Can anyone super-impose this on the map of Tyria from her lair? We might see some connection to the probes.

I did this but there was nothing to be seen so I didnt even save it.

It might be nothing but Ill still keep looking out for it.

This drawing has been bothering me a lot. I think it means something because all the other pictures seem to mean something. The way it is drawn it looks a lot like the thorn vine in the other drawing but I actually have no clue. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the drawing and your explaination of it.

You can also at Steam Creatures to the list! Anyways Id like to know how ArenaNet got the result that one out of every 20000 is correct. There may be some thruth but I am very sceptical about this form of hyping. Also when they say: people think “thats way too cool” it is from a developers point of view and they were also hyping the big reveal with th jubilee which was nothing more than: Hey look these random alliances have a connection to eachother after all! Clockworks and Steam Creatures

I have a heavy interest in Steam Creatures and even I cant answer any of these questions. The Steam Creatures are one big mystery. The way everything looks to me now is that all forces Scarlet sends with her invasions come from the Steam Realm. They have a connection to Scarlet. Calling it now. I also think they arent created by the Asura character in the personal story. That quest doesnt explain anything apart from that the beings are from the future. There is absolutely no explaination why they are present in Lornar´s Pass on the frozen lake. The Priory is interested in them and the Creatures attack the camps they have because they seem to be looking for something. My guess would be that it is something beneath the Frozen Lake, yet undescovered.

Perhaps that’s what these shielded machines are doing? Possibly something related to whats down in the core? A lake can be pretty deep and there’s no telling how deep that one is either. Scarlet might just be speeding up the process since the Steam critters don’t seem to be very effective.

The upcoming patch is also located in the snowy hilltops. I don’t think it’s mere coincidence that it was the place of choice for her little ringlet shown in the preview.

But… Might be a bit too much forethought.

You might be interested in this post I made a month ago where I tried to look deeper in the DO NOT TOUCH towers.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Connecting-the-dots-DO-NOT-TOUCH-towers/first

Back then I thought they had to do with ley lines. I dont think thats the case anymore now neccesarily but the idea is odd that I thought we would go to Lornar´s Pass with the living story and that we are going to. We still dont know what `the secret deep below` is although it might be that the thing Scarlet made/wants to find is also of interest to the Steam Creatures or the one who made them… Right now we can only guess what these towers are looking for, but the things reappear in the next patch in a much bigger form (the Marionette is stepping on them). In the posts there are two pics. The first didnt have all locations on them but the second one has.
Some more discussion is on Reddit.

Clockworks and Steam Creatures

Blurk.6231

The steam creatures have a KNOWN origin. They were created by the Asura player character in an alternate dimension by accident.
So nope, no alliance with them sorry.

The problem here is…. How is Scarlet able to spawn these Steam creatures in her invasions at will and fight for her willingly?

You dare compare Scarlet to Game of Thrones?

in Living World

Posted by: Blurk.6231

Blurk.6231

I admit it isnt the best comparison you can make and you can call it whatever you want, but its a really complex story they set out. Id say they brought it not as good as they thought they would but this is the first time any company has even tried this form of updates. If you are a bit more into lore you would say that everything going on is quite intriguing. Also another thing about the comparison with Game of Thrones: I am a fan of that story too and I think the plot hasnt advanced one bit the past season, so saying Game of Thrones is out of comparison is just ignorant. Everyone can have his or hers opinion, but dont blame Scarlet and her story for everything you think is wrong with this game.

i was researching lore the past few days and then i come onto this thread and after glancing through this page i just feel ill stricken.. you should all be so very proud of yourselves.. and i hope arenanet has the decency to delete nearly all of this thread

Thank you for saying that. I know this looks a bit like the whining we get used to on the forums but I made this post not with the purpose of that. I was expressing my feelings after I watched the trailer. I didnt blame ArenaNet for going the wrong way with the story. I am way to early with making an opinion here and I know that, but once in a while the lore people have to stand up for themselves. I get that lore might not be top priority in the game, but I must say that if the Living Story wasnt there I would not have been playing this game anymore and that makes it important enough for me. Developers say that whining about the game doesnt help and I know it is hard for them to read all the bullkitten (that I am part of this time) and whining, while they do their best to make the game good. I tried to make the original post not too negative and not blameful. So far I think we have been succeeding at it I think, while some express themselves diffirent or lack the words to say it in a good way. I did not only want to discuss the confusion. As you can see this post developed into another speculation thread and thats what I love about the Living World and this Lore-forum community. I have put the feelings I had aside too and started loking at the Steam Creatures in Lornar’s Pass again, because I am still intrigued by them. I am glad if the first half of the post is deleted because that would mean the developers have read it and that would mean it has served its purpose. I dont want to make people have a negative feeling about the Living World because I made this post. I hope I have expressed myself clearly enough now as I might lack the words to describe my thoughts too.

