it’s technically arena nets fault for not having oceanic servers, but if you can’t comprehend why people get mad at “night capping” then you’re delusional and obviously on a server with alot more people on while others sleep.
I wonder what it would be like if there were no regional servers at all. Then all servers would have a 24×7 distribution of some sort.
Just want to clarify that that was CrassBippy.4619’s comment, not mine.
Theres no benefit to winning or crushing an opponent in points in WvWvW. As stated in a thread in the last match up, servers push for Tier 1 so hard, put so much emphasis on it, thinking its the Holy Grail. Go read some SoR comments in the Tier 1 thread now. I cant say im surprised to see them say they hate it. I could care less about the score and care more about being camped to the point I cant leave the spawn with 10 people only to see 50-60 Yaks starving for a kill. Keep the points, get me some good fights. Less emphasis or care on points, more on good fights. Most of the people benefitting from WvW buffs dont do any WvW, so other then chest thumping to someone you outnumber, its really a wash.
Enough with the night capping worry posts. Let them do it. Say CD comes back and wins, if you know it was mostly from night capping, who cares? IF YB wins from having superior numbers, who cares? Fight to fight, for no other reason.
Great comment, thanks.
From the way Anet set up the tiers, it would appear that Tier 1 is the ultimate goal to “win” WvW. But it really isn’t. The tiers are merely a matchmaking system to try and achieve quality WvW for all servers.
I’ll be happy if you guys beat us this week. I hate being right, but I think my server needs to get off her high horse and face facts, that we need more practice and training, and we’re not really prepared for higher tiers yet.
To my fellow CD players, we don’t need to justify anything.
Let’s just enjoy the remaining week. And fight our hardest when we can.
There’s a big gap between Tier 3 and Tier 4, so whoever moves up is going to probably get blasted.
Still, that won’t stop us from fighting the good fight…
Is it just me or is it when YB has the EB puzzle they attack everyone? I know mid day (in NA) CD/IA have an informal truce but I like it when all three servers have an area where they don’t attack each other even though they can.
I personally don’t care for JP’s and think they distract from WvW. But I remember when we played CD a while back, you guys had the reputation for camping JP’s based on what I read in the forum.
CD was a huge “Zerg” server, we fought you guys as you went up the tiers, unless you transferred when they were already in tier 3… YB loses matches due to no oceanic presence. the argument that “this Is an international game!” Is silly cause were playing on North American servers, for North Americans. Best match weve had is old maguuma, EB and us becuse GASP we were all majority NA players on our NA server. Very close fight all the way through the week.
it’s technically arena nets fault for not having oceanic servers, but if you can’t comprehend why people get mad at “night capping” then you’re delusional and obviously on a server with alot more people on while others sleep.
And no, majority of us don’t care, but to watch people act like we’re just whining fail to see both sides of the situation.
The thing is, even if there were Oceanic servers in addition to NA and Euro, coverage is still a primary factor because servers are running 24/7. That’s Anet’s design.
To make the servers truly regional, they would have to add some mechanic to make taking stuff difficult or impossible during a server’s “off hours”, which would only punish those who play during those times.
The tiered system isn’t ideal, but it’s how we get matched up with similar servers. Especially now that free transfers are over.
Baladir, I agree. It doesn’t offend me in the slightest. In fact, I take it as a compliment that some players apparently feel the need to “celebrate” a 4v1 victory.
My response was directed to those who apparently take such silliness as a personal insult, and then generalize an entire server because of it.
Well, YB has been in SBI’s position of being overwhelmed by numbers quite a bit recently. Feelings of frustration and hopelessness can definitely distort one’s view of the opposition. Although it’s just a game, GW2’s WvW can be highly competitive and no one enjoys being steamrolled.
As far as idiots go, I’ve had my share of being teabagged, danced upon, laughed at, etc, by Mag, DB, and Kain after being caught solo or in a small group roaming around. Often times while being spawn camped. Of course, these folks generally had less skill which makes me think they were probably fairweathers or bandwagoners, rather than dedicated WvW’ers.
