On a High server here.
Leveling up I saw nothing but BODIES. People everywhere, dozens doing events. You’re clearly playing at wee hours or are on a Medium server.
Let me just say that I enjoy the game.
You seem entangled in disappointment over the mechanics of the game.
Sucks that you feel that way, but it is what it is.
Also, you can’t compare this game to Diablo. D3 is one of the worst PC games ever.
This game is more simplistic for sure, zerging occurs often, but offers exploration and freedom to do what you wish (a love it or hate it thing) without all the watered down balancing at ever corner dividing players by title of casual or elitist.
Both PvP and PvE do need work, but I ain’t going anywhere.
Took everyone’s tips seriously and ended up getting full masterwork explorer’s with the pirate rune for more magic find. Omnom bars for even more MF.
I decided to go to Cursed Shore and managed to get a skill point I was stuck on and about 1g 20s in a little over an hour of just cutting through enemies and selling greens/blues and mats to the TP. It feels nice being able to kill 2-3 enemies fairly quickly.
I ended up getting a hammer for my swap, so between that and the great sword things feel a lot better than they did before.
I went 25 Zeal, 20 Radiance, 15 Valor and 10 to Virtues.
Seem to be down.
I think I will go back to DPS then and utilize my support/conditions better…
What would I need to type in the trading post for the explorer’s gear, what’s it called? Or rather what color is it. Thanks again.
I’ve heard that explorer’s gear is only a few silver a piece, where are the vendors?
I’m a human in game.
(edited by Cezton.2415)
@Lumines, where is this explorer gear to? Never heard of it.
Thanks for your input, I really wanted to go for a caster this time around
Might check out the warrior then as thief was a bit too squish for me to handle.
You know what I mean.
What is the damage output of the class? I’m asking because I’ve played a Guardian to 80 and found it rather stale with how slow things die.
I want to roll a DPS class, but these forums seem to indicate that the elementalist has sub par damage, which kind of confuses me.
I’m in Orr just mining the odd orichalcum and when I’m not doing that I’m at the ice trolls or attempting to do dungeons. All feels really sluggish.
The events, too, feel really slow. The amount of karma in terms of how much I actually need for one piece of gear is a bit mind blowing.
Not saying I hate the end game, just I’m not so motivated with these mechanics.
Since 80 I’ve had a lot of bad experiences in dungeons. While aiming for a burn/crit build I found that I would die way too often. Now I’m all toughness/boon support/heals and it’s pretty stale I must say, simply because I can’t really DPS outside of the dungeons, and while in the dungeons nobody hops in my bubbles. Too much mindless zerging.
Still want to play, but between not being able to grind for money or enjoy my support build in dungeons it’s making me regret rolling this profession.
I would grab that laptop if I had the money, just for sheer mobility.
All your tips are common knowledge really, but there’s nothing wrong with saying them again. I’m actually running an E8400 C2D and a GTX 460 and I get 40 fps on avg.
My computer is pretty tidy and minimal for things being ran in the background. I use Game Booster like you mentioned and also a program called D3DOverrider (comes with the application RivaTuner), with both Game Booster and D3D running my game feels fairly smooth, no tearing, and FPS only drops in huge WvW battles.
Everything else runs smooth. No overclocking or anything like that.
For the average player I would recommend building a computer for $600 to truly get the best out of this game. I have to upgrade my processor and motherboard in the near future, but I’ve managed to get to 80 and do dungeons without any real lag with what my setup has offered thus far. CPU makes a big difference and I definitely feel it.
Hi, I’ve been having trouble finding events in Orr.
I run around everywhere but can barely ever find any. Mainly doing Strait/Malchors as Cursed Shore is a bit difficult for me still. Leveling in Orr I found them all the time.
So I just hit 80 and am kind of stumped as to how I should be approaching this.
Thus far I’ve just been killing ice giants in Frostgorge and doing dungeons for a little extra silver, but none of this feels productive enough to invest time in.
