Now Casting CS:GO with ESEA
Twitter: @BLUCSGO
Just to clarify, teams were allowed to have reserves. Many teams did not however because they would have had to meet the same criteria for WTS play as the main roster players.
1) I covered a portion of the CN qualifiers on my stream but a majority of the event was not covered.
2) There is a delay.
Glory doesnt exist anymore, do you happen to mean reward track progress?
3rd and final guest will be ROM from TCG!
Sounds vaguely interesting, but why start a Gw2 Podcast so late into the game and after so many others have come and gone before hand?
Do you have a better plan and direction than others previous or will you fall into the trap of “lack of new things” to rejoice about, complain about, or make suggestions on?
I’m going to be willing to discuss things that other shows didn’t really want to approach before, this including team/event drama, which is fairly common in gw2. Other shows didn’t really want to necessarily talk about this stuff before because it had the potential to stir up more issues. Shows like liveon3 have managed to cover that stuff professionally before though so I see no reason why I can’t. I’m using drama as a blunt term at the moment however. We won’t be bringing this stuff up to play it as a blame game or for the purposes of “firing shots” but more to just explain the situations in more detail and talk about it.
Generally speaking the next few weeks in the scene should be fairly eventful so there should be plenty to talk about.
Greetings! It is with great pleasure that I present a new weekly podcast that I will be starting this week called META. This podcast will talk about the same subject matter that many other shows in the past such as SotG and SotM have discussed, but we will be taking a bit more of a laid back approach to it. Ill be bringing on 3 different guests each week to talk about balance, the competitive scene, pvp in general, drama , and more! We will also be talking about topics that viewers suggest here on the forums and in the twitch chat, so if you think there’s something we should talk about, let us know.
The first episode (the beta episode) will be this Friday, at 8PM EDT / 5PM PDT / 02 CEST so be sure to check it out! This may be a bit late for people in Europe, so if you are unable to catch it for whatever reason Ill be uploading the Vod/Audio to Youtube and Soundcloud. A summary of what to expect in our episodes can be found below, so be sure to tune in!
EP 0: October 24, 2014
Edit: 3rd and final guest confirmed as ROM from TCG!

On OPs original topic..
There’s quite a few things, at least in my opinion, that need to be seen/implemented before we can expect serious amounts of competition and regular big cash tournaments to pop up. The 150K Boost is a great start, but were still a long way from stable. Going over some of the more polarizing points:
Those are just my thoughts, lemme know yours. ^_^
TL;DR: Create an Ameture Scene, Add Ladders, Increase Low-Mid Tier Support, Support tournaments and teams.
(edited by BLUna.7928)
It was good to see it on the site, but the average player DOESN’T VISIT THE WEBSITE! Grouch kinda half-said that the TOG finals would receive in-game advertisement, and I didn’t see anything today, except for the magic find buff on my stat bar. My guildies were asking what it was!
Just have an in-game message flash across the screen, or an in-game mail or something! Come on!
Right here bro
Grand Finals Brackets are now available. To the teams participating this weekend please check your emails for details.
Is the finals bracket posted anywhere?
Also, how about the results for EU Q3/Q4??
This is ridiculous…
Mistpedia isn’t updated…
DPS also doesn’t have ANYTHING on their website for ToG…
Hate having to always search for this stuff, its not easily accessibly and when I do find something its not even updated!!
All of our brackets can be found at either our challonge page or our Battlefy Page (were in the process of migrating to Challonge for it’s ease of use).
ToG EU Finals brackets are not yet prepped, as my admin is still in the process of doing the seeding to ensure it’s done correctly.
In regards to Mistpedia not being updated I have not had the time to do it yet. I am currently the only person who actively edits tournament articles on Mistpedia, not just for MP events, but for ESL and other tournaments as well, and this is not how the website should work. There is nothing stopping people from creating accounts and editing it themselves if they have the information and knowhow to edit WikiMedia articles. Granted, I am not saying other people should be doing it, as it is a Mistpedia-run event, but rather other people can do it, and that is how a Wikipedia should work, with multiple users working together to contribute to a knowledge base. Mistpedia makes no money from running tournaments, and we do not monetize the website, so unfortunately this means we are at the mercy of volunteer’s availability, and I cannot fault people for not being available, especially when they’re not being given anything for their work.
