@Lord Reks – That is perhaps the most insightful and brilliant constructive criticism I have seen in our days. I appreciate your advice, and I know the hosts and myself are doing what we can to bring in players who make a difference in the community. We do have several restrictions in that we can only go as far as the guests we have on have gone or that we know about. In the Ranger podcast for example, they rarely go into WvWvW because neither player knows any great WvWvW Rangers, though we do get them from time to time. However, they have talked lvl 40-50 fractals because Jin Drake has been there.

I am sure that Amadeus has added you to his possible future guest list because it is something we look at and hope to provide.

On that Note, we would love to allow you or any other Engineer who would like to stream some high level fractals/WvWvW/PvP during one of our non-show days.

Siphoned Power – Oh noes, I’m going to die in .5 seconds… If only I had some MIGHT! Now I will die with better stats.

Blood to Power-5% damage that will proc roughly never because you will always get focused first? The 5% damage that only helps power builds and is deep in the Vitality/Healing tree… Don’t need that.

These two made me laugh so hard. No one specs in the healing tree anyways, because of horrid scaling, but the Siphoned power trait never made sense to me haha.

Bas.7406

Sorrow in this instance you are 100 percent wrong. The reason CC is so strong is because it’s our only viable form of sustain without it we are 100 percent dead to any team with a strong condition plus pressure team. It needs to be a big heal to allow us to sustain better.

Without the power of CC we are going to be punished severely and without recourse. Teams currently push the necro until he is forced into ds, than they push him with conditions until he uses consume. Now they know he has no sustain and can drop him easily.

If you want to nerf CC than you have to give us the ability to sustain in a fight to make WoB and BM a more viable form. As other players have said WoB is okay if you are not being focused. Unfortunately we are always focused and have no viable sustain currently.

Nobody is right thought, that if you become popular or advertise yourself, expect opposing oppinions to follow as well. And I don’t think you can afford to be dismissive or condescending, but I understand that this thread should be about the podcast, and not about the balance patch. There are plent of threads about that.

I agree that Nobody is right heh. Jin and I spoke about this exact point earlier this week after I saw this thread. He overreacted to what he perceived to be a player who was trying to turn the community into a negative community what he really didn’t want to see become the New Necromancer community :P.

From someone who came from a poisonous caustic community (the necromancer community was awful) and as the head of SOACGaming, I apologize on behalf of SOACGaming for some of the comments made on air and as well as on this thread. However, Jin is right in that negative attack focused threads that do nothing but mock devs are unproductive, and have no place on the forums. The forums should be a place to go for help and guidance, not a flame war or an attack on the developers justified or not.

SOAC and ATTK pride themselves on bringing players on that provide opinions on every facet of play. However, we will not bring someone on who has nothing constructive or productive to contribute. Bringing in players who do nothing but post how stupid devs are or how bad something is does not benefit or help the community.

We have had players on who our hosts don’t agree with Xsorus is one of them, and I believe jubskie hammered Jin about his opinion on certain pets. This is a part of the show, and if there is someone who has provided a contructive and helpful post than we do what we can to showcase them. We have no desire to turn the show into a let me get on a pedestal and rant about how awful it is to be a ranger.

We would much rather take the opportunity to point out that while we think some of the changes were not as good as advertised it’s not as bad as you think. We at SOAC and ATTK feel that there is a valid and helpful way to play and work within the game to better the community and by doing so provide educated and constructive ways to fix the class. It’s one of the things that Battosai does so well, and Jin Drake really strives to provide that input.

As for cross professions, we will get into doing that once all the shows hit their 10th show. We don’t want to start doing cross profession until all the shows get into a good rhythm. It’s definitely something we have been working on since our very first But of Corpse show.

As for getting devs on the show, it’s something we are always working on, but that requires us to get a dev for each show, and that takes a lot of their time.

One way or another, it needs to be agreed to in writing or on recorded video what the outcome of this tourney will mean. We shouldn’t just try to engineer the fights so as to not allow wiggle room: we should have everyone involved eliminate it entirely before the outcome is known.

1). Altroll is playing the Necromancer with his team. I would not do this if he wasn’t going to play.

2). The only thing to decide is if he is correct that his builds work within the framework of his team. We will figure out if it actually works against top level teams.

3). I asked him to run a standard team comp with his guys, and not 5 necromancers.

4). The goal is to have him face at least 3 teams. I really want to see his bunker build in action.

This isn’t a witch hunt. I think Altroll is a smart guy who simply doesn’t have the ability to communicate his point as effectively as he should. So I am giving him the format to prove that if someone plays it right his builds are the best.

