what I was trying to explain to him, but yours is in a neater, easier to understand fashion.

samkong has the first part explained.
Death Shroud is its own life bar. When it depletes, you don’t go into a downed state, you just return to normal form. When you have 400hp and that Warrior hits you for 4k, does it take that from your downed state?
If you are looking at “(NB0115) If you enter DS while getting hit by a channeled damaging ability, the damage “bleeds” through to your regular health instead of / in addition to hitting the DS life force pool”, then you must have read it wrong. I have looked over the confirmed and see nothing. The link does not go to a specific page, as I have seen in some post over 6 pages long. It does not state that it is overkill. If this is actually happening, than it is a bug (still awaiting confirmation).

So necros can DS and fall of the highest mountain in the game, and still be alive? no. Guess why?
Because an Ele in mistform can’t either?
“Assume a spectral form and gain new skills, turning your life force into health. Entering this form removes other spectral effects.” Following this, it is working as intended. The life force grants another health bar. When it is depleted, it is Death Shroud ending. No matter how much extra is received.
Overkill doesn’t work on your life bar, does it?

Remove bleeds entirely from Necro and give us Necrosis stacks instead.
in Necromancer
Posted by: Archmagel.1350
Actually, I tend to dislike the idea of “unique” debuffs or conditions. It makes balancing much easier and easier for a player to understand if there’s only a limited number of debuffs or conditions.
I’d rather just see a stack of 25 bleeds turn into something like a greater bleed. IE upon reaching 25 bleeds the game removes them and replaces them with a single ‘greater bleed’ which has the same intensity as the bleeds it’s replacing but in a separate package allowing a second stack of bleeds to be generated.
This would be fine and dandy in pve, but I support this idea for the pvp aspect. As of right now, it would be only under the best circumstances that we achieved that 25 bleed stacks in pvp. Plus, we are the masters of corruption. I think it would make sense for us to have advanced knowledge of conditions enough to have an exclusive one. We only have direct access to bleeds and poison. They are the weakest ones on the list.
I believe Anet’s design speaks to an attempt to reduce the amount of “debuff clutter” on the game’s UI, as well as simplify and clarify what every attack will do. If I’m a engineer, I should be able to fight a warrior and receive bleed debuffs, and expect that anyone else applying a similar debuff would do so in a manner than functions in the same way, rather than needing to keep track of 8 profession’s worth of unique powers and effects.
I can see the UI attempt, but I have still had enough boons for them to go under my map, lol. Though, I don’t think that 1 more condition, especially one that we could most definitely use, such as this one, will do much harm.
They already have many ways of allowing professions to do things in different manners, though. I am not exactly sure what you mean there. Could you elaborate more?
(Sorry, I just get lost in the text sometimes.)

Think of it this way: if you play a necromancer, you get to know your skills very intimately, unlike a lot of spammable professions (Thieves and warriors). Balance issues are temporary, knowledge on your profession is more permanent.
That is very well said!
You should definitely give Necro a whirl. When you are able to do well with the way it is now, you will be great when the balancing happens. I can’t see myself playing (and staying) with any other profession just because Necro fits me.
