err.. Faction is a stand alone campaign, not an expansion.. you can play it on its own, no need Prophecies….
It was BOTH a standalone game and an expansion. Ha another thing they did right over HoT no one would say its a stand alone game, even if it could not enough content.
I saw a comment on dulfy that said it would cost around 800 gold when you factor in the drinks.
LOL wow, I was gonna try it and bought one set of the sigils then I paused and thought… waitaminute, this is most likely like the halloween one… looked at the 10k drinks achievements and said nope I’m not that desperate for dandruff on the shoulders.
dulfy said its significantly cheaper than nightfury.
What’s the total cost (or ballpark range) for the new shoulder’s.
Granted I know TP prices go up and down, just curious about how much it will cost, even a big range of figures would be nice. Also I read in the dulfy guide you can put smaller versions in the mystic forge to upgrade many of its pieces like snowflakes and stuff. Is this way cheaper or just cheaper to buy the big mats? Just curious if anyone has done the math and wouldn’t mind sharing.
It’s a shame that people think this gem store is so bad. Cause you know, it’s really not.
I won’t say its bad. GW1 had a gemstore too that I liked buying from for a few skins/outfits. It’s just that each gw1 expansion had a ton of new skins/items in game and gw2 expansion has barely any besides gemstore items.
Personally I think HoT overall is pretty decent. I like parts of it a lot. It also has some serious flaws. A lot of people have made countless forum threads about these so I won’t go into to much details. Instead I want to look at what makes a good expansion to a mmo and I personally believe one of the best examples is actually the first gw1 expansion Factions. I realize some may find it comparing apples to oranges since gw2 is a different beast than gw1, but as both are the first expansions to their respective games it also seems logical to compare them.
1) The number of zones: Currently HoT has 4 zones, 12 max if you count the multiple tiers. (though canopy and underground aren’t nearly as big as the main) Factions has 4 distinct regions, all with a ton of zones/maps. Included here is a link to just one of the regions Kaineng Center just to give a small glimpse of the major difference.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Kaineng_City
I’m not even going to bother adding up all of the maps/zones/outposts/missons/challenge missions/pvp zones etc for each of the 4 regions, but as you can clearly see from just one of them the huge difference in the size of the expansion.
2) Story. Personally I loved the story in factions. Shiro is an iconic legend that still has influences today, everything from Kormir becoming a human god and the revenant invoking his powers. While the story was not received as well as say Prophecies (the core game) Nothing really compares to prophecies story, the searing alone had huge emotional responses for a lot of people that still linger to this day as many gw2 players side with the separatists and still don’t like charr. But we aren’t comparing the factions story to prophecies we are comparing it to HoT. I actually think the story of HoT is one of HoT’s stronger points, except that it could have been a lot bigger (again the size of the expansion) Failon at one point says “you know little of the nightmare court, we seek freedom and mordremoth is worse than the pale tree.” A lot could have been done with that. Including a temporary alliance with them to bring him down, later betrayed of course by them. Just an idea, but fleshing out the story more would have helped. Maybe see Braham actually become a dragon hunter instead of just alluding to it. Maybe have the choices of say mission 1 of helping the sylvarri or not go past mission 1, but instead unlock different missions for a bit much like gw2 core’s “my greatest fear” mission line. In one of the last missions in factions each class gets buffed by a dragon and not like a “might buff” but each owns unique skills that were very awesome and fun to play. Similar to HoT’s mission with the egg where you get a few new cool skills to run away with. Well what if we got a mission like that but we got to fight and enjoy it, different cool OP skills for each class. Like in gw2 core game where we retake that island, one of which got to channel balthazaar and got awesome op skills and made it a very cool and unique mission. Something like that for each class would have been very well received. Or what if we got to see more from the sylvarri’s traitors point of view. Currently we just see them as traitors. But technically since mordremoth made them the ones fighting for the pact are the real traitors to him. In the same way as the humans worship their gods or the asuran believe in the eternal alchemy, or the norn their spirits. Someone like a tragic hero fighting for mordremoth with good intentions and ideals would have been very interesting. Like the random dwarf that fought for the god Tash in the last narnia book. Again just throwing out ideas I’m just saying the story had so much potential if it was just fleshed out more. Instead of what many people are calling it as a “living story” that we would have got anyways.
