Would Crafters Like This?

I made a suggestion, in the suggestions category that new types of ore be implemented into the game.

The post is here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Tyria-just-got-Deeper-Dig-it/first#post2573477

Please leave your feedback!

The basic idea is new types of rare ore found deep in caves and underwater caverns. This ore would be about as rare as orichalcum and would take some work to get to them as they would be populated with similarly themed monsters. Sometimes the entrance to these cave would be in caves and usually would be hard to spot. The ore would be crystalline, volcanic and some type of aquatic ore. You would use this to make similarly themed gear with flashy effects (Glow, mist, smoke water dripping, magma dripping).

If you like this idea please leave a comment on the post I linked. I only posted here to see what crafters specifically would think.

Thanks.

Honestly I don’t know how this hasn’t been dealt with already. I wonder if the Anet team is ran pretty thin between tasks. I hope not. I wouldn’t mind going back to new content only once a month or even better one major content release once a month with a minor one added to that 2 weeks after – if that would give them more resources to add more features and improve the ones they have.

Allow players to add to the stack of items in the guild bank without needing to pull it out of the guild bank first, add item to the stack in your own inventory and THEN put the whole stack back in.

Is there a reason it’s not already like this?

If the weather effects significantly impact how well you can see, this would get game imbalancing. In towns it could work well, but in combat areas weather effects should not impair the player’s ability to see.

Ideally it would only limit the distance that you can see. This wouldn’t effect you in combat so much that you would be less likely to defeat your foe, but it would add a bit of a “whats around the corner” element. I would honestly probably hate it if I was nearly blinded by sand, rain or snow. But a little impairment is realistic and immersive IMO.

Also add the Horns of the Dragon and the Holographic Dragon wings.

I would like to see it rain more often or harder when it does for longer. I like your idea of sandstorms. There should be more snow storms as well.

What they have is good they just need it more dense and for longer periods of time. I don’t notice the weather often enough.

You’re right, I should have mentioned snow storms! I’m going to go back and edit it and add Wind effects too, I meant to add that but it slipped my mind.

I think if they made the rain last longer and more dense (and added the other weather effects) and added special events during this time or something, it would definitely be more noticed!

Having them in the hero panel would be good because you’d be able to pull out whatever mini you’d like whenever you’d like without having to go to the bank for anything.

But at the same time I think adding lots of stuff to the hero panel will eventually add too many tabs to it and it may eventually need to be condensed somehow.

Adding more lighting effects to the game in forests and caves and night settings would greatly increase the look, feel and emersion of this game. When it’s night, make it darker, it doesn’t always need to be clear as day. At least in some zones more than others. Grab a torch. We’re adventurers but I can see everything from where I stand at all times! I don’t suggest making it a pain, I just mean make it noticeably darker. I often don’t even realize when it’s become night in the game. Caves should be darker for sure. Let torches provide the extra light. Not pitch black just darker.

Weather is NEEDED! The world has events but that doesn’t make a map alive. There is more potential. Give queensdale some dense rain! Add periodic rain/lighting/thunder storms to different maps. Places near the coast could have periodic monsoons-type effects – maybe the krait get active during these times, maybe special events happen during these storms. Give ore sand storms maybe. Maybe lightning elementals and earth elementals get rowdy during rain/sand storms. Shiver peaks could have blizzards! And lastly, wind! A lot of gear has dangly bits and more should. When you climb to the top of a peak or are trapped in one of these storms, lets see that stuff sway in the wind! This would truly help to make a map feel alive.

Mount Maelstrom has a volcano. Maybe that thing could become active once a month with unique events to that period of time. Ash is in the air and visibility is lessened a bit. Periodic magma balls fall from the sky setting things on fire where players will need to put them out and avoid getting hit by them all together. MAYBE while this volcano is active special magma/volcanic ore becomes available that can be used to make unique magma/volcano gear that has smoldering smoke rolling off of it and fire. (I have another post that expands on this idea here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Tyria-just-got-Deeper-Dig-it/first#post2572196 )

Find new skills for your weapons!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Bolthar.7192

Bolthar.7192

A new approach to an idea I had earlier:

In short:
Weapon Trainers – in cities, train you to use new skills for weapons your class can use.
or
Weapon Skill Unlocks – more skills will unlock at after default skills are unlocked only at a slower pace.
Weapon Masters – Hidden throughout Tyria, teach a specific skill for a specific weapon at level 80. These skills give a character a feel of power
These skills are swappable with the default weapon skills, same as utility skills.

