Type “toxic” into the BLTP. The one I’m testing is 100 precision and 10% condition duration. They are too expensive to use constantly. But they are great nourishment for a 30/20/20/0/0 build. Throw in koi cakes and go nuts.

Sigils share internal cooldowns by the way. A cooldown for sigil of earth won’t even let geomancy proc.

You know, when they introduce independent Sigil cool downs, and the ability to put two Sigils on 2H weapons, it will introduce a whole new world of build options for us and for other classes.

Basically, all ~on-crit~ sigils will have new life breathed into them, and I predict some combinations will simply be OP. Having a few different builds theorized already, I for one can’t wait.

That would be pretty sick dude. I’m loving longbow right now lol. Was just hating on it last week too.

Yeah, Longbow is one of those weapons that takes practice to get used to. Are you liking Sigil of Torment more than Sigil of Earth on your particular build?

I think I’ll get better condition damage with sigil of torment. I like the fact that it hurts them to get to me. Making them move with you and take full torment damage is what makes it better than sigil of earth. Although it might only be better if condition duration is high (mine is currently 90%). I’m just making guesses here about the duration thing being necessary though. Overall, I’m finding that longbow is better when augmented with conditions, like most strong ranger builds I’m aware of.

I like the food more i guess…
It´s hard to stack torment effectivly.
I like how torment works but the bleed stacks from sigil of earth deal way more damage for me.

I take two bows, sigil of earth on SB and sigil of torment on LB with the adept trait sharpened edges (basically a trait based sigil of earth, right?). I am also using quick draw. My armor is celestial. I am loving torment on longbow right now. Sort of typing and playing.

You must need condition duration. I have 90% duration with my current build. I am getting two stacks of torment on the target consistently using only longbow. It’s working very well with sharpened stones utility for me though.

In combat it gives the ranger, pet, and up to 4 allies +150 precision. It’s aoe and is a profession specific ~5% DPS buff to the party. I hope that helps.

Until bosses are improved so that builds besides berserker are viable, the Trinity still rules all. The Trinity is the best system at the moment, and Anet is proving that with their non-trinity system. When conditions/bunker/support builds become viable in PvE, only then will Anet’s combat system truly shine. As it stands now though, the combat system is the worst combat I’ve seen in a very long time.

One of two things will happen if Anet ever decides to do something about this.

1.) Anet will improve bosses so that berserkers alone cannot defeat it. They need support/bunker/condition builds in the group.

2.) Anet will add the trinity. (This is a lot less likely). (.0000008% chance less likely).

It’s just a matter of when Anet will improve the bosses, because time is ticking, and people that don’t use berserker gear are leaving or have already left.

I have never used full berzerker and never will and i am still here with nearly 10k of AP. Content doesn’t need to be done by zerkers only. I also know a large amount of people who are not using zerker gear and are not leaving. Your speculating too much. Guardians are used in dungeon runs as support (which is why they are brought not cause of their damage). Mesmers are brought in for support. All classes can control.

GW2 Trinity is: DPS/Control/Support. All classes are capable of doing all of these no matter what armour they are using. Warriors in those zerker runs are used for DPS. Guardians are used for Control and Support. Mesmers as well. This makes for a balanced team. Is it the only combination? No it is not but it is the one with the highest DPS via theory crafting (which doesn’t always make it so in practice). I have had mixed groups with my guild that achieved times on par with top zerker groups.

Incorrect, you need other profession buffs for max DPS. You are also speculating too much about some things. War/war/war/mes/guard is folklore advanced by strife, someone who not only never completely solved gw2 (that would happen months later), he also quit the game.

Please allow spirits to move by default with the option to command them to stay if anyone actually needs that.

I would use spirits a LOT more if they naturally moved.
I would use signets a LOT more if they applied the passive to a small group.
I would use bows a LOT more if they would naturally pierce (v trait).

I bet you can beat any boss in this game with five naked rangers with bears and longbows so long as you know what you’re doing. Any build is viable—just not for speed runs. Still, I bet 5 naked [rT] or [DnT] rangers could beat many bosses faster than many newcomer PUGs. They already did that with 5 naked rangers on arah path 4. Basically everything is viable.

As you know, new living story means new runes, sigils, and food. This time, there are some great options for you condition rangers out there. I’m thinking sigil of torment and longbow, right? Because now they have to hurt themselves more to close the gap. Toss in sharpened stones and a sun spirit and you’re a serious condition threat from a distance.

if so, explain how your view of the trinity changed 1 year after experiencing what Anet’s idea of the trinity-less system?

But what you’re missing is the combat beyond trinity. Trinity is limiting. In gw2, you support each other through unique profession buffs as well as boons like regeneration, might, fury, or conditions on the enemy like vulnerability, immobilize, or chill. This requires active teamplay via combo fields and finishers.

