Alright, thanks! To be honest, (and I am not dissing Ranger here) I enjoy a more complex build anyway than just simply activating a couple of signets and pewing rapid fire, so I am kinda glad this is the case. I’m simply interested so I can do more PvP dailies LOL…
Thanks very much for this advice.
Thanks for this, I had wondered about the old Power Ranger lol.
All I can do is laugh and feel sad for that person. After all, did it really, like, really make him feel better?! Probably not. So sad.
Please don’t simply reply to this with silly answers. I am intrigued as to what the mature, sensible player thinks…
I have an alt account (not F2P; bought it for storage a year ago when on offer). Lately been playing on it for an extra 2g daily. Easiest win by far for PvP is my minnion master necro, not lost a single match yet and have only died once and that was due to a 300+ ping!
What other non-elite specs (if any) are viable for PvP dailies? I am thinking thief perhaps, the old d/p? I also made an engi using Tool Kit and Juggernaut Flamethrower, but I just don’t feel confident in that.
Literally, this is a “just intrigued” thread.
Thanks!
[Edit] Obviously, playing unranked, just so we’re clear.
Not another GS please -.-… but that spec sounds awesome, gj on that thanks for the effort
@Vinceman
Even though most of your arguments are perfectly legit, this does not excuse the toxicity of the community. Whether you tell someone “Sorry can’t join, we don’t have time to teach people we don’t know” or “Get out you’re too noob [insert random teenager insult]” take the same amount of energy/time.
One is adult, one is just a show off that mostly mean “Hey Im in a guild that did raids so I was able to learn before you did and now you’re stuck hahahaha newb” or something like that. And this is completely ridiculous.
This a game, some people simply forget it, if you’re not willing to help players, that’s indeed your right, but don’t insult them for trying. As you said, everyone plays the way they want, if someone wants to jump into a raid without knowing a kitten about them, it’s also their right, but it doesnt deserve the trash talk.
Could not agree more. Excellent comment.
Sigh. You are part of his problem, not him! I still find it unreal that people in LFG want ‘gear checks’ to do a full run of Ascalonian Catacombs. Come onnn people. Don’t you remember your first dungeons/raids/fracs??
Please, you have to respect everyone’s personal desires ingame. If people want to have gear checks in AC, you have absolute 0 right to intervene. Accept and respect that others want to play like this. You have many opportunities to avoid them and get your own thing done!
Please, you really misunderstand my point. I don’t care how others wish to play, some people prefer a slower-paced game, want to teach others, want everything nowwwwww etc, each person is an individual. I am merely saying that a lot of players out there make it difficult for newbies to the point where I remember feeling nervous to do a dungeon for the first time, worried I’ll get flamed and or kicked. Accept and respect that people are doing things for the first time all the time and if some players try and remember that was once themselves, there will be more patience overall. There is way way too much pressure for people to conform to a ‘meta’ and that is sad imo. Furthermore, people in this thread are finding problems in this regard and so something needs to be done.
There is also a much more appropriate and mature way of dealing with people who don’t understand or don’t read an LFG advertisement. There is absolutely zero need to trash talk or be rude to that person and that kind of behaviour is toxic. Please try and remember you are inviting people, human beings from all walks of life and if they joined an unsuitable group, a simple explanation and kick is much more suitable than annihalating their confidence from the start.

Have you exhausted the idea that it may be you? Maybe you’re not a good or experienced player (Not assuming you are or anything but I had a very easy time getting in to raids with little-no experience). And a really good and very underrated idea imo is if you want to look like a good or experienced player, look like one. Equip all the shinies you have on your character so people know you haven’t just hit lvl 80.
Sigh. You are part of his problem, not him! I still find it unreal that people in LFG want ‘gear checks’ to do a full run of Ascalonian Catacombs. Come onnn people. Don’t you remember your first dungeons/raids/fracs??
I agree entirely with the op, it’s gone completely bonkers and unfair. GW2 has some excellent devoted chilled players too who don’t need to complete a dungeon in 3.5minutes or whatever the hell the idea is to get super rewards and legendary gear crazy fast. Some of us enjoy what the game has to offer and enjoys all the story telling, the pace at which you want to go. This does not make someone a bad player.
My suggestion would be perhaps look for a guild that do raids a lot, people who are willing to show you the way. That’s where we’re lucky but getting 10 of us together for the amount of time a raid takes not even taking into account teaching, is very difficult and I too am anxious to see a raid through.
True, but they did.
In every sport, teams use the off-season to practice, assemble, recruit, learn new tactics etc. They also do practice games and scrims with other teams.
But, if ANET decides to turn ranked play on 24/7 to make a minority of hardcore competitive players happy then there is a better way to do it.
I propose adding the options Unranked Play and Solo-Q Ranked 24/7 and then a Team-Q Ranked option only playable during seasons.
This, because one of the most frustrating things about current ranked play is being part of a group of soloQ players and get matched against premades with voice comm etc… There’s no sense of fairness or true competition in that. And at the end of the day, the vast majority of the player base prefer soloQ anyway (see the snowball?)
I didn’t think solo queuers could be matched with a full premade now?
