So.

This is a supposed picture of the back cover of the HoT box (it is from a well trusted if not the most trusted online retailer in my country).

https://cdgalaxis.hu/termekkepek/hatlap/pcg/pcg_guild_wars_2_heart_of_thorns_standard_edition_pre_purchase_v1506.jpg

No mention on it of new PvE maps, “challenging group content”, PvP or WvW. If this cover is real then… this won’t end well.

For example we dont know how many maps there are in HoT, what if there are more then 7?

we dont know what challenging group content there will be, what if there is more then 8 new dungeons? or perhaps 8 new dungeons with 3 paths each? It may even contain raids or the equivalent (Arenanet did hire a raid specialist after all)

*bursts out laughing*

Yeah right. Dream on.

Three new maps

Where is this stated?

I’ve seen that maps will have “3 distinct biomes”, but never an ArenaNet statement on how many new maps there will be.

They did state somewhere that it is in fact, more than 1 map.

Which means…

drumroll

2 maps. 3 at best.

To put it into another perspective, single player games range from $50-60 and usually yield 30-60 hours worth of gameplay. GW2 being $50 initially with no other costs, means after 30-60 hours the initial cost of the game is irrelevant.

I detest this argument, and want to throw up every time I see it.

According to this, F2P games are the best thing ever, and can only be beaten by if you are a QA tester, and you even get paid for playing. Right….

If you really want to measure the “worth” of a game, please insert stuff like “level of enjoyment”, “saturation”, “personal gain” etc..

[Discussion] The extra WvW ranks

in WvW

Bubi.7942

Love the basic idea of the suggestion, although it wouldn’t play out too smoothly.

It could make people invest in it instead of useful stuff, or if you could only “buy” it after everything is maxed, then when a new mastery comes out, that would make people lose MF (which is not a good feeling).

Instead they could just let you get +1% MF for every 50 ranks (or something) while in WvW.

Maybe you could exchange the extra points simply for gold, or something.

Mobility is the real culprit, not DPS.

Just in case you are confused, the “tools” I am mentioning are any item used to reduce time that it takes to clear a dungeon. The RNG aspect of items dropped from bags does not negate the fact that you tend to make more money if you complete the same dungeon faster (or complete the dungeon more times in the same span of time) than someone who is not speedrunning.

Exactly how does speedclearing improve your rewards? Oh right, it doesn’t. If you want to make more: get a job, get another job, get a better job or play the trading post. Speedclearing is a joke.

Lol.

Speed clearing is easier than learning to play the trading post or getting a job. It is less effective but easier to do.

If you play 3 hours per day and manage to do all dungeons vs half the dungeons in that time then you are more effective.
I’m surprised this needed typing out.

Easier than getting a job? You must be out of your mind, because I get paid a nice wage +benefits and 2/5 days a week I just look up videos on YouTube to pass the time. If getting a job was really that difficult, it wouldn’t be an expectation for every person over the age of 16 to have one.

Once you foot your way through the door, it’s even easier to pick up hours too – take over coworker’s shifts, be a model employee that your boss loves, etc. It’s not difficult. The next time your three hour dungeon tour nets you 250 gold, come talk to me.

We just witnessed the end of gaming everybody.

And it’s great that You or Your team/guild don’t use them, and that in your personal experience, rarely encountered them. I have different experiences however. I have redone Arah recently (like 4 months ago) with PuGs, because I have totally forgot about them (I did them 2 years before that). Done all 4 paths once. All 4 times, someone glitched Lupi in above described manner. One time we even skipped half of the dungeon by jumping out of map somewhere.

Unlucky? Maybe, but I have my doubts.

Exactly, I optimize my game experience by playing with people I know or have fun with, aka guildies.

My expectations are a tad lower when playing with pugs and I try to be more relaxed. I’d assume the best fix to said bugs is to fix them, instead of arbitratily blaming gear.

Also your sample size is terrible. All 4 paths AND not having played the game in along time. I’d never make assumptions on that basis, or at least very careful ones.

I see you fail to get my point. My sample size is exactly as terrible as yours, that was the intention. It is personal experience, that is why I bothered to write it down in the first place.

Also, I do not recall saying one word about gear (at least not in this thread), that is a different issue.

Edit:
@petyr:
I have yet to see the one true definiton of exploiting in gaming.

What I have described, is the game mechanic, yes. The exploiting part comes from our brave adventurers stacking up before the fight in a corner luring friendly NPC on top of themselves, then because of the dumb AI boss walks up and kills himself whitout ever being a threat to players.

I mean, if it’s intented to stay in the bubble all the time, why even have it? Why even have the boss area? I mean that big, plain arena surely wasn’t set up for a boss fight, no, it was that one square centimeter behind the corner, where you cant even see anything cause of your camera.

