I have a legendary myself (which I didn’t buy), so I know that it is just a long and boring grind to get. Not impressive, especially since they can be bought off the TP.

Happy With Your Characters?

I have all 8 professions at 80 and am happy with them so far. In the process I had to re-make my sylvari mesmer about twice before she made it out of her teens, but I like her as she is now.

My engineer started as male human, since I like some of the medium armors for them, but he got deleted at 16 as I couldn’t stand the running animation anymore. Plus the engineer backpack messes up any good looking armor, so he was re-made as asura. Being that tiny, armor and backpack don’t matter as much, as you can’t easily make out details anyhow. And asura and flamethrowers are simply a love affair.

My ranger was asura too initially, until I saw a screenshot of a great looking norn character and had to have that face as a ranger. My norn ranger is now kitted out in a mix of T3, gem shop armor and other bits and pieces and looks great. I enjoy sniping people with her in wvw.

Now the ex-asura ranger was turned into a male human guardian (my 2nd guardian), and wearing heavy armor his running animation finally fits and doesn’t bother me anymore. Plus he can be full dps, as my main guardian simply has to be as tanky as possible – I like playing tanks. Still trying to figure out the final armor for the male guardian, it will be mix and match as almost all of my characters are. That is one of the best parts of this game really – being able to pick skins and dyes you like and mix them up.

I managed to get my precursor when the prices were really low after they appeared in chests as event reward. Snagged The Colossus for 137g that way. If it hadn’t been for that, I still would have no legendary, as the “normal” prices on the TP are and have been always way out of my reach. I refuse to farm cof for money, too boring…

Currently my Nr. 9 is a little ranger parked to farm a JP chest for silver doubloons. May delete him to do a male human dps guardian, as I like the look of heavy armor on human males, and want to keep my main char as the super tanky guardian she is. Unless they introduce something like dual speccing / spec templates that is.

Well, due to the big lag I have only with World Champion Bosses and WvW I simply cannot play those parts even if I would love to. So, I cannot have any AP reward at all. Be happy with your Achievement Points

Due to the way the WWW achievements are set up, that is very likely the area with the least overall contribution to almost anyone’s point total, unless that person is doing WWW exclusively. Killing big world bosses also does not reflect in the achievements really. Lots of areas which do give points do not require a super fast connection – mine has been rather sluggish mostly too.

I know this solution isn’t ideal because you put a lot of time into designing your toon but you may have to use a hair makeover kit if the clipping bothers you.

Sorry not an option – I chose that character pretty much for its hairstyle, and the clipping is anything but minor in this specific case.

I have all classes at 80, and whatever gives a character a speed boost has to be there. 25% speed sigils are top of the list. My guardian carries a staff mainly because I get speed from it. My engineer gets speed on kit swap, though that gets annoying real fast as you have to swap every few seconds to keep it up. Warrior has the elite signet which gives fury, might and speed. Mesmer doesn’t leave home without a focus equipped. And so on.

I still feel horribly slow in WvW if my current character has no means of “catching up”. As in on top of the normal speed boost, do a jump like ranger on greatsword 3, or thief with shortbow 5.

First time into AR I did it with a pug, with two players being up leveled from the 30ies to boot. Only one of the group had seen the dungeon before and made it past the laser room. It took us two tries to beat the lasers, as in: see it once and get the idea, then do it.

Sadly after that we couldn’t proceed due to the common bug of the NPC not opening the gate to the last boss.

In the end I did the achievements with a guild group, and even though we had one or even two people rather prone to dying we still made it. Granted, especially the last boss achievements are about teamwork, which is a matter of luck with pugs.

So I do not think at all this dungeon is too hard, it offers a little bit of welcome challenge. Now this being coupled with achievements and time-limited is a bad idea, and people are justifiably annoyed about it. I would very much welcome more challenging parts in the game, just make them optional and don’t time-pressure people into doing them!

Living World Constructive Criticism

Here’s mine in short bullet points:
– Less “click F a bunch of times” busywork.

This, very much so. Frankly all of this so called “content” which asks me to go and click 10+ items for some achievements points feels like a really big insult. I want to be entertained by the game, but that sure is anything but entertaining.

I also very much agree with the lack of new skins. GW2 should build more onto its strong points, and imo one of its strongest is the character customization it allows. More and varied skins, and interesting ways to get them would go an extremely long way towards making the game much more interesting.