I was sooo confused and sad when S1 started and there was no Ranked. I always felt that Unranked was poorly matched and I hate hate hate Skyhammer. But, I am between camps right now. I feel like Unranked out of seasons gives you an opportunity to try new things without being set on by your team mates being called ‘noob’ all the time when they don’t know you or your skills from Adam. But, if you’re being placed with unbalanced teams, you can’t accurately determine any new builds well. So there are fors and against already.
As for people saying unranked brings more ‘chilled’ players. I agree that if they ’don’t care’ about their team/winning then it is less competitive, but if they aren’t shouting at one another causing horrendous team morale which is more likely to yield a big loss is not a bad thing. People in ranked during the season would say things like “well I’ve no pips to lose, I don’t care, I go AFK” so although that’s bad sportsmanship on their side, its a similar situation for the rest of the team and is certainly not fun for those who CAN lose pips. I felt things dramatically change as I went on an incredible win streak through Ruby. I felt it was more fast paced, fewer bust games either side, more supportive team mates, more communication – BECAUSE you have more to lose in Ruby. So, in fairness I don’t genuinely feel like much would change player mindset-wise should Ranked be there off-season.
I also don’t understand what people are saying about rewards? How are rewards different for ranked vs unranked? I still progress through the same reward track and still work towards my achievements and titles…
I am therefore undecided. But, simply due to match choices, I’d definitely still just play Ranked off-season if it was available, and would play Unranked for trying new builds, which is how it should be anyway, imo.
(edited by Celine.6857)
That’s sad. Players, if entering a competitive match should be waiting ready and alert. Not Anets fault.
You don’t balance classes. You either make them op or unviable.
Scrapper and Reaper were too strong and instead of adjusting those classes you make them pretty much unviable.
Druid and Eles sustain seems entirely overpowered now after Reapers are gone, Mesmer didn’t even got touched while Revenant nearly remains the same as before.
Next patch you probably will kill two other classes while making others overpowered. You are just unable to find a healthy midway.
Wrong, the healthy midway IS to completely gut the elite specs. The only problem is that they didn’t hard nerf mesmer tempest rev etc. as they should have.
I agree. From personal experience of playing ele during S2, any class any class should not be allowed to have the sustain, dps, maneouvrability, cc, condi-cleanse, team buff as ele does. I have been in literally insane situations where I should not have survived, but did.
As for Scrappers, I think the HT nerf was long overdue, but as for other nerfs I feel like we’re going to be saying good-bye to what should be ‘The Scrapper’. Already, I have altered my weapon to Rifle (as a try-out) because I feel Hammer gets dodged too much by ranged and/or more mobile opponents and other than Elixir-Gun, I’ve no option, and you really can feel the squishiness of melee range attacks even with the stuns and options you have with Hammer. At least Slick Shoes helped keep those more maneouvrable classes close to your best attacks. I am still trying different things though and am interested to see what people come up with.
But even after all these changes and whatever changes we encounter in the future, the real crooks is matchmaking. If your team doesn’t have the power to counteract a 5 man crowd control hit, you’ve no chance of gaining/holding any capture point and the same goes for dps/bunker/survivability… yesterday I played a match where 3 of us (solo queue) couldn’t kill an elementalist. And, that has happened to me too but the other way around (i.e. me being the unkillable ele) – it shouldn’t be allowed.
My husband says Anet has a favouritism towards ele… is he right? Can… worms… open?
[edit]
As for Reapers, I don’t know really even now what all the fuss has been about with them. Aside from there being too many of them (and that is a class-stacking issue, which I HATE), I never had any real hard issues with any one Reaper on their own and that can be said for most classes, if not all I would say.
(edited by Celine.6857)
holy hell are u playing gw2 in 8bit?
LMAO, no, my hubby says it’s 16bit :P LOL.
Solid advice and definitely a great comeback.
And really, games where you’re at a big disadvantage are really valuable, even if you don’t edge out a big comeback.
I guarantee you that you’ll learn more from games you lose than from games you win. If you take bad situations as a learning opportunity, you’re not only more likely to change a game to a win after a rough start, but you’re also more likely to log off the computer and feel like you had an enjoyable experience.
I mean, after all, you paid money for this game. You get a lot more bang from your buck when you can adapt yourself to enjoy the challenges it provides instead of letting it become the reason for your bad day.
And really, good players are good players because they play well. Winning is just the side effect. If you want to play well, focus on you, not the score.
This is absolutely 100% fantastic advice and I agree with you wholeheartedly. Thank you for your comments.
In respect of what devs could do to stop AFKers or lame quitters, I don’t think there’s an answer. It’s just purely bad sportsmanship and is very sad. We had a match the other night where, just because a thief ran far on Khylo and got pretty much instantly killed, he started calling us very very rude names and said he was going AFK. I encouraged my husband and the team to not bite to his nonsense and to try and encourage him through to keep playing. He half-heartedly played the entire match and we only lost by around 50 points. If he hadn’t have had such a bad tantrum, we would’ve won. It drives me nuts.
and stop dogde and double dogde just to get there 1/2 sec faster . its a really bad habbit.
That clicking hurts my eyes
Just an accidental double click… sorry for your eyes lol
@Celine.6857:
I won’t comment on how to play ele as i main thief and i wouldn’t dare to do so. So just general remarks:
- begin of the match – you are ele, your job is sit on point and support teammates – yet you went to stomp downed guy somewhere away from point when you already had teammates follow dead guy -> don’t do it, it is not your main job unless guy got downed on point
I will say one thing here – try to remember this is one match only. It is easy to comment on something when you’re not the one playing. In this instance you’re absolutely right, but during that match I actually didn’t notice the other guy who was there – and I was unaware he was watching to go and stomp. Usually, I literally help down people and run to help elsewhere, I hate wasting my skills to stomp. This is solid advice.
