Hey, thanks everyone! We spent a lot of time tweaking the balance on this, and I’m glad that so many people appreciate our efforts. We REALLY like hearing that people are making memories and cheering each other on. Those are the kinds of experiences we make MMOs for.

I’m not surprised that the Wurm is not liked by as many people. We were making that specifically for the hard core groups that are all about the organization and figuring out the strategy and tactics. It’s really cool watching the community grapple with this puzzle and innovate as they get closer and closer to finding a winning strategy.

And that is what happens at WSR too. People cheering, all the (cheerful) yelling in TS, map chat spammed with “gl lane 2” – “we are the best lane ever!” – “alright guys, time to show what we got!” – is just awesome.

On a sidenote….

Josh! JOSH! JOSH!!!! Do you have an estimate on when the Syou Aknow Bwhat is returning? I’m all excited about it’s next episode

The timer + the overflows really kill this event I agree.

That is the main reason why people rush to big servers like Desolation or Blackgate (brand only) which creates even more problems for those servers that suddenly have bazillion overflows and people on their home server can’t get into the main.
Plus waiting for X hours because you might wind up in the wrong overflow is just simply not fun gamepay.

This thread does have some points, but come on!

People guest over to the biggest servers on the first day of the patch and find themselves in overflows? What a shock!

Good feedback, but I disagree with the part about an NPC telling yu what to do before the fight.

That doesn’t make sense, no game does that. It doesn’t make sense from the ‘story’ point of view wither, I mean, how could people know what will happen?

It would ruin the discovery of the mechanisms for yourself – NPC shouting during the event (like at teq) – now that is OK.

That’s a bit extreme. I mean, having to log off the game, re-enter PvE, just to re-enter WvW again every time you die…

It is not as simple as 10 players = 100.000 HP, 20 players = 200.000.

…you do realize, that i am talking about it scaling down right? at 100+ players it would remain exactly the same it is now, so i don’t get where you get those “problems”.

Though i do think that it should be eased up a little even at those max zerg ranges.

And for the record, scaling the boss doesn’t change anything for the large fights. They’ll still be exactly the same as they are now. It’ll only change the low population fights.

I do realize. And I’m sorry to say, but Teq shouldn’t be solod, killed by a party of 5, nor a guild of 20 for that matter. There is a baseline for this and that’s around 70-80 people.

What most people doesn’t seem to realize, is that the diffuculty in the Tequatl fight doesn’t come from the mechanics, or damages, or whatnot – it comes from the following question:

It is not as simple as 10 players = 100.000 HP, 20 players = 200.000. You gotta take into account (eg.):

- more players more boons
- more cleanses
- AoE cap
- more people, more AFK
- food buffs (some use it, some not)
- other consumables
- more randomness in overall
- lag causing low end (high graphics) comps to freeze – thus not comtributing
- more people not reviving
- more people less effectivness overall (it’ basic economics that if 1 guy is = 100% effectiveness, then 10 guys = less then 1000% – probably around 8500%)

Also, most of the things you listed do exist at this very moment. Like mob spawns, mob HPs, finger HPs, bone wall HP, and I think Teq is weaker overall with less people.

- Added a new mastery idea (Scout mastery) – see the opening post
- Added the Optinal tag to the dollie lv6

- As for the engineerig/thieving mastery – it has it’s built in counter – and I think it would be cool, if commanders would have to give orders to (trusted) people to place siege, and thereafter dismantle them.

Edit: Wait what? Opening post didn’t get edited, rewriting Scout mastery. – Done.

Just to awnser the last few paragraphs of your post (as I have probably adressed all of before):

The problem with scaling it to 30-35 plyers would just result in making it supereasy for 80-90 players (Karka Queen is a good example). I personally cannot imagine the ‘right’ scaling for this (and it does scale a bit with player numbers actually). It is simply because humans are playing – the more people there are, the less effort they put into it (just watch how many go AFK on an Inquest Golem Mark II fight).

