Welcome to new player experience, where things are level-gated.
Skill challenges should open up at level 13 though:

I approve. The hunched over hump back posture and the clipping are the two biggest reasons I’ve deleted every charr that I’ve ever rolled.
Silly me, I always got the idea that sexy for a female charr is when she looks like she could carve someone into pieces, as opposed to wearing a very human cliche of lace and a corset.
Of course, more options for all races are great. Especially if they don’t clip.
The flickering effect they are using to mimmick old movies was well known for causing headaches when it was common, decades ago. Learning a bit of History is a good thing, especially when trying to mock other people’s opinions.
What flickering effect? I didn’t see it when I was in game. I spent a good 20 minutes running around and the only thing I noticed was my character’s arms were out and made airplane noises. Also I’d like to see you provide sources from peer reviewed journals that prove what you are saying.
Just to point out, there definitely is a flickering effect, combined with a sepia tone, to give it an old-time movie effect. However, it can be eliminated by turning off post processing in the options.
Odd I never saw it. Maybe because I was playing on a Mac. When I went in game all I saw was my character with arms stretched out. There was no flicker. I suppose this is one very rare case where playing on Mac was a benefit.
lol! I have one computer with the setting on high and got the full flickery, sepia effect. Another computer had the setting on low, so there was full color but a subtle flicker. Changing the setting to None eliminates the flicker and has it in full color.
There are no peer reviewed journals needed. I had to log out for the night because it was making me dizzy and giving me a headache and eyestrain within a few minutes. Not everyone’s eyes can handle effects the same way.
Options, Graphics, set Postprocessing to None

So annoying that I’m sitting with my main having just completed Romke’s Final Voyage and not yet done Source of Orr. I quit the personal story because it had turned into a confusing, buggy mess. Without a reset, my choices are to play through the rest of the mess, stop and get bumped to the end when it goes live and miss content, or reroll my main/play through it on an alt?
I’m happy you’re fixing it, but disappointed that there’s no appealing option for those of us who are at the wrong place in the chapters.
Further info:
I can reproduce the 2nd incident. I just went to Ascalon on the same level 80 human for the daily forager. From Lion’s Arch portal in Black Citadel, I went to the Vir’s Gate wp. I logged out and immediately logged back in. I was halfway between Smokestead and the entrance to Black Citadel.
I have not been able to reproduce incident #4 with the norn and Shelter Rock.

I’ve had this happen in the past 2-3 days with 3 different characters, 2 different accounts, 4 different occasions that I’ve noticed. Maybe it’s happened more, and I didn’t notice. I’ve reported in game, but was wondering if anyone else is having the issues and wanted to provide more detail. Three of the times had some similarities.
First time, I crashed in the pvp lobby and immediately logged back in to returned to Lion’s Arch in a noticeably different location. I don’t recall where, but it was an area that character doesn’t really go to. I dismissed this as just a fluke.
Second time was a different character (level 80 human). I was doing gathering/exploration of Ascalon to the the SE of Vir’s Gate wp. I logged out and then logged back in after a little later and was between Smokestead wp and the portal to Black Citadel.
Third time was the same character as the second incident. I was doing Fields of Ruin events and logged out at Summit Peak. I logged back in an hour later to find my character at the Stronghold of Ebonhawke by the portal to Divinity’s Reach. I’ve never been to that area with the character and my map still shows unexplored area between there and my farthest FoR exploration.
Fourth time was on a different account (level 8ish Norn). I used the Shelter Rock waypoint to leave the end of the Shaman’s Rookery jp. I logged out and logged back in about a half an hour later. My character was at the eastern wp in Hoelbrak right in front of the portal to go to Wayfarer Foothills.
One thing I noticed is that in the latest 3 incidents, the characters were in front of closest portals that were marked as taking them closer to their personal story instance. Perhaps just coincidence, but wanted to note that. Also, I should note that no one else has access to my account and incidents occurred when I was at the computer or my entire family was together, and there are no signs of hacking
I’m also including the FoR map screen capture, since I couldn’t figure out a way to do that with the bug report in game.
Edit to add: It’s not happening all the time. I’d guess I’ve logged in and out of at least 9 different characters on two accounts at least 40 times in the past couple of days and have only noticed these 4 incidents, two of which occurred Sunday evening. The other two occurred Friday or Saturday.

Thank you for the information! Glad it’s a mistake and not intended.
This change also impacted the cultural armor vendors. I enjoy viewing cultural armor on a character before I roll a new alt, particularly if I happen to have all character slots full at the time and am considering deleting a character or buying a new slot. I would like the ability to at least view all options.
Yes, people can patch. I’m in game and have been in for a bit. There are plenty of folks in Divinity’s Reach.
If you don’t like reacting, then I think a high durability profession like warrior is your best bet.

