Allow your guild to be the only players to get your boons.
So anyone not running with their own guild gets left out to dry?
this doesn’t punish zergs at all, just pugs/militia.
Wvw is all “me me me” didn’t you know that? Look @ the train v train now. The special snowflakes are getting their own sandbox to play in. Hopefully they go in and never leave.
Anytime ranger is efficient it will be QQ’d about endlessly. We can’t have rangers being efficient.
Also, the assumption that ranger is easy to play has been disproven time and time again. If it’s so easy to play, why do so many struggle with it? Why do so many let their pets die or ignore the pets completely? Think about that.
Chopps, how does your build fair against a warrior with Mobile Strikes?
Well obviously I’d have more trouble.
To conclude – Ranger IS a good class, YES it does need work but name a class that doesn’t.
Answer: Guardian
Guardian, while not OP, brings every important team utility (besides portal) and also does more damage than warrior in a group (that’s a fact).
Guardian, while not OP
While not OP

OP
Chell, why does [Sic ’Em] scare you so much?
I hear you… And now that I’ve leveled up a true ranger, (warrior), to 80 and wvwvw’d some with him, I won’t be on my Ranger much anymore.
Shoot and forget AoE’s, powerful AoE bombs, great Condition ticks that actually mean something with 1/2 a dozen ways to apply them…. Survivability, na.. I’m not looking back, no pet to worry about, no pet chasing something on the other side of the map, or f2’s not working.
Just yesterday I had a 1vs1 in WvW against a Warrior, me being a “power” ranger (with Armaggedon gear, I just love the buuuurning effect on heal). LB and Axe/Horn. Only one stun breaker. Not a regen/tank build (30/20/10/10/0, IIRC..0 in beast mastery). And after 8 minutes. I misdodged, got stunned twice, and it went downhill from there.
8 minutes. A misdodge. With a build not geared for PvP. You really need to reevaluate Rangers in WvW.
And no, the warrior was not a noob.
You should have used more cripple and immobilzation to keep him at a distance.
No, I’m sorry you don’t like those abilities but if anything they need made stronger.
Imagine two or three of those guys running around haha
Lol ya I’ll stop now
Dogged march + poultry soup + Rune of Melandru. And healing signet.
Bye bye Chopps. And way more warriors run this then you realize, so if you havent been wiped by them yet you are a very lucky ranger.
Lucky? Maybe. Maybe not.
Maybe I’m just too slippery.

Well, if you split up the staff, because no one in that link can decide between Robinhood style Quarterstaff, and a more magical Druid staff, then I think that the Rifle beats it, just barely.
@Chrispy – Longbow doesn’t equal my vision of Rifle. But we need some serious power ranged option, usable in game. There’s ninche for ranged weapon with short-cd AoE shot, for CC weapon in general and for serious one-hit ranged attack which may make 25 minor trait for MM and Remorseless to get any consideration. Enough to make new weapon of it.
So, you want a Warrior with a pet?…still not following.
Are there no such divisions with rifle? :p
Only ranger good build is the condition one..but it sucks in wvw couse of lack of mobility..( where greatsword is a must )
Everyones here who say Ranger is strong..well..I have no words to describe them.
Or wait I’ ve found the words.. : You’ re thieves, warriors, mesmers, necros,Engineeres, who just love EASY KILLS..and the current ranger status is an easy kill. No way
Been playing warrior now..and it’ s 10 time stronger than ranger
Warroir current wvw roaming meta build loses to rabid ranger when that ranger equips muddy terrain, jungle spider, and drakehound. The reason is because warriors cannot deal with immobilization well. Take keen edge and sharpened edges along with a stun break/ invuln like a traited signet of stone. If you like protect me, you might take the shout and play this technique with 30 in skirmishing for trap potency and a spike trap. But really marks is a good line for the condition duration. You can get nearly 100% bleed uration with 4 krait and 2 afflicted runes.
There, I gave it up. That’s my build: 30/10/30/0/0. I’m sick of hearing the whining. Now go own warriors.
The issue I see with rangers is that you’re pushed into the condition pressure role. And if you don’t take the immobs, it’s very ineffective.
Now go hunt, be happy.
my kill/death ratio against warriors since starting to use this build has gone way way up. You cannot beat warriors with the so-called OP spirit build.
One extremely strong combo is spider immob + muddy terrain + entangle + bonfire + sword auto -or- hornet’s sting back into shortbow. Take piercing arrows, signet mastery, signet of the beastmaster, wilderness knowledge, offhand training, and empathic bond with sharpened edges. GG