A bit more:
Lets use a greatsword for example. It has 5 skills to it. At different levels you can learn from weapon skill trainers a few new skills that you can swap out with the starting default skills. Even better though, hidden though-out Tyria are Weapon specialist – old combat legends – that will teach you an even more advanced skill for a weapon (only at level 80). These skills are more flashy than the default ones and give a player a feeling of progression to combat as they level up and the feeling that a character is becoming more skilled with their weapons and powerful.

Another idea to the acquisition of weapon skills after your default skills are unlocked and would be that instead of weapon trainers, weapon skills would unlock the more you use a weapon. The weapon would level up so to say but in a horizontal manner rather than doing more damage. Maybe only certain unlocks are available at each 20, 40, 60 interval.

Make some noise if you’d like to see this implemented!

Tyria just got Deeper, Dig it!

In short: Different layers to Tyria under the surface with different themes – Crystalline, Magma – where special ore (and other mats) can be found to craft similarly themed items.

More DEPTH: There are caves in the game, but imagine this: You explore a cave, find a crack, and through the crack you find a tunnel deeper into the cave. Down, down you go until you find an opening with crystalline formations all around. Here and there are a few veins of unique crystalline ore that can be used to make similarly themed gear. But between you and them are many monsters. As you make your way to the back of this opening you find another crevice in the wall. Through here you go deeper and deeper. Again it opens up but this time to magma pools and smoke. Not for nothing though, there are even more precious magma/volcanic ore that can be used to craft similarly themed gear with smoldering smoke rolling off of it and magma dropping from it. It’s a dangerous journey though, as there are no way-points, but very lucrative if you can survive!

In addition there could be unique aquatic ore that only forms underwater. Maybe in obscure caverns to again craft similarly themed gear dripping with water.

(With a little creativity, mats for other crafts could also be found from these places)

Make some noise if you’d like to see this implemented!

It was in a video interview, if I recall correctly, [specifically a part] where Colin was talking about the future of how expansions and whatnot would be implemented. Colin was talking about how he wasn’t sure if they were going to release new content in batches like Living Story or just make a box expansion with new skills. He also wasn’t sure exactly how new skills were going to come out (same idea, box expansion or over time).

The closest quote I got was:

If we’re regularly adding a skill to each profession and a trait to each profession, as well as a weapon they can’t currently use and making those available for those professions or even new weapons entirely, all of those add into the mix of creating diverse gameplay while adding a lot of options to players. As for a new skill, I’m not going to throw any out yet as the skill team would kill me! But they will share stuff when they’re close to getting that content out there.

There was another video/interview/something where Colin said it’s more likely to expect to see the current weapons being handed across professions than getting new weapons entirely, at least in the near future.

Thanks for sharing that with me. I remember seeing that now, too. But I still don’t think that specifically refers to weapon skills. Just skills in general (utility).

as well as a weapon they can’t currently use and making those available for those professions or even new weapons entirely

If you make more weapons available to professions, that means more weapon skills.

Let me be more specific… a 2 handed weapon has 5 skills. I am suggesting that you are given swappable skills to be able to further customize the skills that SINGLE weapon has. For example the same way you can swap out your utility skills, it would be nice to be able to learn and swap out weapon skills for individual weapons. I don’t mean new weapons you can swap for new skills (though a 2h battle axe would be nice).

Crafting: Unique Skins

Getting any crafting skill from 1 – 400 isn’t a hard task, If this was implemented these unique skins would be dumped on the TP causing the items to be ‘not so unique’.

