Chill axe bro, life goes on. Bigger fish to fry in this world than what tiny fractal you get.
Why stop at GvG? If you want a true test of skill, tpvp. You guys remind me of my little brother. I’d beat him in halo and he’d be like “SNIPER ONLY BATTLE” because he thought he was a better sniper than me. I defeated him in that too. Now he’s in college and doesn’t game which sort of sucks. I miss our trash talk.
Want to tPvP [PYRO]? We’ll take any challengers in that, too.
No, I play for fun. You guys are the chest thumpers here. Go play Curse and prove your worth. Tell Symbolic I said hi.
look at me, i’m not a nerd because i only play for fun, but i like to name drop ESPORRTSSSS PROSS to look cool on forumzz
I don’t know symbolic—he plays ranger and I think that’s cool so I’m pretty much automatically a fan :p It’s not name dropping when paradigm getting signed is the biggest news in gw2 all week. What am I? Larry King?
@Ben Our actions on the field speak for themselves—“zero knowledge of how we perform as a guild” is an absolute. The Church of Saturday Feints does not deal in absolutes. Enough of these trifling debates—I shall enter glorious battle for the Quarry.

Maybe, ranger is fastest at bursting down gate as far as I know. Also, another untraited frost spirit could be taken.
This post is so last December. Ranger is in the current meta fastest dungeon runs as well as a top tPvP profession.
The first time I have to agree with you.
One exception: rangers are forced into defensive condition builds (BM/Spirits) and Power rangers are in most cases useless in high level tPvP (although a lot of fun in sPvP)The problem with his comment is the fastest CoF run still had 3 Warriors and a single Ranger iirc (I didn’t watch the video, only read the thread). do you honestly think you could swap out a second warrior in favor of a second ranger and still maintain the same speed? Because I don’t think they could.
2 theives 1 ranger 1 warrior 1 mesmer :p

“Hey, guys, let’s stop playing basketball. Instead, under controlled conditions, we’ll see who can dribble the ball passed the other opponents to prove how much better we are than you.”
Amazing Curse signed Paradigm and not Pyro. Geez, what we’re they thinking? World’s best right here!
a better analogy would be participating in a bar fight compared to a boxing match.
Not really, it’s more like a boxing match where you’re not allowed to dodge punches like Mike. Because open field evasion “isn’t a true test of skill”.
open field evasion into a tower or into siege range isn’t a true test of skill. everything else is and does happen in gvg’s
I wonder why Curse never signed any GvG players; they’re so talented in every aspect of the game. Amazing they signed Paradigm over Pyro.

They want not the difference between a bar fight and a boxing match; no, they want a boxing match that’s focused on one fundamental skill. Just like my basketball analogy focused on one skill.
The GvG apologists are trying to push their simplified version of WvW and we don’t play that nonsense.

Do you want to spar analogies under controlled conditions too?

Judging by the way you kids fawn over Pyro you’d think Curse Gaming would have signed them instead of Paradigm.
There’s already a few discussion threads going on in the Cutthroat Politics subforum.
Oops my bad

