Is the problem based on not having enough resources for the traffic or sth deeper?
From wht i heard havok is mainly used for ego shooter games, some of those i know have the feature to watch the last recorded match and let you replay it till it gets overwritten by the next one. If you lack server ressources you could get rid of hotjoin which brings more people in solo and teamq and then use the gained resources for some record function where you can spectate ur last match and some teamq matches of the top teams, but i’m not working in the industry.

To be honest they can make a lot more out of the seasons.
I feel way better to be top 25 and be rewarded for being a top contender

I just want to say thank you!
The ranking system really had to be changed.

Since the introduction of skyhammer rank became more and more meaningless.
As a result it can’t measure skill or time spent anymore.
So I compliment arenanet for going this route,
it’s definitly a better approach thn removing rank all together.

(Improvement: please make the rank emote
/rank display the rank you have selected in your hero panel
otherwise you can’t use the finisher you worked for
)

From now on please focus on balance patches and some decent matchmaking.

assuming you have a 100% critchance 30 points in critical dmg are already converted in 300 ferocity which means a 10% dps loss alone from traits, also you lose up on 5% to 10% depending on night or daytime due to the sigils, but we have to see how this mechanic works out, furthermore you have to take your gear, bufffood and disci banner into consideration, so we can t really say anything yet. I expect an average dmg decrease by 30% in an organized group.

10% crit dmg loss is ofc not a 10% dps loss, you know that, dont you?

So since finally the sigil changes have been revealed we should open the discussion again,
I would center the discussion around warriors since they r the backbone of a speedrun.
The questions which need to be discussed are

1. is a stacking sigil still worth it being included
2.should the weapon focus on double stacking
3. Will the gs/axemace be still superior to axe only including the new trait line

Dragonite ore would at least bring some pvers into pvp but ofc it s bloodstone dust.
Anyways for pvpers it s just straight out worthless, now i have to leave the mists to get a salvage kit and walk all the way to the trading post if i don t want my inventory to cloak up. Serious guys do you even think when you pull out updates? Implement a merchant/tp/bank in the mists otherwise it s just more stupidious as it is.

Hey Guys,

A week ago we were ready to cut ranks. Last week, due to our discussion on the CDI thread, we decided to keep them.

Right now we are trying to determine in what form we are going to keep ranks and how they should be balanced so attaining the rank of dragon is something that you have a reasonable chance of achieving and not a quest that you pass on to your children and your children’s children.

Because we agree with most of you that ranks are too difficult to attain and because it was a very easy change for us we also decided to give players a bonus to players in Solo and Team Arenas.

I’m sorry you didn’t get a response sooner but we didn’t want to jump the gun and say yes or no to this thread. What you are asking isn’t something that we can just turn on so it would have to come in a build later if we decide to do it. At the moment we don’t have a plan to retroactively award points for wins but many of you have brought up some interesting reasons for it so it is something we will take into consideration when we are discussing how to adjust ranks.

It is a very important adjustment since soo many pvers got their ranks through hotjoin and skyhammer while competitive people played over 1000 tournements with less rewards and less rank points gained. At least their should be some fix to reward people for their solo and teamq tournements with the appropriate rank points with the current system.

Q: Will we be able to sell PvP materials to npc vendors similar to tournament tickets?
A: These materials are not being removed as part of the maintenance build. In this update we are only removing glory and MAKING AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE AMOUNT OF RANK POINTS EARNED.

So where is the adjustment to the amount of rank points earned? because I can’t find it!

Serious don’t make a ,,March 18th Glory change FAQ’’ if you can’t keep your promises!
If we can’t trust or rely on your FAQ’s why even put them in?

UPDATE: Due to overwhelming player response, we have decided to keep ranks in PvP. We will be looking at rebalancing later tiers to make them more achievable. Because we will be keeping the rank system, at this time we are no longer planning to move rank finishers to ladders, create alternate rank finishers, or award special legacy titles. Stop investigating and actually start working. Beta is over!

I can repeat myself /resign if the match is unwinable
/report afk to sort people out who abuse the system
and make a 4vs5 in a soloq match only count as a loss to the leaver
and not to the rest of the team.