- you wiped enemy at begin, chances are they will spawn and might rush your home -> send someone there to watch it right after you wiped enemy team (and yep it got decapped while i was typing this lol)
- for point above, if enemy has semi decent thief your home will be ALWAYS decapped you have to dedicate someone (druid preferably) to sit between home and mid to go to home fast enuff <<tell it to your teammates
These are things my TEAM should be aware of; its not my position to tell everyone what to do, and more to the point, I am desperately hitting skills with basically one big finger, let alone able to type every second to tell everyone what to do. Again though, solid advice. I ALWAYS ALWAYS tell any team beforehand if there is an opposition thief to watch close.
- once again you fight/ran off point when enemy came mid. Rule number 1 in conquest point > all. Don’t fight off roads, always keep your point in vision so you can charge there to hold it in time. You are ele not thief or rev to chase enemies.
VERY good point in this particular match, yes. However, my other team mate who was also mid, did also run off point. Again remember, this is one match in hundreds I’ve played differently, some better, some a lot worse lol
- set targets (use keybind for it) it will help team to focus one guy. Usually ele is not a good target, focus dps first.
This was one of the points I put in my original comment to this thread. I set a list of things PvPers don’t do. When very hectic like this, it is hard for me to find and call the correct target. But, if I can do it on occasion why doesn’t anyone else?
- mid was lost, it was good to go far for sure
Thank you, I appreciate that. After reviewing the vid with my husband, he also said the same thing. I expected people here to flame that decision and to say I should’ve helped close. But, close was fine and I did decap far. Thanks for that.
- once again you are too busy with stomping instead of trying to decap point, you have knockbacks and CC, use them; you could have had decap at mid but you chose to go off point and stomp some guy
I’m not entirely sure where you mean here, if this was mid after I decapped far, I didn’t stomp anyone, I merely helped my team mates by overloading air. It does look like I am high animation of a stomp though. I was also positioning myself to be close to my team mates for help and to be there should they be interrupted. Yes you can see the ‘F’ to stomp, but I am actuall just overloading air.
But, if you’re talking about the ele on far, the only reason I went for them is because I can blink up to him to eliminate him as fast as possible, whereas the necro can’t. Again, I will only stomp if literally no one else is/can.
- you saw that your necro was going far, you should have stalled enemy ele instead of leading him to far point
I actually disagree with this. This would have caused me to be fighting off point, and we eliminated the ele faster because we were 2 on the ele before others came out. Maybe he could’ve had more time to cap, but then we’d have had 2v2. I believe I did right here. We can agree to disagree
- once again you guys leave home open all the time and enemy thief can decap it all day
Again not my fault, but here – this was where I did actually manage to type in chat (and you can’t see this due to my crap quality) “KEEP HOME” – that is one of the reasons we turned that match round to win. The guard did do well though to decap mid before this.
- once again at the end of the video you leave point for offroads fights, don’t do that – far got decapped because of it
I disagree with this 100%, for this match. If I hadn’t have gone for boss, we’d have lost the match. That was what tipped it for a win. I was in two minds whether to help my team mate with the boss, or just prevent the ele getting her foot on the boss, but I thought, to hell with it, this is basically luck now – we get the boss we win, they get it, they win… and 2 of us on the boss… we won. If this had been much earlier in the match, no way would I have left the point when one guy is already trying to grab boss, definitely better to keep the point, I agree.
Thank you for the feedback and I hope others read some of it as most of it, is what my team mates are doing…
(edited by Celine.6857)
I recently recorded a few PvP matches because of a different thread topic in this zone of the forum. The same video has been posted there for the relevance to that topic. But at the same time, this video displays a massive lesson to those who decide to go AFK, or ‘rage’ because they believe that you are going to lose. Usually this happens after the said grumpy person loses their first fight, but also it happens quite into a match when the score can seem so dire that nothing can save you.
Regardless as to whether that is true, I believe you should always keep fighting, keep pressing and play ’til the end, win or lose: and, this shows… you might just win!
Apologies for the poor quality… old pc, not made for gaming blah blah… don’t wish to keep repeating myself!
I have lost count at the number of games we’ve lost (my husband and I queue together when not a guild team).
It does quite simply make it, not fun.
But, why are we losing? Why do people we queue with do some of the most stupidest things we ever see IN PvP, such as:
- Not have the BASIC knowledge of capping and defending two points
- Not having the ENTIRE team leave mid to go and help a 1v1 on close, leaving mid free for the 4 others on the enemy team
- Not watch the kitten map and see who needs help and where
- Not efficiently rotate
- Not CALL OR FOCUS targets
- What is with the NEED for an entire team to stomp ONE downed player rather than working as a team and working around the others on the node to prevent rezzes or CCs or, idk, here’s a radical thought, finish ANOTHER downed player, or rez a team mate, or GET BACK ON THE POINT if decapped
- Not discuss strategy beforehand
- Not communicate throughout match, aside from flaming players
- Go AFK because they lose their own first fightThese BASICS we seem to lack, whoever is on our team. Wherever we go, the other team has the coordination and the back-up and our team is screwing around suiciding themselves going into a 1v4 mid one after the other coming out of base. It makes no sense.