PvE – Superior Rune of the Ranger : Playstyle = 20/25/0/25/0 berserker/spirit with sword/warhorn and axe/axe
WvW::All kinds of stuff; Settler’s for frontlines, valkryie or carrion for midlines, rampager or berserker for backlines
I’m glad, a lot of the people in this thread pining for Gnashblade basically overhyped it for me. So I stopped voting for gnashblade and instead voted for kiel.
Mission Bald Jade Eagle—status: Jimmies Rustled
I like stability training because it allows the ranger to get off the pet utility even while under massive CC—at least if you run bears or porcine. Many people think the pet utility is bugged and while ya, it’s quirky sometimes, really it’s usually your pet getting interrupted if you can’t get off your pet utility.
Indoles, add carrion, rampager, and valkryie to your list of viable armor sets. Yes, rampager too.
Meh, believe ranger is UP all you want, more bags for me.
I’d just like to thank the awesome JQ community and all the guilds we have out there kicking tail and taking names later. Your superior play makes it so much fun. It’s a pleasure—nay, a privelege—to fight along side you.
Your existence in T1 match-ups comes down to a roll of the dice .Nothing you can really do about that.
Do you really think these match-ups were done without the slightest of manual input from Anet?
Yes
I think EU uses the true RNG (just look at some of the crazy matchups) … But I do tend to think NA is massaged a bit because of all the complaining. Otherwise we would see an eighth rank server up against a 2 or 3 server on a consistent basis like you do in EU. And you did see that initially in NA matches, but it seems to have stopped. NA RNG is far less volatile.
There is no special treatment, it’s just that the ratings are much closer in the EU bracket perhapse because all the guilds didn’t decide to stack the same servers or perhapse they have 3 more servers.
Also i think Eu uses better clients then the NA ones
Apparently EU is better at everything! Weeeeeeee
It’s actually true.
Except the olympics

As designated Archer Angel of the Church of Saturday Feints, I’d like to give thanks for the bounty we’ve received that allows us to pay for lemongrass or anything we’d like. Praise be to Jedsus, Mance the Pope, and Wok the Holy Ghost.
Also who said RET runs lol. We had 80 man JQ and we were getting farmed by them.
We kept coming back cuz we love fights. We learned what the 80 man was doing (conditions) and we adapted our utility bars to beat you with half numbers.
GG.
lol button bars. zerg servers dont know how to press anything but 1. Why do you think lemongrass is so expensive.
o rly
It’s sunday…14 pages. Wow.
Just chiming in to say I solo’d it with my ranger after a few practice runs. Sigil of justice and powerful potion of outlaw slaying really helps. In particular, I used offhand training and sword/warhorn with offhand axe on secondary.
Lol

Just to add some more, I guess I am talking about feeling important to a zerg… you know here are some examples:
Commander: “Alright mesmer, drop a portal down to get the rest of our guys up”
“Mesmers, viel please for the zerg on my command”Commander: “Can necros please put their wells on the door incase the zerg rushes out”
Commander: “Gaurdians, blast finisher and might buffs please”
Commander: “Ele static fields please”
Like when is the last time (if any) that a person has heard a commander have a routine role (that another class cannot do) just for the ranger?
I was laughing because you forgot “WATER FIELDS! BLAST!”
Legend has it that the glorious leaders of our Church of Latter Day Feints once spent a year in silence to better understand the sound of a whisper.
More reasons to use sotw than just healing power; just a thought.
Lol

Well…no, spoj, you dodge about 2 seconds after the shake to evade AoE—not prevent spider spawn. When I PuG that boss, I just like to clear all the waves of spiders first. Unless they changed it, there’s like a dozen waves of spiders then you can attack the boss. Use single target to avoid aggroing more spiders (no piercing arrows rangers!)
Is apologizing for being an adult a Maguumeon custom?
“Do not boast and show pride; be humble, let our actions on the field speak for us.” And so it is written.
Just accept our church into your heart, Faithless. You must convert from Faithless to Faithful.
Jed’s saints cannot be offended, for we are blessed.
“TA p3 is impossible…it’s all I need for dungeon master”
Simin is easier than this wimpy boss now? Geez, anet, how easy did you make simin?
JQ does GvG w/o the ‘v’: GG
Did you use a bear? What about Signet of Stone?
Great job leading our humble Church last night, Rav.
I sometimes use Prayer to Lyssa with fortifying bond. It’s on a short CD and can proc retal.
Ya I always see mobs literally walk into my barrages. I believe they do the same for 100b but someone ought to check that. It looks like there’s code telling the baddies to get in our aoe and eat it. Whirling defense is another attack that pulls tons of aggro.
Oh and one more thing guys: THE SWORD ISNT BROKEN. Sheesh. Understand that? L2P
If you guys don’t like sword, ask for a new mainhand like dagger. Stop asking for rifles. Stop asking to change existing weapon mechanics. Thank you.
This is so beyond the point it’s actually funny. We don’t want daggers, no one is asking for rifles here. We don’t want a new mainhand we want to use Swords. Hell, no one is even asking for a mechanical change to swords. We’re asking for sword to actually function properly.
Oh really? How’s it off the point? The sword isn’t broken. You must not pvp or else you’d know why it’s not broken.
I’ve been here almost a year now. I’ve seen this complaint almost every single day. There are 100x more sword complaints than people crying about “no rifle” like you. Clearly, the solution is an mainhand than can match sword’s DPS and evades but doesn’t lock you onto target. This weapon would be chosen over the sword in much PvE and WvW—the only issue I see is how to make it unique in spvp.
You, Kal, are off the point. You’re so far off the point that my team already won 500-0. You’re miles away from any logical point.

