I like to know too what others use against thief, have been playing guardian only for 10 days. Most luck, that is to say force thief to flee, with sword+torch, mace+focus, Judge’s Intervention and Purging Flames, then maybe Bane Signet. Blocks/blind, almost constant burning and teleports cause some thieves to panic and flee.
Kodash + Augury Double teaming us!….Same old same old, If that’s the only way you can get things done then bring it on.
I don’t see it in general sense. If you are talking about single instances, then it really depends on situation.
Almost there then – 1,051 yaks slapped, only 998,949 to go.
Yes, WvW achievements are very unrealistic and even achievement point gain is ridiculous.
Yes, well sometimes you just have to zerg. There’s no way around it.
Here, have a video of a Piken zerg a couple of hours ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p84GLEsanL4&feature=youtu.be
Just too bad the zerg lost half its people in the initial assault
That video was just hilarious.
Wouldn’t it make sense for the home server to have an advantage for their own maps though? Not the whole map, just maybe garri or the top half of towers/camps…
It does make sense. I was being facetious about it that some might complain that they got the hardest home borderland if borderlands were in fact different. Now with random map rotation though it really should not be an issue. Not that I think someone would make maps that would blatantly favor one invading server.
Not what I said at all. Maybe you should reread my first post in this thread before jumping to conclusions.
I did read it and replied with quote. Explain, don’t just insist that I don’t understand you when I freely admit that I do not understand your arguments.
Weaker two servers should team up against dominating one in the extend they can. If they gain enough momentum they will automatically dismantle their “treaty” and attack each other. It is hard to even gain unity among server – red name is a red name and it is an enemy.
I have all classes at level 80 and have had them so for around 6 months. I have sandboxed various builds on each of them. From my perspective, if they are coming into WvW with an upscaled class, they are inexperienced comparatively with what I am at the same class. Also, your talking about zerg vs zerg. Zergs are for bads so I won’t bother going there and let them hold each others hands. I can and have 1v6 players in a fight, but when you have an ally you need more balance and I find I often have to compensate for them in attempts to get them out of trouble, which gets me in trouble. Its just so much easier to solo fights and its a lot easier to break combat when you don’t have to comm someone to gtfo.
So, if you had the power, you would kick everyone not as experienced as you from WvW even if they have full decked out level 80. That is essentially what you are saying. If someone does not measure up to your standard, they shouldn’t be there. Or you are still equating up-level with dumb player.
Rest is just rant how good you are and how others just hinder you, but nothing to do with up-level.
Then why would they be roaming if they’re using a group support build? Please engage brain before posting, thanks.
I don’t know that they are roaming or that they are in group support build, just gave you one possible solution. I just don’t really buy your assertion that Piken Square players are “bad roamers”, or “bad players” if you really understand that not all characters are built for roaming.
Was your original post intended to make you feel better about yourself? It really now seems like it. Now I “engaged my brain” to discern motivation behind your little ego boosting.
There is a reason why I am a solo havoc player. What I have found is that I can go days and possibly weeks without dieing in wvw. Enter a situation where I am working with an ally and guaranteed they get me killed within an hour. I can understand the frustration of players who are playing with an inexperienced player. But those players do need to adapt either by joining an organized guild and using voice comms and working with their guild and not other players or what I did by only playing solo havoc. You cannot rely on pick up groups. It just doesn’t work.
I don’t quite understand what you are saying. Going in zerg vs. zerg even fully geared up level 80 in full bunker build will die occasionally (e.g. arrow carts can kill). Sure, if your main goal is to avoid death at all cost, then it can be done. That just means that you have to make sure you can escape at all times. That really doesn’t help group play much when everyone is just looking out for themselves and flee at first sight of possible death.
You do realize that up-leveled does not mean inexperienced? No matter of gear or level will compensate dumb player or hinder intelligent one. Latter knows what the limitations of his up-level character are and plays accordingly.
Like you asserted that pick-up groups doesn’t work, I will assert that they do. Nevertheless that is neither here nor there, since it is not the topic of this thread.
Playing now with level 54 character, started with level 2. I have done personal story, skills challenges and few hearts. I did level one character totally in WvW. Haven’t seen anyone complain about playing up-leveled character, so lucky to be in server that is not so elitist. Up-level character serves as great decoy, can easy pull ten people after you from zerg.
Yes please, new maps with different architecture that are already in game. Every borderland should be different too, even though it would create some complains (e.g. “easy-mode play when you have best spawn”). Running through same borderland is boring. Just today was in some borderland and tried to waypoint back to our spawn, but it was contested.
Never seen so many bad roamers from a server as i have from Piken, very funny all the people in the “big name guilds” and how bad they are split from the group, keep coming.