3) PvP: With factions we saw a huge upgrade to the pvp system. We saw new match types for casuals and average players with very different type of map objectives. We had 2 faction specific maps that had completely different gameplay mechanics as well as alliance battles that were extremely popular for years even for pve players that normally didn’t care for pvp.
4) Classes: Factions introduced 2 new classes, the assassin and the ritualist. The assassin being the forerunner to the modern day thief and the ritualist according to the books being a forunner to the modern day guardian (along with the warrior and monk) Don’t get me wrong the revenant is pretty cool. And adding in elite specializations helps. But in reality its still not even close. GW Nightfall also had 2 new professions the dervish and the Paragon, both highly requested in gw2. Elite specializations may “change” the way professions play and give them more options but so did the hundreds of new skills in factions, if anything that had much more of a major change. Speaking of skills.
4) Skills: According to the wiki gw factions had 570 new skills total.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Factions#4_distinct_regions
(scroll down to see it)
Now with gw2 each new class has what? 3-5 maybe. Along with elite specialization changes. That’s nothing compared to the sheer amount of skills in factions. Granted again different game different combat mechanics, but adding a few wells for say the mesmer and a shield is still very small in comparision. This doesn’t even factor in the fact of having dual classes and the countless combinations that brings since again different battle mechanics. Still worth mentioning though.
5) New weapon and armor skins. I haven’t bothered adding up the total new armor or weapon skins for factions, but just remembering the green items alone I know its a lot. Adding in both the normal and the 15k versions of armor too even more. That’s sure a lot more than say the couple we got in HoT (leyline, mistward, bladed) its not even close. But hey we keep getting new gemstore items at least lol. (sarcasm)
————————————————————————
I’m not saying factions was perfect, it maybe unfair to compare them b/c to me except the idea of dynamic combat and graphics I find gw1 superior in almost all ways. The later expansions even improved it further with heroes, and eotn had over 20 new dungeons/paths I believe. (compared to HoT’s zero…it has raids but so did factions) Just using examples of the past to hopefully shed some light on how to make a great expansion. Obviously anet can do it they’ve done it several times before. Really hoping in future expansions we get a lot more content. I think if anet goes back to their roots, really digs deep as far as creating content, having a very strong focus on story, and also goes back to their manifesto that was mostly abandoned in almost all ways but still strongly supported by their players we could have some more amazing expansions in the future.

1.Plenty soloq player can get to ruby or above if they are good. Plenty have done so.
2.Get a guild dont raid with pug. Use reddit lfg to find one.
3.DS empty at night? We must be playing different games cuz all I see there are zergs farming .
Thanks for the info. Didn’t know about using reddit for guilds. Do find it weird/sad that seems to be more active than the forums guild recruiting section. Will try to keep looking for ds groups.
Oh well at least I can work on the new Winter’s Presence shoulders now if nothing else. Or back to fractals for the update on better rewards.
So normally I have post after post defending anet, so for someone like me to switch sides says a lot.
Because of the pvp update once you get to a certain point you literally can’t win in a pug, you have to find groups. Before even in high ranked games it wasn’t this bad. Was going for the new backpack and even won the 5 games on all of the professions thinking that unlocked the next tier of progression, but no I have to just play everyday. I don’t mind that but nothing else as a reward other than basic pvp loot. If we could at least work on the next set of achieves and just have an overall days played for an achieve that would work and be a huge improvement.
Can’t raid. I have a max herald, daredevil, chronomancer, reaper, condi or boonsteal necro, beserk warrior, dh, tempest, one of everything really. All max gear and stats, herald is full ascended armor, have several legendary/ascended weapons, doesn’t matter. Pugs just fail and don’t even see pugs that often. I’m usually off work tues/thur but seems like everyone does it on monday now.
Finding a guild would help with this but it seems like logically all the guilds who have the raid on farm have a core team already and don’t see any recruiting. PvP too.
Can’t do my map completion for the new legendaries b/c so much of it is event gated. DS seems empty most late nights. Rarely see the other maps that full either now. Definitely not 4/4 progress.
Other than going through the story and getting leystone armor pieces that way on 15+ alts not sure what else to do these days.
I’m still stuck on tier 4 of division 2 (emerald). Almost every time I solo queue, I notice that the player(s) that are in sapphire are really bad, just awful, and the players in my division generally know what they are doing. Has anyone else experienced this?