Is there no developer used to basic pvp mechanisms or did you hire mostly newcomers? This is no offense but you had very skilled developers in gw1 who thought about their game. GW2 just lacks the simpliest features and I wonder why you refuse to listen to the community who is willing to help you out. I recommend you guys to play one week of gw1 pvp and get a short idea of how simply features work. If you can’t get your job done thn hire people who are able to take your part.

Allie, people suggest the same things since beta.
Most have quitted others joined in asking the same questions all over again.
While devs always say they look into it, nothing changed since headstart.
Conquest isn t just the tip of the iceberg it s all you had at the time and still is yet.
You never implemented such easy methods like reporting for afk or a resign function.
I understand people who get tired from excuses of a long development process,
but I consider 2 years for simple features enough otherwise I would buy the game in like 10 years. Tbh this is not only a spvp problem pve and wvw players suffer from the same problems or how can the partyleader still kick the whole instance?
Maybe focusing only on living world content which gets cycled every two weeks wasn t the right way to go otherwise this game wouldn t still be in beta state.

Remove hotjoin, leave custom arenas, remove the leaderboard from soloq, so everyone can attend it without being punished to try new things out and group leaderboards in teamq to represent teams simply as tht.

People will adopt to it pretty fast.
Better matchmaking, skill improvement overall
and if someone like you, Deimos has to aciddently leave,
well thn it s not more thn a loss.

No one can take a soloq leaderboard for srs, how can it be seen as endgame content if people with 10wins 2 loses can be top 10 and one good player can t be measured by getting paired with four baddies.

In all honesty, it s not the developers fault tht matchmaking doesn t work, it s having hotjoin in addition to leave out the majority of the playerBASE. As a result the mmr system doesn t work or how can it be i jump over 100 places within one loss/win and get paired with pl not on the leaderboard or the top end of 1000 if i am in the top 200?

You say the community has a very large player base with players from all different skill levels. Most of which have extreme difficulty at learning very simply tells.

It’s true but for those there are already existing levels going up from 1 to 50.
I’m the co-leader of a guild including about 40 people who all got up to fractal lvl 80
and have spent a significant time to have an idea how fractals should work.
So while I’m focusing more on pvp and wvw content at the moment I see myself at least as a reasonable person to speak up for a wide playerbase including my friends.

While the community made very good points over 30 pages, which I really appreciate
the consensus at the moment is only

1. Shorten the dredge fractal
2. Make rewards appropriate to the time spent
(Everyone who gets an uninfused ring after completing a lvl 49 daily just doesn’t feel
rewarded in any accurat manner.)
3. If the agony grind should remain after another fractal overhaul, Chris you should
take into consideration to make other ascended gear (mainly weapons and armor)
accessible through pristine fractal relics.
4. Also I see every 2-3 months people complaining about how hard it is to aquire the
right fractal weapon everyone wanted. It took me over 1000 fractal runs to get my
fractal greatsword doing 5 fractal 49 dailys a day, having 5 characters above 50 and
getting 2 fractal skins on an average of 5 runs per day.
5. There are also tiny fixes and polishments which won’t require too much of a rework
like fixing the camera in some encounters like the grawl fractal.
6. So I don’t really see why not opening up the level scale for people like you and me
who like to have some harder content. We should get back to the roots where
animation telling and doding ment a thing we don’t need higher agony past 50 to
make the dungeon more difficult. There are a lot of ways to improve it.
7. The instabilities are a good point, imagine they apply a new one on every single
stage of fractals, how would it be? People would actually go for their level.
8. You can make instabilities with anti stacking or anti ranged mechanics, where only
three people are allowed to melee and two have to be in a 600 range so you can t
stack up or you will trigger some kill mechanic. The possibilities are wide open.
9. It’s also simple to fix the rolling part at the beginning of fractals by simply making a
5min instance where you have a short boss encounter and kill some trash mobs
before the actual fractal starts. No one would take those 5min all over to simple roll
for it again.

I just want to say I’m happy for playing this game since it makes a lot of fun even if it needs some polishment. I know the way from discussing and implementation is long but I’ve already seen changes going on for the last two years. So it makes me hopeful!

