Guys, they already are working on proliferating every weapon to every profession. I imagine this will be a monumental task as, with Elementalist alone, they have to come up with 4 sets of skills for each new weapon.
source for this please?
There was mention of adding new weapons to the game, but not new skills to weapons. In a news post they mentioned adding new skills but didn’t specify weapon skills.
Heck yes! I have a similar post on the same topic and a little extra here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Environmental-Weather-You-ll-love-it/first#post2592489
Also the screen shot above may be a tad too dark, I’m not sure but I DO want to be able to make use of a torch in more than just one jumping puzzle. With everything always so nicely lit up you never notice the change in day to night nor do you get the awesome immersion effect awesome lighting effects can give.
+1 I would also like to be able to at least change my tag.
From the (enter profession here) base you will receive:
Profession specific missions
Profession specific armor and weapons
More Detail
Each profession has a “League” or something to that effect. Located in LA periodically or maybe even daily you would be able to go to the base they are set up in and get a mission. Like a personal bounty hunt. Maybe people from around Tyria ask the leagues to provide assistance to them around the world and these assignments are divvied out to you from the leader of your profession league.
In addition you can get profession specific gear at different level tiers (20, 40, 80). This all would set you apart as the profession you are and make it feel like it makes a difference. Something SIMILAR should be done with the Vigil etc.
I like your idea. but for them to make a new map for us to push the frontier… I don’t know if they ever do, Anet seems happy to just dish out temporary content…. much to my dismay
right, but they HAVE to make the rest of the world available at some point. And it doesn’t make sense with the lore they’ve given us that Cantha has been cut off and we don’t know what happened to them but we celebrate with no thought to the rest of the world. Ya know? They have to move forward at some point, I’m just saying when they do, they should make it more community driven and make what you do REALLY actually matter and have an effect on the world.
I think the search for the weapon master type people at level 80 for special and flashy skills would give level 80’s something more to do and give them the feeling that they are still progressing after level 80.
This is only true if they made the trainers like the Guild Bounty Hunters who wander around their specific zone. Incidentally I think that would be a really great idea. I would also like to have to fight them with the chosen weapon in order to even get them to offer.
i like this idea, so long as it isnt attached to a guild mission or something like that though.
Yeah, I only mentioned guild bounty hunter missions is because currently they’re the only thing in the game that has a contact who doesn’t stay put and wanders around the entirety of the zone.
The benefit of this, too, is that it wouldn’t punish those who can’t be bothered to find the guy. They would still have the basic skills which are just fine. But if you want something different you can find the contact you need, and do something, either fight him, or initiate an event. Thinking about it, though, I think there should only be one contact per weapon and as they wander different skill slots are available to work with. It’s just that if it were one guy per power there would be guys everywhere and it would look kind of rediculous. Then again, maybe the world is big enough to accomodate that.
The way I imagined it was if you used an axe then you would have to find the axe master somewhere out there in the world and he would teach you probably one new “master” skill for axes. And then this would be the same for the other weapons and shield. I THINK we’re on the same page.
Well thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it. I get excited just thinking about this kind of thing being in GW2.
There are games on the horizon that have a lot of new innovative features – like this even – that I worry are gonna make GW2 seem kinda dull in comparison. If Anet doesn’t start implementing something fresh their game will grow stale to people as these new games come out. The living story isn’t enough to save it. A lot of people already feel like the game is missing something. Once you’re at level 80 with the characters you want to be that feeling does creep up on you.
I hope Anet does implement something like this, or their own amped up version of it soon. It doesn’t make a lot of sense that we’re all just like “forget about the rest of the world, we’re good so let’s party!”
i like this idea, so long as it isnt attached to a guild mission or something like that though.
I agree. And IDEALLY it wouldn’t be!
The rest of the world (Cantha etc.) has been cut off since the rise of Zhaitan. Now that he has been defeated we celebrate our victory and remember our hardships though the living story. Well what about Cantha and the rest? How can we rejoice with their fate such a mystery? It’s time to reach out.
What we do is supposed to make a difference in GW2. I don’t feel like it has as much as I think Anet had hopped it would.