Why would anet choose to give bad players an easier time moving up in the ranks? Literally makes zero sense.
Just because they play bad doesn’t mean they are bad. Those could be their alts, new classes, trying to achieve the (Win 5 games per class) achievement. I can say for a fact. I just played Engi for the first time. And dear god it did not go well.
This. Though I did try dh today for the first time. Still owned. lol definitely op since I was a dh noobie.
This is why gw1 had a much better pvp system. With dual professions (classes) and hundreds of skills your choice of builds and tech skills combos were almost unlimitless.
Did it still have its fotm sure. But even then when you know what was meta you could find ways to counter it.
Should remember WoW deathknights on launch. Lol. Just saying.
Takes most mmo’s a little bit to balance new classes (or in this case elite specializations) And at first they want them to be op brings in a lot of hype and interest in the beginning. Even when they do balance things better there will always be fotm classes.
What you think, I personnaly think. HoT killed the warrior class. No change against any class.
I haven’t tested it yet but I heard in map chat that warrior is a strong counter vs dragonhunter if they use a shield. Something about block and might stacks. Know at least 1 trap is unblockable but not sure about the other ones.
Mordremoth won in my story, because I surrendered.
I was more talking about how mordremoths attacks people’s minds, their way of thinking, and changes their behavior. HoT definitely seems to have done that.
I love VB. It’s probably my favorite map. Certainly the most polished of all the new maps. And yeah, if you dislike VB you are going to violently hate TD.
you are indeed correct, i despise maguma to such extent that i decided to burn my “Christmas money” on HearthStone pacs rather than upgrading account here.
Same here mate. I bought myself Diablo 3 bundle rather than spending that money here and am having sooooooooo much fun. I logged in like 3 – 4 days ago to GW2, left after about 10 mins
Bored and waiting to see if they fix their errors for my money.
Of course it took D3 how long to fix all of their problems? lol be fair mate
I guess you are a new player…….welcome.
“Welcome back” would be more accurate. I played since a few months after release but I stopped playing about a year ago and just recently picked it back up. But as everything is changed it kind of is like a brand new game to me lol
Thanks guys this was all really useful info! Based on what I’m reading I might give the Necro a shot again (back when I used to play they kinda sucked). Reaper does sound pretty fun.
Basically if you didn’t like the necro before for whatever reason, you should love the reaper. Have fun
Maybe replace the bad/silly ones with cool ones. H.O.P.E. is a good example.
How about Shortbow… err we already got the pistol, shortbow is all that matters now for thieves
Maybe a melee staff for daredevils.
DS with exp boosters, fireworks, food and all that stuff gives 1m – 1.5m+ per map. If you are fast enough you can even try to push 3 lines at the same time and get even more exp.
Second this. Dragon stand events is the best place to go now. AB isn’t bad either and has a ton of chests in tarir afterwards.
well i dont know about that but mordremoth definatley kicked my behind and im never going back to kill him unless i have a team. the problem is i have no friends so that’s impossible
Well I made a guide just for you!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Thief-Solo-Mordremoth-Video-Guide/first#post5835521
It’s a thief guide but if you skip ahead to the actual fight there I show you exactly what to do, dodge, evade etc and not just in video form but spell it out for you too so you don’t miss it.
Just something fun to think about. Waxxing philosophically for a bit.
Mordremoth’s goal was to destroy the pact fleet, while at the same time with the sylvarri rebellion causing anger, mistrust, and changing the community. No longer would the races band together and help each other.
Interesting to note as strong as the elder dragon was his real strength was attacking the mind AND changing the way the characters thought.
What do I see these days? So many angry people, forum posts, etc. Posts about raids, about the community changing for the worse, stuff like “get good” or “entitlement” or casual vs pro debates. I’m not saying there isn’t a place for that, but there’s a lot of emotion there. The community before was definitely a lot nicer and more helpful. I’m all up for hard content, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help our more casual player by rezzing him does it?
GW and GW2 has always had a friendly/helpful community especially compared to other mmo’s. Let’s not let mordremoth and HoT change us, how we think and act. He maybe dead now but like a good friend said there’s still a seed of anger in him that lived on and it seems many of us have that same seed too and I think its time to get rid of it.
