It is considered and well understood. That doesn’t change the problem tough, that it’s not completable (by human standards). I stated in a previous post that I actually like Snowball Mayhem, but I won’t spend 30 hours in it however. No one will. So why make it that way? It just kittenes people off.

Compare that to the 15 total AP of the Snowball Mayhem repeatable, which can take at least 12 hours if you constantly play it with no breaks.

Slight correction: It’s 30 hours counting with 10 min of playing and 2 mins of loading/ready up.

I have never said anything about the amount of work.
I would have no issues with achievements taking much more effort to be honest. In fact I would love to have a bunch really hard achievements.

The new Living Story ones are a step in the right direction, but it should be getting even harder in my opinion.

1. Yes, yes you did. Right in your previous post. "It is relevant because people seems to dislike the fact that you have to actually do or work a bit for the achievements. "

2. No one is arguing about how “hard” the achievments are. Pressing the 1 key to get participation in the mini-game is not what I consider hard. It’s about the ridicilous time it consumes.

3. If by the end of the Wintersday you can show me ANYONE who has maxed out Snowball Mayhem (not even talking about the others here, which together consume about 60 more hours – will do math if needed), I will join the ranks of glorious Anet defenders forever, and we can vanquish evil side-by-side. Deal?

Okay I have reconsidered my previous statement.

While I think Bell choir and the JP is whitin reason, and Toypocalypse on the very edge of reason Snowball mayhem is waaaaaaaaaay over the top.

150 games? It takes an avarge of 10 minutes for 1 game + 2 minutes loading and waiting. So that’s 150×12 mins. That’s 30 hours of pure playtime in Snowball Mayhem. Did anyone even bother to think this trough (my guess is that no, just like at Lunatic Inquis).

And even tough I like Snowball Mayhem (I actually think it’s better than regular PvP), there is no way anyone, and I mean anyone will spend that much time in that activity, let alone when there are others to do out there.

[BUG] Stairbug in Winter Wonderland JP

in Living World

Posted by: Bubi.7942

Bubi.7942

I would like to max out the AP for this JP so I tought I run it 75 times. But that 75 quickly became 150+ when I got killed every 2nd run by “stairs”.

If you don’t know what the Stairbug is then (you probably didn’t play enough WvW) you may have not encountered it before: it means when you are running down a staircase you take damage repeatedly, most likely ending up dead – it’s a kind of messy, buggy fall damage.

In Winter Wonderland this happens after the Gift part when descending on the Candy cane slope. It doesn’t happen every time, for me it’s like 50%. Sometimes it kills me, sometimes it just takes away half my health so I freeze to death later on. Whatever the case, it’s annoying.

So to make this a bit more formal:

Bug description:
Dying on slope for no reason, taking falling damage for no reason.

Occurance:
About 50% of the time.

Place:
Wintersday Jumping Puzzle (Winter Wonderland) on the slope after the gift part.

Recommended solution:
1. Fix it. Stairbug is a thing since beta
2. Make the slope less steep

Edit:
I made a video on it, I hope this helps identifying it and fixing it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3yVmn5kKyk

Video covers 2 runs. On the first one random dude dies right in front of me, on the second round I experience it first hand.

OPs concern is legit.

Yes, you don1t have to do it, but why does that mean the achievments have to be out of sanity.

No one finds killing 1,000,000 dolyaks fun.
No one finds grinding 79,920 dungeon tokens fun.
No one finds doing 80 rounds of Lunatic Inquisition fun under 2 weeks.

With that said, I don’t think this Wintersday is too bad in that regard, you have a much larger time frame than you had for Halloween.

Simple solution:

Maximize AP you can gain at the first time you do a batch (so you have to do it once for the AP), and for every other batch just hand out activity chests.

AP hunters happy.
Playing for fun guys happy.

There’s nothing random about the jumping puzzle. Once you get the timing right, you have the timing right and you can farm it. It seems random because you’re not seeing the pattern. The only time I don’t succeed on this puzzle is when I make a mistake.

But the actual jumping is hard, there’s no question about it.

As for it not being fair that some skritt shoot you even though you’ve done everything right the first time, it depends on what you mean by fair.

Every jumping PUZZLE is just that. It’s something you have to figure it out. If you die, you learn something and you have to jump back to that point to figure out a bit more. But it is figure outable. You can do it.

Sure it’s frustrating to have to restart, and the amount of stuff going on makes it harder to figure out the patterns…but there are patterns.