We’re actually working on a completely separate subdomain that functions more as a news website to hopefully provide a consistent source for the information you guys are looking for, but we are having some trouble getting the funding and technical know-how on board to get that project completed.
Brackets for C and D are now available, reminder emails of the times and arena info will be sent out later in the week.
Great job, as always, DPS and congratulations to the ToG (and WTS?) qualifiers:
Sharks with Lazers
Cognitive Gaming
Hashtag Believe
Collateral Damage (evil villains)
Blacklisted
The Abjured
APEX Prime
The Uncivilized Rough Boyz
Hope i spelled all that correctly. Thanks again DPS and ANET for a great tourney so far.
So we are going to have a ToG finals tournament with these 8 teams and then a WTS Invitational tournament with these same 8 teams?
Yes, the ToG finals will have no bearing on the WTS qualifiers. Note however that due to the WTS requirements some of the teams taking part in the ToG finals won’t be able to play in the WTS qualifiers.
Iight, you guys made your case. The next time I’m able to stream during prime time when the queues are popping I’ll try it again and see how much pushback I get from players.
DATES
PRIZE SPLIT
Currency conversions done via Google on 9.26.14 and are rough estimates.
Side Note: Placing Third in this event would be the equivalent to Winning the 2013 Invitational tournament held last year and would tie your team with SYNC for the highest earning players from Cash Prizing in GW2 (obviously after this event however, you would be behind whoever takes first and second).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
(edited by BLUna.7928)
Hey guys, I want to give some insight from someone who has access to this as to why a lot of people in the ASP stopped using this system on streams and for YouTube in general.
First of all, OP has a good point. Yes, I, and everyone else in the ASP, should be using it to stream and record matches for upload. And I would love to go back to doing this, however there was always a large amount of insecurity and general anger from a lot of the teams on both NA and EU when we watched them and recorded the games for upload. The reasons for this varied from teams not wanting their strats given away to new teams that didn’t want to be watched in general. Regardless of if their concerns were legitimate or not, there is always a bit of an issue when your strat is given away on a stream with 80+ viewers and constantly has some high profile names viewing it! which could potentially make that team weaker in an upcoming event.
With these issues in mind, I was ultimately left with a choice. I could continue doing the casts and becomes hated by a large portion of teams in the game for giving away their strats on stream (granted this was quite a while ago that I ultimately stopped doing them publicly so things may have changed since then, but with 150,000 USD looming I doubt it.), or I could just stop using it and try to produce more educational content like I try to do now. Ultimately I chose the second out of a respect for the teams in the game and a hate for childish drama being created. A lot of the other casters shared my pattern of thought and decision making, and this is why we have the general uselessness of the Notifier that we do now.
Some people may wonder “why didn’t you ask the teams if they were okay with it?” And I would have to answer with: “I usually did for the most part, but it got to a point where most teams would outright say no, and the exercise became somewhat pointless.”
The issues stated above along with many others are why I can say with solid certainty that the system would probably not be made public. The additional issues of ghosting on teamspeaks, and the server cap of 20 people per arena only make this system more controversial, if not impossible to make public.
A correct solution to this would be replays, then these casts could be created and streamed ala HuskyStarcraft or Day9, but unfortunately in a game that has three navigational axes versus two (GW2 vs Starcraft/league) the implementation of such a system would be much harder for the devs. The argument we see so often that states “but guild wars 1 had it” often forgets guild wars 2 is using a completely new engine with minimal, if any parts of the old engine. An above post said Havoc physics engine made it impossible for replays to be added, but halo 3 and reach have replays, and to my knowledge they both use a version of the Havoc physics engine. Replays are definitely a possibility in the future, but when you consider this game is still missing crucial components like a ladder system, I personally think it will be awhile before we see it.
So then how do we fix this issue, because it is still important. Content creation, especially in a game with competitive aspirations, is a crucial part of the growth of the scene as it gives educational material to new and growing players. I am all up for using it again, but I fear with WTS on the horizon, the scrutiny I came under originally would only repeat itself. But I’m up for trying it, so with the closing of this post I want to ask one question to those that consider themselves in the range of the spectator tool and one question to everyone.
Could a permanent stun be applied to all the players until the pause is unchecked? That effectively pauses everything without changing how the game works.
