They’ve constantly said that inclusion of a filter isn’t an excuse, the rules of conduct is quite clear about names and bad language. There’s even a separate document about the naming policy. Click on Legal Documentation at the bottom of the page.

But recently it seems that mods have been banning players with bad names on first offense and that is against policy so if this is your first name issue, open a support ticket.

You don’t find 1g+ major runes on pieces going for under 20s. You don’t find ones that consistently sell for over 5s.

So lets limit runes to 3s20c to 5s for your example.

Runes have an 80% chance with master kits.

(2266 * 0.9 + 320 to 500 * 0.8) * 0.85 – 1536/25 = 1888c to 2012c

Mats don’t add a lot to the equation. Light armor drop silk at 7c vending price and gossamer at 1s; medium armor drop thick leather at 7c vending price and hard leather at 15c; heavy armor drop mithril at 27c and orichalcum at 4s50c range. Because of that heavy armor is priced much higher than light or medium. Regardless what the description says, T6 mats drop infrequently. My last salvage run of 215 dropped only 35 T6 and 400 or so of vendor grade T5 silk and thick leather. That added on average another 20c each to the pot.

That still makes the average return around 19s70c. That makes buying light and medium armor at 20s a losing affair unless the “odds are ever in your favor”. Get a poor ecto return and the losses become noticeably larger.

What does an expansion buy you other than a lot of new content all at once? Where is it written that the LS can’t open up new areas on a permanent basis, introduce new races and professions?

The first two “expansions” in GW were really new games but set in a different part of the same world. What prevents something being discovered that will allow you to travel to the other continents from LA? And why can’t that be part of a LS arc?

Here’s an example, look at around noon on the 24th. Before the raw data got thinned out they were nice squares where the buy jumped from around 17s50c to 20s.

http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/1159-travelers-rogue-pauldrons-of-infiltration

Sell prices weren’t really affected. Bids increased a bit since then but that’s likely due to the increase demand. And like I said it was every rare level 80 armor with a rune who had a high bid bellow 20s had a 20@20s bid made within 5 minutes, which is doable manually. But as I said in my OP that’s over 400g of bids. Even if you were willing to eat a 10-20% loss it didn’t really affect bids after the 20s bids were pulled or fulfilled.

I could understand bidding that high if you looking to buy your player’s armor for less than what the low sell price was currently and you didn’t want to wait long but that’s a one off bid. And who buys level 80 rare armor for their character anyways.

It was just weird.

For some reason when first starting or switching to a new character it appears they enable you to see the world before all the world assets have finished loading. I haven’t noticed it in The Grove but I’ve seen this where you are and in areas of LA.

If they delayed the renderer from displaying until all the world assets have loaded there will be complaints about long load times (and there was a complaint recently about that and was “fixed”), even though moving in a world where you don’t see the walls is rather limited and you will be waiting anyways. I assume that the combination of the load time fix with the new client side culling code has led to this in very complex zones.

i just did the math and the average price to purchase a fused skin with claim tickets would be $315 worth of gems. lol nice one, anet.

$315 in gems translates into 280 keys. So you are running under the assumption of 1 scrap, 70 needed for a fused skin, from every 4 chests. You’ve ignored the chance of getting a whole ticket, each would be equivalent to 40 fewer chests needed based on your numbers. That’s a savings of $45.

Yes it’s still insane. Makes the EVE monocle look down right affordable. Talk about a luxury item.

Will anyone bother buying them when they hit 10g per 100 gems? It seems really stupid how it just keeps going up and up. I should of had a cap at 5g. I know there are ppl with money buying gems all the time but that just makes buying something from the gem store for in game gold a dream for new/poor players.

They harder they are to come by with ingame funds, the more likely you are to spend real money. Technically they can say “you don’t have to spend real money to get gems”, but you can see where that’s less than ideal if they can make it a big grind.

Not technically true, the harder they are to come by the more players leave because they cannot get anything, this will bite Anet in the populations sooner or later..

If you cannot afford anything in game, most do not whip out their Credit Card, many leave.

By your argument, free to play games should not have any players at all since you wouldn’t be able to purchase anything from their cash shops without paying real money. Yet, they do have players playing their games still. At least in GW2 you have the option of using in-game money to purchase things that are in the cash shop.

Just to emphasize the point, Nexon makes over a billion dollars US a year with F2P.

There is nothing in the Gem shop that’s a must have to play this game. Minor boosters, convenience and vanity items only.

Talk of gold/gem price inflation is hogwash.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Most of you have never traded on the stock/options market so you probably don’t understand “the spread”. The spread is the difference between the best buy offer, and the best sell offer.

Gems are more expensive now in game gold terms, and yes desired items on the trading post are more expensive than ever, but you can’t just buy your way into this game now. At least, not as easily as you could at the start of the game.

The price of gems, per game gold has climbed steadily since day 1.

The gems per real world money has stay constant.

But, the difference between “the price of gems for game gold”, and “the gold given for gems for sale” has steadily gotten farther and farther out of whack. This is called “the spread”, and Anet is using the spread as yet another gold sink.

