To be honest, it is no where near the MM of GW1. But, with the right gear and play style, you could manage to play MM in open world content fairly efficiently. If your looking to speed clear Dungeons and FotM… your out of luck there. Although, there is probably at least 1 person that runs full MM with a specific team and clears them…. I guess it all comes down to the dedication to the style and learning to counter the weakness of being a MM, in its current state.
The best advice anyone could give is to try it out and see if it fits your style. Just don’t expect GW1 MM.
I am glad it has helped! The main thing to remember is you play the way you want, at least in open world content. I would suggest looking into a Well style build, or some other skills you might enjoy for Events and Dungeons. Unfortunately, Minions are not very good at avoiding AoE, but maybe one day…
You can continue to use Staff if your playing minions. Mind you, if you want to be more efficient in dungeons, you need to change your build. But in open world PvE (exploring, JP, Map Completion, Events, etc.) you will do fine.
I would have to try and figure the build I used before the changes, but I went with life drain skills and pet buffs. Also, I went with PTV gear so I could tank and let the pets kill. You can keep regen on you and your minions with your marks, and drop debuffs off with #4. I would recommend getting Axe as an off set. A Focus works great pairing with the Axe, and a Warhorn is good for the mobility. That will come down to your style.
Something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAW3djM00WbXN+1webiohS6A4AKgZvgPAudE-TRxFgAX6Ge3fgW5np6PAKBBA-e
That is just something to get you started and play around with your style. It was very tanky before the talent changes, so its been a while. I used to be able to kill stuff just as easy tanking it in that build as I did kiting it with conditions.
Hope that helped some!
Just wanted to say, i loved everything, even the final fight, but the only thing I did not like was the advertisement when you accept your reward. I am not into the Roleplaying, but it seems out of place to see an add mid game, at least in Guild Wars… Just saying…
Personally, I play Conditions all the time. I feel like it suits the “flavor” of the class very well. It might also be worth mentioning I have multiple 80s, some being a power build, which is another reason why I keep the Necro conditions. But anyways…
Scepter / Dagger — Staff
6 – VI, X, XIII
6 – II, VII, XII
0
2 – III
0
Armor – Rabid
Runes – Krait
Weapons – Rabid
Sigils – Scepter & Dagger: Earth / Corruption
Staff: Chilling / Blood (probably not the best choice here though)
Skills: Consume Conditions, Blood is Power, and Epidemic are mandatory IMO. I use Signet of the Locust for the speed boost only. I typically run with Plague as my elite, as it works well with the Krait runes.
With my setup, you do a lot of kiting in circles, grouping mobs and AoEing them. I find it to be fun and I use the same setup for everything I do on my Necromancer. I fair well in the Fractles up through about 20, but I have not tried any higher (not into them that much). Also, in Dungeons, I fair pretty good there too. Just keep in mine that more than 1 person putting conditions is almost a waste.
Yep, every time I try, the same spot. I checked for updates, cleaned my computer, restarted (not including the crash), reset internet…. anything I can think of.
Has anyone else experienced crashing towards the end of the first mission? Right when I get to the part where you find the fragments and give all 3 to the ghostly hero, the game will crash my computer, forcing a restart.
@Nausiation, Yeah, GS is a lot of fun IMO, and I will still use it. But I do not mind using the BiS type weapons to benefit the group. I am a flexible player, comes from many many years of MMOs. But, thanks for all the input guys. Going to make adjustments to my style as needed
Same build, just using S/A in place of GS then? I know that will bring a different play style.
Thanks, That’s exactly what I was looking for.
Hey everyone,
I typically main a Necro and wanted to expand, learning how to play other classes more efficiently. With that, what is a solid Ranger build for PvE? I will mostly do Dungeons or FotM, leaning a little more towards FotM.
I will learn the style of play and ability timing, that is not quite what I am looking for (unless something is very specific). What I am looking for is a build template to get me started, and Pet suggestions.
Right now, I am Celestial geared with GS and LB. Mostly went with Celestial gear because of the diversity in Rangers to switch between conditions and power, well what used to be at least (I haven’t played in a while).
Thanks for the help!
Thanks! Also, does anyone have any suggestions on the best places to level? Not sure what events or trains I can join to reach level 80 asap (other than crafting). I am not fond of leveling.
I finally decided to start leveling my last 3 characters (Ele, Guard, Eng). I was wondering what would be the best leveling build? I know it doesn’t matter much until I get 80, but my intentions are to play mostly PvE. Am I better off going Staff for events and AoE? Also, whats a good end-game spec for PvE?
~Thanks
I completed it last season with a condition thief, using P/D.
