Verdant Brink is not more demanding than Auric Basin ! Or at least it doesn’t seem that way. I get about 45 fps in most HoT areas which is a big less than I get in most of Central Tyria. Auric Basin, particularly Tarir with its overload of flowing water, particles, and Gods know what else violently murders my fps, dropping me to about 10-20fps if it’s feeling generous (though it is a bit better on the ground in the centre of the city). The 64bit client helped a tiny bit, but idk.

There is, in fact, an option to turn voices down or off, but it’s global. An option to toggle your personal ramblings would be okay, I guess. My sylvari talks a lot less than I remember, so I don’t have a problem with it. However, humans seem to be constantly babbling about centaurs and how awesome she is and I wish I could toggle humans :l

There is a seventh sphere in the “Eternal Alchemy”. I don’t remember what it was supposed to be, but the other dragons’ spheres orbit it.

Also, being responsible for or inadvertently (sometimes even voluntarily) teaming up with evil is VERY common in Guild Wars. Glint turning heel would be very strange thouh.

So, how would they deal with your three starting choices, including armour skins and pets? Say, if you didn’t have them unlocked elsewhere? Or your race-based story choices, skills, and armours? Or achievements tied to race and racial story quests? Paying to unlock skins, pets, and achievements now? Like I know games like FFXIV allow it, but race doesn’t factor into anything outside of a tiny arrangement stat points.

I can answer questions and play the game at the same time, thank you very much. In fact, I can help people who are playing the game while also playing the game. Making it so I basically have to stand around somewhere doing nothing to help people is pretty silly.

I see people asking about fights, locations, what to do here and there, etc. and being able to help them through encounters and stuff is nice. Having to stand there doing nothing while they die or while they do all the work or something would be very strange.

New Racial Voice Actors?

Astra Lux.2846

They still sound about the same, but it seems like dialog on the whole is a bit more fluid, natural and complete. There IS more urgency and variance in their tones. I don’t know how the pre-HoT voices were recorded, but it seemed like they recorded lines in conversations individually (? because you can skip them? I think?) for those two-characters-standing-in-front-of-a-backdrop cutscenes. Playing through the core GW2 story on my new sylvari, she does sound a little flatter, and certain never yells or anything as they do in HoT. I very much like how my sylvari woman sounds in HoT. It was jarring at first to have her talking so much while moving through the world vs. basically total silence outside of cutscenes, so maybe that is part of why it seems weird to some people. Love it.

Astra Lux.2846

I hope they do, because they are going to add more I assume. I guess we’d have to run the expedition again, but I assume the global upgrades would carry over, considering how you get them and that that’s how it worked for halls in Guild Wars (though many things and features did not carry over from GW1….) Idk about all the custom structures and such…just place them back into inventory/storage?). If we cannot change at all, I think that would suck.

Edit: Also regarding some of the equipment you can supposedly craft/gain recipes for, they are exclusive to each of the current halls I think?

HOT: What have we learned so far? Spoilers

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

1. Scarlet’s motivations and objectives outside of forcing Mordremoth to wake are as of yet unknown. People say she was Mordremoth’s first thrall because she looked into the Eternal Alchemy and presumably saw him and his connexion to the Sylvari and lost her mind or something. However, the story does seem to hint at maybe something else driving her to do what she did. Maybe she wanted to free the Sylvari after learning that they come from Modremoth.

2. In LS2 it was explained, if I am remembering right, that the ley lines are what the asura exploited for some of their magic and that they are a way for magic to flow through the world.

Hmm, on 3. It looks like when Modremoth was killed his energy/power was sent all over. I think when an elder dragon dies maybe the others get stronger? Modremoth was very significantly more powerful than Zhaitan despite only being awake for a very short time. Some of that energy from his death went into the egg, as we were shown, so I think whenever it does hatch it will be very strong.

For number 4 I think he is just really, really, really big. We never actually see him proper or fully.

Every time I start make progress in HoT something else gets broke. My main character is still stuck on the first mission. Almost a week and two tickets later but still no fixes… Why?