I posed this question to Battosai as something to ask devs. Being a pvp podcast, it was never asked. I notice rangers frequently getting aggro. In particular, I often get the most in most dungeon runs I do.
Why might this be? I think others in the group secretly aggro leech by taking a few knights pieces. Bosses will focus mostly based on who’s doing the most DPS as well as who is closest. With melee sword berserker ranger, the boss will tend to focus you. Mobs will as well.
It’s penalizing against rangers in a few intangible ways. People see the ranger dying and assume rangers cannot melee because they’re too squishy. Compounding that, new players rarely properly use sword weapon evades while also being on autoattack so when they fail a few times they come to the forums assuming that “it can’t be my fault, this is ANET’s fault!”. When in reality, the ranger was doing so much damage that the boss focused him a lot. Not knowing how to use weapon evades, he died.
Also there’s the misconception that ranger lacks damage and therefore always needs full berserker and 30/30/0/0/10 when in reality you NEED fortifying bond and nature magic and spirits and a 20/25/0/25/0 build. The ranger is often afraid to take a knights piece or any vitality for fear of lack of damage.
The bias against pets and spirits also led to these misperceptions, as spirits were seen as too squishy and too little use while pets were kind of invisible: their damage numbers don’t appear in the combat log.
Thankfully this is changing. I don’t think there’s a bug, I just think you’re getting a ton of aggro because you’re up in the boss’s face and actively caving it in.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
The only concern I have with Ranger, (I’ve been playing one since release) is that it forces a specific playstyle that is simply underpowered in some situations. You do not have a choice, if you want optimal DPS you must have a pet in the fray. Thus if the pet is focused you are effectively “disarmed” for about 1/3 of your damage potential.
Which other class can you disarm?
Which other class is forced to change weapons in fight?
Oh that and I think asura rangers should be able to ride their pets.
This is the Voodoo Magic ranger’s post that resurrected and zombiefied a dead thread. I think we ought to ship Banal Hem off to the school of Necromancy.
sigh so much facepalm in this thread
Something quite important (imho) that you may want to add to drakes: their tail swipe attack, which they like to use early in a fight, is the Ranger’s only Blast Finisher. Our large and long water field makes drakes a very good source of AoE healing. Drop field, F4 to drake, drake engages and blasts. In a tight group of 5 that drop lots of fields, the drake is a nice party addition.
As to the hyena, it can be hilarious in 1v1 with double the knockdowns. Very poor stats though, yes.
Ah yes, I knew I was forgetting something! Thank you, I’ll add that to the Drake entry
Call of the Wild, warhorn offhand, is now a blast finisher as well.
If you guys don’t like sword, ask for a new mainhand like dagger. Stop asking for rifles. Stop asking to change existing weapon mechanics. Thank you.
It’s intended. You guys were the ones that cried and cried about how underpowered spirits were and how easy they die. You got what you asked for.
Seriously, rangers are either “HAHA GG RANGER SUCKS ROLL NECRO/WARRIOR” or “ZOMG RANGER OP NEEEEERF”
My profession can never, ever win with you people.
