Toughness wasted stat

TBH I’ve noticed this too. I once tried (in sPvP) a build with over 4k armor and perma protection. I still saw a 7k eviscerate in my combat log. I could have shoved all those stats into vitality and gained ~10k HP and traded that 7k evi for 10-12k and been better off, not to mention more buffer for condis. Toughness is a joke.

Superior sigil of cleansing vs purity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

You will have more control over cleansing. Purity has to be considered passive because everything you do tends to be a hit, and it becomes a duplicate of the signet. I’d recommend purity for ranger, mesmer, guardian, necro, and cleansing for engi, ele, thief, and warrior. It’s all situational and varies on a build and case by case basis.

I’m not 100% sure about this, but I have a feeling that when I was trying the Lightning rod build, #5 earth – Shockwave procced it too. Can someone try this please? I’m at work now so I can’t confirm…

It shouldn’t. In PvE there are what I call “mini mobs” that can be interrupted by anything. A good example of these mobs are the new menders in Silverwastes. Lightning Rod DESTROYS those little buggers. You may have poped to air and hit your aura out of habit, that may have caused it.

Halloween Skins Raffle

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bluefox.9580

I have some specific questions.

1. Will someone be allowed to win more than 1 ticket?

2. When will the results be determined?

3. I noticed there only seems to be a limited amount of each skin, I assume this is to prevent flooding of a single item for monetary value (Shield). Is this correct?

4. What happens when the tickets are released? Will there be a mad rush to obtain the most valuable skins before everyone else, leaving those who can’t happen to be there at the perfect time in the dust? (This one I would REALLY like to know.)

5. What happens if someone wins, but for some reason (banned maybe) can’t collect?

6. Will there be any consolation prizes for the 10’s of thousands of tickets spent? (more aimed at the gem store purchasers)

7. Why did the Undead Chicken cross the road?

Zhaitan compared to Tequatl

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

Lore-wise Zhaitan is still the monster and Tequatl is still exactly what he was on release.

Practically speaking, Arah story mode was a joke of an instance that felt thrown together in 5 minutes. I played it today coincidentally to unlock the track for collections and encounter numerous issues. I fell through the deck after being pulled and actually got stuck in the metal floor (had to wp). I also got stuck several times on the turrets saying “You cannot drop a bundle while falling” which kept me on them permanently until I was downed. The concept, as much in this game, was cool but incredibly poorly executed and mired with bugs.

Tequatl received a biweekly updated almost entirely devoted to him. That means at some point an entire team was working on a single event, giving it careful attention, resulting in a now respectable 150 man raid event.

Theory on speeding up Teq.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bluefox.9580

Most groups do stack might if they are semi organized.

This. In the early days when perfection was required, this was the norm. Now it’s simply not needed and though it would indeed speed things up, the average pug simply doesn’t care. They’re there for their karma and .0000001% chance at a hoard and that’s all they care about. It’s an unavoidable fact.

There’s always the minority who give it their all, many of which will likely post in this thread saying “I do my kitten dest to stack might and contribute yada yada therefore your generalization is wrong etc.” and these people tend to do exactly what you suggest, and carry those who don’t.

Suffice to say, your suggestion holds merit but players are simply too lazy to do it since it’s not needed to win.

Azilyi's 'Zeitgeist' Staff Ele Duels [Video]

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

The build is fleeting imo. While it’s viable, it won’t hold up to the meta 00266 build or other blinding ashes builds (like signets). I recommend the 6/2/6/0/0 build for dueling with staff, especially since you’re able to function without blasting staff. I found I was able to tackle everything with the exception of a -skilled- condi spam engi.

