Its a flaw in the way instances are handled. There is most likely an “owner” of any instance (including map areas – though their owner is probably “System”). When the owner leaves the instance, the instance is destroyed and the players ejected. If there was no owner, all instances would remain open indefinitely. It is a natural clean-up device that makes sure there are never too many instances open at the same time.
Say the party owned the instance instead of the opener. It would depend on how parties are implemented in the game to determine if that would work. Are un-partied players really a party of one? What if you join someone else’s party – do you then lose your instance since you are no longer in your party of one?
NOTE: I am not a developer for ANet, but I am a developer.
IMHO – un-infused rings should be removed from the 31+ rewards tables. So the minimum you will get is an infused ring.
Y not make your own party and advertise it via LFG?
You should generally get at least 1 knowledgeable person via LFG…
I “mained” a guardian (I played it the most of my 6 characters), but after the patch, I think I am going to use my alts more often (80 War, 80 Mes, 60s Engi, 40s Thief, 30s Ele).
Sad part is I got the Guardian to 99% map completion (****ing WvW keeps choosing our world as red – GIVE US BLUE OR GREEN). Oh well, off to explore as a warrior. It will definitely be easier with the War’s mobility (GS + Sword/Horn) rather than Retreat + GS 3 as my only options.
I’d say Engi is the closest to that play-style than anything else in the game thanks to Kits and Utilities.
The rest of the classes really are stuck with “just” 2 weapon sets instead of the 4 the ele has and the (potentially) 5 the engi has (usually 3-4 : 2-3 kits + regular weaponset)
I am currently levelling a char thief (almost hit 40), and I currently run S/P + D/P
SB’s AA seemed to get me into more problems than 4+2 got me out of…
D/D and P/P have their place as well, depending on the area.
I personally do not like P/D. P/D’s 3 attack is kinda counter-intuitive for a ranged main-hand (I think D/P and P/D’s combo attacks should be switched).
I am only against skipping and stacking if it’s a teaching situation. I’d want new people to learn how a dungeon was done before super efficient methods became norm, and then show them the more efficient method. That way if something goes wrong, they can fend for themselves and not act like chickens with their heads cut off.
I wish this view was shared across most dungeon teachers, but alas, the people that taught me the dungeon runs emphasized the parts to skip (i.e. “When we get to this next section, just run past everything and go to safe spot X”)

Got kicked from an AC story run (I have run it a dozen times bc it is easy 50s and usually <30 mins) when the King was at 50% health. I was not downed once, running as a DPS Hammer + GS Guardian. The reason I was kicked? My computer took too long loading the last cutscene. The kick didn’t happen while the scene was loading, it happened after I (finally) skipped the cutscene and we all were attacking the King.
The main point of running it solo is to be over when Maggs is done with inspecting the stone for a instaport to your location so definitely no cleanser.
How do all classes cross the Magmacite field solo?

You’ve ever tried explaining that to a pug who just all port back and expect someone to solo it, because they’ve seen others do it? On ele I tend to run out of Endurance before I’m fully across. It almost makes me reluctant taking my Elementalist in PuGs.
Won’t RtL, Lightning Flash and Mist Form get you 2/3 of the way across?

Blinds, Blocks, Retribution and Renewed Focus are your survival.
If you need some extra survivability, use Knights armor instead of Berserker.
Assuming you are running GS+Sword/Focus:
Make sure you are switching weaponsets when your blinds / blocks are on CD. There is no real reason to just keep swinging away with GS when you could be applying more pressure with Sword/Focus (remember each blind = 3 stacks of vuln = more DPS). Also, do not be shy with Focus 5.
Make sure you are popping VoJ when available and in combat. You could be costing yourself DPS (and thus needing the extra survivability) by not firing it after each kill.
You can also be more liberal in your Virtue activations thanks to Renewed Focus. Activating VoC gives your group Aegis and 5s of Protection if you need the survivability. You can run HtL if you want more protection without running Hammer (Though SYG or Retreat are better 99% of the time).
I am currently mapping, and I run the 20/25/0/0/25 build w/ the Shelter, Purge, Wall of Reflection and Sanctuary.
Weapons I use are GS for general fights, Sword or Scepter + Focus for building stacks, and Staff for Swiftness stacking (stand in the symbol for the duration to get the full effect).
Purge is obvious, WoR just kills so many of the ranged mobs that annoy you in Xv1 fights, and Sanctuary is a nice bounce when just running for a POI or communing. When I run Dungeons, Sanctuary gets switched to SYG or Shield – depending on the fight.
Knights Gear + Berserker’s Trinkets is the way to start as a DPS Guardian (I am currently in this setup). It is also a lot cheaper than going full Zerker on your first char (~7-8g instead of 15g+). You can start replacing the Knights gear with Zerker gear as you get it (i.e. by running CoF / CoE / Arah / Fractals or just saving up and buying it).
