Wow. I thought OP was posting the oft-seen arguments for and against…not his own opinions. I guess I’m slow. Lol.
Rebut him, that’s what the forums are for. If you think there are better pros/cons or the list is just insufficient, speak up.
That goes for anyone. Don’t just say “he’s biased,” show everyone why you feel that way.
As for the list and summary, great work OP! Best I’ve seen so far.
Peace.
I get so discouraged coming to this forum and seeing so many ungrateful and unrealistic “veteran” players talking about how the sky is falling and how GW2 is dying.
The sky isn’t falling, and GW2 is far from dying.
I’ve been playing since launch, I log in nearly every day for hours at a time, and I sometimes spend full weekends in GW2. And I’m still having a blast, no matter what part of the game (Dry Top, Silverwastes, PvP, WvW havok, etc.) I’m doing at any given time.
Everyone plays the game different, that has to be expected, but I agree!
Raids would be nice, and additional dungeons (based on the current living story) and Fractals (based on previous living stories) would also be great, but I’m managing expectations so as not to be disappointed when we don’t immediately see them. And by the grace of Kormir, I wish they’d fix the Personal Story that they broke. >_<
Again just a thought but how about dungeons based on LS1 content? Marionette and toxic tower seem to be perfect bases for this kind of content and would allow some to experience what they might have missed.
But otherwise, I see all these people who are just so dissatisfied, and I have to wonder, is there any possible way of pleasing these folks?
Now, if you want to know what it looks like to see an actual sky falling, go to the ArcheAge forums.
Read those and have the game DL’d but the game just feels too basic and typical for my tastes. I was interested in land ownership till I found out how they really boofed the “lower class” players that won’t fork over real money to play. Much prefer how GW2 does things even if I can’t have a private house in DR. :P
Peace.
I’m talking about end-game content, such as revisited version/iterations of Fissure of Woe, Underworld, Urgoz’s Warren, The Deep, etc. That was end-game content. It required skill, knowledge and a good cooperative team to execute successfully.
What we have right now is fractals (which some people get bored of very easily) and not even a hard mode for dungeons. Just because you have two new L80 zones which are getting thinner by the day (yes I’ve seen it happen for myself) which are LS-invoked hardly qualifies it as veteran content.
This made me think about the whole “hard mode” thought process. What came to me was there is a hard mode in this game which hadn’t occurred to me. Maybe it has for others but I’ve never been one to play a game on hard mode (a generally die that much faster so …) but since others have maybe it’s obvious to them. In a nut shell: under equip your character. I know some play “naked” in game but that’s like ultra hard mode I’d think. Why not just equip armor and weapons under the level of the dungeon? Even just do it in greens or blues and not exotics.
Just thinking about this the game really does allow you more flexibility than I think most recognize.
Peace.
To all the casuals speaking like “We happy you go away”:
Hardcore players are as much customers as you are and they deserve as much consideration as you. No hardcore player here has once stated “stop making LS and focus on hardcore content only”, it’s rightful to demand something that will appeal them -us- as well. Because…if you were the minority in the game and devs were only adding uber hard content which would be doable by hardcore players only, you would be as frustrated and concerned.
Yes you are as much a customer as anyone else.
However in almost every thread like this one it’s always “current content s’cks so please refocus on us hardcore/veteran players that you seem to hate because we are the ones that spend all the gold in the game, not those part time casual players” statements that betray the real mind set of the poster.
Maybe you are different and want Anet to focus on all things but that’s not what I’m getting from the OP.
Not to mention that most of the casual players I have met so far (quite over 50 between guilds and friend list) either have quit the game or constantly complain the game lacks content…
It did and tbh it needs more but Anet seems to be hearing that and working on it. Those people that have left well I can’t speak for them but I’ve been out here since the start (missed beta) and I have yet to find a lack of content. Thing is I didn’t power through things but just organically explored the world. I worked up several characters and enjoy them all. Perhaps your friends did the same thing that others seem to do, i.e. hammer through the game as fast as possible. Again I wouldn’t know but the difference between them and players like me seem to say that there are many others that still play for the enjoyment of the game itself. Go figure.
What I personally want to see is: more dungeons, more fractals, more hard content that doesn’t require 560000 people led by 400 commanders in which each person will have to spam either skill 1 or skill 2 repeatedly to get sand as reward. I’m bored of spending 1 hour refreshing LFG open world section to find a decent SW.
I agree. more would always be nice. They do need to expand and/or refresh the dungeons. PvP and WvW as well need some serious work. Fractals I can’t speak to as I’m still getting into them.
As for your issue with SW, lead don’t follow. Go on a map and do a call to arms. Pop a tag if you have it or just get a few to do it. That is the best way to build a good map. I’ve found that using LFG for Silverwastes is hit and miss.
Plus, Tequatl difficult? Really? Well, for people unable to read and turn what they read into action no doubt. 3-wurm same, after the third time beating it I realized the real challenge in that group event is to end up in a map where it is organized, since not even TS in GW2community can ensure you’ll manage to find a spot in the right map before it gets full.
