Hey guys. So first off I want to apologize for keeping people in the dark. I have been speaking with a lot of people over the past few days to see what we could change considering the limited time span, and I didn’t want to say anything without being 100% sure this is the way we were going to take it. With that here is exactly how things are going to go down:

  • The brackets for each region will have 64 teams
  • Up to 8 of these slots will be reserved on each region. When we release the teams that will be chosen (on the 15th) I will be saying exactly who these teams are and why they were given those slots.
  • The other 56+ slots will be chosen randomly among teams that have full rosters submitted by the signup’s closing date (Please keep in mind that you can still add/edit your roster by emailing me at john@mistpedia.net). Teams that are chosen via this process will receive an email from myself on Tuesday, these will act as a way for teams to RSVP for the event. Teams will have until 9PM EDT on April 17th to respond with a confirmation of their participation, if they do not respond teams will be added from the backlog, so there is still a chance for teams to get in if we have a lack of a response or a declined invitation from a team that was initially chosen.
  • The brackets will be seeded manually by Mistpedia staff.

To ensure 100% validity of the randomization process I will be streaming Monday night after the signups close with the selection process, so if you would like to find out early if your team will be playing you will be able to tune in on my stream when I do this on Monday night (ill post an actual time once I know my own schedule for Monday night)

ArenaNet will be talking a little bit more about this on the next episode of Ready Up, so if you guys still have any unanswered questions or concerns feel free to tune in on there, and as always if you guys have anything you would like addressed personally you can send me a tell in game or email me. Thanks again for your patience in waiting for this response.

As well just to keep people in the loop here are the current signup stats:

  • 194 Full Teams (I still have to check for uniqueness on these so possibly minus out 5-10 teams from that)
  • 33 Partial Teams

Thinking ahead, I really do think the number of entrants is a “good problem” to have, but obviously it calls for some sort of contingency plan.

I absolutely agree. The issue of having too many teams has yet to happen in a guild wars 2 tournament, and while its certainly a great thing (that it’s happening), one of the biggest things ill be taking away from this event is how to handle a scenario such as this. While I was certainly expecting a lot of teams to sign up for this, it blew my mind that we saw over 100 submissions in the first 24 hours. This is easily going to be the largest project I’ve taken the helm of in virtually my entire lifespan so its very exciting and frightening to me at the same time, but I am extremely committed to this event, and will try to do whatever it takes to make it a success.

Ok I am very scared of this “randomization” thing Blu mentioned… my team was recently put together and hasn’t participated in any previous events, yet we are expecting to seriously compete in this competition. If we don’t get in the tourny after a month of work due to pulling the short stick it will be extremely frustrating.

And then imagine seeing random pve scrubs (too harsh words.. i know :P ) playing against good fights at first round. Just because there are a few good teams left doesnt mean the rest of the population is the same. There are bad players..and then there are even worse

Unfortunately there is very little that can be done about this because we are using a single elimination bracket. My advice to teams is to prepare yourself for that matchup when/if it happens, because if you are gunning for the Legendary, you will have to go up against those teams eventually anyway. Brackets will come out 1 week for each tournament, so research your opponent, and try to find ways to counter them. I would also encourage any teams to play in the weekly cups as practice for the tournament if you are worried about getting matched up against these teams in the first round.

Back on the preliminaries/randomization topic, getting CAs from ArenaNet isn’t necessarily an issue. Im going to speak with my admin team over the next few days to discuss some stuff about this, expect a follow up post in regards to this in a few days.

Edit: If you guys have ideas on how you think we could better handle the situation in regards to team overflow, leave it here.

The Internet Relay Chat (IRC) official channel #Mistpedia @ irc.quakenet.org was lost, I do not know when and why, I only saw it empty and unused. I allowed myself to register it back. If someone from Mistpedia Staff wants it, I will gladly transfer ownerships you.

This is just an info to inform Mistpedia owners about this security issue. The Mistpedia.net website has no way to contact their official staff by email, and that is why I use this forum.

Yeah it’s been awihle since we have used that. Ive edited the contact article. Posted this on another thread as well but if you guys have questions or concerns you can email me at john@mistpedia.net

114? 60 per region already…

If I signup till 14th well still get equal treatment on whatever criteria they later decide right?

yes, when you signup (so long as it’s done before the cutoff) will not affect your chances of getting in.

Why are we not allowed to know by what criteria you decide which teams will participate?

The teams for the most part will be randomly selected. Some teams with prior tournament experience will be given entry regardless (Good Fights, 55 HP Monks, etc). This was my own decision. I did not want teams which have been preparing and practicing for an event like this getting screwed over by the randomization, at the same time I also wanted to try and be as fair as possible to everyone else signing up.

