ok here is an example of the mobs im talking about… you know how in different spots in areas there are naga or something surrounding some sort of pylon (this is an old example mind you) in the normal open world… where you run around and explore… yeah those mobs are in newbie areas too… regardless this isnt quite an issue for me considering the 2 toons i play on the most are level 80. even with the down scaling of level they are normally more powerful than the other foes of the area. im just saying that those spots can be frustrating for people who are new to the game because your running around exploring the area you are in and you run into a mob that you think you can beat and they slaughter you almost instantly. in the open world… not an instance.

i have owned the game since it was pre-orderable. i know what im talking about.

yes i have used the different aspects of the chat window… i know how the functions work.

Wat?

You have owned the game since pre-order, yet you do not know that the naga people are called Krait?

You have owned the game since pre-order, yet you do not know that the pylons you are talking about, I assume are the toxic spore events from LS1?

It really is starting to smell like a troll post… but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

The Toxic spore events are unique, and the mobs there are from an alliance (Krait – Nightmare court) fused together, they should feel powerful. Also the event clearly states group event. Even with that, it can be solod.

Yes, if you are inexperienced or low level, you WILL get killed. So what? WP for 1 silver and you are done.

Also, these events grant a unique crafting component at the end.

OOO! New Beta!

What IS the end game content?

Bubi.7942

What exactly is the end game content, and how do all you find it fun? Because farming for gear when it’s acquisition won’t be noticeable in these large end game events really makes me think twice about finding gw2 exciting

I can recommend 2 things:

- Try Fractals of the Mists, and see how far you can rack up your FotM levels (max is 50 atm). Those get progressively harder to test your abilities.

- Try regular WvW. What you described of EotM is pretty accurate, a giant blob running around killing NPCs, occasionally an 50 v 5 fight. Regular WvW is more about PvP, and the toughest challenge you can get is always an enemy player

Another example of the sort of awful “random good AI” fight people who don’t understand game design want. Get a level 35 character or 5. Go into AC explorable and fight kohler with blue quality gear and no traits. Kohler leaps around and dodges and evades and spams fast auto attacks that cannot all be dodged. This is basically EXACTLY the sort of fight you are all describing.

Except of course, that no one is saying this. Like really, read the posts above, no one.

Everyone else seemed to get the point. In fact:

What I mean by random is that instead of lupicus having his normal 4 phase 3 moves this time you encounter him he has 4 other moves. And the next time he has 4 other moves. Or next time you do arah Lupicus isn;t even there its some other boss with other random mechanics. aka Chaos.

… seems like you get the point as well.

Are we just arguing now for the sake of arguing?

@Nike, Thad:

Yes, learning them plays the biggest role, but there are several types of learning methods.

You likely agree, that an expert dungeon runner, can carry any 4 PuGs if the PuGs listen to him/her. Now why is that? It’s because the encounters are not inherently hard, the mechanics can be easily explained and after you observed the boss once (or heck, you don’t even need to observe the boss, just copy the expert dungeon runner), you got it for the rest of your life. Without really learning the encounter.

I could compare this to “Zerg rush” in the original Starcraft (if you played that). It was a legit, good tactic, but 90% of the zerg rushers never bothered to learn anything beyond that. They did the zerg rush perfectly, like a machine, and when it failed cause you countered it they just plugged out their internet cable (no punishments for DC back then). It’s kinda the same here with dungeon.

Not sure who suggested above more randomness in encounters to test the “real skill” of the players (someone even joked with Random Mossman). And that’s great, that’s exactly what is needed in my oppinion. Less scripted, less predictable fights. Experience still matters, but it would boil down to skill.

And I don’t mean completely random. A good example would be, that currently exists in game, is the Centaur boss (Windmane something) from LS2 in solo mode.

Maybe they could do a system where you could do lots of stuff, and be awarded with 1 AP for anything you do. It could have these same things as it has now, but it could have like, I don’t know, maybe daily slayer, daily dungeon completer.

Maybe it could even have like a secondary a system, where there are like harder to get stuff, like JPs, and that would be on a monthly scale.

Well.. too much posts to catch up with, so I’ll just pop in again without reading what has been said since, risking that this might already have been said:

There seems to be a popular misconception of people surviving in zerker because they are highly skilled. Most are surviving because the encounters are so predictable, slow, and easy.