I know that SOAC Blue is in. What I would like to do is 3-4 games Best of 3 with Altroll taking one of his builds and his handpicked team and fighting up a scale degree of difficulty. Such as first game would be against AOTM or Pink than say a team like Lost than Blue than possibly Red.

If you have a team that you would like to get in on the match let me know.

I think you guys took a statement way out of context, but this is hilariously funny. I believe the question asked referred to Shortbow and Longbows range and that many players wanted shortbows range back as well as Longbows being extended farther.

He essentially stated that would be a bit unbalanced, and that many feel the Longbow isn’t that attractive. They didn’t see a reason in to bump the shortbow to the LB because they fill the same role and then then many players would say the LB was unattractive.

The role of the LB is supposed be long range bomber, if you have two weapons doing the same thing they become redundant. I got to spend a few hours talking shop with Chaplan recently, and his explanation which is easily taken out of context if all you hear is Shortbow makes LB unattractive than you missed the context. He was saying that Longbow’s role is clearly defined as the Long Range attack for the Ranger, but that the Shortbow was filling that role, and rather than having two weapons do the same thing. They wanted to make sure the LB’s role was used and making it more attractive.

There is nothing wrong with this statement. It’s your understanding of his comment, and listening to Battosai’s actual question to realize what he was saying.

YOu can do 5 Necromancers, but I would prefer an actual team. Proving that 5 necros can hold their own isn’t the same as proving that your build can be worked into another team comp.

Actually, I will do you one better Altroll. We will host the Might Altroll championship of awesome builds.

You get a team for your team builds, and your solo builds. I am sure I can find a group of guys just itching to duel you in your primo awesome dueling builds.

I will stream it and shoutcast it. We will give you the opportunity to talk about your Meta build before the duels explaining (without yelling) how the build is supposed to work. Than you and your hand picked team can face off against the teams that I will find to face you.

We can start off with say SOAC Blue and Lost (I am sure Avarice wouldn’t mind). I am pretty positive I can get pink and AOTM to jump in on this as well. Then we will also host the 1 on 1 tournament all featured around players who think they can top you.

So now the ball is in your court? Are you up for the challenge or will you stick to letting the forums be your court?

I would gladly duel Altroll with all his awesome builds, and will stream it so everyone has the privilege of seeing the greatness of his builds. Everyone knows I am semi-decent player who plays well within the framework of a team. So beating me shouldn’t be that hard if your builds are as amazing as you say they are.

So there we go – i will gladly showcase your builds in a duel against myself and/or Gibbly on twitch.tv/soacgaming – Beating me is nothing, and you have said you are better than Gibbly so this should be a great way to showcase and feature your builds.

Necro confirmed OP by Anet

Bas.7406

For months on end Terror builds were used by ppl, som even considered it a gimmick. Now all of a sudden it’s OP and the dmg is getting nerfed.
Remove this ridiculous burning crap trait instead of messing with something that’s been working fine for months.
But a thief that can backstab for over 2/3 of your hp, being able to disengage like crazy and perma stealth is not op right. Instead of ppl whining like little kittenes about necro, learn to play and counter it.
Guess anet wants everyone to either play a 5 signet 100b warrior or a one button spam thief. God forbid ppl actually having to use their brains or face anything short of a challenge. -_-
And they are surprisingly fast with announcing the nerf for necro when some noobs start crying. But when the necro community is screaming for a bug fix (downed state bug, etc) for months on end, we’re ignored. Sense, it makes none!

Watch state of the game – Zombify one of the top Necromancers, mentions the craziness of playing Necro right now. He said, it’s fun, but some minor changes would be needed. His feeling is that everyone is kind of in a state of wtf, because they are used to just training necros without worrying about being killed off, now they will die. The problem is a good necro will take out 2 people for every time he might go down.

The power is a bit too much right now, but we need it to keep moving because we are still as squishy as before.

@cyst I run with soldiers

Hey Bas, thanks for the reply, couple more question that hopefully you can answer -
1.what kind of conditionmancer are you running for your team fights?

I don’t like condition builds, but I think the standard builds are 30/30/10 or 0/30/10/0/30 (Gibbly)

2.You stated that when you ran MM you would do a similar thing and go straight to mid to defeat the bunker-
-You also said that a good power necro would blow through a MM.
Therefore (heres my theory) Do you think its safe to say that the same power necro would do just as well with your previous MM’s job of running to the center?

Yes and no! Yes it could do it faster. No in that you will get trainwrecked if you make a mistake. The MM gives you a great opportunity to stay alive longer.