Bart just seems to have an enormous ego because he got to fractal 80. While that is impressive it doesnt mean he should undervalue the difficulty in using full dps gear, full melee in fractals. The game could and should be a lot harder in high fractals but its still not something someone should smirk at considering how few people can survive consistantly in such situations. Making fractals a lot harder would satisfy me and im sure Bart aswell. But the community has a very large player base with players from all different skill levels. Most of which have extreme difficulty at learning very simply tells.

Anyway Bart, that was my point. Its not completely faceroll (you are exaggerating). You have to dodge or you will face plant. Any class in a dps spec other than warrior gets 1 shot in fractal 49 if they take an arch diviner auto attack to the face without aegis or some other decent damage mitigation (I could be slightly wrong about this but I know my necro does if I dont use DS). So for people who arent very experienced it is very unforgiving and not something you should look down on.

While you don’t need to offend me since we sit in the same boat,
at least you agree on my points.

I wouldn’t say going up to lvl 80 was impressive, it took us like 2 weeks in our summerbreaks but it was a hell lot of fun. I like how people evolve while content gets harder by thinking out of the box. Using different equipment, runes, consumable, weapons, skills which never had a use before. After collecting all 19/19 fractal wpns, some more thn 15 times, like the 1h sword and after over an infinite time spent on fractal runs, I saw mostly everything to even exchanging the grawl shamans arrow with an valentine’s rose. I give credit to people who are innovative like running 3 orbs by a time in the swamp fractal. I tried it by myself right after since I never took the trap into consideration. I found the idea brilliant. My point is just killing lupicus naked or getting bored by dps checks on a poor arah veteran or doing a dungeon path in 6min or 7min shouldn’t be my endgame content even if coming up with sth like the portal action in caudecus manor is quite a creative idea.

Some people don’t get they can’t simple join and leave a hotjoin match whenever they want, otherwise they will get no rewards for their effort spent.
Note: Rewards are only given to you at the end of a match and not when you are leaving.

So it would be better to just remove hotjoin and let only the custom arenas remain to have more people attaining soloq for a better matchmaking and for the health of this mode. There is no need to split the community apart.

Thanks for the post infantrydiv. Your take on the situation is incredibly insightful and well thought out. I really appreciate your constructive feedback on where the game is and where it should go to accomodate players at all levels.

Do you feel that Solo Arena has any benefit to a player for learning how to play as a team?

Responding to your question John, I certainly think it does! Firstly it’s an more equal playing field since maps r designed for 5vs5s and pl who actually care about the win start to discuss before the match begins, some even reroll their class or at least talk if an enemy engages, he needs help or if a point is save.
I ve never seen such things happen in hotjoin.

if you play a 4vs5 in soloq for the majority of the games length, the loss shouldn t count to your personal score, just to the one who left.

Also implement /resign and /report afk

If you are done with tht remove the observe mode from hotjoin and implement it so, u can replay your previous tournement match as well as matches played by top teams!

While i agree unavoidable agony is a terrible gear gate for high level fractals. You are somewhat out of date with the game. Farming cof hasnt been a thing and hasnt been possible for several months now. Fractals are not afk facerolled in zerker. While the agony system forces us to gear for fractals and the agony damage is no longer a threat, we still have to dodge attacks and use skill and CC to survive the regular attacks in dps gear.

Well, I rly don’t kno how you can struggle on their normal attacks, the groups i’m used to just need to get their 100b’s through and have to dodge once or twice, but i wouldn’t call tht effort. Maybe you should watch some guides to improve your tactics.

I rly appreciate some higher difficulty scaling for the non casuals at least.

I would rly appreciate some challenging content. Also make the mistlock instabilities random on each new fractal you can get, makes your experience at least a bit more exciting.