Also, and this might hurt a bit but: there actually ARE people who lack the skill to do this fight. Yep. Remember when people were complaining about Liadri, that it’s too hard etc.? That was clearly an L2P issue. It’s kind of the same with Teq – there are some people who refuse to do the tactics (eg.: I won’t waste my precious 1s on food/elemental powders/respawn – or go with the commander, heck no one is telling me what to do!).

So why discuss this now? It has been discussed in all other topics, and this living story isn’t even out yet. There is absolutely no point to this copypaste thread.

The point is simply to give ideas and structure to benefit future living story structure. Maybe this thread has been done a thousand times, but I still have advice I want to give, things I want to say, want heard, so I will say them. Contribute to the thread, or back, discrediting it is pointless.

So why not use one of the bazillion threads currently discussing this? This topic is for the new Living story called: Origins of madness – which you know nothing about plotwise.

It’s just a waste of breath, and that’s just what I’m doing too, so you are right, it’s pointless, you are just gonna carry on anyway.

Ugh, the constant beating around the bush is tiresome.

Again, the fight itself isn’t the problem. Nobody is argueing that Teq can’t be beaten. The fight itself is just poorly implemented and has no real place in the spirit of the game.

No boss encounter, especially a world boss, should require you to join certain guilds and in fact bypass regular gameplay by deliberately setting up overflows for the select few who get invited in. And no, the chance of beating it by going about this the “normal” way for world bosses is abyssmally low.

But I’m just repeating the same old same. I would like to enjoy the new bosses, but the way things are looking right now I’m not getting my hopes up.

I like a challenge, but for that I first have to actually be able to access it.

The problem with this, is that you are assuming it can ONLY be killed by guilds assigned to do so.

Like many in this thread said before, servers are killing him on their own – whitout the help of any special guilds.

And I’ll repeat: I’m from Whiteside Ridge, we are next to last in WvW with Vabbi – so you can imagine our numbers and organization. If we could do it, I’m 100% sure everyone else can as well.

Also, we are not killing it on an overflow.

And this is my assumption: the servers who are unable to beat it on their own, are just lazy.

you must mean verson 1 verson 2 it took 1 week servers where fighting to be the first till Black gate got first kill. Congrats. In most servers zergs wouldn’t listen to commanders or get fire elemental powders which is why they usually fail.

No I mean this version, it took less then day for first kill, yes lot’s of people had problem first few days, but like I said, now Tequatl can be killed without armor or without using cannons, it is just to easy.

Could you provide videos for this? I really can’t see how people can do this unless Tequatl bugs or something. As far as I know, best time remaining for Teq is around 7:30 mins.

Ps.: If memory serves right, Blackgate took it down after a week or so first.

According to rumors, aNet plans on fixing these for the next patch. For now, I suggest you guest to other server’s who do not have broken temples. Ie; ioJ’s Mel temple is not broken. Good luck.

After reset? What do you mean?

We have Tequatl 2 times a week. The usual ‘waiting’ time – let’s just call it preparations and sorting out groups, laying down tactics for new guys – is 30 mins.

If we manage to defeatet it, it’s guaranteed 3 g 20 s, guaranteed 3 rares, guaranteed 5 champ loot bags. On top of those you have a decent chance for some specific exos, and a small chance for the minis ascended stuff. That ain’t shabby.

But like I hinted above, this is not for the rewards, this is for the thrill of the kill.

I mean, I could just run the Queensdale champ train all day long…

You obviously shouldn’t.

All the people on my server, all those who show up regularly for such a thing (and those people are 100+ for each attempt) actually find it fun and rewarding to defeat the hardest large scale PvE content in the game currently.

You know, actually achieving stuff.

Ps.: I’m hoping for difficulty between Tequatl and Karka Queen honestly.

Recently the only temple that has been broken/bugged/stuck/hosed on Tarnished Coast is the Temple of Melandru and it is just as described above.