Really, the best strategy for me was to learn the patterns and complete P1 as quickly as possible. Then I just auto attacked here while I focused on avoiding insta-death mechanics and kiting to obtain orbs. The more orbs you hit her with, the more damage she takes.
Yeah, I have an 80 Necromancer, Mesmer, Ranger, Warrior, and Thief. I did not think about dungeon running and swapping, that’s a good idea.
Thanks, I will have to use some boosts then. Would getting in a WvW Karma train be more exp than running boosts and doing map completions?
I want to level my Guardian sometime soon. Anyone have a suggestion as to the best way to level currently, other than crafting? I have a bunch of boosters and still have 8 birthday boosters.
Thanks, I am going to give it a try. I do appreciate your input and understand where your coming from. Already changed over to match your suggestions, going to try it out tomorrow.
Hey everyone,
I was looking to either improve or be directed to a better Sword / Pistol build for PvE. I usually play a D/D Stealth build, but was looking for something more Tanky. I enjoy the Blinds and mobility of S/P, so I was looking to stick with that weapon set. Currently I am running:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAsaVlsMpzpdPx6JsPNxLBtdzvwG47H6OhAA-ThRBwAROCgSwiK/up+DK9BAOBAPeEAAA-e
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey everyone, I am looking for the new standard Berserker build. I recently got my warrior to level 80. Seeing as it is an alt character, I am not interested in having a bunch of armor sets and builds. I am mainly looking for something I can run Dungeons with, and do as much damage as possible. Currently, I am using Hammer, mainly because of the graphic on Entropy. But I know the GS and/or Axe would be best for Zerker. So, any help in a link to a standard Zerker build with sigils and weps would be greatly appreciated.
So, with the upcoming changes, is there any speculation on what will be the best gear stat combo for a condition Necromancer?
Currently I am using full Rabid with Earth / Corruption sigils and Krait / Affliction runes. Mainly a Bleed Necromancer. But, with the changes, precision won’t be needed for the “on crit” effects, correct? If so, this should change the armor to something like Dire?
I am just trying to get an idea of what to expect, as far as re-gearing. Also, I am rather excited about the wardrobe being added and being able to achieve my perfect look a little easier.
As far as builds goes, I am mainly PvE, I guess I should have stated that first. But, I heard something about DoTs being able to heal? I can’t find this information, but this would also lead me to believe the Spite (?) line could be very useful for PvE and WvW. I would assume 30 Spite and 30 Curses still? Again, this can be assumed all speculation because its not real until it goes live.
I am still leveling my warrior, but looking towards the future. I play quite a bit of WvW and have been running with banners. Sometimes it is a small group, others it is the zerg. But anyways, I was enjoying banners because of the benifits to the group and I have perma swiftness. Any suggestions on the build or maybe another build that might be better for my style? Typically I use GS + S/WH
Hey everyone, I was looking for a new build to play with my ranger. Currently I use a condition trapper build, but I am loooking to change completly. Is there a melee survival build based around the GS?
LoL I have nothing against WS =) I am just learning the ranger builds and setups. So your saying something along the lines of Trapper/Regen? What about the traits for WS? Is the regen on conditions worth it? or is it better to have the CD reduction on OH even though I will more than likely wield the SB most of the time.
Also, I was down the Nature line for the shared boons, blind/poison removal on dodge and 5% more dmg with a boon. But I can see how the stats from going down WS, not counting the traits, could benefit me much more.

@ Cufufalating
Thanks for the input! So your suggesting someone more along the lines of the build I am currently running?
So far, this has been the best setup for me, but I am always looking to maximize my build potential.
I want to focus more on having traps for condition damage and useing my pet as utility. For survivability, I was thinking Regen would be best with my Apoth armor
That is another trapper/regen style build I am currently running. Again, any input is greatly appreciated.
I recently got my ranger to 80 so it is time for me to look into builds. At first I was going to build around a BM/Condi build (one I used in sPvP) but I have enjoyed the traps in general PvE, so I want to stick with them. This build is mostly for PvE, farming events, stuff like that.
Any help on improving my ideas and any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I use traps often, I mostly stay with shortbow but I prefer sword/dagger for offset. Pets I have no real preferance, although I do use the drake a lot, but I like the snares/root from the “chill” pets and spiders.
Anyone have any other info on these items yet?
I received mine for completing 5 events in the first 15mins. So my 5th event closed just before there was 30mins left. I am not sure if you can complete 5 events in any 15min block.
After completing all but one of the Living World Achievements (stick needing Bloodtide 12/13), I still have the Focusing Crystal, Oscillating Diaphragm, Translator Beacon, and Positional Relay Beacon. Do these items have a purpose now that the achievements are completed?
