I like crafting. I do lots of Teq because I enjoy it, but I’ve never seen an ascended drop for me. I don’t have any real need to get ascended gear, but I have 2 crafts maxed and 3 more within a handful of points from 500. Two more crafting disciplines are at the halfway point and on hold until I decide to level that character. I never felt like I had to level them, but just did it because I like the discovery system and the XP gain. I haven’t found it to be a big deal, although I do wish there was more potential to earn gold at max level crafting. I play very casually and have never felt like the cost to level crafting was a huge burden, although I suppose I’d have a lot more money if I didn’t level them. I don’t feel obligated to level up crafting either. Perhaps if I wanted to raid or do high level fractals, I might feel that pressure, but I think exotics are fine to get you through most content, particularly when supplementing with ascended laurel gear.

Crafting was best in UO, where it was possible to play as a crafter, including running your own shop. GW2’s crafting is alright, but there’s room for improvement.

Former WoW player here that mostly played a resto druid main. I enjoy the button pushiness of elementalist with the attunements. To me, it’s reminiscent of dancing through druid forms and has come closest to satisfying that urge for me. I’ve only messed around a little on revenant and it was okay. I didn’t feel like there was as much choice & flexibility, but I think it’s the heavy armor class that gets closest to the mechanical feel of a WoW druid.

I haven’t played druid, but ranger is alright. It probably has the closest thematic feel to a druid imo. Some of the ranger animations can be fun and it always seems to have that “Wheee! Let’s go!” feel that I would get when playing druid in WoW.

Edit: Just noticed you played feral most often. Revenant or a charr thief might be a good option.

how about give all HoT players 50 slot bag

Hey I had an idea. Why not give all HoT owners, a single 50 slot bag to go into one of our bag slots?
This could help with the lack of inventory.

lol! There’s no way they’d give bigger bags to anyone for free. If they introduced them, they’d either be in the cash shop or a “legendary journey” that was a huge materials and time sink.

1.It wouldn’t be free but rather be packaged with the game.

2.I think they should be here but not “given” but rather manufactured like other bags. A sample recipe could be as follows:

2 Superior runes of holding
2 Elonian leather squares
1.Bolt of Damask

They can’t even give a free character slot with the base xpac unless it was a pre-purchase.

I know, ITA.

The bundles should be an option, for those who want everything (or most things) in them, but not the only option.

Uh… really? Hasn’t work for me any other time; I’ll need to try it again when I get home. I’ve also never seen anyone in an outfit minus the helmet, but maybe I just haven’t been paying enough attention.

Yeah, they toggle off.

I pretty much never show helm with outfits.

Most of them look better without them, IMO.

Several people are using the word “forced” here. No one is “forcing” you to do anything. The items aren’t something you need and no one is holding a gun to your head and telling you to buy the bundle. Yes, it’s a crappy business tactic, but let’s not be overly dramatic. If you don’t want to buy the bundle, then don’t buy the bundle. At least you aren’t being penalized for not purchasing.

They don’t mean “forced” in the sense of having no option whether to buy the bundle, or not.

They just mean that, if they wanted to buy object a) they would be forced to also buy objects b), c) and d).

Which is true and is a correct usage of the word “forced”.

You could substitute the word “obliged”, for the word “forced”, there, if it makes you feel any better; but it all means the same, in the end.

I really think people need to be a little less literal, on these forums.

Words, in English, are often quite fluid and can mean, or imply, many different things and/or or levels of things.

If someone is just sitting there Googling word meanings and taking a word to only mean meaning number 1, all the time, of course people may look like they’re being overly melodramatic.

But, that isn’t how the English language works.

Thank YOU for the lecture on how the English language works. I’m well aware of how it does and have made a living off it for a very long time. Perhaps I should break it down for you, since you seem to have missed the point.

No one is being forced, whether literally or figuratively, because they hold all the power in this scenario. As a consumer, they can buy it or not buy it.

