This does look interesting, however…

My issue is how.. cookie cutter the pets are. Each family of pets has the same stats. Same skills. The only difference between them are the F2 skills that are basically similiar in most cases. There’s no ability to train or build your pets along the lines you want them. Only affecting them with a few skills and traits on the ranger itself.

Having alot of pets is wonderful however. Honestly I would prefer a few, high quality, custom trained and cared for pets than a small army of cutout pets. To be honest over half of the pets, in my opinion, are practically useless in a real crunch. What happens when they go down? Ranger DPS flops. Right now only the high Vitality and Toughness pets have any chance at all and that’s if the Ranger specs heavily into the beastmaster traitline and chooses traitlines that have utility supports. Even then at the high levels, not even gonna mention dungeons, they get flattened in any world event in short order.

I think Ranger skills should affect the Ranger. Then pets should have their own setup completely seperate from the Ranger’s. Have skills and traits that when used in conjunction support the both in tandem or have both spec’d to be able to stand on their own.

I’ve spent time, since the second beta test, running through the pets. Trying out different trait balances. Skills to support or stand on their own. Gw2 blows mmo cut&paste build out of the water on alot of things… the pet setup just isn’t one of them.

Downloaded the update yesterday/ Crashed twice trying to log in. Figured it had to do with connection as everyone was updating. Was busy a bit today got on this evening.. crash Dangit. Signed in, chose character. Made it to the game. 5 minutes playing. crashchaintheregoesGuildWars2andFirefox

Charr Feet

Something about the feet had been bugging me for the longest time. It took answering the phone while underwater for me to notice. Many of the foot armor was made for the plantigrade set and just slipped over the charr foot. The end of the boots would be inside of the foot while the claws set up too high on the feet would hide the fact and the rear claw would help hide the soul of some of the boots.
I always wondered why the claws on charr feet were so oddly positioned since it would keep them from being used for tracktion and the rear claw for the lowered down position the leg would take when crouching.
Well now I know and share.
I really hope they fix it.

Necromancer, Greataxe, and minions

Just as the title states, add the greataxe as a 2h counter to the one hand axe. Those classes that use the 1h axe could use the greataxe. I figure it will be added in the future sometime but think it should come sooner rather than later.

This will give necromancera boost since in many ways the greataxe and reaper scyth that seems to appear on the staff when autocasting are similiar. Instead of a graphic image the greataxe could deal direct damage for those who wish to attempt such a build with the necromancer.

I’m sure there will be a few howls of protest from non necros but overall the explosive damage build the necro lacks in comparison to every other class available would be taken care of without major game mechanic revamping for the poor, bugg ridden, class.

About the minions, why not take the ranger’s recorded page of pets and use a similiar system allowing necro’s to see the stats of the monstrosities? With a physical location located on the player’s personal data in the server you can then work on the skills and traitlines to have some skills and traits directly affected them for those who want a small army of undead at the beck and call and not a bunch of kitten shamblers that fall apart if someone sneezes on them.

Why does the idea Mount focus on speed? I mean in some of the games I have seen some silly ideas for fast mounts. Turtle going around as fast as a cat? Oi.. The idea of different combat skills like an environment weapon is a good one. Different attacks while on the mount for some of the weapons. Long ranged weapons would probably be left mostly alone.

<..< Although that rifle move by the engineer that launches him back brings some hilarious images to mind of players flying off their mount with it running off in a frazzle.

You would also need to take into account the build of the mount in question as well as the culture of each race. The Charr being what they are I’d expect an iron machine type. It’d be either lightly armored and fast for some kiting (10% boost to speed is all I go since many signets give that) or heavy armored (-5% reduction to incoming damage) and ponderous. You don’t need massive boosts but if it’s just cosmetic without taking into account what they are besides additions to the character, but living, or driving, additions.

After adding my 2 cents to the whole thing, personally. I don’t care if mounts are added or not. I’m just madly curious how Anet would break the mold with the old school mount system for boosted speed bit.