Plus some more work on the customization system, like being able to save dye setups, and a wardrobe system for different armor sets. Right now I utterly don’t feel like really experimenting with different builds, as the hassle to carry various armor sets around, put them on, adjust the colours, plus go respec is simply too much to feel worth it. I am talking PvE there.

To come back to living story criticism – I’d rather see some well-crafted content every 4 or 6 weeks, than just a variety of quick-and-dirty “go click F of this” activities, wether that are dragon pinatas or NPCs scattered around with a big yellow star on their location. The AR dungeon has some neat mechanics, I like the laser room and how the last boss requires some team work to make it through. More of that please, and not just temporarily!

I’d love to be able to hide a few bits and pieces of certain armors. Like the frills on the norn cultural T3 medium shoulder armor, which clip horribly with every long hair style. Or the silly puff on the back of the chest piece of the same set…one can but dream…

Copper Doubloons into Silver Doubloons

in Suggestions

Posted by: Bezayne.6459

Bezayne.6459

The problem is that silver doubloons mostly come from chests. Those chests (with few exceptions) scale their rewards to the level of who opens them. To get silver doubloons you need to be level 20-35ish, which is certainly not a level when a “normal” player would be hunting materials for a legendary already. So your only option is to create alts, level them to 20, and go hunt chests with them. At level 80 you haven’t even the option of running as many jumping puzzles as you can stomach to get at chests, it won’t do you much good.

This seriously needs to be fixed. Converting copper to silver doubloons is the most obvious way, seeing as gold doubloons can be upgraded to platinum already.

Considering that right now there are 7 Juggernaut precursors on offer on the TP, and about 1530ish silver doubloons, that would allow for 6 of those precursors to be turned into a legendary. Making the doubloons an even more limiting factor than having a precursor.

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

Bezayne.6459

My experience on the lost shore weekend:

P1 – I logged into an event so laggy that is was literally impossible to play. I held out for a while and changed overflow servers, so I finally managed to find an instance where fluid gameplay was possible rather than a 1-action-every-30 secs slideshow. Not impressed.

Then tried to do the quest chain which worked up to Noll and stopped dead in its tracks due to him bugging out.

P2 – missed most of it due to preferring RL activity over buggy event mechanics.

P3 – had a look at what went on on the new island. The event chain was at the stage where you had to escort a guy down that mountain. Only again it had bugged out, NPC was not moving anymore. So I called it quits and went to bed.

Now today I read on the forums that people who were lucky enough to be able to complete the event chain got nice rewards, up to precursors. That coupled with the event being limited to one day makes me seriously question the judgement of the developers. Do you really think it is a good idea to basically force people to chose between social RL weekend activities or your not very well implemented one-time event? GW2 prides itself on not forcing a gaming schedule on its players, like so many other big MMOs do. But this one-time event strategy does just that, additionally to excluding a big part of your player base which happens to either live in the wrong timezone or have other commitments. Overall this experience certainly does not increase my desire to play your game, rather the opposite.

I am having a really hard time right now finding a good looking set for my female norn guardian. While the Arah set looks interesting from the front, I don’t like the hunchback it gives you.

Generally heavy armour either looks horribly clunky or it is a chainmail bikini. Not really happy with the currently available options, some of the most promising looks are actually either crafted or found in lower level karma armour.

The multi-guild system & why guilds are pointless.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Bezayne.6459

Bezayne.6459

I partially agree with the OP, my point of view is as guild member, not leader here. What I do not like about the current system is that you only hear chat of the guild you are representing. If you could chose which ones to hear, possibly all, I’d be much happier and it would promote actually being active in more than one guild at a time.

It would also allow more easily to decide which guild should receive your earned influence. Currently I am in two guilds, a small and a big one. The big guild has well over half a million influence amassed, they can’t even spend it as fast as it comes in. The small guild could actually make use of what I earn, but due to activity I want to hear the big guild’s chat, so I have to represent them.

I used to be in a guild in WoW and also in a raid group which had its own chat channel, allowing me to interact with both at any time. That worked perfectly imo, and I am missing such a feature here.

Another feature I am missing is to be able to look guilds up via a “/who” feature. When trying to find out how active a guild is you are interested in, your only option is pretty much to join and see what happens. Leads to much more guild hopping in the end.

Does anybody else feel like DE's to get your daily feel more like chores?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bezayne.6459

Events are rarely what keeps me from completing the daily, it is usually the different enemy types. Dungeons don’t have too many of them, Orr is just undeads. I usually have to go out of my way to fulfill that quota. One of the easiest ways I found is doing WvW, events galore and enemy types too, even gathering is no problem there.