As someone previously said, “It is your perception that this is forced they are counting on.”

Being forced or other such terms imply that the consumer is a powerless, hapless victim who must just go along with it. Not only is English fluid, it’s also powerful, and the appropriate choices can make a difference in perception. There is no obligation or being forced to buy. There is choice, and in that choice, the consumer has far more power to change Anet’s practices.

This is what bothers me. I don’t want Spirit Vale or Pro League appearing in my personal story/dailies list on the right side. It’s not content I want to do, so why not be able to disable or hide it?

What type of rewards? Gear and weapons?

Gear, weapons, recipes, materials, raids in specific, different events, different playstyles, etc.

Try looking up Auric weapon skins for example. Anet really upgraded their designing

And what good are Auric weapons and raids for a non-max level character? The OP asked what was in HoT for new/leveling characters. Other than access to revenant and some guild features, HoT content is pretty much for max level.

Hi playerbase. Lets have a discussion on Inventory in GW2. Are you satisfied with it?

Do you want it improved? If so how?

Should more inventory be added or no?

Could there be any balance issues from increasing inventory?

Too much clicking. Too much inventory management. Those are my complaints. I find managing all the junk with the clicks involved in accepting the loot, opening containers, selling & salvaging to be far more irritating than the amount of space.

My other complaint is the amount of things without a spot in the wallet or materials storage.

Turn down the difficulty for Casual Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Auralae.7482

Auralae.7482

The problem isnt anet not catering to casuals, the problem is casuals demanding ever aspect of the game to cater to them. For 3 years pretty much all content has been catered to casuals and the hardcore players never got content catered to them. Now that anet is adding content for hardcore players a whole horde of casuals are demanding it be tuned to them when it wasnt for them in the first place.
Not every single game mode has to appeal and be catered to every single player. There is plenty if content for casual players, but not everything needs to be. Let the hardcore have their parts of the game and leave it alone.

I agree. Not every game mode should. My only issue is that so much of HoT upped the time or group requirements while simultaneously nerfing other traditionally casual content or making traditionally casual content, such as map exploration or hero points, harder. In fact, I’ve got no issue with HoT being for those interested in harder and larger group content. I’ve got an issue when the expansion becomes a sort of requirement to get even when that’s not a player’s interest. Imo, keep raids & high level fractals challenging, dungeons casual and rewarding enough to merit people wanting to do them, and map exploration or things required for basic character progression casual & soloable for all players (including those who may have disabilities or lower ability).

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Auralae.7482

Auralae.7482

@PopeUrban: That argument is very tired. I could make banners two weeks ago. Now I cannot. I’m done with this as far as you’re concerned.

Yes. You can. Walk in to the guild initiative. Talk to the NPC. You now have a banner for favor.

Which NPC would that be? The Guild Requisitioner? He gives a message “This content has been temporarily disabled. Try again later.”

Then try again later?

Last two times I spoke with him he worked fine.

Complaining that the NPC is down for an adjustment is not the same as claiming “all my ability to use my old unlocks is gone forever”

And, honestly, every single post that parrots the same false assertion, that people can’t use their upgrades, has the same problem.

Sure, be upset that your access is temporarily suspended That’s a legitimate complaint and I agree with you. I’d like to know why he got temporarily disabled as I’ve used him as a source for banners while that horribly untested scribe is missing key components to actually produce banners. (Which, incidentally, is a far larger issue that actually blocks a production method for several things including tactics and decorations in addition to banners.)

However, this is just like when they temp disabled karma vendors or various other things. It’s as likely he’s being rewords to be even cheaper as it is he’s headed for the scrap heap. They didn’t go to the trouble of adding the NPC just to delete him a week later.

Using a temporary outage as a justification to rage against the entire system is just plain short sighted and silly.