Okay here I have to point out that every person that calls for vet/HC content complain that nothing takes a lot of work. Well the above does take a lot of work. Those same people would do veteran content over and over again so why not the same for Teq? Challenging content is still challenging so you can’t just dismiss it to serve your argument. That’s being hypocritical.
Failure should always be an option whether it’s do to organizational or skill failure. You can’t want mega content that is a push over and doesn’t require real work.
Peace.
No thanks. PvP and PvE should remain separate … just like it is now.
Peace..
Seeing as the decline of gw2 is slowly heading towards having nothing to do endgame ….
{snip}
… what i am trying to say here give people something impossible to do.
So 2-3 impossible for ANYONE to solo world events is not enough for you?! How many would make you happy? 10? 20 One per week for how long?
For such a small segment of the community I just don’t see Anet doing that.
Im not even asking for much, just this one thing, try to divide your teams to what catters that % of actuall players. just to keep everyone happy. Because i know im not the only one whos bored as bleep and have 0 to no reason to repeat the content ive repeated for over a year now.
But you see, it’s only to keep you and the very few like you happy. The rest of us are pretty happy already. Growing world, new harder content, new rewards, and more on the way. Map could get expanded a bit faster but it’s a minor point. I see people get constantly downed in SW so I know it’s not a push over and I’ve only been part of one full map win since it came out. The team work needed is fun and refreshing.
To stop all that and focus on some ubber boss so you can get super shinies just doesn’t make much sense. Plus it’s already been tried and is in the process of failing … hard. It’s called Wildstar.
Maybe you should really get back out and play the game instead of sitting in LA all sad and QQ.
Peace.
GW1 maps were very small and simple compared to GW2 maps. You can’t expect the same schedule at in GW2 for map releases and especially if their main focus isn’t necessarily in pumping out new maps.
Agreed and they were often very linear. There was no going in whatever direction you wanted to, you had to follow the “paths” as laid out in the map. Prophecies was was not as bad but it started getting worse and this was especially true with EotN maps.
Peace.
Yeah, it really doesn’t matter if a WP is close by, I’ve noticed. Players will lay there dead and ask for a res if there’s an ongoing event.
My only issue is how people actually pause and let you go to defeated instead of helping when you are just down. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen and experienced this. Rezing someone from defeated takes way longer than if they are just down.
As for me, I’ll wait a bit to see if a rez is possible but if people are dropping all around me I don’t want their deaths on my conscious. So I just waypoint and run back. Simple world boss rules in effect in my opinion.
Peace.

The Keeps in GW2 are simply too large to defend, but why bother anyway? Avoiding enemy players is far more rewarding in terms of efficiency.
Player versus Objective. It’s not WvW PvP, it’s PvO
So wait … CtF (which the above is a version of) is not PvP or WvW?!
You might want to tell that to Call of Duty, and EVERY other FPS out on the market.
Capturing and holding a keep is conceptually the same as capturing a flag. If you’re railing against that I would argue you are not a PvP player … at all in any form.
Peace.
This is not a critique, post. I’m intending this as a question. “Is Guild Wars 2 beginning to feel like it is in a severe decline?”
TLDR: No, it feels more vibrant than ever.
Here’s my reasoning behind the question:
We’re getting new maps now, but we’re not actually seeing any improvement to the game as a whole. Yes, the game is maintained, but that’s not to say improved or expanded upon. Guild Wars 1 was released in 2005, Factions 2006, Nightfall 2006, and Eye of the North 2007.
I just want to define an “expansion”: where in that you have to buy the original game to use it. By that definition:
Factions == standalone game, not an expansion but did tie into Prophecies if you had it.
Nightfall == standalone game, not an expansion but did tie into Prophecies and/or Factions if you had it.
Eye of the North == expansion, could not be used if you didn’t have one (or more) of the proceeding games.
By this reasoning there was only one true expansion, and it came out 2 years after the original game. I know many will disagree but it’s simple fact.
By comparison Guild Wars 2 has released…
…
EotM
Ascended Weapons and Armor (debatable if that was great but meh, I’m ok with it)
40 new Traits
16 new skills (all healing though)
Living Story 1 – epic battle and environment changing results (ah how I remember the green forested hills of Kessex Hills and the beauty of Lions Arch at night!)
Living Story 2 – 1 new area that is constantly expanding, new loot and shinies.
Tons of new achievements for vet players to unlock (some a bit easier than others)
Feature Pack (ok, NPE is 50/50, other changes can be argued but it IS an addition to the game)
I’m probably missing some, these are just off the top of my head.
Personally I hope their next big push is for PvP and WvW. They really need to refresh those areas of the game. I’m mostly a PvE player and even I know something needs to be done for those parts of the game. The addition of a PvP only armor skin tract is a good start but it’s only a start, more serious work needs to be done.
