Target Alerts - disability issue...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

Hi, about Target Alerts being Shift + T, can I use a different keybind to do the same thing, or a macro (if allowed) because I play with mittens for hands due to my disability (Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa) and there is absolutely no way I can do this keybind, unless I use my nose, but that would be horrendous for game-play… taking my eyes and nose off the ball is such a no no!

Any help would be really appreciated, thank you.

Depends what you mean by ‘found’. I’ve never had a ‘drop’ but I ‘found’ The Bard in a dungeon reward chest for completing a dungeon set of armour and weapons. Not sold it.

Vets refuse to help or even apple

I don’t find the OP’s issues all that often, but there is however, too much tagging and not enough communication about why they are tagged and not enough responses to questions asked by players on maps where there are tags. It infuriates me.

For me, its this abuse of tags that annoys me most. When I purchased my commander tag, I did so because I wanted to be useful, help people and have it there for real reasons. Nothing annoys me more than tags and now apples who are all over a map not speaking, not guiding, not doing a single thing. There’s an unwritten social moral code one should follow when tagging up in my opinion and there are too many abusers of this code. For example:

1) When you tag, you are responsible for answering queries, reliable and proper communication. Explain fully (no matter what) mechanics, ways to undertake the event you’re tagging for. Where there are events that require organised groups one should be fully coordinated with the other tags with the same level of communication.
2) If you arrive on a map and there is an apple or tag already there and the event only requires one tag, please don’t be an idiot and tag up as well. This undermines the person who already tagged up, steps on toes and is quite rude. No one is interested that you have a tag, it’s not a fashion statement, people just want proper coordination and communication to achieve the events’ goals.
3) If there is a tag already up and they are not communicating, you should give them ample opportunity to respond, perhaps send them a whisper and say that you are going to take over commanding if they don’t reply. Then tag up if necessary.
4) Tags for GMs shouldn’t interfere with other event tags. Make it clear on the map that’s what you’re doing if there are other events going on.

I know some of you will laugh at this and some of it probably sounds really snooty and too much for such a mechanic, but there is a social moral code that most commander tag holders abide by and there should be a way of reporting troll tags. There is nothing more frustrating when a big map meta event is corrupted and confused by too many tags. Squads have helped a lot with this, because people will simply join the squad of the commander(s) who are using their tag appropriately and use squad chat to discuss and understand the event.

At the same time, it is highly irritating when someone tags in an area such as Dry Top and travels around the map like a flea, not providing waypoints in chat, and literally trolling and abusing the symbol over their head for what? Is it funny to them? I don’t understand.

The sign of a good commander is when you are followed and whispered often “are you tagging for x, y and z? Can I join you?” I am thankful I follow such people and I am proud to be one of those who is also followed. There is nothing more satisfying (to me) than actually helping, coordinating and organising a large event to successful completion.

Finally, people need to comprehend that there are always new players to maps. What has been said about the Silverwastes above is complete nonsense. I will still tag and I will explain the mechanics. If people know the mechanics, they need not read chat, I am writing it for potential newer players and more often than not, a veteran learns a couple of things also. People forget all too easily that just because you’ve done something 10 or more times, doesn’t mean everyone there has.

Bloodstone Crazed Creatures Event

Celine.6857

I couldn’t agree more to this. We’ve been waiting in Snowden Drifts killing every Moa in sight for about 2 hours and nothing. When we got to the map people were saying “Moa and Devourer dead, Arctodus next”, since we’d just finished killing the devourer we knew this was probably correct. We went to the Arctodus waypoint and there were people waiting… good sign, we thought.

Questions after questions from other players “moa dead?”, “moa next?”, “when does boss spawn?”. After about 30 minutes waiting for the Arc, people moved back to the Moa spawn area. Same stuff there including “Moa should’ve spawned by now”. Then Levvi’s device stopped showing ANYTHING.

This event is SO muddled and it is quite literally the blind leading the blind when it comes to players helping players where this is concerned. I know I’m not being ‘forced’ to do these events, but I do want to do them, I am just so royally confused by it all though.

Playing heal support not enjoyable

I personally enjoy the build diversity. I have 80 full zerks, I have level 80 full heals, I have level 80 full condis and each play their roles really well. I like the fact I can build a character to support and/or survive or deal the most damage. If people don’t think this can be done, you’ve not tried hard enough.

