I personally hope it’s pistol/pistol because, frankly, it doesn’t exist in any meaningful manner.. anywhere. Thief is the only class that can actually do this, but it’s so awful. I find Sword most probable, though. I’ll tell you what though, I’m getting sick of the idea of our crappy barely supported conjures preventing us from getting something like axe.

Staff is perfectly viable in PvP, so we have a total of three main builds.

You can toss in a signet build for 4, and yes staff is viable ( I even find it more effective than D/D for me thanks to 6k+ hours using staff now ), however it seems like those who are capable of it are in the single digits.

How do you 'stack might'?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

Scepter has 2, daggers have 3, staff has 1, focus has 2, one heal skill, and one utility. Flame Axe and Lightning hammer also have blasts but are more situational. There;s also one blast from the “Evasive Arcana” trait.

D/D is probably the easier to learn in. The large fire field on offhand lasts a while. In addition, the Persisting Flames grandmaster trait in Fire extends fire fields by 2 seconds and adds fury to the gain when blasting.

Where does survivability come from for D/F?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

D/F full DPS/might stacking build is for high end group content and niche solo attempts. Knowledge is your greatest defense, followed closely by a support guardian of some kind. Between dodging, your invuln, and experience with the little things like staying at 300 range, you can manage most of the time. It’s not really a good build for risky pugging.

I really only use it in 49 fractals and once in a while in dungeons.

Additions:

Copper

  • Poison is highly recommended to help nullify inevitable healing. -33%
  • There must be at least one person in the pit at all times to avoid a reset.
  • Reflect walls are wonderful for those few poor souls who somehow manage to incur the wrath of the adds, all of which throw crippling and bleeding projectiles.

Silver and Gold

  • When they run into each other, they will deal massive continuous damage in ~900 AoE, avoid/range it.
  • The trails they leave do damage, don’t chase them.

Iron

  • The small trolls do an immensely annoying pull, it’s very helpful for guardians with GS to scoop them together in the middle to relieve pressure on your damage dealers.
  • There’s gaps in between the massive AoE’s done by troll, watch for them. Weakness also helps greatly.

Siege Carrier Defense

  • Air strikes (torch + beacon) do a massive amount of damage to the HP sponge vets/elites/champs. ~30% I believe. Try to use them right after a spawn.
  • Build all siege, including those by the ammo. Due to immense toughness on them, they draw aggro and absorb huge amounts of damage instead of the ammo pile. Condition classes are best used on siege, as condition damage stat is taken into account.
  • Dodge roll into trees at north for ammo, mid and south are readily available.

Beekeeper

  • Bring stability. Adds have a knock back that try to push you out of the safety of the hive.

Dark Wing

  • This boss can be pulled into a nearby tendril. Someone like an ele in full zerk can hold aggro permanently, and he’ll stay 100% stationary as he can see you, but can’t charge through the invisible wall of the tendril.

From what I understand, GW2 is still DX9, and upgrading it would be a massive undertaking for several reasons. Is it possible that upgrading to windows 10 will have improvements despite GW2 running on an older version? Excluding other detriments to a system that might be improved (like making an anti virus run smoother, thus performance increase), would GW2 see any improvement from a newer, backwards compatible DX12?

It’s quite simple really.

Scholar’s is for maximum selfish* DPS output.

Strength is for meta might stacking and DPS.

Disregarding gold, use Strength if you plan on pugging/general PvE/never run with dedicated 5 for dungeons. Use Scholar for ideal groups in dungeons that you’re not the one might stacking.

*Selfish = necessary might stacking achieved by another.

Lol. The picture is of a group at a Red Rock during a defense event where a champ has spawned, when the OP is QQ’ing about chest farms. Thought the picture was going to be a map queue surrounding a chest.

And if you look a little more closely, you can see Amber was just lost and the fortresses are 1/4, while the zerg is clustered around champs after upscaling the event massively. The point was to show how damaging the zerg is to the area while chest farming, and how the rest of the map is entirely neglected. Try looking at the image again, the chat, and the status of the breach after 30 minutes.

A Review of Silverwastes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

Let me begin by saying this is probably the best PvE content since the release of the game. It caters to every ideal this game was built upon, with several improvements from learned mistakes. Anet has proven it can release quality content and learn from the past.

That said, some problems have come with the map. Everyone here remembers the infamous Amber chest farm which totally destroyed the map until it was nerfed, and rightfully so. Anet’s nerf was reasonable, and the map stabilized. Now, the chest farming has been growing gradually as people start finding ways to find farms again.

Recently the enormous trains that result from the new method of chest farming has become map breaking. Unbelievable amount of people form around a couple tags and completely destroy the map while this blob just runs around and opens chests. This has several negative effects.