I think the Elder Dragons arent something that would rock Tyria to its very core. I mean, Zhaitan was pretty dangerous at certain moments but he didnt rock Tyria to its core and neither will Primordus. It might have a little bit to do with the arc but not the main thing. The thing I am struggling with though is that it is very easy to say an Elder Dragon is the worst that could happen so what significance does Scarlet have in this apart from waking an Elder Dragon. Because what could be worse right??? I still think it has something to do with the Chaos Magic or Steam Creatures or something from the future even (this would certainly mess with Tyria’s time and space and is therefore rocking it to its core). There are a few things we havent really discussed yet:

- the teaser photo http://i.imgur.com/MbDGJSr.jpg?1
What is behind the cross? Where is this place? Whats in that box on the left???
I think this is a location we already know! This isnt in the airship with the MArionette for sure. Its a shame I cant go and investigate where it is as I dont have much timeto go. My guess is that this is in Lornar’s Pass near a Grawl cave. If someone checked it out and it isnt, thats a shame then and I guess well have to wait. In the box I guess there’s something….. odd. Its certainly not a chest with loot for us. It might be an object that Scarlet needs desperately so she keeps it safe or it is like Pandora’s Box. I must admit it looks destroyer-like or molten alliance like and I saw somewhere a dev said it was glowing. I also saw that she/he said maybe it wasnt smart to open it at all so I am pretty sure we are going to open it. I dont know. On the paper with red ink behind the cross is a hint, too bad we cant see it! Post your ideas here if you have a clue!

What is the thing floating above the Marionette?? It is important, and in the trailer it looks like it has Chaos energy written all over it. (fast assumptions here but in the first shot it looks like it comes out of a greenish portal and I connect that with Chaos energy) It might also be blowing toxins all over the place considering it is green from the downside and it looks like a huge fan.

- The Wurm. Kinda discussed already but whatever. What possible connection could it have to anything.

- Now that we know more about the thumpers, we might be able to say more about what Scarlet is looking for.

So today the new trailer came online and I am making this thread to say: wut???

I know I am WAAAY to early in expressing my opinion, but at this moment I am afraid.

I am afraid of what this story arc will become. I think I can call myself a lore fanatic, I do my fair share of theorycrafting etc. and I have never ever ever ever seen a theory that saw this coming. I dont know if I talked it through with another frequenter of this forum or with other friends in game, but here is what I said:

“I asked the last question in the living story recap livestream which went like: “Will the Scarlet arc tie into the existing Lore? Will we have a wow I see moment?” Now this seemed like a question with an obvious answer, but I asked it anyway because I wanted to make sure the theorycrafting wasnt for nothing and that we werent going to fight a random robot Scarlet made with her skills and with the help of random alliances"

This is almost exactly like I said it. After the livesteam I was happy because I thought the effort we all put into this was for something good, well at least there still was an opportunity that one of us was right. And I repeat, I am making assumptions out of the blue and I am not blaming anyone for anything yet, but I am expressing the thought process that goes through me and maybe even a few others. BTW in the livestream the devs said it was definately going to tie into the existing lore. Maybe I havent been clear with my question that by existing lore I meant everything before the Living world started and not the lore that the flame legion and the dredge had an alliance for example because this is seen back in the trailer. I kept three options open: It was either about the Dream, Primordus or Steam Creatures.

And then came the trailer. And I must say I didn’t expect this. In this context, these words arent positive. As a Lore fanatic, I should have been able to expect this. I have explored the game and I have probably seen nearly every dialogue added since Flame and Frost, but this was completely unexpected and I see nothing that ties into the existing lore in this trailer. There are a lot of unexpected things here. We have this huge watchwork marionette (dont know if thats the english word) walkin through a mountain area. And then we have these giant wurms in Bloodtide Coast. And is this voice of significance for the story or is it just to sound more epic.

TLDR: The thought I want to express here is that I am confused with this trailer and that, although it looks like it will be an epic battle, the other lore fanatics might feel the same.

I want to know what other lore enthusiasts think of the trailer and I want to discuss it.

Edit: the wurm is in the Bloodtide Coast and not in Southsun Cove.