I agree with the fact that crafting may need a little more excitement though (:

No, it’s not a hard task, but it can be an expensive one and not a very rewarding one either if you’re already level 80 when you do it. Anet is rolling out the 400 to 500 levels to crafting soon where some of the gear can only be crafted once a day. This same method could be applied to the unique skins. I’m only making the suggestion that the lower levels are given more meaning with the addition of unique skins (the game could use more, ESPECIALLY at lower levels), if it was considered or implemented, Anet would decide just how they wanted to do it. I just think if done right it would be a great improvement.

Crafting: Unique Skins

I think it’s a pity that you can craft almost all the way to 400 and run into no unique skins through your craft that makes your crafting profitable at all.

As it stands crafting isn’t very worth while until you get to 80 and that’s just not how it should be. why should a player have to craft so much low level gear that is hardly worth resalvaging when they are already level 80 just to be able to craft the high level gear that they can actually use or profit from?

Maybe that’s not fairly said, but my point is this: Add in unique skins through all crafts throughout the process of leveling from 1 to 400. I believe this will make crafting more exciting, profitable and add an “oh I recognize that blade/helmet/shoulder piece” effect to the game in a way that it doesn’t ONLY effect legendaries.

However, the first content released bleeds into the second bit released 2 weeks later. So really you have a month to complete the content. Also, your personal story is not time sensitive so there’s no rush there. And lastly, I guess, some of the living story content that you see is something that will return next year anyways. I get your frustration but I don’t think you need to be. Just take a deep breath, and have fun with the game. If you’re not ready for the content, don’t bother with it. If you want the reward though, then take a break from your personal story and join in the new content

Yes, they will be adding new skill challenges and skills in general in addition to new traits, however when they say skills, it would seem they are referring to the utility skills. I’m focusing on the weapon side specifically. Utility skills are nice but we use our weapon skills far more often then our utility skills or elite skill.

Home Instance / Player Housing

in Suggestions

Posted by: Bolthar.7192

Bolthar.7192

It has surely been mentioned a million times before in a million other threads. The home instance plays such a small part in this game at this time that it might as well not even exist.

Anet has added the quarts crystal node reward to home instances and that was a good step but not enough. With no public plans to better the home instance and utilize it, I would like to also suggest player housing to be added to the home instance.

Furniture such as weapon and armor chests, armor display manikins and weapon displays could be crafted or purchased in the gem store.

Trophies of your achievements can be awarded and displayed in this instance. Maybe this housing can be upgraded from a shack or shed to a house to a grand hall or something as players become more wealthy or reach different achievement tiers.

This would give players more to work towards at 80 other than a legendary item, add more to the gem store, utilize the home instance and possibly even add a new craft to the game (probably not though lol)!

(as a side note, I know this has been mentioned before but I could not find anything using the search function. I would like to know what the community thinks of this idea, please try not to focus on “there are other threads.”)

I have been feeling a little to the tune that character progression feels noticeably limited at level 80 and even before. One thing that I think would be a great addition to the game and add a deeper feeling of character progression is the addition of alternate weapon skills.

Once you’ve reached level 10 you’ve probably used and unlocked all the weapons available to your class and found the ones you like most. For the next 70 levels and the rest of the time you play you will likely be using the same skills. This can begin to feel a little dull. Adding “weapon trainers” – or something to that note – who can train players at different levels (20 -80 maybe) new weapon skills for each usable weapon. These skills would be swap-able with current skills (The way utility skills can be swapped). This would be a great way to add character progression, more customizable combat/play-style and further reason for players to revisit other weapon types previously dismissed.

I saw that there will be new utility skills at some point in the future. I think giving each weapon additional skills to choose from would also be a good idea. I would love to know what the community thinks of this idea.

In addition to the hearts and events in a map, add a story line for each map or certain maps. This story would have take the player from place to place through the map helping NPCs and showing the player the history of each map, how it used to be, what these ruins were, what happened etc. Give the player rewards at the end of key steps to the story line and a special reward at the very end of the chain, similar to the player story line.

This would add a sense of direction and history to each zone while still having that great sense of exploration you get from finding random events and completing the hearts on the map. And everyone loves rewards.