Kasama, do you think stability training should apply to all pets and just be 5 in beastmastery?
Also @ OP: wolf howl isn’t going to save you from two stunlock warriors unless it lets you run. You need muddy terrain to face them.
“What new weapon would you like to see on ranger?”
This question came up on the subreddit yesterday and the highest voted item was a hammer. The second highest voted item was a staff. I cannot recall if whip was mentioned. People asking for rifles had few upvotes and responses indicated the community feels ranger already has enough ranged options for now, also, most feel it doesn’t fit thematically.
Ah yes, the basilisk.
Are you using fortifying bond and companions might and also counting pet damage? Are you min/maxing your gameplay? In other words, do you do things like vs Old Tom use a bear (on secondary), signet of the wild, and troll unguent to body block all the spinning bolts? Do you use birds against the final boss in the snowblind fractal? Do you use dog/spider for immobilze vs rushing grawl in grawl fractal?
I never hear people point out the good pets do. It’s always the bad. Also you might choose to drop the fire fields if you’re only getting 6 stacks might. If your team isn’t blasting it’s probably not worth it.

Ranger has amazing survival though if played right, definitely last longer than any warrior if you ask me.
You are correct about that. One issue with ranger is many players won’t take advantage of those strengths and instead end up going down like ambient creatures.
Interesting post. To add to perception, I think, in general, losing to a ranger feels cheap due to the existance of the pet. It feels like when you lose to a perma strealth thief. Add in the so called common knowledge that spirits are too simple and perhaps too strong, you get the perception of imbalance as a result.
Many times, when a ranger gives a boon it is perceived to be worth less. “Ranger’s healing spring is worse than elementalist healing rain”, “ranger fury or vigor isn’t special”, and so on. But as soon as ranger does something that seems to help “is this OP? Should we nerf it?”.
Contrast that with the typical review of guardians: “While not OP, guardian does everything and the kitchen sink”. Everything is always qualified with guardian like it’s a sacred profession.
That’s all, honestly, a bunch of bull but look around and see who believes it. Look at the common professions you see running around the game. That’s the hivemind meta. And many of those players won’t know how to even blast a field.
In what game mode mathias?
He didn’t have 100% control over the pet either O.o
Does your pet double your bag count though?
Stow triggers Mighty Swap and Vigorous Training, if you get into combat while the pet is stowed. It can put your pets health back to 100%, when you come out of combat. If you’re doing a jumping puzzle, it gets rid of the pet so it doesn’t block your visibility. And when you go past a ledge, it makes sure your pet isn’t left behind.
Great comment, never made the connection with mighty swap, thanks.

Gimili wasn’t Aragorn’s pet?
He was Legolis’s pet. Aragorn had applied fortitude, bloodlust, permanent 25 stack might and fury along with perma-stow pet.
Well had some sleep and no longer full of kitten and vinegar about the subject….
Necros are good in Zergs, much like any other class. You could be the worst player alive and still do well, just due to the sheer amount of meat shielding going on. I can run full berserker well bombing if i want and never die. Doesnt make me a good player, just means i know to allow other people to take the damage while i snipe from the back, which is insanely boring to me.
1v1, i used to have no complaining about this, my biggest gripes with this now are thieves who manage to stay stealthed half the time and then me blinded the other ( no im not standing in black powder). They always have the uncaanny ability to go stealth at 5-10% life with a full range of conditions on them, only to come out of stealth a few seconds later, full hp, no conditions and destroying my health.
Small group,2-5 players. This is what im really complaining about. The amount of small man teams that run tons of heavy classes is really annoying. Once they catch up to me, which they will due to my poor mobility as a necro, im CC’d to death without any hope of being able to do anything.
Stun breakers are useless because theyre on such long cooldowns compared to the amount of knockbacks some classes can have. Ill use it and then bam, on the floor a second later again. It is true that a necro can get 3 seconds of stability every 7 seconds, if the necro spends 30 points into their +crit damage tree, which is entirely wasted on any condition necromancer especially if theyre running dire armor.Deathshroud isnt anywhere near as good as it once was, i have 120% of my life as life force. 25,000*1.20=30,000 effective health while in dreathsroud. Yet i can be full deathshroud and be knocked out of it within a few seconds from just one enemy player. I would like to make some sense of this but because the combat log is so bad i only see about a quarter of any damage done to me.
Anyways im rambling, heres my main gripes: (sounds like it should be in the necro forums but the devs never go there).
-Small man roaming sucks as a necro unless you have other classes to rely on, necros bring nothing to the table as group utility.
-With deathshroud being the way it is and the lack of dodges, healing and stability options if a necro is targeted by more than 2 players well be as good as dead (unlike some classes i see tank multiple people). Deathshrouds cooldown is too long, if its suppose to be the necro answer to dodge mechanics its very lacking, 10 secs is too long. Couple it with the fact that it degrades over time and only a few builds can regen it efficently…rather have vigor sometimes.
-The lack of defensive options is also compounded by the fact that the necros best defense is a good offense. sadly due to the ease of which some classes have to stability, it totally negates our offensive defense. Not to mention that necros have the shortest fears in the game when its obviously the main focus of the class. (thief fear 4 seconds, my fear is 1 3/4 seconds according to the tool tip with 80% condition duration)
-power builds lack a lot of things, the main thing being mobility. You cannot simply chase down a lot of classes. Our teleports only move us back and DS#2 is so slow that people just out run it. If you catch up to a necro, it more than likely youll be able to stay on them.
- the amount of condition cleansing that goes on.From what i learned in this thread:
-i should only 1v1 people or stay in a zerg.
-Necros are meant to be at the center of a zerg.
-i need to know how to play.
-Necros need a nerf.If you’re complaining about stun warriors 1v1, I can relate. Those are OP 1v1 and can be really annoying, your best chance against them though is stability/stun breaks and lots of conditions.
They cannot efficiently cleanse conditions is correct. Muddy terrain is great against them if you’re a ranger. The warrior cannot kill what the warrior cannot catch.
I have faced killer elementalists 1v1 in wvw. I play a killer ranger. So I think you shpuld check your build and traits. Elementalist and ranger don’t have a lot of good builds and if you misbuild you’re strongly penalized. That is the root issue. Play a stronger build is my advice.
My guardian, Skullcrusher, is level 20. :/