This seems to a regular occurrence across the game that they fix it and over time it breaks. It’s like slow torture whereas you know that one, or more, of the temple chain events will certainly break and there is nothing they (Anet) seem to be able to do to keep it from derailing. Otherwise it’s a pretty dammed good game.

Yep, on reset I’m probably gonna do a quick Orr temple run, before everything breaks in 1-2 days…

ALso note: these are just the temple events mentioned, lots of other smaller events broken, but these are the main that need fixing. At most servers Orr is (ironically) dead because of these bugs (except for bots of course – they don’t mind).

We began training back in October, and after 4 months of failing hard, we finally killed him for the first time last Thursday. It should become a routine in the next few weeks.

This has been complained numerous times before. I have reported these bugs in-game from time to time too. Let’s get started:

1. Temple of Melandru event chain

Problem:
The event breaks after certain happenings, sadly I have no idea what.

Cause and description:
The event description reads something like: The Pact is preparing for the attack on the Temple of Melandru – There is no such thing in the event chain (when running normally). The problem is, that it enters this non-existing stage of the event.

No Izzmek, no anything. I think it’s borken currently on ALL sevrers for 400 hours+.

Bonus bug#1: The Risen priest of Melandru doesn’t transform you after a few tries, just skips the transform phase.

Bonus bug#2: When you pick up the Diving goggles while transformed, you get your original skills back.

2. Gates of Arah event chain

Problem:
The event doesn’t start, it’s stuck in the escort Warmaster Chan phase.

Cause and description:
Not sure what’s causing it. Warmaster Chan may or may not spawn. Even if he spawns, he just stands there doing nothing at all – not starting the escort event. Also bugged on ALL servers. Usually breaks after 1-2 days of the update.

3. Temple of Dwayna event chain

Problem:
The event description reads “The seal on the olter must be broken!” – but there is no one to break it.

Cause and description:
After you escort the scholar to the altar you get to fight the Risen priestess of Dwayna. The scholar then may get aggrod, but he can’t die UNTIL the priestess is alive. But after the fight, remaining conditions and risen may kill him – and he can’t be ressed, so there is no NPC left to continue with the event.

Solution:
Add a determined buff to the scholar, OR let him die and make him revivable OR let him die and then you fail the event.

4. Temple of Lyssa event chain

Problem: The cannon event (pr requisite to the main event) cannot be triggered, as all NPCs are alive, but they are doing nothing.

Cause and description:
The NPCs are not repairing the cannon at all, just standing there. You cannot interact with them, and enemy mobs do not attack them.

I think this is caused by the unfortunate timing of the Pristess of Lyssa kill.
If you played these events, you know that the events tend to pop-up, and you have to do them in order to continue with the may event (well, at least you had to, if that wasn’t bugged too). If the cannon event pops up, and you fail it, there is a time (like half a minute) until the new event pops up in it’s place. I think if you defeat the priestess within that half minute, the bug occurs.

Bonus bug#1: Sometimes failing the defense events doesn’t do anything – the main event continues normally.

5. Risen priest of Balthazar event chain

Problem: Escort to Rally waypoint doesn’t start.

Cause and description:
Even tough it should start (other routes have not arrived) it does not. You can wait for hours and it won’t start. The other day we did Northern invasion 4 times in a row (and failing the last escort after) while central and southern started 0 times.

Would you guys at Anet please get these fixed? These are known bugs since launch and it seems nothing has been done about them.

Ps.: Could anyone do anything about the 20+ bots/Orr map too? (and don’t tell me to report them, I’ve been reporting one for over 6 months)

Yes. Don’t stand still for the 2 seconds it takes to animate the shot. Its not like you could have dodged, hid, blocked, reflected, etc. or even moved out of range in that time….

- Deleted the base idea for lv1 Engineering/thieving mastery

@kymaera: in the lv6 dolly mastery, the a circle (like a capture circle only bigger) would travel along the dollies usual path at normal dollie speed, if a player exits the circle, the dollie throws him off.