Untradable weapon skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Celine.6857

From my experience, “Let’s just see” always ends very badly. I’m not going to wait and see where this goes, because we were here long ago with fused weapon skins. We’ve already been down this road. If you don’t stand against the precedent now, I don’t doubt for a second this will not be a one-off scenario.

As I’ve noted in a previous post in this thread, if these remain untradeable then I can go ahead and consider them out of reach, because in 3 years of playing I have only received enough scraps for a single ticket.

It’s not even about wanting this exact set, it’s about nipping this is the bud before they all end up this way.

Well to be honest, if they’re going to do something, they’ll probably do it anyway and there are a lot more important things I’d prefer they fixed and worked on, so I am happy with their official reply. So, I am happy to see what happens. There are so many things people revolted on with thread after thread after thread, but at the end of the day, they’ll do as they please with whatever they think is the right decision at the time no matter what we say.

Ahh – ‘special’ the worlds favourite word to get a free pass for general skulduggery.

While im here why are Gold to Gem and Ecto prices rocketing? is that special too? lol

I do understand what you mean but it’s not skullduggery, even if it is a tactic to get people buying keys. If it were skullduggery every single Pound and/or Dollar store out there would be skullduggering all over the place.

You as a customer know what you need to do to get a ticket scrap/ticket, and it’s your choice to do that, Anet aren’t conning us into buying keys.

I personally think people should calm down after what has been said about this set, and watch this space.

If this is how they want to play it out, we should all just not buy gem store items in protest, but people won’t do that. Let’s just see. It might just be a one off (whatever the reason) and they said this set is to remain one ticket far into the future, so even the sad odds of receiving a ticket you’ll have chance to get a weapon skin if you want one. I’m not even all that impressed with these skins to be honest; even the past 2 sets I’ve been a little saddened by.

What I want is for that patch where supposedly BL Key drop rate had increased to be revisited, because what? And to plead with Anet to improve the stuff given in the chests because right now, they’re not worth buying keys for anyway; and even more so if skins would become account bound!

Before you blame team, balancing, etc...

Hahaha awesome… I’d love to watch that. As to what was said above about people thinking personal score means something. I couldn’t agree more. Yesterday we had a match and I kept an ele (okay she kept me too) busy mid (no one had the point) the entire game and I mean the entire game, while my team capped close and far killing the rest of the enemies. Eventually I was killed because all the team came to ‘help’ their ele. This too was to my advantage because the said ele had started on our lord (doing fairly pathetically), so on spawn I said “cap, I can keep lord alive” and we ended up with all 3 points while ALL the enemies tried to kill our lord at 370 points. This was a huge mistake on their part because I just kept all the NPCs alive at our base while we raked in the win.

At the end I had just 35 points, because I didn’t do anything but this. But, in this particular match, had I (and 2 team mates by the end) not done this, we’d have most likely lost.

In most matches I am somewhere in the middle usually, and if a lot of roaming from mid to close fights happen, at the top, but personal score means nothing in PvP… well I guess unless you get zero I suppose lol. The only time it matters is when you’re doing GMs and you need to get a combined score of x, y or z (I do GMs in unranked just fyi)

I do wish people understood rotation better, but also not to spread too thin and leave points we managed to cap wide open because someone decided to be greedy and go for the 3-cap.

This is a real beauty. But there really is a lot of poor play where rotation is concerned. We had one match the other night where we won our first mid fight, and were fairly well ahead. I ping close because I saw enemy heading there (as ele I stayed mid), then EVERY single person we had in mid, except me, went close. I said, “don’t all go close, please”… nothing. I was then 4 man-ganked mid, with them too slow to respond and we lost mid.

We then went on to lose the match because 2 guards were glued to each other and wherever one went, the other followed, no matter what. This kind of play really really annoys me.

@SolarDragon is also bang on about thieves. Another match we had a thief perpetually went far, nowhere else, far. He died over and over and over again and STILL went far and we tried to tell him to rotate and keep an eye close, help mid as and when opportunity arose, maybe steal boss and at the end he said “you all talked too much”.

Only started really getting into this season a few days ago, already, personally I find this season better than 1 and 2. I completely understand part of this is luck but on the same note, I do feel I improved a lot in last season whilst grinding my way to Ruby. I too was seemingly ‘stuck’ at the end of Sapphire last season, with a 50/50 win/loss and I was getting nowhere, but I kept on and was boosted with a whopping 12 wins straight. My best win streak this season has been 6 I think.