Armor and weapons, unless exotic, sell for a copper over vendor prince on the AH. What’s worse is that crafted items are the same. This is because of the lvl 1 look all the items have.

Give crafted items different models to give them some value and make crafting pay off a little more between lvl 1 and 400. As it is, people who like to craft kinda get the short end of the stick. Experience is not a very exciting reward for crafting.

Will Combat Mechanics be deeper ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bolthar.7192

I think part of the problem with the combat is that you can’t customize your play style as much as we all expected and may have been led to believe. We get to switch between weapons that determines the play style we get. We get 5 skills total that never change no mater what level we are or how far we progress through the game for the weapon that has the play style we like best. We get a handful of utility skills that complement that play style and then a somewhat confusing trait system that we try to tailor to that play style. The point is there isn’t much variety and a limited feeling of control.

The combat itself feels out of control. Spam 1-5, dodge, repeat doesn’t really suffice. There isn’t much crowd control to speak of either and the skill set up with 5 weapon skills, a heal, and only 3 utility skills doesn’t leave much room for any.

I suggested in a post of my own that weapon trainers were added that allowed you to train different skills for different weapons at different levels in the game to add customization to your weapon skills and add a sense of progression to combat (you can read the whole post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Progression-in-GW2/first#post794870) but I don’t know if that would be enough or if it would just make things worse when it comes to balance. What I do know is something needs to be done with the combat system. I like this game and I don’t want to see people give up on it so early.

Progression in GW2.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bolthar.7192

Bolthar.7192

I play MMOs for a few reasons. I like the scope, the size of it. A huge world to explore and discover. I like to create my own unique character and take it from zero to hero. And of course, the reward and the feeling of progression all of that gives me!

Progression
Anet said in the begining that they want you to feel like a hero from the start. Down bosses at level 1 and all the way through to lvl 80. That’s great, but I’m not feeling that progression in this game the way I think an MMO should have.

Gear and Crafting
Fighting bosses at lvl 1 is great but when I’m lvl 50 and I’m still getting gear that looks like lvl 1 gear I don’t really feel like I’ve come very far from the begining of my journey. When I spend the time and money to level crafting from 1 to 200 or 300 and everything still looks like the same old lvl 1 gear I don’t feel like I’ve progressed into being a skilled crafter at all! There needs to be more armor and weapon models!! I understand the gear grind in this game is cosmetic but that shouldn’t mean that the ONLY way to get awesome gear is to do dungeons.

PvP
PvP sounds like it has it right in that you earn glory points and buy better looking gear. But having to gamble my points to buy a pack of random pieces that need to be crafted together to make the gear I want in the Mystic Forge is a daunting process that causes me to shy away from PvP more than I would normally. Whats wrong with having sets of gear at different tiers that you can buy with glory points and then crafting “special items” from gear you get from the rabbit chests? Or even still allowing players to buy those packs from the vendors with their extra points if they want. I like an in depth system as much as the next person and I like the crafting idea with PvP, but I feel that PvP and crafting should more separate than packaged together.

Action Bar/ Skills
When most of the skills on your action bar changes very little from the early levels the feeling of progression feels even more distant. We are all aware of the customization options we get through weapon and utility skill swapping, but when you find a weapon that fits your play style you tend to find yourself using that weapon a lot and that means half of your skills are the same most of the way from level 1 to 80. This makes combat begin to feel boring. I think weapon trainers offering different weapon skills/abilities for different weapons, at different levels, that could be swapped in for other weapon skills would be well received and provide further customization to the players play style and the feeling of character progression.

Traits and Skills
In other MMOs classes are given different trees to spec in that changes the skills they have and the roles they exceed at. I can see this as being possible with with the way the trait system works in GW2, but it is FAR more complicated and may be entirely lost on the casual player.

