Thanks to your responses, guys. I think as for the exploit (and completely appreciate that as an argument against the idea), Anet need to stop people changing class during the match period. Matchmaking needs a big improvement, we all know that, so that needs to be corrected first. But, if they made sure you couldn’t swap to your main, that you know inside and out, then that’d stop the exploit and would match you fairly against your team mates and opponents.
This isn’t about tactical PvP skill, it’s about how much someone understands a brand new class if they were to suddenly try something new at rank 80.
Okay, apart from the obvious, why is key farming such an issue?? Even when I have participated in such a tedious, boring task as this, the drop rate of ticket scraps, or indeed ANYTHING remotely good from the chest I open makes it completely not worth it. But for those who enjoyed doing this, I just don’t understand the harm?
Secondly, this impacts me more, because my enjoyable thing to do in GW2 is make alternate characters, and yes, I want my key please for completing chapter 1 of personal story, I don’t want to just not get a reward! I know, I know, you do it a week later, or stop complaining about it, but there are 3 questions here from me:
1) Why, honestly (aside from Anet wallet issues) is this such a big issue they have to restrict honest players’ enjoyment?
2) What WILL the reward be, if you did do more than one personal story in a week
3) WHAT IS THE DROP RATE INCREASE OF BLACK LION KEYS?
… and please make the rewards in the chests more rewarding. Maybe then, people will buy keys.
I feel for you Yashoua. I think (and I play mesmer too) mesmers need to be rebalanced for sure. Let me list:
Invisibility
Manouvrability
Daze/stun
Interrupt
Range
Invulnerability
Burst spike damage
Should a class, really have all these things? d/d eles are hard enough to deal with, let alone this. As someone who plays mesmer in PvP a lot, I still believe I should be nerfed. It just seems highly unbalanced.
Another mesmer can come to me, mass invisible, shoot me down in an instant without giving me a chance to get any of my clones out and I know my husband and guild mates feel the same.
On a side note: how to report macros or hacks in PvP? A particular thief (I don’t suppose I can say her character name?) for SURE MUST use a macro. If she hits you alone, you are 100% dead because it all happens too fast for even a normal human response. If you are lucky enough to have support, you can wittle her down. But, it is an utter joke. Rant over

I would class myself as a veteran ranked PvPer. I hold all achievements for Necromancer and Champion Illusionist and am Dragon Rank.
After getting to dragon rank with my necro and mesmer, I wanted to try newer things. I’d dabbled in elementalist, and had 40 or so wins as a thief (so decided my next title goal would be shadow), but I’d never done warrior, like, EVER and I’d not been successful at engineer. Guild mates are the same. So used to one class, but desperate to try another.
So, I am suggesting that the ranks obtained in PvP are not account-wide, but should be per class. I went in to a ranked match as a warrior, after never playing warrior before (albeit a few practice runs in the guild arena) and felt a let down to my team. Tactics aside, I didn’t properly know how to play this build. Neither does my guild mate really truly understand engineer. So, perhaps it isn’t the best idea to be matched up with ‘equal’ opponents when you’re actually less ‘experienced’ in a particular profession?
Would it therefore be a good idea to have class-ranks, rather than account-wide? OR, have I misunderstood match-making, because that baffles me too, a little bit judging some of the horrifying teams and team-mates we get put with (if not a full guild party).
Just a suggestion.
Yup, lags. However, I do think there is an issue with quickness and stomping. After the stomp has gone through, you learn through several failures that you have to wait at the very end animation a few moments, otherwise you move away and have to start all over again, with your Haste, Quickening Zephyr, “Feel My Wrath” on cd for nothing. THAT is annoying.
While I agree with part of what you’re asking here (the number of classes per team 100% agree), try going against 5 mesmers!!!!!!
LOL…. nah, yours was bad, I know, but 5 mesmers was a pure and simple joke. Guild who do this, shame on you.
In my opinion Healing Turret is by far the best heal skill of the engi. You shouldn’t let the HT stay and stand in radius. The most efficient us is (Place HT -> Overchargr HT -> Pickup HT). If your team is in desperate need of heal you should blast it (Place HT -> Overchargr HT -> Blast HT).
See this
for more information.
With the Static Discharge build (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_Static_Discharge) you have the Trait “Accelerant-Packed Turrets” (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Accelerant-Packed_Turrets). So you have a bonus push back and damage to the foes near you if you blast the Healing Turret.
Thank you so much – indeed I saw AddiktGaming using HT in this way, and did try, but it just didn’t seem to give me the heal I saw it give him in-game which is why I questioned it. However, that was before your guys’ awesome build you suggested, so I will indeed follow this rotation and let you know how it goes.
I do love the Magnet and Pry Bar on Tool Kit, wow, that thing hits hard. Just hoping I get used to all the different situations
Thank you so much again guys, @jackaljag, I will try this out later as I use Elixir Gun in PvE so know how it works… and I will try the variant given by @Sagramor too – thank you!