In regards to doing preliminaries I feared it would be too hard of a task to complete with the amount of teams we are dealing with. Some players may have not had CAs to use for their preliminary games, some teams may have tried to falsify results (I have had this happen in the past with much smaller events), it would have created more issues than it would have solved.

I again however want to reiterate that the brackets will be extended beyond 16 teams. We will extend it to as large a number that we can handle with our staff on the day of, and I am actively recruiting more staff now so we can handle more teams.

hahaha if you guys really think more than 32 teams will register than you’r out of your mind. I predict 14-16 teams tops registering. Even if more than 16 teams register, they can always make them play the matches without the match being streamed.

85 full teams last time I checked the document, that was about 12 hours ago.

Edit: just checked again were at 114 full teams :P

Heart of the Mists Megaserver?

in PvP

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

Hasn’t this always been there? I was under the impression that the HotM was anyway a “megaserver” where everyone from the entire EU or NA region would be. I don’t think I’ve ever had an “overflow” in PvP.

Or am I not understanding the way this works?

The actual games themselves have always been region wide (tying in everyone that is queueing in either NA or EU) but the Heart of the Mists (the lobby you are in between games) was only people that were on your server up until this patch

TDM vs Arena Competitively Speaking

in PvP

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

Hey guys sup! On the forums people speak a lot about an implementation of TDM and Arena. Curiosity sprung up today to see which you guys prefer for a competitive format (to be used for tournaments, leagues, etc). Now to provide a distinction between the two…

TDM: Players can respawn every so many seconds, first team to a certain number of points wins the game

Arena: No respawns, multiple rounds, first team to win a certain number of rounds wins.

Which would you guys prefer as a competitive format, and why do you think this way?

Guild Wars 2 Casual Concerns

in PvP

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

Good video. I definitely think there is something that could be built around 2v2, been having some really nice tournaments recently and I think it has potential.

However, with that said I can see reasons they would choose not to implement it right now. Biggest one that comes to mind is if they were to implement it now and have a queue for it it would split the playerbase by a pretty big margin and make queue times a pain with the current population of PvP. They talked about this about a year ago when there was a lot of talk for implementing an unranked and ranked queue and they gave similar reasons for not doing it at the time.

I could see some other issues with an automated 2v2 system as well. People going in with troll stalemate comps (double bunker guard, 2 permastealth chars, etc that would cause the game to go on for eons) would be a big issue IMO. There would need to be some sort of secondary mechanic or something to discourage stalemating if the objective was just going to be “kill your opponents,” but perhaps that’s something that could be discussed in this thread.

Another thing to consider too is that at the moment they seem to be rather focused on fixing the rewards system. If DM was to be brought in on Tuesday (for argument’s sake) we would get a crap load of people coming back to the game to try it out, but in the long run of things the issues with the rewards system is still there and could drive quite a few people away again if they have nothing to strive for.

I definitely think it’s something that should be implemented, but maybe as something that the players can grow first, instead of just making it right into a separate queue. Perhaps give us the ability to turn off points and edit custom arenas to work for a DM mode (we can sort of do it now but it’s very makeshift).

Overall though good video, thanks for it.

Collaborative Development: Ladders & Seasons

in CDI

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

What types of rewards would you like to see? — Gems, gold, skins only available to pvp for the top winners,

I disagree with this on a fundamental level and was delighted when the rewards from season one weren’t crazily skewed towards the winning servers.

Incentivising people to move to already powerful servers is the great danger that I think Arenanet are aware of.

I think this is a bit of an irrelevancy though. In SPvP this wont be an issue because players will be relying on themselves, not their servers, to achieve these rewards.

Collaborative Development: Ladders & Seasons

in CDI

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

What type of structure would you find interesting for leagues and ladders?

Something similar to the way Starcraft runs it’s system. Players get placed into divisions (Bronze/Rabbit, Silver/Dolyak, Gold/Wolf, Masters/Phoenix, etc) based on their skill level with placement matches at the start of the season and then they battle it out for top spots in their divisions and to move up throughout the course of the season.

How long should a season last?

2-3 months seems like a good number.

What would motivate you to play in one?

Ability to attain skins and/or other always visible vanity items (not finishers) only attainable through this system

What types of rewards would you like to see?

see above

How would a player earn these rewards?

Different rewards for placing in different divisions at the end of the season. Extra rewards for players in the top X% at the end of the season.

How would you encourage players of all skill levels to participate?

Guarantee end of season rewards for players that participated enough in this system (meta achievement?)