My crafting skills are quite low at present, and I really need to hit the nodes and acquire some cash for them to be useful enough when it comes to cash.
I’m being realistic and I know that I’m not going to just run into loads of gold, but something that seems practical when it comes to making money. As it is right now between way points and upgrades, my pockets are feeling pretty light.
Leveling I just went the Greatsword power/precision/condition route with lots of burns and crits. Now that I’m 80 I’m really stumped as to how I should be playing this class. Whenever I do dungeons with the greatsword, I feel like I’m far too squishy to be of use, and because of this am seriously considering going all support.
So I guess I have a few questions…
1) What’s the survivability and damage like with mace + shield?
2) What should my traits look like to maximize survivability but still be able kill enemies when I’m clearing locations for exploration?
3) What stats should I be looking for on my armor and sockets?
Thank you very much if you can answer.
I don’t know man. Without that real “tank” and “heal” role, it feels too sloppy. I don’t see any feasible room for improvement when so much goes on at once, and it seems so hard to decipher through the aoe and sloppiness what really needs to be done.
I’ve only done CM, been too afraid to try others.
It feels like zerging a heroic in greens (for a WoW reference)
Before the last patch I found dungeons do-able. I don’t know if the difficult changed, but things feel so sloppy now. I die so many times it’s unbelievable. I stand back as support but can barely even doing that. If I attack, I die almost immediately, instantly.
Any insight into this, or have all my groups just been horrible?
I feel like there’s no good way to strategize in dungeons.
For example, in CM, the first two bosses destroy everyone. Whenever I try to rez, I die instantly. It’s very hard to see red rings to dodge when there are so many spells from both allies and the enemy. I get knocked back repeatedly and I just find it extremely difficult to tell what’s going on 75% of the time.
I’m a Guardian, I use a lot of support skills. Whenever I attack, I die.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Level 78, never even bothered to try other dungeons due to my experience with CM.
Ok just saw the sticky of what to do at 80! Disregard this thread.
Problem is I don’t know where the gear is :P I wish the game had a guide or something.
Level 78 and a half. I’ll definitely hit 80 in the next two hours.
I’m a bit overwhelmed and am not sure where to start. I guess I’d like to make some gold, but I don’t really know how to other than through gathering…
What are some realistic goals to reach for? What dungeons are worth doing? I’m not sure what gear to reach for at first.
Thanks a bunch.
Cezton, Level 70
What armor is that and where can I find it?
The shoulders and helmet are from the upper city Cultural vendor in DR.
The rest are exotic rewards for finishing 60-70 zones.
Around level 40 I got excited because I was getting more silver and reaching a gold much faster. I’d end up with around 2 gold after doing a zone.
Now between way points costing 1-3 silver, and any amount of gear, skill books, etc, I feel broke all of the time. I’m almost done Frostgorge Sound and I’m still broke.
Dungeons aren’t a viable way of making cash, and almost all of my crafting mats so far (at level 76) aren’t worth much of anything.
Bugged on Ehmry Bay.
Did 3 CM groups and I just feel like tearing my hair out. Not really, but it’s just so frustrating how fast people drop. There’s too much of a mess of spells on the ground, can’t properly dodge or mitigate, or plan.
I just find dungeons to be a mess as a melee.
I spam supportive skills, aegis and all of that as a guardian, but geez.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Lvl 70 Guardian here…
Specced with mainly precision/conditions and power, with a little toughness/vitality. Greatsword is my main weapon, with swap as sword and shield.
I feel like I die too quickly in dungeons. For example, in CM the first boss and the door guard mop the floor with me often, as well as most other melee in my group.
I stack the burn hard, and am constantly sacrificing my virtues for my party, as well as using other defensive or supportive skills. Still, I find it very hard. Dodge only does so much in certain fights, often unpredictable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as dungeons are my goal for end game.
Please help a fellow noob
As melee, I constantly die.
It’s not like being out on your own where it’s easier to dodge skills and keep a situation under control. All melee in my groups die often, some groups are better than others, but I feel like bosses KO me half of the time, if not hit me too hard.
