Valor already had defensive/heals/crit damage/some crit chance based off of toughness.

After that you had 40 more points to put somewhere.

MF is ok on burst healing, but not so much on sustained. Short duration fights and skirmishes with a healing over time of about 90-110 hp per second?

AH provided potential 70ish – 350 hp per second depending on how many people are around you. Or if you have hammer and empowering might it would be 2 boons per second times 5 people that could be something like 700 healing per second…IF you are in a zerg.

So AH provides better self sustain in groups, MF is giving us a little more burst while solo I guess.

Same trait line so easy to flip between.

That said, we already HAD that. So again, I feel the change is nominal at most. 20% more crit chance when in a build that already stacks crit chance to at least 40% if not 50-60%.

The damage will go up a little bit, but the sustain didn’t change for that build…a build that we are ALREADY using….so much for build diversity.

If they had improved the base heal per second of VoR, writ of the merciful, or even zealous blade, that would have been an interesting change that would inspire build diversity. Or even something completely off the wall that we haven’t seen before that I couldn’t fathom at this time.

What they did is give us what we already have with a nice new wrapper and somehow we are happy with it.

Late in the commenting game, but I disagree with this. There are some builds that could use a damage boosting (Virtues imo) that when you invest into them heavily, you end up gimping your dps.

Same coin, different sides.

Trying to clarify:

We give up too much damage to go defensive, or we give up too much defense to go offensive.

Either give offensive guardians better sustain, or give defensive guardians better damage?……or maybe both?

@timidobserver
I guess my issue is that it isn’t really going to make an impact and I feel a minor change if anything… I admit I could be wrong, but those are just my initial feelings.

10% burning, 10% conditions
10% if low on energy
OR
9% with full boons on and another 20% if aegis is on.

So either potential 30% burning/conditions/energy
or
49% burning/conditions/full boons/aegis.

Power is helpful but power by itself is not damage, you need crit chance, damage modifiers, and crit damage to make direct damage more intimidating.

Vitality by itself has proven to not be enough by the early builds of warriors. They had the highest HP pool, yet bad survivability, due to no good way to replenish the HP pool and less ways to clear conditions.

Since then they have received good condition removal and HP sustain and are doing much better.

Condition damage is arguable on guardians. Yes burning does high damage, but it does high “slow” damage. That with the fact that we only have one source of condition damage, precludes a lot of players from finding good use in condition damage on guardians.

It is not useless, just not as useful as other forms of builds.

Thanks for the update to the typo. We were all pretty sure that is what you meant, but helps to clear things up.

I am still not sold on if offensive guardian’s were missing fury and that is what is going to make them better. I was under the impression that we gave up too much to go offensive based on the low HP pool, and lack of healing/defensive stats while going offensive.

A change to enhance sustainability while being offensive I think would have been a more welcome change, but I think we will just have to wait and see how this change pans out.

Giving high crit damage and higher crit chance in one trait line is nice though.

For the guardian change, is the fury supposed to be on Monk’s Focus or Focused Mind? Focused Mind was the one that made meditations instant, so it would make more sense for that one to be updated.

Focused Mind. Sorry about the mistype.

And now from my real acount. Focused Mind, not Monks Focus. Thanks all. Jonathan is editing the OP.

Just for clarity.

About 3 hours later, no respawn. I am satisfied with the answer that the first half of w2/z3 does not respawn.

Second half, is easier to test as you can back track that half if need be. So I will not bother to test that section… Just wanted to give piece of mind that we didn’t have to finish the zone in a required amount of time and that we could back track to the second half to pick up any possible respawns and not completely fail the achievement if slow.

I just was clarifying that it does not matter if it is focused mind or monks focus, the discussion is if fury will be that crucial to guardian offensive capability or not.

My opinion is no, that crit chance/crit damage is not what we were missing to make offensive guardians better.

Popular opinion seems to be that giving us fury is amazing and cool.

edit:

Unscathed contender is gimicky in pvp, pve thats fine it is a reliable update to damage for some fights. Again pvp or pve is the other side to clarify.