Or is it us?!
What don’t you make a gameplay video for both you and your husband? Yes people have been tough on OP (justifiably so) but also gave him some very good feedback, if you’re brave enough record some gameplay so we can see where the problem is.
Here we are, finally. PLEASE note the following:
- My PC is not a gaming PC (hoping to upgrade this year) so please please accept apologies for the poor quality. It took all night to upload and is better quality without sound. But you can see my skills, you can see others’ and their icons, you just can’t read their names and chat (which is probably fair) anyway!
Also, this is one match. I recorded about 4 others, but the time it takes to upload, I just can’t justify posting more. I recall this particular ‘round’ of PvP, I won 2 and lost 3. Our current win/loss ratio is much more 50/50 which leaves us hanging at the end of Sapphire right now.
Before reaching Sapphire, we would be in that MMR HELL of the worst lose streak ever. But, the problem I am experiencing now is that I am getting too much of a win/loss ratio of 50/50. So, I am not getting the boosts I need to progress. I was stuck in T4 of sapphire for over two weeks. I’d win 2, lose 1, win 1, lose 2, win 1… and so on. I literally felt I had a brick wall of 2 or 3 pips into that tier.
I FINALLY made it to T5 last night and am hoping I get an actual win streak to shoot me through to Ruby.
On another note, one of our fairly new guild mates is convinced it is me or my build when I know it’s not. I am rank 80, he is rank 30ish and is almost out of Ruby. Does he get matched with ‘easier’ opponents? I hate to use the word ‘easier’ but, I am just wondering since the same has happened with another guildie who is rank 60 or so and believes that is the case.
I too am bored, like BORED with greatswords everywhere, but pistol, for a rev? Nah. Scepter I can see happening, I like that idea.
Bigger issue: give us a trident please.
This is a first, while I feel for eles being thrust into the support role, the only time I would consider asking an ele to change is if we have too many.
This would be the only reason, yes. And, this should be for any class.
I am usually against QQing but… well this time I have to! I know that eles are crap these days… I used to kill anyone but now I feel like paper and not even one with sharp edges.
WHAT? I play D/F auramancer ele and feel absolutely AWESOME. Best I’ve ever ever felt as an ele. You can heal your team mates, sustain yourself, AND deal some insane damage and CC. It is one of the best classes atm.
But the thing that bothers me the most is the racism against eles. When people see an ele in their team they will ask you to change, they will cry asking you to play something useful or they will quit! True story!
NOT true story. This is absolute utter nonsense. Since S2 of league, 95% of my matches I have played ele and not ONCE have I ever ever been asked to switch. I agree there are quite often 3 necros but this is absolute utter nonsense. I think you’ve been having a bad dream and think its real lol.
I have so many ele racism stories but I will share one that happen yesterday.
Sorry but even using the word ‘racism’ here is hilarious.
Second fight me and some necro were fighting 2v2. The enemies were focusing me and I was running like a kitten! Still I don’t know how the necro gets downed, I rush to rez but I was out of stability… I lost him… then I manage to finish the guardian and downed the other guy but I was downed as well and some guy passed and finished me. When I spawned I see the chat and the necro was saying “Septer ele? You suck! I’ll go afk” and he did… oO
Maybe try a different build… I def don’t see many scepter eles… you gotta be really clever with that Dragon’s Tooth to land any sort of decent damage.
It doesn’t feel good when people blame you even for their own fails. And this is because as an ele you might play godly but still you are not good enough to kill a medium meta necro, engi, revenant, guardian etc. and everyone knows that. You can be the best in your team and if you loose the will say something like what I guy said today “we lost because of you eles, because you didn’t change to something useful”.
Not true. End of. I can hold a node for minutes and eventually bring any sustained build down, or wait for team mates. I can also help massively win the first mid fight through insane attunement change heals and other ways to keep the team alive. Obsidian Flesh is just the best skill too for securing stomps/rezzes. If the other team don’t know to focus me first, we will win the mid fight. If they KNOW to focus me and kill me, the rest will fall like dominoes.
And, this isn’t me or my skill I am bigging up here, although you have to know when and where to do things, but its the BUILD. The build, is, amazing.
This comment in its entirety to me is utter, complete and utter nonsense.
Or is it us?!
This will sound harsh, but it’s probably you.
And that’s not because you don’t end up with terrible teams. The truth is, everyone ends up with terrible teams. When terrible players end up in a game, it’s not because there’s some line of logic in the matchmaking algorithm that says “There’s Celine and their husband. kitten those two!”.
Hahaha, thanks but it’s not me. If it were me I wouldn’t be pointing out the obvious tactics/strategies above for a start. I also know that I, and MOST even pro-league players aren’t perfect, but no way am I a bad player – I would class myself as above-average with human tendancies to have the odd off-day! But that doesn’t answer my overall question of why teams don’t follow the SIMPLE and FUNDAMENTAL rules I stated in my post.