3.I honestly do not like minions and would love to ditch them, but I have had great success with them in terms of tanking,1v1, 2v1, and others. Its hard for me to switch when i absolutely burn through all the necros I see? I’m hoping that if you elaborate on your conditionmancer build or power build I can adapt those to my play style and achieve better result (since thats what I am seeing in mist league)?

If you adjust your build, your team needs to know you will be more squishy, and your Mesmer or Ele needs to be ready to peel off you when trouble arrives.

The problem with necros currently, and the reason for the cry is very simple.

1. have 40 percent crit and get dhuumfire to proc.

2. Flip to ds and get torment on everyone.

3. chain 2 fears together

This can be done in less than 3 seconds, and a player has no ability to respond during this time, because fear is ticking, you forced the extra torment damage, and burn is crazy powerful. It’s really strong right now but terror nerf isn’t what’s needed.

yes, cause the target is NOOB AND DOESNT HAVE ANY CLEANSE/STUN BREAKER.. and thats necros fault???

I wasn’t explaining that it happens. I was simply showing why people want it nerfed. I do it often enough. It’s hilariously funny and easy to do in hotjoins and queue’s. You can’t pull it off against a semi intelligent player though.

we run with a engi, war, guard, MM necro (me) and another (mesmer/ranger/Ele). I ALWAYS go mid point right away. and surprisingly I am normally the last one standing IN THE THICK of it. I Mean I am tanky with all these minions. I normally blast my little buggers when they are low and just do overall aoe dmg and CC.

Bas noted that the MM is not viable in team fights, but from my (granted, not as vast) experience I have been doing really well, I eat up 1v1s (especially non-MM necros), and can stay alive in 2v1 3v1s long enough for help. Almost always turn the tide in 2v2s. I have found that I can stay alive MUCH longer then my previous power style builds, as well as put out more dmg with my minions.

I noted that they are not as good as a power or Condimancer in a team fight. 1v1 the MM can be ridiculously good. I used to be a part of a top tPvP team as an MM. I ran 20/0/30/20/0. I ran mid point and my job was to kill the bunker quickly. You can run MM, but your team has to be built around the fact that you have zero aoe pressure. Your team seems to be built around your deficiences as an MM.

Is it viable at most levels of play? Absolutely, because people don’t know how to kite. I was in mid fight one day with a guardian, and he just dodge rolled and avoided most of my damage. This is the downside to it.

My Issues/Questions
My issues with it are bone fiends rigor mortis is Incredibly hard for me to land? does anyone have any tips for landing this?

Cripple, Chill, than hit it when they are close. You don’t have to be on them just withing 200-300.

Does anyone have a non-MM build that can beat MM builds 1v1?

thanks for reading

1 v 1 against an MM is tough, but a good power Necro running 30/10/0/0/30 would blow through one if he was smart.

There was another thread created for the sole purpose of trolling this thread and was honestly surprised by the negativity and number of followers. There is a lot of criticism in this thread as well that has nothing to do with being constructive but just another battle of egos.
Too much elitism and I think it is time to let it go.

Read the whole thread. No one was being elitist. They were pointing out flaws to some of the builds, and he reacted aggressively. His last few posts have been much better, but the reason for the arguments was that players were supportive and encouraging while adding some points that he might want to look at. No one has any issue with the builds, though they do have flaws. The issue was the response to constructive criticism.

Good tidings Ladies and Gents,
Welcome to the most recent ATTK podcast episode, first of all.
In this episode, the controversial subject of the last patch notes is addressed by the ATTK duo and the wisdom of the one they call Jubskie.
In light of the recent outcry over the changes to the Ranger class, we decided it would be helpful to take all the patch notes and break them down into to what it really translates to our game play. Right off the start it’s important to understand the Ranger class is based on adaptability, as it gets more commonly referred to as the Jack of all trades.
With this in mind, we mean to argue that the class is by no means broken, and if anything it’s more balanced and actually improved from it’s former status.
Arenanet shows concern over us, and takes away a small part of what we can do, as a sacrifice for the build diversity we all keep wanting. Finally we see trait rework, bows being looked at and improved/re-balanced, new cc being added to axe off-hand and more. There are some 2 points where we think the hammer hit the hardest, but neither brakes us or even eliminates us from the current meta.
The Ranger is here to stay, friends.
To all our viewers, thank you very much for your continued support.
Join us next week as we welcome back Lunchbox for some more FOTM goodness!

Yeah, when I play, I usually bash my head on my keyboard and hope for the best.

