In my testing a few months ago, Max storm spirit crit on medium armored golem was around 8k if the spirit had 25 stack might. It sounds like if that storm spirit is giving a lot of hard crits then they deserved it given they must have been buffing it with might and (I’m guessing) fury. Otherwise it was just an off chance lucky hit.
I am absolutely fine with removing burning and torment from the necro again. That will make it a lot more balanced and will increase the build variety.
I couldn’t believe they gave necro burning in the first place. I was so kittened that day. I knew exactly where that was going to take the game. But all I heard on the forums was about how “chopps you’re clueless”. Glad to see people wising up.
I have all 8 professions because I like winning. Eventually you have to play them all to understand what you’re up against in the wild. But ranger is still my favorite due to play-style and theme. Hopefully anet gets their kitten together and makes this game fun for everyone.
Some people swear by longbow but, honestly, it’s not that great as far as 1v1 goes. It’s pretty good in certain situations with certain teams though.
Just tested about 20 times , out of combat.. the leaps are definitely a waste of time, assuming you have swiftness. just running straight is just as fast, if timed perfectly you get MAYBE 1 step ahead. Without swiftness it is definitely faster but that’s a given. IN combat it is also faster, and definitely useful for creating space between whoever/whatever is chasing you. But for general OOC movement, don’t waste your time with Monarchs Leap if you have swiftness, also if you mess up the 180 you are going to end up way behind.
This is the correct answer. +1
If you’re fast enough with sword you’ll make ground. First leap is close to swiftness but second in chain is profit. I see it all the time when running in groups.
From a dead start its all profit tho, or if you just used lighting reflexes you can double up with no loss.
Not while out of combat it’s not faster (even if you time it perfectly). I get what you’re saying about starting from rest though.
No, the sword hornets sting/monarchs leap is almost exactly as fast as simply running with swiftness when out of combat. I’ve tested this extensively because I keep reading people claiming they run faster doing sword leaps. They don’t. Greatsword, on the other hand, has a long leap with a very short animation.
Are animation times factored in when overall mobility is ranked? In other words, are all leaps the same speed? I ask because Swoop feels really fast for the distance it covers. Could be my imagination.
I’d reccomend a knights emblazoned armor set. It increases your toughness thus allowing survival and your precision so you do more criticals. Then get some sigils that inflict bleeding on every crit and BAM. You can survive and have a large DPS
You don’t want knights because toughness will draw aggro and ranger dies in aggro. You want to avoid aggro if possible, especially if you run Gaunglai’s build with nothing in wilderness survival.
If you want to live, trait signet of stone with signet of beastmaster (grandmaster in marks). Knights armor will just slow you down and get you killed. It’s counter-intuitive but that’s the game ANET made. The reason is because everyone will be in berserker and if you have toughness, the bosses will think you’re the “tank”. You will likely die more due to killing things slower while having more aggro.
Also, don’t spend gold on emblazoned when you can run a dungeon for armor. You should be able to get berserker rares cheaply with maybe one or two exotics from map completion. Then hit up one of the dungeons that give berserker armor.
And, please, take spotter and a vigorous frost spirit. If people are going down, use a stone spirit too.
After reading this posts people should finaly see that:
-It takes skill to play warrior. (people say it dont require: Busted)
-This class dont carry weak players. (people say it does: Busted)The funny part its people that says the warrior in the video is weak are telling all other players the above.
And tho those who said that OP can’t compare classes what are you doing when you compare warriors sustain to other classes? Busted.
It doesn’t take skill to play it. It takes knowledge to understand how to build it. I just watched OP’s massive fail and he just flat out isn’t good at gw2. You cannot use this as an example to say “Hey, if you suck you’ll lose even with warrior—but just barely!” Is that really the perspective you want to defend?
I assume that you are a person who can understant that build and can win, without skill, to that necro?
No don’t change the topic. You were about to explain in detail, profession by profession, how to beat the OP warrior specs. I’m listening.