The majority of issues comes down to poor communication – the better a team communicates, the better the overall game is, regardless. Also, I literally JUST played a match against 3 eles. I was only ele my side. I told the team at the start “they have lots of sustain, tactics anyone?” and one clever soul said “just die, it’s a loss”. We turned the match around from 200 or so to 430 or so, to win. Often people just give up at the beginning and this particular match, THOUGH RARE, I KNOW, shows that you MUST never give up. Push and you may just win, or in the very least not lose sooo badly.
I will aim to show this, and my overall ability when I was asked to post game-play….
Which comes to my query… as I already said, my pc is low-end, wasn’t built for gaming (aiming to purchase a new one this year) and on top of this our upload internet is beyond useless. I’ve recorded 3 matches so far, won 2 lost 1… I do want to upload these to show everyone but they are all extraordinarily large circa 1.5g. Does anyone know of a good program that could compress it without losing too much quality so I can upload to youtube, or whatever without it taking about 5 decades to upload?
Also. It seems to me that he has a very shallow understanding of the ele class and how to play and react. I’d suggest going to pve and playing tough opponents, like mobs that are higher level than yourself, or elites/soloing champs. If need be, if you are level 80, unequip everything except a lower level weapon and try to kill a large group of 80 mobs, such as the Sons of Svanir tower event in Frostgorge.
I couldn’t agree more about this. Although of course PvE is hugely different TO PvP, I learned MOST of my combos, and counters through leveling and exploring PvE which then when taken to PvP were utilized nicely as I learned through unranked against different classes and builds. Great comment. Advice that should be taken.
I have lost count at the number of games we’ve lost (my husband and I queue together when not a guild team).

I didn’t quote my entire message above to discard any clutter.
Although my PC sadly only allows low settings and recording will be low quality, I’d gladly, HAPPILY do so. Because even if it turns out to be us, we’d like to know! No one is perfect of course and we all make mistakes but I value my husband and I to be above average for sure.
In the words of de terminator… I’ll be back…
I think the mist npc-ele can contribute better to a win than you did
Rofl.
Jokes aside, OP is playing ele as if he’s in the tutorial stage of the class, not even once during that entire game did he use fire/earth attunment, the entire game he keeps masturbsting on air/water and only using air overload (tons of dmg) out of combat I’m guessing for swiftness?
Combo fields, blast finishers, evade frames, lava font + meteor shower on point (offense is sometimes the best defense), bad positioning as ranged class, I can go on and on and on all day… Most of it has already been said.
Sorry I can’t be more constructive but this just shows how ridiculous the system is as this dude should have clearly stayed in the early stages of Amber but with a tiny bit of luck and a little bit of help from the comeback pip we may seeing the OP soon in Ruby… Which will be horrible for both the OP and the people teamed with him.
If the system was working properly OP would have stayed in Amber having a blast with his own kind with probably a 50% win ratio and never having a 40 game lose streak.
It isn’t the matchmaking’s fault it’s this mish-mash of a reward track system for a league that some people mistake for a ladder is the fault.
The problem is that the damage output on the other team is so high that I am forced to stay in water attunement for the regen buff that my traits give me. As ele you kind of have to be in the center of the field especially with my build because of the way some of the traits work and because of how overload works.
new video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqxIoHT0oyY&feature=youtu.be
I have played several ele builds and the video of the staff ele… is that supposed to be evidence of good play?
No team support, huge lack of combos, jumping into mid without any defense, HARDLY EVER changing attunements, badly misplaced aoe, bad targeting… AND I saw you mist form as someone was rezzing you – okay if you’re literally about to get stomped, you have to do that, but that guy almost had you up dude, don’t mist form just because that’s a button you can press.
I can’t believe the lack of attunement changes and I don’t agree that the above statement is a good enough reason. I think you need to change your build IF that is the case because you aren’t at all making the most of your abilities in the slightest. You stay in air a lot of the time, you didn’t try and prevent the stomp on your team mate by using air skill #3, I didn’t see you use earth #3 at all to negate some projectiles.
I really am not trying to be horrible, but you do need to revisit this and practice practice practice. You’ll get there.

Basically, what the thread title says. I need not say much more. Solo queue, you can’t really avoid although I know the system tries its best to match without 3 or more of the same class.
But, guilds/premade teams. This is by far one of the most irritating things to have your guild, of which I proudly refuse to class stack, comes up against 3 Reapers and 2 Dragon Hunters (for example). Especially when 2 or sometimes the 3 Reapers take their entire army with them.
And before anyone says the most stupid thing I ever hear “stop crying”, I am not ‘crying’, I simply think this should NOT be allowed. I heard that pro-league doesn’t allow it, so why should we endure this nonsense?
It is a shame guilds feel they have to stack really hard core classes to feel they have an opportunity to win and perhaps I should just get with the crowd and go full MM team. Idk, it is just infuriating.
Simply please make it so that if a guild tries to enter ranked queue with 3 or more of the same class have a pop up say that there are two many of one class and so the guild/premade is forced to swap. I know this wouldn’t stop them swapping in-game, so give dishonor for that too!
SOMETHING. Please.

Irrelevant. It also requires 500 hard wood planks, hundreds of orbs, 4900 mithril ingots, and 4900 elder wood planks, but in spite of requiring all these mats won’t let me go in there and do my daily farming run.
In other words it requires a ton of a lot of stuff, of which PvP potions are only one very small part. [/quote]
Those materials are irrelevant… you can appreciate the need for those mats, like in the real world, needing wood and so on. The mine doesn’t ask for PvP reward potions, the tavern doesn’t, the WvW centre doesn’t, that asks for WvW reward stuff because it is to do with WvW.