Fact #1: People who do not fight against other people are rewarded as much as those who do fight against other people, including in even numbers or even against the odds.

Fact #2: That is not fair large-scale PvP. It is at best an outdated, turn of the century, twisted idea of fair large-scale PvP.

Fact #3: Anet does not care. They haven’t since the game launched. They won’t because implementing something like that would involve caring about the game and investing less on the shinny PvE carrot-in-a-stick, while it would not bring back many WvWers who feel disrespected by Anet.

Off topic but:

You just gotta love these type of people.

I remember when back in the day I used to play TF2 (Team Fortress 2). We had a dozen people like this in our community. Those who ‘quit’, but still visited the forums for YEARS after they have ‘quit’ advising everyone else to do so, not forgetting to mention ‘this game sucks’ and also going ‘TF2 is dead n00bz’.

I’m wondering, why do you even care? You quit didn’t you? Go play forum warrior on forums of other games. Just let people who actually enjoy the game enjoy it, k?

Hey guys!

With siege getting buffed all the time, I think it’s only fair that the defense should also get buffs. Currently some of the upgrades right now are near useless, others are meh.

Here are some of my ideas for all things – feel free to yell at me, call me a n00bzor, and/or advise me to l2p.

But better yet: add your own ideas, or adress mine with what you think are good/bad about them. So here goes:

1. Sentry (yes, you read that right)

Name: Advanced training
Cost: 2,5 silver, 0 supplies

After a short period, say 5 mins, the sentry becomes an elite tier (silver) NPC. Everything he does is the some, except for an HP, armor, and damage buff. The damage buff should be enough to kill a Dolyak with no upgrades (caravan guard).

2. Supply camps

Hire Caravan guard, Hire additional guards and Increased supply deliveries are fine imo.

Strengthen guards is not… so:

Name: Promotion
Cost: 20 silver, 250 karma, 200 supps

Supervisor becomes an elite tier guy, the rest of the guards become veterans.

No more camp flipping with just the 2 of you. If you think this would be OP, just think of camps with mercs in them. Not too hard.

3. Towers, Keeps and Stonemist Castle

Here’s an idea for Reinforce doors:

Name: Reinforce doors
Cost: same as was before

Reinforce doors now adds spikes to the the door, granting retaliation to gates.

PvD that you blobster.

Also this could be a seperate upgrade branching out from Reinforce doors. You could buy gates separate upgrades like: Spiked gate (retaliation), Frost gate (chill on hit and to rams), Poison gate etc..

Name: Raise Guard level
Cost: same as was before

In the lord room 1 guy becomes elite tier, rest are veterans from now on. On the doors and walls 1-1 guys becomes an elite.

New branch for towers/keeps/SM:

Utility branch including 3 upgrades: 1 – Build defenses faster and cheaper, 2 – Siege decay buff, 3 – Fixed respawning normal Arrow carts

Name: Upgrade training
Cost: 12 silver, 400 supplies (for keeps – changes accordingly to towers and SM)

You build fixed (mortar, cannon, oil) siege and non fixed siege inside the keep 20% faster, and you have a chance to recover some (0-4) supply when useing all of yours when building inside a tower/keep/SM (on top of cashback from supply mastery)

Name: Built to last
Cost: 20 silver, 800 supplies (changes accordingly to towers and SM)

Siege now lasts an extra hour in you structures.

Name: Build Arrow carts
Cost: 25 silver, 1000 supplies (for keeps – changes accordingly to SM)

All gates now get a fixed arrow cart (or just inner) location – on these carts, you can actually zoom out, and see what you are shooting at.

4. Mercenary camps

4 brand new upgrades. Only 1 upgrade may be purchased at a time

Name: Additinal toops
Cost: 10 silver, 15 mins

Outgoing forces now have 3 extra members

Name: Replenish troops
Cost: 5 silver, 15 mins

The merc camp now replenishes it’s troops over time (the event meter goes up after a while)

Name: Train tacticians
Cost: 10 silver, 20 mins

After the camp has been taken, the some of the mercenaries (or an extra team maybe) head out to attack a nearby tower (thus tagging it)

Train commander
Cost: 10 silver, 20 mins

With all troops now goes a commander, granting minor buffs (health and damage) to nearby allies (NPCs and players alike).