Guys, it’s a typo. I more than sure that Sharp meant to write Focused Mind instead of Monk’s Focus.
Currently Focused Mind makes all meditations into instant casts, which will become redundant once the change hits. Meaning that when traited, meditations will now heal and grant the user Fury. Yes!

Regardless, putting fury in that trait line and making meditation guardians have access to decent crit rating is what is being discussed. If you are going for meditations you are going to get MF anyway and then you can pick up shorter meds and/or now fury meds.

Also I think a crucial question is….how long is the fury boon last for? 3-5 seconds per meditation used?

Can we maintain a high uptime with it, or is it nominal.

Again, clarify if pvp or pve. PvE you probably don’t need monks focus or meditations at all. Healing is not an issue if you are going full zerker and trying to kill something as fast as possible.

PvP on the other hand, you want some sort of sustain. So MF helps keep you fighting a few more hits, and self sustain becomes crucial.

Also, good point Obtena with the crit dmg + crit rating in one line.

Still I don’t think fury/damage is what we were missing on offensive guardians.

While fury on guardian is welcome, I don’t feel this is the answer to some of the problems offensive guardians had.

PvE there wasn’t much issue as you could reliably dodge when needed versus bosses.

PvP it was an issue of survivability due to low hp and low healing while having offensive stats and damage set up (can’t lock a target down and hard to chase reliably)

For defensive guardian’s there wasn’t too much of an issue, you just sit there and take it, but more damage while being defensive would have been nice.

Good change yes, but not sold on if it is a revolutionary change yet. Will see when it happens if we are taken to a new place on capabilities or not.

I just feel like we ask for one thing and are given something completely different. So there is a seeming disconnect with the devs and us players. Maybe they know better than us? Maybe not.

We knew we were support oriented, but didn’t think we were that pigeon holed

I like the idea that purging flames removes 3 on cast, instead of one and then having to run in and out of it, the condition duration while in it is ok I guess, not huge.

meditations giving fury I don’t think is going to be as crucial is it sounds. High crit chance was never really an issue for guardians.

Class balance:
Guardian
We increased the power of many support skills which weren’t seeing much play. We reworked Purging Flames: it now removes three conditions from allies in an area effect around the guardian on cast while still burning enemies (enemies that enter or exit the flames are still burned). Once the skill has been cast, it then reduces condition duration for allies who remain in the consecration’s area. It’s hawt. Literally. All meditation utility skills are now instant, and monks focus now grants fury on meditation use.

So we got more condition control (yay?)
Also getting a more reliable Fury source (yay?)

Question is, will it still give healing, will the fury make offensive guardian more viable in pvp? (pve is fine, just dodge roll when you need)

I still feel our damage isn’t what the issue was, but survivability outside of AH or full healing power scenarios is what needed to be addressed. Again pvp oriented not pve.

Or better setup/control to do said damage, could have been looked at too.

lag also interrupts the sync of this, so even if you have a macro that does both jump and dodge at the same time, it may not register one or the other commands.

Add ontop of that what MithranArkanere said, it makes it an iffy move. Most of the time I can produce this with about an 80% success rate, so its not bad, but annoying when it doesn’t go.

Why is no one playing? We got what we came for and are done.

Before, the baubles could be used to purchase legendary crafting items, so you had some people farming that, and also farming to get skins to sell.

The levels are too long/difficult to farm now I guess for the average person, but I appreciated the advancement in the challenges.

What's currently the highest dps build?

in Guardian

Posted by: CMF.5461

CMF.5461

It is “supposed” to be the dps off hand.

- Provides frontal condition removal
- Burning on up to 3 melee range targets
- Minor burst attacks

Problem is, it is usually a dps loss to cast any of those things unless you are using mace.

Sword you are better off with auto attack and scepter just cycle 1 and 2 on cooldown, 3 is pretty quick and provides vulnerability so it shouldn’t hurt to use that too.

Best reason to use torch is burning to apply 10% from conditions and/or burning. IF you need that.