The Idea: A few maps should be made available to the players, except not in a “The path has been cleared and settlements made. Go help the struggle!” kind of way. Cantha may be in ruin. Who knows what plagues them. Don’t give the history to us by saying this has been done, go have fun. Instead let the heroes of Tyria clear the path and make the history!
A handful of maps are released and added to the main map where players, the community, work together to push forward through the map and build settlements by competing events that clear out anything currently populating the site and donating stone and wood toward the construction of each settlement or outpost. This would be like a map wide event that takes days to complete. Once the settlements are up, or certain ones, perhaps the map moves into a different phase where the conditions change and the wild life becomes more active and aggressive. There is a story behind each map and the players progress it together and become a part of it. Ultimately map conditions are fulfilled and expansion into the connecting map is available. There would likely be more than one map connected to each starting map so different requirements would need to be fulfilled to be able to expand into all connecting maps. Now the story continues. Players discover more of the story and what has happened as these new maps are explored and fulfilled.
More:
As it stands now, world bosses like the Shatterer and Tequatl land in the same place every time predictably. With a system like this A Legendary type boss could appear in it’s own way on the map at random locations and wreak havoc on settlements it runs into. Now the players can put them down and help rebuild again.
When players make donations they would be rewarded based on how much they donated. If the materials donated are just additional items gathered while mining ore or chopping down trees, then maybe the rewards can be boons. If the materials donated are actual crafting materials then perhaps a more fitting reward should be given, though the latter of the two would be more fitting as this process would be repeated from time to time as the settlements are damaged or even destroyed.
I would like to hear the opinion of the community to this idea and any ideas you might have that could improve this idea or details that may have been overlooked. I know this may boil down to a player fantasy, but maybe it will get some notice.
“Hidden throughout Tyria”—they wouldn’t remain that way for very long before the locations were all over the net. And then, because everyone can find them immediately, the whole journey and mystery of it all would be lost and the devs may as well have just added some extra skills to the current list from the current menus…
The main idea here is that you would have a better feeling of progression to your combat as you level your character and once you’re level 80 you can go out and find the weapon master for your favorite weapons, or all of them if you’re a completionist. These wouldn’t be some NPC sitting in a cave in the middle of Queensdale. They would be difficult to get to. You would have to work to get to each weapon master NPC. This way having these skills would set you apart from the others that maybe weren’t as ambitious as you and didn’t get their master skill or skill set or didn’t get it for the same weapon(s) you did.
Just because the locations would be on a website or wiki doesn’t mean the adventure wouldn’t be there or that it should just be another option on a list. All of the recipes for craftable items can be found online and Anet knew that would happen, but that didn’t seem to convince them to just give all the recipes to you and ruin the discovery.
I suggested something like this a few days ago. It got about as much attention as yours has so far, sadly. It is a good idea and something that REALLY should be implemented. My idea was to the tune that anything that we’ve earned via achievements should be available in the summery section of the achievements tab. The Flame of Kryta for example, is in one characters inventory… well what if I need it on another character? However I like the toolbox idea, too.
Like a /who type command that would list who’s in the zone kinda?
A new approach to an idea I had earlier:
In short:
Weapon Trainers – in cities, train you to use new skills for weapons your class can use.
Weapon Masters – Hidden throughout Tyria, teach a specific skill for a specific weapon at level 80. These skills give a character a feel of power
These skills are swappable with the default weapon skills, same as utility skills.A bit more:
Lets use a greatsword for example. It has 5 skills to it. At different levels you can learn from weapon skill trainers a few new skills that you can swap out with the starting default skills. Even better though, hidden though-out Tyria are Weapon specialist – old combat legends – that will teach you an even more advanced skill for a weapon (only at level 80). These skills are more flashy than the default ones and give a player a feeling of progression to combat as they level up and the feeling that a character is becoming more skilled with their weapons and powerful.Make some noise if you’d like to see this implemented!
This is what they needed to do with Elite skills like in GW1, you kill a boss creature of your class and capture an essence of its power.
Pretty lame how you just straight up buy them with skill points as it is now.
For elite skills, I think it would be cool to have to hunt them down. For utility skills, I like it the way it is. For weapon skills I like the weapon master idea.