Regardless, it’s still stupid to have an arena for people to test out their PvE builds on each other and it baffles me as to why people wanted that. You can’t test out your PvE build on another player… that is PvP!
Someone else has said above we may as well have fun with it: believe me, we will. I am just not happy with the setup and think its pretty silly. But, it doesn’t matter what I think if I am the minority. Although I do agree that in what was also said above regarding WvW and a toggle facility would be a good idea so people can have the best of both worlds and try out their WvW stuff as well as PvE against each other for whatever reason that is lol.
From what I can see, it’s not called a Guild PvP Arena, but a Guild Arena. That would be clue one.
So helpful, thank you!! I guess, we’ll just have to buy back our actual PvP Arena we had for a year LOL… but all the upgrades for the Guild Arena take tokens also so its going to be hard to maintain again… but we gotta do what we gotta do I guess!
It still makes me ponder why people wanted an arena to test out PvE builds on each other… surely that is PvP! PvE build can be tested in, erm, PvE LOL… perhaps I am too old to understand
.
Thanks very much.
My guild loves it for WvW training against classes that we are weak against
Hang on a sec; it’s not called a ‘PvE Arena’ either and people have different builds for WvW too, so my same argument applies there also! Does your guild therefore alter their builds for training in this “free for all, but not PvP arena” then? Or, does it so happen that their PvE builds are the same as for WvW, because I’d find that worrying.
WvW also is erm PvP on a larger and more tactical scale imo.
Oh and talking of ‘clues’ to what the arena is for… and apparently there are tons of “clues” to tell me its not for PvP training… then why for goodness sake, why does it take Potions of PvP reward and PvP Time Tokens to build and also to build further upgrades. Surely that makes the meaning of this arena extraordinarily erroneous regardless of what’s on the Wiki!
From what I can see, it’s not called a Guild PvP Arena, but a Guild Arena. That would be clue one.
Clue Two: The Guild Arena is run and maintained by an Arena Proprietor. It is an area for guild members to use as a combat sandbox and customize it with obstacles and traps. New strategies or tactics may be tested and practiced by Guild Teams and members, but no rewards are available. Heart of Thorns Expansion is required to use the Guild Arena since interaction with an arena coordinator NPCs is required.
Doesn’t say anything about being a PvP arena there either.

Our small guild just managed to create the guild arena. We were excited about this as we had a custom arena, but the upkeep of that, plus the costs needed to build items in the guild hall meant it wasn’t worth keeping. Plus, we thought “we’ll have our guild arena soon!”.
On entering the arena we noticed, suddenly that we couldn’t have our PvP builds in there. WHY?
Irrespective of using it as a testing ground (because I can appreciate ArenaNet want people to keep spending and using custom arenas) why on earth can’t this area be similar to PvP where our builds are separate? Because:
1) For all classes I play in PvP, I need a new set of armour now? New sigils, new runes?
2) You can’t access PvP only runes/sigils.
3) What is it actually for then? Who keeps score? If its not a training ground, what is it?
If one were wanting to test new builds, you just cannot do this at all.
I really hope something changes with this, because we’ve just spent so much time, materials, effort and gold on something that is quite literally simply a ‘talking point’ and is entirely useless to us.
This is another in a long line of issues and grievances we’ve had with the new guild and GH systems. I have NEVER been so disappointed.
I wanted to give some feedback, glad to see a thread on the actual gw2 forums with a red. (This coming from someone who worked into sapphire and almost done)
Matchmaking is fine (once you play up to your league). But leading up to that, you will have such bad games, most players will want to quit. I did, I was so tired of 37-500, 60-500, etc games. They are beyond boring. Now, I haven’t had a game where the enemy didn’t score at least 200 points, and many 4XX-500 games. The matches have gotten a lot more competitive as I move up the league.
So the problem is the season start. It was terrible, so here are my suggestions:
1) Keep league rewards, but seperate them from divisions. We need a pip based reward track that simply tracks our wins and losses and gives us rewards in the exact same way as now. This goes with part two.
2) Players start next season close to their current division.
Amber -> Amber
Emerald -> Amber
Sapphire -> Emerald
Ruby -> Sapphire
Diamond -> Sapphire
Legend ->SapphireThanks.
I could not agree more.
I have played many mmos in the past and at least the most successful mmos I have played had incredibly good customer service (even a live support chat which proved to be very helpful) and the connection between players and devs was noticeable not only in the forums but also in the game.
There are always problems (that’s typical), but they are addressed very fast compared to Gw2. And its a shame because GW2 always had the potential to easily become the best mmo of the decade…
I think this is pretty unfair to be honest. I 100% agree this subject needs addressing, but it doens’t mean their customer service is bad. There are 100s of things they are working on and have actively said so, here and elsewhere. Give them a break and stop complaining about what they know is wrong and suggest ways to fix it instead.
No one is ever, EVER going to be 100% happy, no matter what Anet do…
Regarding their customer service… You haven’t played this game very long have you?
Length of time spent playing has nothing to do with it. I have had, personally, excellent customer service from the team in several matters including, linking my GW1 account to replacing missing items, better than I ever expected and if you read all the dev posts, you will see that they are responding when they can. They know there are issues but you all can’t assume they will be fixed overnight. The same complaint is getting boring. THAT is my argument.