Further Edit:
Remember Mortal Kombat (the original)? I used to have it on SNES. If you got one of your opponents in the corner, and performed an uppercut, you could keep mashing low/highpunch and your opponent would always bounce up, never fall down and recover.

That thing has been in the game since release (since you know, cartridges were harder to update). It was clearly something not intended, an exploit. But no one gave a kitten and everyone used, and BAM, instant feature.

OP

First, two things:

- i regularly run fractals, and speed clear dungeons. We never glitch anything. Just once in fractals and for laughs (the mai trim glitch)
- using reflects on a boss is not an exploit. If you think it is, then so dodging, healingm cand even attacking would be exploits. Dont troll if you are serious about your post.

Op is saying (if I got it right) that for instance glitching Lupi in the wall so you can place a reflect on the wall behind him instantly destroying 50%+ of his health is exploiting.

I have a feeling many people got so used to glithy/cheesy dungeon runs, that they consider that normal now.

And yet there are even more of us “normal” players who do not abuse such glitches. I’m fully ascended on both my main character and main twink and I can count down the times I have been exposed to such a glitch on one hand.

Like I said, it depends on one’s definition of a glitch/exploit.

For me squeezing 5 people in the corner at the end of AC3 (or 1?) so the NPC also stacks on you, thus you avoid the any damage that can be done by done falling ceiling falls under the category of exploiting. You could argue that it is just “smart play”, for me, it’s pretty clear it’s not intentional.

And it’s great that You or Your team/guild don’t use them, and that in your personal experience, rarely encountered them. I have different experiences however. Why would they change it? Do you think they will change ascended after enough time passes?

Both armors have significant advantage over standard exotic so if you want it, it will take time to craft and once crafted it’s bound to you. No Daddy Warbucks can shortcut the process by buying charged crystals or the armor itself off the TP.

But Ascended Time gating makes (somewhat) sense. You can sell/buy Damask, Deldrimor etc.. That’s meant for even if you already have fully ascended gear, it will still be worth carfting, as you will always profit because of the time gating (meaning people will pay more to skip time gate). I remember Anet themselves saying this in some blog post or forum post.

Yet you cannot sell anything (save grow lamp, which was introduced way later) with Charged Quartz. So I ask again, why is it still time gated?

Mobility is the real culprit, not DPS.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bubi.7942

First let’s look at the days when FGS elite was dominant, can we can all agree that FGS did the MOST DPS in the game ever? If you examine the past world record runs where FGS was used for damage, most of them are actually over 1minute slower than what it is today. Why? Because instead of using FGS to damage, people are now using FGS to run and as a result has significantly improved their completion time!

I think you are not approaching this from the right direction.

Speed run times may have decreased their time, but that tells nothing of DPS or how fun/enjoyable the dungeons are.

People are not complaining because you can get from one encounter to the other too fast, it’s because you can take out enemies too fast. Swiftness doesn’t really have too much use in a dungeon encounter.

It never happened that there was no announcement or information. Sometimes it was because breaks, or because oft special events, or for feature patches. There has been given a reason every time for more then 2 years, at least on any information channel used by anet. Thats why I ask for it

Actually there were quite a few times when there was no info on the next update, only on the day of the release with the patch it self, which wasn’t always a 2 weeks period. This was especially true in LS season 1. I would link in the forums archives with lots of threads like “When is this gonna end?” “When does next LS start?” and such, but alas, no archives for some reason.

Players in 2015: We don’t want to wait for the expansion, give us fortnightly updates!

You are completely oversimplifying, as is Ardenwolf.

Players didn’t like the LS because of the horrendously long breaks after only a few episodes while the episodes themselves were incredibly lackluster in terms of actual content. Either they make short episodes like they did while sticking to a non stop 2 week schedule for at least half a year or make the individual episodes much longer and content rich; what we got was a pretty bad joke.

Also this, if you care to look up this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/

You’ll see that LS2 ran from July 1st to Jan 13th with a total of 8 episodes. Now I am no mathmagician, but that seems closer to monthly than “fortnighly”.

Edit: I did the math. That’s an LS update every 24.5 days.

There could not be expansions to anything if you think adding more content to game is pay to win. World of Warcraft is pay to win as you have to pay for the 15 expansios for it and game time.

I think many are focus on enhancing the current archetypes. Chronomancer worked because in plays on the manipulation of time which feels right at home with Mesmer. Think about it manipulating Time is the ultimate glamour / illusion so there is no disconnect from Mesmerise’s base identity. You need no lore explanation at all. Should this be the way with all specializations? I say No, as if this is a requirement it’s going to limit so much what can be achieved & done with specializations.

Now we get to Guardian’s, the Defender, Heavy Supporter, similar to the Holy Warrior archetype but not a warrior of a ‘Faith’ by lore. And the first specialization is Dragonhunter. A name many would say so far from the labels we would use for a Guardian going on past experiences and knowledge from fantasy, myths & other games. This is not even looking at what weapons, skills & traits Dragonhunters bring to the table.

