Exactly. I played three games and figured out the game and now place anywhere from first to third in 7+ player races. The mini game isn’t hard at all sadly no reason people can’t earn it. This isn’t World of Warcraft. Earn your stuff by trying instead of having it given.
It’s not easy for everyone. In some cases, not easy purely due to factors outside of their control like latency.
I don’t think it was meant to be easy for everyone, that’s why it’s not required for the meta event. That being said, I can certainly understand the frustration of not being able to get an achievement point. I personally am having trouble with some of the kite ones. But I will continue to try and work at it, and everyone should try and work at the things they struggle with so they can get better at it. What’s the point of playing the game if you just get everything handed to you?
Yes, the 2 week thing is a bit too frequent for me as well.
I’m confused… what are you complaining about? The fact that people are letting other’s win or that they are “name calling” because someone didn’t go along with what they are doing?
Sorry about that, I cleared it up a bit in my original post.
I agree with VinylScratch. People need to work to earn their achievement points. If they can’t get on their own then they just need to keep trying. It’s not that hard to get if you work at it for a bit.
This is making the title meaningless to those of us who actually earned it.
This is happening in every chat in every game I play. I can’t report everyone. Is this the so called “helpful” and “friendly” Gw2 Community everyone is always talking about?
To clear up confusion, the foul language in the chat box was directed at me for not letting people win the race.
EDIT: This thread is not about weather or not it is acceptable to let someone win in this mini game. It is about the fact that if a person chooses not to let someone win, they should not be condemned for it.

I’m pretty sure the buggy/laggy mechanics are preventing those who are not local to the servers from doing well in this race.
Is it fair they get a handicap and never able to obtain the one time only achievement just because you’re “competing” for a reward you already have? Preventing any one else from getting it once you have it is simply being mean. There is no reason to come first after you got it the first time.
I’m not competing for a reward, I’m competing for fun. This is a game, and I would like it to be played fairly so I can have fun. I actually like the race, but when people cheat like this it really hurts us all.
The irony is strong in this one.
If someone helping someone else in a VIDEO GAME bothers you so much….maybe you should reexamine your priorities in life.
To those of you that help the other people out…..good for you. MMOs need many more like you.
PS – no one should be yelling/cursing at you for not letting people win. That’s worse than whining about people letting people win.
Sorry that having a video game as my main hobby in life is not a good enough priority for you. Sorry that my medical condition prevents me from having a “real” life like you have. Sorry that this matters to me so much. Is that what you wanted?
Also, I’m not whining, I’m stating my opinion. Which again is: This is PvP not PvE, it’s competitive and has rules that need to be followed.
This is my main hobby in life as well. Stating your opinion is fine. Stating it over and over and over and over is whining….
You are doing that exact thing.

I am entitled to ask people to play fairly and not cheat, and you should respect that and you should respect the rules too. I should not be asked to loose to someone so they can get an achievement point. I should not be yelled at because I do not let someone win.
Quite right. Likewise you should respect those who stop at the finish line to let others go ahead, they too don’t deserve to be yelled at because they let someone else win/letting themselves lose the race.
I somehow got 2nd place after a chain of 5 or 6 light travels. If I ever get first then I’ll be making it a point to stop outside the finish line too. Actually I’ll just run the race without using number “2” so that I won’t get harassed/accused of letting other people win at the finish line. :P
I don’t yell at the people who cheat, I simply posted about how it’s wrong on the forums. They, on the other hand, decided to use foul langue at me IN GAME and I had to report them. This happened on multiple occasions, on in particular was very nasty.
blue soda if it upsets you so much then just make sure you are on every server in every possible instance of sanctum sprint and come first in all of them (which by the way is about as reasonable as anything you have said on the entire first page of comments)
I never said I always wanted to come in first, I just want the game to be played by the rules that were set in place by the Devs. You’re being just as ridiculous as you claim that I am being by the way. I am entitled to ask people to play fairly and not cheat, and you should respect that and you should respect the rules too. I should not be asked to loose to someone so they can get an achievement point. I should not be yelled at because I do not let someone win.
Since the changes in the update I have noticed it become more toxic than before. Players like the OP (assumption) really suck the community out of the events. Bad change imo.
Wow that’s really kind of mean to say. I don’t “suck the community” out of this game by being competitive, this is PVP, the game is made so that you beat other people in a race. Just because I don’t choose to cheat to help other people doesn’t make me a bad guy, and it’s the people like you who choose to harass me that caused me to post about this in the fist place.
Okay okay, you got me guys, I’m the bad person here because I wanted people to play by the rules. I’ll just take my (apparently) meaningless achievement, my ability to actually run the races and win…and I’ll walk away. I’ll just have to turn off map/say/whisper chat if I want to race again so I don’t get bombarded with negativity when I choose to do what’s right.
The general view of the Gw2 community becomes more and more disheartening every day, I give up.

