Exciting game, lots of advertising, lots of hype, lots of competition,.

Anyway I don’t care it is for Grouch to decide on these things.

This should probably be merged with the other thread on release dates.

Dear Spanish speakers!

Pardon my little latin knowledge, but “La Muerte” is literally “The Death” right?

And I have a feeling that “La Parca” is our “párka”, and parca in English, which was a mythological figure, actually 3 (female) figures, who weaved the fates of humans, and cut the threads when it was due time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcae

Conclusion: Parca is female, but not a reaper, but a weaver :P

Btw: for some more mindkitten, according to the wiki one of the Parca’s name is Morta aka. La Muerte, thus La Muerte is just 1/3 Parca.

Have a nice day!

Sometimes getting my dailies done while leveling can be impossible, because all the groups in the LFG tool are only looking for 80s, or you’re running with noobs so the entire dungeon takes very long.

Why is this a thing? Do dungeons need to be as difficult as they are?

Watch a video of said dungeon and cheese your way through, like everyone does.

obviously not.

After reading through the thread multiple times, I realized that it is about: there is no word for reaper in french or spanish. That’s … interesting.

We here in Hungary have “Kaszás” for it, which literally translates back to “Scyther”, which makes all the sense.

The only thing I really can’t beat is Windmane. I have done almost all the other stuff for the luminescent thing. But not Windmane.

I have watched the videos, I have read the guides, and I have made group with friends and PUGs. I still can’t defeat him in the hard mode, or avoid all of his area stuff (Also I HATE PLAYING WITH KITTEN CAITHE).

Any advice?

Go in with a group and DON’T be the instace leader/opener. Only the one who opens the story thing becomes Caithe, you can get the achies on your normal char then. Bring a char with lotsa evades/blocks + food with endurance regen.

The sand traps spawn where you kill the small elementals (or whatevers, can’t remember their names), so don’t be near them when you kill em! Use ranged.

Also go for 1 achie at the time.

As for Caithe herself, lots of her moves are evades, you really gotta get used to them.

I did LS 2 with achievements on my ele and I know there are plenty of better eles put there. Some things are easier done with specific professions but all are quite doable.

Nope I still can’t pass that level. Guess I am not 1337 enough to play HoT then.

classic Dunning-Kruger. You do not have to be 1337 to beat this in any way, just not very, very bad.

In that case, I am too bad a player to play HoT then. Don’t want to spend $50 and not enjoy the game.

I’m starting to wonder what’s the point of this thread.

The point of this thread is to point out that some players, like me, are just not good enough to play and enjoy HoT.

Get better then, as you seem immune to any advice, this is the best I can give you.

That statement is downright insulting. Some people simply do not have the PHYSICAL ability to do some of those things. There IS no ‘get better’, there may even be ‘get worse’.

Of course. It is impossible to improve. Oh wait.

LOL wouldn’t your first thought to be to try to find help doing it before coming on the forums complaining that something is too hard for you, doing it solo.

I tried solo first because all the personal story quests, like the living story quests, are made for solo. If the content is not meant to be solo-ed, they would warn you when you try to solo them.

Besides, good luck trying to get someone to help you with personal story when they get nothing back in return, not even karma.

1. Special snowflake mentality is no better. There is (in most cases) a pretty solid reason why people do what they do. Evolution and stuff seems to prove that.

2. To be honest, all I am arguing about is the source of hype, which I believe to be the company that does the promotion, as I explained dozens of times before. The current hyperide for HoT has come to halt if not crashed.

People want meaningful info. Cause if you don’t give it, then it’s a natural assumption that there was originally nothing behind the hype.

(Sidenote: E3 announced an FFVII remake – my favorite game of all time. Was I excited when I heard it? Sure was. Am I “hyped”? Not really, I can safely assume it’s at least 2 years before it gets released. Not sure what Squenix does differently tho – probably it’s that I know I’m gonna get solid content)

I am no longer excited for the expansion.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Bubi.7942

Because you (and most people i know of) are doing it wrong. People tend to get hyped insanely easily and then their hype dies down and are immediately looking for some other source of that hyped feeling.

Whereas it is much better to build up your own little “hype” over time, so that you are more and more excited about the object of your desire the closer you get to it.