Edit:

How would you encourage players of all skill levels to participate?

Profession based ranks for accounts. Every profession on an account gets ranked separately. This way, when Johnny is trying out his Guardian for the first time, he is ranked differently than his 90% ranked Thief. When he deletes his Guardian and makes a new one 2 months later, he doesn’t get to start over because it’s per profession on the account.

I like this idea. I feel it would help to encourage new players to try new classes without worrying about their rating falling through the floor.

BLUna.7928

Sup guys. Been noticing around the forums that A LOT of people are looking for a direct implementation for Arena/Death Match, and while that may still be some ways off, Nothingg gave me an awesome idea today for something we can do to remedy the situation for the time being. With that in mind, I present Fight Clüb [FC].

Wut Dis?

Well, it’s fairly simple. It’s well known that a lot of people want to be able to play arena and deathmatch and while we don’t have an official mode in for it yet, the community has done an awesome job of starting something up with tournaments and servers dedicated to it. This guild seeks to unite the deathmatch community to one spot and provide opportunities for players to be as casual or competitive as they want to be through guild exclusive arena servers, tournaments, and general community building.

At the moment, the plan is to support 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 arena along with general deathmatch brawling, but we are open to supporting other variants as well if people are interested.

How is this any different from just making a duel, 2v2, 3v3, etc server?

While there is nothing wrong with this approach that quite a few people have taken, there are some issues that come into play. Trolls and lack of proper structure being the two big ones here. The guild aspect will help to eliminate trolling (and if it happens it can be easily remedied via removal) and general ettequite/rules will be established within the guild to help keep it fun for everyone.

How are you going to keep the casual minded and more competitive minded people seperate?

Well, to remedy this issue, we have installed a “rank” system into the guild. The guild will have four main ranks (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Bonjwa) with a fifth “Wood” rank for new people that have joined. While at the beginning these ranks will not do anything in particular, the plan once we have enough members is to create Bronze, Silver, and Gold servers for each section (1v1, 2v2, 3v3) for players to congregate themselves into and keep things balanced. Bronze servers will cater to newer players looking to play just for fun or to keep things casual, Silver servers will be aimed to accommodate the semi-competitive playerbase, and gold servers will be aimed at the most competitive players.

Will lower rank players be restricted from joining higher tier servers?

No, if players want to step things up and try a harder challenge they can do so at their leisure, and if an admin notices this you may be bumped up faster. Contrast to this however, as per guild etiquette, we will be asking that higher rank players not abuse the lower rank servers.

What about tournaments and other events?

In addition to tying this in with the already active Mistpedia Weekly 2v2, Ill be working to set up other tournaments for 1v1 and 3v3 along with other (possibly more casual) events to keep everyone enticed and active. More info will be coming on this later

How will you be maintaining all of this and/or how can I help?

The one thing I want to highlight more than anything here is that this is an extremely community driven project and things will happen that aren’t planned, as they will with any guild. There will be drama, there will be trolls, but I can assure you that we will do the best to avoid these issues and handle them quickly to maximize fun and try to make this as legitimate as possible.

In terms of what you guys can do to help, there is a lot that needs to be done! For this project to work (assuming we get enough members) we will be needing around 9-12 custom arena servers (and double this if we extend to EU), so some fundraising may need to be done. These servers will also need to be kept active, so any member willing to give tokens to the servers will be extra help to the project. The guild will also be needing more admins (right now it’s just Nothingg and myself) so we can make sure issues are handled quickly, so if that interests you we could certainly use your help

Blu pls, just tell me how to join
If you are interested in joining just fill out This Form or contact a member in game and we should get you added within 24-48 hours (Please make sure you have an open guild slot when we invite you).

Im really looking forward to starting this up and seeing just how far we can take it guys ^.^ If you have any questions or concerns feel free to leave them here or hit me up in game and I can discuss them with you. Other than that, feel free to sign up, and we shall see you on the battlefield

From 2-300 to 5-600, awesome, i guess .
It’s like when they said we doubled the pvp playerbase with our new rewards for pvp, yeah, that’s because u had like 200 playerbase, so doubling is easy and of course u don’t compare that number with the best numbers, when the hype was at it’s peak, because then the picture would be awfull.

Exactly, it’s the little victories that count these days.

The Ken Document

in PvP

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

Elixir R — Now instant cast and breaks stun. The cooldown was increased to 45 seconds, up from 30 seconds.

If you’re going to make this skill a stunbreak (again) it can’t refill endurance. That’s saying: “yo break stuns and have 2s of i-frames.” I think Elixir R is fine as it is.

