Yeah some of the ANet devs finally responded to the backlash for the lack of engineer weapon skins, mostly saying “Sorry we had to make choices and little time”, yet they chose to create another Greatsword skin using that time.
Engineers never see the weapons or backitems
and giving even less respect with the weapon skins.it’s disgusting to see them churn out swords and greatswords, and they don’t have the nerve to address the lack of content for engineers. If they are inclined they usually tell us “tough luck” like they did on SAB.
bah… as an Engineer, I like being the “red-headed step child” of the professions. It gives us an edge to our playstyle. Watch your fellow engies out in WvW, sure they are few and far between, but they are easy to spot. usually lobbing ‘nades, charging in with underpowered flamethrower and dieing fast, but laughing maniacally the whole time or maybe dropping bombs in the middle of a zerg… I don’t know how many times I have solo chased 10+ ppl back to their tower by making a lot of noise, did I get wxp or badges? Nope, but it was a hoot none the less
I’ve never understood why people say the flamethrower is underpowered. Of course I run a condition/crit spec and the flamethrower is the best kit for gaining rapid crits and applying conditions.
Umm… Sorry but no thanks. You voiced your opinion, so I will voice mine. One of the big reasons I play an Engineer almost exclusively is because there is much less pressure to get a legendary.
(While talking about adding ascended gear)
“We didn’t have something above that exotic level that you put in a lot of time and earn it, but you don’t have to put in your whole life to earn it like a legendary weapon. (Colin Johanson, Arenanet Developer)I played the Engineer because I did not want to feel like I needed to put in my whole life to earn something.
That is my completely honest opinion.
I fail to see how making legendaries more viable would also make them necessary, but you are entitled to your opinion. I just feel that the current system doesn’t make legendaries worthwhile to those of us who do want them.
I don’t believe legendary kits will ever be available. I do believe that in time, legendary weapons on Engies will change the appearance of existing kits though.
That is all I have ever asked for. In fact I’ve said repeatedly I’d be willing to accept less.
Ok so lets say there was a legendary kit….how could engi’s decide which one? This would mean anet would have to add A legendary kit for each one
Actually no, they wouldn’t. All Arena Net would need to do is create a universal kit backpack for three legendary weapons; Quip, The Predator, and The Flameseeker Prophesies. Heck, given how quickly and easily they can whip up new backpacks for the gem store, holiday events, and the Super Adventure Box I don’t think it would be two hard for them to come up with a backpack for each kit.
Three legendary weapons. Four kits. That is only twelve new backpack skins. That wouldn’t take very long at all, and they don’t even have to come up with them all at once. They could do this one legendary at a time, or even one kit at a time.
“In the May patch we’ll be adding legendary weapon effects form The Predator Rifle to engineer flamethrowers. Look forward to additional kit support and effects from other legendaries in the coming months.”
This would be better suited to the suggestion sub-forum. That said this seems a simple and non-intrusive thing to add. Just something that can be patched in after a few minutes coding. Hope it works out of you.
Anyone know what the update was for?
Maintenance. Said it on the forums a short while ago (so this guy has hardly had “several hours” for it to patch), nothing new was added, no fixes, they were just making sure the servers were up and running properly.
Several hours?
Must be a bad internet connection. My client patches is under three minutes, and I haven’t DCed since headstart.
He/ she is a mesmer and medium armor doesn’t make any sense in that case at all. xD
So click the light armor button near the top and see all the pants. I’ve seen several for both genders. In fact, in terms of female armor, I’d have to say that Guild Wars 2 is overall one of the most conservative MMOs I’ve ever seen.
You misunderstand, I do not mean as far as skin being shown.
I mean simple pants, no dress over it. Or skirt over it, for that matter.
If you click Female -> Human -> Light armor, you will notice that the pants disappear.
Ah, something of a different issue. Sorry, I just assumed this was another repeat of the same old nonsense. My mistake.