I have one sugestion for people who think that warrior is OP.
Make a vídeo of yourself being beaten by one warrior, post it here and we will tell you what you did wrong (in case you dont se it by yourself of course).
So you know all the professions well enough to explain what builds and weapons to use to counter either sword or hammer/longbow warriors? Why not just spare us the games and list them all out here Mr Big Talk?
Necro should never had access to burning in the first place. I hate sword melee warriors. Too many people play warriors. <—my thoughts for the day, I’ll stop whining for another 24 hours
warriors are not OP. you just dont know how to deal with them. these qq threads about warriors are getting old and boring.
next please…
Warrior is a little OP.
“Ridiculously OP” is an exaggeration, but warrior clearly has some problems at the moment. They mostly stem from the interaction of Healing Signet, Adrenal health, and cleansing ire.
Once that anomaly has been acknowledged and addressed, we can re-examine other warrior “issues” (which may or may not be issues, once we’ve adressed HS+AH+CI).
Anomaly?? ANOMALY? Whhhhaaaaaaaaat?? An anomaly is pet utility canceling sic em. THATS an anomaly. Warrior is OP as intended. Thats how anet does whack a mole business.
They get the equivalent of a permanent troll unguent with some of the ridiculous specs. Totally not OP nothing to see here.

@ OP
Try ganking me and you get your face smashed in (figuratively speaking). So you better bring friends and/or an OP warrior spec. That’s your only chance.
Actually, for the most part, EU players tend to leave two players fighting alone and run off to do other things. There have been countless times I’ve run past two players duking it out, sometimes I sit and watch, but more often I’ll just head off and leave them be. Likewise has happened to me duelling with someone else, most will leave you alone to fight it out. Must be a cultural thing.
That said, I agree, WvW isn’t meant to be fair. But half the fun is in outsmarting the enemy with fewer numbers.
EU is much more sportsmanlike than NA. I have been on both. People on NA are spiteful.
Ranger is a good newbie friendly class, good survivability and not overpowered, pet can take the aggro which lets you watch things in pve rather than running circles spamming every button
only cons are nobody seems to like rangers in their party lol, i don’t know why, after watching the bear/bow ranger bots in early gw2 all zerging together they were quite a force lol
Newbie should not roll ranger. No one cares if it’s easy to level to 50. It’s easy to level on every profession. All that matters is 80. And ranger is only good in pve right now and tpvp (barely bc all you see is warriors in soloq). Ranger is just harder to play than warrior, no question.
Yeah, warriors are somewhat unstoppable when they are using GS + Sword / war horn or even less but they are certainly not helping their own team by abandoning them in the middle of a fight.
However if you are mostly encountering solo players using the runaway spec then they aren’t doing much harm having to resort to sprinting across the map whenever they are attacked. It’s WvW, you have to hold objectives. If anything, it’s just an annoyance.
That’s not even the good warrior weapons sets for pvp either.
This is viable tactic. Adapt.
Yes, this phrase comes from a man who spent 1h+ yesterday assaulting garry under constant banner resses.
Lol 1 hour t1 banner rez WORKING AS INTENDED! That’s fun! Everyone loves the skill lag banner rez minigame!! Weeeeeeeeeee
Best choice: yes. You can’t min/max a dungeon run without a ranger since no one else can buff with frost spirit and spotter.
I think its related to the fact that pretty much all pve warriors are full zerk. They don’t bother respeccing, re-gearing for WvW.
This must be it. Any warrior who know how to use sword or longbow with proper pvp build is going to just faceroll.
Not at all. Sword/sword warriors are unkillable and so are (to a lesser extent) longbow/hammer warriors. Are you trolling?
It’s been like that since FotM was first introduced. Just be careful when you’re running with the hammer. And like all other dungeon bugs in this game, you can expect a fix sometime before the release of GW3.
It’s a shame bug fixes in featured permanent content don’t take priority as a “core part of the world” ANET is strengthening according to their previously announced plans for the future of gw2.