Such behavior is, of course, the exception not the rule for those servers. And ours, or any other. I will say that I haven’t yet had any negative experiences from CD or SBI.
As an aside, it’s nice that our thread is finally picking up a bit. lol
There’s very little correlation between WvW population and the overall population of a server. YB (and I’m sure CD) has a lot of PVE’ers. That said, there’s no question YB and CD outnumber SBI in WvW.
It’s unfortunate that SBI has had to endure massive WvW population losses. Probably more than any other server, since not long ago you were winning Tier 1. Oh well, who wants all those zergs and queues anyways? I sure don’t.
I think SBI will soon arrive at a good place in WvW, probably next week…
Having very little Oceanics/Asian presence does suck but it is out of our control. It’s certainly not a problem unique to YB. Similar to other servers not having enough NA numbers, it is what it is. Just have to play the hand we’re dealt.
So let’s enjoy our big lead from the weekend, play our strengths and let the chips fall where they may. CD and SBI are honorable opponents and it has been enjoyable fighting them.
Looking forward to next week, CD overtaking the lead isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather face our old friends Mag/Ebay than FA/DB with their vast Oceanic/Asian armies.
Kaineng desperately needs a beatdown next week. They’ve been whipping up on the smaller servers for far too long.
Mags and DB will be the first servers they meet who can match their numbers. I suspect they’ll get hammered on opening night (YB was roughly even with them until they all went to bed). Kaineng will not have their customary Oceanic/Asian domination this time (NNK et al). Finally.
If you beat our asura mesmer I will be very impressed
If that’s the same asura mesmer I fought, yeah he’s tough. That many clones with invis on a relatively short cooldown is tough to counter. Thanks again guys for the fun fights. Too bad it was just me on the other side. I hope you can get more out there tonight.
Give it a try. It doesn’t matter how experienced you are, cuz no one is keeping score. It’s just for fun and you do learn a lot and meet new ppl.
-Sakae
So i’m pretty sure Magumma is going to hit a wall. kaineng is a different story.
I’d wager that Mags is going to smash that wall. They have the same strong core of WvW guilds as before, now backed up by impressive zergs on all maps. Just my opinion, but it seems they have attracted some talented WvW guilds from other servers. FA should have the edge during Oceanic/Asian time. You’d better rack up as many points as you can.
About the only thing I know about Kaineng is that next week likely won’t be very much fun at all for us. I’m guessing they’ll be like DB on steroids.
Duels at SS camp on Mag BL. Would love to see more people from IoJ and Yak’s!
I would, if I wasn’t stuck at work!
FWIW, as a YBer from the start, I admire the core group on Maguuma (despite the forum bravado of a few). Much better organization and tactics than I’ve see from any other server, with Ebay a distant 2nd.
I know this doesn’t help your anti-expansion efforts lol. But hey, starting this post was ill advised and has only brought attention to you.
Hopefully the bloat doesn’t water down your successes too much. I’ll be pulling for you guys as you move up the tiers…
I hate to tell you i told you so, but
told you soooooooo, you guys probably rival Kain. Looks like T1-2 Queues inc.
Enjoy non-stop zergs, golems, queues, and PuGs.
Troll Thread backfired into actual worst nightmare. Sometimes there is justice on the internet…
T2 queues? Last night I hopped in wvw to check stuff out and we had a Q on EB… and the others were instant. =D
Pretty sure TC and SBI can say the same and we have more people than them.
Once matches are decided, fewer people log into WvW. That’s just a fact. A better indicator is the first couple of nights after reset, and later if it is a balanced matchup.
I doubt Mag and Kaineng are going to lose many people now, since they’re carrying some serious mojo into the paid transfer deadline. In fact, they’ll probably get even more. Success attracts bandwagoners like flies on kitten.
So get ready for them. IMHO, only SoR and FA can possibly rival them in tiers 2 and 3. We’ll see. Will be interesting to watch it all unfold.
Who gives a crap about tier 1 lol. Zzzz.
(edited by Boreal.9826)
Yaks doesn’t know what’s going on.