All I wanted to do was to play with my friends on day one and experience the game along side them. Sadly when progress is blocked, it becomes impossible to keep up. By the time I get to play the content, everybody I know will be bored and the maps will be empty.

I have friends on my list that have over 50 mastery and I am stuck at 9 because of all the bugs…Next time I am just going to wait it out.

This has been by far the worst xpac experience I ever had by far.

This must be the only xpac experience you’ve ever had if you’re upset about bugs in the first two weeks.

Yeah, I’m actually very impressed by the dearth of major issues with the HoT launch.

Healing Spring, Pet heal, Spirit of Nature and…
That’s it. That is literally the only ally healing the ranger has outside of Druid traitline.

That’s incorrect.

You’re also missing information with regards to druid traits that synergize with and bolster these base healing skills you mention, which is another point of synergy beyond the one idea I already mentioned.

So, hey. Thanks for that.

Are people still struggling to see the problem with Druid? It has absolutely no synergy with the ranger. It might as well be it’s own class it’s so out there.

If you can’t find synergy with two trait lines or make the connection that I made for you with three in the druid, I can’t help you.

I doubt anyone else can for that matter.

I’m not going to think for you and I don’t have the patience nor the desire to convince you of something you’ve already decided for yourself.

MetaBattle will get you up to speed in time.

Alright Einstein, list me other ally healing abilities rangers have. Go on, list all of them, I wanna see the ally healing the ranger has. After all, Druid benefits from HEALING and healing allies, not boons. So might, protection, fury and what not will not help the Druid.

And please, list 1 Druid trait that goes great with a Ranger trait.
Keep in mind I said great, increasing the stun duration you get from swapping into staff is far from ‘great’.

Covering your incompetence by saying, “I don’t have time for you” will not save you from being terribly wrong.

Adept: Druidic Clarity- condi cleanse that removes ALL conditions upon F5 (which fills from damaging foes too)

Master:
Natural Stride- Reduces the duration of movement-impairing conditions. Your movement speed is increased as long as you have none of these conditions
Verdant Etching- Reduces recharge of glyphs. Activating a glyph skills plants a seed.

Grandmaster:
Ancient Seeds- Striking a stunned, dazed, knocked down, or launched foe summons roots to entangle them
Grace of the Land- While you are a celestial avatar, your allies gain reduced incoming condition damage.

This all seem like they would be really easy to incorporate into non-healing builds and don’t have anything to do with the staff. I’m not seeing the major problem here.

The major problem is the ranger already has similar survivability in other places.

So taking Druid reduces your overall damage and nets you the same results.

Grace of the land is inferior to Empathic Bond.
Natural Stride is inferior to Lightning Reflexes.
Verdant Etching… how is that helpful for rangers? It’s a delay condition and heal. Real great for trying to stay mobile.
Ancient Seeds is inferior to Entanglement.

The best way for those traits to be helpful for the ranger would be go a healing Druid, period.

Lets not forget, now, this is definitely subject to change but healing an ally charges the avatar form by 2.5%
How much from damaging a foe? 0.5%

So yeah, Druidic Clarity, REAL HELPFUL, get that heavy condition removal from damage alone? Good luck.

Wait, do we actually know this rate at which celestial form builds up from damage and healing? I might’ve missed it. And why are we comparing traits to skills? I think the conditional permaspeed is good. How is Entangle better than Ancient Seed when AS is the same thing on a 10s cooldown, coupled with several skills old and new that can place the requirement more frequently than every 60 seconds? I only put Verdant for the recharge on glyphs. Which aren’t healing based skills (aside from the 6)

Other than Moment of Clarity -Predator’s Onslaught- Hidden Barbs- Light on Your Feet- Ancient Seeds (+Glyph of Equality/Concussion Shot/Hilt Bash/Stone Spirit/Pink Moa/Black Moa/canines/wyverns/pigs) there are a few others I can see, but it does focus on healing, yeah. There’s more to the spec than just traits though (i.e. glyphs)

Now that we've seen (part of) Mordremoth...