That said I feel your pain; I feel much the same way about coats with mid-armor. So I agree; we just plain need more armor sets with a greater diversity of styles. (Can I get some long chain-mail tunics and coats for heavy armor, please? I hate plate-mail.)
Very good point. I would love to see a shotgun skin in the game. I’d probably start regularly playing rifle if I did.
I can’t say much on kits. I’ve almost exclusively played my engie and in 700 hours /age I have yet to find a combo of kits I like as much as my turrets + supply drop! <3 my turrets. So I spend a great deal of time using my pistols. lol
Ah but you see the problem? You’re not using your pistols because you like them; you’re using them because you like your turrets. So the choice for an engineer is not “do you favor weapons, turrets, gadgets, or kits?” it is rather “do you prefer turrets, kits, or gadgets?” Our weapons are so sub-par that the only reason to actually use them is because you prefer non-kit utility skills. The weapons themselves are unimpressive.
For example; I spent a lot of time trying different weapon combos to find my favorite for my ranger. And nearly as long with my mesmer. I almost instantly fell in love with staff for my necro, but still use other weapons regularly. Yet with my engineer….yeah; I just felt “meh, I’ll never actually use it anyway, so I’ll just roll with a set that lets me use two sigils.”
He/ she is a mesmer and medium armor doesn’t make any sense in that case at all. xD

I see plenty of pants..
This is old news. People have been complaining about the armors in this game without actually knowing what kinds of armors are available since well before beta started.
Totally off topic.. but why can an Engineer throw a grenade further than he/she can shoot a rifle?!?!
Because, as Tolmos stated, our rifles are really more of a shotgun. And it is pretty common in games for grenades to have a longer effective range than shotguns.
Personally, I wish they would give Engineers the ability to use Rifles. And no, we don’t use Rifles now. We use shotguns that they lazily implemented to use a rifle weapon base. But they are shotguns, no matter how you look at it.
An interesting point, although I look at it from the other perspective; shotguns seem better suited to engineers than rifles. So I’d rather we get an interesting shotgun skin to match those skills. That said I think all of our weapons need another pass to make them viable; as right now it seems a lot of engineers, myself included, seem to feel that our base weapons are simply outclassed by our kits in every regard.
Direct damage = flamethrower
Conditions = grenades
Support = Elixir gun
Control = bombs
AoE = also grenades
Really next to kits our weapons are borderline worthless from a practical standpoint.
Why should engis get special treatment!
More like equal treatment really. So far engineers have been getting pretty much shafted with everything. And really having existing legendary weapons effect kits is little different than having The Juggernaut effect heavy armor skins.
Why should warriors/guardians get special treatment?!
Some legendaries change the animation of skills, so I dont think that it´s too much to ask, when an engineer that spend a good amount of time and gold on a legendary has a slightly better loook on their kits than the average hobo backpack.
My dream, and let me be clear; I know there is absolutely zero chance of this ever happening, is for engineers to be given access to hammers, that way I can go for my absolute favorite legendary; The Juggernaut. I see my engineer stomping around with that awesome looking liquid metal armor overlay, leaving quicksilver drops with his footsteps, and with that same liquid metal effect added to his flamethrower and its backpack, with the skills altered so that my favorite weapon-kit belches out streams of molten metal rather than basic flames. That, in my opinion, would be worth every gold, every skill point, all the RNG, and every second of grind.
I think the real problem is people in charge signing off on it being ok for the same weapon types being added with special events. Not everyone wants to pay money or spend gold on gems for certain skins of certain weapon types but have access to greatswords, shields and swords every time new skins are added.
my hope is that at Halloween this year they don’t have the skins they had last year, but add the ones in that they didn’t have by way of in game acquisition that didn’t involve the gem shop. pistols, focus items, torches, warhorns etc. need to be the ones that get some love. MACES need love too ArenaNet. I can honestly say there are two maces that I find tolerable. As much as I love Moonshine, I dual wield it on my warrior and have one on my Guardian. Is a Morningstar on a chain too much to ask for?