Remember when GW2 had pages of positive feedback and praises?
Pepperidge farm remembers.
oh you mean the manifesto? Yep fun times.
Personally, I feel auras are lame, they do nothing but obscure what my character looks like, make it harder then it already is to see the details of the look I created.
I don’t want to be a glowing mass or a blob of black pixels, neither is awesome, IMO.
You guys need to just agree to disagree. lol. Personally I think for auras and such (along with other graphic effects) it would be really cool to have a tab/checkmark that you can check on or off. This way everyone wins. Oh and if we could have the same idea for eternity to where if we want the sunrise variant or the twilight variant that would be epic too. (change at will for free)
bump. 64 bit client or 32 it doesn’t matter. OP is exactly right. If you’re going to have very long events you better be able to get back in them if the client crashes. Even joining a squad or party doesn’t always work to rejoin b/c the map will still get full.
Had it happen to me a few times. If I cared enough to do it more I would be raging hard or quit for a while. Luckily I don’t care to much and do other things. But there definitely is no excuse.
Youtube blocked access to your video from Germany because of its music.
Still works in english. Weird. I know I was playing music in the background but lots of people do that, and gave them credit. Maybe I’ll upload one with no sound.
This is for regular story mode right? Not with difficulty increase or other stuff like that.
The fight for me was kinda easy with thief didn’t know ppl had issues with it. Hell i didn’t even have the spec fully unlocked if i remember correctly. So no fancy dodges and such.
That being said it’s nice u made a well made video about it. Thumbs up.
Thanks. I’m glad you liked the video. Personally I don’t think the fight itself is that hard either once you get past some of the bugs. Others think HoT is a lot harder now than the original gw2 and in a lot of ways it is. Guess this video is for them. Either way it is time consuming and while I saw a few videos on youtube later didn’t really see any guides so figured why not and it would be a cool way to help others. Wasn’t really impressed with some of the guides on the forums either as they didn’t say that much. Think seeing it in action combined with reading the strategy while watching it is very helpful.
Maybe we can get a group together and do an extreme mode guide
(edited by Chrono.6928)
call me weird but i enjoy my thief lol. I do agree with the guy who mentioned Reaper w/ minions too though lol.
I recently finished a guide for thieves (and everyone else) on how to solo mordremoth. Downed him several weeks ago just recently had time to finish the video. Even though its a thief guide there are several tricks other classes can do too and also the fight is included in the video (at 7minutes if you want to skip ahead) along with Dialogue Boxes that tell you exactly what to dodge and what to do.
ps: spoilers in the video.
Guide Breakdown:
1) Specializations: Critical Strikes, Deadly Arts, Daredevil
2) Utilities: Optional. Recommend Stealths and/or Condition Removal.
3) Weapons: Dagger/Dagger, Pistol/Pistol
4) Boss fight
5) Loot
- Because this fight is a mechanic fight and knowing what to dodge and not stand in etc the specializations, utilities and weapons are pretty optional so play what you enjoy. In the video I just mention what I ran and why.
Full tips, tricks, hints, guide in the video.
Brief Tip List:
1) Stealth is your friend. The adds he spawns (illusions of your friends) will run away when stealthed so you can literally have them run back and forth not attacking you while you range/stealth them lol.
2) Melee attacks are obvious. Evades work quite well. D/D 3 has death blossom. S/D 3 has an evade too. Other classes like mesmers can take advantage of this too.
3) Don’t stand in the lightning. Hurts and causes torment. If you can’t remove it run out of lightning then don’t move till its gone. Purple/Blueish aura around him at times causes confusion, remove it or don’t attack till gone. Shockwave is similar to the fractal boss from frost and flame, get close to him to be safe.
4) “Run into” the updraft to glide. DON’T try “jumping” into it to glide like in the rest of the game. It doesn’t work and you will die. lol. It’s either a confirmed bug or a bad design mechanic but just run into it.
5) Stealth gliding makes avoiding the rocks a lot easier.
6) Daredevils get 3 stealth glides
7)You can’t cripple most of the illusion adds, but you can immobilize most of them.
8) Stealth makes closing rifts easier
Hope you guys like the guide and video! Was a lot of fun making it and my first one in a long time. While I included tips on here I go into a lot more detail explaining my choices in the video so definitely check that out too if you get the chance. Both the 7 minute intro about the specializations, utilities and weapon choices along with the actual boss fight that also has a lot of info in it too that you can read in the pop up dialogue boxes.