I am currently leveling a ranger alt. I was wondering, what is the best build / style to use while leveling? I have levled a necro, Mes, and Thief, so I am only interested in the easiest way. I have bounced around with some different stuff, but I am currently lvl 28 so my options are limited.
With the events going on, it is a good time to do events and AoE mobs. What is the best strats for doing this?
Whenever I run far away to break aggro, the enemies do not run away from the spawn points. Instead, they just stand nearby where the aggro was broken. Thus, at a certain point (~5:30 left), I can’t safely attack plunderers at their spawn points.
Have you ever experienced this and, if so, how did you remedy it?
It happened to me a few times, the best thing to do is when you run back, run all the way to the water then back. Try to line of sight them with the other rocks, if you can. This is where the thief shines because I found if I went invis, it helped make them run to the middle.
I hope that helps!
~Edit~ Also I want to add that after a few times, you will notice 2 mobs, other than plunderers, spawning close to a plunderer spawn. Try to give them a second to run off before you try for the plunderers. Playing a Glass Cannon build you can drop them on the return, but it is very hard to recover if you drag a group of vets to the spawn point.

I just finished both my T4 trials, after many many different strats and classes. The only one I had success with was my Thief.
Full Berserker, All Exotics, D/D, Build is the picture, along with the skills
What I did was I stood next to the left portal. Usually you will get 5-7 kills at that portal from the start. Then a plunderer will spawn at the far right portal. I did not worry about him right now because chances are I would have agroed. Instead I stayed and killed any plunders that spawned between the Left and Middle while I waiting for the Right plunderer to return. When he gets close to his portal, I would start heading in range for Pull. I would pull him before he threw the bag, then kill him. After, I would kill any returning plunders and continue to wait around the Left portal. I never ventured out, not even if it ment loseing supplies. I always pulled the Right plunderer on his return, not on his way out. It was more benificial to kill the others as they spawned and the Right when it returned.
As always, I broke agro if I got any, again, even if it ment loseing supplies.
I hope that helps some of you.
Depending on the conten and build….
Typically the staff is considers the best defensive weapon we have. The skills tend to favor escape. The GS is an offensive weapon that has a focus of power. It world well with a phantasm build and has a long range, to keep you away from the front line. The scepter is more of a condition weapon. With the nerf to confusion it has dropped in popularity. So it’s not so much of a “why this over that” as it is a build style. I hope that helped a little.
So, just an idea, but I was thinking if every account got one weapon ticket at the conclusion, it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread… Or something of that nature. This would only be a bonus to everyone, it won’t break the economy or chest sales (since it would be a suprise). Not to mention, great rep with the community!
I play a shatter build myself. personally I like Sword/Sword or Sword/Tourch. But my off-set is always the staff. Even though it is more of a condition inflicting weapon, its the most defensive wep we have. This is with WvW in mind. PvE, I will run with the staff and switch it up sometimes with Scepter/Focus. I would try them all and see what fits your style. But, if you want a solid defensive wep, go with staff.
I was wondering if anyone has tested or knows what the best gear setup for a power build using DS with Axe/Focus and Dagger/Dagger?
I was thinking:
Berserker armor
P/T/V Weapons
Mix of knights and berserkers trinkets
or is it better to do berserkers weapons?
I am not sure if I missed something or something was changed, but has anyone noticed the exp and karma rewards from events has droped drastically?
Yesterday doing The Maw, I was getting about 10k exp and 300-400 karma (whatever a standard level 80 gets). But today I just got 500 exp and 10 karma.
Don’t get me wrong if 500 exp and 10 karma is how it was intended, I will be a little dissapointed because I was enjoing getting rewards worth mentioning, I understand.
Also, on the same topic, I did the event 4 times. The first time I got 2 rares, the second time, 1 rare, the third time 1 rare crafting and the fourth time all blues. (this is all from the chest, not mob loot) And again, was I just lucky or buged? I was enjoying seeing a rare from the chest. I mean it felt like it was worth doing the event. Even the crafting rare was great.
Fores = does
Daily = drastically
Lol Go go auto correct!
Hey there,
Unfortunately it will be more difficult to find exactly what you’er looking for because it fores not matter to much at the lower levels. But I will try and offer some insight…
I personally enjoyed leveling with minions. It takes some getting used to though. I would invest in death magic if you decide to try that. Being on my phone makes it difficult to find traits but you could select ones that buff your pet. Also, use a staff. your number 2 will help keep you and your pets alive.
If pets are not your thing, try out a condition build. points in curses. Get a scepter/dagger with consume condition for your heal – blood is power and epidemic for utility, the 3rd is situational. Use 2>5>BiP>4> epidemic. Your scepter attacks also put conditions.