In gw2, there is a trinity in a way: damage / support / control. And that’s how you play. It’s more active, more intelligent, and more fun.

Last two commenters: do you use spotter? Vigorous spirits? Frost spirit? What pet do you choose? Probably not devourer huh? I recommend devourer, especially for players who fire and forget pets and/or extremely hard hitting bosses. Plus, you can stand behind it and range while it eats projectiles since it tends to stand in place. Explore these options and your questions are answered without dev input. Also, practice with sword and take an offhand axe.

By the way, pets all just got +71% health in pve. And they still die for you?? You just let your cat tank the boss or something?

Interested to know if all needed to time and use axe 5 for reflect to work properly or only a few were needed?

Damage-wise, more than 2 rangers reflecting is definitely diminishing returns. There were times that only 1 – 2 rangers used axe 5 and managed to take Lupi from about 65% to 20% health because each ranger got around 10 – 15 reflects. For the sake of living through the AoE, all rangers used axe 5 and probably got in the neighborhood of 5-10 reflects each. It is possible to stand in another ranger’s_ hitbox and survive, but less reliable (and even using axe 5 doesn’t guarantee survival).

Why not use offhand training for a larger reflect bubble?

I won’t threaten to rage quit or change classes. But when two prominent devs, in an official demo, act bored while playing a ranger and can’t remember class basics is kinda telling…

I don’t expect grand gestures or massive class changes. I do expect respect and knowledge of their own product. Name one dev who mains a ranger.

I would guess the devs doing the balancing play all the professions. Anyways, what has ANET done to show love? Well, over the last year…

Huge longbow buff and rework, Companions might, beastmasters bond, pet health increase, spirit health increase, reveal on sic em, natures voice, offhand axe rework, blast finish on warhorn was given, offhand training fixed to affect all offhands, companions defense fix, stun break on “protect me”, a new pet (reef drake)

I’m sure there’s more. Of course there were nerfs too but it really isn’t too bad

I’m left wondering if this is a stunt to try and show some love for the adopted child (ranger profession) due to the fairly obvious and severe neglect that has left a majority that still play this profession distraught.

I guess I can’t complain. Just do me a favor in the live stream and tell us that you think this profession is working as intended so that we can all move on.

Interesting thought but I doubt it. I don’t think ANET anticipated that their audience would need tutorials. But there’s so much poor play and so little streaming on twitch that, indeed, a better tutorial mode and better tooltips are what gw2 needs. They’re doig the right thing here.

Pet is broken, and that both ways. Weak in big scale fights in wvw, and OP in open world PvE. Im curently rebuilding my ranger, and from lvls 50-60 i easily killed few champs that were around 5 lvls above me, and all of them being grp events. When i go afk, i just make sure to go in middle of some mobs, so my pet can colect me loot when i come back. I wont die since pet will take agro.
On other heand, in wvw, when two masive forces clash, that OP pet just goes splat. There is a reason why good wvw guilds dont bring rangers.
WvW should be balanced separatly from PvE, PvP. Yes. But inside of WvW there is entire new world with numerous variations on encounters, everything from 1v1, 1vx, small scale, big scale, zerging, camp takeing (this goes under pve i guess), etc…Imagine what heapens if devs make pets able to stand in zerg bomb. How would that impact on all other aspects of WvW? Pet solo takeing keeps, or 3-5 players, it would result in Pet Wars 2 (or 1).
Thinking of it as a fine line betwean stats, that have to be hit perfectly to work is pointless, again, if they keep playing with pets HP it will resoult with OP pets.
For pets to work, pets have to be -as smart as players-. Tell me, how would you program NPC to think?
Id also just like to point out on all other proffesions that have NPCs as option, but no one use them in WvW when numbers are greater. There are no minion necros, shater mesmers, spirit guardians, turret engies, simply becouse all those NPCs cant be developed to intelectualy behave depending on enviroment that is never the same (thinking on combination of red circles on ground that is infinit, and then going in right friendly field, while also atacking enemy players, buffing allies and useing terein). Imposible, unless they make 2 players playing 1 proffesion (one for character and one for pet-now that would be something:D)…
Curent meta (i hate this word) in wvw are, staff+hammer/GS guardians, hammer+sword/WH warriors, staff and D/D eles, well necros, SB thiefs and mesmers for there fotm utilities. No NPCs, no conditions(since confusion nerff), pure phisical AoE dmg, fast acting skills, insta cleanses(shouts), lots of healing. Ranger as a proffesion fails in all of this. Its been like this since relese, and meta will not change unless they make GW3.

Storm spirit is not balanced at the moment.

