I consider moving to Fissure of Woe from Ruins of Surmia. How is the WvW community in Fissure of Woe? What I am looking is at least some sense of maturity, not community that has lots of people that spout vitriol if everyone else does not perform to their whims or paranoid people that see “spies” everywhere.

lol not sure what kind of berserker gear you’re wearing, but thats flatout wrong. my berserker does a constant 2k damage to arrow carts, and shatters for around 2k as well, it takes 1-2 min tops to kill an arrow cart or a ballista, this is with the illusion only getting 1 spin off then shattering immediately.

Could you make video of you destroying arrow cart or ballista in 1-2 minutes (tops)?

While discussion about mesmer abilities is rather interesting one, other abilities than Phantasmal Berserker has very little to do with this topic.

One thing that really annoys me in RoS (this is probably true in other servers too), adding to point C. When something doesn’t go according to “plan”, some people seem appropriate to start accosting others if they didn’t perform exactly to their whims. Calling people stupid, dumb or idiots is detrimental to newcomers, why would they even bother to enter WvW again when get public bashing when do not perform perfectly right from the start. We all make mistakes and instead generally start spouting vitriol, take a time to whisper and explain if you think someone does not understand some thing in WvW, not make it a public lynch mob. Of course most of the times people that spout that vitriol cant even pinpoint the problem to a single person, so they just generally whine and complain that others are not doing exactly what they had in mind. If you are getting so frustrated over a game, then take a break and calm down. Make a WvW friendly place. Most part it is, there are a lot of people in RoS that are friendly and willing to help.

The problem is that berserker has a short cooldown, and you can not heal siege at all.

So eventually, a single mesmer WILL kill the siege.

The only way to stop it is if you have at least one person guarding the siege to kill berserker before it starts swinging. Its not a very long window, and if you wait too long it will merrily keep swinging again every few seconds too.

If there is multiple mesmers willing to exploit it, you basically can’t have any siege inside max range of the walls.

Phantasmal Berserkers do not appear out of thin air, there is always mesmer creating them. Instead of standing next to your siege waiting berserkers to spawn, go find that mesmer and attack it. Go to the source of those berserkers.

I think the problem is that Phantasmal Berkserker is a nuisance and nobody bother to do anything about them, since after all it takes so much time for mesmer to kill any siege with berserkers, then they just ignore berserkers and that determined mesmer creating them over and over again. Yes, eventually that determined mesmer is going to kill your siege if you let him/her.

Phantasmal Berserker is nowhere as powerful as some seem to think (no 5k aoe, no 1-5 second cooldown and it is quite squishy), it takes quite a bit of time to kill even arrow cart with berserker. When berserkers starts to appear near your siege weapons there is that wall hugging mesmer near. Maybe you could find friendly mesmer to target and summon Phantasmal Berkerkers on that mesmer that target your siege equipment, it works both way.

Personally I think it is a profession specific quirk that works as intended, hardly something that effect battle outcome in major way. Mesmers lack any real AoE, so berserker becomes choice of weapon then out of necessity.

I hate Spectral Grasp and Scorpion Wire, so I think those should be removed. Also I hate that heavy armor classes can withstand so much damage and that thieves can move so fast and stay invisible a lot. Then I hate that necros have so much health and …

No. Camps should be able to take by small force if no enemy players are there to defend. It is one way of making something to do with those that are on low population server where one world owns everything – hit-and-run camps and control points for exp, karma and money. I personally do not see any more reason to discourage underdogs any more. Could OP post video of taking camp in 20 seconds with two people?

I tend to run grenades and bombs (+ elixir gun) in PvE. Depending on mood I do use all weapons – rifle, pistol/shield and pistol/pistol. Grenades and bombs give nice AoE damage and CC combined with primary weapons. Takes some time to get used to grenade slow flying time, but in PvE mobs are very predictable, so grenades are easy to use in that sense. Haven’t really used that much flamethrower, but don’t have big problems aiming it. Just keep your target in middle of the screen and close it works quite nice.

Why the need to make everyone PvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bogey.5423

Bogey.5423

Why would it even matter what section they put the achievement under? Your complaint is not that the achievement is in the wrong section.

Let me say it even one more time. “Been There, Done That” is very heavy on PvE (about 95% of its completion is exploring PvE maps). When people that have no interest of doing any PvP can do it to ~95% and then abandon it does not really seem fair in the sense that they do not want to switch to different server and get it done without any PvP. That would seem like a borderline system abuse. On dominating server it require absolutely no effort to get those maps completed, there is really only one vista that require a bit of jumping and two or three skill points that require some PvE.

.. They wanted to keep 100% completion soloable so everyone can complete it.