But then again, it seems to be something quickly becoming part of our culture to be overly excited about some things, just for the sake of… i don’t know… adrenaline rush?

1. If most people are doing it wrong, that means probably you are doing it wrong. The point and meaning of hype is to get excited easily.

2. Since when is it the costumers role to get him/herself hyped? Shoud I also do the advertising for the product or what?

I am no longer excited for the expansion.

Right, but there are two people in this thread blaming Anet for creating all this hype or overhyping the game. Since I started by replying to them, not sure why you’re responding to my posts. I agree that Anet has done a bad job of hyping this.

Which is why I’m disagreeing with the people who are claiming Anet is responsible for over-hyping this product.

Stuff that’s too long to qoute…

1. If I accept it for what it is, I won’t buy it. Currently there is little to no appeal in HoT. That is what people are asking for. If you don’t have anything you can hype with that’s pretty bad, and that seems to be the case.

2. Cool link. And that’s exactly the problem. Releasing info that only PvP-ers may care about, and most likely even from them only a low percentage does. Sorry, but if you set the hype train rolling with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxLkfXwxLTs , then don’t be surprised if your fans are gonna be dissapointed in such articles as you linked.

3. Not sure what an Air Jordan is, not really a thing where I live, but I’m guessing it’s shoes. I’m pretty sure tho, if you go out and say to people: “Hey these shoes/game coming out whenever is average or maybe even sub-par, buy ’em!” it’s not gonna work too well, and you are not gonna get peole hyped (again, you are creating the hype, it doesn’t matter if they bite or not).

What Anet did was:
- Annnounce shoes to be super, awesometastic
- Said wait for details
- Sloooooooooowly announced that it has a front
- And it has shoelaces
- And you can wear it
- On your foot
- It also has a back
- Wait for details
- …

I’m no marketing genius, but I feel it’s high time to remind your “fans” why your product is worth buying.

Ps.: If you are a writer feel free to use my comparison to hype, I quite like it.

Cause hype is like an erection. It’s great and easy initially, but you can’t keep it up for ages unless there is enough stimulus.

With the announcement of HoT Anet created hype. New maps, challanging content, new specializations, new weapons, GvG, new WvW maps woooot! All this wrapped with shows with boomstick and Jenna’s voice actress.

Then it turns out it’s 1 speialization, and 1 weapon, and not really GvG and 1 new PvP map. And we still don’t know anything about the new map(s) or the challenging content. Naturally people assume (at least I do), if there is no info about it, they can expect the minimum.

And with time passing by, it gets flaccid.

If people hyped themselves, then they would. What’s the difference? Even with no info, hype levels would be the same, no? Yet more and more posts are arising, people losing interest in the game, and losing players before the big renewal is not a good thing. Yes, some will return, but some are lost forever.

But the game company is NOT creating that hype. Are you even paying attention. This very thread is about not being hyped.

Most people are saying Anet isn’t hyping enough. Hype comes from the fans, not the company. Anet has come out with relatively little hype themselves. The fact is, this game has been tremendously underhyped by Anet and it’s kittening some people off.

Fans are getting hyped, not creating it.

There may be some cases where where fans create it, like when datamining stuff “gets out”. But this is not the case.

In this case Anet made the announcements, the shows, the demos etc.. thus Anet is the hyper, and the player is the hypee.

Your personal hype level is completely 100% irrelevant. First of all, I don’t see the value of keeping people hyped in the first place. I think it’s a bad idea. They need the hype toward the end, not now. When they need hype, they’ll create it.

Secondly hype just means people get over excited and judge everything by the highest standard. Most games end up being treated unfairly by fans, because fans have hyped themselves into a state where nothing real could satisfy them. Most MMOs, just about all of them, take time to get off the ground. But fans are hyped and don’t give them that chance.

Most MMOs improve over the first year or two, and fans tend to move away and never look back. And people wonder why companies are reluctant to invest an creating an MMO.

Fans create the hype? Sure.

That’s why they have built a show around the announcement, made teaser trailers, saying in every announcement it’s gonna be “AWSUM”, etc..

C’mon, Anet even hypes basic feature like the lfg tool as never-before-seen, game world changing, intercommunicational revolution.

In my mind you get XP for everything anyway, so when HoT comes out, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to go around completing old zones. I’ll be playing the new content and getting experience with everything I do.