Skill Based MMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bezayne.6459

Bezayne.6459

Imo there is a certain amount of skill involved, though that depends on which class/spec you are playing. I am currently working on a hammer guardian, and in that spec is certainly does take some training to get the “standard” attack chain optimized. Plus being aware of all the possibilities of every skill of every weapon combo and using it at the right moment takes time too, at least for me.

I too have played “that other game” for years as a hardcore raider, and I don’t miss much in regards to complexity. I only find myself wishing at times that some classes could have a 3rd weapon equipped to swap to. That would make things perfect for me

Plus I am an altoholic and have three chars at 80 now, with an engi at 66. Lots to do and figure out. I am taking my time gearing them all up in full exotics, that way I still have lots to do and plenty of reason to do more dungeon runs. I also have to admit that in this game looks for me are at least as important as stats are. Love the customizing options this game allows for.

Let me guess, you aren’t playing with your mouse at all XD I’m not trying to be mean or all but I do really think that if you aren’t controlling your camera facing for the whole run with your mouse, I don’t think you can finish the puzzle at all. If you insist on keyboard turning, save yourself some stress and give it up.

I am actually using my mouse to turn, thanks very much. What I had to adjust was the zoom level of the camera, which got old after a while, even doing it with the mouse. When running a puzzle like this one, all fast and furious, I prefer to not change the zoom in mid-run, got enough else to do already.

How long is a reasonable time to evaluate game developement?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bezayne.6459

Bezayne.6459

What it comes down to is – are you having an enjoyable time or not? I doubt any MMO will ever be perfect, they all have their flaws.

I used to play a druid in WoW, as class which was pidgeonholed into only one feasible role (healer) until the first expansion came out after two years, and due to previous game experiences I was not very fond of being a healer. The game overall still was fascinating enough for me to stay, plus I did not restrict myself to just playing that one class. The devs there got many things right, and improved many things over time. Sadly they also got some things dead wrong (from my point of view), so I left in the end, after being a hardcore player for a long time.

In my opinion the devs of GW2 are making a good effort to fix bugs, so I can’t say I am unhappy on that front. What bothers me most probably are the bot-hordes where I think Arenanet needs to change their approach at least initially and have GMs hunt them down, until they can come up with a working automated system.

Allways 3-4 levels behind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bezayne.6459

I like the storyline quests, but they don’t feel very immersive when I have to break them up every 3 levels or so. What I do is skip my story completely for about 10 levels and then do a few in a row. I don’t want to be too far ahead because the item rewards are generally useful, but I like doing a couple in a row for immersion’s sake.

I tend to do the same. Additionally it often allows you to avoid traveling all over the place, when you get a series of personal quests in one of the main towns and can do them all in one go. On various occasions I thought they should include an option to teleport you to the next step, as sometimes the travel in between steps is rather annoying and takes away immersion in your personal story.

Spamming town chat and being forced to stay either in LA or the zone the dungeon is in does get old soon. I don’t mind waiting some for a party to form, but I would like to be free to roam around, possibly even on a different character, while doing so.

Now I am not saying a cross-server dungeon finder should come in, that concept was just horribly done in wow and a big part of why I lost interest in that game.

Especially with the anti-spam code kicking in when people advertise their group I can’t help but think there should be a more convenient UI to handle that bit.

I agree on the human male run looking weird. As if they are constantly struggling against a big gale or some such. Right now I am debating to restart my engineer as asura instead, also because the big engineer backpacks kinda destroy the good looking armours, which bothers me a lot less on an asura.

But it is really mainly the running animation which seriously makes me re-think my race choice.

Yesterday I did Sorrows End and Citadel of Flame storymode with some friends. In SE apparently I was the only one to see cutscenes, and in CoF again only one of us got to see them, they simply did not trigger for the others.

Now what we really wanted to do was Twilight Arbor, but since the patch it is impossible to enter it as a group, everyone ends up in their personal instance, if we can get in at all that is.

Please fix!!

About the token issue, I agree with previous posters saying that rewarding tokens only at the very end takes away a lot of freedom in how to make use of your gametime for many players. Why not at least stagger the token rewards, so you get very few for the first boss and increasingly more for following ones? That would still discourage speedruns and promote to actually finish a path, while not being so severe a punishment on players who can not stay for a full clearance for other reasons.