But it is not soloable. It is only soloable on dominating server when there really require no effort at all, only a little time to walk through all locations.

Bogey.5423

i think they got it wrong.
it is the other way round, you see.

WvW PvPers are required to go through PvE content before they can do WvW PvP at level 80 with exotics and all etc.

The 100% World Completion is for WvW PvPers to complete, not for those PvE Care Bears.

It is a WvW PvP achievement, not PvE. Dun get it wrong now.

Why is it in Hero section of achievements, which is all PvE achievements? Does it make sense that achievement that require ~95% PvE is then WvW achievement? That was my main point – achievement that is very PvE heavy require no contribution to PvP on right server (which is now free to switch and later with gems).

[Hex]

Why the need to make everyone PvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bogey.5423

Bogey.5423

Let me try to sum up the situation. On dominating server WvW map completion require absolutely no PvP at all, just walk from location to location, it is basically same as doing city completion (have done it on dominating server and didn’t have to PvP a single person). On server that has beaten into submission, getting map completion is in practical sense impossible. There have been discussion to wait rotation and wait until home server owns places, so how is that any different really than just switching to dominating server to complete maps.

I think core issue here is that 100% map completion is very PvE achievement (95% or so), so doing all PvE maps and then abandoning the achievement only because do not want to do any PvP would be frustrating. If PvE people would be here to complain that they want to get some WvW achievement without doing any WvW, then it would be unjustified claim. “Been There, Done That” is more of a PvE achievement that require tourist trip to PvP area, where on dominating server or waiting that their home server owns those locations really contribute nothing to PvP.

“Been there, done that” is a PvE title and should not require any PvP. Either move to WvW title section, which wouldn’t feel right either, or then remove WvW maps from title. It is rather easy to get all locations when on dominating server, but it is silly to require “system abuse” by server hopping to get PvE title done. Server selection should not be an hindrance to get PvE title, everyone should have equal chance to get titles done regardless what server they have chosen.

You keep accusing me of using staw manning, but fail to provide actual quotes. I am more than willing to admit being wrong or using fallacies, but then provide me reason for it, not just insist that “[I] employ straw man tactics” without any justifications for it.

I guess this is my second failure in providing an actual quote then:

You have option not to do that achievement if that clashes with your role playing experience on game, but you do not have any right to demand that game mechanics have to be made so that it concur with your role playing experience.

As I have never demanded any such thing, you can do well and apologize.

Actually, you did some quote mining there trying to make me look like I used straw man argument.

100% map completion is game mechanics achievement. You have option not to do that achievement if that clashes with your role playing experience on game, but you do not have any right to demand that game mechanics have to be made so that it concur with your role playing experience. What I am really baffled about this is that why use role playing argument against game mechanics? Seems that you like to use the baggage of role playing (aiding charr is unacceptable for your character) when it feel to fit your opinion and ignore the baggage of role playing (getting arbitrary 100% completion of turning every stone in the world) when it does not fit your opinion.

You have your own definition of role playing so that your character cares about you, which would not really be role playing in that sense for some. Like I said in above (full) quote that I am baffled about this argument, would explaining it then be correct way to do it? Or just starting to insist that I straw man you because I couldn’t read your mind about role playing definition that you use, which is different to what usually is meant by role playing. I do not see any reason to apologize you, since at the time I didn’t know that you mix up role playing and your achievement as player when it is convenient and differentiate those two things when it is not (which I even pointed out).

This isn’t even productive anymore and frankly we both deserve infraction on derailing the topic.

As for the straw man, I wasn’t claiming anything. I openly objected to you employing straw man tactics.

To conclude – yes; we have different notions of roleplaying. Not only that, we have different notions of a conversation too. Mine doesn’t require my interlocutor explaining him/herself to me.

You keep accusing me of using staw manning, but fail to provide actual quotes. I am more than willing to admit being wrong or using fallacies, but then provide me reason for it, not just insist that “[I] employ straw man tactics” without any justifications for it.

We do indeed have very different view on conversations, since I would rather have conversation about the game and role playing in the game (even though I am not a role player, but you brought it up). You have gone beyond conversation and just started to sling mud. Instead of explaining your position decided to just criticize me personally, hence this is redundant.

[Hex]

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

in Lore

Bogey.5423

What I am really baffled is when and where have I demanded a change in game mechanics. Are you even reading what’s being written or skimming through posts just to find something to turn into a Straw Man and then bash it with even more nonsense?

That is not actually what I am saying and lets not concentrate on who can “spot” more fallacies since it derails the whole conversation totally.

No, you can’t. Because the game makes you kill Ascalonian ghosts in order to help the Charr. You are not presented with an option to tell them to kitten themselves and if you ignore the Hearts, you cannot complete the map. Roleplaying is freedom to choose between several choices. Being forced to do something your character finds objectable is not good roleplaying.