- The suggestion doesn’t affect your playtime

- Currently the daytime players are punished – just compare the outcomes of a nightshift, and a dayshift

- No, but I expect the referee to do something – like even if I take the hits, at least it shouldn’t effect scoring

Still the same point. I think you’re making quite a few assumptions, especially with point 1 and 2. Being in the “night crew” I can tell you that some servers I’ve played against had very strong “night crews” as well, arguably better than the “morning” ones. Using your first point, I’d put out the same argument to you.

Point 2 is an assumption as stated above. I do agree that it’s not cool though. So get a better night shift team together. You’ve a challenge ahead of you. It’s WvW, a constant state of war. Asking that the opponent relent it’s charge instead of preparing your own defenses (As in night shift team. Not better walls.) is your responsibility.

Point 3 is right and wrong. Right in that it’s a suggestion. Wrong in that it doesn’t hurt us who play on your… “off shifts”. Given the scenario I gave earlier, in that I’ve faced worlds with unrelenting “night crews”, I should be rewarded just as much as you for my efforts. Rewarding me less is making a mockery of my efforts to retain, if not capture and further, my server’s points. You’re making a suggestion based on an assumption.

Final point: It’s not okay. However what you’re doing is like being a villager that complains about getting raided by vikings and being unable to defend it because you don’t train anyone to guard the gates when you’re asleep. Silly.

Also: No I wouldn’t. But there’s no break time in WvW. You go off shift, I may be going on shift to kill. I go down, maybe you’re coming back up. Break? What break?

PS: It’s not like I don’t like method 2. But it wouldn’t be fair for those who are asleep at that time and people who play on your off hours may have to work even harder than you do. Is that fair? Hardly. But again, “may” is the keyword here.

It is true that I have always played on my server, and haven’t tried others so I was assuming night shifts are the same there as others.

In my tier, and against the servers we are facing, the night time is like the worst of “luck” thing I ever seen. Like I posted somewhere above, you wake up, go to work, get back, and one server has randomly (I use this word because there is no pattern which one) gained 20 000 points + over the other (again, I’m an not crying – nightshift won us last week) – which makes my “daytime shift” seem totally useless. And that sucks.

There was a post somewhere above mentioning 3 WvW daily matches – each lasting 8 hours, with points getting gained for each mini-match won. Now that I think about it, that’s not actually a bad idea.

Every time you complain about night capping, an oceanic guild burns a garrison. Save the garrisons; stop complaining about a 24/7 game mode being played 24/7.

Just to clear things up, I’m not American, and I have no idea why these people are being so biased against Americans. How about keeping on the topic?

So, here is the first thing I recommend for everyone: Read the thread. Stop reading the title, and actually read the text. It is not hard really.

But since you won’t do that, once more here it is:

- Currently nightcappers (or morning cappers, whatever) are being rewarded far more or their efforts then they should be

- A match-ups outcome depending on 20 people / server is not cool

- The suggestion posted will not harm you in any way for 1 – it is a suggestion, 2- you still contribute (more) this way then anyone playing at daytime

- If you seriously think that running around with 5 golems against no defence what so ever is ok, then to you my thread is pointless

I mean. At a boxing match, would you punch the opponent during the breaks?

im also not a fan of this:

lv1 – On player kill you have a chance to gain 1 supply

getting a valuable ressource by just blobbing around seems wrong. especially when it’s already on rank1 of the line.

Dolyak mastery, like give it armor + more toughness when u escort 1, they die to easily

how about this:
lvl1: the player gets an aura that gives nearby dolyaks 10% damage reduction. can stack up to 80%
lvl2: dmg reduction raised to 15%. dolyak and guards have retaliation
lvl3: you can slap the dolyak to give it a short 50% MS-boost
lvl4: dmg reduction increased to 20% (still can stack up to 80% )
lvl5: if a dolyak reaches an allied structure while under the effect of the aura, it delivers 5 additional supply

i’d also prefer it if you have to make choices tho.