Cooldowns, timers, currently capped points, and currently applied condis then become the issue, as theres no way to freeze those, or at least there is no mechanic I can think of that makes you immune to already applied condi damage. We can change the scores of the game via server commands but theres no way to change a timer at the moment.
(edited by BLUna.7928)
Just updated the most recent changes, any teams marked fully in red have pulled out of the event. Please note that Group A has until this post is about 8 hours old (Specifically until 16 CEST) to process any changes they need, if our timestamp reads the request as being past that point it will be denied.
We are preparing the full roster list now, it should be ready in a few minutes.
Edit: All info should be on the posts, if anything is missing or if you have any additional questions let us know in the form here.

A/B Brackets and groups now available, updating the main post in a moment.
Link to Full Roster List Please note that this may not be 100% up to date with team’s requested roster changes.
The full rosters for all teams may be viewed via the above link. They are separated by qualifier so you can see exactly who you will be up against. If there is a member marked in dark red, this means this player is currently ineligible to play for the team as he/she has either re-listed to another team or there is an issue with his/her account that needs to be resolved. Captains have been contacted by email in these cases.
As a reminder to all teams, you have until 24 hours before your event’s first round starts to request any changes. Absolutely no changes will be accepted past the 24 hour mark, regardless of circumstances unless it proves to be a mistake on Mistpedia’s end. So for teams playing in Group A, you have until Friday at 10AM EDT to submit any requests, Group B has until Saturday at 10AM to request any changes, etc. Changes may be requested via this form.
If you have any additional concerns/questions about the procedures of the EU ToG, you may post them here or email us at events@mistpedia.net. For questions/concerns relating to the North American sector of the event, please contact Contact@DigitalProSports.com

FOR SPECTATORS: Qualifier Live Streams will be hosted on my twitch channel. The streams will begin at approximately Noon EDT / 9AM PDT / 18 CEST and will run for about 3-4 hours. One Ro8 game and both of the qualifying rounds will be streamed during the qualifiers. The Grand finals will be streamed to the GW2 Official Twitch and that stream will also begin at 9AM PDT // Noon EDT // 18 CEST
FOR PLAYERS: Server Information is being EMAILED to your captains, please ensure they check their inboxes before the date of scheduled play so there is no confusion on the day of. As an additional reminder, teams are ultimately responsible for being in the correct arenas at the correct time until the Ro8 of the qualifiers. If you do not join before the posted time admins will have full rights to disqualify your team from the event.
For all four qualifiers, the earliest start time will be at 10AM EDT or 16 CEST
If teams are familiar with the procedures of how the ToL2 qualifiers were run, this will be conducted in the exact same manor. An easier to read bracket will be included in the email being sent to teams which should clarify the meaning of match numbers if teams are not able to identify these for themselves

Full Groups and brackets are now live! As a guide, if you are playing in one of these groups you should expect to participate on the following days:
As a notice to teams that may be inconvenienced by these dates, we apologize in advance. We tried to be as accommodating as possible when it came to play dates, but due to concerns with bracket balancing and the risk of our seeding system being compromised, we could not accommodate every team’s full availability.
Seeding Procedure
Due to raised concerns with our seeding procedures during ToL2, we are putting it fully out in the open in regards to how we have decided to seed the event. Team’s dates and bracket spots were chosen based on a few factors:
We understand teams may not agree with these methods of seeding, but these were in our opinion one of the fairer and least biased methods for determining player positions on brackets as it relies solely on the data listed above. Mistpedia made no direct changes in the seeds beyond those listed above. If you have ideas on ways to improve our methods of seeding for future events, feedback may always be sent to events@mistpedia.net.
With that out of the way, here are the links:

We will respect the player’s most recent listing. If he is added to another team he will be removed from any older teams he/she has signed up for.
We need a Kaceytron.
www.boobjobforblu.com <- donate now to give blu a pair of double Ds then we shall go esports
w0t
I actually agree with a lot of this lmao
Would those who make it to the quals finish earlier like tol2?
Yea, third place games won’t be on stream as far as I’m aware but they’ll still be played off stream. So if you qualify you’ll get done about 30 minutes earlier.
I would say around 6ish edt, rough estimate based on tol2, dps may be doing things differently though.