Here is the problem. You consider that helping charr by killing ghost is against your character and hinders your role playing, but in the same time you consider that you need to do arbitrary achievement of completing map, which some would agree that is not really role playing since it does not correlate nothing what your character experience. Clearly you have different definition on role playing.

If go to specific instance where your character is “forced” to help charr kill supernatural vengeful ghosts that are killing every living thing wandering in their area (charr/human, doesn’t matter), then your character has option to leave area since it does not agree on his/her mentality to kill ghosts or (s)he could kill evil vengeful ghosts that haunt this world and send them to rest in the mists. This is a role playing decision.

Your personal decision then is to kill x number of ghosts to get yellow bar to fill up to get renown heart done for map completion. Why would your character care if you get your map completion?

This what I am after, completely different things. Majority of renown hearts have multiple ways to complete it, so I think it provides enough to role play character in multiple ways. Why would xenophobic character be in charr lands anyway? Wouldn’t it be against that character’s convictions to roam around “enemy” lands?

Explain me what I do not understand on your position and not just claim that I don’t read any of your posts and just straw man you. Those accusations does not help me one iota to understand your position.

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

in Lore

Posted by: Bogey.5423

Bogey.5423

Again: I have no objections in my character defending against attacks but I do object the game forcing me to help the Charr and be friendly with them. How can one roleplay a character with deep resentment towards the Charr when he’s forced to help them on every turn? Why can’t we join the Separatists instead of being forced to side with Jennah and her Charr-hugging ways? How can you roleplay “alongside and around” the fact that your character is a traitor to his own views and beliefs?

Limited options are bad.

You have objections doing renown hearts that help charr because it destroy your role playing? I do not see any reason why you would then have to do those renown hearts. Be a role player then and refuse to do those since it conflicts your characters xenophobic opinions. Why does the game mechanics mean that much for a role player that you would have to complete renown heart that your character disagree with? Wouldn’t it for role playing sense not to complete any renown hearts since those objectives do not actually change world in permanent way? Is there something that I just fail to see here?

If you are talking about personal story and that you have limited options there, how could personal story be so that it caters every single opinion that some role player has while maintaining universal storyline? Only way I see it is possible is that world is unique to each player, otherwise whole world makes no sense if world events are not forced on individual. Besides, even though you feel like hero of all things, world events happen despite what you do or don’t do.

On the topic, I do feel that “ninja zombies” are a bit unoriginal idea for “end” monsters. Original GW has mursaat, afflicted/shiro’ken, margonites/tormented and destroyers that were all original enemies, now in my opinion risen are just unimaginative. Hope future expansions have more interesting enemies.

Bogey, I was thinking about doing this when I saw the OP, and I got down to your post and said, Genius!

I have used WASD movement since Half Life 1 which moved me towards more action oriented games and away from sim city, etc. That being said, I am wondering, how easy it is to get used to having your hand in the middle of the keyboard when for so long it has been on the left side? Sounds stupid, but I wonder how quick it is to adapt to that kind of thing?

Marked D, G and Z with glue drops so that my hand can find correct keys easy just by touch alone (normal keyboard would have F marked anyway). Took some time to get used to it, but I think now switching toolkit, fire single skill out of it and then back to main weapon is becoming quite instinctive and same time can keep moving all the time. Multibutton mouse would achieve same result by shifting part of the action to right hand, but I would guess that require as much getting used to that setup as rebinding keys in “weird” way. Only “problem” with my setup is that weapons that have aiming (trebuchets, stationary mortars) require too some getting use to (S move aim left, A fire, X move aim right).

Loving engineer so much, different kits and skills that opens whole lot more options during combat. Haven’t played long with other two weapon classes, but for mesmer there is a lot of auto attack when you have depleted all skills from one weapon and wait chance to switch to another weapon. So if you like to keep your fingers at work all the time, then I guess elementalist would keep those fingers working almost as much as engineer does.

Problem is that game is very new and I do not see being in multiple guilds any different that leaving one guild to see how some other guild suits me. If I would find guild that would tolerate me and I would enjoy being in, then I would probably stick to it. So, give it a time to everyone to find guild that they feel comfortable with.

Some of the personal story steps seem require that you have advance knowledge (tried it before) what is going to happen in order to successfully tackle those situations.

Personally I would prefer that story is just that – a story. More demanding content should be elsewhere than in personal story. Resurrects in story break the storytelling and immersion. Benny Hill chase scene was excellent comparison, it sometimes feels like it when circle strafing hordes of enemies that pop out of nowhere. For me personal story is a to-do-checklist in between wonderful dynamic/world events, dungeons and exploring.