Make A Shapeshifting Class

Shape shifting class would be a novel idea. But instead of using the animals the Ranger uses why not use the shapes and forms of those that are not. Rock Dog, Wind Walker, Raptor, Barricuda, .. well you get the idea. In the higher maps you’ve got all types of creatures infected with the Brand. Figuring out how the brand infects creatures leads to the insights of self transformation usually only available those who are supported by the Norn Guardians.

Why not make the first pet you get one that can’t be found in the world. 3 choices, each one changed or affected by Race, Personality and Starting group.

For example the Charr. Brute personality, Iron Legion. Any Ranger who is a charr would have a specific pet choice. Any player who has a Brute personality another choice. Then there’s the 3 groups for each race. You could have the same 3 types, less work, for each race or a unique one for each group depending on the history of that group. For example, the Iron Legion is unlike other groups. IT could start off with one of those machine critters on the Piory map. (can’t remember the map name. XD )

With the various history, personality and cultural devirsity you could have alot of fun designing each one without resorting to the static stats I’ve noticed on the pet families.

Necromancer: Reanimator

Some old posts were listed in the bug section about the spawning and rapid death of the minion. As of now it’s utterly useless. Does little damage for One Single Hit IF it actually makes it to a mob. Why should it die? It’s spawned from a body, not manifested through necromatic magics from the earth.

I’d understand if reanimator actually did what the word ment and reanimated a mob to fight for you for a time before death took it again. Say 30 seconds up with a 30 second recast timer. Veteran and Champion mobs being immune. Perhaps a shorter recast timer, like 15 seconds allowing a person to have 2 more mobs going at a time.

Either that or remove the 20% health drain and let the little buggers remain up. It’s not like they’re massively powerful like hunter pets. Or useful in the extreme like mesmer or damage dealing machines like the elementals at the Elementalist’s disposal.

It randomly unequips, sure just switching back is a press of the button but none of the other kits I’ve tested do this. I’ve tried them out and left them on four a couple of hours doing absolutely nothing and they remain equipped. Just the grenade kit does it.

Savnir's Dome sound bug

This has happened four times for me. During and after the lions assault on Savnir’s Dome the sound will cut out and in place of it will be… sort of a siren like sound. Mid tones, not the upper tones usually. The rythm is steady, it doesn’t randomly change pitch or timing.

Be careful. The armor skins are sorted into light, medium, and heavy. Which I find odd. If I’m paying for a look I don’t want to be limited by my armor type.

Done five events, all of them with the rewards along the lines of 18 exp, 2 karma and 1-2 copper. I’m a level 7 charr and the events are level’s 4-6. So It can’t be because of the level nerf. It also started in the midst of playing around.. 12:00 server time I believe.

I run around as a Ranger, saw the suit for the light armor, however didn’t fully read the description since I read it once around the start of Live. Dunno if the light part was there then or not but I snagged the needed crystals, bought the suit, then tried to stick it to my current, Medium, armor.

Why does Black Lion Shop armor have to be forced onto only certain armor types? I’m sure there are heavy users who want the pirate suit and some casters who would like to look like an iron tank running around. It’s just looks right. No stats. Don’t limit us and perhaps more of them would sell.

PS: If not then gimme my gems back!

Master's Bond – stacks wiped by swimming on surface!

Why not treat the Master’s Bond with the same mechanic they have for that mini trait boon that copies any “Boon” the player has onto the pet. Although that is buggy since I have caught it not working multiple times in a fight. Then the stacks would survive switching, swimming, and submerging to a water pet. Upon Ranger down or pet death the stacks would of course vanish. It would require being able to switch pets before they’re killed, all it takes is the pet to take critical damage or be on the cooldown timer for switching to lose it.

Of course Master’s Bond wouldn’t do anything for the Ranger but would simply copy onto the pet that is active until one of the canceling conditions was met.

Pet question, survivability and damage

The pets do have limited survivability in the low levels. However as they level they gain more stats than the player, even with the stat bonuses on gear, but only somewhat. Unless you pump points into the Beastmastery traits, then it’s a whole nother story. The +30 isn’t a base stat, it’s a % giving your pet a 30% boost to all 4 stats. Then if, like myself, you don’t like switching pets all the time you use the #2 trait skill Master’s Bond. It adds stats for each kill maxing out at 25 stacks. Low level it’s +2 I think, but at level 80 the boost is 8. Add that to the 30% boost from beastmaster, maxed, and almost every pet is solid for solo fighting. High vitality pets get the most out of the ranger’s constant regen rune. High toughness pets… all I can say is I am a Toughness Ranger taking hits for 1k-1.2k while my pet Fern Hound only takes 400-500 damage.

