Most of mine are with lore except two. I purposefully made them against type. I have a Sylvari Necro and a Charr Guardian.

I loved the thought of them being “not the norm” in their own cultures.

Well Trahearne is a Firstborn and he is a Necromancer. Though I agree with you that is doesnt feel right is that is your opinion.

Personally I have a Norn Mesmer which is a little out of lore.

Way points and ley lines

Arent the waypoints powered by power crystals just like the Asura Gates? This would mean they at least radiate a bit of energy, enough to attract Mordremoth. It looks like he is snacking a bit and the main purpose of the east-ward going vines seems, to me, sapping energy from the world. It is also a way of ArenaNet to express that a treath is coming. I mean, waypoints are really obvious so no one will not see it.

You would almost say the steam brain trying to manipulate it all. This idea really excites me as I have been curious about Steam Creatures for a long time, like most people. But I think the writers would have made such a conspiracy more obvious as it takes really good storytelling to link everything back to them, so I dont think that is the case. It is still possible that Mordremoth has a direct connection to the Dream, while the Sylvari not being his minions and that as soon as he corrupts a Sylvari, he sees everything any Sylvari ever shared through the Dream, giving him a lot of knowledge. It is known Dragon Champions have more knowledge and power than when they are normal beings (duh..) because they are an instrument of their master, thus sharing the knowledge of the Master. This is a possible reason why Mordremoth’s minions (assuming Scarlet and Aerin are Mordremoth’s minions) are more intellectual. I probably explained it really bad but it comes down to it that Mordremoth has access to everything that is stored withing the Dream and therefore gaining more knowledge than any other Elder Dragon could.

Aerin seemed more curious than most Sylvari are, which is, given the curious nature of the Sylvari, kind of remarkable. This curiosity combined with him being a Soundless might have made him more suscepatable for corruption by Mordremoth. Though I still struggle with the idea that Mordremoth seems much smarter than all the other Elder Dragons. If he corrupted Aerin and he wanted something aboard the Zephirite ship, this would be a highly tactical move and not just an action to consume magic, as there are probably easier ways to do this. This is the thing that bothers me the most and why I still dont believe fully that Mordremoth is really behind it all. I mean, it could be that because the story is now much more immersive than the personal story that this is noticable but it could also be that ArenaNet is trying to fool us all.

As for Aerin having engineering powers. I think we should not pay much attention to it as a lot of NPC’s have a profession. Aerin just had some special powers to make the fight more fun I think. It is remarkable that that he stabbed a lot of people though. It might be his fanaticism (is this a word?) toward obeying Mordremoth or the one controlling him or to kill the Master of Peace.

I guess the idea was that if you dont have want to deal woth storylines, you dont have to. However, you are intersted in them, but you still want them to be at your disposal quickly. Ane of the best things in this game in my opinion is that a person who looks beyond the “kill centaurs and raid their supply” can digest a good bit of story. You are interested in it I understand, but don’t want to investigate? This is a common thought through a big part of the player base. But I encourage you to take some time to look around. Talk to living world NPC’s, speak with the NPC’s in the personal story after the obligatory dialogue screen. This way, youll find yourself much more interested in lore. I have a few buddies playing Guild Wars 2 and he is further ahead in terms of leveling characters and gold, but did he enjoy it more than I did, I think not. The speculating and discussing on this forum really helps deepen the experience for me. If you have a question just ask!

I like Jormag the most. He just has some sort of mythical status in the game. At least for me. His tooth at the middle of the Hoelbrak is just awesome. Maybe I like Jormag the most because he has the biggest connection to a playable race in the game. Jormag feels to me like he has the biggest and best “personality” for a dragon. His way of corrupting people intigues me much more than, say Zhaitan’s corruption. We havent seen anything on the Jungle Dragon and I am curious how they will establish him in the Living World. They have got a better chance to make him more appealing to the players because the new Living World arc will likely center around him a lot. Though I dont think I will like Mordremoth more than Jormag. I love the lore of GW2 but generally avoid anything Sylvary related or in that region. Dont know exactly why but it just doesnt feel right for me.

I was a little disappointed that in the Account Bound news blog, it wasnt anounced that commander titles were going to be account bound. While I can understand it is not, I can also see enough reasons on why they should be. Especially for the WvW commanders who would like to play a different character. Also the people with multiple level 80’s who command PvE events a lot have need for it. For example at the Wurm event where it is optimal to have 5 necros for example. If the commander isnt a necro himself, it cant be coordinated better. The point I am trying to make is that the commander title is a title for the player, not for the character. It is what you do with it that is important. Do you guys have a specific opinion on this or hasnt it come up yet?