See, there you go,, you should have rolled a guardian. It’s much easier to play that with just the head banging that way :P

Well it took about an hour to get five podcasts from YouTube to my phone. I’m all set for learning some necro stuff, starting with episode one. Thanks for the help Bhawb.

I just got the audio fixed on all the past episodes. We had to reset the wordpress back an update so it would work correctly. I will have last week’s episodes up tonight.

I am staying away from the mockery on this thread, but this has to be the funniest thread there is running right now.

lol… you’re not engineering a space shuttle…
acting like you’ve invented something big,
this is just a game. everyone can make a build that works for them, no science… really

Actually it is a science, there is a lot of math, graphs, and analyzing, testing, and proving in order to make a build. It’s as much of a science as great gameplay is an art form. If you don’t think watching great gamers play is an art form than you are missing out. Watch Jumper, Zombify, Zoose, Koroshi, Teldoo, Helseth, or Danto play and then watch me play, and you will see the beauty in how they play. The constant weaving of skills while keeping everything going.

It’s incredible how once a mistake is made a top player will say, “He is dead, but he just doesn’t know it yet.” It’s a beautiful thing. They can do things that we can’t do at a level that most of us hope to come close too. If you don’t believe me watch the last mist league match with SOAC Blue versus OP. Watch how ridiculous Zoose is with the elementalist, than realize that the player he replaced for that game is still one of the top 10 at his position and couldn’t do what he did.

Most top PvP Necromancers don’t experiment or theory craft nearly enough. It’s those unique builds that I find on occasion when solo queuing that are truly amazing/ground breaking, and all of them were prepatch when we weren’t ‘viable’. I learned to NEVER judge a build at face value, but to experiment with it, test it, and improve upon it.

The rest of your piece was fine, but this is not even close to the truth. I have literally watched Zombify spend hours running with Minions to try and find a way to make them viable within a team framework just to see if he could use it. I watched him run wells and DS Stability builds to see if he could maximize his job.

Here is what you are forgetting. The reason Zombify runs 30/30/10/0/0 is because his job requires him to play that role. Double well with Epidemic. He is required to play that way, and this build fits within the framework of his team. Some of your builds are great, but most of them are builds I have seen a dozen times, and they are fine outside of team framework.

If I am running with a specific team comp, I need to make sure my build suits that comp. Gibbly has over 4k tournament games of prepping with multiple different setups until he found a build that fits both his plays tyle and the what his team needs from him.

Statements like yours above are both biased and as far off from the truth as can be. I remember sitting down with Zombify and Gibbly and explaining that as much theorycrafting and testing as they do Rennoko, Chips and PVE guys like Nemesis do as much for their craft as they do. They were shocked by the level of detail that non-tournament players invest into builds. Why? Because they thought the way that you do. You think your time spent is worth more than the time they spent.

You stated it yourself, you don’t play on a team or with a regular group so all of your builds are designed around doing things yourself they don’t reflect working with different players or team comps.

Did you know that Zombify has changed his build 4 times since the patch simply because it depends a great deal on who the other five guys on the team are, and who you are facing. You do not do more work than the top players. The guys you out think are the third and fourth tier players who simply copy and paste what the top guys do.

I am tired of both sides of the community acting like giant know-it-alls when all of you put in the work needed. The fact that you would bag on players like Symbolic, Gibbly, Anoobis, Zombify, and so on who have done absolutely nothing to you is a reflection of arrogance and not of intelligence. I have sat in on their build sessions, watched them sit there and spend 5 straight hours dueling and figuring out the right attacks to use when to use them and how to pop them. I have watched them start matches with ridiculously bad builds just to see if there was something they could pick up that they may have missed.

Your builds are fine. No one is arguing or saying you are an idiot. We wanted to thank you for it, but your blatant attacks on myself and the guys who rep SOAC is overboard and a bit ridiculous. The fact that you claim not to want attention, but then flame those who have a platform while trumpeting how much you do is completely contrary to that statement.

Anoobis is a guy who doesn’t want attention. It took us months to get him to appear on the show. He had no interest in discussing the builds he helped Zombify, Gibbly, or many of the other tournament players. In fact, when I asked him about the work he did, he complete dismissed me and said that they were just really good players and he just gave them a few thoughts. When he finally appeared on the show, all he did was deflect praise and then he disappeared afterward. He never created a thread about how great he was. When you say you don’t want attention that’s how it works.