You know, there are these people that play support in group battles. They are not really built for roaming. So like you said they are bad when split from group (e.g. staff guardian/elementalist), but powerful for group to have.

PS used sup rams/trebs/catas to take over T0 towers/keeps etc,
I used golem to take out paper door and then left golem just standing there. Why? Because even I do only one jumping puzzle a day, I have plenty of siege. Only thing that I buy is arrow carts. Besides, if it is worth doing, it is worth overdoing.
i wonder who is the guy from GH that just spams emotes…
kinda boring, especially when he keeps losing 1v1.
Why not use emotes? I am the one and only [Hex], remember to /wave for me or even do happy /dance. Don’t be a sourpuss.
Targeting really do need work. Some kind of priority system would be nice. Wish they would make disable right click option too. When finally manage to get proper target, drop it really fast when pan camera.
You can disable right click in options.
Coo.. I must learn to read options. Thank you.
Targeting really do need work. Some kind of priority system would be nice. Wish they would make disable right click option too. When finally manage to get proper target, drop it really fast when pan camera.
Anything PS does is ok. Only other Servers suck for doing it.
What is your solution then? I am running around with level 13 guardian in “support build”, as if level 13 really has that much builds. How much more advantage I can give? Frankly I would rather be in match-up with higher servers so I would have something to do close to our spawn, but I can’t have that. So, I guess we are all stuck at this match-up now.
Get to EB and you’ll see for yourself what those ppl at South SM are doing, they come at our keep with 1 or 2, I attack them, all they can do is run away when I chase..
None of FSP on EB is doing this
Seems like they are trolling you and it is working.
@Terrorsquad – Cut it out, your server people does that too. The match-up is a bit stagnant, so I am leveling guardian in WvW. There seems to be no problem of even your server people ganking solo up-leveled character, so what is it that you hope to accomplish by posting these screenshots and singling out people?
There has been a bit higher population on PS maybe now, because I haven’t managed to get into EB yet. I just play 30-60 minutes at a time, but only once managed to get into EB. Lets see how it is during week.
this thread is boring ^^ so let them spam, at least some life in this thread
Here is spam:
Skill lag in WvW while AR takes stonemist from PS and JS trying to get in too. It is rather pointless video, but pass for spam.
Rather put them in few tiers:
T1:
Guardian
EleT2:
Mesmer
Necro
Ranger
WarriorT3:
Thief
EngiLooking at scale of 15+ vs 15+
This, except engineer in my opinion goes into T2. Played engineer most, so it can be really useful in group fights (blast finishers, superior CC, aoe that doesn’t require target). Thief can be really useful in group combat too, but most are traited for 1v1. Then again any profession can be traited for 1v1, thief would belong to T2 in that sense since it can be used such way. So, no T3 in my opinions (T1: Guard/Ele, T2: Rest).
Should be reallocable, like traits. I would even go farther so that cost of reallocation should be moderate (like 3s50c for traits), but NPC for reallocation could be in LA so that you have to leave WvW to reallocate rank points.
Because I find it to be most challenging to play in WvW, hence most interesting.
In my opinion easiest to do monthly in WvW.
-Monthly WvW Player Kills (only 50 kills) – shouldn’t be too hard, run with zerg and aoe every red name
-Monthly Even Participation (only 100 events) – jump on karma train and it is done fast
-Monthly Veterans Defeated (only 100 veterans) – how many veterans in a single camp?
-Montly Completionist (4 Dailies) – dailies easy to get in WvW alone too
Sounds like a fun idea. Might even help people like me to move into smaller server when first find out how community in smaller server is. Too big gamble to take now, especially when I like my server at the moment.
No disappointment for me, pretty much what I expected to get. If there was something really valuable (might be, I don’t know) then problem would be that some lucky get those plenty and some not at all.
AND let WvW’ers get legendaries and map completion (a WvW one) purely in WvW. Some of us are mostly pure WvW and don’t like doing much grinding in PvE for stuff, so its almost equally unfair to tell people who want to only WvW “You must grind hundreds of T6 mats, lots of dungeons, and get 94% of the map”, if you’re argument is “PvE’ers have to do 6% of the stuff they don’t like, but can then do all the other stuff they do like”.
Whenever this argument comes up, with a PvE’er saying stuff like “we don’t like how we cant get that last 6% by walking into the map”, and WvW’ers say “we don’t like how we have to get that last 94%, doing all those hearts, PoIs, SP’s, etc”, they almost always call us selfish…which is just silly. We’re not saying you’re wrong, we’re saying you’re right. You don’t want to do the 6%, we don’t want to do the 94%, so, they should fix that.