Yaks knows what’s going on. We simply don’t have the coverage to compete with the new Maguuma. So, we’re currently logging on alts for the karma train, or simply foregoing WvW altogether.
Next week will likely be the same for us, since Kain and DB both will likely go after our targets before going after each other.
Good news is we have a solid core of WvW’ers and fewer bandwagoners. That’s good for the long term.
Server populations are rapidly fluctuating, especially as the deadline approaches.
Ehmry, this isn’t the same Maguuma you all know. But who knows what it will be next week?
Assuming populations hold, I think the clash between the Mag and Kain juggernauts will be epic. Pity whoever is caught in the middle (although the new FA may be on par).
My prediction, having not seen Kaineng first hand yet: Kaineng will dominate during oceanic & asian hours, with Maguuma holding the edge during all other hours. Kaineng eeks out the win thanks to a larger PPT differential during their sweet spot.
Fight club below south camp on Yaks BL. Lots of Mag and only the one IoJ ranger for a while now.
This is always how duels go. Tons of people from Maguuma and very few from the other servers. Gets boring.
There were several of us Yaks dueling OG and a few other Mags a couple of hours ago. We were on IoJ BL. Your guildies seem pretty cool.
When the WvW is a dud, try dueling is an alternative. You get to meet some new ppl, talk builds and tactics, and hone your skills…
To people looking for an explanation to Yak’s poor opener: There was overconfidence, followed by a lot of new militia who are still finding their feet. The large Militia numbers were because of a recent PvE engagement drive, and possibly individual transfers of people looking for community first.
So the reason YB is losing is because YB beat themselves? I think the real reason Yaks had a poor opener is because Yaks’ lack of skill in the face of even numbers has been completely and utterly exposed.
If that explanation appeals more to your ego, go with that. Its quite revisionist considering Yak’s earlier matches against Maguuma and other higher tiered servers, but your demonstrated attitude leads me to believe that that won’t deter you.
Which matches? The ones where you rolled us because your population was much higher? Maybe the one where we won because your server didn’t understand how to cope against Dragonbrand?
As someone who has been on YB for quite some time, I dont remember ANY of our commanders lately, there is no set WVW guilds that I ever see in decent numbers besides (hell) and (CL). We dont even put up trebs on our garrison mountain tops to treb dreaming bay or hills anymore. My only explanation is that we lost alot of our wvwvw focused people. Sadly I feel like we are a mindless zerg server, minus the large zerg numbers of some other servers.
YB feels very different then it did a couple weeks ago. Oh well
We’re in a rough patch the next couple of weeks to be sure, due to being hopelessly outnumbered. Partly due to Mag’s transfers, but also due to our own more fairweather and PvE players not joining WvW. I believe things will improve after next week (assuming Kaineng moves on).
After talking with people who transferred back from t1 or t2 servers, it sounds like those are nothing but massive zergs at all hours and long queues. No thanks.
I’m very happy to be on YB.
Hey guys on Mag who love to spam /sit after I down a couple of you during my 1 vs your 5. I take it as a compliment that you feel the urge to do that.
Props to the Ele from OG that I just dueled with for like 5 minutes. I’m the hooded ranger from YB. That was a lot of fun.
Too bad yours or my (or both) server mates came to break it up (plus like 5 coyotes lol). Hope to see you out there again…
Ya it was a good fight.
You’re Sakae right?
Yeah, was that you? We’ll have to do a fight night sometime… good times.
I’m still thankful for the SM guys coming over.
SM is an great guild. You guys are fortunate to have them.
Props to the Ele from OG that I just dueled with for like 5 minutes. I’m the hooded ranger from YB. That was a lot of fun.
Too bad yours or my (or both) server mates came to break it up (plus like 5 coyotes lol). Hope to see you out there again…
Two weeks away and I forgot how much I hated Yak’s Bend. The numbers might not be there anymore, but the mentality hasn’t changed a bit. Still the most unpleasant zerg server I’ve ever had the misfortune of being matched against.
Hey, thanks for generalizing our entire server. I do like to solo roam. Either looking for random 1v1 action, or on my way to an objective.