Make sure you guys are voting on the poll.
I think they could use them anything thats different would be a nice change to see.
But personally i think they need to work on their armor first because thats… where their is really no verity.
I agree with you whole heartedly. In stead of adding so many time sensitive content to the game they should add huge amount of armor skins/models to the game, and not just for level 80! The armor variety from level 1 up needs to be wider! But they should add the capes in with such a patch. I think that most of the community would approve of it as long as it wasn’t a plain “cape” and had more of a look like suggested in the attachment above.
79% say yes so far!
21% say no.
Thats not out of a very large pool though so vote away!
Thanks everyone I appreciate your support and the time you take to read my post. I wish Anet would have more of a presence on this forum sometimes because it would be nice to know what they think or if they already have something in the works. But again, I really appreciate everyone’s feedback.
to Sir Samsonknight – I agree with you about opening up all weapons to all classes. There are a few games that are on the horizon that could make GW2 feel lacking if Anet doesn’t take notice and make some implementations of their own. The living story is not enough in its current form.
I think every map should have a story line/quest line that a player can do that tells the story of the map gives some lore and at the end rewards the player. But that’s a different topic for a different post I may post up later.
Anyways, I agree. The maps should be more mysterious and deep. Adding some proper lighting effects to each map would help with the mysterious part, but adding some deeper cave systems compelling enough to explore would really help with the depth and the mysterious side of each map and the game.
Why have levels anyway? EQN is getting rid of them. I dont want something like this level locked. because it forces people to speed level to endgame just to unlock this feature. if needed to speed level to unlock this, why have levels if I cant enjoy them?
You would IDEALLY be able to unlock more skills as you level up. This helps give the player a feeling of progression. If you got it all at once, as you did all your default skills to your weapons, then you’d be in the same boat of having all the same skills from level 1 (so to say). Then, again IDEALLY, you’d be able to hunt down weapon masters at level 80 for an extra skill, maybe two, per weapon. This way you still have something to progress your character with at level 80 besides cosmetics and slight gear improvements. As it stands, when you hit level 80, nothing new really becomes available to you to make it meaningful. At least not that I can remember.
the only thing that gets unlocked is the arah dungeon for explorable mode.
make it so that each jumping puzzle has one at the end…it would get me to do them, anything to get more variety thats for sure
Or maybe new jumping puzzles that are a part of the difficulty to getting to these masters?
weather effects for world bosses would be awesome like more darkness to Shadow Behemoth, or a blizzard during Claw of Jormag, heavy fog during Great Jungle Wurm, heavy rain during Tequatl, etc etc.
Weather effects just make everything more immersive! And epic. I really really hope they are in the process of implementing this and if they aren’t they notice all the people that want this and the positive effects it would have on the game and THEN implement it!
The Tengu could be a pretty cool playable race! Or the Kodan, but I don’t see a whole lot of customization options available for them, so maybe not. I think they should add a new heavy armor wearing class if they do add a new class, though. And the should DEFINITELY add 2h axes and maybe a pike or something like that that is distinguished from the aquatic spear.
I’m certainly not against player housing but I just don’t see the point of it. So you have a house, you put some stuff in it to look at, trophies and then what? If I had such a thing I can’t imagine I’d spend a lot of time standing around in there looking at it much less go out of my way to do so. Even if it was one of those things where guild members or friends could join you I can’t imagine anyone would have anything so mind blowing that they would all want to hang out in there.
Now if it had some other benefit like being able to earn other permanent resource nodes that would be slightly more beneficial. Even then it would probably be like I do now and just keep an alt parked at the home instance for my once a day mining. I messed up and put my infinite pickaxe on an alt I ended up hating, LOL. They should make thoise account bound but that’s a different request.
I’m trying to think of other things that might make me want to hang out inside other than a miniature version of The Sims. Maybe some kind of earned or gem store mini game? A permanent home Box O Fun would be awesome and a great way to encourage visitors.
Anyway, I hope they add it for those that want it. I guess I just don’t see much use for it. Of course keep in mind if any housing items are put in the gem store people will start running around with their heads exploding screaming, ’It’s not fair! Anet is greedy!" That pretty much happens with every decent gem store item.