Please lay off the attacks on the players. We have talked numerous times, and a lot of times we are on the same page. We just disagree on how to explain it. There isn’t a player who disagrees or doesn’t like that there is another player showing builds. However lay off the fake humility, and the self-tortured act. No one was trying to burn you at the stake.

Stick to theorycrafting and working with new players, and stop throwing other players under the bus. I think there is always something to learn from someone.

Okay, I am not sure why SOAC got thrown under the bus. We don’t theorycraft or profess to be a school of information on how to play. We simply have shows where we bring in players who contribute in a helpful and postive way, and we bring them from all aspects of the game to simply talk about the class.

I think what Altroll does and what we do is not the same, but it’s pretty awesome to think that we are considered leaders in the theorycrafting community.

Two side notes, that I think Altroll did not mean to say, but came out.

Minions are viable in every from of pve. They make it ridiculously easy to play. They are not viable in wvwvw zerg play but are fine in 5 man havoc squads though the pathing issues in wvwvw make it really difficult. They are not viable in high end wvwvw play.

Wells are ridiculously effective in wvwvw zerg play, and are ran in just about every high level wvwvw necromancer currently. Double wells with Epidemic is easily played in wvwvw, and though Ascii can actually state whether I am wrong here, but I am pretty positive based on the well-known players like Rennoko, talentless, and so on that it’s the easiest way to play in a zerg.

As for the rest, Mighty has a tendency to go off the hook on a few points, but as a theorycrafter he is very solid. As a debater or person who takes criticism well that’s an entirely different story.

I will have to say I have never actually faced him in a queue for pvp, nor have I ever ran into someone who has. I am not saying he doesn’t pvp, but I think it would be interesting to see how many of the top teams he has crushed remembers it? Perhaps you can give us some names of players you have destroyed.

I have talked to many of his “students” in the game. They all agree that he is a very helpful teacher, and that many of his points are strong. I am sure they would defend him if he wasn’t such an angry teacher at the moment.

Sikari's Push to Revive the MM Necro!

High Warlord is the only MM Necro that I have ran into that has consistently beaten my MM necro. I tend to pretty easily stomp the rest or split the fights like when Bhawb and I fight, but for the most part I have lost to the warlord.

My input is simple. Minions will never be in the “Meta” so to speak simply because top players hate AI determining a kill. They may be viable, but they will always suffer in team fights for multiple reasons.

Necromancers who face MM in a team fight can stack conditions on a minion and then use it to spread conditions without ever worrying about it being cleansed.

MM die easily to any class with strong aoe. Once the minions are dead, you lose a significant portion of your ability to survive.

This means that an MM really can only be the back point defender or you have to drop full MM (which is always best). the problem is the Necromancers doesn’t have the ability or mobility to push far point and then retreat to back point as engineers, thieves, elementalists, Mesmers, and rangers do.

This means in team fights is where the necromancer is strongest and minions are exposed because they can be taken down, used as ways to project damage onto other teammembers without an out, and they are single target 1v1 destroyers, but thieves, Mesmers, and warriors all do it faster which in tournament pvp is more importants so AOE pressure from condi necros, and ridiculous damage from power necros are more necessary to teams.

Arrow To The Knee: July 26th - J. Roh

Ridiculous is the amount of hatred toward rangers………Anet said months ago that rangers should learn to use their pets, we learnt and now they hit us with a BIG NERFhammer, they make stealth nerfs too ( barrage have a 40-50% damage nerf)

They nerfed pet damage because it was bordering on ridiculous levels. In every single episode of Attk, Battosai kept repeating how insane pet damage was, and that half the time he could sick his pet and wipe out multiple people while he was standing back watching his back point.

Shortbow itself was the only weapon taken that was ranged because the auto on it hit harder than LB, and it’s range and damage needed to be brought down because it was ridiculous that it could fire so fast, and hit harder than just about any other weapon. Spirit pets needed love, and I thought they got it, but it looks like they didn’t.

If you didn’t think that SB needed a nerf and pets needed their damage brought down a bit than you weren’t watching the same games everyone else was. The only people freaking out are the people who were carried by the massive pet damage an only knew how to hit 1 on the shortbow.

Look you have to learn to fight a new way. So what? I still see rangers all over the place, no team is kicking rangers off. They are still viable at all levels of play, and in the hands of a skilled player they are tough to handle. The biggest change is there is now a skill level on the Ranger.

You can’t just send your pet in, hit auto attack on your shortbow, let your pet kill the opponent, and if he gets close swap to s/d and evade and dodge infiinitely until you get back to health.

The Barrage nerf is baffling since LB hits so weak and takes forever to do it.