Analyse — This toolbelt skill has been redesigned. It now called “Deploy Detector”.
Deploy Detector
Deploy a detector that applies vulnerability and reveals stealthed enemies within the area.
Casting Time: 0.5 seconds
Recharge: 60 seconds
Range: 900
Radius: 300
Duration: 5 seconds
Revealed: 4 seconds
Vulnerability(5): 8 seconds

I’m very much against implementing such a mechanic in the current state of the game. Maybe once all the appropriate balances have been made we can look at ways to counter Stealth and how annoying it is that Wakkey always gets decapped by thieves.

Automated Response — Now reduces incoming condition duration by 100%, rather than granting complete immunity.

Believe it or not this trait isn’t that useful and it needs a redesign. Again, traits of this nature should just disappear form the game.

I think the elixir R change he is asking for implies it no longer refills endurance, could be wrong though. Regardless I do agree that a stunbreak and filling up the endurance bar could cause some issues.

On analyze, I personally like the changes. Could make for a clutch way to quickly mess up a thief’s initiation, and the vuln would be nice to toss into a group trying to res or stomp a teammate to try and make AoE around a downed body more efficient.

With Automated, it has it’s place, although it may not necessarily be a good one. Decap Engis are slowly becoming a thing (still debatable if they will actually become a thing in NA), and the condi focused versions of the build make heavy use of this to try and keep alive when in outnumbered scenarios. While I dont necessarily agree with the mechanic of condi immunity it definitely assists in tankier types of builds.

Overall I like the direction Ken is going with this. Few things I could be on the fence about (warrior changes specifically) but other than that I would definitely like to see some of his stuff implemented.

Discussion: Chilled

in PvP

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

the Chill effect is just fine.. there aren’t that many ways to apply it and they all have short durations.

this would be true however there are certain specs (specifically on ranger and engi are two I can think of) that have the possibility to apply 10 or even 20 seconds of it at a time with proper runes and trait choices. When in shorter durations it’s not so bad but when you get crazy durations like that on you it starts to get a bit annoying especially if you dont have a condi cleanse coming off cooldown anytime soon.

So the effect is fine, but duration is the issue? Duration, of any condition when you don’t have a clear, is annoying. I can put more than 40 seconds of burning on someone in a opener and walk away if they don’t have a clear up.

this is true as well but another thing to consider is burning’s potency will increase with condition damage while chill will not.

Discussion: Chilled

in PvP

BLUna.7928

the Chill effect is just fine.. there aren’t that many ways to apply it and they all have short durations.

this would be true however there are certain specs (specifically on ranger and engi are two I can think of) that have the possibility to apply 10 or even 20 seconds of it at a time with proper runes and trait choices. When in shorter durations it’s not so bad but when you get crazy durations like that on you it starts to get a bit annoying especially if you dont have a condi cleanse coming off cooldown anytime soon.

I definitely want to see it too. PvP has been awesome the past few weeks, and the game (at least in my own opinion) is headed in a good direction. Dont get me wrong though we have a long way to go, but I am hopeful we could see some awesome stuff by the end of next year.

Tournament viewership numbers have started going up as well (ESL Weekly cups for instance were getting around 5-600 viewers where they only had 2-300 previously) and with more and more events popping up in the coming months stuff should start to get really interesting. The support from you guys on the viewership end has been awesome, and if you keep it up, some cool stuff may be on its way.

And speaking of MLG for you guys in NA check out the MLG gamebattles ladder! If we get that active and rolling we could have some real competition starting up!

Mistpedia (Formerly PvPTV) 2v2 #3 1/11

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

It’s that time again! Mistpedia 2v2 Number 3 will be on January 11th (Saturday) Starting at 2PM EST Anyone is welcome to sign up. The tournament will have 8 teams and run on the following format:

  • All matches will be fought in the Graveyard point on the Legacy of the Foefire
  • All games will be played on NA servers
  • All games Best of 3
  • Grand Finals will be a Double Elimination Style Bo5 Set (meaning the upper bracket finalist needs to win one set. If the lower bracket finalist wins the initial set, a second set will be played to act as the upper bracket finalists “second elimination”)

As usual, the winning team members will each receive one 2000 gem card and second place team members will also be receiving one 800 gem card.