They changed some things from S1 which people didn’t like because they couldn’t easily troll their way up the ladder and they know there are still issues with matchmaking, devs have said so on several forum posts. Give them chance, stop complaining and play the game, or something else if you’re that fed up.
@Cyanon – re your reply: indeed, fair enough, I just wanted to add my 2 pennies-worth.

Tonight we were one pip off getting into Sapphire after a hellish ride through Emerald. THE match that we needed to win, we were doing so until my husband’s and my games both lagged out and we disconnected. It’s happened before and we’ve been able to get back in, but tonight, we couldn’t. There was a ‘server’ error and all GW2 sites were loading very slowly while any other websites were fine, so it wasn’t our issue.
We ended up losing a pip, meaning we had to count on our winning streak continuing for 2 more matches (and we don’t get many win streaks as it is!) to get into Sapphire.
Why can’t the system determine genuine DCs and especially when its on GW2’s side of things and ensure your pip is either refunded or not lost at all?
On the plus side, our team mates probably didn’t lose any pips, and we made it to Sapphire and we didn’t get dishonor either!
Anyway, just a query.
Sorry if bumping this annoys anyone. I was searching for how people felt about the changes to the energy sigil.
Please don’t. Energy sigil giving a chunk of endurance is really bad design and can actually reward someone for panicking and wasting all of their dodges. I would rather it were removed than returned to giving instant endurance.
While I understand where you’re coming from here, I don’t agree entirely. The energy sigil, as it was, was tactically useful for classes such as mesmer and thief, to create extra clones for example and to (now with daredevil) maximise dps if using boundful dodger and so on. Thieves can obviously take the signet that restores endurance, but that takes away a skill slot for something people may find more useful.
As a champion illusionist, it did hit me fairly hard as I would, as you rightly say, consume my dodges skillfully (hopefully) but also utilize the trait deceptive evasion. Now, it really is pretty much useless to that cause. I am not afraid of changing my build however, but I don’t really know what to take in replacement other than Blood for extra sustain or fire for full on dps?
I am simply interested in knowing what others have replaced the energy sigil with and if anyone still uses it?
I found a really good place for rugged leather and linen cloth, you can make about 20 of each every 10-15 minutes plus all the other drops and junk you make along the way.
Unfortunately I can’t tell you where… Wouldn’t want to lose all my profits.
Soooo useful, thanks mate LMFAO. I’m sure you’re not the only person in GW2 to know this area…
I got a decent amount from the Dredge in Dredgehaunt Cliffs near SE wp yesterday when experimenting with events/farming etc.
Anything with a once per day limit will sell well (as long as it is not account bound!) I’ve made some great gold out of crafting heat stones and grow lamps recently but it does depend on what mats you tend to accumulate. Sometimes it can be more profitable to craft the stuff that is used for crafting those once-per-day items. Also look at orich plated dowels and some of the related inscriptions.
Ding is correct: generally speaking any time-gated crafted item will be profitable to sell. The wiki has a full list:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Time-gated#Crafted_itemsAnything else that gets crafted… that is more situational and requires studying the market. At any given point, dozens of items are profitable to craft (and sell quickly), but the list changes quickly.
You can start by looking at spirit shard promotions. Also consider crafting dyes, as well as other karma-sourced recipes. And then you can start investigating crafting in general. You can google for resources to help and here’s a list to give you a headstart:
Thank you to everyone kittenponded. Since I started investigating what I can make from crafting, I’ve found all kinds of different things, but was unsure as to whether they would be profitable long-term. It goes without saying that things are always fluctuating, so the above response is exactly the kind I was after, thank you very much.
I am self admittably terrible at maths so I don’t find it easy at all deciphering what is worth doing to sell on the tp when taking its fees into account, so I am really after those items that as I say are long-term profitable and perhaps any websites that make it simple to see what is currently good for crafting/selling.
Since I am not buying the mats to make the items to sell I don’t ‘feel’ any loss if that makes sense. However, Elonian LSs have become difficult to craft due to a massive lack of Rugged Leather Sections!
I have also crafted a few inscriptions, but long-term I’ve no idea if that is really worth it if I can’t obtain the materials at the rate I am using them.
Thank you all.
(edited by Celine.6857)
Hi all,
Recently, after I achieved equipping my main characters with each weight of ascended gear I have been still making Deldrimore Steel Ingots, Elonian Leather Squares etc to sell.
I was wondering what other crafted items are good to make on a daily basis to sell? For example any rings, trinkets, weps, armour?
In addition, I am finding it extraordinarily hard to find Rugged Leather Squares. I Googled this and found a page on here which was very helpful. I knew about the trick of purchasing medium armour, I just wasn’t sure of the levels. I did as was suggested and purchased a few medium coats between levels 34 and 45 and also 46-63, and was weirdly unable to salvage them! Has something altered, or was I purchasing the wrong item?
Any help/advice would be massively appreciated. Thanks!
WhatEVER class you play, you need to know what you can and can not take in a PvP match. If you’re an ele and you can’t take a Reaper (which to be honest pre-patch re DS surprises me), then you avoid that Reaper, or go in head strong as a team.
PvP is about team work and a big big factor in that is everyone knowing exactly which 1v1s they can win more often than not.