You are a really good writer you know. Your form of writing is really appealing and I always have a great time reading your stories, seeing you put effort in making it and coming up with the theory. We need more of fresh looks at things in the game, because very few are doing this at this moment. while I sometimes dissagree with your theories, this is a very exciting theory. I havent done any research about this but in my interpretation of the poem Scarlet is trying something with a thorn vine. “Next part will sting” I immediately thought about some sort of thorn vine. It might be she has grown it underground. and the Probes are maybe guiding the way it grows. It is hard to put a finger on her end game. Also it is really difficult to know what the big world wide event will be because it could be a lot of things. I am getting more and more excited for next patch!

I am very sceptical about Scarlets ties to Primordus. I think ArenaNet has really got a good plot the next four releases and I dont think it will end in Primordus. I admit there are ties to Primordus but there are more things that dont fit at all. If there are suddenly Destroyers showing up that would be really bad of the writers and I dont see them do something bad. I actually think Scarlet is trying to grow the thorn she saw in her dreams, that can spread over the whole world. The thorn might grow in the directions of the signals the probes send out. Also the “next part will sting” line is a bit out of context but this might explain it. I also thought right back to the part where Kasmeer was STUNG by a thorn in the Tower of Nightmares. The part where Scarlet says the world will burn is also ripped out of context. During the Queens Jubilee she said kind of the same and there she was just meaning big bombs. Burn is just a metaphore for lots of trouble or something like that I think.

Edit: I forgot to say. That part about the Dream is not just meant there as a word that rhymes. Her ties to hating the Dream are far more obvious than her ties to Primordus.

Scarlet as a champion of Primordus

in Lore

Blurk.6231

Didnt have the time to listen to the whole video yet as I am quite busy studying, but I can see you are really convinced about this and that you have put in a lot of work into forming this theory. I will probably comment again when I watch it whole but there are a few things I need to get off my chest.

- Although I havent watched the video yet, I’ll say now that I still think Scarlet is trying to exploit the dragons power. She is IMO not a leuitenant. She might be trying to get into the picture of Primordus. It seems to me too though that Primordus would probably be the most likely dragon. If she was a champion she should be able to infuse the hybrids she made with destroyer energy herself. Maybe she saw in her vision that Primordus would be the way of solving something, something that bothers her. No idea what at this point.

- Completely off topic but I am desperate for a response on this for some reason. The Lion Statue in LA is facing another way I noticed today. I dont know for how long now. It was facing towards the Mount Maelstrom area and now it is more facing towards the Grove. Please tell me I havent gone insane and tell me your thoughts on it :P I thought it was weird because you dont simply turn a statue, unless it is some special type, but then it is weird that I only notice it now.

Emissary Vorpp and Steam Portal

in Lore

Posted by: Blurk.6231

Blurk.6231

I believe the Aetherblades used both portals and airships. The Molten Alliance used portals I think. Might have been dredge carts too though. The Steam building we see in Gendarran Fields is unique to Gendarran Fields. During the invasions there were no steam creatures. Although we had escort events before the invasions started where steam creatures appeared allongside Aetherblades. This thing just popped up in Gendarran when the invasions started. I think we are missing a very big clue here. So far not a single theory to my knowledge has been able to explain the Steam Creatures in the Living World. I thought at the jubilee that Vorpp, an npc who helps you replicate the portals Scarlet uses was suspicious and posted it on reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1ktw6p/is_vorpp_inquest/

Amazingly, a developer responded with a quite teasing answer:

https://twitter.com/Peter_Fries/status/370319499154554880

To all devs reading this: I freaking love teasers in this kind of form, do this more often

I still don’t understand this answer and am always on the lookout. The fact is, the only ones who knoe Vorpp is former Inquest are we now, and Vorpp himself (presumably, if he isn’t brainwashed when he left the Inquest) and the Inquest. I DONT GET THIS! I dont understand that the Inquest would let someone leave them once he knows all secrets of them. I still think Vorpp works for the Inquest.