The amount of experience in the game is infinite. You keep getting it. Saving a vista or a point of interest or a way point seems counter productive to me.

The reason people usually world complete is to attempt to get black lion keys or to get the gift of exploration required to make legendaries.

But aren’t there going to be masteries for the Great Old Zones (forbidden sight, he searches, Hunter of the shadow is riiisiiiing – sorry) and the New Zone(s)? And you can train them in each zone respectively?

I think its ANET’s forum balancing that has led to this. They would really have no clue as to what to do with their game if it was not for the forums.

What about those players who never played WoW, nor any sub game, yet still think HoT in it’s current state (at least from the info we got so far) is not worth it?

Also, just stop it with the $ / hour reasoning.

I got FFXIII for 7 euros on steam, and played it for 150 h+, so it was better right?

I got FTL for 1.39 euros, my playtime is 70 hours and I play it almost daily. So much better.

Then again, I play LoL since 3 years now, and that’s F2P. Best value ever.

Cause the official website of the actual company says nothing about the content that I care for, which is:

- How many maps are there actually
- “Challenging new content” – shape, form, presentation, something

And I’m no marketing genius, but the first thing I would mention on that cover is “X new maps to explore!” or “X new dungeons” or “Introducing Raids!” – IF I had a decent number of maps/things to work with.

Of course, I am neither Anet’s marketing department, nor does this mean there will be a lack of content. But for me it certainly implies it.

Look at the back of any MMO box on that website:

  • WoW doesn’t show how many maps, dungeons or raids there are.
  • Wildstar doesn’t show how many maps, dungeons or raids there are.
  • ESO doesn’t show how many maps there are, or even imply that they got instanced content.

Yeah, but those are the base games, not the expansions where you have to show what you are expanding.

Just because someone is educated in one field, like the professor you mentioned, doesn’t mean he is educated in another or that he doesn’t speak the way he was taught by people most emphatically not educated in this when he was young.

And what field is that? Is there a more specific field for this then being an M.D.?

Note that I am just trying to point out, that education has little or nothing to do with the question.

That professor was also 60 years old at the time he said that. His medical training was a good 40 years before that and he was taught by people who medical training was 40 to 50 years before that. A lot has changed in the last 80 – 100 years in the understanding of human biology and the possible variations. If you are going by the one opinion of someone whose education is that far back, well, i have to tell you. There have been some updates.

Yet some of my recently educated friends believe the same (also MD and Dentist).

Educated in the fields they went to school and got a degree in doesn’t mean they are educated in everything. The fields they didn’t study, they are no better than laypeople.

What field is that?

Unless transsexuality resides in the teeth, your dentist friend is only a lay person in his understanding. Unless your doctor friend is a specialist in sexual behavior then his classes likely only touched upon this before going on to other subjects. Most doctors have a general medical training and then they go on to a specific training in one field.

As to the field, It’s not one field. It’s many fields coming together. For example it’s genetics, the studies of hormones and their effects, the case studies of children that are raised a different gender than their sex, history, the studies of different cultures to see how these show up over across cultures and how they are handled in each culture. It’s even studies of animals and their sexual behaviors (homosexual rams are fairly common for example).

So unless you are a doctor, an antrpologist, an animal doctor, a psychologist, philosophist and a historian all at once and in all of these fields you have not specialized in sexual behavior your oppinions don’t really matter.

I have a feeling no one in the world fits the above description.

So did a lot of doctors back in the day. They said homosexuality was a mental illness. And they were wrong. Being educated with a PhD does not give you a pass on ignorance.

Correct me if I am wrong, but not having your body produce the right hormones (or more os less of them), being born with extra X or Y chromosomes is considered a sickness. Note: I didn’t say mental illness.

So.

This is a supposed picture of the back cover of the HoT box (it is from a well trusted if not the most trusted online retailer in my country).

No mention on it of new PvE maps, “challenging group content”, PvP or WvW. If this cover is real then… this won’t end well.

I suppose this online retailer is more of a reliable source than the actual website managed by the company developing the expansion.

Well, I can’t think of a good reason to go and make a fake back cover.

To clarify:
Anything that others say is bad.

Anything that dervix says is good.

There, have a fun argument.