Add me to the list of players who, for the most part, dislike NPE. I have had one account since release and recently added another account with the sale (more character slots for a bargain price). I find the lockout from basic skills and content makes the experience of leveling a new character to be boring and grindy. Instead of enjoying content and exploring, I feel like I should rush my way through the beginning levels of a new character just so I can unlock dyes, vistas, and basic skills. Please fix the design in a manner that will allow players to turn off NPE. It’s not as terrible on my old account where I have level 20 scrolls and tomes sitting around, but it’s downright painful on the second account or if the day comes that I buy enough character slots on my original account that I run out of leveling aids.
1,1,1,1,1,1 yawns. Oh, I gained a level! I wonder what Nanny Game will let me do now? 1,2,1,2 sigh
Things I like:
Not having to grind out each weapon for skills. I remember this being very tedious on my elementalist for each weapon & attunement. However, I did like that I had the ability to gain access to skills faster.
The content guide compass that direct you to new content. It’s helpful at times when I can’t find that one item I missed for completion of an area.
The level rewards can be a gratifying experience.
Things I dislike:
Pretty much everything else, but particularly all the gated content that really doesn’t seem necessary to gate, such as dyes, wardrobe, hiding map content, personal story, downed state, weapon swapping, underwater combat, and other content that doesn’t require hand holding for someone who has played GW2, or almost any game, for that matter.
The previous way felt organic and natural. You could explore, gain skills at a faster pace if you wanted to use them earlier, follow the beginning personal story when you were the same level as the area where it takes place, and access basic features. Gaining profession-defining traits wasn’t about doing some ridiculous mission or grinding out skill points and gold to be able to purchase them. The current system feels overly simplified and frustrating for experienced players, yet doesn’t seem to add good in-game information about how traits, combo fields, or things that are far more confusing to new players work than using dyes or accessing a vista. Additionally, much of the info comes very late in the leveling process and is very brief and easily overlooked by players just clicking the pop up to get it off the screen. How about instead of focusing on telling someone how the bank works at level 9, you tell them at level 1 what those big red circles on the ground mean when they fight Issormir? I guess that may be too much when you assume that any player with a level 1 character needs a popup that explains movement and isn’t capable of doing anything more than pressing “1” and letting autoattack take over. Such a waste of an opportunity to actually teach a new player how to use their basic skills or combat principles.
I would like to see a lot of the level-gated features come off, the trait system reworked, the personal story fixed so that it flows naturally and isn’t full of problems at later levels, and a solid tutorial or tips that can be toggled off.
My advice to people who are interested in playing the restored Personal Story (which will include the Greatest Fear steps, original chapter 8 ordering, and various minor text and VO updates) is to not complete A Light in the Darkness (in chapter 6). That way you’ll be able to play the restored content in its entirety when it goes live.
We’re currently discussing release dates and will share that information when we’re able. Thanks again for all your great suggestions and patience.
I certainly hope that there will be an option for those who have passed this point to restore & replay the corrected story. I bought GW2 at launch, but spent most of my time exploring low level content and creating characters until taking a break from the game for a year or two. I had no idea that the personal story changed during that time period.
I came back to the game in December and leveled my main to 80. I played through the personal story until just past the Battle for Fort Trinity. At the point of A Light in the Darkness, the story got buggy and bad and confusing. So, I stopped right at the point where I’d stepped on an airship ramp, ended up at a beach, and had to kill some pirate ghosts. The personal story had become so unsatisfying at that point, I stopped doing anything with it.
Although I have alts that I can hold off on the personal story in order to play through, it’s sad to know that my main might not be able to complete a coherent and corrected story simply because I’ve gone a few steps too far.
Well, look at some traditional surnames of European descent…
Miller, Smith, Fletcher, Cooper, Mason, Cook, Hunter (professions)
Johnson, Jackson, Wilson (son of x)
Green, Brown, White, Gray (colors)
Hill, Brooks, Reed, Wood, Rivers, Stone, Bush (natural features)
Names have often been drawn from the things associated with someone’s daily life. Why is it so hard to imagine that a plant based culture might have plant-based surnames or first names? They live in nature and it would be part of their daily lives. It makes sense that some might take names derived from it.
I would like this as an option for town clothes/non combat clothing. Alternately, a LOT more town clothing options and make them able to be dyed. I want the option for my medium or heavy armor wearing female to put on something that looks more like a dress or even a nice blouse & pants when she’s not out fighting.