This is such an annoying post for me because you have no idea how many times a guardian or warrior has launched foes out of my entangle roots. Yet, only ranger gets the blame for misused CC.
I have to disagree I rock in WvW it all depends on how you play. If you want to be in the blob and run around then no you’ll get squashed. But as support dropping crazy burst on your pin is crazy. I won’t get tons of details into my spec but I’ll play mostly range in wvw to drop the bomb. I have high crit and crit damage, also have regen and I use pets that have high toughness and vitality. I use to make fun of rangers running with bears but now they have condition removals and can take a hit they are pretty sweet. I don’t use them for fights I use them to take damage off of me and condition removals and what have ya. If you send your pet into a zerg it’s going to die. You’re also hard to chase down so there’s no real excuse for you to die unless you’re running in first for some reason. Sad thing is tho even in my guild they don’t include rangers in anything. When I play mine I’m usually solo with no party. Although my main is a warrior I find Rangers a lot of fun to play. The biggest issue I have is you have some big burst damage and then it just drops off till CD’s are up, so you are more relying on condition damage, bleeds, poisons, fire aoe. I would prefer more sustained dps then being an okay burst damage and an okay dot class. A warriors regen shouldn’t be on par with my burst damage. Good thing they suck dealing with poison
A couple things. Firstly, pet HP didn’t change for wvw. Secondly, poison doesn’t affect warriors at all really because of cleansing ire and healing signet. Thirdly, I know what build you run and I know how long your cooldowns are.
I love these suggestions. Honestly, though, I am going to say something controversial. I know prysin disagrees with me at least: longbow needs a shadow step. It just does. It would function like spectral walk in a way, or thief sword. Basically teleporting back to a chosen location. This will allow the ranger to blink away when the gap closes. Or, if you want to make it clunky like the rest of the profession, you could make you the your pet swap locations.
Something like that sounds cool, although with the evasion tools the longbow already has it might become a bit overpowered and where do we put it? Maybe hunters shot could be changed so if you press it again while stealthed you’ll shadow step to your pet or switch places with it?
This might be a great deception tool. Much of the time when I stealth the enemy knows where I was and 3 seconds isn’t much time to get much distance from them, leading to me taking hits. But if you could switch places with your pet they might think you swapped your pet, leading them to attack where your pet is, while you’ll actually be behind them. If you could shadow step to your pet they would think you were still in the location you vanished and would be attacking nothing.
The option to shadow step would allow you to fool players who were aware of this mechanic. You could intentionally swap your pet after a hunters shot instead of a shadow step, leading them attack your pets old location, not knowing you never switched places with it.
Or perhaps a shadow step would be better suited for a new utility or pet F2 skill, where you switch places with your pet, or better yet teleport to it since pets stick to targets fairly well.
Cool idea in principle but it’s not deceiving unless the pet changes. If they see the same pet teleport they know you teleported instead of swapped. The only way I can think of to make that work would be to summon an ally identical to your secondary pet and/or just summon the secondary pet. The reason why I said ally was because what if your secondary pet is on cooldown? You’d have to be creative (design wise) to get around that.
Well, longbow can be well played in a dungeon in certain instances, I believe. But I don’t consider longbow being unused in pve an issue. It’s not a problem because no one really goes ranged for a primary weapon in pve. Ranged is antithesis to nearly the entirety of the dungeon experience in gw2. So I don’t mind ranged weapons not being used there. Do you see longbow warriors in pve? How about staff ele’s? I don’t see that stuff.
In pvp however, longbow builds are just lacking relative to other ranger builds out there.
Stability on LR? Why not instead on “Protect Me” given how it’s subpar compare to the toughness and traited invuln from SoS? I won’t debate any other points (I disagree with some things regarding spirits), but your proposal for LR struck me; it’s so odd and out of the ordinary, I felt I had to comment. What’s your thinking on that?
I disagree. Use healig spring or troll against agony, or the orbs that drain your life in arah. You need burst heals for that. Heal as one is actually an awesome heal, that’s why it’s cast time is so long. I also think it should remove one condition on the ranger and pet, but that’s just me.