  • All map progress stops. Breach’s will not occur until the train is finished.
  • This forces anyone who wants to participate in SW at all to join the train or leave. (due to the team based nature of defenses, it’s incredibly difficult for 1 or 2 people to defend a base.)
  • All intended game play stops. No skills are required to participate. A level 2 (ran out there of course) could easily join this train with very little risk.
  • Megaserver brings new people in who are forced to leave again or find a taxi if they want to actually play SW as intended.
  • When the train passes by one of the few outposts trying to be defended, it upscales it to the point of multiple champions and often leaves those few to deal with them after moving on.
  • It makes people like me come here and post.
  • It holds great risk of community toxicity which WILL develop if this continues.

Suffice to say, it needs to be addressed. My suggestions is to cut the number of chests down by 1/2, but double the loot. Reduce the shovel drop rates accordingly. This would make finding chests rarer, and give a train less to do. Make the experience entice players with “Oohh! A chest! Those are few and full of goodies.” rather than “Oh hey, another chest. Glad I have 50+ shovels and 250 keys.”.

Buff defense and bull escort events slightly. Encourage people to actually play and contribute. Feeling like you were instrumental in saving a base because the bull you escorted spawned arrow carts is very satisfying, and should be as rewarding.

Reduce the time between breaches. Again this should only be a small reduction, as proper defense actually results in breaches quite quickly already.

Polish the Labyrinth. The dogs teleporting at certain areas, and congregating in others really frustrates players. Give us a little more counter play to their unforgiving strikes. Teleport dead people out immediately so they don’t cover chests in such a fast moving environment. The lab is incredibly rewarding, but with less reactionary players it is simply too frustrating to be worth it, and with good reason.

While there are a few minor gripes I have personally, I’ve posted what I believe are the most important issues. I love this map and want to see it stay. The last thing I was is it turned into an afk farm which is less rewarding than if people just played the game.

Please leave constructive criticism and try to be respectful. Help us keep moving in the right direction.

New player - How do I make this "fun"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

I bought this game almost a month back now and I’ve barely played it. Couple hours spent on it, thats all. I was looking for an MMORPG because I’ve enjoyed them in the past. Played Runescape for years. Played SWTOR for a month and only stopped because I didn’t have much time on my hands. I enjoyed Runescape a LONG time ago, and SWTOR recently.

Did some research on MMOs, found this, saw great reviews, how its the MMO that breaks the norm of grinding, saw an awesome review by Angry Joe. In particular, he mentioned he couldn’t get into SWTOR despite the awesome concept because of the lack of interesting game play. He struck me as someone who was looking for an MMO experience that actually had a soul to it.

So I spend 35$ on this, start playing, and what do I get? Maybe a few minutes of interesting story and then hours of follow the arrow, kill stuff for WAY longer than should be necessary, level up, move on. Seriously? This is exactly what I was told this game DOESN’T have. Why do I have to spend 15 minutes dancing for cows and killing worms by spamming a key to fill up a bar?

Honestly this is the reason I hate spending money on games these days.

The only reason I’m still trying is because I feel guilty for spending money on this.

So please help me find ways to make this experience more “fun”, since the game refuses to do that for me. I discovered the random events already. Besides that so far I’m just following arrows and doing side quests that involve killing 20 of something. Does this end? When does this end? Is there any other alternative to progressing in the game and hopefully getting somewhere better? What else can I do except be the NPC’s kitten?

HONESTLY despite being a WoW clone I found SWTOR a lot more fun.

Anet GUTTED the leveling experience horrendously. It may be better for the type of people who would rather think of the game as an interactive movie, but not for the more veteran style folk. Quite frankly I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone who’s looking for the open world content and leveling experience anymore, strictly for the reason that you’re denied your full toolset for 100% of the leveling. It’s sad to say that you don’t really even get build diversity until you’re halfway to 80, and even then you’re barely dipping your feet into traits.

If you want a PvP system with good combat mechanics, keep at it. If you want a theme park style ride with an actual story, you are DEFINITELY in the wrong place. If you fit into the niche of “enjoying the view while wandering aimlessly” you can find enjoyment here. This game can cater to you if you’re looking for a good time with a guild or a couple friends, but for the solo story experience it seems like you’re looking for, you’d best move on now.

Actually the way GS tends to work for most classes (emphasis on mobility and gap closing) it does fit Ele playstyle, which is why we get a conjure. A full GS weapon set would likely be a monster considering how well it works for all other professions that have it. In fact if the conjure’s auto was replaced with something, you know, good, it’d be much more worth using.

Your complaint is valid. More recently developed areas have started showering us in loot vs the original design of a severe lack of loot. Those that haven’t been touched since release, like map exploration, are far behind the most recent maps like Dry Top, Silverwastes, and EotM in terms of sheer rewards. Things are (very slowly) being updated to be more in line, like the daily/monthly changes coming up on 12/16, but updating map exploration isn’t something tackled yet.

The rewards in the new maps are a good point that I had overlooked. Also, doing events in Orr can be pretty rewarding, too.

