I understand you need to keep people from being bored and leaving what with the lack of content, since less active players = less gem purchases but you are going about it the wrong way.

People aren’t dumb enough to buy karma boosters and the like with the way you’re punished for playing the game.

I haven’t run this for a week but I didn’t have much difficulty when I did, mostly due to my group composition. 2 Engineers with Grenadier, 2 Warriors and a Thief.

Nade and 100b spam on the burrows and for the scepter pieces we would pull the mobs to the leash point while the thief would slip in and grab the pieces. I believe she died getting the last one due to uimpatience.

I love how in every single matchup posted, the #1 servers outscored the #2 and #3 servers combined.

And is this because:
1) the matchup was uneven to begin with, or
2) once one team got a decent lead the other 2 gave up

I know that the IoJvsFAvsSoS match was close until mid-week and then went lopsided. If what I’ve heard is true though its more because a number of US guilds transferred to IoJ (which has a strong Oceanic base).

As an SoS player, once IoJ got ahead by 50k points I gave up and only entered WvW for jumping puzzles. SoS has pretty much nothing going for it server wise.

To anwser the question in the title, the purpose of the DR system is two fold
1)Prevent players from aquiring too much in game wealth (Effects the economy and more improtantly for anet, Gem Sales.)
2) Prevent players from playing through the content they enjoy at a pace faster than the developers can churn out new content (The longer you are playing the game, the more likely you are to buy Gems.)

DR is Anti-Farming, not “Anti-Botting”, it’s here to protect anets/ncsofts bottom line. Think of it like the “Stress Points” in a certain Nexon game. The difference being over there the mechanic is clear and in your face, here all it’s functions are shrouded in mystery aside from “Go kill other mobs(that don’t drop as much loot/gold)/play an alt”

Thank you this is excellent info. We would like dungeons to be legit hard enough to take closer to 45 mins but if we can’t accomplish that goal we can look at the speed clear times from non exploiters and easily adjust the system. The goal is that hardcore farmers don’t even see this thing but only exploiters. We will keep working towards that goal.

Incredibly unlikely. They didn’t restore peoples hacked account gold/items, they don’t restore lost tournament rewards and I’m confident people that completed the story and got the “bugged” exotic bags won’t be compensated either.

Their relationship with gamers was always like that. Something like : " Eat this! Now like or choke to death! Oh, you found some fun in MY GAME? How dare you! Thats not the way i designed to be played!"

What fun did they remove?

The maps with events only now wont drop a single item, the dungeons are insane hard to PUG (many paths) and you wont have any reward unless you fully end it, the queue time for wvw is ridiculous…need more?

They are really not that hard. Try harder.

I agree about the queue times, but for my server it’s fine.

Why would we try harder? For a cosmetic? Is that what we would need to die over and over again for?

At LOTRO i could see a dungeon for 12 man group where if you dont dodge the main atack from the boss you would be one shotted. And thats ok, cause the rewards were both cool looking and stronger than everything else.

GW2 concept of end game is, well, terrible.

Because they are really not that hard.

That’s right, nothing in GW2 PvE is genuinely difficult theres only artificial difficulty.

9/10 encounters with “Indignant”/PermaStability mobs can be surmized as follows
Player 1 Uses Immob Skill
Player 2 Uses Cripple
Player 3 Uses Chill
Player 2 Uses Immob
Player 3 Uses Cripple

perfectly timed CC on and on while we all kite and deliver DPS and generally chat over Mumble about the trading post. (I feel legitimate pity for people attempting to do the ridiculous difficulty in a pug group)

OCCASIONALLY, that rare 1/10th of a time it’s required that we apply another condition, like blind on trash adds, or Poison to prevent ridiculous recovery, but those bosses are far and away.

It is neither fun nor rewarding – especially with the kMMO style DR- no tactical thought is needed 90% of the time. Simply pull and leash mobs, run past trash -especially with this new system of only rewarding at the end- but since they helped me get a set of armor I’m in for the ride while they get theirs.

It wasn’t so much being skilled at the game that was letting people clear CoF Path 2 in 20 minutes. It was exploiting.

So because there is an exploitable loophole which they can’t seem to figure out how to “patch”… they lambaste you for being efficient? Right now, only the last chest drops tokens… I see no reason for them to keep this awful system of diminished returns on “speed clears”.

It’s an abominable system and it punishes good players which is short-sighted and pointless.

It reminds me of a certain stress system from a certain Korean MMO. In other words artificially lengthening the game by reducing rewards, punishing you for going to fast, and adding trash mobs that are tougher than bosses.

Shouldn’t this system only work if you are doing the same path over and over again?
Whats the point in doing a new path, if you still get less rewards?

Pretty sure the patch notes stated exactly that. No idea what is up with Robert’s response.

Perhaps he’s exasperated from getting assaulted on all sides over the current makeup of dungeons.

I’m sorry, that does not excuse the lack of QA. The game HAS been in devolpment for years. Before you release a patch you hand it off to QA or load it up on a test realm so that very ovbious bugs and exploits are caught.

Anet is a big company and they already have our money, they don’t need a defence force they have mods.

Dungeons are still filled with trash mobs that serve no purpose but to slow you down. In all honesty it seems like a dev’s petty revenge against people that speed cleared before. Do mobs on STORY MODE really need to chainfear/knockdown. I feel bad for classes that don’t have stability on demand.

I want to give them some slack but the very ovbious and glaring errors that appear each time a patch is pushed out (to stop exploiters/people doing speed runs not to enhance the experience for anyone else involved), it’s clear that a minimal amount of QA was done if any at all.

How did they not test the DR code on the new token setup?
How did they not check to see that new tokens stack with old ones/convert old tokens to new ones?

These are elementrary things that should have been adressed or caught early on in this patches QA.

I’m agree with OP here, the current system supports terrible play. It’s almost as if playing tactfully at all is a punishment. You get barely any points for staying and defending. The current system of spvp I feel is zerg or nothing. Now I can understand a bit why you don’t reward for too much defense due to camping the point to rack up points and not do anything at all. But something should at least be done to reward a bit of tactful play instead of capture, kill, revive.

I will say that I’ve gotten to a point where I almost don’t care for the points I just play tactfully yet it doesn’t stop my team from doing stupid things. I will stay and defend a point and capture points that are obviously unguarded. Stop and watch your team next time you play spvp watch how many people will leave the first point after it’s taken and go for the grey one. I immediately go for their point because 9/10 it’s unguarded.

I used to play smart. Defending, keeping people off points, using conditions. I was getting 120-170 glory a round. Today I gave in and switched to a DD build and travelled with the 4-7 man zerg that is the spvp team. My glory was 230-300.

I won’t be changing my style unless it comes to tournaments or the scoring system is changed to reward decent play.

Orichalcum Nodes

Nodes I mined for Orichalcum in Orr and Frostgorge on Aug 31 have yet to respawn. I’m assuming they’re not set to a week long cool down as they’re still sold on the trading post.