What’s the work around? This is in story dungeons. I can’t even imagine exploration.
Guardian specced for heavy burns, crits and support.
So far I’d have to say Maelstrom Mountain for me.
The volcano, grassy lands, the water in one area. Super nice.
I know that I’m going to end up doing both, but for 70-80, which is best?
By best I mean lore/quest and appearance wise.
Bumping the thread, share your experiences.
Don’t drop the fanboy card. I didn’t even want to get GW2, I was pressured into it. I get a sense of satisfaction in this game, and feel there’s a great social aspect, and plenty to do.
People really need to stop leaning on the traditional MMO approach. It’s getting really, really old, and like I said twice already, the game just came out.
I will agree though that, that there are TOO many centaur quests.
It may get old, but so long as content rolls out in the future, and people have something to work for, I guarantee this game won’t die like Warhammer, Conan or Rift did.
You guarantee?
So what do I get in six months when, if they haven’t dramatically altered things, this place is a ghost town and we’ve both long forgotten about this thread?
Nothing, right?
A gritty sense of satisfaction? I don’t know, nor do I care really.
Guild Wars 2, I predict will be between LotRO and WoW. I don’t expect it to be “better” than WoW as people love to protest, or more populated, but with games like Warhammer, AoC, Rift, etc, the problem was leveling would come to a hault, or that there was absolutely no end game. Performance issues were always thick in these games, and the forums became a ghost town very, very quickly. Forget forums though, with the advertising of this game, and the amount of youtube prowess and general chatter that it has gotten earlier til now, it’s evident that it’s not going to just die.
Like I said, the game just came out, and the response so far has been great.
I know nobody who has stopped playing, if anything, all my buds are glued to the screen like they were when WoW first came out. Recently many of us got D3 and evidently that game was a piece of trash, and people knew it was right away. You just don’t see that response on here this early in it’s life. Just issues here and there.
And, I should add, this game is very Jobsian in the sense that it’s taken aspects from a multiplicity of other games, reworked the artwork a bit, and then called itself revolutionary.
Are you really going to start a crusade against marketing hyperbole now?
I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but marketing hyperbole is not a new concept, nor is it limited to companies that you dislike or products you hate.
I rail against crap whether it’s something I like or not, actually. And dishonesty in particular pisses me off, especially when every airhead can’t come up for air long enough to realise how deluded they are.
I’m sick of being told I’m playing a game with all this new great stuff in it, when I’m not. There’s nothing revolutionary about anything in this game, not the DEs, the boss fights, anything. Anybody who’s playing anything else can attest to this (and really, if you’ve played anything else, the statement is laughable). And yeah, it pisses me off that players are repeating verbatim precisely what the developer has been spoon feeding them for the past 2 years.
(And hell, I LIKE ANet).
Admit that the game is a disappointment for you, and stop coming off grandiose with vague generalizations to get your point across.
While dynamic events are nothing new, combined with the hearts/skill points/vistas/etc in each zone, it adds more flavor aside from the traditional MMO in terms of just going out and collecting X apples for Y amount of time, or killing X amount of enemies.
You have to look at the full product, and not emphasize on certain features as though they are the entire game. WvW, dungeons, events, hearts, exploration, hidden treats and great class diversity is what is holding this game up so high for most players. It may get old, but so long as content rolls out in the future, and people have something to work for, I guarantee this game won’t die like Warhammer, Conan or Rift did.
This game does one thing really well, and that’s bringing players together.
They did a lot of things right, a few things I’m iffy on, but the game basically just came out, so you have to give it time.

Played a warrior and ele(my starter) to 80 and noticed some glaring differences between the two. To cut a long story short, I love my warrior and the variety of ways I can use her. I particularly love the banner-heal build when it was recommended to me, and haven’t really looked back.
Won’t really get into the ele but will describe it in one word: disappointing. They used to be so dam fun.
What’s so disappointing about them? Ele was going to be my second profession to 80 for the sheer amount of variety in magic.