We have a set of rules that players must follow. Please keep in mind these rules only apply to this specific tournament (2v2 #3) and that the rules may change for future tournaments. Please make sure to abide by them to ensure maximum flow and fun for all competitors:

  • Teams may not consist of the following compositions:
    > Double Bunkers (see below rules for clarification on this)
    > Any Class Stacking
  • The following abilities, traits, sigils, runes, etc are banned from play:
    > Mesmer: Prismatic Understanding (Chaos XII)
  • If a team consists of any of the previously listed compositions they will be given approximately 10 minutes to change violating parts of the composition. If they cannot complete this task in the time allotted the team will be disqualified.
  • Once a player is stomped, he or she may not rejoin the fight or join the spectator team. Players that do this will be disqualified.
  • Players may not make use of any form of Hacking, Mods, or Game Exploits as defined by the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement
  • No Purposefully avoiding combat (otherwise known as delaying/stalling). Admins will decide when and if players are stalling. First offense will give your opponents one point, Second offense is Disqualification. Example of stalling would be abusing stealth or other mechanics to clear combat and regain health.
  • If a player willingly leaves the general vicinity of the graveyard, The opposing team will be given one point. Being CC’d away from the area does not count so long as the player promptly returns to the main battleground.
  • Players have 5 minutes to change builds between rounds. We recommend players have multiple characters of the same class prepared so that they may be ready to switch in a timely manner if they wish.
  • Admins will determine bunkers on a build by build basis, but as a general definition it is defined as being able to soak up, negate, or redirect massive amounts of damage while having a much lesser focus on damage output. For example a 0/0/10/30/30 Cleric’s Amulet Guardian would probably be considered a bunker, but a permastealth thief would not (however a permastealth thief could be considered stalling if the mechanic is abused). Please keep in mind that this is a very loose definition, and once more admins will have the final say on if a build is a bunker or not.
  • Admins reserve the right to change/alter the rules at any time

And that’s about it guys! The tournament will be live on Mistpedia . If you would like to sign up, all you need to do is fill out the form at the bottom of this post. Good luck to all and were looking forward to seeing you live!

Hey guys! BLU here, just wanted to let everyone know whats going on this week in the world of PvP tournaments! Bit of a quick update though on the Good Fights tournament, and that is that the tournament is going to be streamed to the Mistpedia Channel instead of it’s previous home (PvPTV) due to some complications with the channel’s owner. But anyway, here are all the events happening in the next few days:

THURSDAY: ESL Weekly Cup

SATURDAY: Good Fights Invitational

SUNDAY: GW2Match EU Tournament

There will also be gem giveaways to viewers during the ESL weekly cup and the Good Fights Invitational, so make sure you guys tune in

Beach is… so bad ;/

I wanted to do it on beach this week for two reasons.

  • It’s very easy to manage from an administrative standpoint
  • I want to see how a tournament will run on all maps.

With point number two in mind, the next tournament will probably be on Graveyard, which is the most requested map.

will gw2 ever become an esport

in PvP

Posted by: BLUna.7928

BLUna.7928

I personally feel it will, but it’s not going to happen overnight. I obviously have a bit of a biased opinion when it comes to this subject as a shoutcaster, but I personally feel we have made huge strides since launch. If you guys remember about a year ago it wasn’t even possible for us to have player organized tournaments and now we are having 2-3 per week. We’ve had hiccups over the past few months, but I feel we have started to recover tremendously:

  • Balance is headed in a good direction (in my own opinion at least)
  • New teams are showing up weekly
  • We had about 1500 viewers for a 2v2 tournament!
  • There are two or more tournaments every week

We have great competitive scene starting to brew, and I know there is a lot more in the works for the coming months that you guys should definitely be getting excited for. If you guys really want to see this game go #esports, all I can ask is that you guys support these tournaments. Bigger viewership numbers will allow us to rocket the scene to new heights, and we need the entire community to help with it. As I said, it isnt going to happen in one night or even one month from now, but I personally feel that we as a community can take this game to a level where we can see it at Dreamhack, MLG Pro Circuit, and other huge events. The only thing limiting it is time and how far the community wants to see it go.

:)

Just updated the post to clarify a few things:

  • MM Necro and Spirit Rangers are not banned by themselves, rather they are disallowed when paired together on the same team.
  • Definition of a Bunker: I did have to make an addition to the rules for this, and I apologize in advance if this causes any complications. Due to the complexity of this topic I have decided that admins will be given the right to decide if a build is a bunker or not. I placed a general definition and examples for the sake of reference but please keep in mind that this is a very loose definition and admins will have the final say.
  • Added an example of stalling to clarify it’s relation to stealth focused builds

And beyond that guys things are shaping up nicely! We only have 2 spots left! So sign up now! To add one last thing in response to the controversy surrounding the banning of the “petting zoo” composition: please keep in mind that this is the first of many PvPTV 2v2 tournaments, and while the rules may not change for this specific one, it is possible it will be altered in future versions of this tournament as I plan to hold it on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.