I think they do need to be more understanding where there are DCs. The problems come when people who know their internet has been unstable and continues to be so go and try a ranked match. But its impossible to tell those people from the person that’s been completely internet stable all day and then gets a spike in PvP.

But something needs to be done, ESPECIALLY when we run tests and its NC soft side issues and not the individual.

Ele too powerful in team play

in PvP

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

The problem is with poor team mates not focussing the ele. I was playing last night with my ele, teamed with my husband who was scrapper. We got wiped in mid initially, and I was so disappointed in our team (and myself actually). Then he and I went far since mid was lost, hubby stole boss (obviously in forest), then we sat there the entire match while they ALL, and I mean ALL tried to wipe us.

Each of us went down just once, but we were both able to rez one another. Our team capped close and mid, got the bosses, and we won very easily 501-168ish if I recall.

In this scenario, it was clear they weren’t all focussing one target. If I were on the opposition, I’d have gone elsewhere to start with, but if they wanted their home back that badly they should’ve called target on me, and wiped me out. It would’ve been easy to do but they weren’t all focussing either of us exclusively. I had to run a bit off point to heal at one point, and just 1 of them followed me, and no ranged from the rest that were on point. An attunement switch and ‘Aftershock’ later, I was back to full health – back in the fight.

One of the biggest things I want to happen if I am against 1 or 2 eles, is grab close and mid before they step on it. If they do, call target and get the group to focus them but not be blind to the scrapper that’s procced trait Elixir S and will go down with a few select hits. Once you start to pick the group, the rest will/should fall. But you need to try and be quick enough so they don’t respawn fast enough to become a problem again. But to be honest, if that happens, we’re spending too much time trying to fight the opposition with just one point ours, so someone is often better trying to break free to snatch far. It is all about communication, map awareness and rotations.

Fully dependant on scenario of course, but focussing and calling those targets is basic IMHO.

Rerolling yourself all the time can be extremely frustrating, yes. You need to hope the other Tempest knows what they’re doing and how to play the class. I’ve rerolled sometimes to have them be utterly useless. I feel more confident in my own ability than someone I don’t know to have the guts to reroll, sad but true and I’m not claiming to be awesome.

That said, I have little issue with 2 of the same class, when it goes to 3, a quick discussion of a reroll should occur.

It only seems to happen (weirdly) when I play my elementalist. I get stuck, I’m not immobilized, I’m not in any CC. My husband found a ‘temp fix’ to do “/bow” (or whatever) but when I am keeping 4 busy far, it’s highly inappropriate, and having my hands as fists (as a lot of you know by now, due to my disability [EB]), it’s kitten ed difficult to do an emote during a match. How I stay alive is thanks to the op survivability and/or bad opposition I can only suspect. My ele is my most mobile class when in a tight fight if that makes any sense. I am aware it happens to others but I notice it most on this class.

I don’t know for definite, but in this last match I noticed it after I was pushed back by a Guardian. Also in this last match I had to do an emote 4 times. I have a screenshot, but it has another team mate’s name in there and I don’t want to spend time right now trying to block it out.

This is really getting on my nerves now; apparently there are Reddit posts and others from 2-3 years ago about it. Is there any sign of a fix?

Oh and if anyone is wondering, we won lol 501-168

How to thief better?

in PvP

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

So did you actually want advice or are you just going to counter what everyone else has told you with your reasoning and excuses?

Personally think that’s a little harsh. Just because he’s giving reasons to his movements doesn’t mean he’s not taking on board what people are saying.

As has been said above, thief requires a lot of knowledge about other classes and I think its fair enough he may seem a little slow at first because he’s trying to learn. Sometimes going in all guns blazing doesn’t help that much because you become uncertain as to why or how something may have worked or didn’t work. I was the same when learning thief and I tried a butt ton of different builds.

I think you’re brave for posting footage and people should listen to reasons why you did certain things not only for making sense of it, but also to offer additional advice from what you’ve given in your reasoning.

It’s probably all been said now, but from me: setting ground target at max range (in options) helped me immensely with quick SB 5s to get around, not sure if you have that on or not, I couldn’t tell. Also, try and learn the quicker ways around the map (but I am more than sure you a) know that already and b) that’s been mentioned LOL.