The entire mission instance takes roughly 40 minutes solo. If the ally part is taking you 30-40 minutes then up your DPS by… a lot. Like I said earlier, you’re not going to have perma invisibility when gliding so you’re going to have to learn to dodge the rocks. Even if invisibility did let you avoid rocks, you’re still going to run into the same issues that you are now when you’re not under that effect.
Unless you’re a daredevil like in my thief guide I’m posting soon
Then you have 3 stealths
hehe, Close enough to perma at least
And here I am making more money post-HoT than I was pre-HoT and have changed nothing…
Sounds like the dungeon farmers are the ones that can’t figure out what the heck to do.
My typical day is log in, do 3 dailies for the AP, do fractal dailies, log out. Weekends I’ll do some HoT mastery farming (events), but only weekends. I typically make 100g/week. That’s just with dailies and fractal dailies. Sell all stabilizing matrices (45s/ea), sell all ectos (~31s/ea), sell all mats and T5/T6, open all encryptions (for the chance at the 1g+junk items which I’ve been pretty lucky with—or sell them for 11s/ea), craft up Agony Infusions to +8’s (~4.5g/ea).
People are under this misconception that there are no ways to make good money in this game, versus the reality which is there are simply less ways to make good money now. You can either seek out the ways to make good money, even if its outside your wheelhouse, or you can pout about it and then quit for another MMO that you will quit for another MMO that you will quit.
Think you’re missing the point. Lots of people just enjoyed doing dungeons to make gold. Myself included. “Selling mats” to make gold doesn’t really cut it for me, because I tend to be one of those players who stockpile mats in my bank for legendaries and other rare items, so now it feels like I’m constantly broke. Do I have liquid assets sure. But that’s not how I want to make a profit b/c chances are I will have to rebuy them later that way.
thanks for this thread and all the replies. exactly what i needed.
One question: anyone try celestial? Just curious b/c of the whole switching roles thing and it seems to work on eles which is a similar concept.
Was wondering what stat combos to go on my rev for raids? I’m assuming berserker or maybe celestial or a tank set? Only asking b/c I’m also currently crafting ascended gear and don’t want to waste gold/time.
I actually agree with you on the racial skills. Mostly useless sure but logically it makes no sense whatsoever that every other class can use them but rev can’t. Would I ever use them probably not but in all fairness it should be included.
They should put the rewards back, but also remove the leashes on enemies so it’s like most other MMOs where you can’t just skip through. Alternatively, vanquishing for bonuses.
They don’t actually want people to focus on them however because they’re abandoned. They weren’t worth the resources to develop and any new dungeons would have been more like fractals. Nerfing the rewards was to account for speed runs and future exploits, which will likely go unfixed.
Agreed with the leash comment. Would also be cool if more trash drops more/better loot so it would be worth killing everything instead of just running past them. If they were abandoned they could have did what they did with the dailies, collections and other things that made stuff like jumping puzzles suddenly worth doing again. As far as speed runs go they fixed that by limiting the big reward to 1 run per day per path. If someone really wants to run every dungeon path per day and make a lot of gold I’m honestly ok with that b/c that’s a lot of time/work. And the getting rid of the leash on bosses and/or trash would definitely slow down/stop speed runs that focus on skipping them.
ps: logically you don’t need to develop resources to keep a system that’s in place the same. Even more so if they were mostly “abandoned” then why not just leave them alone? Why take rewards away from something people don’t do? Obviously some people do, do it b/c they are asking how to make gold now on the forums.
ps2: I would be cool with new dungeons… if they made any :P lol.
(edited by Chrono.6928)
Not sure if its true or not or just bugging out but i heard stealth gliding helps and he won’t throw rocks at you. Tested it out several times seems to work sometimes and not work other times.
No, first dungeon is dtill rewarding as long as you trade your token and salvage. Second liquid gold hurt gold to gem rate way too much. Third dungeon reward you way too much liquid gold for the skill and effort involved which is nearly 0. Actually I think the current liquid gold is still too much.