Yeah true, I was thinking of it as an anti zerg thing, but it’s actually pro-zerg now that you mentiont it. Maybe if it was higher tier + you could only take supps from guys if they had any.

Also, I know I’m gonna get flak for this, and from now on, everything I say cannot be trusted but!

What if Dollie mastery did the following too:

lv6 – You can now get on a Dolyak. While riding a Dolyak, it has 10% incresaed move speed that stacks with any other speedbuffs, and you gain new abilities.

(A 2000 range circle would pop up, that continues on the dollies path, that you cannot leave, or the dollie kicks you off and goes back to it’s regular path)

Dollie abilities:

1. Urgency – Speed buff – +25% move speed for 5 seconds
2. Ram – small AoE Blowout
3. Cry of the dolyak – The dolyak let’s out a cry of pain filling nearby allies heart with fury, 3 stacks of might, and aegis
4. Roar of the dolyak – Grants allied Stabilty, and Fear to the enemy
5. De-mount – Get off the dolyak

Would be cool + daily mount threads in Suggestion solved.

I do agree its annoying to lose stuff when you only have 15-25 ppl around at night…

It’s not only about losing stuff, it’s about contribution.

When I get online (you guessed it, primetime) I may or may not put up my tag. Nevertheless, we raid keeps, lose some of our own, wipe the enemy zerg, lose our own zerg, people laughing in voicechat, people blaming in voicechat – you know, all the fun stuff about WvW.

Then I log off after 1-6 hours of WvW. And what did this all add up to? +/- 2000-3000 points.

Then you go to bed, and try get some sleep. But before that, you can say a prayer to the Nightcap God in hopes it will favor your server this time.

You then wake up, go to work, get back, and see that your server has lost/won 20 000 – 40 000 points.

What am I contributing here? Am I not the one being screwed over?

Let me clear up some things:

- My server won last week ’cause of nightcapping. We made we gained 40 000 points over the other servers in just 2 nights. I know, I was there pulling on all-nighters. So you might say, this thread is not about crying, why would I cry? We won (using an unfair method).

- Offair: Don’t give up yet, I’m curious. You said you were a nightcapper, right? You probably know then, that nightcapping wins 90% of the close matches, if not all. You can get 10 000 – 30 000 points in just one night. There are (estimate – my server) 150-500 different people playing in daytime. There are (estimate – my server) 15-25 people playing at night. How is it fair, that the “fate” of all those people are diceded by those few? Shouldn’t it be balanced in some way (like I suggested)?

- Veeber: First, calm down. There are EU and US servers. Prime times should revolve around that. Like I said in few comments above, just getting US players to EU servers and vica versa, is not a solution. Just think it through.

Not really, but close enough. And that quote is from you at the 4th post, but whatever.

A servers primetime is determined by the players. Believe it or not, when players sleep, they cannot play, they play mostly when they are awake.

My post was about that the system should cater to those players, while still maintaining the importance of night owls and/or players from other regions.

I can’t really see how this hurts you, or any other player.

i “work” all night with my teammates to get stuff to tier3 just to lose it in the morning to 20 ppl with no effort, so lets do something about that for people who play at night due for not having a 9 to 5 job

Done, as you can see, in my initial post, the morning cap is also nerfed.

But that is not a solution, that is only making the problem (which it seems some people don’t even acknowledge exists) worse.

You ‘work’ all day kitten your points with 100-150 of your mates, coordinating, commanding your behind off, fighting off blobs, defending, losing t3, upgrading again, just to lose all stuff during night, not to mention the -20 000 points – to a group of 20 people with no effort.

But hey, according to the solution with 2 posts above, all EU players should play on US, and all US on EU! Problem solved! Amirite?