I’ve played a guardian to level 80 and have been there for a week, and I can’t really bring myself to play any other class. I love the way this class plays the greatsword; it’s nimble, effective against multiple enemies, and 5 is some amazingly useful multi-target control. I currently use a build that focuses on increasing damage to burning targets and doing lots and lots of burning. I carry a staff as well for support, mainly for dungeons, so I can duck back and let someone else handle the boss or mobs for a bit while I beef them up, give them a little health, and stop encroaching melee. The Tome of Courage elite is amazing for boss fights; nothing says “last push” like a full-party max heal.
We sound very similar.
Greatsword here as well. All precision/condition, next is power, then a bit of toughness/vitality. I focus on burning primarily and use a staff from afar too.
It’s great fun. Still getting used to the finer mechanics of the class though. I consider the Guardian to be one of the more advanced classes so far.
Report bugged skill points. Several times if needed. Tell others to, as well.
Next time there’s a small patch, more likely than not it will be fixed.
I enjoy dynamic events, and just disagree with most of your post.
You raise some points, but honestly, it sounds like a classic case of, so and such isn’t my cup of tea, so I’m leaving unless you change things.
Indeed, what Esham said.
Near that heart you just dive and then you’re there.
In the future try googling the closest location and skill point, or closest location and vista for an instant youtube video 99% of the time which will help you.
I’d have to say that elementalist, guardian and mesmer are the more advanced classes. Necro and thief as well when it comes to staying alive and such.
I’d say warrior or ranger is the best beginner class.
Tell us your profession, level, and your experience so far.
What do you enjoy the most about your choice? What do you dislike?
I’ll start. I chose a Guardian and am nearing Lvl 70 at present. I very much enjoy all the different weapon choices this class is capable of. Lots of support skills to choose from and seemingly endless choices of play styles. I haven’t tried them all yet, just a few which I’ve engaged with. I haven’t tried out half of my skills yet.
Another plus is how great armor looks on a Guardian, and the feeling of not being restricted to the sole role of “tank” like other games make this class out to be.
Nah, I want to be a true support role. Thanks for the replies, btw.
Can any other great sword guardians link their builds?
Also, what is the best swap while using great sword for dungeons? Scepter/focus?
I tried to log in a few minutes ago and got a notification in the launcher that I needed to authorize my login, or something to that extent.
I checked to find an e-mail which showed my own IP and province, but the city was wrong. It was a city a few miles away.
I reset my router, ran malwarebytes, anti-virus, ccleaner, and restarted my PC. The authorize happened again, but with my new IP after resetting the router.
Should I be worried? My GW2 password is extremely complex and I use an isolated e-mail for GW2 only.
I’ve refined myself a little tonight. I had all power/precision/condition gear/sockets with just my rings having vit/toughness. I went for a great sword with healing, vitality and some precision and decided to look for two more pieces with some vitality/toughness/healing to mix it up a little and get myself to 10k hp.
I have an issue with dodging… I seem to not know when to dodge in some encounters. I find it harder to predict what enemies will do, and even not knowing when some enemies are prepping an attack that I should dodge. Perhaps I’m just not so used to the mechanics, but dodging has been a bit messy for me so far.
I may try going complete tank/support in the future, but for now I love all my burns/conditions. It hasn’t failed me yet.
I gladly pop my virtues while grouping, especially in tougher battles.
Seems mandatory for me.
Level 60 Guardian and so far I’ve played all the way through with a Greatsword. I’ve enjoyed it while leveling. I stack a lot of precision/condition damage and I still burn through things while doing quests and what not.
However while doing dungeons I suffer quite a bit. I feel like I’m dishing decent damage, but I die almost all the time on bosses. I’m going to be doing more PvE at 70-80, lots of dungeons for exotic armor, and my question is, would it be better to go mostly toughness/vitality with a sword and shield for these things?
If it means not dying and playing a real support role, I’d gladly do the switch.
No one care to answer?