It’s not like people aren’t on these forums every day asking for harder content.

Please read what his actual problem is.

1. World 1 has 4 players killing 1 player from World 2. How much points in World 1 awarded with?

2. A guy from World 1 dies to World 2 NPCs, whithout a player touching him. What happens?

3. A guy from World 1 dies to World 2 NPCs, but someone from World 2 previously ‘tagged’ him. What happens?

4. A guy from World 1 dies to World 2 NPCs, but someone from World 3 previously ‘tagged’ him. What happens

5. A guy from World 1 dies to neutral NPCs (wolves), what happens?

6. A guy jumps off a cliff and dies. What happens?

7. A player from World 1 and World 2 are killing a player from World 3 together. Who is awarded with points?

8. World 1 and World 2 are having a massive blob fight. An elementalist from World 3 casts meteor shower in the middle of the fight then scurries away. Who is awarded with what?

I have guesses for most of these, but I want to be sure.

Angry players (WvW)

Bubi.7942

I’m probably not the only one who has noticed this trend in angry whispers from players (in WvW)…

(…)
Anyway, I assume this is the same case with the rise of the d/d cele ele too – people take this build expecting to be able to beat anyone, therefore getting mad kitten when they don’t. This is something I really, really dislike about the community. It unveils quite a toxic vein of people who play the game.

The problem is not the players, they are just using the game mechanics, Anet gave that mentality to the players with their game balance.

Oh wow. You can blame Anet for a lot of things but “giving people their mentality” is a bit strong. You are aware that Anet is not people’s parents/peers/genetical ancestors right?

Does Labyrinth tier affect loot?

in Living World

Posted by: Bubi.7942

Bubi.7942

People aren’t getting labyrinth to tier 3 anymore…

I noticed this as well. It happens when not all 5 breach bosses are defeated, thus people are not getting the big key, and have less incentive to enter the labyrinth. They rather just jump to the next breach in another map (for mordrem organs I guess?).

Try to get in a map / organize a map that kills all 5 and labyrinth will be full.

As for the original question: as far as I know tier doesn’t affect loot.

Silverwastes vs Dry Top - Rewards done better

Bubi.7942

Altough this is way off topic, I’ll awnser this.

Ok, how can I be wrong if I hadn’t even stated anything? I don’t even…

Anyway. Not sure even where to begin. First of all, there are a lot of topics discussing Dry top, best to consult those for advice on how to do it. But let’s begin:

You do know that htere is also a PvP reward track for Dry Top as well right? With a fossil at the end and lots of geodudes on the way?

Also, not wanting to insult, but getting 60 geodes (and not getting above t4 at all) is not the map’s fault, but solely yours. Use the LFG tool, know the events, you know, actually know what you are doing. DT rewards effort you put in.

“But Bubi, no one organizes DT!” – well organize it yourself then. We just had one yesterday, reached t6 like every single week, got my 300 geodudes, exchanged it for 25 g profit (+champ bags etc.).

The formula really is very simple:
SW → requires little organization → smaller rewards
DT → requires more organiation → bigger rewards

I hope that helps.

Ps.:
It seems you fail to understand what the thread was about. I don’t give squat about bandit crests or how many you need, it was about the redundantness of “2 blues and a green” and nothing to look forward to. Which current patch has adressed with the minies, tonics etc. Kind of, but can’t really hope for better.

Bubi.7942

It is very clear what you have to do, the instances make use of the basic teach mechanic 1 teach mechanic 2 then implement both into the boss fight. Prior knowledge is not needed as they are two new mechanics. To elaborate:

First 2 guards: Oh we were detected because we were in the field of sight and they turned hostile:
Lesson 1: LOS breaks stealth allows killing of guards

Lone guard: Guards can be knocked out from behind, switches can be interacted with:
Lesson 2: Guards can be knocked out from behind without detection

Room 1 : Implementation of the first two mechanics

Room 2: Golem, you try to interact with a switch, golem comes towards it:
Lesson 3: Golems are attracted to switch noises, Golems can detect you.

Room 3: Implementation of the mechanics just taught.

Boss room:
Stage 1: Get behind and hit while avoiding as taught on guard 3.
Cutscene Explains shield, shows shield being knocked out by generator to clue you in.
bonus for people who played silverwastes it’s the same mechanic Gold and Silver use.
Stage 2: Destroy one ahead of him (If it weren’t enough to clue you in they also show an icon above the one you should destroy).
Stage 3: Switches are now intractable, golems have appeared….hmmm sounds like room2, interact with switch in front of the one ahead of him ,golem leaves post, blow up generator, hit target.