Gem rate? No it didn’t. Not all dungeon paths are easy mode like cof 1,2, ac 1,3. There are still quite a few which people don’t even do for the most part except maybe once to get dungeonmaster. If anything they could not get rid of the gold reward but instead make the fights more challenging on the easier paths. Or smarter enemy AI to where people can’t just stack behind walls.
Please support what you say with facts and not useless opinions. Your argument is so bad and poorly worded I’m pretty sure you’re trolling.
I love gw1 and gw2 though gw1 more. I enjoy HoT and thought they did many things right.
I like that masteries provide an alternate form of leveling progression so that challenging content doesn’t become irrevelant an expansion or 2 later thus titles, unique skins, and achievements don’t become easy to get later or even soloable like in wow.
I like the multi-tiered maps. Its an interesting concept and a nice change.
I really liked the story.
I really liked the mordremoth fight.
I like the new elite specs a lot for the most part. Reaper, chronomancer and berserker is fun. Daredevil while less flashy fits my playstyle nicely even without the staff.
The revenant is just awesome.
That being said I’m also up for constructive criticism and have a few posts myself.
I dislike how short the story is. There was a lot of cool ideas they could have done. An example how about doing more with the nightmare court? Even a temporary alliance to bring the dragon down and/or a betrayal would have been cool. It would have been nice if our “choices” in the personal story went further as far as how our story progressed instead of just choosing what 1 instance we will fight this time. Something more like in the original game where we chose what we most fear and that effects the next 3 or so stories we do. It would have been cool to see the new destinies edge characters evolve more. Their story was really good at times, but say if Braham actually became a dragonhunter instead of just alluding to it. (crosses fingers for raids or next living world)
I don’t like how they got rid of the gold rewards from dungeons. Their excuse of “we are doubling gold rewards from raids and we don’t want to ruin the economy” is completely ridiculous. Seeing how as most people can’t/don’t do raids and even those who want to can’t even beat the 1st boss there is no reason for this at all. I sincerely believe they could even make the raid bosses drop more gold (like 10g+) and it wouldn’t hurt the economy at all since hardly anyone would be effected and there are so many new gold sinks (legendary weapons, legendary armor, legendary backpacks, ascended armor (almost a requirement for raids), new runes/sigils etc.
I don’t like how many maps are now empty and there are extremely hard events that I simply can’t do now. And how map exploration is also tied in to many of these events thus also becoming impossible at the moment anyways.
I don’t like how some ridiculously hard to get achievements/collections only grant 1 mastery and/or barely any achievement points. Example: ascended armor. Older example legendary weapons, think the ap should be much higher considering the work/investment. I strongly believe there should be more masteries or the ones out should grant more points. Not really sure why people can’t just max their masteries in all categories in a reasonable amount of time/investment/gold and not have some extra leeway. This way people can enjoy it more and at the same time not minimize those who enjoy getting all mastery points. They can still get all the points and have bragging rights kind of like how the gw1/gw2 hall of monuments worked at 30/50 points. 30 was enough to enjoy all the rewards but those who wanted more could do it just for bragging rights.
I don’t like how most people can’t even get into raid groups without ascended armor/weapons. Or how most groups can’t pug raids. Don’t get me wrong I love challenges. I love high level fractals, the new ta path, getting dungeonmaster before nerfs and path sellers. I don’t want it to be auto wins for pugs. It’s just I was told for YEARS I didn’t need ascended armor except for fractals (which i collected my rings/amulets, etc. and instead went for 5 legendary weapons… and now can’t get into pugs b/c I don’t have ascended armor. I get this is a playerbase mentality and guilds help relieve some of this but the points are still valid and this whole “get a guild” argument doesn’t really fly with me b/c I am in several guilds. “get a better guild” doesn’t really work either except as trolling b/c the guilds who can already do it probably already have a core group.
I don’t like the huge amount of cool new items in the gemstore and hardly any new weapons/armor in game in comparison. I do support the gemstore, a lot actually. But instead of just a couple of new armor sets and lots of new outfits I think there should be 20+ new armor sets in game much like the dungeon sets, nevermind new karma sets, wvw sets, pvp sets, etc. Instead of just leyline, bladed, etc lol. Why can’t we have 50-100+ new sets like the original gw2 core game did and then add some cool gemstore outfits too. Another example gw1 factions had quite a few sets both normal versions and elite ones and that was their first expansion too (and also a lot bigger than HoT too)
Quoting your own manifesto carried out in 2011, you stated (sorry Colin for dropping you in here) ‘We just dont want players to grind in Guild Wars 2’.