So there’s a bit of a discrepancy here. Each expansion of Guild Wars 1 produced distinct new lands and new armors entirely unique to that expansion. With those came new character models, new classes, and new skills. By comparison, Guild Wars 2 has produced…
… a few token armor models: most you have to purchase via gem store
{snip}
This is somewhat more important as Guild Wars 2 released Gem Store items that were only relevant to playing in the Super Adventure Box. Effectively, removing the thing from future content is like scamming your players. “Buy this item so you can play more in this content!” …“We removed the content, ha-ha!”
Okay, we get it you have an issue with them earning a living. The business model of in game purchases instead of charging $40 a head for the same in a box just rubs you the wrong way. Okay we get it. It’s not like they are selling level ups, I mean who would do that … oh right, Blizzard. Where you can go to level 90 for the cheap price of $60.
Yeah, I’ll pass and keep this a good game that isn’t P2W like WoW has just become.
{snip a bunch of really worthless fodder}
So… At this point I feel the game has gone no-where long enough. It’s time to ask the question, “Is this game heading for its grave?”
Anyone else feeling the severe sense of decline?
Reading through this all was like wading through a cesspool. Yeah had the hip waders on but the smell!!!
Either you are a shill or just have never really played the game (isn’t that the same?) and just compiled your info from the wikis. Saying it over and over is not going to make it true. GW2 is busier that I’ve ever seen it. More needs to be done for sure but heading to the grave?! Dying?! Nope not seeing it.
Many may disagree and as I said PvP and WvW need serious help, but I’m happy with how GW2 is evolving.
Peace.
When you want to disengage just click on the ground to de-target
I think that is incorrect. It de-highlights the current target but the targeting is still there. The reason I say this is that when attacking and you try to select something 2-5 but due to range or LoS block you accidentally target a friendly the auto attack seems to continue.
The only way I know of to fully disengage is to press ESC. Sometimes you have to quick spam it due to attack timing. Binding the ESC to a mouse button (if you have a gaming mouse) would work I should think.
Peace.
Like so many other things in this game, waypoints are illogical. Each waypoint is part of a network of waypoints, all interconnected, but one can only travel to the waypoints one has personally discovered. How does that make sense? Why should one have to find a specific waypoint before one can use it?
[snip]
I submit to you, fellow forumites, that waypoints, as implemented, were a mistake that render any semblance of exploration in this game pointless and silly.
Sorry but you invalidated all your points by on the one hand asking why you can’t use a waypoint till you find it and then saying exploration is pointless. You explore in the game to find hearts, POIs, areas of the map and WAYPOINTS!
Waypoints are the “mounts” of GW2. Therefore there is no reason for additional mounts with outrageous speed bonuses. You can get from one side of Tyria to the other, and everywhere in between, in the blink of an eye. From there use the class speed buffs for that “last mile” sprint.
Peace.
Big fan of mounts, reduce the amount of WP add mounts. GW2 would have kept more players and brought new ones into the game if we had mounts.
Absolute rubbish.
Hardly, I will let the genre for the last 10years speak for itself.
This game has an alternet system in place that makes having mounts irrelevant. This doesn’t make this game better, or the other games with mounts better, it’s just different. Waypoints, and not mounts, were the designers vision for this game, and they did an excellent job of brining that vision to life. Mounts weren’t exluded on accident. This was on purpose.
^^THIS^^
Well said and +1.
Peace.
sigh
This subject again. No mounts. They aren’t needed. For those that are already complaining that GW2 seems to be “dumbing” things down for players I’d think you’d fight tooth and nail against this. There are speed buffs in the game, players need to learn to use them.
Ideal for Silverwastes. That place is unbearable without speed skills. I doubt the game has the scale though. It wouldn’t ‘fit in’, like that other MMO which it does like a glove.
Unbearable? Hardly. I often play a Guardian which happens to have the worst temp speed buffs in the game. Still I have no problem getting from camp to blue in under 2 min (if I just skip the garbage mobs maybe 1 min) so no, no need for any more waypoints till they expand the map more. Now if only people would come help me defend the place. :P
Peace.
Are we still discussing this? Any final determinations if not?
Peace.
I had a detailed response to the OP but then I just looked and it filled me with heart crushing, shattering sadness that he even posted.
He is so wrong in his post and his points are so full of inaccuracies that I have lost faith in him even understanding the game he purports to have played since beta. (which I doubt) To go over each in turn would be way to much of a chore.
Back to the Silverwastes and killing Mordrem!!!
Peace.
p.s. the above was some what in jest (using his over the top verbiage etc.) but ultimately how I feel about the OP. The points he makes are rehashes and for the most part wrong. Play the game or move on, it’s as simple as that.
Screenshots?
Dev name? You’ll just have to take my word for it.
As much as I would like to, I believe the phrase is “screenie or didn’t happen” for a reason.
Just a reminder that posting a Dev chat on the form has a tendency to get the thread locked. So the phrase you use is self defeating.
Edit: I shot a PM off to Gaile asking if she would check for us. We’ll see if we can get a clarification.
I second the hope that she can shed a bit of light on the “not working as intended” claim.
Peace.

That being said and done, I believe a few minor changes here and there are needed – and I mean needed!