Maybe they could allow you to have a garden where you could plant your own herbs that could be gathered once a day. And maybe two crafting stations that reflect the crafts you have active. Ultimately you make a good point. But maybe things like these could help you personalize it to your own needs. People love vanity things for the most part so still having something like this that displays their feats that could be upgrade-able in some way would likely be well received.
Lamps and torches should have a more obvious effect at night. It shouldn’t be so well lit everywhere all the time that a torch makes little difference. If I’m walking through a “foresty” area it should be darker then the open under the moon light. I should feel encouraged to grab a nearby torch, though it shouldn’t be SO dark that a player should be forced to.
Why have levels anyway? EQN is getting rid of them. I dont want something like this level locked. because it forces people to speed level to endgame just to unlock this feature. if needed to speed level to unlock this, why have levels if I cant enjoy them?

Well we’ve got about 12 people to vote so far, but that was over night so not that bad. Get your guildies to vote if they have an opinion!
Yet another thread about housing. Still no Anet response about this
. Because let’s be honest , apart from collecting Quarts, what is the reason to go back to Home Instance now ?
EXACTLY! It has no purpose and that’s a darn shame! They made a big deal about how choices you make will make a difference and they use the example of your personal instance. Well I have not entered that thing since The Personal story made me and that just doesn’t seem right. We might as well not have it if that’s how its gonna be. Give us player housing and a reason to go in there! Give us more in the game that will effect that.
Perhaps a ranger with their trench coat type things could use a scarf, type cape slot item. Also I agree it would nice to have a quiver and a cape both, but I think the cape would have to take the back slot. It’s a sacrifice I’d be willing to make though.
I feel like the living world content they are adding isn’t really doing the job to making GW2 feel “alive” and what they need is implementations like this in addition to a larger variety of rotating dynamic events in each map to really achieve that. The lighting effects and weather would help to make exploration a lot better I think. That and maybe some new places to explore. I made a seperate post on that here if you’re interested:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Tyria-just-got-Deeper-Dig-it/first#post2586911
I’d say, you don’t need the Weapon Trainers, just use the Profession Trainers. Go deeper and let the different Profession Trainers scattered throughout the world train different combination of weapons as well as hints that might lead you to the locations of the Weapon Masters!
I like it!
Yeah, the less different kinds of NPC’s we need to know about, probably the better! Keep it simple. I like you’re suggestion!
I made a poll lol check it out mayhaps
I would like you to take a gander at my post. It is similar, yet less intricate I guess.
If you would like to see capes in the game, or would hate to see them post your opinion in the poll. Leave a comment, too so more people see this post.
I think the search for the weapon master type people at level 80 for special and flashy skills would give level 80’s something more to do and give them the feeling that they are still progressing after level 80.
They’ll all just wiki it, find them in a day, and be done with it.
But it would give more class variety with the different skills. I like it.
They Weapon masters could be put in difficult places to reach. You have to expect that people will wiki everything, but it would still be fun to find them all, complete their challenges and receive a new flashy ability. I’m glad you like the idea. I hope it gets noticed and one day soon implemented. People can hope
I figured I would try this and see what happens. Here is a link to a poll. Click the link and Vote.
I agree, we need capes/cloaks. They don’t have to be so straight forward either. Someone said it makes everyone look the same, well this image has been floating around for a long time and I rather love the ideas.
The boot armor on Charr is different than other races, Anet could do the same with the capes. I’ve seen it done in other games. They could even make the cape hang lower on the Charrs back, under the neck main.
I want to make a pole and see how many people want to see capes/cloaks implemented vs how many would not.
I kinda like the idea, but again, only if it was an option, the way you show your helm or something, and only if it was a 2h and 1h combo. For example, a warrior using a hammer and a greatsword would not be able to do it, but a great sword and a 1h sword + shield combo would be allowed. They may have to adjust shields so they stick out a little more off the back than swords to prevent a bit of clipping though.
Imagine how boring minecraft would be if all the materials you could use were on the surface.
Well I find Minecraft boring as well. It’s basically a more challenging form of Legos. I will admit building a my cow death trap was kind of fun though.