You can interpretate this comment in a diffirent way. Maybe it is Vorpp himself who told everyone he wasnt with the Inquest anymore and gained everyones trust. He got involved with duplicating Scarlets portals and he succeeded in doing this. NOW he is nowhere to be seen. It looks to me this portal tech would have been quite useful in the updates after the Jubilee. So the thing is that someone who claims to be good knows how Scarlet makes her portals, but doesnt do anything with it (read: he is still evil) OR this is a giant plot hole OR I misunderstood

The fact the the dev had a response on this question proves its of at least a bit significance to the World. We might see him again…

The Queen's Speech

in Lore

Posted by: Blurk.6231

Blurk.6231

As for why she attacked pavillion, I have made a comment on reddit somewhere two months ago where I try to figure this out. Dont know if it fits into the whole discussion here but here goed nothing:

I find this theory interesting. It made me think. Dragons are by far not the only ones who can sense magic. For one, I think Scarlet can sense it very good and presumably even tap into it. But I also know Queen Jenna has very strong abilities in this part of powerfulness-things. I also remember that in the same post where Anet devs said that they held information from the playerbase for pace reasons. This is because it wouldnt be a great hype if something big was discovered, so Anet could work on the topic on their own pace, so they would have less pressure. A fragment of the post:
“I realize that, for a lot of people, the LW release stories don’t feel connected. They are, but we’re not always making that clear to players. It’s something we’re always looking to improve. That stated, we have deliberately held back some story details for pacing reasons. More dots will be connected in the coming months, so I will continue to encourage folks to let us know what they think with each release. We appreciate the feedback.”
Back to Queen Jenna. It is possible that she sensed the strong change of magic in the world, and wanted to warn/point on the subject during the Jubilee to a lot of people and races all together, so we could make use of it/prepare for it to take the fight to enemies (read maybe other dragons). This plot twist obviously didn’t occur in Scarlets chaos-spreading plans, so when she discovered the queen wanted to take action, she ruined the whole Jubilee. So it might not have been Scarlets intention to really kill/capture her, but just to shut her up. Now discuss!!

I think it definately had a reason she attacked the Jubilee. In the new puzzle instance she is whining about the humans that they are always in the way. I stay with the theory I have posted above.

Another also: I found that Steam Hulks look really much like Husks, as in Blighted Husks and the Mechataurs share quite the same model with the Oakhearts, next to their obvious resemblance to the Minotaurs. Direct repost from Reddit

http://i.imgur.com/u3RbsDe.jpg

The yellow lines and the yellow area are “magic” and the red dots are the DO NOT TOUCH towers.

I know it is a bit of a stretch and maybe I just saw this because it sounded the most logical to me, but I thought I should share. Big credit to /u/FloweryFluff (reddit username) for making the map! Now as for my analysis of the map. If you think the pattern looks like complete fan-fiction it is probably useless to read on :P

We begin on the right: There is a trail there of which I thought was following the trail Kralkattorik left behind. This is, I assume, a trail of magic, so this would explain it. I think the DO NOT TOUCH towers are for guidance of magic. I know not all dots are on this map and I hope there will be more in Frostgorge sound. This will explain the path I drew. This path might be from Jormag, seeping magic into the world.

Then there is a path from Mount Maelstrom. I don’t really have an explaination for this map, but it might have soemthing to do with the Zephyr Sanctum and Glints energy they might carry. Let me know if you have a better theory!

The path from Orr is obviously from Zhaitan.

The path from the Karka map is also hard to explain but it might be from the Deep Sea Dragon, AKA Bubbles, as it seems to follow the trail to the unending ocean.
Then we have the last path, the one which comes from the Maguuma Wastes. This path has probably got to do something with the Jungle Dragon or with Thaumanova.

It is strange that no pillars are on the trail from Twilight Arbor as this is one of Scarlets facilities, but it might be there and just not on the map.

Now the reason why I drew them all to one spot on Lornar’s pass: I think Scarlet is trying to accumulate as much magic as possible to that spot. She needs it because she wants to make either a giant portal to the Steam world or a permanant portal to the Steam world (OR BOTH!). I drew this location on purpose because that location is in my opinion the location where the thinnest barrier between the two universes is. Now obviously, these aren’t the only points if high magic in the magic network she mentions, but the only needs the trail to her location of choiche.

HYPERSPECULATION MODE ACTIVATED: PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!
I think, building on the theory above, that Scarlet wants to conquer the world with steam creatures. I also think she will build them herself in the future. Yes this is a paradox, it might not become clear due to my lack of storytelling skills. I am saying she is making the future of herself come true. She is making the Steam universe real!

Let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading this piece of good ol’ fan-fiction

May I all invite you to join the discussion about this on reddit. I basically tried to connect the dots and I would like your opinions about it! That would be awesome!