Matthew Medina said this about the theory of her being an illusion:

“Haha, no my posts are not some “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” diversion. By all means, this is an interesting discussion. Although I think the evidence that Queen Jennah being real is fairly well established, I actually do enjoy reading the theories about her being nothing more than an illusion in the same way I’m fascinated by web pages which describe how we never landed on the moon, or that 9/11 was a cleverly orchestrated government plot. :-P
I too have argued that we need a “hide footwear” option on characters, but to no avail. We got the option to hide gloves/gauntlets not that long ago, and that was in response to a bug that was needed to be fixed. hint”

Blurk.6231

Well to be honest I would have felt exactly the same if it werent for everything that happened before. I was always thinking : in this release we will finally get the answer! But it just didnt come. At this point I just understand that we shouldnt take everything an NPC says as a hint. We have done this for the past year. On the

This has to do with the poor kickoff of the living story season 1. We got so less content with promises of connection and a bigger plot, that we went searching for evidence, hence why we still remember there is a random prisoner in the Flame and Frost sequence that says these things. As the releases got better and some more dialogue got added we continued this way of speculation. On the hindsight I can say that this the wrong way to speculate. We should just consider the simple facts instead of every dialogue. A lot of dialogue is added just for the spice and flavour (too much imo)

So all I can say while I agree with you Narcemus, I doubt it. It is hihgly likely Mordremoth was the entity, wheter I like it or not…

You never know with conspiracy theories if people will like it. What I am ttying to say is that it will be more noticeable if it gets a seperate topic where you could place a link to this thread if it links a lot to this theory. Scarlet would likely have gained this from the “entity”. So, who would the entity be that it would know how to escape the Elder Dragons’ wrath?

I think it’s one of two possibilities. First possibility is Lazarus, the second is the Inquest.

Lazarus for two reasons: 1) The mursaat had fled the world to let the Elder Dragons ravage it before, wiping out an entire race (almost) as they did so (the Seers), and when they returned they returned portraying themselves as the Unseen Ones – as gods. They returned intending to rule, it seems. It would not be unlikely for this to happen again. 2) The Aftermath instance in The Dead End formally introduces Belinda Delaqua, whom hints at the Season 2’s direction (IMO): west, dealing with black market dealers who base themselves in Brisban Wildlands. Sounds familiar? Fort Vandal is run by bandits, and bandits are run by the White Mantle. And who runs the White Mantle? Mursaat. Thus I suspect Season 2 will be returning to GW1 lore in the form of Lazarus, and may be tied into Season 1 via being the entity.

There is actually a really good theory an discussion about the White Mantle and their living world connection on this forum. Just pointing it out since it is definately worth reading. It would be a shame if you didnt join in!

In all seriousness though, Id like to hear the Queen Jenna conspiracy. I have never trusted het since I read Edge of Destiny. She is good at.. Mind games…. Anyways she is the perfect person for a type of enemy like “keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer” She “gets captured” by bandits in Caudecus manor. The only way I see this tie into the White Mantle theory though is when the bandits are indeed working with the White Mantle and Caudecus and Queen Jenna has a share in it too. Such a “kidnapping” would be the only opportunity to meet and discuss. Queen Jenna could beat those bandits herself if she wanted. Afterwards she takes Caudecus with her to the palace to “keep an eye” on him. This way there are a lot more conspiracies to be made though so dont get into it too much!

Logan got some attention in the LA story instance in Origins of Madness I believe and he had a pretty long dialogue. It is Zojja that hasnt appeared at all yet. Something that doesnt really bother me because she never said useful stuff. She is only whining about how stupid everyone is.

Scarlet as a Lieutenant? [spoilers]

in Lore

Posted by: Blurk.6231

Blurk.6231

Y’know, the aftermath dialogue kind of hints that Scarlet was not corrupted.

In the instance, it’s talked about Scarlet redirecting the ley lines to multiple dragons. Not just one.

So it may be that she was out to empower multiple dragons – perhaps for the same reason she let Thaumanova blow up. She wanted to watch what happened, and learn from it.

But that ignores the fact that Scarlet was led to do what she did under the influence of someone/something. It’s clear in the breachmaker that her aim was to bring forth Tyria’s new master. It’s possible that she redirected the ley lines to all the dragons, but I would say that her focus was on one.

My take on that part of the instance was that the breachmaker disturbed the ley lines and a consequence of that was that it sent magic surges to the elder dragons.

What if the entity isn’t a Dragon or Dragon champion, but someone intending to utilize the dragon’s for their own gains… Like Kudu and the Inquest are doing. Or the mursaat somewhat did.