Anything you can slay, I can slay faster
I can slay anything faster than you!

I totally agree fordel. Also, mesmers spawning phantasm on the ground but I can’t send my pet up anymore? That’s ludicrous. Like pets running up towers was a game breaking issue. Why does dragons tooth not need LoS when warhorn / ranger does? I just want things to be fair across the board.

Thats my stupid idea. Bri’s ideas are probably better for a few reasons.
The longbow just really needs something. Hopefully anet can do something cool. Maybe not though. They did just rework longbow once.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Is really good now. That is all. Try it if you’re not using it. I feel like roaming it’s probably still not worth it compared to other options (signet of stone, etc). But in a group it’s pretty good. Quick question: does the shout Protect Me get canceled when the bear casts Shake it Off?
Don’t roam as a zerker. Thieves will 2 shot you and warriors will eat you for lunch. And that’s all you really see roaming anymore is those two.
As a roamer you want to be able to escape. Wear celestial or rabid armor if you want to roam. Use immobilization (muddy terrain, jungle spider, and/or drakehound). Bring fire aoe (either the trap or the offhand torch) in case you encounter a thief. You can try sick em for stealthing targets too but that’s a little easier to get away with in a group setting. You’ll need removal to get away from immobilization and a stun break (or stability). you’ll want either traited signet of stone or protect me. Keep points in marks, skirm, and wilderness. As you work into groups, you’ll want to start shifting points to nature magic and beastmastery for thingS like vigor on swap or spirits. I hope that helps.

Ya warrior longbow makes me totally jealous. I honestly hate our longbow and really don’t use it much. I have many kills on it but only because I used longbow a ton during the first 3 months of playing. It feels clunky to me and, I know it’s a common refrain, but it just doesn’t bring the damage or utility other ranger weapons bring for my playstyle. Wait till you face a warrior with all that AND cleansing ire. Then you’ll really be kitten ed off. They’re totally OP. immobilization doesn’t even neutralize them. You have to work your kitten off to keep up and they can just basically laugh. They get everything in one build: mobility, condition negation, buffs, healing, damage, condition damage, big time stuns. It’s basically the opposite of fun.
Ranger has fewer viable roaming builds than ever. I really want anet to address these problems with a bug-free path. I also want a million dollars. Lol
At least the specs that do work are very strong. I’m not sure what the fix is but I am sure we’ll be complaining about it! Haha
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Warrior healing is op (combined with other passive counters to condition/stuns). I really hope anet realize this soon, cause it’s breaking wvw apart. Nowadays you see 30%+ warriors in wvw.
Working as intended. Hey at least most aren’t smart enough to run hammer/longbow…yet.
Toxin will be a PvE npc skill only. A new condition will not be added to the game. Conditions are already OP.
unless you have proof of this statement it’s as valid as me saying that warriors wont get anymore buffs because they’re already “OP”, and we all know that’s a load of kitten…
A new condi would not be bad, especially if, as a lot of people are thinking, toxin will be a condi version of vulnerability, if this were to exist they could then nerf condi damage so it doesn’t hurt as badly as it does now if toxin isn’t present on the target, but make it hurt more when toxin is present, which would allow condi builds to not be totally garbage in PvE, create synergy between condi builds, and put them into line at the same time in PvP.
That being said, i think condis are fine as is and the new one should be more like how Disease was in GW1, aka it would spread through a group of enemies like wildfire and once it got going it just wouldn’t stop…. ah disease… how i miss you…
Unique buffs and conditions make professions stand out. I wonder what professions will get it? As far as the detoxin thing goes, I am not worried one bit about healing spring. I just don’t think that is even something to worry about.