Best of luck mate, it’s a breath of fresh air seeing this section of the forum being used in a positive way.

Necro is also weak in PvP. Normally the first target to get focused down because they have no sustain.

Reapers/Necros are targeted first because they’re strong. If you let a Reaper build up his/her lifeforce, it’s going get difficult against conditions and cc. They are strong at rezzing too.

Like ele, I get focussed a lot on good teams because I can keep my team alive and hold points. I know I am against a good team if I need to heal myself.

Class stacking is one of my single biggest pet hates in PvP and I made a thread about it before this season started.

It’s not allowed in pro league so why should we put up with it? I don’t care if queue times are longer, so long as I don’t get put against 3+necros on a premade guild team using voice chat.

When I play with my guild mates I don’t allow more than 2 of the same class.

Okay, watched the video footage. I’m not going to comment on actual play of either mesmer or PvP because people have already offered constructive criticism.

What I noticed was a lot of camera movements, which by and large must be to do with her disability and massive credit to her a) not dying, and b) getting to Sapphire!

If I may add a couple of tips using my own playstyle taking my own disability into account. Remember I am playing with 2 fists (not one hand so still completely different).

1) I think it would help if she set a keybind for ‘nearest target’, I have mine set to “C” and I click it to select a target, ctrl U to call target, T to take target and TAB to go through targets (so if there’s a minion necro, I’d click C and TAB to find the necro. It is quick enough and hopefully others will call target too.

2) For things like blinking, I think it would help to “lock ground target to maximum skill range”. This gave me a brand new lease of life when aiming for Champion Shadow, to help get my thief around fast with SB 5. AND with mesmer blinking. It helps when getting onto shortcut walls and so on.

3) If she’s not yet done so I really think an MMO mouse would help very much. If she learned to move her character holding the two mouse buttons down (right mouse to just look around, two mouse buttons to run etc) she could do this and click skills at the same time, or at least I am sure much easier. [Edit] We’ve found out an MMO mouse is in use so I’d like a little more info on how she uses the mouse to be in a position to comment and/or help.

It seemed for me she has chosen mesmer to try and hide behind clones, and hell, why not! I did that for some time while getting used to PvP and if people are not good at finding the real mesmer, it can work. But on the face of it not all skills were utilized well and I do think she did very well, and moving slower could’ve actually helped her in that clones move slower too thus giving the enemy a harder time finding the real her (albeit she is using signets and you should be able to tell from that)…

I still think a sustain build like ele, with a team of understanding people around her should help and for her to try and stay calm when others make mistakes because after all, we’re not all perfect and it is kitten ed hard when you have a disability trying to strive to be a good PvPer but solo queue is always going to be a huge gamble.

People have offered to queue with you Ithilwen, my husband and I would offer to do so as well and I 100% would be happy to help with any builds that may suit you more, or indeed show you my ele. We are on EU servers.

This thread has massively changed from what was initially in discussion, but I genuinely hope Ithilwen takes this as positive because there are enough people here trying to help. If we can’t together get Ithilwen out of any loss streaks, then we can discuss MMR hell again

[edit] Also, my quick “look behind me” key is set to V (changed it from its original ‘dodge’ key. This is essential (for me) when running off points to aid elsewhere to check a decap behind, and other situations.

It shows the disgusting difference in skill Ithilwen has with an upper division player. She has been making threads throughout the seasons about how she is stuck because “MMR HELL!!!!” and how the game favors certain players, then she finally posted a video of her playing and its as bad as you can imagine. I very well know the game is not balanced on 1 v 1, but it will clearly show the skill gap. Anything in a 5 v 5 would just result in “ahhh my team was so bad why can’t I grind out games oh woe is me.”

It still doesn’t mean much though imo, because PvP is a team game and 1v1s don’t count for all the other things you need to focus on in a PvP match. It’ll show whether she can beat whoever in this 1v1 but that doesn’t really display what is happening in a match.

It does strike me as a shame though if people saying she abuses team members is true. Yes we all get peed off from time to time but being rude most certainly won’t help her circumstances and or team morale. But, I’ve no evidence she does this (yet) aside from forum members telling me so.