World Map and “Zones”
The map is very nice and I love it. Something that would make it better though is to add a feature allowing you to change the zone selected where your current zones completion progress is displayed. This way you can find zones you haven’t finished without needing to travel there first. Also adding an outline to the zone your mouse hovers over may help the player to know the layout of the world. In addition I think a story line should be added to each zone beyond what the hearts provide. Similar to the personal story but this story doesn’t need to be instanced and would take the player from the start of each map/zone where creatures are lower level to the end of the map where creatures are higher level while giving the player that maps story/history and rewarding the player at the end of the chain the same as you are rewarded in your personal story. Everyone loves rewards, the kind you get in the personal story. The Karma system is great but can’t replace the feeling you get when you get a nice piece of loot at the end of a mission or battle.

Rewards / Loot
Rewards from veteran or champion monsters are depressing. You can spend 5 to 10 minutes pissing yourself while killing a giant shark or just a giant in general with 4+ other players all to get nothing more than some white trash item or salvage scrap or nothing at all. Difficult creatures/mobs should have a rewarding loot table.

Many great ideas have been implemented into GW2 that help put it above the others, but I’m afraid that if they rely on those implements alone and overlook the things that have been done right in the past they may be shorting themselves, the game, and the players. I love Guild Wars 2 and Arena Net and have my respect, but as a fan, a player and a part of the community I think it would be wrong not to address things like this.

Give a +1 if you agree on any of these topics. Leave your own comment.

I still wish Anet implemented cloaks. Someone posted some ideas back before release that I thought were really good:

Backbraces in their place is kinda… unexciting. IMO anyways.

I have a couple ideas that I think would be beneficial to the world map. The first being a zone outline feature, and the second and primary idea is a zone selection feature.

The outline ideally would just be a subtle outline around the zone your mouse hovers on. This would help distinguish zones as you move your mouse across the map and would aid in getting acquainted with the over all zone layout and familiarity of the map as a whole. This also would tie in with my second suggestion.

When looking at the world map you see two tables of data on the upper left side: Your over all completion of the world, and your completion of the zone you’re currently in. The function of the zone selection feature would be to change the zone displayed under the world completion table. This would allow you to open your map and see the completion of individual zones without needing to actually be in the zone. This way if your sitting in LA and you want to go back and complete any zones you haven’t fully explored yet you can see what zones aren’t complete without traveling all the way there first.

Any thoughts?

The Frustrating problem of Autobalance.

What grinds my nerves is when I try to play with a friend so we join the same server but get put on different teams, even though we’re already partied up, no matter. Then… maybe we wait it out maybe we switch to the same team but THEN auto balance and BAM! Different teams again…

A Few TP Suggestions

I agree 100%!

Also I think that MAYBE this global thing isn’t working so well. Too much supply per demand. Or maybe it’s something else that’s the problem, but it’s practically not even worth selling items on the TP when people are only selling them for 1 copper over the vendor price, which after the listing fee and selling fee is always a negative profit over just selling to a vendor.

I dunno, but definitely armor weight filtering should be added. +1

I suggest you deal with WOWGL and PvPBank!

I agree this is a problem though I’m not really sure how to fix it. Maybe accounts that are being used for this, when reported should be investigated (make sure they aren’t hacked accounts) and then have the IP banned as well as the account.

Saving Character Builds

I agree being able to save builds would be a very nice feature. With as many options as there are it can be pretty hard to remember that great build you had last time you were in a dungeon or doing PvP or whatever.

With the price of the way points being as high as they are, the Trading Post being as fruitless as it is and all the other gold sinks in the game I don’t think this idea would harm the game in the least.

A “Build 1” and “Build 2” tab in the trait tab would be a nice way to save builds.

pvp salvage alternative

There are a few posts already about this sort of thing. I think it would be better over all to just have vendors of different tiers, like they have now, that actually sell gear instead of boxes of random stuff. I think being able to see the gear piece you want and the amount it costs and then saving up and buying it would be better than wasting the points as you said on random crap and then googling how to make the gear you want at the fountain.

The fountain does add a nice bit of experimentation that is fun and does a good job of keeping people doing pvp so they can get the gear they want, but if they just made other gear separate from the tiers that you could only get via the fountain, I think that would do the trick pretty well too.