- Geodes, Bandit Crests and any future currencies of their type belong in the wallet; not our inventories. Clutter is one thing, but it really does make it a hassle to swap these between characters and causes quite a bit of frustration when you reach tier 6 favour in Dry Top and realise your Geodes are on another character.
Agreed 104%! These should be treated just like dungeon chits and stored in the wallet.
- The same goes for Zephyrite Lockpicks and Bandit Skeleton Keys. We need an account-wide keyring, similar to the wallet; especially if there are plans to add more zones with their own keys (which I hope there are!).
Can’t say I agree with that as they are a consumable and should be linked to a character (i.e. in a bag to use) much like all others like them. Since they stack I can’t see a problem using one slot up for each and if you have more than one stack that’s really your problem.
- Remove Piles of Silky Sand. It’s clutter and a waste of time. Tweak the drop rates a little to make up for the loss of the occasional currency item or key… but we don’t need the sand. If that’s really asking to much, make it so we only need one pile to use them, not ten; then make them ten times as rare – at least this way we won’t have seven of them taking up space.
Again another consumable though tbh I too think it’s an annoying agent for having a small chance at a “drop” but otherwise works fine the way it is so not seeing a need to change it.
- Coin Collector and Lost Badges: let us click on the achievements to open up the respective map and show us the coins/badges we’ve already found – the same goes for any similar future achievements (and possibly ones like Dive Master). Plenty of players just use guides to do these in one go anyway, so it’s not as if it’s trivialising the achievements.
Great idea! Would love to see this!
- Adjust the placement of a few Lost Bandit Chests. I don’t want to ruin anyone’s farm here, but let’s be honest – certain places have an abundance of them while others are left out. Evening this out so all four keeps are just as desirable to defend would be nice. At the very least, either bring some of the further out chests at Amber Sandfall a little closer, so chest farmers actually contribute a bit more; or relocate them to other keeps. Again, I’m fine with people farming; but seeing Lightbringer Osa dying repeatedly with so many players present is a bit annoying.
Game play choice there, I’d say no reason to change. I’d too like to see more people run in for defense, it seems like a no brainer that keeping the base commander alive makes chest farming easier. At the same time though it should be up to the players to determine that. Overall fairly neutral on this idea.
That’s all I’ve got for now, since I genuinely think that these two zones are some of Anet’s finest work; but I feel that these few changes would make them even greater – and I hope everyone else agrees. If anyone’s got any further suggestions, criticisms or the sort – go right ahead.
Yep, they hit this one out of the park! Great new zone and well done events.
Having a blast in The Silverwastes!
Peace.
I respect all of your
wrongopinions, but the very definition of a level is to discern one from the next. If you make them all the same just defeats the purpose
Fixed that for you.
The levels in the game ARE NOT all the same, regardless of your opinion. You refuse to graduate to the next level and take you character(s) to higher levels of the world thus self fulfilling your own argument. This is counter to the game mechanics (in fact all MMO game mechanics) and thus you will likely never understand that staying in the new player zone(s) is NOT playing the full game. It maybe how you want to play and that’s okay but then it cant be used as an argument that the game mechanics are wrong. You are purposely subverting them for your own argument.
I’m done here. Good luck where ever you end up.
Peace.
I don’t know what was said previously, but doesn’t “bug” work in the context of this situation? It wasn’t intended that the animations play during particular moments. They played. That sounds bug-ish to me. (Unless you’re suggesting that their not playing was called a “bug” as if someone thought they should be playing rather than that they were intentionally disabled. That could be a simple matter of misunderstanding, misuse of the word, or miscommunication. It seems rather a minor point to me.
Again, for clarity: Because the animations were not appropriate for the setting, they were disabled. They will be re-enabled when they can operate as intended. We don’t have a timeframe for this at the present time.
Ah so the bug was that the animations were NOT supposed to trigger/run during cut scenes and dialog but were so they were disabled.
Yeah this was definitely a miss-communication as many (most? all?), including my self, thought that the removal was the bug.
As others have said I think it would have been better to simply leave them as is till a proper fix was ready but I can see that keeping things immersion wise on track is important too. Either way you’re going to get complaints. As for me, now that I know why the animations were removed I can except the reasoning and look forward to when they are fixed and returned to the game.
Just don’t take tooooo long okay.
Peace.
To Anet: Is this how the NPE is supposed to work ?
Really?
This has nothing to do with NPE and all to do with a player wanting to walk around in the starter zone(s) and instagib mobs like he is a god. Clear areas by just targeting them from 2000 away since he’s all of level 15.
That he has to do the same events while ignoring the fact that he is in a starter area and should move on. No, he expects to glow like the sun and all the noobs bow to him as some kind of mighty hand of death, since he’s level 15 and all. He shouldn’t be “down leveled” he should be unstoppable and …
Ah the heck with it. I just can’t figure some people out.
Peace.
Been there, done that.
I respect that title as it notes that you really went everywhere in Tyria in GW2. Even to places that it’s dang hard to explore. It took me two years to get it.
Peace.
Scaling players levels down in a game that is centered around leveling up is ridiculous regardless of what anybody says.
STOP. PLAYING. IN. STARTER. AREAS.