I was actually a bit surprised to hear him speak, and very clearly at that. Granted, we know the dragons are intelligent and capable of speech. Zhaitan was probably too rotten or wasn’t interested in taunting us (and at the point where we meet him he is weakened and probably in WTFWTFWTFWTF panic mode).

Actually, I think that goes against what we’re supposed to know about them so far. Until now, they’ve been shown as more animalistic, just raw forces of nature and destruction. With Zhaitan, it was his underlings that were smart and thought for him, which is part of the reason why he was able to be taken down like that at the end. We didn’t just starve him, we lobotomized him by cutting him off from his smart minions.

Mordremoth is the dragon of mind, though, and he may be able to think for himself more than the others can. If he gains the knowledge of any sylvari he corrupts, then he’ll know all about us and the world at large already. I’m sure he’ll want to exchange a few words with the people that killed Zhaitan, and be smart enough to use an avatar when he does so.

Hmm, you’re right. I was just thinking of Glint, but she was tampered with by the Forgotten iirc and is also just a champion.

Glint was a dragon, not an elder dragon.

Yes, that’s why I wrote “just a champion” after I was corrected.

Hmm, you’re right. I was just thinking of Glint, but she was tampered with by the Forgotten iirc and is also just a champion.

I believe the thing thing that was being built was the Mordrem Guard itself….and at the end, that is definitely Elder Dragon huge. They even cut back to a wide view to give you the scale of how big Mordremoth actually is….Rytlock and Co. looked like ants in that view.

I believe we only saw part of mordey though because you can see a “talon” crushing a rock but the part of mordey we see at the end has no talons.

I don’t think it’s the guard being built. The construct in the cave has the same sinewy appearance and a similar face to the one that stares down Rytlock (they may not be the same) while the guard has a plated, boney look and teeth. I do agree that we haven’t seen Mordy proper. You get a glimpse of what appears to be a wing-like structure in the cave, along with him breaking the rock, though.

It appears to be his avatar (you can see him build it before they cut to the M. Guard). Based on the avatar’s looks, I am pretty excited. It’s very big and intimidating and I like the purple glow.

I like everything about Mordremoth more than anything about Zhaitan. He was the least interesting of all of the Elder Dragons to me.

The whole lore surrounding druids highlights the fact that they were extremely secretive and then disappeared for hundreds of years. Who’s to say one or more didn’t learn more or transcend or whatever? Nature isn’t just plants. They voluntarily abandoned their physical form and I don’t remember reading anything about them HAVING to take the form of tree spirits. Obviously our characters aren’t going to totally abandon their bodies so that may also factor in as well.

Keep in mind that since this is a multiracial game where generally none of them share beliefs or customs or religions. I assume this is why professions that are explicitly human-centric were avoided or adapted to be more universal. Maybe there will be new lore that depicts the origins of this type of druid.

This really should have been like the map-wide events in Dry Top and the Silverwastes. Especially with that counter keeping track of incursions defeated. I haven’t read everything here, but I’m sure rewards have been mentioned a lot, particularly the fact that doing these events frequently results in a loss for the player. I may not be able to do the next two days of these incursions so I’m out of luck for the time being regarding any of the more expensive rewards. Which is fine, but I tried to do as many as I could and walked away not being able to buy anything but boxes of junk and I’m sure that’s true for many players who may have hoped for more.

I really like the idea of these incursions, but this just seemed like a bewildering step backwards in terms of fun factor and rewarding play.

I guess this is a suggestion, but if this is the correct place to put it. I think new players/accounts should have a temporary icon on their nameplates to make it easier to identify people who may need help. I know a few MMOs do this (usually it’s a little sprout icon), but I don’t know if it is something planned here, maybe for that mentor mastery (which I am super looking forward to!), or is the mentor mastery badge would be sufficient. Just a thought though.

I would rather have it as an exclusive. There are a TONNE of things people who didn’t play consistently since launch have missed out on. But, I mean…they weren’t here. I think of it like the Guild Wars legacy rewards. It was something that you worked for, but also a nice throw back/send off sort of thing. Guild Wars is a fairly dynamic experience, things change, things evolve and come and go. If it becomes purchasable or something in the future it’s gonna feel a kitteneap.