No on is arguing about (at least from what I read) about highly skilled players shouldn’t survive with zerker stats. It’s more about everyone and their mother can survive in zerker (again, back to my old posts, not talking about solo/speedruns).

90% (made up number) of the players shouldn’t be able to complete the supposed to be hardest content in the game waering full glass armor. If they are able to, something is definetly broken.

How about a WvW tournament?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bubi.7942

In this pre-expansion period, players are anxious for content to help pass the time. I think a WvW tournament would help invigorate the WvW scene, draw in a few otherwise apathetic PvE’ers, and give everyone a small boost of AP and some of those Hero’s and Mistforged Hero’s skins to boot.

It would be a good chance to get a final rush of players into the Mist War before the current borderlands get pulled out for the new one, and it is probably one of the least-demanding forms of content that could be implemented.

So, how about it? Would anyone else like to see another WvW tourney?

If you truly believe the "live-and-let-live philosophy regarding two camps of thought ( complete fast, vs just complete) then why the hell are you even arguing? get on and enjoy the game. Just don’t get mad if I kick you from my group because our goals don’t align.

I really hope you won’t do that, cause on rare occasions I actually do dungeons, I do it solo/duo. So don’t kick me from my group please.

Jokes aside, it’s great that we are getting somewhere.

It seems the difference lies in 2 things now:

- IMO you don’t go splat aside from a very bosses/situations (like 2% of the encounters) in dungeons
- it’s not only the dungeon experience that made dungeons “easy”. It’s also:
1. Better and more powerful traits than at the start,
2. Ascended gear, and easier access to exotic than ever,
3. General open world experience is more engaging and challenging now than before

@Thaddeus:
Hm…

I have noticed this in previous posts, and I may get the wrong impression but I can’t help but feel that speedrunners think that non-speedrunners want to nerf zerker cause they are jelous of their super fast times, and want to also do that?

I dunno about others, but I’m sure I don’t. If that’s what floats others boat, let them do it. I do not care if my team beats a boss under 5 mins, while a speedrunner team does it under 30 secs.

The gripe I have is that zerker stat is way forgiving, the damage boost you get from it is not on par with the risk you take up by wearing it. It doesn’t become a glass cannon, just a cannon.

And I blame easy dungeons and cheese player tactics for that.

The only goal IS to climb the tree. No one cares if you have a concrete block or not (that is what I meant with no one cares about speedruns), that is YOUR problem for wanting to climb the tree that way.

And meh, I shouldn’t have said it was a contest, cause doing a dungeon isn’t a contest either, my mistake.

@ bubi – plenty of people care about speed runs. Plenty of people care about running speedily ( if not record times). Completing things faster is not “artificial difficulty”.
Go get a team together and set a record. Attempt to set a record. Then you can talk as if you have knowledge on the topikittenil then, leave your ego outside the door. To compare setting records to key farming discredits anything you could possibly have to say on the subject. It’s like comparing a water pistol to a military sniper rifle.

I’m still not getting through it seems. I will try to keep this as simple and clear as possible.

Dungeons are not difficult.

Speedrunning is difficult.

Speedrunnig in any game, or in any game aspect is difficult.

Why? Cause you set your own standards which you race against (or others standards).

This doesn’t change the base content in any way.

Thus the argument: “But dungeons are challenging cause speedrunning/soloing is hard” is meaningless. It has nothing to do with the subject of the thread.

This was what I was replying to originally.

Example1:
Super Mario Bros is not a hard game. Speedrunning Super Mario Bros is hard. That doesn’t make Super Mario Bros a hard game.

Example2:
You are at a tree climbing contest. You decide that you want to start the contest with your feet in a block of concrete. Then you say: “Man, tree climbing is hard!”

No, it doesn’t work that way.

Edit:
Speedrunning a dungeon is exactly as the same difficulty as speedrunning anything. The difficulty comes from the fact that you are speedrunning, not the content you are doing. Speedrunning a dungeon, is the same as speedrunning a key farm, speedrunning Super Mario Bros or speedrunning to your corner store.

Speedrunning = Speedrunning

Don’t believe me? Go set a speed run record… etc.

You aware that you are saying that to Nike from DnT right? Because if you are saying that, it mean that you should already set a speed run record, but didn’t like it a bit, but if you did that you should know who is Nike, so you probably never set a record speed run. So the guy that never did a record run ask to a guy that did it to do it and see how boring it is?? Now I have a headache.