Unfortunately I don’t have much to add to a power build other than using a dagger/dagger or dagger/something. Dagger scales with power well. In a power build I would take a well. They are on a longer cooldown but can chang the battle daily.
I hope that helps you some
Thank you for your input! What I ment, by using “Mug” for an example, is a build that relies on one ability or trait to be the foundation for everything. I just don’t want to get cought in the “Your OP!” loop lol.
But back on topic…
10/30/0/20/10 ~ What traits did you pick up and what is your playstyle like? Sword/Dagger is a “in and out” combat style correct?
Yeah, I have use Shortbow in WvW and it was… a blast =P
Having P/V/T gear, how is the Survivability vs. Damage? Granted I don’t expect to run into a 50man zerg swinging and walk out…
Hey everyone!
I am getting closer to 80 on my thief, which is exciting. But now I have to consider what gear and style I want to play. After considering the options, I decided I wanted to go more towards the Damage / Crit type builds that utilize stealth and positioning.
With that being said, I did not want a full glass cannon but still be able to put out great DPS. I will play mostly PvE and some WvW, which should be considered in the build. I also wanted to shy away from things like “Mug” (for an example) because I don’t want to rely on a gimmick or someting that could potentially break a build.
Also, I wanted D/D as my main wep set. For an offset I was thinking Shortbow for PvE and something like P/D or some combination of all the weps for WvW (or PvE when the situation comes)
I was thinking something like:
Berserkers Armor with Ruby Orbs (i believe, Power/Precision/Crit Dmg)
Berserkers Weapon ~D/D~ (Not sure on Sigs)
Defensive Jewelry (not sure the best set/combo)
Probably have to copy/paste
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQJAoIlUmaO3ei+cCZ7xOVh8E3DjSpaquCXFA
I know some skills/traits are better for PvP (keep in mind WvW). Preferably I would like to not have to respec my character every time I want to WvW, instead I would just change some traits and skills. The spec I posted is not something I am set on either, but more so just an idea of what I want to try and accomplish.
I am open to any suggestions and insight on skills, traits, WvW, PvE.
Thanks!
Currently I am leveling a Thief for PvE and some WvW. I like the D/D combo and find SB to be fun also. I am not totaly against P/D or S/D but I prefer D/D…
With all that being said, I am looking for some ideas to build around D/D ~ SB. I love stealth fighting but I do not want a glass cannon build. Something with some survivability. Damage wise, I have no preferance from conditions or burst, whichever fits the wep combo.
I have been enjoying skills like Shadow Refuge and Blinding Powder (although I replace Blinding Powder for Shadow Refuge). Often in PvE combat I will use Death Blossom > Cloak and Dagger > Backstab and although I am not sure if thats the best options, I find it interesting and a blast.
With all that being said, what is my best options when it comes to traits and skills to fit my playstyle? I am open to new skills and tactics, but I would prefer to stick with D/D as a main set.
Awesome! Thanks for the info. Sounds like the griffin could be awesome. Another question, do you have to remain still for activation time on skills? also which skills are ground target or cones?
That sounds enticing! What about the other abilities?
I have been saving my frames and trying to decide what to do with them. Are the abilities from the tonic (costume brawl) any good? I was told the princess was not that great. My plan would be to create the endless and have one mini. But that is probably not in the cards for me. So, which tonic has the best skills? I really enjoyed the skeleton from halloween.
Which Sigil would be considered better?
The 10% durration from Agony or the +10 per kill from Corruption?
I am strictly PvE and I run a 20/30/20/0/0 build, standard useing Scepter / Dagger & Staff ~ BiP, Epidemic, Utility and Elite (changes with situations).
P.S. Talking about Offhand for Dagger~
I propose a change in the way loot is assigned/awarded. Currently in any populated area, the more damage you do, the more/better loot you get. You are also required to be in a group to have a shot at anything. I would love to see this looked into and improved.
As it stands, being a condition necromancer, my only shot at any loot is to target the first mob I see and use Epidemic (while in a group). On champions I do not get much of anything and I have had agro more than once. When participating in events that take many people, you should get a chance at loot if you hit the mob 2 times (sometimes all anyone can do) or if you bring it to half solo. I do not have stats on mob HP, but if there are 20 people and player A is a condition spec and hits for 200, and player B that has a power build hits for 2000, Why should player A be penalized for hitting the target 3 times and Player B get a better chance at loot with one swing?
Unfortunately if more high end content are added, the population thins down per area. This is good for people that do not (or cant) run a power build but bad because now the event might not be able to be completed. In turn, it will make people search for where the “population” is doing events/farming.
I know I have not thought of everything and every scenario but this is from my experience.