I have been thinking about this for the past few days and to be honest I like this much more. If you speak to the Pale Tree she says something strange. I cant remember the exact dialogue so I encourage you to look yourself, but she said Scarlet lost the battle to save her own mind… I just dont find this kind of manipulating someone fitting to my idea of Mordremoth, especially since we already know a dragon like this, Jormag. This makes me think there is more behind it and with more I mean something more complicated than a dragon. Especially with the theory floating around with the White Mantle and the subtle hints that link to their returning activity the Mursaat are still an option as the big manipulator behing Scarlet. It would be so awesome if they can work them into this plot somehow. But the whole Sylvary Dream thing just makes things so complicated to link to something else than the jungle dragon, although there are possibilities, since the White Mantle and the Mursaat were present in the Pale Tree area if I remember correctly so their magic could have somehow twisted the original purpose of the Dream or could have created a weak spot for intuders. We will just have to wait and see. I am desperately looking for more theories that suggest the big bad isnt a dragon, although it is obvious that it will be involved next season, Scarlet may not have been corrupted/influenced by Mordremoth like you said.

So this and the fact that Angel said that the LS season 1 would tie intp existing lore, which kind of contradicts the Mordremoth thing as I dont see the Jungle Dragon no one on Tyria ever heard about as existing lore. Soo yeahh…

Belinda is anet’s way of including seraph interests without necessarrily using Logan – who is voice by Troy Baker, who like Felicia Day, is hard to schedule for.

I’m calling it, Belinda will probably die.

Hahahaha, i’m placing my money on that horse as well. That might be the spark that’s needed for Marjory to connect the dots with her own cases. XD

Now THIS would be nice storytelling! That would mean Marjory would have to reveal more about her past and that would start a new plot line.

Hopefully tying up some loose ends in her story “The Last Straw” while she’s at it! 8D

And since this all about the theory, I’m also putting my money on the White Mantle having a role in there somewhere. 8DDD really wants Anet to touch on them LOLOL

Could be, could be… Only time will tell us if you’re right. While the option is open, they can also skip a step and go outright to the Mursaat. Either way would please me.

Blurk.6231

Yeah it is for a Deus Ex Machina a strange way, introducing a relative of one of the main characters. They could also have used Logan. Although this presses for more urgency. If Logan himself was sent there, it would be a serious issue. Otherwise you wouldnt send the leader of the Seraph to it. With this new character, they still have room on how much attention they want to give to the issue of the bandits. Do they want to make it serious? Fine, let it get out of hand and “uncontrolable” for Big Beli (love the nickname). But if Logan was to go there, it would have been more than “just bandits disturbing the economy and doing bandit like stuff”. Belinda’s introduction allows diffirent story progressions. They can decide wheter or not it will be a highlighted topic or if Belinda will only need your help destroying the fort in Brisban to get behind Brisban (I am just giving a random example here, I know you can enter when the bridge is repaired). So I will have to give them a pass for Belinda’s introduction. Give them time to decide and let us keep this thread up so they see how intriguing this plot line will be It also adds more flavour to the character of Marjory too, some tidbits about her past.

Uhm. That is like, literally what he said in his post.

Politics and Banditry

The White Bandits

Now where is the White Mantle in all of this? Whatever happened to them anyways? In a very specific part of the human personal story, this becomes apparent.

Family Reunion: Unknown Parents

In the next chapter of the human personal story, if you had picked Unknown Parents as one of your defining characteristics. You would get to experience bandits trying to assassinate you. These bandits are what the Shining Blade reveal to be the remnants of the White Mantle who are trying to wrest power in Divinity’s Reach. They try to assassinate you because your parents were apparently spies for the throne.

We can conclude from this then that the bandits, though probably with personal motives, are within the same realm as the White Mantle. Both parties share the same desire to wrest power from the throne. This establishes a connection between the bandit gangs and the remnants of the White Mantle. With that said, would it be far off from the truth to say that White Mantle remnants, working for the same goals as the said bandits, could have ties with the Ministry? Caudecus being the central figure of suspicion here, it could be a possibility that the two are connected.

What did Scarlet offer the Nightmare Court?

Faolain kinda . . . left after Caithe told her to go away with lots of sharp weapons. And the Nightmare Court had the next people in turn all turn on each other trying to come out on top (as the Court was designed).

She left Twilight Arbor, but do we know rather she stopped leading the Court? In the explorable mission, the three are only fighting over the tree, not leadership. I always thought Faolain just moved to a secondary base and kept doing dark salad-y things from there.

This was implied by Angel McCoy. I am hitting myself I cant find the thread but it went something like:

Is it true the Nightmare Court in the Toxic Alliance are just a splinter faction?