Move on to the next level areas and you will see that leveling does matter in GW2.
The defense rests.
Peace.
Whenever i run around the map the green scaling number next to my rank constantly changes a dozen times a minute.. So why do i even have a rank if it means absolutely nothing?
Amongst all the hive-mentality attacks toward my argument, i have seen very few arguments that actually shed light on why this system makes more sense than the traditional the mmo system. Because quite simply it does not.
The system is there so that you are more than sufficiently powerful once you get to a higher level to smack mobs while not gutting the map of all mobs that other players need/want to kill.
This also allows players to join up even though they are highly dis-separate in level. One @ 35 with rare gear will contribute more to killing a vet in a 1-15 zone but his fellows at even lower level will still get a few swings in and thus also get credit for the kill. This is even more in evidence when doing group event together. It’s more about balancing the combat ability (dps/cc/condi/def) between old and new players in the same group/event.
Even at mid range level (i.e. 30-50) you can go on a 1-15 map and 2 shot most things lower than you assuming you have eq. gear and trinkets equipped. I’m sure that should satisfy your need to “lord” it over all the poor nubies. (Seriously? Are you compensating for an inferiority complex or something?)
So far i am level 15 and i have never been exposed to such mindless PVE quests in my entire life. All i have done so far is set traps in the woods, taken care of peoples farms, and escorted an ox shipment repeatedly. Playing this game is torture.
So you are right, i don’t think this game is for me
Only because you refuse to except that you are not lord all and be all of the lower level players. Not only that but you haven’t even done much of the game to be totally honest. Level 15 and still in the starter area is like 5% of the game, at most.
Yeah, this game might not be for you. It’s based on helping, sharing, community, and the joy of killing things whether easy or ubber challenging in various solo and group ways.
Good luck in you next game.
Simplicity helps people get into the game faster. Almost all other MMOs use a level based system to unlock skills. If you don’t believe Anet studied their own data to figure that out and make a determined change to get more players in the game longer, then I don’t think any kind of discussing, number evidence or comparisons, will change our mind.
I think it is more like Anet in personal denial. They could follow the blue print like every other game use from the start.
And now they start making raid CDI.
I like many of the way GW2 is designed. I just hope they put more thoughts on how to expand the game.
I prefer to believe what Anet has said. That the basic foundation needed to be changed to help them to then work on future expansion.
The CDIs are a good example of listening to those here that, though not a true representation of the player base, are a good sounding board. It’s a vocal minority but it’s still a good source of feed back.
I don’t think raids are a bad idea (for example) but Anet should think beyond the boundaries that other MMOs have created.
Peace.
(edited by Castrin.8972)
Shortly after launch, a friend and I were playing and discussing how at long last here was game developed by developers that ‘got it’ and weren’t just a bunch of big mean meanies out to be meaninglessly mean to their hapless, unsuspecting customers. That sentiment did not survive Orr, of course, or the series of joyous updates beginning in November of 2012. The trait system redesign in particular is still dancing quite merrily on the grave of that sentiment.
So, if hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on behavioral studies is what has led to the paving over of much of what made the early stuff, early on, so much ‘they get it, they really get it!’ fun, then alas! It would seem likely we can only expect more pavement in the future, with, perhaps, an informative sign along the roadside: Your gem store dollars at work.
Then again, such a sign would most likely be in violation of the ‘we will spill no beans before we spill the milk’ policy.
No battle plan survives first contact.
People constantly say in these “goodbye” threads that “hey great, comeback any time, it’s free after all” and yet so many recommend that GW2 should be a sub game and that would fix the “money grubbing Anet ‘thrice cursed’ gem store” issue.
Funny how that sword cuts both ways.
Things change in a game after 2 years, not all for the better. Yet I have found only one change that truly got my dander up. That’s not bad considering I wade through these forums regularly and see so many people up in arms about everything Anet does. I applaud them for their patience in this realm of hissing cats.
Do I love everything they have done? No. Do I miss things gone? Yes. Am I going to quit? Not likely. Adapt and continue to enjoy the game is my goal. It’s not that hard really.
Peace.
(edited by Castrin.8972)
You really believe that yourself?
You really think less people will leave because the hearths events are dumped down and weapon skills are not locked behind levels?
Well I don’t. I think that the reaction we have seen on the forums in much closer to the truth of what also those new players think. (for those changed people dislike to much, there where also some good changed in the NPE)
Depends on what posts you read. Personally I think you are dismissing the positive (i.e. counter-point) posts that run counter to the story in your mind.
The fact that you use “locked behind” instead of “unlocked at” phrasing denotes that you feel that things have been limited instead of simply segmented differently than you’re used to.
Good example are weapon skills (which you reference) where now you get those automatically at a certain level, for all weapons usable in that class, instead of having to acquire each weapon and grind out the skills for them. Each method has it’s pos/neg points but the weapon leveling was unique to GW2. Anet found that this was a problem and streamline the process and made it more like other MMOs to lower the barrier for new players.
Good luck. May you have cool winds and following seas.
Peace.
