Alright, so this idea of mine is rather out there. Moa Lancers (people riding on moas). If WvW is ever expanded upon, this could serve as a type of cavalry force for the zergs. These “Moa Lancers” would need to be balanced so that they are not too fast, don’t outclass zerging on foot, and require decent strategic positioning to work properly. They could also be implemented into open world PvE to ease on-foot map navigation.

I seriously doubt it’ll be nerfed. It has a “new car smell” that’ll wear off when people get used to it. By then, most people will be prepared to deal with it and it won’t be as problematic. Any ranger who lets their entire rapid fire get reflected back at them deserves to die. :p

I saw sooo many reflects last night… I think half of my dodges were for my own rapid fire… Honestly, the number of Rangers should decline quickly, as the new toy feeling wears off and eventually, they won’t be as much of a problem.

There’s the problem when you get a really long immobilize and you get condi bombed at the same time, so you can’t cleanse it and you’re stuck without the ability to dodge for the entire duration, which is brutal to something like an ele, who needs dodge to cleanse.

I just slap on Signet of the Hunt in place of a signet that helps me more in combat when I don’t think I’m going against anything deadly. If I really did need the extra damage, at least I can pop a surprise moment of clarity maul on them…

The mesmer torch has one really nice skill (Blind, stealth, and burn all in one) and one skill that is just clone fodder because of how weak it is. You never really see classes other than mesmer use torches, though, so that alone tells you how much love they need.

I wish this amount of complaining had been made about how p/d thief received no nerf… The PU changes aren’t bad, but they should’ve made the might granted a bit stronger so that Power PU builds could benefit from it. Condition damage would’ve also benefited from it, but it seems kind of lame that they’d make the might so blatantly weak. I’m seriously hoping for a p/d nerf now that I know they will nerf cheese.

Riding Broom vs Enchanted Broom

So I bought the witch’s outfit for my necro a little while back and was dissapointed that the broom that came with it doesn’t work in WvW. The riding broom is slightly different and does not have the same skill bar as the enchanted broom that came with the witch’s outfit. It just lets you ride. Is it also not allowed in WvW? Thanks in advance.

I feel like Celestial ele is in a precarious spot when it comes to balance. If you weaken the Celestial gear, it could become outclassed by another stat spread and fade from usage. If strength runes are nerfed, then eles may lose the ability to do decent damage on celestial and they may be forced into bunker or burst again. Nerfing drakes breath will also harm the already scarce condi ele.
I agree with a post I read a couple posts back. More anti boon meta would work. Not enough to wipe boons off the map, but enough to make it harder to successfully pull it off. This may be a bad example, but with the nerf to s/d #3 on the thief, they could move larcenous strike back to two boons. Another thing they could do is increase the priority of might on some boon strips. s/d thieves have to take swiftness and regen before they can get to your might (need fact check on this). If they made some skills, like mind stab on the mesmer gs prioritize might (after stability, if it doesn’t already), there would be some decent counterplay to might based builds.
My last nitpick is that d/d ele is not too hard to predict. Watching an ele swap attunements will give you a good idea of what they will do next before they even act. That’s just my two cents.

Solo roaming on a power ranger is rather difficult. You will have a lot of trouble with thieves. They can gap close you easily and occasionally sneak up on you. The unfortunate part is that most solo roamers you encounter will be thieves. Good luck.

I have an amusing idea for WvW and mounts. Moa Lancers. Basically a group of people in the zerg ride moas and carry lances instead of walking with their normal weapons. The moa lancers cavalry tactics, which would add more depth to WvW zerg combat. On top of that, they could create a trap that would stun in dismount riders in an AoE radius. On the grounds of speed boosts, I would say no more than a +25%, but maybe have a skill that temporarily increases their speed to 50% for quickly flanking the enemy zerg. As for obtaining them, I would say have a stock of moas in a stable at spawn, but only allow a certain number of those moas to be used at one time, so that the zerg isn’t all riding moas. One that could be summoned indefinitely on demand could be available as maybe a Black Lion Chest drop or a gem store item (I think they’re against adding gameplay enhancers to the gemstore, though). They could also be sold for 100g like a commander tag. They could go much deeper into this, but I think the idea is rather far-fetched anyways.

Wow! Those are some awesome skin combos you’ve made. I have a female norn ranger who’s look I’m quite content with. She’s more designed as a hunter than a battlefield archer, though, but it fits my roaming playstyle better. I bought the mask as a joke, but it grew on me and now I can’t take it off.

Greatsword sigil question

I would recommend sigil of intelligence if you are using moment of clarity because it gives just enough hits for swoop + hilt bash + maul. I have a 50% crit chance and I still use intelligence because if maul doesn’t crit, it usually won’t be fatal. The other sigil I run is battle, but bloodlust and hydromancy are also good choices.