What makes you think that I haven’t tried multiple times over different days? I have yet to see him working. There is a Reddit thread from 11 days ago asking why he’s disabled. The wiki previously listed the options he gives as having the disabled message. Now, the wiki simply lists nothing and he is still disabled.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Requisitioner

I have yet to see proof that banners and other previously attainable consumables are still available to a guild without needing HoT for the guildmaster. If there are non-HoT guildleaders without guild halls who have been able to access the requisitioner, I hope they post so I can figure out why I can not.

You are correct that the vendor is currently down.

However I personally used him the first two mission cycles after launch for banners. 10% XP/karma banners specifically. No, I did not personally attempt to buy one of every unlock as at that point I didn’t have the favor to burn and simply assumed it all worked just as well as the thing I did buy.

Until a red name posts that he is headed for the scrap yard, there’s no reason to assume that its anything more than a temporary outage born of some exploit. There are quite a few other things they disabled temporarily due to discovered exploits.

If your argument is, literally that this functionality doesn’t exist and never existed, I’ll say again that’s a very different thing than being upset it has been offline for an unreasonably long time.

For the record I agree with you. It has been offline for an unreasonably long time. I have excess favor piling up, I’d also like to use it like I had been previously, and I’ll be just as upset as you are if the vendor in question is in fact permanently removed.

Right, but my understanding is you own HoT, since you mentioned something about your guild hall. I said for non-HoT users. I thought my statement was pretty clear about that. I wasn’t making “an argument.” I’m asking if anyone who does not own HoT has been able to access the requisitioner to get banners. If you do not own HoT, sorry for that assumption and could you confirm whether you are HoT or non-HoT?

I’m just trying to find out if this functionality ever did work for those guildleaders who have not purchased HoT.

Ah, that’s something I couldn’t verify for you as I had preordered HoT, and thus never walked in to the building before HoT release.

I do know he’s present in the guild initiative, and everything in there with the notable exception of the expedition npcs (for obvious reasons) works without HoT though. I’d be interested (and kinda kittened) if the NPC they built specifically so that guilds had access to their old upgrades before getting a guild hall didn’t work for people who couldn’t actually claim one.

Be a pretty dumb NPC in that case for sure.

Yeah. Just hoping someone would know. I mean, when he comes back up, I can work around it by passing leadership or getting the right permissions to one of my family members (3/5 of our accounts are HoT), but still annoying and I get kitteny on principle about functionality taken away and tied to an xpac.

Maybe this would help to clarify this…

Guild Halls

  • The Guild Initiative Headquarters in Lion’s Arch is now open to guilds.
    • Have a ranking member of your guild with the Purchase Upgrades permission speak to the guild registrar to unlock your grandfathered upgrades in the new progression. You’ll also be rewarded with one or more guild hall decorations to commemorate your mastery of the old guild system.
  • Guild upgrades* *are now purchased from proprietors—special NPCs in the Guild Initiative Headquarters and in guild halls. Speak with the notary at the Guild Initiative Headquarters to start purchasing new upgrades.
    • Influence has been retired but can still be spent at certain vendors in the Guild Initiative Headquarters and in the guild hall to give a small boost to progress through the new guild system.

Although it’s mentioned under Guild Halls section it says the NPCs will be available at Lion’s Arch too. It doesn’t explain why the NPC is currently disabled but it shows that theose NPCs were supposed to be used for purchasing upgrades.

About it being available to those with HoT or not… well, I don’t see a reason for having them also at Lion’s Arch other than making it accessible for those with no Guild Halls, either due not claiming one or not being able to claim one (not owning HoT). I think it makes clear that those NPCs was supposed to be used for those not owning HoT too.

However, that patch notes aren’t clear about what requires HoT and what doesn’t. I can’t state for sure if the first time I interacted with those NPC was before I got HoT, but I can state that I could use them normally the first time I interacted with them, that was a few days after HoT came out and I didn’t pre-purchase HoT.