The Stealth Heart can be done in 10 minutes if you know the trick to it. No, I’m not posting it here, you just have to think a bit and you’ll figure it out. (Guild mate told me though so YMMV. )
Peace.
Actually thinking about this I’m okay with it’s removal. However I’d like them to put it back in as an /emote, then it’d feel more immersive and less invasive. Same with the other rather random character animations like the hair sweeping.
Using this to expand the emote system/selections would be excellent in my book.
Peace.
my only purpose with a game is have fun, if i wanna reward i go work
{snip}
raids have to be developed by 0, lets try to give to all gw2 players what they want, ppl like u already have the entire game with this mechanics could we hope to have something different for the others?
Great! and you can do that -find people that have fun the same way you do and have at it.
For the majority of players in this game as far as I’ve seen fun= rewards fast.
Or better rewards. Or more rewards. That’s what people want in an MMO.There’s absolutely nothing in this game preventing you from playing exactly how you want except your own vision and ideas.
I have to agree with Lian. Any “raid” mechanism should be accessible from low level up, much like the Gauntlet or Labyrinth were/are. It should appeal to all and reward all characters based on level and yet include the possibility to gain that “elite” drop just the same as all others.
That would meet the requirement of “fun” at all levels of play without locking people out of the content.
Peace.
Why the sudden simplification of heart quests? Some weren’t perfect, sure, but the changes have made things vastly worse. Now, quests that were (at worst) a bit unexciting or time-consuming, are utterly boring.
Have not seen this in Dredgehaunt Clifts or Kessix Hills or Lonar’s Pass or Fields of Ruin or …
For example, Wayfairer Foothills used to be my favourite starting area, but now it’s far too easy and just plain dull.
Ah, okay. Well maybe you need to go into the actually challenging areas. Starter areas are for, well, players just starting out in GW2. Which you are not. The quests in starter areas are intended to be simple, not because people are simple (though many are) but to ease them into exploring the world they are in now.
We vets don’t need that level of hand holding but then this is not focused at us after all.
Good luck.
Peace.
The leveling process in this game is dry and tedious.
More news at 11.
NEWS ALERT!
The leveling process of ALL games is dry and tedious. (Especially if you’ve done it multiple times for alts.)
Look for our 4 part, overly dramatic, exposé coming soon!
Peace.

The GW1 system was designed for a completely different game with a completely different type of “average player” playing it.
This system we have now – both stat-wise and skill-wise is designed to be as “dummy proof” as possible so terribly bad people can still perform and don’t drop the game.
That’s the short answer.
Well that hasnt worked either. More and more people drop every day. Because it is soooo dumbed down.
There is no such thing as a game that appeals to everyone. By attempting to do so, you only make a mediocre game for everyone. Better to know your audience and appeal to them, as the first game did.
Never a truer statement. But, obviously they aren’t appealing to the masses, that’s apparent by the mass exodus and the crazy long queue times. Appealing to a select few “pro” players is going to be the games demise. Well, whats left of the community anyway.
Sorry but not seeing a “mass exodus” but we can agree to disagree.
What I have seen is many bored players (i.e. veterans with ridiculous AP totals), that want something that GW2 is not, rage quit. Most saying so on these forums, yet never leaving due to their “hope that things will change.” Meaning they hope for a WoW like endgame … which was stated at the very beginning GW2 would never have.
As for this system being dumb down, certainly they did change what I feel was a working system with the NPE changes but that only applies to those in beginner areas. The upper levels haven’t changed much and need skill to complete (and before you say they don’t ask your self how easy was it for you in the beginning) and help from others. A good setup still takes consideration and the right stat/trait/armor/weapon/trinks combination. For those that want a challenge try thinking out side of the box. You still can in the game. Doing Zerker with all your characters is pretty bland and other setups provide interesting challenges.
Does GW2 appeal to everyone, nope. Does it appeal to me (and others), yep.
Peace.
For those not familiar with it, Guild Wars 1 used a five-attribute system, with each profession having its own.
{snip}
In short
Guild Wars 1’s system was about doing your role(s) – defined by your skills – the way you wished in your own specific way. The Guild Wars 2 system is all about min-maxing to a role defined by your stats – and the game has suffered for it.
I disagree, the game has not suffered for it at all. In GW2 you have so much more you can tailor and it isn’t restricted to a rigid class system like GW1. Certainly in GW1 you could focus more on your set role but that’s why GW2 is better. There are no roles except those that you want to do in any class you care to play.
Min/Maxing is the staple of most good RPGs and GW2 follows that philosophy and creates a world where class is just how you do combat, and how well you do it is based on a more complex stat structure. In your example an Elementalist is not relegated to doing only their attunements and only able to pick one. Instead they do them all and tailor how they affect combat by manipulating the stats they have assigned.
I’ve played both GW1 and GW2 and of them both I think GW2 is the better system. Not perfect mind you but much more flexible and fun.
Peace.
Interesting, never noticed this till I watched for it. Always thought it was someone else doing a CC attack.
Don’t have a problem with it and think it’s kind of original in a way. Curious now if it happens at level up if over 80.