I would find my d/d ele worthy of evaluation for nerfs if fire grab and lightning touch were easier to, my burst wasn’t based off burning speed + lightning flash, my non-air autoattacks were decent, RTL didn’t have a stupid cooldown, and churning earth had the ability to work effectively.

I play my ranger when I’m bored of my ele. I like how some people expect to kill you so easily, that they hardly try. I’ve killed skilled players on my ranger with less than 100 hours of experience.

LB ranger is seriously underrated in wvw

I ran a lb/gs moment of clarity ranger in WvW for 3 days. I had surprisingly good success with it, but there were a few things I noted:
-you never realize how many reflects and projectile blockers there are until you play ranger
-thieves are by far the hardest fight
-spider F2’s have misleading tooltips (says your next attack, but it’s your spider’s next attack)
-hunter’s shot is very unreliable
-a good hilt bash maul combo hits like an eviscerate
-gs 4 is amazing. Almost 3 skills in one.
-people underestimate you and suffer the consequences
-great at chasing
-the upcoming buffs will only make things better for me
-some people are too lucky with random dodges

My wishlist is that hunter’s shot only stealths and has a single powerful shot that replaces hunter’s shot when stealthed. This way, when I interrupt someone with point blank shot, I have a powerful skill to make use of moment of clarity with. Currently, the only skill I can effectively follow up an interrupt with is maul on the gs and that is surprisingly hard to land, even after a stun.

Looks solid to me. I wonder how changing to a dps food would work for you. Condis are quite common in WvW, though, so you may not feel comfortable switching. Another thing you could do is move 2 points from water into earth for the trait that’ll give a 10% damage bonus to all of your d/d skills. The build is a little lacking in crit damage, so you can rearrange your gear after getting the +100 toughness from the earth line to get a little more crit damage. You also get +100 Condition Damage which will add a little extra kick to your burns and bleeds.

That is my opinion. I hope it helps a bit! : )

The ele learning curve involves many deaths. Being an upscale in WvW makes you look like free loot. When you become better, you will be a valuable support mechanism to the zerg or a roaming group. Eventually, you will be able to outplay those predictable 3-button warriors, and you can even catch the runners with your FGS if you want to. It definitely gets better, but you will die many, many times in the learning process, especially when leveling. With some patience, you will learn the class and possibly enjoy it more than anything else.

Maybe an interesting mixed range/melee javelin technique for ranger
Hardcore halberd style for warrior
Something defensive for guardian (I really want 1-handed polearm with shield) with good offensive utility
A thief could wield it like a quarterstaff (kind of kills the dual wielding concept, but so does shortbow)

A thief may one shot you. Anything that survives your burst will be difficult, if not impossible, to beat. If they land the first hit, you may be dead before you can react.

I don’t think you should use arcane brilliance. You’ll never survive long enough to cast it against 5 foes and the damage is negligible, even with all that crit dmg.

I’m not familiar with the scepter burst, but it would need to be fast. Unless you are very slick, anything that survives your burst will kill you. If a thief doesn’t one shot you, the following heartseeker would seal the deal. Condi buuilds will have an easy time with you as long as they live the burst because of your tiny hp pool.

What does each tier have to do with what he suggested?

You mention it could turn out very different. Do you mean similarly to how everyone complained about some “perceived” condition meta in PvP, yet in tournaments, almost no one uses conditions? Or do you mean different like the misconception that it some how magically adds a 40% damage boost when it doesnt? Or do you mean different as when broken down, the actual damage per second output is increased more with power food?

Wouldn’t basing a change on damage food be more beneficial if we base it on factual and comparable increase?

By the way. I am personally for separating this into two different foods. One for damaging and debuff conditions, and one for CC conditions.

I thought he was saying that you get 10% condition duration for each point you invest into the condition duration line, which it sort of already does, and I would not want to double that if that was what he meant. I was confused by what he was agreeing to and if he was agreeing at all or just being sarcastic.

When I said different, I meant it could become bad instead of balanced.

I was saying that condition duration food is not damage food because it is a combination of damage and utility due to the different types of conditions. They already have food that increases the duration of specific conditions, which, ironically, have a far shorter duration boost than the +% condition duration food (a meager 15%). Alongside reducing the condition duration food to 20%, they could have foods with 40% bonuses for the different types of conditions (Damaging, Debuffing, and Stun). I took a look at the different % change foods for condition duration and was surprised that there was a -40% stun duration food, but nothing similar to it in the +% condition duration foods.