Anyway I just brought it up because it seemed like an obvious integration of Minecraft game play.
Yeah, I can’t say I’m a HUGE fan of minecraft either, to be honest. But yes the layers do feel parallel to it.
This idea may be too big of an idea for Anet to implement, but it could be a permanent addition from a bit of the new content they keep releasing.
For example, a crafters fair or something where all the greatest craftsmen of Tyria come to LA to teach crafters new recipes. And also let you in on a newly discovered secret: the caverns as described above!
If anything they should add another heavy armor wearing profession to the game. Like a templar or something. And with this profession, pikes and two-handed axes.
How about adding a slight visual effect (to weapons that don’t already have an effect) based on the weapon upgrade you are using?
Or maybe based on the insignia used to make it? Perhaps green insignia and better have this effect. Perhaps the better the quality of the insignia, the more intense the effect? I’m not thinking anything too crazy that would outshine some of the more impressive weapons out there, but something modest yet cool could go a long ways in making a player feel like they made or found a powerful weapon. Especially when all the skins are so boringly the same before level 80. ESPECIALLY the crafted weapons.
Sounds like Minecraft.
Imagine how boring minecraft would be if all the materials you could use were on the surface.
A combination of the ideas posted here by everyone would hopefully make a similar difference.
I love your ideas here. I have had many similar ideas. I want to post some links to mine to see what you think! I feel that some of them tie in with yours in a lot of ways, not just that you had similar ideas, but that they would work well together. Especially the first one here:

I think getting gear for simply mining the stuff would be kind of lame though. The monsters in there should also rarely drop special mats that are required to craft the gear, so that it is at least a little rare.
I think you may have misunderstood me on that part. You wouldn’t get gear just from mining that stuff, that would be WAY too easy and quite lame as you said! What I meant was you’d use that ore perhaps specifically to craft gear that had a similar theme to it. Maybe the crystalline gear would have a glow to it, volcanic gear would have a similar effect to the hellfire vambracers, and the gear made from aquatic ore/mats would have a mist and water dripping from it. You know?
I would also like to see these titles and thought about this very suggestion myself. However I think they should be a little more difficult than that to get such titles. There should definitely be more titles in the game, though.
Also, I’d like to say, while I personally haven’t quite finished my personal story, I have heard it isn’t very rewarding at the end. That is to say that you don’t get anything so incredible that it’s like "yeah that was worth it!’ Adding a player house as a reward to finishing the story would be make it all WELL worth it. However, YOU KNOW people would complain that they had to do the story to get player housing. Not to mention something like that might be better if it was account wide I think.
I feel the same way man.
My post:

Leave your thoughts on it maybe.
I agree with Daishi. I would love to see more colors to effects than just blue. Later I am going to write an idea in that light visual effects be added to weapons (gear?) based on the upgrade that’s in it. Maybe I’ll post a link to it here for you when I’m done.
I agree! I was thinking this myself! Good idea, I hope it gets implemented.
I’m not too sure about the idea in its whole because you’d just end up with another farming spot that involves a bunch of mob-skipping. If it’s open world people would just leave characters parked near them and ruin the idea that way (like a jumping puzzle)
Maybe the tunnel collapses behind you once you enter or once you leave and another one opens up in the zone? People are always gonna find a way to make things as easy as possible, but I think finding all of these places would make it pretty fun.
The gear thing, like you said is a much needed addition to the game. There are not enough different themed gear. And actually now that we mention it, the gear that we have is almost too themed. To the point that it is sometimes hard to mix and match gear with other gear because it just doesn’t work. (Have you noticed the hood from the Orr set? it looks open in the back without the rest of the set.)
Weather effects like that create a lot of stress (on clients).
When I go to the Human Tutorial, my laptop goes thermo-nuclear (well, it’s always thermo-nuclear, but it goes in overdrive thermo-nuclear status). And no, it’s not because of the 2 centaur’s next to me.
Thats because you’re playing on a laptop Usually games have a setting to turn this feature down to lower settings anyways. If they made this a REAL feature/thing, maybe you could set it on low so the human starting instance doesn’t do that to you anymore