Peace.
I keep playing because this is the best MMO out there hands down. The community is one of the best. The game content is expanding and the world feels more alive than ever. No sub fee. No grind (unless you like that). Good friends that I like to adventure with. Light RP’ing when/if I want. Beautiful environments and simply a gorgeous game. All in one very enjoyable package.
For those that say “nothing left to do” I feel sorry for you. Most likely you powered through everything just like a typical grind (WoW) player and now look around and yep, you’re out of ideas. Did all Fractals, did all World Complete, have ascended on all (or most) your characters. Have all the ranks in WvW, mastered PvP and are unbeatable in all classes. Have a Legendary or 2 (or 3+) and tons of specialty armor and weapons and most of the skins in the game. For you I feel sorry and hope you find a new game you can appropriately chew through and leave the rest of us to enjoy our game.
Me … well I never found it necessary to power through a game. I like to sit back, relax, and enjoy the game play, the environment, the combat and warfare. Zerg or party just doesn’t mater as it’s just fun, but then that’s just me. Spending 10-12 hours a day to get the latest Ascended weapon/armor or for a Legendary just wasn’t and isn’t high on my list. To fret I don’t have the best … meh.
So I continue to play this MMO because it’s the best and it’s where I have the most fun and hang my “hat” online. It’s not the first and won’t be the last. All good things come to an end but I don’t see that happening here for the next 5-10 years. I also don’t see anything on the horizon replacing it so far.
Peace.
How did you buy the two sets of Halloween Minis, from Halloween 2012? They are account bound.
Gem store item this year, FYI.
Nothing personal but I could use a break from the elder dragons storyline for a time. Send us to Elona to fight Palawa Joko and his undead army and help the Sunspears, Kourna, Vabbi and Order of Whispers regain control of their homelands. Yes I know Kralkatorrik is blocking entrance to the Crystal Desert but if we kill him next after Mordremoth can we take a leave from Tyria and go fight in Elona?
+1
Interesting question and very subjective.
I generally go in having a basic idea of the concept I’m looking for. I strive to stay away from “cookie cutter” ideas like ‘great Norn warrior’ or ‘blond haired sorceress’ which I see ad infinitum. My best advice is to work it out ahead of time as much as you can. Everyone will have an opinion on how to do it but if you want to make more than just run of the mill characters a little prep time thinking on it will be time well served. Then experiment with the character generation tools to workout the details. Another hard part will be the name so be sure you think of a good one. Not one that seems to have been made by a spastic 13yr old twitch player. Write it out and see how it looks on paper and decide if you will be ok seeing it on your screen 24/7.
Good Luck.
Peace.
We are now up to 3 weeks.
Can someone from Anet point me to the official ‘what happens at every level’ guide please?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Level_rewards
Only one I know of and was updated as of 9/25.
Ok lemme put it that way – are there any “guild wars” or anything that would imply to that in Guild Wars 2? -No, absolutely not. Not even a little bit. This is why the name is unsuitable.
The name is unchanged just because it is a Guild Wars sequel, but the actual representation of the name is unsuitable hands down.
Do we have Guilds in the game? Yes. Do we have wars in the game? Plenty. Do we still have backstory from the Guild Wars from so long ago? Oh yeah, someone mentioned where it’s still talked about in the game.
There’s plenty of reason for it to still be called Guild Wars 2. Honestly, I think it has more merit now than before this thread started.
Do we have guilds in the game? yes. Do we have wars in the game? yes. But those wars are NOT guild wars but it is a war with the awakened dragon(s). There is no Guild vs Guild in the game.
Actually this is technically incorrect. Every day there are guild vs. guild battles in game. Simple and friendly competitions that occur on a regular basis. That it isn’t a built-in part of GW2 yet is true (one can hope this will change) but there are a few external tracking resources. And no, I’m not talking about WvW (though it is where these contests are resolved).
Chech the video i posted in the original post. ^^
What about it? About 90% of that video is PvE with the last 15 or so seconds being PvP.
And they didn’t even show any PvP at all, the whole video was showing PvE only, they mearly mentioned PvP at the very end. If the game was supposed to be primarily PvP at first, you would have thought they would have shown PvP in that video instead of just mearly mentioning it.
Yep, sorry Hegediz but you just proved that you’re wrong. There isn’t a single statement on fighting other guilds in that clip. Only fighting in groups (i.e. Guilds) against mobs.
Peace.
just got off runescape and felt so satisfied with my last 5 hours. Something I never felt on GW2 for the last 1 year loool good to free up 20gb on my hdd
Really?!
The 1980s called, they want their 32bit graphics back. First “mission” is fishing and talk about level gating. Ohoo boy!
Probably best that you left GW2 if that’s the quality of game you prefer.
Peace.
The new feature pack is discouraging new entrants.
I was checking youtube and found this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqJlKjwrKB4#Scary older players are not encouraging him to stay, they are instead telling him to leave the game and how to get a refund. That is a very bad advertisement for the game.
This person is not the focus of the feature patch, he is not a new player playing GW2 for the first time post patch.