Why? Probably, my guess, is they want to cut down on field duration to help with skill lag issues. That’s my guess. Also, because it’s more work to make local rather than global changes to the game. By the way, I like troll unguent in dungeons. I do not think healing spring is worth it, especially if you have a guardian in the party (odds are, you do). instead, take the troll you’ll live longer. Take the spirit elite with frost spirit (traited) and spotter. And don’t die with sword. That’s all a ranger really has to do.
But Guanglai says ele staff is good ?? I do not compute
![]()
How do you factor in the need to swap? Guanglai is just trying to make simple starightforward models as a means for comparison. In the same calcs the mesmer phantasms are assumed alive and so are ranger pets. Basically, it’s an idealized model neglecting the need for condition removal or things like that. I don’t think any profession is assumed to swap in any calcs.
Personally, I find simplfied models enlightening because it gives a fundamental understanding of the mechanics. Then you can of course debate swapping and stuff and how that affects dps. But you still want the ideal limits.
At the end of the day, I don’t feel like I should have to defend those calcs. I mean, clearly they’re an ideal limit. No reason to knock them for that. You got to start somewhere.

They also made some free transfers so you can move from overpopulated servers.
Nobody cared about it that time.I’m not on T1, and I have no issues with queues even when we get them because its ~15 min or less.
There were no free transfers.
“Transfer for free to a medium pop server”
No servers are/ever/will be, medium pop.
Good day sir.
Some EU servers are medium pop.
I bet this is why anet is pushing out the overflow wvw map. The QQ will reach deafening levels if they don’t give people a way to get achievements on stacked servers.
Except if you read the article about it (could have been in the faq or different article) they’ve specifically stated don’t look for it till at least spring of next year (2014). The season will be long over by then.
Oh I didn’t see that. Oh well, I guess.
Maybe not thoughtful effort phedre but you make them sound easy. Really wvw achieves are a time grind and I think anet balanced it pretty well. It’s hard enough to not be easy but not so hard that guys like me without all the free time still have a shot at doing them.
Tomes of knowledge plz
Dude jq lags trust me lol. It lags big time. Btw, miss you guys dasboda! Good luck!! May strikeforce find victory!!
I bet this is why anet is pushing out the overflow wvw map. The QQ will reach deafening levels if they don’t give people a way to get achievements on stacked servers.
Yea, I ran rampager’s for a while on my Ranger, its a funny glass cannon build
I stopped using Shortbow with it though and Ran Axe/Horn with longbow instead.
Horn alone can instantly apply 25 stacks of bleeds on someone.
Did you load it with sharpened edges? Did it activate keen edge all by itself? That is total insanity!
Ya, taym is right. You have to think more critically about what you’re saying. Game design is not simple. There’s a reason the devs are developing and we’re playing.
He actually isn’t… by making them merged you’re actually hurting a lot of trap build options because you NEED to throw it, that just takes too much time in a lot of scenarios and it gives them plenty of time to dodge it with the stupidly obvious “Throw Bundel” animation that we use…
If we had a trait, probably adept so you could take all 3, that made your traps larger and say put the spike trap on rez (just combine them since that one is useless anyway) then you could be a pretty effective trapper by only spending 10 points instead of 20, which allows you to spend those elsewhere. Not to mention for players in sPvP who just drop the traps on points anyway it frees up a master major trait slot…
Personally if they split the traits i’d like to see the 900 range trait also allow you to “Detonate” your trap within, say 5-10s of it being cast (doesn’t affect the CD).
<3 durz. I’m back on NA btw.
You guys can laugh, but he actually has a points with this post. I so often see people crying about bugs (forums, game, even IRL), and when I ask if they reported it, they always answer either “surely others did”, or “devs don’t care anyway”. For bugs to be fixed, they need to be reported first, and not many ppl do it.
I reported all the bugs I made threads on for patch day last time. Although I used the in-game bug submission instead of the bug sticky.
Problem is, ranger is so full of game breaking bugs from day 1 that frustrate the hell out of us all and they never get fixed.
It would be nice to show us some love once in a while rather than the constant swing of the nerf bat on the by far the weakest class in the game.
They fixed vigorous training right away for us.