For this name to fit in with the Guardian concept this name will need explanation through guild wars lore. And this is because of players past experiences and knowledge from fantasy, myths & other games. So far with the refer to the concept of Witch Hunters I can see how Guardians could become Dragonhunters. Their Virtue, their Valour, their Honour & Zeal could be driven to become the Witch Hunter’s of Tyria.

The Dragonhunters.

Lastly the other reason I’m really starting to love the Dragonhunter is because of the possibilities this opens up for the whole concept of specialization.

Not only can they Enhance a Profession’s Core Concept but Bend & Morph Profession’s in Way we Never Dreamed Of.

And if only for this reason I say Arenanet please keep Dragonhunter.

Or…

It was the first name that came to mind. In like any fantasy game. Ever.

Seeing quite a few posts regarding not being able to get ascended stuff…
There is 1 way and as lame as it is at least it gets you what you want… I’ve crafted ascended because I can within my limits and why not? Min maxer here as much as I can.

You can pretty much buy specific ascended anyway like I do:

- buy gems & convert to gold

- have skill points (e.g: 20 for 1 asc orb thing)
- have laurels to buy ascended recipe (e.g: 5 laurels = 1 recipe)
- have an abundance of Karma (easily acquired via EOTM Ktrain) to purchase Obby Shards

- buy Trick or Treat Bags and get the ascended mats (dragonite,
Emp frags & bloodstone)
- buy necessary inscription thing off TP
- buy necessary asc mats off TP (e.g: Deldrimoor Steel Ingots etc)

Practically bought save for the skill points, laurels & Karma as those require time and/or PvE/Ktrain in EOTM from champ bags.

Boom. There’s your asc wep etc.

But you don’t understand.

What some of these people want is the same thing you (or me) put in tons of effort and time for free.

Spend gold on it? Pffft. Get real man! You need all that gold you get for… oh wait. Nothing.

- One of your characters randomly gets perma-crippled

They all use spcific fractal bags so I know where I have to look for things (crap on top, rare on bottom). Why rare on bottom? Cause white/gray/event items/etc. will cramp the top of your inventory regardless of bag, so it is easiest to gather the “good” stuff on the bottom.

Also, resizing the window every time I want to play inventory manager is just as annoying.

$39,99 – $59,99 seems like a likely price range for standard edition.

This is wildly expensive for an expansion pack that -in contrast to the base game- provides a fraction of the content.

Also considering that ANet had the gem store from the get go this allows them to drop xpac price much more than a full game.

Don’t buy it then… simple resolution. Do a /age in game then divide it by the initial cost to buy the game… I’ll go first 4k hours / 50$ is like 1/80th of a cent per hour. Tell me, what other form of entertainment gives you a rate like that?

Any free to play game.

Eg.: The first minute of Farmville is worth more by that calculation.

I find it awesome that this thread still stays alive.
Some how I fee that Anet just wants it to go away. My only questions is what will they not just open up SAB, since so many liked it?

Well for one there were plenty of people that disliked it as well, especially world 2.

It is also the matter of it simply not being a case of pushing a button and it will magically work.

They also don’t have the personnel available right now to do anything that is not related to HoT. that was their choice, whether or not it’s a good one, but it’s the choice they made. HoT or nothing. The only thing that will be worked on and come out before HoT is skill/trait changes, which are also directly related to HoT because of specializations.

And then HoT comes out in let’s say, by the end of August / early September. And as we all guessed, no SAB until HoT.

You can bet your kitten that there will be no LS updates or anything (maybe bugfix updates) for 1.5-2 months. There’s enough new content, be happy with that, so no SAB.

And then… oh, it’s Halloween! Fire up those Lunatic Inquis farming AFK engines for the Return of the Bloody Prince again, who we see for the first time for some reason. Again. SAB? Nope.

And then… It’s Wintersday month! I guess no SAB, eh?

And then, a month’s break. Everyone needs a break sometimes.

And then LS3 will probably start somewhere in 2016 February. And as we all know, SAB doesn’t fit in the LS.

So…

SAB in 2017 maybe?

I do not think the Confirmation box itself is the problem.

I find unequippping the salvage kit automatically after every confirmation a lot more annoying.

Press Mystic Salavage Kit -> Click -> Scroll down to rares -> Click -> “Are you sure?” -> Scroll up to Mystic Salavage Kit -> Click -> Scroll down to rares… and so on.

And no, I am not rolling around in rares. I just cba to salvage them, so they rack up after a while.

Same reason why I have 1000+ scrolls of knowledge, who knows how many luck, and 2.5+ mil karma lying around. QoL update please?

New trait system, but what about...