Well, it’s simple, atm the only challenge is farming enough cof to buy agony resistance to afk at the boss and push autoattack in a fullzerkspec, why do you spent time on designing unique boss encounters whn afterall u give pl enough agony resistance tht they don t even have to dodge. Pay to win shouldn t be the fractal mentality, i would rather have some rly hard encounters, which pl can challenge even if they use no ar at all, just bc they kno how to dodge and react to the enemy. The whole unavoidable agony is pointless (lvl 40,50etc) should i rly just play with the rich pl instead of pl who kno how to play? Whn you release fractals with an higher difficulty scale (thn fractal lvl 80 was before, which still was a walk in the kitten in my opinion) thn pls exclude those barriers,… thr r rly pl around who want challenging content and don t care about the rewards but pls gate thm behind skill and not behind how much cash you got.

the skill is totally fine, warriors didn’t adopt yet to the movement of pistol whip thieves,…
if you think the skill is too overpowerd why don’t you make it how it was before?
Thrs only this spec for thief in tpvp left since the other two options got nerved

Nice would be a vendor who exchange 1 or 10 of any crafting material for sth,… doesn t need to be useful but better thn making sth out of it tht u alrdy have to salvage it and repeat till nothing is left or u r out of glory for the sake of salvage kits…
would u mind changing the dye craft conversion rate into 10 of each not 10 x and 1y, tht s some very weird conversion which will nva make the cut to craft sth useful or at least worthy u got thr,…

PVE

Proposal Overview
1h Sword should not root (because it prevents dodging)
Reef Drake should have his underwater reflect skill aswell above water
Serpent’s Strike should cause another condition than poison (bleeding/torment)

Goal of Proposal
Making ranger useful in pve and not the first person to kick when entering an instance
Ranger needs more reflects to justify himself in a party
Poison is already covered by so many skills and bleeding or torment would be way more useful if ranger has to compete with a necro condition build

CDI- Fractal Evolution

1. Fractals used to be a high end dungeon, where skilled players were looking for their
challenge.

At the moment it’s just pay to win, people have 75AR and literally facetank every agony attack, they don’t even know how to dodge it or even know about the exact attack, it becomes even worse if you have lvl 40/50 where skilled players don’t even have the chance to dodge. Who is not rich gets excluded and skill gets removed.

2. Mistlock instabilies should be randomly applied on each fractal and not fixed on a level

3. Exclude Rings from the Daily Chest and make it so, that just fractal weapons / asc weapons and asc armor can drop (or at least from 40+)

4. Pristine Relics should be exchangeable for asc gear/armor/trinkets
not only rings, since you need AR to progress.

5. Grawl camera fix (make it so, tht you can actually see what’s going on)

Like before the fractured patch!

6. Their should be a compensation for everyone who has his fractal level 80 removed

A fractal tonic would actually represent the effort pretty well and would be a nice give away for the effort.

Spvp structure improvement

1.The soloq ladder should be removed since it’s not representative.
It’s impossible for a single person to carry another four in a capture based mode.
If you for exp. have a 4vs5 the outnumbered team is losing in most cases and
four other random teammates shouldn’t be able to decide the outcome of your actual rating since it’s yours and shouldn’t be affected by others at all.
2.Hotjoin servers should be removed aswell, it’s not necessary to split the community into two pieces, if you have more people in soloq you have quicker matches and also a nice reward with the 450 rank point bonus if you win at the end of a match. The argument hoping in and out of hotjoin if you want to play some matches is just not valid since you only get rankpoints and glory at the end of a match and not after you for exp. killed a person.
At least the servers you are able to rent/host should stay since they provide mode diversity (for exp king of the hill) or allow people to test things out on their private server also they are very good for self initiatives no matter what.

Adjustments

1.Displayed casting times for skills and their name so that they are easilier readable for newcomers and to understand while they play against another profession/race.
2. The possibility to switch skills and select between the weapon sets like with your utility skills, so that you can easily rerange them (for exp. switch shield skill four with five) This also opens for releasing new weapon skills in the future

Long term goals and not as easy to implement

1. Mode diversity (new game modes) based on 5vs5 or tinier groups
(there is no need to go bigger since it’s hard to balance and even harder to form groups, I saw a lot of interesting interaction happening trying out 3vs3 for example)
2. Some sort of serverwide heart of the mists
(maybe even for NA/EU players to play together and form teams)

Would you penalize them for splitting?

There should be a two weeks time frame you have to stay in one guild to play the tournaments with (note: I’m not talking about rated matches). In the season there are daily / weekly tournaments you have to attend to qualify for the seasonal tournament which happens at the end of each season, to show which is the best guild of the season. After each season the ladder resets aswell to avoid having the same team in the top scoreboard with several names or removing dead guilds/teams from the list. Note there is just one guild/team who is able to take the cup.