This time, I’m rarely finding any Mags by themselves. When I do and engage, I end up getting run over by his buddies or some random zerg. So yeah.
Oh yeah, the flipside is that the only queue I experienced tonight was 5 min for YBBL not long after reset. Instant WvW FTW.
Because, despite the best efforts of some, we now have ten thousand people on Maguuma, unfortunately.
From my YB perspective, it sure looks that way. The hordes I’m seeing running around are reminding me of the Dragonbrand zergs of last week. Except with much better players on average than DB. Part of the reason I like and respect you guys.
Just roaming around tonight I had some fun fights against SM and OG. Top notch skill, as always.
I really feel for IoJ. I’ve seen like maybe 5 of them, after spending the majority of the night on their BL. It’s obvious they have been decimated by transfers. Big respect to the few hardy souls remaining.
We’ll do our best to persevere this week and give you guys a fight.
I’m sensing some reverse psychology here.
From this YB player’s point of view, I’ve noticed that NA DB has upped their game this week. A combination of xfers and just plain playing better. Of course, YB and EB focusing each other doesn’t hurt.
Assuming the situation holds, you’ll be in T3 next week. It will be interesting to see how you match up with CD in particular, due to their similar coverage. I think you might just hold your own. Should be a fun week for you all, regardless.
I don’t want to sound like mean and all but I’ve been targeting Yaks for one main reason, and that is to see Ebay and Yaks fight for second.
Dropping tiers and having to face Kaineng, who sorta looks likes DB, won’t exactly be fun. Whoever drops will probably get bogged down there for several weeks.
It’s a race for 2nd at this point. Looks like it may go down to the wire…
Man, and I thought BP was bad for camping puzzles. There’s a big group of Yaks dedicated to camping the EB JP daily. I’ll be happy when we move out of this tier, hopefully in the right direction.
~ Kovu
You’ll probably see this in all tiers, unfortunately.
Alas, dead weight for any server when there’s a competitive match going on, and a queue to get in.
I’ve been to the EB JP exactly one time, and have never seen the BL one… lol.
Not sure if Kaineng will make it up this far. We will see what happens when they matchup vs Maguma.
Doesn’t Kaineng also have a strong Oceanic/Asian population? I wouldn’t be surprised if they get significant transfers on the way up. People are attracted to up and coming servers.
Their matchup with Mag (or EB/YB) will indeed be interesting and telling.
You can 1v1 pretty well but you don’t have any good escape skill so you can’t roam solo like D/D ele or rogue.
Not entirely true.
If you are Norn there is this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Become_the_Snow_Leopard
It has saved my kitten many times, roaming into unfavorable situations or even full zergs, and I forego other (really good) elites to have it available. Since small-scale and roaming is usually my game in WvW.
Glass cannon ranger is good for rolling with zergs, and (my preference) Beastmaster bunker is good for everything else. IMHO.
I really enjoy my Ranger in WvW!
Is [Krew] new on DB? I’m seeing them everywhere and don’t remember them from last time. Just wondering.
This has been a very fun, if challenging, week of WvW. Thanks for the fights DB and Ebay.
Guess what? DB and EB use this invuln spot, too. And Mag, FA, TC, etc. Yeah it sucks, but it seems to be part of the game until Anet fixes it.
To the ranger in Badger Spirits I just fought a few times: We didn’t get to finish any of the fights, but I still had more fun fighting you than any other ranger, so thank you for that anyway.
Yeah, that was fun. Thanks for the fights!
-Sakae, 80 Ranger of Yak’s Bend
Ranger is completely viable as commander. My server has some great ones. Yes, you do want a survivable build so you can be at the front leading.
An excellent choice for Rangers is 0/0/30/10/30, stacking tough, vit (I prefer PVT gear, but a mix of clerics/knights/carrion is good too), and healing/regen runes (I use Dwayna). Very “bunker” worthy, along with decent DPS and a supercharged pet from 30 points in BM.
I’ve been running the build for a couple months never ever desiring to switch to anything else. In my opinion, it’s that good.