I also agree that people do have to have a sense of perspective. Getting to the end of Ruby last season made me feel pretty awesome. To even get to rank 80 in PvP last year felt awesome because I know how bad it was for me trying to play PvE when I first started… 3 day jumping puzzle anyone? LOL… BUT when I figured out my keybinds and the ways in which I could move my character and do skills at the same time life got a lot more easy and a heck of a lot more fun.

I am competitive in PvP and I’d love to get to legendary, but if I got to Diamond and felt that was my cap because of my disability, ye, it sucks, but its life. However, I don’t know this is the case yet and I’m not sure how I could tell properly, but let’s see.

Where is this scrutinized video ?

That’s very kind of you Celine. Ok Ithilwen, how about trying out Tempest and use the D/F Aura Share build. Celine’s offered to give you some pointers on it, if you message her in-game.

You might find more success with Ele/Tempest, as it might be less awkward for you to play. Try it out and see how things go.

Yeh, I’d be more than happy to. @Ithilwen, just message me if you read this and fancy having a look at the auramancer. I know it may not be what you want to do, but the offer is there. Plus any tips on key-binds or ways to maveouvre your character too, I’d be more than willing to share.

Believe me… taping my hand to my mouse so I could achieve the Halloween jumping puzzle for me and my husband (LOL) I can definitely hope to offer ways around things :P

Ithilwen why don’t you try a 1 v 1 vs a legendary player to see if its really matchmaking that boosted them lol.

This wouldn’t prove anything. Firstly, PvP is a team game, secondly, who out of legendary do you choose? The one that’s been carried by premades of 4, or the one that is extraordinarily good? Third you clearly miss her point in that this will clearly be unbalanced and this is what she is saying; that the match making is unbalanced and you’re put against an unfair advantage. So a 1v1 wouldn’t display anything.

This is actually one of the biggest problems in PvP. People are so blind to what is happening across the map. They’re just interested in winning their 1v1s, often off point, not giving two hoots to the fact the enemy has all 3 points and your team is dead. Until people accept its a team effort and act accordingly, solo PvP is a gamble.

Whether this is true or not, I don’t know. But don’t waste forum space adding stupid comments like this.

-snipped for brevity-

Okay this is interesting. I too click on 6-0 skills because I have a rare skin disorder (Epidermolysis Bullosa) which makes my hands scarred and over considerable time have formed mittens (basically playing with two fists). Although my situation will be massively different, I wouldn’t suggest playing engineer, because that can be very button-mashy and trying to reach for F5 is pretty difficult at the best of times, but is made much worse if the OP is going to be mouse clicking (luckily I click all my function keys 99% of the time with my left hand; still not the same as mouse buttons using an MMO mouse, but much better).

Perhaps the way I play may also help the OP. After first playing the game, I struggled very much with moving and fighting. Once I realized I could move my character by holding down my two mouse keys, a new world opened up to me.

Now I mainly use the mouse for movement (alternating between WASD when I can and when necessary), and most of the time skills 6-0. In PvP when things get really hectic, this can alter but if you get used to it, you can play and I guarantee none of you would know you’re playing me unless you knew me and that’s not me being up myself or saying I’m the best player in the world, because I’m not, but not one person has ever commented on slow skills or slow reaction or weird movements.

I did get to almost the end of Ruby last season playing D/F elementalist (auramancer). I am used to ele anyway but I really really enjoy playing this in PvP and most of my success this season comes from playing auramancer ele.

I do hope this helps in some way.

[edit] Though my query from last season still stands: why the majority of team mates fail to do the most simplest of tasks during a PvP match, for example communicate, call target, rotate properly, look behind them (for example, one match recently I was capping tranquility and an ally came to watch over me, completely failed to notice enemies coming in behind her even though I targeted them and we didn’t get the cap. There are some even SIMPLER rules and obvious choices people fail to do during a PvP match and it quite literally baffles me how they are even there.

It sounds like you could probably be one of the most helpful to Ithilwen, given that you’re having to deal with a disadvantage too (sorry to hear about your condition by the way). Do you find playing Ele to be comfortable? I don’t think ithilwen has tried playing it.