Even if you completely fail to understand all the mechanics you can still complete it easily because you can just kill him if you break stealth. So it is pretty fool proof.
There is currently one glitch that locks your skills out but that has nothing to do with the mechanics of the instance.

This.

Stop crying and pay attention.

I actually got my third glove box out of one of the Lost Bandit chests. So you don’t have to set a single foot into the Labyrinth if you don’t want to. You can farm up the 1000 crests and get it that way, or try your hand at the buried chests.

2000 chrests on gloves.
2000 – chest
2000 – leggins
2000 – boots
2000 – helm

farm farm farm MORE farm for the God of Farm. Dont you think that you should have more time to play and not to grind ? Its like you can spent some time with your friends but “NO! Silver Wastes and chrest farm avaits!” … just like that.

Pathetic.

I think you got some issues man. Take a break. Enjoy time with family and friends, you don’t have to do it.

Once you cool off, you could look in the numerous threads already on this:

- You can get it from bandit chests
- You can get it as event rewards
- You can get it from Greater nightmare chest
- You can get it from PvP track
- You can buy it for 1000 crests + 1 g

Notes:

- You get bandit crests from the Story
- You get bandit crests from the achievments
- You get bandit crests for extracted mordrem parts (which you do anyway for the skin)
- You have infinite time to do it (well, until servers are shut down or you cease to exist)

Toughts on why Story doesn’t give that anymore:

- I think it was not intended at the first time either, it was simply an oversight (compare price with how “hard” it is to get from story)
- Was unfair to players who do not have 80 alts
- Decreased incentive to actually play the zone

Hope that clears things up.

Ok. It seems you guys are missing the OPs point completely. Or it might be that I’m missing it.

OP doesn’t seem to give … anything about what a Labyrinth is, nor does he care about semantics (even tough his post seems to be about that).

He is saying that a map, with pinging red lights kinda takes out the whole point of a labyrinth, cause you know, you can’t really get lost cause you have the map. The point of a labyrinth in any other game is to get you lost, here the point is … ?

Anyway. I kind of agree, if they would just disable the mini-map during the Labyrinth, and you’d just have to find your allies (during the story) with them yelling would create a much better atmosphere, and would provide a unique (at least for this game so far) challalnge.

Sidenote: Same goes for Ice fractal, teleportation during first boss and dark woods. Would make more sense whitout a mini-map no?

Sad thing is, what I pointed out in my comment above, that even with mini-map, pings, and every other possible handholding people still manage to get lost and rage quit cause it’s “too frustrating”. See other threads, lots of ranting about it.

So once again, a would have been good content ruined by the “everybody must win!!!!” attittude.

It only took me 5 hours trying over and over to get the illusions on a good RNG and be meaningfull while using a particular trait else they would die. Reasons :

  • Terragriff has some damaging aura wrecking everything melee range
  • His cleave on “stand still and pulse tendrils” kills the phantasms
  • Phantasms try to be in range and thus will attack only when they are in melee range, meaning they will hug the boss and suicide.
  • Terragriff runs in a random pattern accros the room, this seconds the range issue on melee phantasms (1). Moreover, terragriff will randomly kill your phantasms by rushing over them without any logical reason as aggro or proximity (2).
  • Terragriff takes off and lands randomly near his rush end position, the landing deals damage and kills phantasms
  • Phantasms have a value expressed in “damage/duration/cooldown”; in this fight their value depends on RNG (randomly generated numbers, positions of the boss).

Now, remember Hidden Arcana? Here you can’t deny that clones and phantasms die on summon.

Second fight, phantasms are useless even with the trait. Had to use Consummable summons. What is your take on that?

A finally we arrived at Hidden Arcana, I was waiting for this.

My take on that: I agree.

The boss (tbh I didn’t take a look at the video but I’m guessing it’s the color facet) had an aura that damaged everything in it, instantly killing illusions. That is very much true, I noticed that as well. I might add, it was probably an oversight, as I used Mistfire wolf in that fight as an elite, and that somehow got the same buff as me (color buff) and so it didn’t die.

Whatever the reason, that sucked.

But as much as it sucked, it took 1 more round going in and cleaving at it, so I didn’t make much of a fuss about it, I handled it with a “meh, who cares”. Probably would have gotten my interest if it would have been a remotely challenging fight.