Nevermind wethospu did check that. Sry I’m on mobile atm
Did you confirm if it increases or decreases damage?
That it increases damage has been settled for a while.
There’s speculation in this thread that it broke in a recent patch. I’d make zero assumptions when dealing with ANET bugs.
Do you run spotter and frost spirit with a sword? Because you sound like a bearbow.
Did you confirm if it increases or decreases damage output?
(edited by Chopps.5047)
as a dev said long ago, not in verbatim: pad up if you need to. if you trust your team you can go full dps.
I don’t see why it’s a problem for more skilled players to get better rewards, in this case faster clear times. Isn’t it only logical that more damage = faster kill?
Sure some players wont want you in their party, but why would you want to party with people who don’t want you in the first place?
You meant always wear mostly berserker/assassins, right? Because I do not believe it’s wise to tell pugs to “pad up”. Especially when most of them couldn’t proc might or fury to save their lives.
Ya in pve, pvp is completely different
Lol yes! Anet sure did! Inb4 warrior / thief / necro elite. You have no idea what you just started.

This is not a pug buster. I have soundly defeated it with pugs with decently fast runs. You need 5 competent players, that’s it.
Where is this magical place where you can mooch off the system and still live and have cable?
If you can’t beat the oozes…it’s not…six tries? Dear lord.
This topic gets reposted in one form or another almost every week.
Damage / crowd control / boon generation and condition cleansing
Is the trio you’re looking for. There are no tanks in gw2. Not trying to be mean, just wanted to point that out since knowing it helps you build a foundation for understanding gw2.
To add to guanglai’s comments, every time I see a ranger in a dungeon PUG I politely ask if they’re running spotter and vigorous spirits and a spirit. Few know what spotter is and even fewer know that only one instance of spotter counts in the group. Almost all rangers I see in dungeons use longbow, while it has it’s uses in dungeon, really shouldn’t be a primary weapon by any means. I love using 3 spirits in the underwater fractal. They really make a HUGE difference there.
Does any other ranger do this? Doubtful. Rangers are so down on themselves seem unable to look at the builds that do work. They’re always forcing things. They’re forcing the wrong pets and the wrong weapon for the situation too often. Then, when they try sword and die, they blame it on the sword instead of learning how to play with it.
Like I’ve always said: on paper ranger is easy to play. At first glance it’s easy. But it has all these quirks that add up to make it the hardest profession to play well.
If you’re a new player roll a guardian or warrior. The skill floor is much lower. To me, warrior is a LCD type profession.

Playing tpvp is like driving a car in NYC. Everyone else is an idiot and you’re the perfect driver.
Necro’s are OP for zergs, you shouldn’t be complaining =p
When can I catch you online next, warriorjrd? I want to crush more. (Archer Angel)
Listen, my ranger has a Marriner’s Flask and can barely stand in the first place.
This is very similar to my current playstyle. If you took muddy terrain I think we’d have basically the same build.
Edit: not quite true but relatively close builds, I’m running rabid and shortbow though with travelers runes.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Have you thought this through? What would this do to apothecary/beastmaster builds? Sucks to be someone who farmed that gear.
Rangers themselves are good, objectively speaking. It’s just that 99% of rangers are garbage and do literally everything wrong, so no one wants to take their chances with them.
One of the dumbest comments I’ve seen. Why would Ranger players be worse than those that play any other class, on average? Most play multiple classes anyway. Bad players are bad, good players are good, irrespective of class.
Guanglai is correct. Ranger has very few viable builds. If you build wrong you stand zero chance. Other professions are more forgiving. This makes most rangers just awful in practice.
I can’t hit anything with longbow up close so I hope they don’t nerf the long range shot at 1200 range.