Your other options are shield which is purely defensive and focus, which is a sort of mix of offensive and defensive but still more defensive than torch.

The 3 block is nice as it has no cast time and wont interrupt auto attacks while helping to provide blocks that allow you to take the next 3 hits to maintain dps.

What's currently the highest dps build?

in Guardian

Posted by: CMF.5461

CMF.5461

torch does not burn self….no fury, well known since beginning of time.

stopping to cast focus 4 would probably be a dps loss, not worth it for the blind/vulnerability, focus 5 is ok, but not a huge dps gain because of the length of cooldown outweighs to burst is can do.

Torch 4 secondary cast is at least useable on a frequent enough cooldown to contribute to the fight, but cast time on that one too, so unsure if its a gain or loss.

Common pronunciation of Aztec words break down the name as thus:

Healing and you

in Guardian

Posted by: CMF.5461

CMF.5461

For the sake of just looking at guardian heals for now cause I had it on a spread sheet already. What I did is take the value of the heal and divided it by the cooldown time. If this is a problem go ahead and let me know if a better way to figure heal per second please.

This is only trying to factor in cooldown time and not cast time/animation time…NOT EXACT!!!.

Monk’s Focus I based on a Smite Condition 20 second cooldown.

Writ of the Merciful I was assuming 100% symbol uptime with something like hammer, but there will realistically be small gaps between hammer symbol and larger ones in mace, staff, and greatsword.

Pure of Heart we are just considering a 40 second refresh on virtue of courage to proc aegis.

Altruistic Healing I based on a 1 boon a second to 1 person and 1 boon a second to 5 people. Yes you could activate multiple boons a second with crits and symbols and so forth, but just trying to keep it simple.

Again, this is just trying to take a glance at things at face value and see what it looks like on the surface level to see if there are any interesting trends that are worth looking more in depth to.

Skill Name – Heal Per Second
300 healing power

  • Writ of the Merciful – 130
  • Pure of Heart – 18.225
  • Zealous Blade – 25
  • Altruistic Healing – 72 (360 if with 5 people) minimum of 1 group boon per second, could be more depending on setup
  • Monk’s Focus – 104
  • Virtue of Resolve – 102
  • Improved VoR – 127.5
  • Faithful Strike – 194.5
  • Regeneration – 168
  • Shield of Absorption – 34
  • Selfless Daring – 42.9 (85.8 with vigor)
  • Sanctuary – 2.341666667
  • Empower – 90

1710 healing power

  • Writ of the Merciful – 235
  • Pure of Heart – 27.05
  • Zealous Blade – 25
  • Altruistic Healing – 86 (430 if with 5 people)
  • Monk’s Focus – 132.2
  • Virtue of Resolve – 187
  • Improved VoR – 233.75
  • Faithful Strike – 321.5
  • Regeneration – 344
  • Shield of Absorption – 41.05
  • Selfless Daring – 183.9 (367.8 with vigor)
  • Sanctuary – 2.933333333
  • Empower – 160.5

Stand at least half way away from him when you reflect the palm attack, run away. Shouldn’t have to dodge the first one.

Second rush keep running away and as he gets closer dodge into him and keep running past, typically he keeps going past you a bit and you buy some distance.

Sometimes a third pass at you requires a dodge as well and sometimes you can just out run him.

A few times he will do a fourth pass, and I don’t have an answer for that one, but it is not typical.

Awesome, I’m really glad you are continuing at experimenting with this. I put it on hold as I have been doing SAB and doing more thinking about healing capabilities and how to better intigrate them into builds while balancing damage with it.

I do see what you mean about how the high regen ticks help augment the meditation heals by filling in the gaps in healing.

Thieves are a hard class to lock down and maintain damage, so I don’t know if having more burst hits would help or more healing, but you held your own against two thieves, that third one jumping in kind of sealed the deal.

You could have used up renewed focus and bought yourself some more time for maybe a shelter and let symbols tick, but yeah, wasn’t expecting a whole lot versus 3 thieves.