The old way of making legendary weapons was fine, so why was there a need to go completely over the top with the time gating of materials along with a stupidly high number of the same material you can only make one of per day, just for the new precursors. Surely with a system like this in place you should remove the daily craft restriction on all T7 materials.Looking at the new list of what is needed for the new legendary weapons this is the most grindy thing I’ve seen in this game, which goes against the 2011 statement on what direction you guys wanted this game to go in.
Bump. Not to concerned about the new legendaries yet though I might be when I plan on getting them, but I strongly agree with the OP’s Title. In most areas of the game. Please go back arenanet and watch the manifesto over and over again until its part of your blood.
Title says it all. A lot of people really didn’t like this change. It was a nice way to earn gold enjoying pve content. It kept people enjoying old content and giving them incentive to keep doing groups thus allowing new players to enjoy the old content. Now it seems most dungeons are empty, new players would have to be very lucky to find a group for every path once just to get dungeonmaster, much less doing the same dungeons over and over again to get full armor sets or weapons other than maybe the easier ones like ac and cof.
This whole “we had to so we don’t ruin the economy because of raids rewards” is utter nonsense. Double the rewards for current raids? Who cares if 90+% of people can’t down a boss, especially pugs. If anything they could probably up the gold rewards to say 10g a boss in raids (during current progression) and it still wouldn’t effect the economy at all since most people would be unaffected. If anything because of the need for ascended gear, new stat combos, etc as new gold sinks the economy should be just fine even with dungeon rewards. In fact there’s a good chance people would use the gold for dungeons to fund ascended armor, which would take a good bit of time anyways, that and with all the new legendary equipment as well. With all of these gold sinks the economy would definitely not be ruined, if anything it would be much better. Yeah you can farm gold doing crafting or gathering nodes but adding gold back to dungeons goes back to the gw2 manifesto (which might be the one thing that could save this game) in allowing the player to “play how they want to play.”
You auto-learn the recipe instead of getting a recipe sheet when you interact with the bag, so make sure you do it on a character with huntsman.
Thanks. Does your huntsman crafting have to be a certain level like 400-500 to learn it? Like I get 400+ to use it but can say a new huntsman with a low level crafting get it then level it up later?
Thanks for the replies guys. Still wondering if its a gear check and everyone needs full ascended (mathematically 5% dps increase times 10 people is 50% increase) or if its just people slacking off and exotics are possible? Also any way to check/find out who’s not pulling their weight?
A 5% DPS increase for all 10 people is still a 5% DPS increase for the group.
Just double checked the math. If everyone is doing 100 dps, and you increase yours 5% to 105 dps, then that’s 1,005 dps. 1005 / 10 = 100.5 dps so a .5% dps increase. Seems like you’re right
So while I’m sure it doesn’t hurt and may help if you are pushing the boss till the last 5-10% of its hp, don’t think ascended is the answer if my pugs are getting it to 40-50%. Even if a player coughed up a few hundred gold or more to get full ascended at .5% increase it would barely change a thing if even noticable at all.
I personally don’t like time gates usually, but honestly 12 days is nothing for a legendary weapon. At least its not like 6 months or something… Like in other games.

So currently doing the hope collection 1 set. Did the tears of itlaocol puzzle. Got to the bag, opened it, it did the whole level up or commune type animation. then nothing. nothing in my collection, nothing in my bags or buffs. There’s a flower and raven nearby but while i can interact with the flower when i press F it won’t let me.
So assuming its a bug until I hear otherwise. lol leaving my toon in there too so I don’t have to worry about doing it later.
Fallout 4 stealing my mapmates >:O
Raid pugs stealing my mapmate spots >:O
This, fallout 4, halo 5, assassins creed. lots of big titles came out recently.
It’s an expansion with no loot aside reclaimed weap set and you can farm mobs for hours and get nothing of value so its no wonder the farmers have left.
The rewards are horrible as in SW you can get the Queen Bee worth 900g and in DT you can get Kites and geodes. Worse offender is DS when it comes to rewards so it’s no wonder those seeking a bounty don’t stay in HoT.