It’s an AoE rapid fire weapon that deals condition damage.
It’s not the actual hit that is painful is the stack of 7 bleeds that is.

If you really want to be a monster underwater, grab some cheap condition + gear and speargun then go for a swim.

Master's Boon

My favorite skill in the trait line so far has a flaw. It stats that Stregnth, Precision, Vitality and toughness will increase with every kill. However this is not true. The highest stat on any pet will not raise. I have tested this with several types and only the lower stats increase. The pet’s golden stat remains static.

Bug? Or is it programmed that way.

Deer.
Buck, Doe, Ect. That rapidfire kicking attack is nifty.

Also the squishyness of pets is indeed a problem, I put my 2 cents in another post and decided to add it here. Gear/Rune effects that focus not on the player but pet/summons. I know I’d focus more on my pet that holds agro off me to keep it alive longer than myself since the Canine/Insect toughness is well over 2k with beastmastery and Master’s Bond maxed out. It’s just the fact that defense is useless against conditions and spells.

Add me to this long list of people with the greyed out Mistfire wolf skill. I hadn’t even planned to prepurchase until I saw it. Beta was fun but never got to play the wolf and with it live it’s unusable?

I find my biggest trouble is with the underwater jellyfish. At times I can go through na entire event without thekittenskill triggering.

I’ve played a Ranger class most of the time but have tried all the other classes that summon. I immediately noticed the lack of change in their output even though the gear I used changed.

They could do alot of recoding and such I’m sure to fix the whole problem or add something that I find lacking.

Gear that supports the pets/summons. Sure making my character stronger to deal damage and stay alive is good but for me I find it fun making pets more powerful than my character. Gear with stat, boon or effect bonuses for summons and pets would make things more interesting. Especially since every job has a summon, thanks to the mistfire wolf, so stuff like added damage, regeneration or longer summon durations would be a good fix for it.

Your summons not strong enough or vanish too soon to be real effective. Snag a few pieces of jewelry or gear to fix the problem.

Bugs when leveled down from your normal level

Not consistant but having everything set to the player scaled level. There are multiple items with thier own levels. IE: Chocolate cookies should have full effect at 30+. Instead the effect is scaled down because of the player’s level. If that’s so then why have a level on the food, sigils, runes?

I thought it was odd at first, couldn’t quite figure out the problem. Then I got myself some level 30 chocolate chip cookies to take into the level 30 AC dungeon. I /should/ have gotten +40 precision, instead I got 8.

The debuff you get is set to the players level, not the level of the gear, the level of the food, or the level of the addons you place on your gear.

I’ve tested it on a wide array of food, sigils and runes. They are not giving the buffs they say they do simply because the player him, or her, self is leveled above the area they are in. It’s not just high levels. I used one of those 0 level bloodlust sigils in a weapon for my lvl 9, at the time, necro. Found a spot on the map were a few steps would move me from level 9 to level 8 and back. Maxed the 25 stacks, only got +50 by the way, then proceeded to watch as the 50 bonus given by the sigil dropped to 12 because of the drop in 1 little level.

Needless to say the fact that all stats, buffs and boons, affected by the decrease in stats according to the player level needs to be addressed.

Time an again I’ve played the, will this trigger?, game when fighting with my pets. I’ve learned doubletapping will increase the chances but also somehow will reset the skill being used when the second tap hits just because it decided to work on the first tap. Sometimes even then it won’t trigger. I’ve gone entire events without being able to trigger a skill, this was underwater, for some reason this effect is much stronger in the underwater only pets.

Lack of Market Preview

Dunno if it’s a bug or just lack of programming but I’d like to see how something looks on me before I buy it. I’ve been torn between stat sets and wished I could preview them to decide on that since the stats have me torn either way. Plus.. stats are important for fighting but I dont’ care how good the stats are .. if it’s ugly as sin I won’t wear it.