Blu, it would be SO EASY for ANet to give custom arenas a /set_timer command. The reason they won’t do it is because they can’t enforce a “perfect” pause state for the game. That is, everything remains frozen in place as soon as there’s a disconnect. But these things are trifles! If you simply make everyone restart at spawn when the game pauses, maybe one time red team will get a slight unfair advantage, maybe the next time blue team will, but all that is NOTHING compared to not having to deal with disconnects and 4v5s at high level prestigious tournaments. You guys run and cast the tournaments, if you lobby for it they’ll cave and give it to you. We don’t need a perfect pause, we just need something that’s better than nothing at all, which is what we have now!
Oh no I agree, it would, but I think you guys overestimate the connection and lobbying power I and other ASP members have with devs. I’ve been giving them feedback for this kind of stuff for months now :/
There’s also the issue of the timer, We’ve thought of doing this before, but the issue arises if the player remains DCd for 5 or more minutes the game could restart at 150-250 with only a minute and a half left on the clock.
I’ve been running it for 2 days now, step up your math game son
They should add dire.
ALSO, please ensure to check your junk folders. We have had teams miss emails in the past with it going to junk folders, and we’ve already gotten reports of this email chain making it into a few people’s spam inboxes. For future communication adding events@mistpedia.net as well as john@mistpdia.net to your trusted emails should ensure this sort of issue does not happen.
EU Invitations and Discrepancy notifications have been sent out. Captains, please check your inboxes for an email from events@mistpedia.net. Brackets and groups for the EU tournament will be posted sometime in the next few days.
A Note to prospective EU Participants:
Certain teams have major discrepancies with their rosters which, if left unsolved will disallow them from participating in the event entirely. These teams have been contacted via in game mail. Please ensure to check your IGM so you don’t miss out on an opportunity to participate.
Other teams have minor discrepancies with their roster that, while it will may not affect their eligibility to play, may limit the people who can play for them and possibly prize distribution in the event the team qualifies for any. Teams that are affected by this will be emailed details on what they need to do along with their RSVP emails which should go out tomorrow.
Approximately 4-9 teams will not be invited to participate, but that does not mean you are out. In the event invited teams do not confirm their participation by the specified time, these teams will be invited in the order they applied.
I haven’t played Necro is awhile, but by the comments. I’d say it’s something like this maybe.

OK I FOUND THERE ARE AT LEAST 3 FEARS THAT CAN BE USED WITHIN ONLY 20 SEC AS WELL AS OTHER CLIPPIELING. IT IS KIND OF OP. I ALSO FOUND THAT PERMA FEAR IS POSSIBLE CUZ 3 FEAR WITHIN ONLY 20 SEC PRETTY MUCH ENOUGH TO USE. 3 FEARS FOR ONLY 20 SEC IS TOO MUCH TO AVOID ANY OPPONENT CRITICAL HITS. IT IS JUST OP AGAINST PERSON WHO DO NOT HAVE ANY STABILITY. KK THX.
So bring stability.
Adding on to this, EU Teams will be contacted on Monday about RSVPing for the event. Captains please ensure to check emails as we should have them out by end of day PDT on Monday.
Answering the above question, EU teams will be seeded using available EU data from MP ELO. We will be seeding in four separate groups of 32 based on the chosen date preference. Because MP ELO data for EU is somewhat limited with no ESL weekly logs or other EU tournament logs coming into the system we are still considering how teams with no prior MP ELO rating will be seeded, but we will have an answer on this soon. All EU Group Brackets should be released at the same time shortly after the RSVP window closes. Please note that these procedures only apply to EU ToG.
As a brief reminder, we request the assistance of EU TOs to submit logs here to help improve the system as we often cannot verify the validity of matches not being submitted by TOs.

Question for you Blu! With the patch coming out on tuesday will the no asuran rule go away??
Probably not, it’s still going to be a hindrance to spectators which was half the reason we implemented it in the first place. If we do anything that isnt streamed we may allow it however.
(edited by BLUna.7928)
I was seeing a lot of people were having a hard time getting information on when and where tournaments are happening, so I made this.
This calendar features all known SPvP tournaments, if something is missing or incorrect, feel free to reply here with the details and Ill get it added, I can also be reached on twitter.
Thanks for the feedback. This definitely hits on the rising themes we’ve seen coming from the community.
Creating a sense of progression through the different PvP types is definitely something we want. Hotjoin is not structured enough for new players, while team and solo arena are too daunting.