It’s true that, compared to the old standards, Orr was pretty good. Only hardcore dungeons can compare to Silverwastes, though. The amount of money I’ve made there in recent weeks is quite obscene*, and I don’t mean running around chest farming.

*Obscene meaning I’ve made over 1.5 thousand gold from that area alone since the chest nerf.

Wvw Ranks

in WvW

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

Honestly, I’ve never seen anyone being focused because of their WvW rank (neither on NA or EU).

If the enemy zerg focuses you you’re either
a) out of position and/or downed
b) upleveled
c) a commander

I wouldn’t mind if Anet removed it because it basically doesn’t matter but I think WvW has more important problems they should focus on.

It does happen. When I reached Gold rank, I was roaming with 2 others. We got jumped by 5 and one got downed while the other waypointed. They chased me from Ogrewatch to QL and the one who downed was actually able to self res, and he was an engi. It seemed obvious that they had singled me out because I was Gold. I’ve been singled out in medium sized groups by raid leaders, though I tend to attribute that more to my class sometimes than my tag (staff ele). While it’s rare, you do tend to notice the irregularity sometimes, and anything that can distinguish you from a group that’s equal is a disadvantage.

I honestly don’t think it’s a real problem though, but it would serve far more use as a tag displaying that YES I HAVE RAM MASTERY so people will stop asking.

x/x/x/6/6 is typically used with might stacking runes/sigils for offensive/roaming, and defensive runes/sigils for support running. It’s certainly the safest way to experiment with Ele, but you’ll likely find the first several hours quite painful while you learn the combos.

I doubt perplexity will serve you very well in the long run. Your best defense against a thief, or any profession, is to know how they work.

Fresh air is usually used by S/x for bursts. I’ve always found Fresh Air to be rather gimmicky, a sort of “hope they’re not a good player” kind of build. I really don’t recommend it.

I’ve found good stats to aim for are:

1800 power (with might stacking), 2100 without.
2400 armor
16k HP (guard stacks make this easy)
at least 50% crit rate
180% crit damage

Try using these stats for a basis, you should be able to achieve quite a bit more.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJAoYhMMKc24wzBf0AGACxoDDmIQ5ubDD-TBSEABIcCAQZ/BoU6BwDA4S1f0SJ4SKDYTPQAAEgb2mBwRP6RP6RPa38oH9oH9mlBQfCA-e

I’ve used this build and slight variants for over a year and a half now with exceptional success. It can be interchanged with staff on the fly with only one trait change (wind borne dagger -> blasting staff) and can be easily adjusted to standard 6/6 for additional condi cleanse.

[General Discussion] Rewarding: PvP > PvE ?

in PvP

Posted by: Bluefox.9580

Bluefox.9580

While your intentions may be innocent the reality is Anet care WAY more about PvE than PvP. GW1 players learnt that a few years ago.

PvE is the majority .PvP is a niche and minority market so no…you won’t get equal rewards because it’s minority complaint and keeping the majority happy and empowered just makes more sense.

It’s Guild Wars…without any actual Guild Wars. Do the math.

they are stupid, really.

gw2 sPvP became niche and minority because they abandon development on it right off the launch.

if they polished the sPvP better, PvE would be the minority, not sPvP.

Unfortunately this is simply not true. Time and time again all genres of games have shown that the vast majority prefer co-op vs counter-op when given a choice. The reason people don’t realize this is because that vast majority is silent, as 99% of the guild wars playerbase is. If we look at the raw numbers, I think you’d find between 5-15% play any kind of PvP at all, including WvW. When considering these numbers, you have to take into account the thousands of people that take weeks/months just to get their first 80, yes, the casuals.

A-net is far from stupid, they’re simply forced to respond to the far superior number. The big mistake, however, is indeed that A-net seems to be strangled into minuscule patches focused on one area at a time. A healthy game would be receiving updates to all areas, even if they’re tiny updates, on an ongoing basis addressing potent issues. sPvP goes months without even being breathed at sometimes.

@OP:

I believe a more healthy solution would be to provide incentive for sPvP players to migrate into other areas for short periods without making it painful.

Example: sPvP rewards = Plague Signet, the ascended item rewarded for all the achievements being completed in the current LS episode. It is required for the Luminescent Gloves, a living story only item. Now that the PvPer has potentially the most difficult item, he can go participate in the less committing activities to obtain the end result. The idea being this player has participated in more areas of the game, but in the end he still received something worth wile even if he didn’t want the skin.

A few months ago a hardware issue kaput my computer for a few days. I occupied myself with a bare bones work computer and threw on the first Diablo for kicks. I look at that experience, and how I died several times within the first 5 minutes of the game because it was actually difficult, then I look at how healing signet on warrior can literally out heal ANYTHING the game can throw at you in the starter zones. Then I see a post like this.

I hate this generation.