@OP – why not just wait a week or so and this “cheating” as you call it will die down as most that want the achievement will already have it. Getting POed over this is just laughable…grow up.
Thanks so much for that very adult and content oriented reply. You really added to the thread!
oh the irony….
Indeed

all this talk about kind people are cheaters are being in the way of your FUN, well what if others think collecting achievements is “FUN” but not the race? Aren’t you ruining they’re FUN? This seems like an unreasonable post of someone being called out of a race by a couple of reasonable people and then came here to vent.
If not following the rules and cheating is their idea of fun then they should not have that fun.
Also, I was not called out by reasonable player, it was by a couple of angry people, one of whom decided (as I said before) to call me a very nasty name.

How is somebody pulling up short of the finish line to allow another to get 1st place and the achievement hurting anyone? It doesn’t affect the position we finish in one bit
It’s match fixing, it’s not allowed in pvp or wvw, so why is it suddenly okay here? Do we just change the rules of the game when it suits us now? It affects people who want to have a fair and challenging race to the end for fun.
Okay I think I get it now, we’re not talking about wp’s, we’re talking about the number 3 skill right?
Yeah I don’t think it’s an intentional gold sink, but it does suck. It’s happened to me a few times.
EDIT:
So after reading all of the comments below and doing my best to respond to as many as I could I’ve come to the conclusion that the community does not want to actually play this mini game, and only wants the achievement points. If that is what the majority wants, then I guess it is pointless for me to continue to argue my point.
I will close by saying that it would maybe fix this problem the awards were adjusted for 1st 2nd and 3rd place to give people more incentive to win. I suppose I will just have to accept that no ones wants any mini-game in gw2 to ever be played fairly.
Please feel free to continue to express your opinions on this issue weather you agree with me or disagree.
Like i said before, there is still lots of competing for the 1st/2nd and 3rd place, but we simply dont need our names on the scoreboard at the end. I even gave the people (who were competing against eachother) tips how to be faster at the top (or is giving tips to other people also cheating)
Why would you think that giving tips is cheating?

Curios if you run Sanctum Sprinter as a naked Charr? Because if so. I’m probably the one who called you out in game. You’re simply being mean for no reason. There is nothing competitive about this mini-game. It’s mostly luck based and connection based. You’re just trying to block others from getting a one time achievement for your amusement.
LOL, lots of people play as a naked charr, there were like 5 of us in one race yesterday. Someone suggested it and I think it became a thing :P
btw, if you were the one that called me those bad words then you were reported…so…I don’t know if it was you or not.

The only one it seems to hurt is you. Tell me what is the difference between reaching the end first and crossing the finish line and reaching the end first and waiting. There is no difference except an ego one. So is that all it is? You needing an ego boost to have your name on top?
I’ve finished first by actually winning, but I had to switch to cable over wifi to do so. The game has to many lag issues and bad skill behaviour to make it a fair race to begin with. I’ve even gone over the side a few times only to fall on air meaning I had to jump myself further down manually.
The reason I want to play fairly and work to win is because of the same reason I like to win a games like Mario Kart, because it’s fun!
Since when is it more important for people to get an achievement than to have fun and play fairly?
You seem to think those of us letting people pass are still not competing, we are. We just know we don’t need to cross the finish line to prove we one.
Well, as I stated in my recent EDIT at the top of the thread, if that is what you wish to make of the game you are entitled to it.