Open spectating of rated matches requires a lot of back-end work to make it scale to any number of viewers and support delays to prevent abuse. It is also less of a priority than leagues and seasons. Especially since we still have authorized shoutcasters and streamers.
Based on that quote I would assume he is working on it even further.
I definitely think they’re still working on it, but I’ve noticed a trend with the development schedule where they sort of shift the focus of the game to smaller and easier to accomplish projects when the community outcries for them which pushes the larger projects back.
When you take a look back when FP1 was being pushed out they seemed to be championing ladders and seasons as their next grand goal. With this new feature pack coming out, one would have thought that the team’s next big goal (which many of us thought would be the ladders/seasons) would have been ready for this patch. But when you look at the trends of the forum (which seems to be their main feedback inlet) over the past few months, I personally have noticed a lack of posts asking for ladders (granted this is probably from them saying they were working on it, but still a lack of posts relating to it nonetheless) and an increase of posts asking for unique rewards and complaints about model sizing. The implementation of new armor and fixing the models seemed to be much easier goals to accomplish from a development standpoint so my guess is that they switched gears to them to finish those which also would in the long run give them more time to build a better ladder system.
Take a look at developer activity as well (and feel free to correct me on this part if I am wrong). Grouch brought Branden Gee on to RU a few weeks back who was credited as the main person behind the Asuran fix, and the implementation of a new reward track/armor skin seems like an extremely minor task for the actual pvp team. We have not, however, heard word from people like Evan Lesh who are also programmers about what they are working on, which in my mind, seems to hint that those and other PvP team oriented programmers are still at work on a ladder system for future release, as based on the last word we heard from them, that was still their main development goal. Whether or not that has changed or not is yet to be seen, but I still feel it’s coming but these other smaller projects have pushed it back slightly.
Explaining a little bit more about the ELO system as I got a few PMs about it already: Everyone will start at 1200 rating when they are first added to the list. Were going to start tracking matches this weekend with the ToL2 finals and any tournaments from then onward that meet the requirements listed on that sheet will be fed into the system. Were going to use the ELO ratings for any Conquest events we run with the exception of our weeklies, so assuming it is kept up to date there should no longer be issues with seeding in these events as we will seed based purely off of the ELO rating system, and not on opinion or arbitrary leaderboard ratings. This system will also be open for anyone to use and view, so if other TOs in the future are looking for a fair way to seed they may use our ratings. MP is acting as the manager of this ELO system, but anyone with a match that meets our requirements is free to submit a match to be entered into the system so long as it meets the requirements listed on the page.

Another reason why I have a problem with mistpedia is because of their childish antics. They have done a lot for the pvp scene when no one was helping and want to thank them, but there is the another issue at hand. Now that people are willing to help the PvP scene thrive in terms of shoutcasting and running big tournies, mistpedia wants to push them out and just complain about them having more staff, better tech, and better shoutcasting. We couldve had the same people running ToL2 as we did ToL1 but because ANET allowed Blu to act as if he owns the game, those people that helped with ToL1 were not allowed. Instead of allowing them to help, he tried to do it himself because it seems he doesn’t want anyone showing him how it should be done.
That is where I drew the line. Another thing mistpedia does not do is, they do not enforce rules. Hell, they themselves even break them by reseeding…….. How many tournaments did we see people abuse bugs? How many of them were banned? The only time I saw rules enforced and people threatened of being DQ’d was ToL1, which was a nice change. Even still ToL1 had bug abusers that were not DQ’d.
Im responding to this part because its somewhat irrelevant to the OP but should be addressed nonetheless. Will has my statement and MP’s statement on the OP claims coming soon.
MP didn’t work with DPS during ToL2 because there were communication errors between the two parties, had these not existed more than likely we would have worked together.
In regards to your second claim about us not enforcing rules if there is something we may have missed you may contact us at events@mistpedia.net with the details, but at this exact moment we have no outstanding cases of rule violations.
Well with Mistpedia and how tournaments are normally run, rules apparently are there to just look pretty and don’t get enforced. So essentially you can do it and get away with it. They don’t have the kitten to ban anyone or enforce rules.
No clue where this is coming from. If you have an unresolved issue with our admin team please contact our events email (events@mistpedia.net). In regards to OPs question no it is not allowed, doing this would instantly DQ your team.
add team rosters plz, i still have no clue who is on no clue unless i find the vod which twitch might have deleted.