Eventually I got bored with that though and am back to the standard. You have the skills, but from what I can tell you’re not quite to the point of setting up killzones with your CC’s yet. You make yourself an easy open field target all the time. I never saw you use a wall to your advantage (to increase the chance of them being forced to run into a CC for example). I’d also recommend kiting less in a circle and more in straight lines. Fooling them into thinking you’re easy to predict allows you to make their “prediction” backfire by letting you counter play with stationary fields. While I won’t point to any specific thing, I would encourage you to be more aggressive with your CC’s. Force them to hit them instead of using them as a trap when you’re pressuring. It’s possible to hit them both with wall and static field when they’re not moving.

I know I’m just some random Jack to you, but after 5k hours with staff ele in all areas of gameplay, you can consider my feedback constructive. Keep it up! I often wonder if the amount of skilled staff ele’s is in the single digits.

I suspect the NPC that spawns has something like 1HP and the fire effect is actually the result of some spell that actually kills the NPC, which then turns into the husk. I’ve been playing around with this for the past couple days. Unfortunately the Resistance rune set doesn’t seem to be on there, so I stuck on Melandru’s. The build is surprisingly deadly, mixing both raw damage and conditions to really spank lower vitality builds of all armor sizes, thanks to condi ignoring armor. The frequent blinds help you maintain balanced pressure, meaning they have to deal with both a flood of condi’s that aren’t too deadly on their own, but are disastrous to ignore, while at the same time dealing with hits in the same format.

The build’s biggest weakness is heavy condi spam, but it’s very high toughness makes it surprisingly excellent against zerk classes in conjunction with the blind spamming.

I probably wouldn’t take this to TPvP, but it’s fun to muck around in and surprise the crap out of people with something unexpected. I’m pretty sure I can actually see other player’s frustration at the constant blinds, too.

That works, but you need an immense amount of experience and muscle memory, plus knowledge of the enemies abilities to truly make use of your staff toolset properly.

If you’re talking about the best “experience”, as in no hair pulling and what not, you’re probably better off using an easier class to play. You might try bunker guard in this particular case.

If you’re too attached to ele, I recommend sticking to D/D until you have a firm grasp of the other classes and what you’re fighting, then you’ll be able to react appropriately no matter what weapons you’re using, and learn the habits of staff quickly.

LF offensive primary-Water (Staff) Ele build

I read the OP’s post as asking for a way to literally spend 100% of his time in water and responded in kind, grouping the same concept with trying to camp other attunements without changing, like many have tried to do with earth and Stone Flesh. This is not justifiable to me, unlike spending 95% of your time in fire and swapping through attunements occasionally for high DPS output, which is indeed an effective fire build.

Though now that I reread the post I suppose he didn’t actually say that.

Your only real choice from a viability standpoint is a conjure build. It’s the only way camping a single attunement is even remotely justifiable. Ele’s are simply built to use all 4 elements together (which is humorous considering the additions to the earth trait line).

The best DPS rotation with Staff is camping fire attunement, so….

For raw damage output, yes. However I’m sure you know there’s far more to DPS than just the pretty pretty numbers. Setting up proper killzones for the AOE fields requires all 4 attunements. You won’t catch even a full 6/6/0/0/2 zerk ele camping fire 100% of the time.

If I wanted to camp the water attunement, I would try something like this:

For PvE/Dungeons. I wouldn’t advise PvP with this kind of mentality.

You’d use hammer for DPS while using staff water skills for support when needed, the arcane skills supplementing your DPS while providing utility and blasts for self and group healing, boosted by the grand master trait and a balanced amount of healing power so nothing is really wasted. Unfortunately camping one attunement is never a good idea, but this is something that you -could- do if you really wanted and still be useful.

For when I need to carry zerks/pugs through a dungeon. It’s healing is profound, and the damage is still bearable, even respectable with might/fury. It also has great utility (sandstorm is fantastic for stacks). I’ve been thinking about going full Zealot’s recently, but part of the healing role necessitates being able to survive yourself, and we all know how easy it is to be one shot without any defensive attributes.

While it may not be the quickest way through PvE content, I would love for all parties to have a dedicated healer/supporter hybrid like this one. It really just makes the game more enjoyable and introduces some variety so people have some leeway.