Not to undermine your point, as I do feel your pain, but technically speaking a “morningstar on a chain” isn’t actually a mace. That would be a flail. A mace is characterized by a heavy striking point atop a ridged shaft. In essence, a club. Flails would be an entirely different weapon type.
It’s still comparable.
But if you agrue like this, why doesn’t my necro get legendary minions? Why doesn’t get my mesmer legendary phantasms? Why doesn’t my ranger get legendary pets? Why don’t you request legendary turrets?
Because none of those things replace your weapon. A necro can still use their weapon skills while running a minion build, a mesmer still struts around with a greatsword or whatever with phantasms up, and a ranger still blasts away with his bow while his pet runs around. A kit based engineer can’t say this. And while I agree that kits are functionally similar to elementalist conjured weapons, you overlook the fact that for most builds engineer weapons just plain suck.
Yes that is a personal opinion, but it is one shared by a lot of other engineer players. Our kits are obviously a class mechanic, and as was said before the fact that Arena Net altered sigils to apply to kits proves that a sizable percentage of engineers use kits as their primary, if not exclusive, weapon set. The same simply cannot be said for the elementalist, as outside of frost bow, conjured weapons are actually rather rare.
Finally this issue is actually really, really easy to solve and requires little new content to be created. Just make it so on-character particle effects and animations, as well as any foot step trail, remain when the kit is toggled on. Simple. If they want to go the extra mile they can tweet the kit skill effects to match (just as they tweaked nearly all non-engineer skills to have slightly different effects and animations when using a legendary. Hell the hammer actually changes your armor; that means they had to go through and QA check that weapon not only with every skill, but also every heavy armor skin in the game across all races, so don’t act like they refuse to go above and beyond for something only a small percentage of the community will ever use). That wouldn’t be the best solution, but it would be an acceptable one.
I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree and drop it. This thread has been derailed enough. And while I wouldn’t necessarily be adverse to constantly remaking it each time it gets locked just to force someone at Arena Net to pay attention, getting banned would be annoying.
But if they took the time to meet and answer every complaint on the forums, think about how long it would take them to actually produce content.
Well they seem to be producing content at a nice pace in spite of taking time out to post bad jokes in random crap threads.
Okay guy sits at his desk, maybe having a coffee, he’s reading the forums, relaxing, he makes a joke. He didn’t have a meeting to make the joke. There was nothing to be decided. Answering you has ZERO to do with someone on their down time making a joke.
Are you saying because he didn’t answer you,. he shouldn’t talk on the forums at all ever for any reason? Cause it sounds like that’s what you’re saying.
He can come on the forums and talk to anyone he chooses. What he can’t do is give you an answer he doesn’t have. I’m not sure why this is so hard for you to understand.
Again I’m not asking for an answer. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Someone could pop in and post random gibberish and I’d be happy. Literally I’ll something to the effect of “ohuohugigjigfwue” and be done with it. I just want confirmation that they care enough to at least look at the freaking thread. Heck I don’t care if they even read it, just click the kitten link and post something.
But you’re not the only person with a problem. You’ve admitted this yourself. And Anet can’t make a decision based on you. Once Anet says ANYTHING, anything at all, people will get the idea that they’re working on it, pretty much no matter what they say.
If they say they’re not working on it, well then that might kitten off other people. Just because you’d react one way doesn’t mean they’re going to base their policy of annoucing or answering things based on you.
What part of that don’t you understand?
You say that almost like you think the good people at Arena Net are adverse to foot-in-mouth syndrome. As I recall there are times it appeared they were actually rather fond of it. Given the number of times they have upset people with their comments when it would have been better to say nothing your argument doesn’t really hold water.
But if they took the time to meet and answer every complaint on the forums, think about how long it would take them to actually produce content.

(p.s. Amazed this thread has lasted so long in the general Guild Wars 2 forum rather than being rapidly shunted out of sight to the Eng forum.)