Give that profession 25 stack might and fury like a storm spirit for 8k to make it fair (not 9k). I repeat: you need a CRIT (20% chance with fury and can ONLY crit with firy) as well as 25 stack might on the spirit for the spirit to land 8k.

You act like it’s 3k to 9k for free which basically discredits you. You don’t know what you’re talking about worse than me half the time and that’s saying something.

Storm spirit can crit without fury. 9k with might maybe true but it can definitely hit around 6k crits without ANY buffs. 7k ish on really squishy targets. So I don’t think 9k was too far of a leap.

I have tested storm spirit. It cannot crit without fury. It cannot hit for 6k without might. Stop lying and spreading false information maybe?

Lol. A little hostile. I have not been “making things up”. I have a lot of experience on ranger and I’m still confident storm spirit will crit without fury because it has happened frequently in 1 v 1s in matches (and I don’t use warhorn). A 6k hit on a squishy target like a thief is definitely a little under what storm spirit could actually do on a non might stacked crit. But you confidence in saying it doesn’t crit without fury made me doubt myself a little so well done. Still, no need for the personal insults and storm spirit should still scale with power.
Edit: Plus, 6k in a 2s window is completely possible, activate, spirit dies from timer = 6k base. and on a squish that would be about 9k…

Why? DnT always uses embers in speed run record attempts as far as I know. They’re not really there for dps. Rather, it’s using the projectile mechanic against lupi. Nothing wrong with that.

Anet devs want rangers to work with the pet. If you want to stow it, then you are a ranger who isn’t maximizing potential because rather than use your profession bonus, you let it die or flat out ignore it.

It’s not that bad. If you play power you will typically be avoiding 1v1 skirmishes unless you are simply better than me at that. So if that’s what you mean, I get it. But in practice, it kind of works. You run power with skirmishing and beastmaster, right? Because you want a strong, fast pet to pick at a distance while you harass with longbow. Then, during the battle, when the opportunity presents itself (or your team creates the opportunity), you go in, burst, maybe maul a few times, then get out and repeat.

I see what you’re saying jcbroe. I was just pointing out things besides the fact that it’s damage. It’s important to explain things in the context of the entire game (cooldowns, ranger intention for balance, etc). I am not an expert on these matters.

Well, 8 months old huh? I feel even dumber than usual. Listen, this guy thought longbow was any good 8 months ago? It’s a lot better now and many still say “ew”.

It’s not a Ranger problem. Ranged is significantly weaker then Melee in this game as it should be since ranged play has almost no risk compared to melee.

You can say that about any class, highest DPS:

Warrior: Axe /GS
Mesmer: S/S or S/F
Thief: D/D or S/P
Ele: D/D
Guardian: S/x /GS
Necro: D/x

So it’s not a “ranger” problem, all classes have highest DPS in melee. Stop taking things so personally, the grass isn’t greener on the other side.

Pretty sure Ele highest damage is Conjured weapons and staff build….

That being said, a lot people play the ranger to use a bow. Mostly because its right in the description… and its a fun archetype…

The risk, benefit analysis of why melee should do higher damage is just silly. Also, seeing as melee weapons all have more defensive capabilities than ranged counterpart also lowers that “risk”. Only thing I might condede is that melee should have a higher burst potential to make up for time they have to get out of combat.

I chose ranger to play a specific way. The way the description stated it. Use bow, and dispatch enemies up close. Not stay close all the time.

So you want to do as much damage as a Thief/Ele who will get 1 shotted if he makes a mistake in range of a Boss from 1200 range away. Got it.
Yeah that definitely seems fair.

No one is ranging dungeon mobs anyways because they want the boons. As far as I can tell, the point is that there’s too many gap closers to justify the argument that melee is more dangerous. You’ll end up in melee anyways in most cases. You mentioned a thief. The thief steals. Boom you’re in melee.

Two things: I gave you a level headed response and the spirit A) needs fury to crit 3k and needs 25 stack might to hit 8k, not to mention be in range

This is on a ability that the enemy can kill, launch, stun, daze, or interrupt on a 20s cooldown.

In light of these facts, jcbroe, why does it need a nerf? Because it killed you one time? I need more substance. I bet that’s why you’re getting knuckleheaded responses. Where’s the actual argument again? It’s not a free 8k, not even a free 3k.

Odd how one has to build in toughness and condition damage to a clerics longbow/greatsword build (wasting 300 stat points) in order to get the toughness you need. Isn’t there a better way or am I misundertanding what you’re doing? By the way, the videos show up as private on my phone.

Why are we nerfing ranger again? Because it can do a 3k on a 20s cooldown with a utility? Suddenly that’s called power burst? That’s odd. I didn’t know that was what burst was.