No, I have no idea who he is, nor do I care. I was not aware that you need to have special rights to reply to someone on the forums. Should I start calling him his highness too or something?

Jesus…

Well. The point I was trying to get through (unsuccessfully it seems), that no one gives a kitten about speed runs or solo runs. You arteficially increasing the difficulty for yourself does not justify dungeons being mind-numbingly easy.

You can do it while doing a headstand and playing with your feet, or just smashng the keyboard with your kittens, but that doesn’t actually make the dungeon challenging. It stays the same old crap.

Dungeons should be fun, part of the fun is challenge, everyone in full zerk speed running is not fun nor is it challenging. You can say “but but if everyone goes tanky the fights will last longer” but that unrealistic. People will still insist on everyone running full zerk, stacking, and everything else that makes it quick and painless.

This is the reason the trinity was there to begin with, while I can respect that they tried to get away from the trinity, the current format has made dungeons a formality to earn gold vs something to do for fun.

1. It is fun.

2. It is challenging. Don’t believe me? Go set a speed run record. Win the next speed clear tournament. Speed running is not easy. Unless you consider what PUGS in berserker gear do to be speed runs, you are sorrily mistaken. I assure you that if you joined my nightly dungeon tour you wouldn’t be able to keep up with us and our pace of play.

Exactly as much fun and challenging as key farming with lv10.

Don’t believe me? Go set a speed run record… etc.

@TPMN, NikeEU:

1. Why not erase all gear then (like I previously proposed)? Have a dumbed-down training mode for all dungeons (basicly story mode), and have the expert mode. There, training done. If everyone is wearing zerker, it doesn’t matter, would be easier to actually balance dungeons.

2. I thought gear and builds were different. You can go all heal traitlines and runes with zerker gear too.
IMO the thread pops up every week cause people get sick and tired of pressing 1 in the corner, and see it as a flaw of the game.

Also this: “Remember after 3 yrs the hardest bosses will seem trivial with good groups who have practiced this daily. For new players there is still the oh “how do I beat this boss” learning curve and what skills do I bring for active defenses?”

This would be nice if it worked so, the thing is, 1 experienced player can breeze through any dungeon with PuGs (granted they listen), simply by saying: “stack here, use reflect” or “invis, skip”.

Anyway, do you guys think there is a valid reason they won’t bring it back? It wouldn’t have hurt anyone to have it available this April Fools.

I don’t think they need reasons, they seem to be in tunnel vision mode since the release of this game. GvG CDI? New dungeons? New player’s experience? Trait system?

It’s unbelievable that a Guild Wars game still doesn’t have GvG, and the stuff they made instead, like SAB, was removed!

I noticed the lack of GvG. If I didn’t know any better I never would have guessed the game has been out as long as it has. I definitely got my 15 dollars out of it, but man I’d be upset if I got the game at launch. But I’m getting off topic.

Guild wars has nothing to do with GVG stop thinking that. “Guild Wars” the name of the game is based off a war between the various guilds at the time in Tyria. Orr, Kryta, Ascalon being those. Not GVG the PVP mode.(Still on the side of wanting it back, but neither of these posts are useful, and for that matter neither is this one)

Yes, but no one else calls his game Dragon Slayer 3 with no dragons in it. It’s unique to GW2. I feel special.

You should though. You should be clear about how you feel about things and say them out loud.

Saying everything I feel and everything that comes into my head is not a decent way to live. Sorry. lol

If one of my employees is thinking about me, "Wow, she is so hot, I want to grab her and pull her into a closet and bang her good, " No thanks, I don’t want to hear this or know this.

Keeping one’s feelings and thoughts to one’s self is a very healthy and wise thing to do in many, many a situation.

I meant saying it outloud for yourself, not screaming around in public, or making posters about it. It’s just at least You should know how You feel.

Changing "We don't rez the dead" mentality.

People weren’t reviving for the reason of DPS races and stuff in PSO 2 JP and eventually people complained: both the English speaking players on it and the native Japanese.

Now reviving is encouraged as you get fun points to spend (40 per revival) everytime you revive someone with a revival item. That game however has just plain dead no downed or anything nice like GW 2 has. We can dodge however.

GW 2 needs to add something like karma or what the other member suggested: a new title track + effects for said titles.

I always revive people dead or downed, because I’m
not a kittening kitten!

You already get XP for ressing.