Please don’t give them any ideas….seriously….I’ve been trying to get attention for this issue for a long time.
But if they took the time to meet and answer every complaint on the forums, think about how long it would take them to actually produce content.
Well they seem to be producing content at a nice pace in spite of taking time out to post bad jokes in random crap threads.
Would that actually make you happier?
Yes. Because then I could at least say they know there is at least a small percentage of their community having such issues, and that at least means that they might do something about it eventually. I’m no fool, I know this wouldn’t be a priority; I would just like, after months, to get at least a nod and a wave so I know they at least acknowledge people are upset.
-snip-
So you’re telling me that Colin Johanson himself can pop into an obviously meaningless thread about a purely subjective problem one guy is having, and make a bad joke about a special NPC that appears and gives you a thumbs up when you hit max level, yet it is unreasonable to think that after months, and months of repeated threads, facebook posts, and tweets the multiple engineer players upset by this could get a simple “we are aware of your concerns?”
Give me a break. I’m not asking for a solution right this instant; I just want them to acknowledge the issue. Heck these guys will type paragraphs about mounts after saying hundreds of times that they are not putting them in, and yet they can’t take two seconds to type six words here. You can say I am overreacting if you want, but I find that both ridiculous and insulting.
Actually I use a Rifle quite frequently as an engie, particularly in WvW, where I use it to stop people with a net, before switching to my kit. And in most of the open world, you really don’t “need” to use kits all the time. So you can certainly show off your rifle, if that’s what you want to do.
I’m not so sure that most engineers are as kitten off about this as you are. Then again, I’m not a big one for walking around with my legendary for everyone to see it. Mostly because I don’t care what other people think.
They’ll see it when they see it, and they won’t when they won’t. In fact, the second legendary I’m going for is an underwater weapon.
I’m not sure how many people this has really ruined the end game for, though apparently at least some of you are really upset about it.
Well I can say for a fact I’m not the only one making a fuss. And the situation is being exasperated a bit by Arena Net refusing to comment in spite of multiple threads, facebook posts, and tweets. Honestly would it kill them to say something? At this point even “tough luck, get over it” from an official source would be better than getting no word on the subject of any kind for nearly six months.
People have been suggesting this for that long? I see….I guess that means this is one of those issues Arena Net is going to completely ignore.
As the title says. Please label asura gates, by destination, on the map and mini-map. I still don’t know what gate goes where in Lion’s Arch by heart, and Rata Sum is needlessly confusing.
Yeah well Arena Net, as wonderful as they can be at times, have a habit of screwing up their own games one way or another.
Unless you are trying to level quickly then no; crafting is not worth it. You can’t craft anything that you can’t get on the trading post for half the cost, you can’t make any money off it, and the skins you make are butt-ugly. Well, at least the leather worker skins are ugly, I actually rather like some of the tailoring ones.
There has been some balance work done, yes, and they’ve been hyping their progress with culling in WvW. As far as new content….well depending on how long you’ve been away we got a new supposedly endless dungeon called Fractals of the Mists, and….not much else to be honest.
There is an island you can reach through Lion’s Arch, but short of farming for a new crafting mat no one ever goes there, and there is nothing to do there. Kind of dead-end content really. They hyped it, added it, and have since done nothing with it. Honestly I think they may have forgotten about it. At the very least it was a “go nowhere” plot thread.
I’d be very pleased with a precision/condition damage/healing set; my engineer would dominate. But that isn’t likely to happen.
I gave up. I realized that it would be completely meaningless to have a pretty skin on my weapon if I never actually used it (I’m an engineer running a kit based build).
Reroll another class, the more engineers that do that hopefully will show them enough data that they need an overhaul asap, not turret fixes not grenade nerfs but real life fixes to their weapons..
And even if they don’t you’ll still feel better on a class that works..i personally had a engi i loved but i haven’t touched it in months..