Splitting it up isn’t at all bad idea, in fact I’d like to add to that by saying that along with there being boost for different types of conditions that are the original 40% (or maybe a little less), there would be a +20% condition duration food for those who want access to an increase in all of the conditions instead of just one type.

What would you do with the -% condition duration food?

It would have a long cooldown and be dodge-able. The point was to make it the strongest fear because warrior and thief have access to stronger fears than necro despite fears being necro’s specialty.

Daphoenix’s “Mastering the d/d ele” guide includes most of the tips and tricks you need to know for d/d gameplay. His guide is a little outdated, though. Don’t use it for selecting gear because sigil mechanics have changed and the old rune spread was nerfed, while a better one (strength runes) emerged. Also, look up and watch lots of videos. It’s good to see what different specs you can run and see the combos being put into action. That’s what I did (and still do), at least.

I also recommend you watch the forums for videos, because you will find many videos on the forums you would have otherwise missed. Hope this helps! XD

+ / – 40% condition duration food is pretty absurd. It gives more condition duration than investing 6 points into a traitline (+300 bonus to non duration stats). If a food gave +400 power, I’m sure it would be very popular, maybe even the most popular food, and it would not be reasonable for everyone who’s not running the +400 power food to run a +400 toughness food to counter this. I would say that these foods are OP and I do not use that term lightly.

That being said, if they removed it, condition builds might begin to disappear in the shadow of power builds. I think that reducing these foods to +/- 20% a is very reasonable compromise. The food would still be very strong, but not so ridiculously strong that one needs to run it’s exact opposite to counter it.

+400 power is not countered by +400 toughness and +400 any stat doesn’t equal +40% condition duration. They are totally different stats that act differently.

If condition damage was front loaded damage then you could make that comparison. Even -40% condition duration food gives you 70 vitality to go with it which helps against direct and condition builds.

I was aiming for the comparison of the traitlines, where 30% condition duration and +300 to a stat are achieved with the same investment and therefore, in a way, equal (Power and Toughness may not directly counter each other, but there are no stats I can think of that directly counter each other like Condition Duration). By comparison, It makes +40% condition duration look very strong, but if you insist that the comparison is invalid, scratch it and focus on the proposal. It’s not hard to prove what a +40% condi duration boost brings to the table. Especially what you compare it with any other food. I think +20% is far more reasonable for a food effect.

I agree. You absolutely right. They need to change the trait lines value so that every point invested adds 10% duration.

This is a great suggestion Cecelia and I completely agree. This would be a great way to reasonably change the food to 20% duration.

The only question is, since in other threads in which the damage for ferocity, power, precision, condition damage, and condition duration food had been broken down to its maximum damage per second for each profession, what do you do with the fact that the food will give the least benefit compared to all other foods by 30%-50% value?

Condition duration already increases by 10% for each tier (Adept, Master, Grandmaster) when you invest into the line that boosts it. Condition duration food offers more than just dps. At least half of the conditions in the game do not deal damage and condition duration boosts boosts those conditions too. The food would still bring a good amount of utility on top of damage. It would also make other condition foods more appealing for those only interested in dps, adding more variation to food choices.

This is all speculation, however. For all we know, it could turn out completely different if condition duration food was nerfed. It could very well lose viability. In my opinion, it’s a little too viable right now and needs to be toned down.

Imagine if the boon duration food was 40%… That would make my ele pretty scary. There would be a lot of complaints to say the least.

[PvP] The state of Necromancers in PvP

I bought a Witch’s Outfit for my Necro today and decided to hop on it and take a look at the Necro forums. As someone who mains ele, I felt a strong Deja vu when I saw the state of the Necro as it was being portrayed on the forums. It looks like ele did before they buffed it back into the light. From what I read, I concluded that the Devs decided to go on a nerf frenzy against Necros (Maybe they took all of the condi hate out on them), reducing them to the point where people are saying the class is not viable in PvP. Hopefully, you’ll get lucky and it’ll take the Devs less than a year to fix you. I hope ele doesn’t trade places with you at the bottom of the barrel again… (inb4 Strength Rune nerf)

[Ranger][WvW] "Protect Me" Shout

The problem I have with this skill is that it is a self-destruct button for your pet. When your pet dies, the swap cooldown lasts a very long time. If both of your pets die, traits like empathetic bond stop working, which, in the end, leaves you more vulnerable and lowers your DPS potential. Personally, I’d like to see the removal of animal abuse skills and traits that require the suffering of the pet. Necromancers treat their minions better than a ranger treats his pet… I would much rather see Signet of Stone not require a trait to effect the ranger than “Protect Me!” becoming more likely to kill your pet. I’d rather see the skill reduce incoming damage than kill the pet. If the skill remains the way it is, it should correctly display what it does, though.