Don’t worry about good loot or cool new skins, they will have more awesome outfits in the gemstore every few weeks.
Pretty sure u can get a guild hall with 2-3 people. Seen several guilds claim it. Smaller guilds can do it easier actually. Mine did it with 5 one of which kept dc’ing and one of which couldn’t glide, so basically 3 lol.
Rubbish.. 2-3 man guilds use the LFG or pull alliances via map chat to take it on.
I would love to see the video s of those 2-3 man attempts.. or they never happened.
Smallest I know of getting the job done was 6 man and that was at after several attempts.. ours was done with a small amount of time to spare taking 8 players in who all knew what to do and were appropriately geared.
I did it with 5, made a forum post when everyone whined, feel free to search for it, and posted a screenshot. so there’s your proof. Oh and not everyone makes videos of it especially if they were just attempting and not sure if they could or not.
Correct lots of guilds do make alliances and grab a few extra players and that’s a legit strategy. But I fully believe at least 4 would be possible too b/c as stated above our guardian didn’t have updraft mastery yet so he had to run a lot and miss half of them, yet we still got most of them down with 4.
Title says it all. Just curious how groups are doing this. Found this as a resource and been using it.

Mostly pugs, but am trying to keep it organized. Have people ping gear, check stats (beserker for zerkers, viper/sinister for condi, no one has to much toughness etc) have food etc.
Our best attempts kept only getting him to about 50% or less, maybe 40%.
Is it a dps execution thing? Tank would kite boss around, melee attack behind it, range get in the static fields so melee don’t have to run to them and lose dps. During the split phases we are using the guides example (or close to). Something else I’m missing?
Or is it just not truly puggable atm and need all 10 people to be full ascended? Also while not necessary a fan of dps meters in other games and the community that breeds, I am curious how can you tell if someone is definitely not pulling their weight without them in this type of situation.
ps: i love a challenge and hardcore content, so not whining. I’m very happy with these changes. Just curious if I’m missing anything.

So got HOT the other day and I’m sick with the game play i really hate it its the worst, and i find myself going to other games now and just not playing
Maguma is all team based nothing solo all team based join a team maybe survive don’t join a team and you die.
Maguma is so OP you have mordrem snipers who can take out a whole team with one shot you might as well be canon fodder, then you have mushroom kings and vets they explode poison and again can take out a whole team in one go, giant beetles small beetles, pocket raptors huge monsters way to many Op bosses and monsters and stuff for anyone to solo.
Bosses respawn too fast you manage to kill some monsters and you turn around and there back again and before you know it you are swarmed and mobbed yet again the.
The mastery system is awesome the way it is designed to work is awesome but the xp is way too much first mastery is pretty easy next mastery is 1 mill+ xp you get very little xp for any events you do i mean 11k xp when your training mastery that needs 1mill + xp is nothing and bearly adds anything to the xp bar its more of a grind you have to grind grind grind there for its no fun.
You have to learn mastery to continue with your story again the rewards and too little for the grinding you have to do, am i the only one who genuinely feels that HOT content is really annoying and bad and over powered in maguma I for one don’t have time to spend 10-15 hours a day grinding for xp.
Every character I have I have done the hard way to get to 80 done the story lines so I’m not new to having to work for what you want but I thought it might be a bit easier and better and a better experience, for me I just think the way the xp is laid out for the amount of grinding you have to do is not worth it.
I thought the first expansion would be a bit better and more aimed towards the community and not such a bore to play needless to say I’m very disappointed.
Except for meta events and some hero points I’ve solo’ed everything. Teams aren’t really required.
Snipers aren’t hard, they just punish you for bad play. See that line on the ground after they shot, don’t stand on it, its that line that hurts so bad. roll roll roll. lol.
I’d say take a break and keep watching for patches to improve on your list of grievances. Your not totally wrong there are issues.
This. what mmo doesn’t have bugs, issues, and balancing acts to fix on launch? If anything this gw2 expac was done quite smoothly compared to wow. Even big console games like assassins creed are still filled with bugs years later.
haven’t seen any groups call for full ascended yet. Right stats yes, if zerker go zerker if condi go viper or sinister maybe. Make sure no one has more thoughness than the tank lol.
Honestly go condi, lots of people are looking for those. People keep asking for my necro b/c i can go condi, boon strip, etc