Believe me I’ve tried. I hit content burnout at level forty with a ranger, and twenty-five with a thief. An entirely separate thread could be made on this issue, but the simple fact is that, at least to me, the leveling content in this game just isn’t fun after the first time though.
Clearly that idea of the zones feeling different and still being exciting each time you go through them because of dynamic events didn’t exactly work out as intended.
( there are exceptions of course).
Not enough of them. I never thought I would prefer guru, but there at least the mods would respond to a PM and the developers would actually respond to an occasional community concern. It is still strange to me that they actually communicate directly with their fans less now that they have their own forums.
Well, after months of time, and repeated threads by myself and others, Arena Net has still said absolutely nothing in regards to an issue that is hurting the so called “end game” for many players, and all but killed it for myself. So rather than create another thread in the suggestions sub-forum to be swiftly buried under requests for stupid crap like race changes, mounts, and rifles for the ranger, I’m just going to outline the issue one last time here, and open it up for general discussion to see where the community at large stands, and if Arena Net remains blind to it.
In a nut shell the issue is that to the vast majority of Engineer players those coveted (pretty much sole form of PvE endgame) legendary weapons are completely and utterly worthless. And most haven’t even figured that out yet. I could rant and rave about it, again, but instead I’ll just cut right to the chase; kits. Most engineers use kits almost exclusively, and indeed engineer base weapons are widely regarded as being unimpressive. Because of this all the hard work and time put into a legendary would be completely meaningless because we would never actually use the thing, yet we have nothing equivalent to work for.
What this means is after we’ve done everything, seen all the dungeon paths, and finished our stories we pretty much are better served turning the game off and never touching it again. Unless you like running Fractals (personally I hate endlessly repeating the same dungeon, but to each his own) there is absolutely nothing left to hold you to the game once you finish the story and dungeon content. This is disappointing to most, disheartening to some, and downright frustrating to a few of us.
Ever since day one I was standing up to defend Guild Wars 2 against accusations of “no endgame” and yet now I feel like an utter fool because, at least for me, it actually doesn’t have any. I’m left without a goal or an interesting narrative to keep me invested in the game. Yes I could play an alt, but in all honesty I really just only “kind of like” a few professions, and flat out hate others. Plus I’ve already seen the story, so after level thirty or so the game would be just a re-run. This is unfortunate, and made more so by Arena Net completely refusing to even acknowledge the problem.
Well that’s the issue. That is the main Guild Wars 2 related topic on my mind right now. Discuss.
(edited by Arkham Creed.7358)
/sighs
I really wish that Arena Net would stop ignoring this issue and at least say something on the subject.
God that’s it! Me and my fiancee have been trying to find where to get that armor since head-start, after seeing an NPC wearing it in part of her personal story. We simply must have this back as soon as possible.
Addendum:
Given that armor’s style and the body markings, it occurs to me that it would be well suited to a Guild Wars 2 equivalent of the canceled “Utopia” expansion from the first game, specifically themed for a reborn ritualist profession.
(edited by Arkham Creed.7358)
A sight addition to this idea; new armor skins.
People have been asking for skins designed and specifically to the existing professions for a while now, and while I personally don’t feel such a thing is warranted because all the current professions are rather distinct in terms of their abilities and weapons (for example; if you see a mid-armor wearing character with an axe the only thing they could be is a ranger), I do feel that having another way to tell the advanced classes apart could be helpful. Such as being able to tell a base ranger from a druid, and a druid from a merc . As such having “advanced armors” skins available that are locked by profession as well as level would be a nice touch.
I’d make all legendary weapons used by the engineer have some sort of noticeable and worth while effect on all engineer kits. It still bothers me that legendary weapons are completely worthless to engineers.
and when the prices on the tp go up or down? e.g 1 gold ingot is 33c, x3 = merch value @ 1.05s .Tp gold ingot shoots up to 1 s/ingot (3 s total) and merchant value is still 1s 05c…
I don’t care. I am talking strictly about the vender value. What happens to that because of the insane whims of the community are not a factor in this.
