It took me about 2 hours to conquer the clock tower. I beat Liadri in 7 tries. So roughly equivalent? Maybe one is harder for some? My personal opinion is that the clock tower is slightly more difficult. But they’re weird to compare because they require somewhat different skill sets and outlooks.
Relax, why so mad? Cof 1 is just a DPS test. Of course it’s easy (unless you can’t frogger!) Ranger is useful everywhere—dungeons, fractals, jubilee. The point is that rangers main gripe, the lack of group buffs, has gone away now ghat vigorous spirits and spiritual knowledge were combined into a single adept trait, making spirits incredibly useful. Along with the spotter buff to 150 aoe precision, ranger is basically a good choice. Don’t take my word, just play spirits yourself.
It bothers me that you still troll the forums all day everyday, trying to say that there isn’t anything wrong with the Ranger class. I know you are entitled to your opinion…but come on man…even the people who were ADAMANT that the world was flat EVENTUALLY admitted they were full of it.
Good job OP! Said it very well.
No they didn’t. :/
Your source is the flat earth society? I don’t think they’re very reputable to put it mildly. They’re also completely irrelevant.
Anyways, my source is the guild DnT (Death and Taxes), the guild that has many PvE records in gw2. I think you need to check yourself because the COF world record (standing for a month) is shown on the second video.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/84268-the-perfect-dps-ranger-guide-for-real/
It looks like you’re at least a month or two behind the meta. But that’s ok, the average PUG is probably about 6 months behind the meta so don’t feel bad.
Now, if you want to change the meta, you have to do things faster than shown in those videos—without ranger’s huge team wide buffs or massive damage. Good luck!

I don’t like judgmental people. Especially overly sensitive ones that can’t understand the spirit of friendly competition. I won’t let you ruin my night. I don’t need this game. Good day! And good riddance.

Alright, here’s the imgur album. I’m in the center of the screen wearing basic karma armor; DeWolfe is looking pretty unique and really stands out in a sea of dark colors (people love their shades of black).
Do you have to stop in place when you drink a forty?
lol that song you posted.
Edit: it’s a 40 oz water, don’t freak out (or is it?)
Skady, where art thou? I miss you.
Don’t you miss me too Chopps? I’m deeply hurt!
You’re cool and all. Skady is just as competitive as me, she’s a ranger extraordinare, and I miss her.
I’d do mostly PvP and WvW, maybe jumping puzzles here or there—or an occasional guild mission. I’d run each dungeon once and do the personal story. I wouldn’t be carving pumpkins, dancing at effigies, or mining piñata that’s for sure.
Do you think this would work well when doing light up the darkness?
I wish I could take more vacation time to play with your crew, Wotah. Sounds like you guys always have a good time regardless of ppt. JQ is such an awesome community—I’m just glad to be here.
Yeah he needs a nerf. I only took a few tries to beat Liadri but in that time I was hassled for messing up a deadeye farm. Big whoop. It’s still the best way for ranger to get the 5 gambit achievement so hopefully the mechanics remain the same and the loot is nerfed.
The reason you can take more defense and still kill her on time with 8 is because the orbs basically give her stacks of a special vulnerability. In other words, you hit her harder after each orb toss.
On guardian, you mentioned rangin her didn’t work. I’d wager your range attack is too slow. I don’t play guardian though so I don’t know the best way for them to do it. All I know is I shredded Liadri with my shortbow on ranger (I haven’t done Light up the darkness yet so I might have to amend that statement!).
I hope that helps

Skady, where art thou? I miss you.
Is ferrari a rare drop in Gw2? XD
I need to improve my German! Is there a setting for that in the build link? Anyways, thanks for posting, looks fun and powerful. My questions are:
1) Why not pick bleed duration runes?
2) why not Keen Edge? (10 in marksmanship)
Read a few posts up, my man, I answered that very question. Be cool
Edit: I only troll the wvw matchup thread (just rickrolled them yesterday)
Edit: Yes, I clearly have too much free time. That is changing though! I haven’t been putting in near the same hours I used to.

Well isn’t this thread just a ball of love?
I always see power wellomancers roaming so I range them. Can’t kill what you can’t well spike!
What was that one game? Ninja Gaiden? I remember that being a challenge.
Just a Short video from tonight. It’s been fun!
Ranger brings frost spirit and spotter for a massive ~12% damage boost to the team so that’s basically a good thing to have. If you’re doing ranger in dungeons or fractals you should be using this build or a variant of it. And it’s viable—indeed, desirable.
I know rangers aren’t perfect. Even so, you can feel good about taking one into a dungeon. It has evades, man. You live all day. And ranger brings a lot of support, utility, and, yes, damage. It’s not so bad.
7 tries / ranger here — you can do it too!
There are some valid complaints about latency and visibility. Neverthesless, be like water! Water flows into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water flows into a vase, it becomes the vase. Be like water — adapt! As Bruce Lee goes on to say “water can flow or water can crash” — get your flow on and crash Liadri’s weak kitten in phase 2. Peace
Funny thing about that is a lot players on these forums complained about there not being enough killing back during the Bazaar and Cutthroat.
I happened to like everything so far but I’m easy.
So ANET surely reads the forums and recognizes this. I’m sure they’ll do rotations of everyone’s favorite content. The best thing about gw2 is the diversity of the population so anet delivers diverse content.
Actually, my bird did some damage. At the start of phase 2 I swapped to the eagle and got a little burst in (probably 6k or so) before BOOM HAHA PET DED NOOB. Silly visions of mortality—I think my pets get all hypno-eyed and just walk right into them.
CHUCK DONT GO INTO THE LIGHT!!!!!
I don’t think those actually kill the pets unless they blow up on you and the pet is close… I know my pets are clearly not seeing the red circles and moving… Maybe they’re color blind?
Lol I have no clue to be honest. I was too focused on eyeing the aoe and avoiding it. The pets died so kitten fast I couldn’t even see what hit them. Oh, and, of course, there’s no pet combat log SO WHO KNOOOOOOOOWS.
Although you have been extremely accurate with your understanding of pve, bro, big time props from a small time player.
liadri is as much RNG based as megaman bosses.
Dude if this game was half as hard as classic mega man, can you imagine the forum complaints?
Lol xsorsus, man, I love your videos. “Ranger won? Perplexing…”