Ele is extremely survivable, they have great maneouvrability, strong DPS, excellent utility and I am absolutely gob smacked by this thread.
You find those win/loss numbers bad? Try losing with 90 points! THAT hurts. We are on a winning streak atm (probably just jinxed it) and won 2 matches we weren’t ‘supposedly’ able to win so easily and earned 4 pips (2 for each match) and one of them the losing team had 50 points. THAT is a shocker of a score.
These kinds of scores must be due to quitters who whereby if they die within the first minute of the match, have a hissy fit and decide to AFK the rest of the match.
This was hilarious for me… I saw “consume 25 wintersday drinks” or whatever, so I bought 25 and downed them only to realize it was tier 1 of about a million LMAO.
Really doubt i’ll be getting this AP.
I guess it depends how long you’ve been playing… I feel like I’ve too many MPs to put anywhere useful :/ I want more mastery lines!
This is entirely subjective and the answer will differ greatly from person to person.
But the biggest thing that makes it the most fun, for me, is playing with my husband. We make characters that we bring to LIFE that we level together and form their own ‘story’. For example I made an asura ele who I gave the cutest nose that looks slightly dented on her profile. I gave her a voice that my husband just adores, which includes how she can’t pronounce her Ms and Ns due to her “dose issue”. A bit like exaggerating the sounds you make when you have a cold. I developed her character so her background story was that she was bullied at “Krewe School” due to her nose issues but now she takes no kitten and burns people up. Plus she is madly in love with one of my husband’s characters who is a stuffy asura who believes everything in the world was invented by him and he has a mere mortal servant (my asura mesmer) at his side.
These things just bring the game to life for us and we have hours and hours of fun.
Aside from this the game has so much content, I find it difficult to get bored. Someone in guild always wants to do something whether it be a JP, map complete together, world bosses, a few dungeons, fractals, PvP… and we are just loving the new missions since launch of HoT.
We also enjoy getting all those little APs you didn’t know existed and aside from core game-play we sometimes focus on those, such as finding all the exalted masks in the Maguuma.
Personally, I find it a shame when people get bored and quit, because you’ve either done everything in game way too quickly and the novelty has worn off, or you aren’t exploring properly everything this wonderful game has to offer and that’s a real shame.
What an utterly ridiculous thread topic. “GG” is good sportsmanship and shows respect for your team mates and the opponent. If I lose a match, but it was a good fight, I will still say ‘gg wp’. It’s polite and courtious. Why is the gaming community so simple minded over this concept? You don’t see football teams all taking the hump at the end of a game, (not most anyway lol), they shake hands and move on. Please stop with the nonsense threads.
“Pippin ain’t easy”.
Magic Toker queueing with his “top emerald” friends and 1 diamond.
Btw we lost a pip.
This MMR abuse is a lot similar to the elo boost of League of Legends.
Oh my god you need to stop your waterfall of tears buddy, You dont even know who those players are. Theyre top players that dont have much time to play this game, and one day decided to que with toker. That doesnt make him an mmr abuser, and you need to stop posting that screenshot everywhere like it means something.
I have never seen so much unjustified QQ until pips became a thing. Pips making everyone turn into pure salt
Firstly I loathe the use of “QQ” and the word “crying”, because nobody is ‘crying’, people are stating facts about the problems in what is a serious competitive area of PvP. So I disagree with this comment. People were complaining a long time before the league was made about unfair matchmaking. It’s just hightened now because it means something. You’re on an official leaderboard whereby you could essentially become part of a pro team and be in the running for the top prize of $250,000 in the future (afaik). That is not to be messed with and if people are actively purposefully losing matches for their own gain, or indeed building a team on purpose to make their MMR lower, or however they do it, it is absolutely 100% unfair and down right wrong to the people s/he is playing with. And this goes for ALL PvP not just ranked.
PvP is a team game, there’s zero room for selfish gain in my book. Regular sport outside of the gaming world wouldn’t stand for it, so why should we?
@CntrlAltDefeat – couldn’t agree more.
(edited by Celine.6857)
I even saw in lobby chat people requesting a way to ‘farm pips’. The whole thing is just messed up.
Sportsmanship, team play and FUN has been completely annihalated for the selfishness of others who I don’t want to be in a team with and have no real way of making sure they get punished.
Just had a match where I was /laughed at by 3/4 of my team mates and then verbally abused because I was playing a thief.
I don’t even know what to say at this point. Not only is the balance in this game horrendous but with the introduction of leagues players care about winning more than ever so if you’re not playing a ‘meta’ class, this is what happens..
People who complain have a serious lack of sportsmanship and obviously hate themselves so much they feel the need to flame others for no reason at all.
It really gets to me because these people have a) never ever met me before, b) have never ever played with me before and c) seem to forget I am a human being.
We all have off days – perhaps you played brilliantly that match and they were jealous, or perhaps you had an off day and they decided to say you are crap at a class that really they have no reason and no RIGHT to judge from one match only.
Even on THIS forum I have been slated for sharing a build I know works like a dream, just because it’s not “meta”. It is utterly pathetic.
Just ignore them, block and report for verbal abuse. You’ll probably come across them again some day and stomp their sorry kitten s and that my friend will feel AMAZING. Been there, done that, celebrated with a Pina Colada.
Good luck and don’t let it get you down.