Can’t do it. It would have a dramatic impact on the personal story and pretty much void your character’s entire history. To say nothing of the impact it would have on the game’s replay value. And yes; this is an MMO based more around replay value than perpetual content. You’re supposed to make alts.
An understandable point. But I hold to my stance of raising the vender value of crafted items to match the material cost. Leave off the added five percent if you’re worried about inflation, but I will go to my grave (yes I am being dramatic) firmly believing that something made out of three gold ingots should have a value at least equal to three gold ingots.
As it stands the only reason for a crafted item to be worth less is if it was intended from the start to be salvaged (as you’ll always get less from it), but honestly I would hope that Arena Net created and coded all these hundreds of items with their primary intent being use, rather than salvage.
Kind of what WOW gives users for in-game gold?
Yes well, I assure you I find no pleasure in saying this.
Go play WoW then.
Alternative comeback
You mean that thing WoW charges you $15 a month for? Because, you know, WoW charges you $15 a month for EVERYTHING.
(edited by Arkham Creed.7358)
My first thought; that’ is just begging for people to complain about grindy content.
My second thought; make the follow up tasks unlock several character levels down the line, thus providing more reason to go back to the low level zones, while at the same time preventing the above issue of people spending too long grinding the same zone in their first pass.
Agreed. When I was working on my cooking skill I had to create an alt just to hold the excess ingredients. That was a real pain.

Stuff like that needs some alternate way to obtain.
While I like the idea, why attach a gold/gem cost to it to implement or reset?
A secondary armor switchout (same as for weapon) plus add adjustable traits = problem solved. It would be easier to implement too.
As far as the gem price to activate this feature, I just felt that something like this was more likely to be implemented as a paid extra than a default feature. Besides it is hardly necessary, being ultimately nothing more than a convenience to those players that want it. And Arena Net did say that their gem store was designed around selling cosmetic and convenience items/features. They need to make money, and as far as micro-transactions go this is one more likely to be praised by the community than hated.
Now, as to the coin cost per-use, that is really just me playing it safe. You see the current trait respec system is an intended gold sink, and while the exact reason for it is up for debate, clearly Arena Net wanted it to cost a bit of coin each time you change your build, and likewise didn’t want you do be able to do it just anywhere. (I actually saw a suggested system allowing players to change builds while in combat. That will certainly never happen.) It is true that changing that system, especially for someone who paid real money to avoid it, may not have any negative impact on the game or its economy. But it is also true that it might have some disastrous effect somewhere down the line. And while players like us don’t need to think about such possibilities, I guarantee that Arena Net does.
So I felt it was better to have this still bound to the same restrictions as the current system. After all you would still have to run to a waypoint and pay a little pocket change. The only thing cut out is the wasted time of having to load a new area, run to a trainer, flip through menus and manually reset traits and skills, run back, and load back into the first zone. It is just a time saver really, and that is the essence of convenience.
While additional template pages are a convenience feature, the ability to swap builds between 2 or more templates is a power feature. It offers a lot of utility, even when limited to out-of-combat usage, as it makes forming dungeon groups more effective, allows builds with excellent disengage abilities to break off from a foe, change their build, and re-engage, and more. There’s no reason for the bare minimum of the feature to be monetized, but there is nothing wrong with selling extra pages.
Use League of Legends rune pages as an example.
That’s debatable, especially since stealth doesn’t reset aggro anymore. However either implementation would be fine, I think. I just don’t see us getting our first tab for free. Now if Arena Net was kind enough to offer the first tab for free that would be undeniably awesome. I just don’t see it happening.

Going to vote no on this one. I can see why it would be cool, but really it just doesn’t make any sense for some classes to wear the wrong kind of armor. For example I don’t think a warrior would try to tank while in a light silk robe, and how the heck is a thief supposed to sneak around while in heavy plate?