Thank you, this is light relief from the post I just read (and responded to!). Yes, I find ele very comfortable to be honest since Tempest came in and auramancer became a meta build. I wouldn’t have so easily achieved Champ Magus without it (all achieved last Season). Before auramancer I literally didn’t like how ele felt in PvP, in so far as I could mash buttons and win a fight but have zero idea what I did, or what the opponent did. I like to know what I am doing. I feel a real help to the team in my heals on attunement swaps and “Wash The Pain Away”. The combo fields are easy to learn (unlike the gazillion the scrapper has: and I felt very comfy with Scrapper until the changes to slick shoes).

The only thing is when you get team mates who don’t understand how the auramancer helps them, or what the auramancer should be doing: for example I have to be always on the move, this means little in the way of stomps (better to cc, help the stomper), fairly high on rezzes when able to. If the team mates don’t fully understand my build it can go pretty wrong. I always tell them what I am and my strengths before the game starts and if they don’t listen, well, what can I do?

But, with only 4 function skills (albeit you’re changing all the time), I still think, with the ability to stay alive, auramancer could be a good one to try. But it all depends on her disability and to what degree. For example I am lucky in that I don’t have to look at the keyboard to find my function skills, and I have gotten very quick and used to the way I maneouvre my character and set off skills: to the degree that I can stay alive on point against 4 until my dead team mates come back (obviously dependant on quality and dps of opposition!).

Also you’re right, team mates do make some really daft decisions. The amount of times I’ve seen people follow another team mate to close at start, or just running into a 3v1 is mind blowing at times. Also found those charming folk, that don’t communicate at any point before (after you’ve initiated a team convo) or during a game, seemingly in their own little world, to only then insult the team at the end of the game before leaving. But I digress.

100000000000000000000000000000000000% agree.

Ithilwen is very attached to Mesmer. She tried Warrior earlier, but I’m not sure if she’s switched back to Mesmer. I’m not sure how much joy she’ll find sticking with Mesmer in PvP. Would you recommend she tries D/F Ele?

Sadly, I am unsure what input I can give here. Warrior bores me really (although this isn’t to say you don’t need skill and an understanding of PvP, rotations, counters, etc etc) but, I would say Warrior is one of the most simplest to play, but it may not suit her playstyle.

I recommend she tries anything really and if she wants to try D/F ele, she is more than welcome to PM me for some advice on combos, when to disengage and how etc. Like I said I don’t claim to be the best player in the world, but I do feel most comfortable with ele and I think I am strongest at this class.

As to posting a video of my gameplay… Not a chance in the ninth circle of hell. I did that last season and got told in game that I should just go kill myself among other things.

This community told me I was garbage in game for weeks after posting a video last season… no chance folks.

Were the responses to your video posts honest or vicious? If honest and they said you was terrible then i would take those comments and advice.

Yes ANET has said one side is favored over the other but they also said the difference is a lot smaller than last season so the weaker team can pull off a win.

From what i remember you have been a mesmer main for a long time now and played Mesmer in Season 1 when it was OP and in season 2 when it was OP and yet every post of yours has been complaints about you losing game after game.

It seems really hard to believe that a person with your amount of experience on what was arguably one of the most OP classes in S1 and S2 is having this much “bad luck”

No doubt some people may have just said rude things, but she did receive a lot of good feedback on where she’s going wrong. For instance, a lot of us pointed out how she hesitates too much when deciding where to go, doesen’t use skills like Portal, which could easily allow quick travel between two points, or disengaging easier etc.

The number one biggest weakness we saw from the footage, was that she clicks on her skills to use them and sometimes had a habit of turning her character with the keys, instead of moving the mouse to quickly look around. She claimed that she clicks on skills, because she can’t use her left hand well, because of an injury and can’t press buttons fast enough because of it.

Taking all this into account, playing Mesmer will be causing her to lose games, or require her to be carried by her team mates. This is why I’ve suggested her using a more sustainable class, like Engi instead of something that requires you to be very dexterous.

Okay this is interesting. I too click on 6-0 skills because I have a rare skin disorder (Epidermolysis Bullosa) which makes my hands scarred and over considerable time have formed mittens (basically playing with two fists). I don’t blame you. It’s pretty dumb people ask for this simply because they want to abuse you and it’s literally not even a fair way of showing your strengths and/or weaknesses because it’d be one or two matches at most, which massively depends on your team as well as you, is dependant on the opposition too and not only that, you’re human and you could be having a few off moments. None of which these are taken into account by the slaters who ask for such video. They purely want to pick at you and not actually discuss the problem as it stands.