Angel: Yes, it is not like Scarlet has a deal with Faolain or something.

This implies she is still the leader of the NC

The Elder Dragon Issue
This is something I am really concerned about. In Guild Wars 2 the main plot and the whole world is kind of centred around the threat of the Elder Dragons. These are supposedly unstoppable forces of nature that consume magic and let nothing get in their way. So: what could possibly be worse than an Elder Dragon??? NOTHING. This is concerning, given the fact that the other villains can’t or shouldn’t be taken seriously imo. The plot of Guild Wars 1 gave a very good build up to Abaddon, with interesting sub villains like Shiro. At this point this was considered a real threat because we didn’t know about the Elder Dragons. If an Undead Lich (Vizier Khilbron) shows up now I’d be like: Meh, we already killed the undead Elder Dragon so if we rally, we will beat him too. I think a lot of players have this subconscious feeling and that is why they hated Scarlet and wanted to go to an Elder Dragon. THAT is the real threat! People just didn’t take Scarlet seriously and the Mary Sue image only amplified this. The only way another villain that is not a dragon or a minion of a dragon could be interesting is when they introduce a new realm where we can go to (Underworld, Steam Universe). Just another villain in Tyria won’t do the trick anymore now the dragons are all awake.

Then there is the issue for the design of the Elder Dragon himself. How do you make him an interesting villain? Someone who just irks you and who you really want to be dead, not just an endless minion spawner. Well obviously, you let him be dangerous, like, you let him attack a major city or something.. … … … But… Wait! A servant/champion already did this! How do you make it interesting now. Frankly I have no idea and I wish I had, I really do. Players will play the content nonetheless because they get to explore new maps etc. But if the main goal is to kill a dragon then new maps aren’t enough to motivate the player. It will be interesting to see how ArenaNet will implement Mordremoth in another way than Zhaitan, never showing up and only having a few plain, not in depth minions.

So that is kind of it I think.

TL;DR: The gamer in me says: Holy kitten! A dragon, AWESOME! But the Lore and story enthusiast feels left alone. I thought the last patch was going to be our patch where we could shine. Where we could see things directly when others were still looking. The majority of the gamers and not so story centred people would get the rewards and the huge Escape from LA event and we would get the story. I feel like this moment has been taken away from me. The big reveal turned out to be not so big.

Cheer me up!

So… Where do I start.

First I want to say that this is a kind of negative post. I know there may be more posts like this and that you might be sick of it but I got to say what has been bothering me since yesterday, because believe me, it has been bothering me. I am glad people like this patch and the way this story is directed and please share this too, but I think I should give my opinion because I want to know if more people feel this way. Remember that this is just my own opinion.

Introduction
I have been following the Living story from the start and played through everything and I think I read every dialogue. I know what all the story elements are. I was enthusiastic about the living world from around Scarlet’s appearance and started to join in the theorycrafting. This is not a hate to Scarlet post. In fact I kind of liked her.

Points of criticism

1. Before this patch, we were promised answers. Answers as to why Scarlet really needed those alliances, how she found out she could awaken Mordremoth, in what way Mordremoth corrupted or influenced Scarlet, who is E, what was Caithe’s secret, what were Scarlet’s ulterior motives? By motives I don’t mean awaken Mordremoth but what was her original plan, if nothing went wrong and we didn’t crash the party. As far as I know, these questions and probably another few haven’t been answered. I can’t put to words how disappointed I am with this. I know we will get an epilogue with some dialogue, but after waiting for over one year for these answers, while they were constantly being hyped and promised, but I think I deserve them NOW, and that I will not need to wait two weeks once more. At most an epilogue should be a teaser and a “they lived happily ever after theme.”

2. I knew in advance this was supposed to be a filler arc between two dragons and that made the fact this story would lead to a dragon trivial, although I often speculated otherwise (this is not an I called it post). But it still seems to me that this story could have been implemented so much faster and the mystery didn’t live up to all the effort people put into speculation. It could have been Primordus instead of Mordremoth and everything would have fit together and this saddens me. The point of speculation is that the more hardcore speculators are able to figure out what it is with what they are given and not that they should look at it from the Dhuum angle or the Primordus angle and then start to tie everything together and try to come to a reasonable answer.

3. The alliances were just recycling content that didn’t bother me at the moment itself but looking back on it I feel like a lot of great story has been stolen from us in some way. It speaks for itself that there are no dialogues longer than four clicks. I don’t know how it is with other people of course but it doesn’t really bother me if some things the NPC’s have to say to progress the story isn’t voice acted. I can read!