Yeah you can pull out the credit card again to buy something you want, and you’ll get less for your money than you did at the start, but that’s because of “the spread”, and not because of “inflation”. Anet is steadily draining gold from this game.

I fully expect this post to be deleted.

No the difference in the two exchange rates is the same ratio as it always has been. The Gems to Gold is 72.25% (or 85% x 85%) of the Gold to Gems rate. There are no buy or sell offers at the exchange, it’s purely mechanical based on the ratio of internal pools of gold and gems at the exchange. As long as more Gems are bought than sold to the exchange, the more the rate will go up and the rate of rise will increase.

Gold for Gems was never the primary way to get Gems for the Gem Store. It’s always been cash and that cash pays ANet’s bills. The exchange is a service to those who drive the economy and as a means to provide the Gold sold to players for cash via Gem sales.

No cap, the price will increase at an ever faster rate each time they introduce a new “must have” item at the exchange.

Remember that Gold to Gems was never meant to be the primary way to buy Gems for use at the Gem store. It’s meant to be a minor reward as well as a means to transfer gold to the exchange, getting it out of the active economy. That gold is then used to pay players who sell their Gems to the exchange.

Gems price after a year of release

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Let’s go over how John Smith outlined the Gem Exchange again.

It was founded with a extremely large but finite supply of Gems and a much smaller amount of gold. The Gems you get when buying comes from this supply and Gold you get by selling gems come from this supply.

The exchange rate is the ratio between the amount of exchange Gems and exchange Gold. At the start to was around 100 Gems for every 25s. The Gold to Gems rate is this ratio divided by 0.85 while Gems to Gold rate is this ratio multiplied by 0.85.

As Gems are bought the amount of Gems in the exchange goes down while the amount of Gold at the exchange increases which makes the rate go up. Conversely buying Gold with Gems decreases the amount of Gold at the exchange while increasing the amount of Gems at the exchange which makes the rate go down.

This means the more Gems we buy, the more the rate increases. And since it’s a ratio it will increase at a faster and faster pace as the number of Gems in the exchange dwindle. The theory is that at some point the Gem to Gold rate, which increases at the same rate as Gold to Gems, will become attractive enough for players to by Gems with cash and exchange them for Gold. And once Gems entering the exchange balances the Gems leaving the exchange, the rates will stabilize.

Problem is too many players believe that Gold to Gems is the primary way to buy items from the Gem store. IT’s NOT, NEVER WAS. ANet need players to buy Gems with cash. That’s what pays the bills. The exchange has multiple purposes. First it’s ANet rewarding those who figured out a way to make a lot of gold in the game since they are driving the economy. Second, it allowed players early on a taste of what’s available at the Gem store with out needing to invest anymore money into the game. That’s the true purpose of BLTCs, it’s a Whitman sampler of Gem store items. Third, the exchange is also a way for ANet to sell gold without creating anymore other than the initial small exchange supply, the rest being player funded. Same is true with resupplying the exchange with Gems, it’s up to the players to sell Gems to the exchange. ANet will only create Gems for cold hard cash. So at some point in the future the Gems that are being bought for Gold WILL BE Gems that players once bought for cash. The exchange is truly an exchange.

The question now is does this method, as oppose to determining the rate of the proxy currency on an open market like it’s done in EVE or Wildstar is better or worse than the automated system we have. Of course in those games all the supply is player driven, there was/will be no seeding the supply of the proxy currency. So is our method encouraging players to adopt playing styles that focus solely on gold generation, which is self defeating in the long run as the rate goes up faster as more gems are bought than sold, independent of the actual change in money supply?

We are heroes. This is what we do!

is anything being planned to check inflation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Gem prices has shot up due to the 10 day sale of previous limited time items. Over a fifty five percent (honestly how is that number gets kittened) increase in the last month, over 30% in the last week. As long as they have items players want and are willing to pay gold vs cash for, gem prices will increase. Once the sale is over expect the rate to edge downward because on the bright side is Gems to Gold is now 3g79s per 100 gems and is going up at the same rate as well.

Also these events and reward changes are shifting both supply and demand on a number of goods and decreases in supply and/or increases in demand will affect prices independently of inflation. Our activities in the game determine the supply and if we are herded into different activities, not doing what we normally use to do, then supply gets messed up and prices increase.

Remember the collapse of copper ore prices when the F&F dungeon came out? Or when Ecto prices shot up right after they allowed them to be salvaged in T6 dust. That had nothing to do with inflation and everything to do with shifts in supply and demand.

I think the micro stuttering is due to the loading/creation of player models as they enter the “use actual model not placeholder” range based on the culling settings. I interpret the two culling settings as number shown Vs just nameplate and actual Vs placeholder.

In DR going back and forth between the merchant/vendor by the bank and the TP after a portal event I constantly see placeholder avatars that in a few seconds turn into the actual avatars and when I run back to where I started the player avatars that were actual are now placeholders for a few seconds before becoming actual again. Not a problem during a portal event since there are a lot fewer players there so everyone holds onto their actual avatar as I run back and forth.