I’m just glad people don’t have that kind of sad mentality in regular PvP matches.
I’ve been called selfish for crossing the finish line. Made me do a double take, really.
Same happened to me, got a lot worse than being called selfish though :p Had to report several people.
That’s considered grief. You will get banned for grief reports like that.
I’ll get banned for reporting someone that cursed at me? I don’t think so,lol.
Yeah I’m not real sure what you are saying is the problem LameFox. Could you clarify please?

Maybe Anet can install some kind of hall monitor type thing to stop this outrageous behaviour of people helping people….or maybe, just maybe they have better things to be bothered about?
It’s helping sure, but it is also cheating and exploiting. It’s people getting something they didn’t work for and didn’t earn.
So what you are saying is me and some friends were exploiting/cheating when we invited others in the guild to get the cliffside kite achievement? or people joining a boss fight at the end and dealing enough damage to get the chest are cheating/exploiting because they didn’t work for it/do all the pre-quests?
I don’t know what kite achiev. you are talking about, haven’t done it yet so I can’t say one way or the other.
As far as the boss fight goes, if people come in and do enough damage to get credit for the kill then they are not cheating, they did what was required.
All that is required is hitting the boss once, especially if you are in a group. I have received credit for chest by barely hitting Fire Ele once with my GSword as I ran in with it at 5% hp. I do not think this is acceptable, but it’s in the game design.
In fact, I think it is better that people ‘fix’ these races, than it is that people get full credit on dragons for doing barely anything.
This game supports working together and helping others, and this is just another example of that.
Is it cheating if you are doing a mini-dungeon and get downed, and suddenly someone else comes and revives you and kills the end boss? You got full credit, but you really didn’t deserve it.
Yeah but that’s all PvE people helping people. I’m talking about in context of this race which is PvP and is not supposed to be based on people helping each other. Why are there attack power-ups if this is co-op?
If you let someone win, you are cheating period.
I’m pretty sure the buggy/laggy mechanics are preventing those who are not local to the servers from doing well in this race.

People can EARN their achievements when they’re not heavily dependent on something that they can’t control – ping. Lag of any kind makes the race 100% unwinnable (movement skills won’t work, send you to your death, lock you in place for several seconds, among other things).
The race’s mechanics are broken. Match fixing is the only way for some people to get the achievements, and not due to a lack of skill, but due to the fact their actions don’t actually trigger immediately, unlike people who are close to the servers, whose actions fire much faster.
A legitimate argument. However, I am still angry that I can’t get a decent match up and that I’m being hassled for not letting people win.
I know about the shortcut, and I don’t use it. I play fair. I want people to play fair too.
All I’m saying is, what’s the point of it even being pvp in there if no ones is going to compete!
People need to EARN their achievements!
Something needs to be done about all the match fixing that is going on in the new mini game race.
People are running to the end, and then waiting for people to get there so they can get 1st for their achievement.
It’s making it pointless for people who actually enjoy the game to try and compete. Plus I’m tired of getting called mean for not letting others win when I come in fist a few times in a row.
This is CHEATING!

LOL! Thanks I needed a laugh, good video. Sucks that there are always so many bugs in the new content.
This happened to me and I came in 6th. I didn’t get a chest at all that time…no reward at all.
I agree that it is expensive for what it is. Other infinite items are also expensive, but they are not game-play content so it’s no problem (they just change the way you look).
Side note: I feel bad for you GSS, I know how it feels when you prove someone wrong on these forums and they blow up,lol.
Meh, I think it’s fine the way it is. It seems like you just want to have an iron grip of control over your guild mates instead of playing with them and letting their skills, abilities and know how shine though.
Organization is great, but it takes all of the fun out of the experience for people who are not in control.