As for match making this season, I’ve personally found it to be slightly better. Last season I didn’t find my feet until I hit Ruby and I went on a crazy winning streak while sadly my husband was stuck at a 20+ loss rate in Sapphire which didn’t make it fun for him at all, nor competitive. I have previously said that I was hellishly grinding at a 50/50 win/loss ratio for ever (it seemed) and then all of a sudden, I was winning and it didn’t stop until almost the end of Ruby. Did I suddenly get better? Or, was it matchmaking luck?

I also agree with you that it has been shown that one team will always have the advantage in the initial algorithm set up and I agree that this is unfair regardless of how well you consider yourself to be as a player.

There is a big general issue outside of this (and inclusive) – since the elite specs have made everyone super killing machines, a lot of champion event chains, event farms like Frostgorge Sound are becoming so frustrating especially for people loading on slower computers because once you get there the things are dead and you get no credit (and believe me, I know about this because I was running on a very slow pc for the game until recently). People say things like “keep up” or “know the waypoint rotation” but I’m sorry, since when should wanting to take part in a few random champs while you level or map complete require this kind of prior knowledge? It just seems pretty unfair. They need to raise champs’ HP IMO.

Picking up has always been an issue for me; like one poster above, I swear a lot of the time my character does the ‘pick up’ animation but the other person gets it. A lot of times it frustrates me that players see other players going for an object, yet still are determined to try and ‘beat you to it’. I just hope, like others that this’ll be around for a while to give me an opportunity to do this event.

Raid teaching runs: Proving accessibility

Any friendly guild on EU servers running this kind of thing? I’ve a Tempest I’m most used to who is full ascended and although am used to s/w can transfer to d/w auramancer healer as specified on metabattle. Only thing I don’t wish to change is my runes. I’ve Strength runes throughout and metabattle asks for scholar. Since she’s full ascended and strength runes are insanely expensive, I don’t want to make a new set :/

I also have a metabattle (for raids) built Revenant (glint/mallyx) he has zero ascended pieces, but is full exotic and is exactly specified on metabattle.

Finally, I have a condi reaper/horror but she is without viper stats so is probably a no go, even though she does insane condi damage. Once the GH is done with Linseed, I can give her viper stuff unless I get drops in the meantime.

Really want to try raiding out though and learn, have fun. My husband also. Please pm me if there are any EU guilds offering teaching runs – would we have to join and 100% rep since I run my own guild?

I just don’t understand why having Ley Gliding is such an issue, when this is way more achievable than having ascended gear and particular builds one may not be as familiar with just to complete a raid. At least with gliding you achieve this by simply playing GW2 and not grinding for half the year to just be accepted into a team to just see what Raiding is like.

Because of this, and the problems @Thaddeus stated above (finding 10 people willing to have a go at any one time), I cannot see myself ever raiding and it does make me sad.

There are a number of achievements that sometimes require you to replay the same part of the story 2 or 3 times (more if you fail) and I agree it would be good to skip a lot of the lengthy dialogue. With old cutscenes you could simply ‘skip’. Because we see ourselves talking and NPCs talking now ‘live’ in-game rather than cutscenes, perhaps a ‘mote’ could be set up which would allow you to skip these dialogues. As was said above it’d be difficult to simply ‘skip’ these since they’re ‘live’ (per se), but as we can have challenge motes, and motes that allow you to retry from certain parts of the step, surely this can be integrated further.

How can we encourage stomping?

in PvP

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

Even all this depends on the situation though.

Stomping should be encouraged, when safe.
When not to stomp
- The middle of a fight with 2 or more enemies around you

This is situational, if the enemy has a good chance of being rezzed you should try for the stomp to eliminate that enemy and really you shouldn’t have 2 or more enemies around you alone so your team should be able to help in achieving the stomp. If you’re outnumbered you’re likely to die anyway. But it depends on your build as to whether you can cope with this many enemies around you and still defend a capped point.

-At the end of the fight when your team has clearly won

This is an issue of respect more than tactics.

When to stomp
- You are in a situation where it is 1v1 and you have an ally downed another enemy is incoming (use stability first) (even this is situational, because you could just go for the rez, but then risk the other person rezzing)

As you say, situational. Sometimes it’s good for the rez even if the enemy is rezzed if you know your team mate and you can kill the 2 enemies better together than trying for the stomp, stability running out and you ending up 2v1. Literally depends on team make up and situation as you say.