Thanks. I need to check again since this most recent patch to see if maybe things are working. Several weeks ago, I did speak to the NPC outside to unlock and set up the guild level and get entry to the hall and have checked every NPC inside multiple times.

I really hope this functionality is working now or will be working soon. I don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t be available to non-HoT users either. I’m just concerned because I haven’t seen anyone without HoT post that they were able to access back when it was working.

Feedback on Raid

I hate the raid !

TOO HARD FOR CASUAL PLAYERS !!!!

I don’t really care about all you Hardcore “Give me more pain. Beat me Beat me, Yes Sir may I have another” players.

My guildies and I stop playing HoT after story because it was too hard.

We now tried several times with raids and the same. TOO HARD !!!

Everyone is back in Tyria farming for precursor crafting.

ANET ! Stop listening to Hardcore players !

You have more Casual players in the game than Hardcore players !

Turn down the difficulty !

I’m a casual player and I think it’s good for raids to be challenging, as long as it doesn’t create the same sort of gear progression that has occurred in some games that effectively creates a barrier to entry as more raids are created/progress.

Now, I do think that open world content that is part of character progression or map completion should be soloable and approachable for casual players or players with less ability. And, of course, it would be nice if more casual or easier content, such as dungeons or fractals, were still viable and had decent rewards so that there were options that aren’t raids or high level fractals.

Hi,

I bought Guild Wars a few months ago but didn’t played much… I decided to give it a try.

Do you think I should buy the new expansion? Does it have contente for levelling players or just for end game?

Thanks ^^

Unless you want to play a revenant or remove some of the restrictions that they put in for people who don’t have HoT (access to guild boons, scribe etc), there’s really not reason to buy HoT if you aren’t max level. Heck, I have multiple max level characters and don’t feel there’s enough content of interest in it for me at this time because I play infrequently, solo, and casually. I still have plenty of original content to work through in spite of playing since early release.

Manipulative attempt to get more money, and one that lumps people who’ve hundreds on the game in the same category as someone who has spent nothing. Some people just aren’t interested in HoT content right now. I’m one of them and, frankly, I’m annoyed at some of the things they did to try and push people into buying HoT. Maybe I’ll pick it up some day, but I have other content in game that keeps me busy and would rather spend my cash on gemstore convenience items right now rather than the xpac. The rest of my family (who make up 3/5 of my guild) has bought HoT because content in it interested them. I’ve given as much money to Anet, but lose out just because it’s not being spent on the right thing. Honestly, it sucks.

Wouldn’t that be the same as completely transferable account bound bags, and for only 400 gems per bag?

Example. I buy 4 gem store bags. I put them on my main for the day. At the end of the day, I lock the slots. The next day I unlock the slots on whatever char I plan to play that day. In fact, I could do that whenever I switch during a play period, if I don’t mind switching inventory around.

Why would ANet allow this without some sort of hefty charge?

Put a timer on it.

Even with a timer it’s still an added convenience for your original 400 gems for the non transferable bag slots. I can’t see them doing it without an additional charge. Probably a substantial one.

Of course they WON’T. Let’s face it, they won’t do anything that doesn’t involve the possibility of more money.

Why Would Anyone Buy Black Lion Keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Auralae.7482

Auralae.7482

Ah, someone who feels the same way I do about it. Even there is technically no “real” monetary reward, you can pay real money to buy the keys. So it’s kind of a legal loophole and is most definitely gambling in the psychological sense. It’s rather sad to me that games can get away with this sort of thing, under the umbrella excuse “virtual” and “game.” It’s definitely ethically questionable when real money can be involved.

I imagine the only reason they don’t get slapped on the wrist for it is because it’s not possible for real money to exit the system – only to enter it – so the government couldn’t give two hoots about it.

Somehow the people who design these systems are ok with living with them. They probably sit there and reassure themselves that no one is actually wasting important money on key gambling, while some exec gets the brunt of the profit from it.