Yeah they probably should keep the fruits and veggies in the right spots…XD
It would be nice if there were linkable commands for the commanders to use. Like you could click on a location, then select attack/guard/rally/flank or whatever. I do agree that commanders need a dif. color in chat, or maybe italics or bold, would def. help me out.
(I’m not a commander myself so my opinion might not be worth as much, but just thought I would put it out there.)
Please follow the forum rules, see this link and quote.

“Do not spam. This includes bumping threads or making posts that lack content.”
I disagree with you, this should be kept out of dailies for good. I did this on the first day they introduced the new laurel system and it was not fun at all.
It requires you to team up with someone, and if I’m just jumping on to do my daily achievements then I don’t want to spam mat chat or my guild for someone to run around with and hope to get these types of kills to work (because they are bugged to some degree).
Plus I like to play solo as much as possible, it’s bad enough that they don’t offer a solo story mode for dungeons. They should keep daily achievements as something a person can do on their own.
Love how everyones saying they wouldnt notice the lack of those bonuses.
In every kitten thread.
Remember that Orichalchum everyones been farming for ages, other materials? How shy of your number would you be if there was no boost to extra node ticks.Or that time you barely saved you kitten in a dungeon, dangling on your 200hp limping away while crippled?
That Lupicus bolt that you didnt dodge well but still didnt remove the second half of your HP totally?
Dmg from monsters reduced anyone? How many of those CoF speedfarmers would wipe a few times due to that single more hit that could only have been obtained from a WvW boost?Yeah, everyone saying this idiocy…. i really wish there was a way everyone’s experience would be replicated without them.
Well I personally haven’t gotten any extra gain on ori nodes from the WvW bonus, nor do I play dungeons…so you know…I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal. What helps me are guild banners and weapon/armor stats. It’s all in how you want to play the game, don’t be mad at people for thinking WvW isn’t fun or necessary.
Is it working for anyone at all?
EDIT: Lol, my guild mates didn’t even believe me that there was an instance. There isn’t anything in the mail they sent about going to talk to Ellen…
(edited by BlueSoda.6297)
Yeah it would be nice if all the skins you got just worked like the Hall of Monuments skins do.
So i was just reading about how a-net is going to be doing more with our home instances (Adding a personal quartz node and some kind of model).
So anyway, I would just really like it if we could have our mini pets that are in our bank account running around freely in my home instance. I would really like to walk around and interact with all of them. Plus it would be really fun to have my friends come in and look at them with me.
lol guys, flight in this game can’t exist at all…
Just think about all that Jumping points everywhere, just turned obsolete by Flying!!!
He he:)
Yeah but we could still do it in new dungeons.
I liked the music you used in the video, but since English is not your first language I would lower the volume a bit more so your voice can be heard more clearly over it (or increase the volume of your voice).
I agree with you about the fact that there should be more skins available because in a game like this making your character stand out really is important. It’s all about role playing, and you can’t really do that if every other person you see is wearing the same thing. I truly hope a-net delivers with their new achievement system and gives us some new armor we can enjoy.
I liked all of the updates leading up to and including dragon bash, but I don’t like the sky pirates update (was just boring to me, and the rewards were not my taste). So yes I’m looking forward to the Bazaar, but mostly just because of the new achievement reward system and the fact that they are finally doing something with our home instances.
You have a good point Konig, I hadn’t considered how jumping pads would factor in. That could make some interesting combat, albeit frustrating for a lot of people lol (mostly me, I suck at jumping puzzles, haha).
Why would you trade with someone outside of the trading post? It doesn’t make sense because that means that they are taking a hit as far as profits go (going below market value, as I assume that’s why you were purchasing from them). Never trust an email trade, it is impossible to get a good deal and people who try that are always scamming unless you know them in the real world.
If there is any flying in the game it would probably be on a rail (ex: classic zombie shooter games). Basically just an illusion that you would have no control over, but it could still be cool for an instance or a way to travel between clouds or platforms.
