Wat is this I don’t even

Anyone see any good D/P videos? I would say I’m pretty good at it, but far from great, and would love some more tips.
The videos I see out on youtube seem to feature thiefs killing people who are 1/2 dead or have blown all of their cooldowns. I know how to kill those people.
Like I imagine most people, my big problem is balancing survivability with burst damage. I often run 0/0/30/30/15. I can do a 3 on 1 if they aren’t good. It’s a good setup but no way I can kill a good D/D Ele or a guardian. I just can’t burst worth a crap.
I went to 10/0/30/30/5 (Something like that I’m at work now so I’m not sure) for mug. It’s better but not great.
I’m running a PTV chest and the rest Zerk. Shortbow backup. I’m thinking I need to run a sword/dagger backup, PTV more of my gear and spec higher in the fist 2 lines.
Here is one of the best D/P I have seen, and this is back from BW3

So, either MwS doesn’t work correctly with BP->HS, or the wiki is incorrect.
Tested BP>HS in the Mists with a 0/0/0/0/0 build and the stealth lasts 3 seconds.
Meaning MwS doesn’t affect it (Also the wiki is correct).
I posted this yesterday in the Bug Reports section of the forums

Having your heal up every 15 seconds is wonderful in WvW zerging, especially when you throw in all the stealthing and confusion in the zerg.. It makes it really hard for someone to pin you down. I see people chasing me give up all the time out of frustration.

I notice many D/P thieves use withdraw I still use HIS. With the infusion of shadow trait I don’t see why you would want to take withdraw over HIS.
I run 0/20/30/20/0/0 16,995 hp. I take side strikes and practice tolernace in crit tree. The normal traits in shadow arts, in acro I take fleet shadow and quick recovery. I get about 6-7k backstab crits with 25bloodlust stacks if its a lowbie I get an occasional 9k or 10k but the 10k has only came once.
Why do some of you prefer withdraw over HIS? I feel like if your running infusion of shadow that HIS is a no brainer I have tried withdraw but I feel like HIS is better with D/P.
I did take critical haste as I like that trait but it was more for S/D(other weaponset) than d/p but dropped it since I feel like if I am not hitting someone from the back or side I am doing it wrong so side strikes is much better for me.
Probably because we already have access to stealth with black powder and heartseeker. I find Withdraw to me much more useful in WvW for getting me out of bad situations. I also use blinding powder, and with the shadow rejuv and shadow protector traits, this effectively turns blinding powder into an mini instant hide in the shadows. High five for having dang near the same build as mine.

I have had some really fun and frustrating fights the past few nights. Thanks guys and keep it up, we really have a beautiful thing going on here in T2.

You have some good ideas here. Though I am saddened by the fact that mesmers have far more useful stealthing tools in WvW than thieves do. This seems like a crime to me.

I am traited into Shadow arts and have meld with the shadows. It seems to me that this minor trait is not being applied to the smoke field leap finisher. When I use black powder then heartseeker through the smoke field, I am only being granted 3 seconds of stealth ( 2, 1, 0).

I use D/P with 25/15/30/0/0 with Mug, Dagger Training, Side Strikes, Infusion of Shadow, Shadow’s Embrace and Shadow Rejuvenation.
My second set is either SB, S/P or S/D depending on my mood, although I like S/D the most.
Can you link your build?

People would rather whine than to learn to counter. I am one of the few people in my guild that can consistently beat other thieves. Everyone else just whines. “Omg, they need to nerf stealth”, “Omg thieves are so annoying”. It will never end.

Nice video. I wish my WvW opponents would let me abuse stealth like that.

It’s a bug. You appear visible on your screen but enemies can’t see you until the stealth boon wears off.

IMO:
Zerker Weapons (Para Sigil/Ruby Orb) Zerker/Knight armor (50/50 w/ Power Runes Ala Scholar, but if you don’t have the $ just throw some ruby orbs), Soldier Trinkets w/ Ruby Jewels, and a Valk Amulet.
Lots of toughness, decent HP, high crit chance & + crit dmg. Mix with Truffle Ravioli is what I do (100 Tough/70 Vit).
Despite what Stiv said, I still think doubling down on toughness > raw damage.
(link to how I roll)
Very similar to my build for WvW. Someone has been paying attention to their crit damage optimization

Nice duels man, thanks. Ignore the haters, I don’t see them making videos…

kitten are you getting some of these items? That amulet has like 2X of an exotic amulet.

If you see something not adding up in the above calculator, then please report it to the author. This is by far the best calculator on the web. Also keep in mind that it assumes most passive and active traits are active in its final calculations, so it’s really a “best case senario”.

The shoulders do not look like krytan though. The pistols are Charr cultural.

I run almost the same build as fade. I feel it works very good for WvW where you need some survivability. Fade what’s your toughness with this build. The S/D is very good for stopping people from getting back in their keeps

Probably because of that annoying kitten root that shadow shot has that makes it a poor choice as a gap closer. If they removed this 1 second root I would probably run D/P more often.
[RET] of Fort Aspenwood
This is why the thief seems to have such a hard time staying in melee range with opponents who have steady access to swiftness. I wish the thief had better access to swiftness.
[RET] of Fort Aspenwood
Instead of D/D I will now be rolling D/P. Shadow Shot is a great gap closer and all the extra blinds are just awesome. Also using Heartseeker out of the smoke field from Black Powder gives you that extra stealth you need. Combined with the improved Smoke Bomb utility it’s great and super fun.
I really wish they would make black powder more reliable. I get really angry when I die to a pistol whip / 100 blades while they are standing in black powder. If they did this and cleaned up the animations a little bit I feel d/p would really be a strong weapon set.

Re posted from my other thread.
Here are some bugs I have noticed while playing my thief. Feel free you add your own. These are mostly PvP related.
- Stealth doesn’t stop players from channeling spells on you. If someone channels and long spell on you just before you stealth the channel will continue to hit you. I have had spells hit me for the entire duration of stealth, while at the same time revealing my location to the enemy (this is why autoface needs to be removed from the game).
- The trait Hidden Thief is currently bugged when using the short bow autoattack (1) skill. Attacking an enemy and stealing at the same time will break stealth. This probably has something to do with the travel time of the arrow.
- Signet of Shadows passive movement speed increase is not being applied while in combat. It is easy to see the thief pick up speed while out of combat.
- Infiltrators arrow seems to not work on some location while in combat, for example Battle of Kylo.