Like wtf is mordremoth?
All u see is teeth
How am I supposed to know that’s mordremoth without looking it up on the forums
Nothing is explained at all

Everything was explained perfectly, who the dragon is doesnt really matter yet, the important part was that we found out that it was a dragon. Personally I believe it was bubbles, the last scene shown was underwater before showing the dragon. Who says she has to “wake” a dragon up for it to be a dragon. Bubbles was already awake yes, but maybe the ley lines that she tapped into were all he needed for an excuse to come out of hiding and attack.

Colin confirmed it was Mordremoth.

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge on all of it, but now that it’s almost over (I doubt the epilogue will give that much information) can I ask : why ?

Why did she do all of that ?
I’m not asking “why she woke up a dragon” but why did she went through all that trouble ?
What was the point of gathering all those armies ? Why build the Marionette and try it out in Lornar ?
If she knew that she was going to invade Lion’s Arch, why did she bother with the thumpers in the first place ? I doesn’t seem like the she knew it was somewhere in LA because she placed them all over the world, even way up north in Jormag’s (supposed) territory.
Sure maybe she wanted to be extremely careful (which is unlikely since we kind of foiled her plans each and every time) in case she needed an army, but why ? For all she knew back then, the ley line hotspot could have been where no one cares for (like in the Woodland cascades, I’m sure the Quetzal could have been easily taken care of).

If LA was the target from day one, it does make some sort of sense. But the amount of thumpers she laid all over Tyria don’t seem to go that way.
So what did I miss (I’m pretty sure there’s something) ?

And also : so, what was the deal with Caithe ?

There is SO much unanswered yet. I am just going to wait and see as I will lay low on the theory crafting for a while.

And what is the deal with E?

Although we might get that answer in the epilogue.

We only know that she was drilling and releasing the ley lines. Was she really hearing things, was it for Mordremoth, was it for herself? We do not know and with her dead it will always be a mystery…

It was for Mordremoth, she said Tyria will bow to a new master so she was definately under his controll. You have worded my exact opinion. I think a dev should take a look at this thread.

Story:

We havent really seen any good explaination for everything yet. I know we will get some dialogue in the epilogue but I think I have permission to say that I demand answers now. If we look at it:

Scarlet was under Mordremoths controll, fair enough, this is explained goodish imo. Not really anything to say about that. It could have been revealed a lot earlier she was under controll though.

We still dont know what was really the purpose of her Alliances, other than supporting the attack on LA. This is kind of a plothole.

Look, she is trying to find a way to awaken Mordremoth, and she discovers it can be done by disrupting ley lines at a certain moment. She needs a giant drill for this and the probes. Both of which can be made by the Molten Aliance. She has not really got a clue where the ley line intersection is. I assume this by the probes all over the place. Eventually she finds out that the intersection is in LA. This is during the Edge of the Mists. She obviously needs not to be disrupted so she nukes the place to take controll. This is the only place where she really needed the Aetherblades as a special forces team to attack the city. BUT: How could she have known she needed a huge army, when she didnt know where she needed to drill in the first place. If the intersection was at a random spot like in Harathi Hinterlands where no one cares about then she wouldnt have needed the Aetherblades at all apart from gameplay stuff.

Same goes really for Toxic Alliance.

This is written very poorly but I think I will update it soon but have no time now. Sorry

So in the end, while I am happy that we go to a new Elder Dragon, I am not satisfied as a lore fanatic (yet). I have the idea we didnt get rewarded in terms of big explainations for everything and that a lot is still left completely in the dark.

Is Mordremoth Slumbering Under Lion's Arch?

in Lore

Posted by: Blurk.6231

Blurk.6231

The giant drill dominating the western horizon of Lion’s Arch is very, very big – so big, it has led a number to question: Will Mordremoth crawl out of the hole it is drilling?(…)

Stop reading here, if a Dragon is gonna crawl out of there, is gonna be Primordus, where are people getting Mordremoth from?

From below Lion’s Arch?

I said IF.

Why, IF any, would be Primordus?
It’s the only Dragon that “hangs out” underground, it’s gotta be somewhere.

Again, big IF, now a why.

Why under LA? Honestly I think it would be cool if the story when back to Dragons, BUT I think above anything else attacking LA is the devs way to break off the shackles of PS and say “we can do anything”, so that’s why LA.

Oh believe me I do get your point. My response was meant as a joke. Many say Scarlet is drilling for Mordremoth so Scarlet is getting Mordremoth form below LA

I am not saying anything anymore about what the contents of the living story will be. I am just about ready for anything right now. All I say now is that there might be a lot of disappointed people if it doesnt turn out to be a dragon, so dont get your hopes too high.