Just to clarify, since you quoted me, I’m full WvW player. I just feel that map completion achievement is really PvE thing, since it does require a lot of PvE to complete. I feel rather foolish when attack some PvEer that has no desire to do any PvP, but just need few locations for map completion. If I realize that it is a PvE ‘tourist’, then I back off and let them get their locations at peace. I rather fight (and maybe lose) with player that is prepared to fight in WvW. Call me old softie.
Server rotation might help PvEer to get that map completion, but it is still rather silly to have people that do not want to really do WvW wandering in maps and taking spots in WvW. PvEer that has done 94% of map completion will try to do rest of it too and if it takes a lot of waiting in spawn, they will do it and we wait in ques. Mostly it is just that if we are not getting some sparkly things, then others must suffer until we do and best if all suffer (PvEers and WvWer alike).
Lets pin it down to lag then. It was just weird when nothing else was out of the ordinary and he didn’t refresh in different location after death. I don’t use finish that often so not that familiar with that. Most of the time I just keep attacking since all professions have ways to evade/interrupt finish, one time anyway. I was just curious if that is real bug.
did you try attacking them with a ranged weapon and seeing where the projectile went? it sounds like a lag based issue to me
I didn’t attack during those three finish moves, because it was so weird that when first didn’t connect and I wasn’t interrupted I just wanted to see if second/third would do anything. I think I had dagger-dagger then, or alternate axe-focus. Didn’t notice anything strange about my Flesh Golem or Blood Fiend though.
I thought it might be lag, but if downed player is actually somewhere else then wouldn’t it make also impossible to start finish move?
Tarnished Coast is in T2, so should have a plenty of WvW action going on all the time.
Server info: http://mos.millenium.org/na
In WvW elementalist was downed and I waited him to spend Vapor Form while attacked him. Moved to him after Vapor Form and then tried finish move. I tried three times finish move, every time activation bar went all the way, didn’t get interrupted and finish animation played all the way through. Nothing happened though, he was draining his health normally but just didn’t die on finish move.
Is this known bug? Anyone else experience similar thing?
Exclude WvW maps from map completion and make WvW map locations give WXP. Win-win. No annoyed PvErs that need few locations for map completion and WvWrs are not stuck with people that do not even wan’t to play WvW.
I like the system, it seems to have reduced “spawn camping”. If you get tired of beating same player over and over and not getting enough reward for it, you could move on to some other player. Maybe?
Loved necromancer in GW1, especially saccer/contagion bomber in Jade Quarry (maybe that is why I had so many deaths). Took me this long to make one in GW2, that is for keeps. Made exclusively for WvW, since that is only thing that I do in game now. Even though there are not that many necromancer in WvW, but I think there is many viable options for necromancer in WvW.
I have created life… of a sort.
uh i was open minded to know that it could change thats all. i dont recall a manifesto also meaning a binding contract.
Gist = the main point or part : essence <the gist of an argument>
Like I said in my first post and even my previous post, gist (main point) of that manifesto was that there would be no vertical progression. I am happy that you are so intelligent or should I say clairvoyant that you knew that it didn’t mean that, but overwhelming majority of reviewers and customers did not share your vision. Then when it was seen that nobody understood the gist of said manifesto, would have been bare minimum to reveal that in fact they have misunderstood that.
they never said they would never add it either so that argument can go both ways. wow theres vertical progression omg worlds going to end because someone has better gear then i do. i really dont care about having the best gear if im HAVING FUN.
Read my first post, I addressed this already. You can make any number of ad hoc explanations and excuses, but where were you when everyone was assuming the gist of the manifesto?
hey it isnt arenanet’s fault you people speculate the game is turning into a gear grind. if you actually tried the new dungeons, they incorporate fun gameplay with great design. the game is about having fun. might wanna try that
You are still not understanding the basic premise or you are making strawman arguments on purpose. Does not matter if new dungeon is heaven on earth, in fact they did promise that there would not be vertical progression, but now there is. If it is constant thing or one time thing doesn’t matter, it is there now and it is not what was promised.
no they didnt lie they introduced a new mechanic to satisfy more people. majority of people like it. sorry you dont.
It does not matter if majority or even if all would like it, basic premise is that they did go back on their statements. Got sales promising something else what the product then turned out to be. That is the core of this thread, not if you like this change.
To the people who are saying “I didn’t buy this game to grind dungeons I just wanted to stroll about in the world and do my thing and enjoy dynamic events la la la”…
Are you actually doing that? Are you actually going back to zones and re-experiencing the events and the world? Or is this just an ideal that you wish you could do, but never actually could get yourself to do?
…
Yes I did and I enjoyed it. If you didn’t do it, then do not arrogantly assume that nobody else did either.