Ranger was my main for 6 months until the nerfs every week by ANet. R.I.P ranger.
Ranger was my main through that, it got shaky granted but still my main, Liadri though… I draw the line there, if our mechanic (and thus reason I play ranger) is useless In “challenging content” I see no reason to play the profession when all the others I enjoy are unphased
Not to brag (yes totally bragging), I beat Liadri in 7 tries today. I lost to her in about the same amount of attempts, maybe a few less, yesterday. So overall it took me probably 15 or so attempts.
Obviously, the pet wasn’t worth jack kitten. But ya, with that gear prysin sent you, I know you can do it. After all that talk of carrion I just said “meh, screw it, I’m going in zerker”. I’m pretty sure the sigil of purity on the shortbow helped a lot. Shortbow is clutch in so many ways in phase 2. LR is clutch for orbs: breaks stun and destroys orb all in one instant skill.
If you’re here because you’re frustrated, mad, etc, I have four words for you
You Can Do It
I believe in you!
Ranger (7 tries)
- Berserker / Superior Rune of Ranger with Third Place Medal ammy and celestial trinkets.
- Greatsword (sigil of energy) / Shortbow (sigil of purity) — both zerker stats
- Signet of the hunt / signet if stone (traited with sig of beastmaster) / lightening reflexes (for orbs, damages so destroys orb after pull)
- 30 (sig of beast / piercing arrows / predators instinct) / 15 (primal reflexes) / 15 (wilderness knowledge) / 10 (natures protection)
- Lifesteal food (dragon candy) and power maintenance oil
Remembering to stutter step really helps! Don’t forget to circle near the middle of the arena since the circular geometry naturally results in a shorter arc to safety. It’s kind of like passing on the inside of a curve, right?
Note to rangers: anything involving your pet is basically worthless (signet of renewal, empathic bond, shared anguish to name a few). Keep a bird for phase 2 and swap when you think it can do the most damage before getting blown up. I did almost all my damage with shortbow although I did have to swap to GS at the very end to kill and orb and then [Maul] Liadri for the win. Good luck!

The Walking Dead walks among us.
I never said any perceived problems were solved. I just offered this link to show that ranger is good to have in a 5 person dungeon group.
You should watch the video because this is for dungeons specifically in the context of having maximum DPS group.
Nope, not that cof speed run with two thieves, here there’s like half a dozen other videos just showing ranger pwning under various circumstances. Then there’s a very good discussion.
Regarding that 3rd point, you can hilt bash the air and it still gives the pet the buff as far as I can recall, unless it was changed in a recent patch.
Ya, sorry for teasing, I do see where OP is coming from and he or she has a few valid points. I also thought the ticket cost was a little high although ANET is injecting a lot of gold into the economy and thus needs some strong gold sinks.
Poor little kitten, no one is yelling, I wager the caps key just got stuck on the guy’s keyboard. Tears do that to keys sometimes.
If I duel a greatsword ranger, I want sword because sword is faster. I’m not even that good yet I can use dodges and sword to evade every attack on the greatsword chain.
The best reason to use greatsword—besides power builds like you mentioned— is in pve if you hate sword or in wvw if you want a block and mobility as well as an evade on autoattack (useful in a zerg clash to stay alive). Otherwise, particularly in condition builds, torch and dagger are probably better.
As you’ve seen, in gw2, weapons have a large effect on build decisions. The bleed to vulnerability change was definitely a controversial change. My guess is ANET didn’t want to make greatsword the default weapon to use in any given build. But maybe there’s more to it.
It would be nice to hear why devs make the changes they do but then they’d be putting themselves out there for even more criticism so I can see why they don’t do that.
I don’t care. I love it.
Lol I can see the post title “W key not awarding loot at same rate?” Or “Nerf the S key!”
I felt obligated to post this here since no one has in like a month since this has been known. Thanks to Guang for being a true player and Brazil for always knowing how to recognize what pwns. Edit: this work is not my theorycrafting or videos so, ya, lol there’s no “chopps bias”. Check it out already!

Meh, I don’t know. Only two responses before it got to the 3rd page so I just picked yours as the answer. O well
Lolololol noice
Lol I fear I may have hyped it up a little but yes I will screen cap the next time I see dewolfe in wvw. I don’t actually know him/her! :p
Oh lol I thought this was on crit damage and how having it makes it more or less punishing rather than challenging
Ya they must recognize the problems with latency and camera etc. all the cited issues. When it does return (and it will), lets hope they address these bugs.
You can run spirits with longbow/remorseless with valkryie and do quite well, maybe that’s why she had longbow?
Thanks for the responses,
we might need a bigger room for lupi…
Lol lower servers hate us and think we all spam 1 bawhahahahaha
They patched all the exploits where a party could skip ahead or complete all boss chests in one path. Besides that, not much.