What types of rewards would you include for each ‘division’ on the ladder?

Rewards are nice to have but not the primary objective. Gold/gems are no rewards in the form of prestige and aren’t worth to actually play for. A cape with a gold/silver/bronze trim would be more noticeable around the world. Also there are the options with backpieces (possible capes aswell), weapons/armor only obtainable through tournament WINS or for example dyes which have for exp. no real color but effects like clouds/storm/rainbows.

Tiny spvp improvements with high impact

1.There must be a “/resign” function for solo and teamq
If everyone of your team knows the game isn’t winnable anymore and everyone is afk in base just to end it quicker there must be a function to end the match. If someone types /resign there will be no action but if everyone comes to the same agreement and types it in the game should be over.
It’s better to have it this way then punish a group with a leaver and fights 4vs5 for another 8minutes.
2. Also there should be the function to report someone who is afk on purpose for the rest of the match so people who actually abuse the system get their debuff and sorted out for the next match.
(4 penalties and after the 5th taking action sound still fine).
3.A tutorial in the heart of the mist or a sentence at the beginning of each match telling every player not to get rank points for the points he scored! He receives just the same amount of rank points as everyone else in his team at the end of each match. The internal scoreboard and getting points for kills/capturing are misleading for a lot of newcomers. Imagine 4 persons on the same spot to capture a single point cause they want those 10 points for their rankup.
4. The observe mode should only be able to retrospectively display your last match and matches of top teams playing at the current time. You don’t need an observe mode in hotjoin to look at not proper geared teammates you need to observe the top teams and your own errors to get good.

I will take the time to talk about all my thoughts concerning spvp.

How would you design it?

The ladder/season system should display a team not a single person since the format is based on a 5vs5. I think the easiest method to implement this is to post the actual guild name for the team, it’s also easy to just make a guild for a team since you can have more than one. If you think further, it’s important that not anyone of the guild is allowed to start a match which counts for your actual guild rating. The easiest solution would be to have guild officers allowed to launch a match, if you have 5 people in your guild/team you can easily grant everyone this rank, if you have a greater guild, let’s say around 40 people let the officers be responsible of what they are doing.

How would you incentivize teams to stay together?

I think it’s important to have at least 3 of 5 people of your guild to start a match. The possibility to have two guests is important if someone disconnects in a tournament and isn’t able to log back on or if there’s simply not everyone online and you want to start a rated match (reason therefore could be some more points to qualify for an important tournament). Teams would stay together if you bind the seasonal reward to a guild/team. If a person has more than a single guild/team he will only get the rewards for the guild he achieved the highest rewards with.

Errormessage or Keylogger?

I play the game in english but log in from Germany, after logging out i received this message in a weird looking capture which told me to let my files be verified and repaired through GW2. Of course i didn’t click yes or no. Everytime i tried to login this capture pooped up again. Then I rebooted my pc and everything was back to normal.
So is this some 3rd party programm which tried to hack my account or is this actually something intended from gw2? To be honest i’ve never seen such a weird looking capture after any previous error message.

SPvP Salvaging Problem

So after dumping over 3mio glory points into wintersday gift’s , lvl up tomes and exotic armor the stream on friday announced you guys gonna remove glory in march, so what is gonna happen to all my tournement chests in my inventory, will they simply be removed? There is no way to buy soo many salvage kits that i can salvage all tournement chests till the end of march since most people, even I simply have too many of them. Also we have stacks of each crafting mat already so if we farm another 100k glory just to salvage them all, what should we do with all the mats? Crafting dyes for another 200k glory since we got such a bad conversion of powder and sliver which should be more like 1:1? I tried to salvage my first stack of tournement chests, all i could do was deleting most of the craft materials and i got nearly no luck or dyes out of it, please tell me how is this supposed to work! Thanks in advance

1h sword has to be reworked (rooting issue as well as the skills)
Evade should at least make bleed or torment for greater use not poison!

Also you have to be able to walk while doing ur offhand axe reflect whirling attack
and that one drake needs the reflect skill on command aswell above ground like already used in underwater combat.