The dark side of game design… not fun to talk about or acknowledge, but it’s there.

Slight over dramatization me thinks.

As long as it’s a choice to take part or not the game devs should lose no sleep over it. I can’t see people not feeding their children or losing their house because they spent all their money on BL keys in GW2.

RL gambling is a huge issue but the rewards are RL money. In this format it’s supplementary income to help keep the game running in reward for niche in-game shinies.

Big difference.

It doesn’t matter whether the rewards are RL money or a permanent contract or tickets for a skin, they all use the same principles of operant conditioning to get people to spend money. The distinction for you is that the reward of RL cash is a higher value secondary reinforcer. It might not be for others. What’s highly positive reinforcement for one can be low reinforcement or even negative for others. Regardless, the psychology of a slot machine, lottery ticket, or black lion chest keys is the same.

We need a reduction of visual clutter, but simply killing the beautiful visual effects of all the skills is the wrong way to go about it.

Arenanet needs to go the same route they did with culling and devote real time and engineering resources to a robust solution that doesn’t simply “dumb down” the beautiful hand crafted visuals they worked so hard on.

Just a series of checkboxes would be fine.

  • Enemy Simple Effects
  • Ally Simple Effects
  • Self Simple Effects

Shouldn’t be as difficult to work up as a slider, and would do the trick. You could just toggle them depending on the content you’re doing, and have the option of always getting the best visual feedback on your own skills.

Agree.

I can live with the smaller fireball animation on my main, but I’m not happy about it. At times, it’s not even visible at all. I’d much rather have the option to change settings so I can see it while not negatively impacting others.

I don’t find bag slot prices unreasonable. Some of the other gem store items, on the other hand, seem high to me. Black lion keys and outfits, for example. I think the tools are also a bit overpriced since they are by character and material type. $5 for an additional bag slot on a character seems fair.

I don’t know that I agree with any of the OP’s suggestion, but I do think it would be nice if there was a way for characters above a certain level to get key waypoints, particularly when there are people with several 80’s, experience scrolls, and stacks of tomes sitting around.

Guild boon disabled for non-HoT players

They absolutely value you less as a customer when you decide to stop being a customer. I understand how that’s a problem for people.

Except just because you choose not to buy HoT doesn’t mean you aren’t a customer. Anet got more of my money just this week with the latest gem shop sale. I fail to see why the money I’ve spent on character slots, skins, and even extra accounts holds less value or makes me less of a customer than if I put that same money toward HoT. If anything, they should like me more. I still happily play through old content, am on less, and demand fewer new shinies or content than most, but still give them cash-monies. It sucks to be considered a non-customer simply because I prefer to spend cash on buying quaggan backpacks to gift instead of romping through Maguuma.

Guild Buffs for F2P

not only disabled for F2P but also for Paid core game

see thread :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-boon-disabled-for-non-HoT-players/5723332

In their (ArenaNet) eyes the paid core game no longer exists save for a few less restrictions. If you aren’t a HoT player then you are playing the game for Free.

This is blatantly obvious by all the changes to the core game.

Which is just stupid of them imo. I bought the original game. I have purchased through gem shop many times. I just don’t care to buy HoT for my accounts right now because there’s not much in it of interest to me. I am a casual player and still find plenty to occupy my time in Tyria. If I’m going to spend $50, I’m going to spend it in the gem shop to get things I want more. It’s annoying being treated like a second class citizen when I’ve given Anet more money than some people who own HoT.

Promotion on gemstore

Hi everyone.
Apologies if there is a thread like this already, but i went to the second page and didnt see any with a title implying promotions.
There are promotions (20% off) going at the moment on the gemstore with a bunch of items (many i expected during the acutal hyped promotion) such as armors, outifts, skins, etc.
Oh and the earmuffs are back, only 20 gems :p

Bought some earmuffs today when I saw that price and looking at some other things too. I wish you could send the earmuffs as a gift and I’d pick up more.