Meanwhile, thanks to the first couple of answers given here, I tried out SD build and I think it is definitely something I can build on – won first match using it! And took out thief on treb in Kyhlo with little difficulty… a full regen warrior needed more assistance however LOL…
But the thing is, I found it much more ‘buildable’ for me, i.e. I think I can keep it and continue learning when best to use what skill and so on, whereas before, I just felt it was useless button mashing and if I ever won a fight, it would be pure luck or from team help. I tried the SD build in our guild arena first and felt confident to take on the full test run
One quick question: everyone seems to go for Healing Turret, while I fully appreciate the reason for this, I saw a commander in WvW using Med Pack… I thought this was useless until I saw this and then tried it in open world PvE… Due to having to stay in the radius of the HT’s regen and problems of when the turret blows up, etc etc, does anyone have any thoughts on taking Med Pack instead of HT?? Or am I being entirely crazy??
I am more than happy for more people to keep suggesting things, but I am definitely building on this, and may try Elixir Gun later as I do like the small heals, skill 4 for a quick get away, and so on.
Thank you.
Wow, I didn’t expect people to reply so quickly, thank you so much. Thanks to both of you! I will absolutely try the Static Discharge engi!!
I also wasn’t familiar with the upcoming changes to Mortar Kit, is that with HoT? I will look it up…
I always, always have fun in this game, no matter what. And I’m sure you guys do to. thanks again.
Hi guys, this might be hard for me to describe and also may be hard for you all to answer, but basically, I am looking for (post patch re turrets) an engineer build I can try that I feel confident in. I am happy to try different things. I already have a kick kitten necro, an amazing ranger and an ok-ish mesmer for PvP.
I know some of you will just tell me “don’t play engi” but PLEASE don’t. I am asking here for sincere help for me to TRY out stuff to see what might/might not work for me.
About my disability:
I have a genetic skin disorder called Epidermolysis Bullosa, which means my skin is fragile and tears, blisters at the slightest touch and over time, my fingers have curled and scarred and fused together. SO, playing GW2, I have literally a travel mouse (which I use to turn my character) and I have 2 kind of useful fingers on my left hand that I use (with my mouse) to turn my character and do skills with. I alternate between mouse and fingers for 6-0 skills and alternate, depending on what I need to do between mouse and fingers for character manipulation. This is what I know you will find hard to visualize. BUT I believe (and so does my husband) that I can play really well, albeit perhaps without the FULL maneuvrability you guys get.
SO, I have practically given up on thief for PvP, but I really would like to get into engi. I have played so far an engi build I found on YouTube from AddiktGaming using grenade kit, bomb kit and rocket boots with supply crate. However, I find throwing grenades and moving very difficult and I can’t use instant targeting because I use my mouse to move so the curser won’t be necessarily where I want it for the grenades to shoot. Bomb kit is ok, because I can just run around and dump bombs everywhere but when players are all over me, I just get overwhelmed.
I tried mines after finding mines worked well in the SW, but obviously, MOST adept players in PvP know to dodge them and so on.
Then I thought about trying the turret engi and just sitting, going to sleep, dancing, whatever on one point… but like with my mesmer, once all my turrets (or clones with mes) are gone, I am vulnerable again. And, now with the turrets taking condi damage (great for my necro haha) I just can’t see it being good for me. Plus I like to roam.
There really may be no answer, but I’d REALLY like to see if you guys can come up with something different I could try out, as I say, I am happy, more than happy to try anything – oh and traits… please if you show me a build show me those too of course.
I have a level 80 engi who regularly tags up for SW events runs so you won’t be teaching me necessarily how to play engi, I just, with my disability am interested in anything that may help me for PvP.
Thank you SO much in advance, and if you’ve any questions on my disability don’t hesitate to ask.
P.S. I am rank 43 (tiger)

The stress test was brilliant. Thank you for letting me and my husband be a part of it. The PC I am using isn’t built at all optimally for this kind of intense game and I was worried before about whether it could take the motion and the graphics that HoT may bring as it struggles often even on low settings in the Silverwastes. BUT I was truly surprised and over the moon in that is worked a dream, it was smooth, skills worked great, it didn’t crash once and there was no lag. I did the entire 4 hours total of the test and it was a joy and I videod all of it for my YouTube channel (obviously cut down).
The only concern I have is, is Wyvern like a world boss? Because if so, there will be MANY more people on this boss than there were during the test and so it may not have been stress tested enough for the reality of the numbers encountered during current world boss fights, BUT this is probably irrelevant since I am 100% sure Anet will know this.
For the Revenant, I think it looks to be a fantastic class. I agree the Mace and Axe aren’t great for the boss fight, but, how many of us alternate weapons during different encounters? So, this doesn’t bother me. I am looking forward to trying this weapon set in lower level areas and on fewer mobs, different encounters and such. I also agree I was in Jalice mode for most of the Wyvern fight, but the condi cleanse and abilities to be detangled and help others in this way, torment and such was great in Mallyx.
