Are Sylvari humanoid and mimic human attributes (such as the ability to have sex despite being unable to reproduce) because the pale tree designed them that way, or does it have something to do with the fact that Ronan buried his Family under the tree?
Due to the fact that the Pale Tree seems to produce Humanoids and Canines I was under the idea that the Pale tree used the “DNA” of Ronan’s family and possible dog as the basis for her children’s design. I mean she could have designed them due to the possibility that she considered Ronan a father like figure for aiding her growth and therefore designed the Sylvari after humans, but then why wouldn’t she do the same in honor Ventari and create a centaur like plant being?
Despite being described as forces of nature, I think you’re taking the concept farther away than I am. I merely noticed a connection between the powers the players can muster and the powers of the dragons themselves. If Zhiatan as undeath is considered a natural phenomenon then I do believe that the number of elder dragons possibly existing under your concept would greatly exceed those you mentioned. I only see Zhiatians existence as a representation of life force exchange in the sense of the same force necromancers call their own. Under this concept his role as elderdragon makes a bit more sense. So far the only dragon that doesn’t fit well with my theory is Krakkletorrik, However this is due to the sheer obscurity of the power he represents, Crystal.
I mostly consider Krakkletorrik to be of a greater representation of earth than that of Primordos, which focuses on flame and magma. This is because Crystal in of itself is a part of earth. the effects of the branded corruption aren’t solely composed of crystal, but mostly a black obsidian like stone. the natural phenomenon he’s commonly compared to is that of furious sandstorm.
The reason I consider his power electric in nature is the fact that crystals have certain electromagnetic properties, which explains the large amount of energy surging through Branded corruption. Torrik is also described as a hurricane on several occasions, meaning he likely has a power over electricity itself, which is very fitting for a representation of earth.
That being stated, the magic using classes have powers that are also represented by the Elder dragons excluding Mesmers ,Guardians and Rangers (Unaffiliated Energy, Light Energy, Nature) Which is why I feel there is a dragon of surging ethereal power, a Dragon of searing light, and a dragon of natures essence, still out there.
A few of the Istan quests in Nightfall suggest that the skale are in fact sapient (enough to have leaders, religion, and form armies, anyway), but still pretty stupid, possibly even more so than grawl.
I’m not sure the troll AoE attack is actually intended to be magic – it could instead be a representation that they know their caves and know what to do to cause a rockfall in a particular location. Dredge had something similar in EOTN regardless of whether they were spellcasters or not.
Lets not forget that some things didn’t transfer over between games with coherency. If I recall, Skelk in GW1 where boney rat like creatures. In GW2 Skelk have become scavenging salamander “men” who live in borrows and posses shadowstep/stealth abilities. Skale have changed a bit in appearance, but still retain their “Aquatic reptilian humanoid” appearance so the change isn’t significant. Enemy placement wise, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that they’re even sentient, at least from what I’ve witnessed. They just seem to hang out in rivers and creeks, no different than the sunbathing drakes, just sitting around (Probably sunbathing as well).
As for trolls, I just find it strange that the ability to fire a burst of frozen air from their bodies counts as a natural ability.
Trolls seem to be stuck in the same loreless zone as Skelk, Ettin and Skale.
All of them being incredibly primitive (Skale and Skelk might not even be sentient) and considered bothersome.
Trolls are likely around the same level of sentience as Ettin, having primitive clothing and tattoos, and what appears to be a tribal society. They also appear to have some skill in primitive magic, as several variates use an AOE element attack. That’s more than what can be said of Skelk, who I personally would like to know more about.
All I want to know about the mursaat is what happened to D’Alessio.
My theory is that the mursaat are interdimensional parasites. To survive in a world other than theirs, they need a suitable host from that world.
So in Tyria, they’ll get humans, and embed themselves in the back, and pop out those wing-like air-gills that they would also use to levitate, sense and gather magic from their surroundings.
That would also explain the mask, to cover the human faces, probably horribly disfigured from the pain of having their brains consumed by a Mursaat parasite.Still, they seem to have 3 toes in their feet, so that would be an important physical difference, as many Tyrian creatures have 3 toes, like ettins, jotun, trolls, giants and asura, but humans are aliens with 5 toes.
If they are not getting ’boot’s that make it look like 3 toes and actually have 3, or they mutate over time or get surgically modified so they end up with 3 toes, then the human-host theory would break.
It could still be another host, but it would be a shame, as I really like he idea. As it would also explain why did they took D’Alession: To put parasite on his back. If that was the case, he could even be already dead as one of the many Mursaat that died at the hands of humans or titans.Whatever the case, I just hope we get to know about their origin, and about what exactly happened to D’Alessio.
Most murasaat concept art depicts them as literally having no face. I’m going to go with the concept art and assume that they are faceless and wore masks to make them seem more human like to their worshipers.
The Way I see it, the dragons so far represent the divided magical energies used by classes or at least divided into a similar categories
Fire/(Earth) (Primordus)
Water(Water Dragon)
Ice(Jormag)
Earth/Crystal and Electricity/storm (Kralkatorrik)
Lifeforce (Zhaitan)
So what are we missing
Light
Unaffiliated Energy(Assuming Torrik isn’t a part of this)
Nature.
I may not have as much evidence to support this theory above the pale tree being dragon related, but it would sure fit the theme of the dragons being divided into magic casts.
Besides, when was the last time you’ve seen an evil divine energy dragon?