Bluefox.9580

Celestial is a good baseline armor set. It enhances all the inherent abilities of ele, allowing you to specialize with trinkets and traits. I like to have a full celestial set for when I go “full bunker” in my term as I would never go full toughness/vitality set on ele. Celestial is more than enough to survive rough situations with Cantrip + trait aid.

Treat the armor set for what it is, a complementary set. The main reason Ele can actually get away with full celestial is due to the fact it can utilize every single stat efficiently, complementing everything ele does. Complementing, but not excelling.

To answer the OP’s question, the armor set is situational just like everything else, but it can indeed be “the best” in certain situations. If you have money to blow on ascended, I’d recommend it as you’ll be able to pack it around and potentially replace other armor sets with it for convenience. You’ll also gain infusion slots, and 300 extra HP is always nice.

Start casting Shock Wave (staff earth 5 immobolize) and blink to your target to ensure the projectile hits, burst with fields.

Use blink to avoid obvious tell hits (such as hammer stun) and potentially confuse the hell out of your target. (blink behind him)

The only complaint I have about this skill is how broken it can be, it’s always a gamble when using this skill.

Then there’s at least 1-2k gold in simply trashed items, such as an entire rune of divinity set I replaced with traveler when they were new, thanks to them being on very expensive pieces of armor. I’ve also built and trashed exotic armor sets (such as clerics) back in the day when I made builds to experiment with that didn’t pan out.

I don’t even want to think of the amount of money I’ve spent on food.

1.5 years of income, 95% of which has gone to ele. I think I’m going to stop thinking about these numbers now.

Bluefox.9580

I know people hate hearing this, including myself, but L2P issue. It’s true you can output substantial stationary DPS, but that’s supposed to rely on the combination of your other attunements just like above water. Frankly I think Ele is one of the most powerful underwater classes. All attunements have a quick hard hitter ( 2 skill ), with exceptional control and diversity, it’s simply another weapon to learn like everything else.

That said, I do have a couple tips. The 5 on water (Tidal Wave) is a channeled damage charge. Used against a wall, or more specifically the floor of the body of water, will do a ludicrous amount of damage. I’ve seen 10+ hits over 2k in SPvP. You also have 2 sinks to get them there, one even conveniently in water attunement.

Despite how it may feel at first, trident is a control based weapon with precision hits, much like staff. You’ll find yourself a very powerful underwater profession, especially since most people don’t give a kitten about underwater combat.

Conjured Weapons Suggestion

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

My suggestion would be to up the weapon in the ele’s hand’s charges to 30 stock, and leave the one casted at 15. Change the conjurer trait to have 10 additional stacks and 20% cool down reduction in the same.

This would eliminate the ele’s reliance on picking up another weapon, and the need for conjurer trait as a requirement. Instead the trait would be a boon to the build instead of a necessity. Additionally, 30 charges is just enough for someone who is careful and deliberate in their attacks, while 40 charges would allow for more Rambo style auto attack spamming (lightning hammer chain).

IMO this wouldn’t trend into copying engineer style kits but would allow these weapons to be used more as a primary weapon instead of more like a boulder you picked up.

Ele simply fills the role of both DPS and heals in the form of combo’s the strongest out of the 8 classes. Anet felt the Support side of Ele’s could use some attention in line with quality of life improvements and, frankly, they’re right. Might Stacking Question

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

I’d personally use them after fighting has begun. Any seconds out of combat is wasted efficiency of the outbound damage being dealt, in order to ensure you get the full bang for your boon, you’d want all receiving it to be using it’s effects for its full duration (dps speaking). Also, you’d have the benefit of other boons being given by your teammates, increasing the effectiveness of the boons you’re dishing out at the same time.

The only counter argument I can think of is if some kitten in your party blows his load immediately at the beginning of the fight, before checking to see he’s buffed, in which case you’re only helping that guy be luggage.