The use of energy was great, like GW1 days! I likened it a bit to a Thief’s Initiative…
I REALLY liked how everyone knew more of how to control the Wyvern the second time around and we really kept him grounded. It was really exciting and excellent to watch him with tons of chains around him, struggling to fly. I am still unsure to an extent how we keep his defiance low to be able to control him, but this is my problem, not the game’s and I will learn – so exciting.
Gliding is awesome… we found it hard to judge where exactly the updrafts were and it took a few deaths to realise also we can control when we glide, when we can free fall and pop the glider again and so on and the Masteries system UTTERLY confused us to begin with… BUT these are all things that were overcome and will be learnt as we get more content to pursue.
The mushrooms were easy to use and really great fun watching my husband miss and fall and hearing his toon scream – hilarious.
The torching of the vines was such fun – not much else to say about that, but I scrambled like someone on hot coals to get the 50/50 torched vines. Great little side game.
The content looks fab and I truly cannot wait to see more of this new world.
No doubt there will be patches, balances and such – but all in all, we truly can’t wait for this expansion and if last night is anything to go by, I am just utterly relieved that my old doddering PC can take it.
Thank you GW2 – 10/10.
Thank you Anet for fixing the guild stuff and all other things you’ve fixed so far. Anyone thinking it isn’t fixed, just change your build queue around and it nudges it to start the 2 builds
That happened when I first logged in after patch, but they completed when I added something new to the queue… maybe try that and at least the “completed” ones may register, as ours did?
Agreed. It’s the queued upgrades bugging me most. We need some stuff before missions at the weekend and our workshop isn’t developing 2 upgrades as it should and so upgrades are taking forever.
It took them six months to fix what? Some stuff takes a long time to fix, some is easy to fix but hard to test, and some stuff is just… annoyingly hard to nail down completely.
I have no idea why this stuff borked with this patch or what’s involved with fixing it. But I do know that rollbacks are much harder to pull off than it sounds; it would mean devoting resources from all sorts of other things to do properly. It also won’t solve ANet’s “upset customer” problem: sure, the people complaining in this thread would be (mostly) mollified, but it would annoy an entirely new group of people.
Accordingly, I think it’s far more likely that ANet will spend 1-3 weeks developing/testing a way to remove the AP, titles, and skins that people unlocked by accident today. Mostly because there’s a simple 1:1 relationship between the actual GW1 HoM score and the titles/skins/APs granted in GW2.
It might not be clear that I am, myself, upset about ANet screwing this up. I can’t imagine what goes on in their change control/management and QA departments that something this simple to detect wasn’t prevented. But I don’t work there, so I can’t even reliably second-guess them. I expect them to work hard to resolve the issues and I’m willing to wait for them to do it, even though I would prefer to donate my patience to something else.
VERY very well said. I concur, fully.
Traits issue has been fixed too. I was able to purchase traits I couldn’t before the latest bug fixing patch.
A tweet by GW2 says they are working on the bugs.
Post patch and still guild queue is broken Because of this my guildies won’t be enjoying magic find for 3 days and other stuff because nothing was building for ages.
Please can someone just tell us what is happening? I just hope guild get a little compensation. It’s going to take ages now to get through the upgrade queue and we need things ready before missions this weekend.
All other bugs still there too, in fact, traits was the ONLY thing I saw that had been fixed. I am sad.
Game crashes when going to HoM for my husband, but other than that he’s seemingly been lucky! I really want them to fix all this, especially guild build queues.
Celine.6857:
However, magic find for 3 days is running down, so when this ends, we cannot activate the new upgrade because it is stuck! I can’t even speed it up.
A quick fix for this is to change the order of the next upgrade in your queue. It worked for the first issue I had today and a couple other people I’ve helped, so it should hopefully work for you.
—
Thanks… well weirdly I just noticed that queuing a new upgrade did in fact make the stuck one finish… BUT, I still only have one upgrade building, when there should be two simultaneously upgrading.
This whole thing, and with everything read above, is sad. I am sure stuff will be fixed. This is the first patch where something has affected me specifically.
Guild upgrades are entirely broken. Treasure Trove says it is complete yet isn’t progressing, and the second upgrade in queue isn’t developing even though we have workshop built. However, magic find for 3 days is running down, so when this ends, we cannot activate the new upgrade because it is stuck! I can’t even speed it up.
Guild chat doesn’t work either as stated above and I managed to get it working by setting my status to invisible and then online. But I can’t let all my guildies know about this, and for most of them it states they are “unknown” as to their status and where they are.
I am hoping this entire thread is going to be read by devs and that a new build fixing these bugs will be fixed asap.
Hi all, I am hugely sorry to post this here, but I really want to post about the new feature patch, in the extreme hope that ArenaNet are listening to us Veterans who hate the new level-gating and I can’t find a ‘general’ thread about it… this came up in a google search and forum search is useless. Many thanks. My husband and I read some time ago that an official GW2 developer said the level-gating was ‘bugged’ and it should just be for your first ever character, and they altered a few things, but quite honestly, I was so looking forward to creating a new Asura elementalist and now, I have to wait for 24 levels before I even unlock earth attunement?! NB: that is not my only complaint…
The love of building new characters has gone.