If you want to rant about that, you have a point, go on, maybe Anet next time won’t be so sloppy and test it better.

But for the fights in the current LS, none of that holds true. Your very own video proves that (which you spent 5 hours making? really? my condolences… I have no idea why anyone would do that). Your clones live, phantasms live, they attack not even once, end of story. Whining about the boss has AoE attacks and that it moves is just silly.

What you call RNG is what I call smart use of skills (for instance not summoning phantasms when huge AoE is up), if you just spam all your skills as soon as they are up whitout second tought, that’s RNG. Or no, that’s not RNG, that’s just bad play.
If it actually made you think about when and how to use your skills, swap weapons or change traits, that’s a welcomed fight in an otherwise very static enviroment.

Why does the mesmer need such a strong weakness in PvE then?

What is the weakness of warriors?
What is the weakness of the guardian?
The thief? And so on.

Can you find anything comparable to the mesmers weakness?
Is there any benefit if you outplay the weakness? Like doing way more damage than the other classes?

This argument is flawed. If other professions do not have such a weakness, why it is ok for the mesmer to have it, even though there is no real benefit if you overcome it, but just being on par?

What you are describing here are balance ‘issues’. There are thousands of threads on it in the Class, PvP and WvW sections on it. Suming that up, is a task beyond me, but I will give it a go:

Without going into calculations I will take the educated guess that a mesmer with 3 Phantasms active is most likely the highest single target damage (3 duelists + mesmer AA > warrior AA). That is the benefit of the mesmer. If you manage to maintain 3 phantasms throught the fight, you will outdamage any enemy (given equal ground meaning – traits, gear, might stacks etc). That is far from “on par”.

All classes have weaknesses, and as I mentioned above, hit up the thousands of threads about this if you want to go in detail, excuse me if I try to be done with it with 2-3 words:

Mesmer → relies on AI
Ele → Low survivability
Necro → Slow
Engie → Does everything, but never does anything as good as other classes
Ranger → is Ranger
Thief → Low survivability
Guardian → Support, low damage
Warrior → Well… altough many posts will claim has no weaknesses, thus it’s the most OP class (which is somewhat true), it is fairly predictable and kiteable, however that only is a weakness in competitive enviroment, no wonder dungeon groups need “FULL ZERK 10k+ AP WARR GEAR OR KICK”

And all this would make sense/have a meaning, if OPs claims would be ture. Which they are not.

@Kaiyanwan:
Switching tactics is a valid thing in video games. Also, I think illusions were not meant to be permanent.

But you think that illusions – a classes mechanic which is affecting at least two of this professions weapon skills at any given time – were meant to be instantly destroyed at the moment they are created is OK. That the player has to get creative on when to trick the encounter so those skills are actually working, or avoiding those skills if possible?
No profession without pets has to fight the encounter and its own mechanics to be successful. And while I can run my necro without pets and be efficient, the mesmer has been designed around using his illusions with any playstyle they decide on. You cannot play a mesmer without illusions and be effective. And therefore those encounters become a chore.

Noone wants illusions to be permanent, people ask to make them actually be of the same usefulness as other weapon skills.

Kitten, run those missions on a warrior and tell me you have to change your playstyle for success.

Don’t go into hyperbole-land please. I never said that illusions “instantly destroyed at the moment they are created is OK”. It is OP who said that this is the case. Now OP apperantly has even provided a video in which we can clearly see, his claim is false, untrue, a fib, a fiction. His phantasm/clones attack 3-4 times before dying. His claim is that they die before they can attack. What more is there to say?

Mesmers weakness is that his illusions are vulnarable, and you are strongly relying on them. No where is 60%+ of your damage gone (again, OPs claim). You simply have to deal with your class’ weakness, and rethink your startegy.

@Yamiga:
No, I had no idea.

All the better cause then he is basicly contradicting himself. The phantasms/clones clearly attack multiple times in the video, while OP claims in the first post that they “explode on summon”.

Fine, here you go, it’s actually pretty easy when you know what to do

It seems like this guy in his video somehow manages to keep his clones and phantasms alive for 3-4 attacks. From the kill time I’m guessing he’s on zerkerish build.

So what was the problem again OP?

@spoj:
The OPs point is the bosses are using a new mechanic called: AoE. I can’t for the life of me think of a Living Story boss that has not done this. He also seems to be ‘pro’ in dungeons where bosses hit like wet noodle. I’m guessig that is where the issue lies.