I too have (had) 2 characters in the 30s (35 and 36) and while I don’t actively run the PS till I’m much higher than the recommended (in the past) level I didn’t have a problem adapting to the new system. The only irritant was that I couldn’t swap my elites till I got to the break point (lvl 40) again. I could still use the skill selected.
I think people are not defending GW2 and Anet because they are po’ed because of the change happening with poor communication and it happened to many when they were in the middle of something (example: the commentator in the video) with no warning. Anet failed to let the player base know just what and how precisely, was changing prior to the change in the 3 weeks of blogs that prefaced the FP. They should have been more clear and forward in the huge amount of time they gave themselves. It was a squandered opportunity that I hope they learn from.
Do I like the level gating? Not really but I can see why it was done. It’s a shame that the 1-15 zones are now rather boring but then again they are supposed to be for new players and not really for us vets so I get it. As for the effect on alt leveling, meh, seems they level just as fast even if the tutorials are a bit annoying. Again that is for new players so I can hit “x” just fine. I will say that I will miss the old way of getting weapon skills, it was easier and more fun but having it automatic will probably help truly new players.
Peace.
I see a lot of talk about alliances. Two questions on that front:
1) What functionality would you like to get out of an alliance?
2) What makes you want alliances?I’ll try to answer them myself.
1) Ability to play content that is made for larger guilds. Ability to connect some of my guilds and have them be able to chat together without the commitment of being in the same guild.
2) My guild is small and there is not enough content for small guilds. I think we could make more small guild content too which would help alleviate the need for alliances.
1) a) Chat tools that link the guilds together via mutual accessibility based on guild membership.
1) b) Pooled influence that can be used to start world events and other large game content.
1) c) An alliance tool similar to the Guild tool that allows for information sharing and management.
1) d) Megaserver placement prioritization for guilds that are in the same alliance.
2) The ability to collaborate in larger content (events/puzzles/etc.) without losing our guild identity or having to “jump around” to other guilds just to be involved. To be more involved in WvW and possible other, similar (like GvG or AvA if ever implemented in the future), parts of the game.

It’s completely optional to use so i’m not sure why you would be so much against it. You don’t like that option? Don’t use it! Simple as that.
We have an international guild so people all play on different times. They play also on different characters. Some always join for guild-missions some never some sometimes.
There is so much variables that it is almost impossible to be fair to all members. In addition it also makes it much more clear for members themselves.
We have a big guild and multiple officers helping but that does not mean this would not be useful, besides we would also like to play the game ourself in stead of watching the roster 24/7 noting online times / representing times and so on the whole time (what would be the only way to manually do what this function could provide!). Personally I think if guild-members would do that they should close there guild because what’s a guild if the leaders only look at the roster all day?
I would personally also only use it for the first few ranks but it’s really a very good and useful tool for bigger guild.
Now that you might not use it yourself that’s all fine but it’s a little bit stupid to come here and say “No and just no.” as if it would hurt you what is of course not the case. It’s completely optional.
Peace.
Well sorry but I’m only saying this is a bad idea because I’ve seen what an “automated” rank/control system can do. It’s not pretty. Complete loss of guild control, emptying of banks and goods and a general destruction of the guild to the detriment of all the members.
Optional is fine (though I have yet to see anything that is “optional” in GW2 save client options) but the potential to seriously damage a guild due to one rouge player is huge. Should that happen how would you explain to the members? That you decided that it was too hard to manage and instead relied on scripting to promote people? Oops?
So no, I’m not voicing my opposition out of some random reason or desire to dissent but because I can see how this could go horribly wrong for your, or any other huge/international, guild. For mine, it would remain off (if that is an option) and never used.
Peace.
p.s. Please don’t use emotional terms like “stupid” or similar, it detracts from the discussion. Thanks.
In fact I did give that as a risk. However with better tools for bank permissions you should be able to prevent a player from misusing it. Also the same can just as well happen with manually giving ranks.
Please don’t use emotional sentences like “No and just no.” and really your whole first paragraph did not add anything useful and seemed more emotional then anything else. That’s why I did consider it a little stupid. To clarify that.
Hearing someone say no to your idea is hard to except so I can understand your emotional response. I don’t take offense with you trying to throw it back into my face.
I read the risks you noted and I felt they were understated, simple as that. No emotion involved but you can infer whatever you feel you need to.
I like where the idea is going, in a more “inform the officers” as opposed to “automate” path, so let’s just focus on that.
Peace.
Automated guild-ranks.
No and just no. Beyond the “entry” rank assignment it’s a bad idea to automate any of the other ranks. If you can’t be bothered to manage your guild and have no one to help then it’s time to trim the membership or just close the guild.
Right now there is enough granularity for what is there. If things are added then they should include rights assignment like everything else. If things get really complicated it might be an idea to add guild roles as a sort of template to streamline assigning rights.
Peace.

How about a middle ground where the automation would allow you to quickly have a list of eligible players for a promotion (which has to be done manually by an officer)
Well that is an excellent idea and a good compromise.
Peace.