Upgraded graphics will do you no good and upgraded CPU will only help marginally.

FPS games have a different standard in terms of frame rate, one based in history that they are used almost exclusively as benchmarking software for video cards so AMD and nVidia devote a lot of time and effort into making sure those games perform as well as possible. Same goes with the big name graphic engine makers like Unreal, Source, id Tech 5, etc. FPS games are their bread and butter so they concentrate on performance for FPS style games. They can be modified for MMO gaming but it’s a lot like attaching a tow hitch to a Corvette, not quite the right tool for the intended job.

That’s a 400g+ worth of offers there. It makes no sense in terms of flipping because there are plenty of supply under 23s and salvaging ectos and runes on average would be a loss as well unless the RNG is ever in their favor.

Overbidding is the nature of the TP PvP when you are looking to buy goods cheap. I accept that. 1 to 10c overbidding on 15-20s bids is common. What baffles me is multi-silver overbidding on items in the 16-17s price range to 20s when the low sell is under 22s. The gap is too narrow for flipping and the price is too high for salvaging for a profit.

So what marketing strategy I’m not seeing here. There is too much product on sale at bellow flipping profit to “wait it out”. And I’m not talking about a single or a couple of buy offers at 20s but 20 or more. Please help me make sense of this beyond somebody wanting to prevent others from making any money while losing money themselves.

That’s gachapon, also called gashapon or capsule toys. We have them in supermarkets by the candy and gum dispensers on the way out of the market. Our’s have rubber spiders, snakes or faux tattoos, in Japan they are collectible toys. Variations include blind boxes, a box toy that is one of a series illustrated on the back of the box.

As long as you go in knowing that it’s low odds that you will get a specific item then great. I think of BLTC as a Whitman Sampler of Gem store items. If I get something fantastic, great but I don’t expect it.

Still trying to figure out how to do all these unfair things. I need a guide to learn them so I can become outraged if they nerf it at a later date.

New Player: 'This game is too complex'

I agree the game could use a bit more of a tutorial to at least highlight the differences between the standard MMO tropes such as the triad and raiding. As well as something that could go over the entire UI. When you first pick a master for crafting, an overview of the crafting UI. You can’t cover the lack of any in game guidance by pointing to the wiki. Where do they even go over in game about invoking the wiki from in game?

“Mistakes” I made. First thought I needed to go to a waypoint to jump to a different waypoint. The fear that cities aren’t safe zones. Understanding what I was doing wrong with crafting discovery. Buying and equipping gathering tools. Not realizing the bank and TP is player not character aligned. What all the attribute numbers really mean.

The “if you only knew this” sticking in the player helping player board answers a lot of these question but you need to go on the forum to find out about it. And some players have been conditioned in other games not to ask newb questions on a game’s forum.

And yes, I hate helpful popups when you first discover something. I don’t want a popup to inform me I just did conditional damage for the first time while I’m in the middle of Jungle SpiderFest 2013. Put it in some discover tab that I can look at while not fighting for my life than in the middle of a screen as I’ve seen in some games.

Do the devs care about color blind gamers?

And it doesn’t need color blind mode, just choosing color pairs that still contrast when filtered to simulate the various forms of color blindness. It’s not undoable, just infrequently done when choosing color pallets.

Sell listings and buy listings does not necessarily equal supply and demand.

True enough but since we don’t see actual volume of what’s being traded it’s the best we have. Prices may be going up because players don’t mind paying more because they have more to spend. I harvested in the neighborhood of 500 ectos in the last 2 1/2 days and I have had no problem selling them at an ever increasing price, so I know that there’s a real demand for them.

Because supply is only one side of the equation. Let’s look a Vicious Fangs.

Aug 5th 11pm
Sell Price – 17s52c
Supply – 6,300
Demand – 17,700

Aug 23rd 4:50pm
Sell Price – 25s90c
Supply – 4,700
Demand – 27,300

So the not only the Supply has gone down but the demand shot up. Gap between the two widens by nearly twice so price is up.

Ectos

Aug 5th 11pm
Price – 18s49c
Supply – 51,900
Demand – 84,200

Aug 26th 4:50pm
Price – 22s76c
Supply – 49,900
Demand – 107,500

So here supply is reasonably close only down 4% but demand is up over 27%. Gap widens by 78% so prices go up.

I don’t see anything other straight up supply and demand driving the prices here.

Out of memory exceptions due to 32bit gw2

It’s 32-bit because NCSOFT is an Asian company, GW2 is coming to Asia and XP is still 30% of the OS market share there.

So, I don’t do a lot of trading, honestly, but I was doing some shopping and decided to buy my next bulk of mats for my legendary and I noticed almost ALL of the mats I currently need, crashed right before August 6th and then grew like crazy during the next week. Now that was update day, Crown pavilion I believe, but out of curiosity, what caused this to happen to soooo many mats?

During May, June, July it was pretty even, but man, August 6th, the TP jumped…

That’s the work of inflation.

No, that’s the work of players not out in the world anymore acquiring most mats but instead fight in the CP or QG.

Depress supply and prices will rise.