I am almost certain they are Scarlet made. I have made screenshots of all dialogues in the fractal. I post the part where Scarlet appears here:

She talks about the magical network but the thing I find more interesting is that she talks about that Thaumanova is on an intersection of those channels! I almost directly thought about the Infinite Coil reactor. I am completely sure that the reactor is also built on such intersection. Then I started thinking about the Chaos Crystal Cavern. I think this spot is on an intersection as well. What is also very interesting is that all of these three locations have a lot of diffirent enemies spawning; they are teleported from somewhere… I believe this somewhere is anothere intersection. Therefore I think that if controlled, these intersections of magic can transport vast quantaties of creatures between eachother. I think the explosion or the experiments with the reactor just pushed the magic off balance and thus the teleportations. If you know more locations where there might be an intersection of magic please share it with me! Now it looks like Scarlet was planning on experimenting with this network again, but as far as I know, she hasn’t got a place for this experiment yet. I think we can relate this network to what Scarlet saw. She saw the world, and the network of magic, magic hotspots etc. She is certainly doing something really important with this.

There have been many sightings of the weird things coming out of the ground. It is really nice that they also appear in Orr. This is why I think they are build to channel magic, but NOT on the intersections, the lines between them! Maybe she realised this might be much safer and it might mean that she can teleport to any of these pillars if she wants. These pillars seem to be pumping something though………

Interesting. I’d like to point a few things that I don’t understand/miss from your theory and maybe while writing, I’ll drop a few speculations in myself, we’ll see how it goes!

- Did I missread this or have you said nothing about the Twisted Nightmare creatures? Or do you mean the watchknights by these. They look like these a lot, with the watckwork theme around them. Still I would consider them as an at least as big ally as the steam creatures, as she has TONS of them. They come from the same portals as the Aetherblades, but they never spawn together…

On a side note, I find it interesting that they changed the appearance of these portals in terms of where the creatures are coming from. The best picture I could get of both was this of the old one: http://i.imgur.com/KhBTSHb.jpg
And this of the new one: (kitten , I appear to have taken a bad screenshot, but you guys must know what I am talking about)

-I think you are much too less thinking about the portal tech/science here. Scarlet didn’t get the portal tech from the Aetherblades, as also the MA could make portals. Think about the portals in Wayfarer Foothills during F&F. These orange coloured portals. These apeared to have been made by the Flame Legion Shamans. So they casn make portals too. Scarlet herself is not known to make the portals with her own magic/energy, although many just assume she can do this. THIS tech, she could have gotten from the Aetherblades. I also noticed that Scarlet could float in mid-air during the Jubilee, so she probably is making these portals herself.

-I have never seen any of the steam creatures come from their realms portals, so the reverse engineering idea is a good one. However, during the Emissairy Vorrp field quest, we need to go to a steam device in gendarran fields, where there is also a steam portal: On this page you can see it.

This raises the question on how good she really is with portal knowledge. Just to point this out

Now about the Toxic Alliance.
- Scarlet seems to care about them more than she does with the other alliances. She didn’t care with the MA what they were doing in the meantime and she didn’t care with the Aetherblades, as long as she gets from them what she wants. This is why I think the flower is the big project of Scarlet. She is going to do more with it, we just don’t know what yet.

- The flower raises the big question. Why is it there and why does she need the Krait. I am one hundred percent sure she could have pulled this off without the help of the Krait, as they don’t seem to be into intoxicating people, but more like flooding them. This is what bothers me, what is the role of the Krait in all this, apart from them being pretty smart. I made a post on the reddit of Guild Wars 2 about that and here is an abstract of this. I’d like to hear you opinion on this Konig. I’ll post more when it comes to my mind but for now this will do.

“Ill start this right off. Once you collect all the obelisk shards for the current meta-archievement, the NPC says that the shard are quite similar to the Bloodstone Shards. Now if my knowledge isn’t failing me, the Bloodstone Shards contained a huge amount of magic. So the Obelisk Shard should also contain much magic. Scarlet needs to get large amounts of energy, in order ro be able to manipulate time and space, in order to make her vision (explained in the short story) true. I am speculating further on this speculation because I think it was a likely theory. I think /u/Psynchrony1 [+2] came up with this first so credits to him. Now as for the Obelisk. I think the Krait are the only one who can actually do something with the shards. They contain a lot of some form of magic/energy. The speculation: Scarlet provided the Obelisk Shards for the Krait, gaining their friendship, so that she can either steal the magic that they tap from the shards (Scarlet is fooling the Krait) , OR she is actively working together with the Krait to launch a direct powerful attack (maybe through the nightmare tower) that will benefit both sides. I am being very shallow here and I just wrote down what first came to my mind, resulting in an incredible loose end.”