- When you’re just sick of that person

LOL… not a tactic but love it :P

- When it will put your team ahead for the quick points

This should be obvious to anyone in ranked PvP :/

- If, and this requires you to pay attention, a quick kill can give your team a needed “power play” situation

You and your team should always be paying attention #facepalm.

There are definitely more scenarios and it does take time to learn when stomping is appropriate to cleaving and it baffles me why people don’t stomp to ensure a rally of an ally. A lot of people seem hungry to show off their finishers too and then we get all the team trying to stomp one person off point while the tank ele steals mid and no one can ever get it back. Nightmare.

How can we encourage stomping?

in PvP

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

As several have pointed out, including myself, not stomping is often a very good tactical choice, as well as the only choice in some circumstances to ensure your entire team isn’t wiped. But I will reiterate; there’s a fine line between knowing when and when not to stomp and people still clearly are unaware of this line.

Just yesterday, we had a situation where people were down (on our team) and one guy was down their team with one of ours up. I shouted for our guy to stomp him, he didn’t and our guy went down and we all died. More to the point, he was fighting him in no man’s land wasting time.

It is often good to choose not to stomp because it tactically delays the opposing team coming out faster to cap etc but you have to have a good sense of what is happening around you to know when to practice this tactic.

Why is Null Field not Stripping a Boon?

Just a quick query here… whilst in Timberline Falls completing an event near Nonmoa Lake where you have to defend “Researcher Gabbi as she readies her new weapon” after the pack bull and a series of Krait come out of the water which you have to defeat.

Most, if not all the Krait had might, and some had regeneration. Not once did my Null Field (traited with Temperal Enchanter) strip either of these boons.

Is this just a particular foe that can’t be boon stripped, or is Null Field broken?

Necro Scepter...

in PvP

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

I disagree. Scepter is the meta for raiding, usually both weapon sets with warhorn on one and dagger the other. For condi, scepter is excellent in PvE and PvP.

Also, “only ranged weapon”? Necro has staff which is its furthest range, axe is kinda mid-range I guess and dagger is melee. I suppose scepter would be in between axe and staff but feel free to correct me on that.

Staff isn’t really a weapon… No one in their right mind would use staff on necro as an actual weapon. It makes an OK opener, spam 4 skills then swap out, or for some utility in PvP, but it does almost no damage, slow, reflectable power based AA, long CD’s, and no damaging conditions. I use it in PvP just for a quick cleanse, chill and fear, then back to scepter. If you get caught in staff with weapon swap CD then you are pretty much done for.

This isn’t true either IMO, staff has some really nice area weakness, you have regen with number 2 helping you and allies with a decent bleed and an okay cd I think. It’s always worked for me. Anyway no weapon on its own is ideal without a build around it, so its kind of a moot point.

Scepter is meta for raiding because of minions, which makes the condition build viable. If bleed minions were removed, or nerfed, then condition necros would be instantly kicked out of the raid meta. Without minions necro dps is around 10k, as opposed to 30k with them.

Also not true: it can be used with minions, but another very viable and meta option is corruptions. I use this in PvE and it is extraordinarily potent. Number 3 scepter and auto attack make for a nice viable option in raids and general PvE. See:

http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Reaper_-_Viper_Horror.

In the end the problem is build diversity across the entire game, this is not a problem that is limited to necro. Every class currently has 1 meta build and 1 meta weapon set.

If you are thinking only meta, then you’re probably right, though there are plenty different builds out there and being played in ESL. People don’t have to go with one thing. Its a misconception that this is the case because everyone goes on about “the meta” when really, if you play about with your character, you can find some very nice, viable builds that synergize well with many team compositions. It’s really down to player preference and understanding of a profession and mechanics.

Necro Scepter...

in PvP

Posted by: Celine.6857

Celine.6857

This is really unspecific? What exactly do you think is OP about scepter necro? This is necros only ranged weapon, and their only condition weapon. It is barely passable in PvE, and would be worthless if not for minions. Since both range and condition are strong in PvP it makes sense they would use it. I don’t see it being out of balance with other ranged and condition options.

But as for the op, sadly you can’t stop people playing what they want and usually its going to be the meta because the majority of players seem to be lacking in their own ability to create different builds.