Just commenting on point one (1). There is no doubt what the spirit of manifesto is – no gear progression. Sure, you can poke holes with semantics and make any sort of ad hoc explanations on it, but general gist of that manifesto was well understood all over. I certainly didn’t see any corrections made when reviewers and customers alike wrote that GW2 will not have gear grinding. At minimum, announcements that in fact overwhelming majority of people have misunderstood the manifesto would have been warranted if it had been known that there would be another tier of gear that would make current maximum gear “obsolete”.
Just to add that vertical progression lock player into one character. Fun of playing different professions and races are out of the question when forced to pick up main and only advance main if spending only limited time playing the game.
Otherwise stat difference seems to be really hard concept to grasp in PvP environment for some people. Like previously mentioned, when winning or losing, I rather have it because of my skill, not arbitrary time spend on grinding stats. Wouldn’t good players prevail anyway, when they have more time to practice. Why would they still need added advantage of improved stats.
Please provide a link to a statement where it is said that exotic items are the “plateau” of gear that they talked about prior to release.
Judging by the statement in the OP, ascended (and eventually legendary) items are said “plateau”.
Still, would be best for Anet to spell out their intentions.
Please provide a link to a statement where it is said that there would be another tier of item three months after release. Both can play this game of semantics, but hiding under it does absolutely nothing to argument when general impression was that in fact there would not be gear grind. Sure fooled a lot of people thinking that plateau was set at launch and it was known, hence people did make exotics under the impression that it would be the power plateau and transmuted those exotics.
As for Chris Whiteside announcement goes, why should anyone trust that now when they actually changed their own manifesto. Trust is pretty much gone.

lmfo. All this thread does is show that people dont’, can’t read.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/leah-rivera-on-the-new-fractals-of-the-mist-dungeon/
We don’t need to use the new gear to run the dungeon. If we run it over and over and over, it will get harder. After some point, it gets so hard that you need the new gear to offset how hard it gets. By that time, people would have gotton the drops they needed. When a group runs it, it will never run harder than that highest difficulty level of a player has successfullly attained.
This only affects people who grind. Everyone else can do all the same content many many times at increasing difficulty. I don’t see the problem.
I can read fine, but you can’t. You do know they said they’re bringing ascended to WvW right? That’s my and many other’s reasons for quitting now.
The stats are virtually the same as any other exotic. There is no measureable difference to be seen in game, maybe a few percent. So someones crit will hit for 1030 instead of 1000 for a player with exotics. Whoopee! lol.
10 people critting for 300 more damage, 100 people critting for 3000 more damage. Whoopee indeed right?
No, no whoopee at all. 300 more damage from 10 players is still nothing to worry about. My health pool is around 18K in WvW. 300 points of damage equates to .016 of my total health. That means barely 2% of my health pool for those 10 people. The numbers are the same for 100 people, but then again, if you have 100 people shooting at you, the fact they are wearing ascended gear wont be the cause of your death. People need to chillax.
You know that those numbers are pulled out of kitten (1000/1030), so you can’t really make exact calculations out of those to prove any point. If you wan’t to prove a point, then do actual calculations based on real numbers and present them.
Nice job you have there. 8% more money wouldnt change a single facet of my everyday life.
An 8% increase in stats isnt going to make a significant difference in GW2 either.
Why does most of the WvW people have used consumables? It is way less than 8% difference in stats, so by your logic there should not be any reason to waste money on consumables since it doesn’t make any significant difference. For that matter, why even use exotics since compared to rares it doesn’t make that much difference. Why use rares, when masterwork gear doesn’t make any difference to rares. See where this is heading? Now you can say that I make fallacious argument, sure I do to prove a point. If there is possible edge to be gained, it is worth to be taken, your arbitrary limit doesn’t make it any less true.
Its not tiered gear…its just adding 1 more kittening rarity of gear to the game…each you didn’t complain about rare’s to exotics…or masterwork to rares…55 pages of the same whiny kittens…meanwhile Orr and other zones are now BUZZING with people getting back into the game farming karma and gold in prepartion for this game…food potions etc etc to tackle this dungeon… good friggin job ANET!
I very much doubt there was even one person that though that when (if) they got their level 80 masterwork didn’t know that it wasn’t the best there was. Exotics were there from the start, so hence people knew it was there and knew it was to be the end game gear not needing to be replaced by another gear.
Increase in stats is not trivial by all means (+7%) and maybe I was naive to think that after I got my exotic set on one character, could start focusing getting exotics set (with badges) on another. So, I guess it is “moving on”.
I had around 2000 kills to get invaders coat (396 badges). None of the badges were from jumping puzzles.
I have gotten lots of bags by knocking people off the cliffs (Illusionary Wave) and same goes when fighting and player misjudge the height they can fall with current health or even jump off deliberately. Haven’t checked kill counter, but as long as you have possibility for bags, then would suspect kill counter increase too. Do no see any problem with this, actually it saves time for both and saves repair costs, so it is a win-win situation.