For details, check out:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Ranger-PvP-Bunker-Build/first#post976960
Before investing in gear you can always sample the build in sPvP. Have fun!
Edit: Oh and just to keep the drama going, every good fight I’ve had so far in the past week and some has been with EB. Still waiting for someone from Yak’s to actually put up a fight. I watched a sword ranger duel a bit and he did pretty well, but it’s hard to excel with a ranger.
/wave
I think that was me messing around with you guys late one night in YBBL. Good times.
BTW, Sword + Dagger + Beastmastery spec (0/0/30/10/30) + mostly PVT gear = a strong, durable Ranger with a powerful pet
Perhaps not as strong as Thief or D/D Ele, but far from weak.
YB has its share of skilled players. I’m not sure why you haven’t run into them.
For me, the highlight of WvW is roaming with a small, organized group. You can accomplish quite a bit sometimes. I was in a 5-man last night capping several camps and a tower. Great fun, with plenty of small-scale action.
-Sakae, 80 Ranger of Yak’s Bend
As a Yak’s player, I’m finding this week’s WvW very refreshing. All three servers seem well matched in terms of population, coverage and overall tactical play. Speaking for myself, I’m not really missing the massive zergs of T3.
The random 1v1’s have been much fun, too. Hats off to the great Ebay and Mag players I keep running into.
-Sakae, 80 Ranger of Yak’s Bend
Hey, you ruined my perfect snowflake!
J/k. I’ve been running this exact build for over a month now. It isn’t really new, just a bit under the radar. It is a variation of builds listed here:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/72411-i-have-an-interesting-new-build-ive-started-running/
Yes, it is incredibly strong in 1v1 and small scale encounters. I would call it borderline OP in the hands of a good player. Naturally, you trade offense for bunker stats and survivability, but improved pets help mitigate this loss in damage.
Some key points:
— I stack PVT on my armor and currently sit at around 20k health and 3k armor for both WvW and sPvP. Combined with decent protection up-time from frequent dodging, you will be able to take quite a beating. (A reviving machine in keep/tower AoE)
— Empathic Bond handles conditions, a VERY strong trait. Perhaps OP. I often combine it with Signet of Renewal for even more condition removal.
— Evade, evade, evade. Sword plus Dagger is just incredible with all the evades. You can go toe to toe with just about anyone. I like to imagine my opponents raging when they blow key abilities.
A not so small side benefit is increased pet DPS due to stationary opponents (unless they’re smart).
— Regen! The massive health regen synergizes beautifully with the overall tankiness of this build. From passives Natural Healing and Signet of the Wild, to runes (I choose Dwayna) and trait procs, you end up with a TON of it ticking away from many small and not so small sources.
— DPS. Along with being a great defensive weapon, the Sword is very fast for decent damage. The self root really isn’t bad once you get used to it. I leave auto-attack on since DPS is lost when turned off. I swapped to Axe+WH/Torch for a long time, but recently switched back to Shortbow which is better overall in most encounters (my opinion). It throws ’em off to alternate kiting with getting in their face.
— Healing. I run with Healing Spring (occasionally Troll Unguent in sPvP). It’s just phenomenal in so many ways, and it helps allies as well. With it, I keep proc’d regen up nearly 100% of the time. Spike heals from Monarch’s Leap finishers are an added bonus.
— Pets. I run dual canines, or sometimes birds for a change. Spiders in zerg WvW encounters. Canines are just a sweet combination of CC, damage and survivability.
This build isn’t for everyone. Some just can’t handle the loss in offense. But if you can get past that, you will be a force in 1v1. Especially if you have good evasion skills coming from glass cannon builds.
It’s great fun to roam around WvW zones. Would be gankers (looking at you, thieves) lick their chops thinking here’s another free kill ranger. Too bad for them…
Natural Healing – Pet 125/Player 142 (Healing doesn’t effect this, However Compassion Training Does, it’ll kick in and increase the player heal to 181)
Are you sure about this? I just tested it and Compassion Training had no effect on player regen from Natural Healing.
Let’s just enjoy the remaining week. And fight our hardest when we can.
